Philips OneBlade Pro Review – Is the Hyped Philips One Blade Pro Hybrid Trimmer & Shaver as Efficient and Convenient as Advertised?

Philips OneBlade Pro is the most advanced creation by the Philips Norelco in the Philips OneBlade series. It replaced the Philips OneBlade and OneBlade face and body groomer with more advanced technology. Therefore, you can shave, trim, and edge with the groomer with more efficiency.

In this article, I’ll explain the Philips One Blade Pro with the advantages and disadvantages I experienced. I think it will help you decide if it’s suitable for you.

• Philips Oneblade Pro hybrid is powered by a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. This battery will provide 90 minutes of cordless use per hour of charge.
• This machine is able to cut, trim or edge any length of hair.
• An adjustable hair hide comb with the device delivers 14 hair length settings for 14 different looks.
• The One Blade is not too close like the traditional blade.
• This machine is for universal use because the charger can adapt 100volt – 240volt.
• You have to replace the blade once in 4 months ( it will depend if you do 2 full shaves per week).

Product Analysis

Duraglide coating & rounded tips blades.

Philips OneBlade pro hybrid groomer comes with tougher blades than Philips’s other one-blade models.

That’s why the blades or replacement head lasts almost 2x longer than the predecessors.

The manufacturer implemented glide coating technology in the blades along with rounded tips that protect the skin from irritations.

As a result, the shaver/trimmer can ensure very comfortable and efficient operations in every pass.

I found the blades take extra care of the skin, which compels me to throw away the traditional blades, although they are closer than the OneBlade Pro.

Wet and Dry Use

This machine is fully waterproof and is for wet and dry use.

You can use shaving gel, cream, or soap for a refreshing wet shave.

Even you can use it under the shower.

Since water-resistant, cleaning is so easy.

Just hold the machine under the running water for a thorough cleaning.

Pro Battery

Philips Oneblade pro hybrid grooming device is powered by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery.

This battery provides 90 minutes of running juice per hour of charge.

This machine is only for cordless use.

If you compare it with the Philips OneBlade initial model, that one provides 45 minutes of running power with 8 hour of charge.

Isn’t it a massive difference? I think so.

Contour Following System

The Philips one blade pro qp6520 trimmer and shaver can follow every contour of your face and provide an efficient and comfortable shave and trim in every use.

Operate the machine against the growth of your facial hair and shave off any length of hair.

Since the blade is not too close, you won’t feel any skin problems.

There is an adjustable precision comb with this package.

There are 14 hair length settings in this comb.

To trim your beard, adjust the trimming comb, then choose your desired hair length setting.

To get a perfect edge, use the dual-sided blade.

You have to shave in either direction to get great visibility.

It is also suitable for sensitive areas.

Built Quality of Philips OneBlade Pro

Philips Oneblade Pro qp6510 electric trimmer and shaver is a combination of black and blade silver color.

This feature provides the machine with an attractive look.

The handle is made with an ergonomic grip, while Norelco used normal plastic in the predecessor ( OneBlade shaver and trimmer).

In the handle, there is an LED display.

This display will provide battery status and travel lock status.

The travel lock will prevent your machine from accidentally turning ON if you are going to store it for a longer period or in traveling.

The contour following technology works for both the shaving and trimming systems.

This feature will allow you to shave or trim any face area.

There is a charging stand  with this package.

You can charge this machine in 2 ways – with the charging stand and with the charger.

You can use this trimmer and shaver wet and dry.

There is no restriction on wet use. But never use it corded.

The trimming comb comes with 14 hair length settings and feels very sturdy.

Just choose your desired length and create a unique look.

I’m very happy with its built quality, and based on the built quality, I will provide 4.8 out of 5.

Power System

This OneBlade model comes with excellent battery life.

90 minutes of running time per hour of charge is really superb.

The full-size LED display will always provide you with the battery percentage.

When the battery is almost empty, the indicator will flash orange.

When you charge the machine, the indicator will flash white.

There is also a quick charge option – after almost 5-minute charging, the battery will provide enough juice for one trim or shave.

When the battery is fully charged, the indicator will constantly flash, and the battery percentage will show 100%.

Charging System

There are 2-ways charging systems in this device.

