ANTHONY BOURDAIN’S BEST SAFE TRAVEL QUOTES

Anthony Bourdain was one of my favourite travellers EVER. Nobody was below him and he would learn from everyone, treat everyone equally and would try everything once.

He took a lot of risks, but always come out better on the other side. He was the ultimate traveller, and I’m sure his travel quotes will inspire you to grab life by the big ol’ balls and enjoy every moment! Enjoy these inspiring travel safe quotes from Anthony.

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain
“Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life—and travel—leaves marks on you.” – Anthony Bourdain
“Travel is about the gorgeous feeling of teetering in the unknown.” – Anthony Bourdain

Person on mountain for 101 of the Best Safe Journey Quotes and Safe Travel Wishes on the internet!

“I’ve long believed that good food, good eating, is all about risk. Whether we’re talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime ‘associates,’ food, for me, has always been an adventure.” – Anthony Bourdain
“I wanted kicks—the kind of melodramatic thrills and chills I’d yearned for since childhood, the kind of adventure I’d found as a little boy in the pages of my Tintin comic books.” – Anthony Bourdain
“It’s been an adventure. We took some casualties over the years. Things got broken. Things got lost. But I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.” – Anthony Bourdain
“Your body is not a temple, it’s an amusement park. Enjoy the ride.” – Anthony Bourdain

Man jumping down waterfall for 101 of the Best Safe Journey Quotes and Safe Travel Wishes on the internet!

“I’m a big believer in winging it. I’m a big believer that you’re never going to find perfect city travel experience or the perfect meal without a constant willingness to experience a bad one. Letting the happy accident happen is what a lot of vacation itineraries miss, I think, and I’m always trying to push people to allow those things to happen rather than stick to some rigid itinerary.” – Anthony Bourdain
“Do we really want to travel in hermetically sealed popemobiles through the rural provinces of France, Mexico , and the Far East, eating only in Hard Rock Cafes and McDonald’s? Or do we want to eat without fear, tearing into the local stew, the humble taqueria’s mystery meat, the sincerely offered gift of a lightly grilled fish head? I know what I want. I want it all. I want to try everything once.” – Anthony Bourdain
“If I am an advocate for anything, it is to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. Walk in someone else’s shoes or at least eat their food. It’s a plus for everybody.” – Anthony Bourdain

“A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.” – Lao Tzu

65 Beautiful Quotes to Wish Someone a Safe Journey

Know someone who is about to set off on holiday or go abroad? Here are 65 creative and thoughtful ways to say ‘Have a safe trip’. Copy and paste these safe journey wishes to show them that you care.

Saying goodbye to someone who’s about to depart on a journey can be difficult. Even as a writer, I often struggle to find the right words to say.

These days, I’m usually on the receiving end of goodbyes – but I’ve had to say my fair share of farewells, too.

While ‘Have a safe journey’ will sometimes suffice, quoting a simple message, a beautiful saying or even a traditional blessing is an easy way to make a farewell more meaningful and memorable.

I’ve searched books, song lyrics and inspirational sites to come up with this list of 65 safe journey wishes . You can say these out loud, or you can copy and paste your favourite into an email, use it in a caption on social media, or better still, jot it down on a hand-written note!

Tips for wishing someone a safe journey

Goodbyes are often emotional and can be overwhelming, especially when they take place at the airport or at the station. These tips can make saying farewell that much easier.

  • Don’t leave your goodbye until the last minute. If you want to make it meaningful, make sure you set aside enough time to say everything you want to say.
  • Focus on the next time you’ll meet. Whether it’s catching up for a meal or picking them up from the airport, make a plan and remind them (and yourself) that it’s only a matter of time before you see each other again.
  • Make a time to speak. If you know you’ll hear their voice when the flight lands or the train pulls in, you’ll feel much better about sending them off.
  • Remember, the person travelling is excited for the journey ahead – but they’re probably just as emotional as you!
  • Reassure them that you’ll be thinking of them. These safe journey wishes are perfect for just that.
  • It’s not only about what you say, it’s also what you do. Depending on your relationship, a warm hug or a hand on the shoulder can mean a lot.

Short and sweet safe journey wishes

These safe journey messages are thoughtful but to the point. They’re especially good for saying a quick goodbye on social media or by text message.

  • Best wishes for a safe, happy and fulfilling journey.
  • May the road be kind to you.
  • Go safe, move safe, leave safe, home safe.

This goodbye message comes from a Middle English phrase meaning ‘May you prosper’.

When NASA astronaut John Glenn made the first manned orbital flight in 1962, mission control used the word ‘Godspeed’ to wish him a safe journey.

  • Catch you on the flip side!

