Convenience-Store Industry Groups Express Concerns About Overtime Rule

Wawa opens its first alabama convenience store, what happened to foxtrot and dom’s market, quiktrip is more than a convenience store for youth.

Safe Place sign

QuikTrip Corp .  is more than just a convenience store and gasoline retailer for young people.  Through its partnership with National Safe Place Network and Safe Place partner agencies, QuikTrip stores are Safe Place locations where youth in crisis can access immediate help and safety.

Recognizable by the yellow and black Safe Place sign displayed on store facades or on signs in parking lots, the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based retailer has been helping youth in need for over 30 years across a network of more than 1,000 QuikTrip stores nationwide.

Last week, the retailer celebrated National Safe Place Week highlighting its employees’ efforts assisting runaways and at-risk youth.

“At QuikTrip, the safety and security of our employees and customers is always our top priority,” said QuikTrip Corporate Communications Manager Aisha Jefferson. “Through our partnership with National Safe Place Network, we provided crucial assistance to, on average, more than one youth per day over the past year. We salute our employees for embracing this important part of our mission and we also thank each of our 22 local partner agencies who provide vital services in our communities.”

  • QuikTrip is  No. 10  on  CSP’s  2023  Top 202 ranking  of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count.

Over the last year, QuikTrip facilitated 395 Safe Place calls, ensuring youth in need could access services and care in times of crisis. QuikTrip said it supports 22 Safe Place partner agencies across America through annual charitable giving and grants as part of its efforts to invest 5% of net profits into the communities it serves.

“We are so grateful for QuikTrip’s leadership as a Safe Place supporter,” said Laurie Jackson, president and CEO for National Safe Place Network. “Unfortunately, all across the country, there are young people in crisis looking for help. QuikTrip is often their first stop because they know it’s safe, clean and the employees are always willing to help. This partnership is saving and changing lives.”

Kansas city corporate 5725 foxridge drive | mission, ks 66202.

To wisely invest dollars in community efforts that will help impact (in measurable terms) individuals in our society who are dependent on the charitable support of others. We believe the most effective way to do that is to invest our contribution dollars and volunteers in strategic efforts that help those at risk reach their functional capacity as successful, independent citizens.

QuikTrip believes in investing in the communities in which our employees live and work. Every year, QuikTrip donates 5% of our annual net profit to qualified 501c3 non-profit agencies, which includes our United Way campaign match, support for National Safe Place agencies, Folds of Honor scholarships and many other agencies that support at-risk youth and early childhood education.

QuikTrip Invests in Public Safety

The retailer is investing more than $3 million in local nonprofits and law enforcement organizations.

November 30, 2023

quik trip grants

QuikTrip (QT) recently announced that it is investing more than $3 million in grants in local nonprofits and first responder organizations to address homelessness and increase safety in communities throughout the Phoenix metro area. Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and representatives from Phoenix law enforcement and select nonprofits were present at the announcement to speak about the impact of QuikTrip’s charitable giving.

(Curious about recent crime stats in c-stores? Help NACS conduct an industry-wide crime survey .)

QT also recognized longstanding partnerships with Valley of the Sun United Way and Child Crisis Arizona, as well as new investments with Phoenix Rescue Mission and Sojourner Center, which focus on helping homelessness and addiction.

“[In] the city of Phoenix, we know that it’s always better to tackle a problem together as opposed to on one’s own. That’s why, as Phoenix continues allocating and deploying critical resources at breakneck speed, I am grateful for QuikTrip’s partnership and its support of local nonprofits who are serving Phoenicians facing homelessness and addiction,” said Mayor Gallego. “I appreciate QT’s ongoing work with us to address our community’s most pressing challenges and hope this partnership inspires many more to come.”

Since opening its first Phoenix location in April 2000, QuikTrip has grown to have 115 stores and 3,249 employees in the Phoenix metro area. Since its founding in 1958, QuikTrip has donated 5% of net profits to the communities it serves. QuikTrip invested $3,084,896 in several organizations across the Valley.

QuikTrip stated that these investments are part of a larger mission of addressing the toughest issues facing Phoenix. “We have seen the incredible difference these groups are making by providing critical services that address the root causes of homelessness, addiction and crime. By supporting their efforts, we are proud to play a role in creating a safer, stronger and more prosperous community for all of Phoenix,” said Lauren Sherry, QuikTrip community relations manager. “Community is our customer, and we are committed to being a good neighbor in each community we serve.”

According to  national crime statistics  released by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), robbery increased 1.3% across the country in 2022. The FBI also reported that convenience stores and gas stations combined were the site of 13.8% of robberies in 2022.

To continue developing and sharing important resources for retailers, NACS is currently fielding an industry-wide crime and loss prevention survey. By  participating in the survey , retailers can assist NACS in quantifying critical industry-specific challenges and help prioritize and guide strategic actions to address these challenges.

“We’re asking all convenience and fuels retailers to provide us with their input on how crime is impacting their operations,” said Lori Stillman, vice president of research and education at NACS. “As we assemble an industry-wide working group to address the most pressing needs of our members, these data will be invaluable to our efforts.”