#Charging with the charger

• Be certain the machine is switched off.
• Insert the small plug into the machine and put the power plug in the outlet.
• After fully charging, remove the small plug from the machine and the power plug from the wall outlet.

#Charging with the charging stand

• Insert the small plug into the charging stand, then put the power plug into the wall outlet.
• Now put the machine in the charging stand.

Important – always check the machine and its instruments before using. Don’t use any part without replacement or repair if it remains damaged.

This trimming and shaving machine is only for facial hair, and use it only cordless.

• Trimming will be easier when operating on dry skin and hair than wet.
• Before using, always check the trimming comb and the blade.
• For hygienic reasons, use it personally.
• To trim, shave or edge, only use on your facial hair ( beard, mustache, sideburns).
• Press the ON/OFF button once to turn the machine ON/OFF.

#Shaving System

• Be certain the machine fully contacts with your skin.
• Do not need to use the comb.
• Operate the machine against the hair grow to get the best shaving result. And move it flat against your skin.
• You can use shaving gel, foam, and soap for a refreshing wet shave.
• After every shave, clean the machine thoroughly.

#Edging System

• Turn On the machine, and use both sides to make a sharp edging line.
• Hold the machine in such a way as if the blade is erect to the skin as well as one of its sides touches your skin. Then operate the machine with gentle pressure.
• It will also provide you with more precise detailing of sideburns.
• You can also move it around the mouth and nose.
• After edging, turn off the machine and clean it thoroughly.

#Trimming System

The precision trimming attachment will provide you 14 different hair length settings.

When you will use the machine for the 1 st time, start at the highest hair length setting to habituate yourself.

The settings are from 0.4mm (1/32 inch.) to 10mm (13/32 inch.).

When trimming your beard, be certain the flat part of the comb fully contacts your skin.

All the hairs do not grow in the same direction. So, you have to operate the comb in different trimming positions like – upwards, downwards, or across.

Trimming will be easier on dry skin and beard than wet.

• Position the front side of the comb onto the blade and then push the projection at the back of the comb into the machine (‘click’).
• Turn the hair length setting wheel to choose the desired length.
• After length settings, turn ON the machine.
• Position the comb onto your skin and operate it upwards, slowly against the hair growth.
• Turn off the machine and clean it after every use.

Travel Lock System

The Philips QP6510 Oneblade Pro comes with a travel lock system.

This feature will prevent your machine from accidentally turning ON.

#How to activate the Travel lock???

• 1 st , you have to press the ON/OFF button for 3 seconds, then the travel lock mark lights up, and at that time, the LED display will countdown.
• When the travel lock activates, the travel lock mark flashes.

#How to deactivate the Travel lock???

• Activating and deactivating are the same – press the ON/OFF button for 3 seconds then the LED will count down.
• The Travel lock mark lights up and turns off.
• Now the machine is ready for work.

Note – the machine will be unlocked automatically when you connect the machine to the electrical outlet.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Clean the machine after every use.

Don’t use any rubbing pads, abrasive cleaning stuff, or aggressive liquids like – gasoline or acetone to clean the machine.

• Before cleaning, be certain the machine is switched off.
• Then remove the trimming comb from the machine.
• Clean the blade and comb thoroughly and blow off any hairs that have accumulated on them.
• Rinse the machine with warm water and briefly ON the machine.
• Then rinse the trimming comb and blade with warm water.
• Shake off them to remove excess water.
• Let all the parts air dry.

Note: the blade is brittle, so you have to handle it carefully. Don’t use cloth or tissue to dry the handle and attachments.

Replacement Part s

To get optimal cutting and gliding performance, you have to replace the blade once in 4 months; otherwise, you won’t get the shaving or trimming result that you want.

Again, the exact lifetime of the blade will depend on usage and how many times you use it in a week.

You need to replace the blade before or after 4 Months.

If you don’t replace the blade, it will become blunt over time, minimizing the cutting performance and increasing hair pulling.

Always buy the replacement part from Amazon provided by Philips Norelco.

#How to replace the blade?

• 1stly, be certain the machine is switched off.
• Then gently push the blade to remove and slide the switch upwards while holding the blade on every side. It will restrain the blade from flying away.
• Hold the new blade on 2 sides and press it onto the machine (handle). You will hear a (‘click’) sound. Now your machine is ready for use.

