Subtitles not showing on videos in Safari browser on mac

I click it to activate but no subtitles show. My husband has an older version of safari and subtitles work fine on the same video.

I have Safari version 14. I just updated to MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 yesterday to see if this would fix the problem, but problem remains.

Thanks for the reply! Actually subtitles in youtube work when they are available. I am trying to see subtitles in jw.org as they have videos in hundreds of languages. Here is an example of one that should have subtitles being able to be displayed:

This video is in English and I can see that button on the video to activate the subtitle but it doesn't work. You can also try the same for Chinese Mandarin simplified or traditional - the subtitle button is there but doesn't work.

I did try your suggestions and enabled closed captions but it didn't work.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand you are trying to view subtitles on the video you're watching but it's not working for you. We'd like to help.

You mentioned that you are viewing videos through Safari. Which website are you using? Do subtitles work on other websites? If it's not specific to that one website, this resource should help:

Have you been able to test out another browser on your Mac to see if the subtitles work there? If not, give that a try now. Then, connecting to Contact Apple Support would be the next best step.