To minimize the risk of electrical shock –

• Don’t use any attachments which do not come with this package or recommended by the manufacturer.
• Never use the machine with plugged in.
• Don’t charge the machine with damaged power cord.
• Never use the machine without replacement if the comb or blade becomes damaged.
• Keep the machine and all its parts that come in this model at heated surfaces.
• Don’t touch the power cord if your hand is wet.
• Only use this machine for human facial hair.
• Only charge the machine with the power cord or stand which comes with this package.

Philips Norelco OneBlade Review

Philips norelco oneblade.

The Philips OneBlade is a unique shaving tool in terms of how it functions and looks. It also does more than shaving for many users but won’t give a razor-close finish.

Long charging time

After receiving the Philips Norelco OneBlade and testing it out in various ways, I realized it’s one of the strangest shaving tools I have used.

It looks like a cartridge razor — well, the blade does; it operates just like an electric shaver, its handle is like an electric toothbrush, and it comes with various clipper or groomer comb lengths. But, on top of that, the blade looks like a solar panel without blades, foils, or cutters.

I was baffled as to how this thing could shave and bodygroom. However, the Philips OneBlade was both fun and challenging from the start, from opening to testing, using, and reviewing.

OneBlade Models

Let’s take a look at the current Philips OneBlade models. They started with a standard model for the face, and then Philips developed the product.

OneBlade Face  – The most standard model is what is known as OneBlade Face or Original, which is just a facial razor. Model numbers include QP2520/20 – QP2520/25 – QP2520/70 – QP2520/90 (3 x stubble combs + 1 face blade) and QP2530/25 – QP2530/30 (4 x stubble combs + 1 face blade)*.

Charging times, runtime, and battery light indicators differ between the QP2520 and QP2530 models.

OneBlade Face & Body  – The face and body model comes with extra attachments and another blade. The extra blade and attachment are for body grooming; otherwise, the device is the same as the OneBlade Face. Model numbers include QP2620/20 – QP2620/65 – QP2620/65 (3 x stubble combs + 1 face blade + 1 body blade + 1 body comb), QP2630/30 (4 x stubble combs + 1 body comb + 1 face blade + 1 body blade + travel pouch)*. 

Charging times, runtime, and battery light indicators differ between the QP2630 and QP2620 models.

*Numbers differ based on stubble comb attachments and whether the product is sold in the US, EU, or elsewhere. There could be other model numbers and more numbers included in the future. 

OneBlade Pro Face or Face & Body  – Several OneBlade Pro models are also available. These are an upgrade from the OneBlade Face and Body that we review on ShavingAdvisor but won’t cover in this review. 

Description & Features

I purchased the OneBlade QP2630/30. It comes with four stubble combs, the face and body blades, a body comb, the travel pouch, and a charging cord with plug. A blade cover was also included for the face blade. 

It is worth mentioning the travel pouch is very useful, and if you purchase the model with a pouch, it is best to use something that can store the shaver and its attachment; otherwise, you might damage the blade, and there are just too many bits and bobs to not store them.

• Wet & Dry:  The OneBlade is waterproof and can be used in the shower or dry like a regular electric shaver. It can also be used with shaving cream and other lubricants, including electric pre-shave lotions.
• Stubble Combs:  The stubble combs allow users to cut their beards at various lengths. The sizes include 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm. 
• Body Comb:  The body comb can be attached to the face blade and can be used to trim body hair down to 5mm (3/16 inch).
• Replacement Blades:  Blades last for four months and then must be replaced. Philips states this is based on two full shaves weekly, and results may vary.
• Handle:  The ergonomically friendly handle has rubberized sides to promote grip.
• Rechargeable:  The OneBlade Face (QP2520) takes 8 hours to charge fully and provides 45 minutes of runtime. The Face/Body (QP2630) models take 4 hours to fully charge and provide 60 minutes of runtime. They cannot be used when connected to the mains.
• Indicators:  The OneBlade Face models (QP2520) have a battery charging indicator light on the plug that lights up when it is charging. The Face/Body (QP2630) models display a full battery, low battery, and charging light on the handle.
• Warranty:  2 years warranty for the handle only. 

Unique Blades and Operation

The blade on the OneBlade is the most unique blade I have ever encountered. When I first looked at it, the look and feel made it hard to believe it could cut anything. However, you can easily feel the blades tugging the whiskers when putting the blade on facial hair and moving it without switching on the device.

Philips does not tell us much about the blades apart from stating that it has Unique OneBlade technology. It certainly is unique when compared to other types of blades, including rotary and foil shaver blades or cutters.

The body blade provided is the same as the face blade and just has the black and light green protective casing attached, known as a skin guard. This casing came apart on one occasion, and I realized a user does not need to buy a body blade (unless the protective casing is damaged) and just replace the inner blades. 

The body blade and its skin guard do offer better protection when shaving those more sensitive or private areas, such as the crown jewels we wish to protect at all costs. This is because the casing mostly protects the two main side edges of the blade.

On closer inspection of the blade edges, you’ll find teeth, and when the OneBlade is switched on, these teeth move in the same manner as the blades of hair clippers or trimmers. These edges do a lot of the cutting and edging, which seems to be one of the reasons they work best when shaving against the grain.

Attaching Blades and Stubble Combs

Attaching a blade and switching over from the face blade to the body blade is easy enough. The blades just clip inside.

One thing that seems flimsy is the blade comes out easily without the need to unclip it with the button. I would try to use the button when possible — just in case the mechanism for attaching and detaching blades becomes worn. Philips could improve this and make the blades lock tighter.

The stubble combs may feel slightly tricky at times to attach or detach — which is mostly because the Philips OneBlade is a small device.

Blades Flex

I really like how the blades flex with the various contours of the face, body, or skin. It’s similar to the flexibility a user gets from a cartridge razor.

The blades flexible movement is an important feature that works well.

How Well Does the Philips OneBlade Trim, Shave, and Groom?

The testing and using of the Philips OneBlade took some time. It has various functions, including edging, trimming, body grooming, and facial shaving, to put to the test.

I spent about a month with this device grooming just about everything, and with various levels of hair growth to see what the results were and to find what it works with best.

Facial Shaving 7/10

Facial shaving was the original primary task for which the OneBlade was first designed, alongside trimming and edging.

I like that Philips states the OneBlade does not shave as close as a razor. A company being honest can’t be a bad thing, and, indeed, you aren’t going to get a baby botty smooth shave from this device.

On the first occasion I used the OneBlade I had a good four days of coarse growth. I trimmed it down, then used the shaver and shaved as directed against the grain. If you have coarse growth like me, then you’ll notice bits of debris flying all over the place, unlike an electric shaver that collects the debris inside the head. The shaving shrapnel flying everywhere was not an issue.

The shave I get is okay, and I am usually left with a very light stubble. It reminds me of the decent but cheaper electric shaver models that leave a slight stubble.

Shaving is comfortable and causes no irritation, which is well worth noting, especially for gentlemen with sensitive skin. 

It takes a lot of time to shave off a decent stubble and takes more time than electric shavers and razors. This is more so when the stubble is longer –say more than three days.

Shaving every two days or daily is completed much quicker naturally, but it’s still not the quickest shaving tool in the box. However, younger guys with much softer whiskers and stubble will get the job done much faster than my facial hair will allow.

I did get the odd flat-lying and straggler hairs that did not want to lift up and be cut. However, the OneBlade did remove them after some effort, and straggler or flat-lying hairs can still be an issue with some of the best electric shavers for men , so I did not sweat that.

Edging 6.8/10

Edging my sideburns was a similar experience I have with electric shavers I test and use; it was pretty hopeless. I tried turning the OneBlade around as advised by Philips to trim the sideburns, which did not work well and found it best to shave upwards with the device closer to a 45-degree angle. 

I did try edging after a good few days of growth to edge in a goatee beard style, even if a goatee does look rubbish on me. Again it seemed that turning the device around did not work well for me, and using it in the usual manner and finding the right angle was best.

I can see that the OneBlade would work fine when shaping a beard during a trim session. 

Trimming 7/10

Trimming facial hair with one of the stubble combs seemed to work fine. However, I don’t have long enough beard growth to really test the OneBlade enough as I would like. You might want to check out some YouTube videos as I did and watch the OneBlades beard trimming skills on a decent fuller beard.

BodyGrooming 7.1/10

Okay. More hair to mow down!

I tried the OneBlade on chest hair, armpits, crown jewels, and pubic area. 

I used the body blade attachment and tried the normal blade with stubble attachments. The armpits and chest were quite easy to trim down, and the hair was trimmed down to 3mm.

The benefit of using the body comb over a stubble comb is it will cut hair on both sides. So, you can use the OneBlade going up and down or in any other direction, and it will still catch and cut the hair, unlike the stubble combs, which only cuts on one side and in one direction — forwards. 

I started the chest, armpit, and pubic area project with a heck of a lot hair. The OneBlade does trim this kind of growth down, but it takes a while, and I did find I missed a lot of armpit hair. A larger hair clipper or trimming tool is best for this kind of job, but the OneBlade will do it.

After trimming chest, armpit, and pubic hair with the body comb, the blade with the skin guard can be used or a blade without the skin guard. The skin guard seemed to be helpful in protecting sensitive areas, like around the nipples and other places. The skin guarded blade cut the hair down to a bare minimum stubble, but it took a lot of time because I was shaving a lot of body. 

The OneBlade, when shaving the balls area with just the blade and skin guard, does not get close enough for my liking, as a cartridge razor does. You’ll be fine if you are okay with a stubble effect on your sack. Also, without the skin guard and just the blade, it gave me some minor nicks because I wanted a closer shave down there. If you go easy down there and don’t need a stubble-free shave, you can make the Philips OneBlade work for you and your balls.

The time it takes to use the OneBlade for body grooming is not great, and one reason is that the blade is relatively small compared to other trimmers and not as sharp as a razor –to be able to cut as quickly. A Remington palm-held clipper I use covers a lot of body hair very quickly (See Remington ShortCut Review), which is a good example of having plenty of blade.

Wet & Dry 7/10

Most of the shaving I did with the OneBlade was dry without water, shaving cream, gel, or soap. However, I tried out the device with shave cream on my face, chest, armpits, and privates to see if it helped make the shave more comfortable.

The shave was slightly more comfortable on all areas with a small amount of cream, and the chest area was quicker as this is such a large area of shaving to cover. In addition, the balls were happy about the extra lubrication and protection between the skin and blade. However, if I wet shave with cream, I still prefer to get the cartridge razor out as electric shavers are much about saving time and the convenience of no lather and mess.

Build Quality and Ergonomics – 8/10

The OneBlade is a plastic device that feels and looks like a solid enough tool that should last a few years.

The simple design is ergonomically friendly for holding, and the rubberized side panels provide plenty of grip.  

Charging and Battery Life – 7/10

Charging up the OneBlade does take longer than most electric shavers. The Face model (QP2520) takes 8 hours to charge fully, providing 45 minutes of runtime, and the Face & Body model (QP2630) takes 4 hours to charge, providing 60 minutes of runtime. 

Some users may have an issue with the lengthy charge time, while others like me are fine. It would only be an issue if I were traveling and in mid-facial shave the battery died. If the charge time is an issue, a buyer should go for the Pro OneBlade version.

I definitely get 60 minutes or more runtime out of the Face & Body OneBlade I am using.

The Philips Face & Body device does indicate when the battery is getting low in charge, which is useful, but the Face model does not. The charge time is 4 – 8 hours, so I think a low charge indicator is essential. 

The Face and Face & Body battery is not a Lithium-ion battery, and you will find most electric shavers and the OneBlade Pro have a Lithium-ion type. This is why these NIMH batteries have to be trickled charged, and they will, after time, hold less charge, giving less runtime.

Cleaning and Maintenance – 8/10

There is not much to do in terms of cleaning the OneBlade; it’s not like an electric shaver in that way. It also does not require oiling the blades, which hair clippers, trimmers, and electric shavers require.

To keep the blades clean, they only need to be rinsed in warm water.

What it does require is regular blade replacements that can get a little pricey, and Philips suggests that users replace the blades every four months — Based on two full shaves per week. 

There are so many variables to consider, like how often a person shaves, if they shave their body, and the coarseness of hair, for anyone to pinpoint the exact lifespan of the blades.

The blades have a wear indicator. They will begin to show a light green color to indicate the blades are wearing, and more green will appear as they wear more, which is a helpful feature.

Value for money – 8/10

I would go along with these unique shave, trim, and edging devices being a good overall buy and not too pricey for what we get. 

The Face model sells for around $38 USD (£21 – €28 ++ *), and the Face & Body retails for approximately $50 USD (£59 – €59*).

The higher costs — like with many other shavers and cartridge razors is in the blade replacements. Two facial blades cost approximately $24 USD, a Face & Body kit costs around $30 USD, and 1 – 3 and other blade options are available.

Any Common Consumer Issues, Complaints, or Positive Reports?

As expected, there are reports and reviews galore for the OneBlade as it has become a very popular shaving and trimming device bought and used by many. 

Some typical comments about the OneBlade include the length of time it takes to shave or trim –it shaves close enough but not baby butt smooth, and it does not cut or nick easily.

Some users have also picked up on hair flying all over the place I mentioned while shaving, but on a positive note, how sensitive and skin-friendly it is. 

Many gents love this little device for its intended use- trimming, edge-shaving, and shaving (remember, it’s not as close as a razor, as advertised).

Final Thoughts & Who is the Philips OneBlade best suited for?

The Philips OneBlade has been one of the most interesting reviews I have had to do for some time. A very unique trimming and shaving tool!

It’s not going to be a great tool for those who want the closest shave they can get or even the best trimmer. I have tested many dedicated trimmers, razors, and shavers, with many of these doing a better job. 

However………

For someone looking for a lightweight, easy-to-use beard grooming device, the OneBalde is worth considering. 

The OneBlade is a decent product for men to add to their shave rotation when switching over different shaving or trimming tools from day to day. I also see younger guys with less coarse hair getting on very well with this.

The other use that comes to mind is for travel. It’s a good all-round tool that can trim and shave just about everything, so you won’t need to pack various razors, shavers, and trimmers. It packs away nicely in a small travel pouch!

Radiators fail once more: Moscow suburbs residents appeal to Putin

R esidents across the Moscow suburbs are besieged by a heating problem, for which they plead direct intervention from President Vladimir Putin. These individuals have yet to experience any semblance of home heating since winter started due to a dwindling supply of heating oil. The issue, one largely avoided by local authority communication, has left residents desperate to the point of directly appealing to the president.

While plots have been uncovered to disrupt Ukraine's infrastructure for a second consecutive winter, thus depriving civilians of heating, it seems Russians are now mired in their crisis. Irony drips from the fact that those under Putin's leadership are looking to cause turmoil in Ukraine, yet at home, they face a similar predicament.

Many dwellings within the Moscow agglomeration are presently without heat. The capital's residents are desperate, directly appealing to President Putin due to a perceived lack of alternate avenues for assistance. The absence of suitable heating functionality since winter commenced pushes them towards desperation with no relief in sight.

This seems improbable, but in Russia, it appears that anything can happen.

It remains uncertain if Vladimir Putin is actively addressing the heating crisis. Some experts suggest that Russia's heating oil reserves are depleting, which negatively affects residents' quality of life. Plagued by cold radiators and plummeting winter temperatures, these citizens have directly addressed their pleas to their head of state.

This heating crisis is happening in Elektrostal, a town approximately 71 miles from Moscow.

Ironically, Russia has constantly aimed to destroy the Ukrainian infrastructure since war broke out, deliberately trying to leave Ukrainians without heating during the harsh winters, aiming to break their strong will. It's an irony they now struggle with a domestic heating crisis, particularly near Moscow, their largest and most pivotal city.

Desperate individuals are reaching out to Vladimir Putin. They question his knowledge of the heating infrastructure conditions in the Moscow suburbs and the dire situations residents face there. Sundown brings no relief from the harsh Russian winter and without heating, their houses turn cold. With elections nearing, more and more residents find themselves reaching out directly to their president.

"Since winter's start, we've been without heating. This has been a yearly occurrence for the past three years. Despite paying for heating, we don't have enough. We implore you, help us!" - these are the desperate pleas from the heavily dressed populace dealing with the Russian winter conditions.

Experts attribute the heating oil shortage to international sanctions and surging demands for diesel fuel, pivotal to military operations. Russia now grapples with a dearth of raw materials essential for boiler and heating plant operation. As supplies dwindle, houses grow cold with little hope of any immediate corrective intervention.

It would be adequate if the war ceased, residents were prioritized, and attention accorded to their welfare.