We often use this friendly way of saying goodbye in Australia. It comes from late-night radio DJs, who would use the phrase before they put on a vinyl record.

Listeners knew they wouldn’t hear from the DJ again until the record had played through and they had ‘flipped’ the vinyl to the B side.

  • Stay out of trouble!

A cheeky way of saying ‘Have a safe journey’, appropriate for someone you know well!

How to Actually Stay Safe While Traveling

Being able to wish someone safe travels is great, but there’s even better value in being able to tell them  how to  travel safely. Here are a few things you can do, or even remind those you love to do, before traveling.

  • Copy all important documents, like passports, and send email copies to yourself . This way, if anything is lost, you have a fail-safe to access and replace that information.
  • Take out enough cash to last 1-2 days in the destination you’re traveling to, but not more. A lot of people take their entire trip budget in cash, only to learn that they get hammered in currency exchange fees at the airport. You want to have cash in the destination currency when you land for cabs, groceries, and essentials in case you have issues with your credit and debit cards, but most ATMs overseas don’t charge fees. You’ll save money if you only take the cash you need .
  • Make sure someone has the contact information of where you’ll be staying. This is a truism that goes back decades, but traveling safely is about making sure someone can reach you in case of an emergency.
  • Safeguard your hotel room. If you want turn-down service, put your key valuables into a locked box or safe. Don’t just leave them out. We, of course, want to assume that hotel staff is honest, but there’s no reason to be on the short end of a poor assumption.
  • Be careful about WiFi. Make sure to pay bills online before you go, and try to avoid making online transactions over public WiFi when abroad. Networks that are unfamiliar to you shouldn’t see your personal information, and you’re at great risk when they do.

How to take a relaxing, stress-free vacation while staying safe

  • After a stressful few months, many people want to go on a relaxing vacation.
  • Destinations like Denver, Phoenix, and Roanoke, Virginia, offer enjoyable outdoor activities for different types of travelers.
  • Whenever you're ready to get away and relax, here are tips for choosing a place, planning a safe trip, and spending smart.

If 2020 has kept you guessing, you're not alone. Despite the uncertainty, it's still possible to take some time for yourself to relax. When you're ready, going on a vacation is a great way to recharge and unwind after a stressful several months.

Deciding what type of trip you want to take and finding the right location and partners that make the process easier are all factors in planning. Here are tips to help you prepare for your next getaway and make the most of it while staying safe.

Research ahead of time

One of the best ways to ensure relaxation is to do your research beforehand. Staying up to date on the government's travel guidelines will help keep things running smoothly and ensure safe travel for everyone. Research which destinations are open to travelers, and make sure the activities you're looking forward to at your destination are available. Find out before you go if you need to make a reservation.

Pick the right location for you

It may seem simple, but knowing what you and your travel companions find relaxing is vital to having a good time.

If you're a city person, check out Denver, where you'll find tons of outdoor dining, breweries, and mountain views to enjoy. Or for a warmer option, Phoenix has plenty of public art, restaurant patios, and stargazing to keep you busy.

Those looking to surround themselves with nature will love the quaint city of Roanoke, Virginia. Surrounded by mountains, this laid-back location is full of hiking trails and picnic spots, and it's especially stunning in the fall when the leaves change. If you want to stick with the Midwest, head up to Door County, Wisconsin, a charming peninsula where you can swim, sail, or just enjoy the scenery.

Of course, for some travelers, relaxation is all about the beach. For that, there's no better destination than Cancun, which was one of the first  to receive the "safe travels" stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council, making it a go-to spot for safety-conscious travelers. Plus, there's year-round warm weather, stunning blue water, and an endless supply of tropical drinks.

Be flexible

This may be the most important tip of 2020.

Take advantage of new flexible policies at airlines and hotels to set your mind at ease. United recently ended change fees for its domestic flights, and with the new, no annual fee United Gateway SM Card , there are no blackout dates for award travel either. Staying flexible, given new airline and hotel policies eliminating change fees, will make life easier and less stressful.

Spend smart

A major source of stress on vacations can be money, so having a budget beforehand helps alleviate that.

When you're budgeting, consider what's most important to you: Dining? Ease of transportation? Cultural activities? Allocate more of your money toward the things that will make your trip the most enjoyable for you.

And when you're saving for the trip, you can maximize your everyday purchases with bonuses like extra miles on grocery spending with the new, no annual fee United Gateway SM Card.

Do nothing. Really.

It's easy to feel pressure to see and do everything when you visit somewhere new, but that doesn't make for a very relaxing trip.

Set aside time, whether it's an afternoon or a whole day, to not make any plans. Enjoy a walk around a new neighborhood, spend some time in the park, or just have a lazy morning wherever you're staying.

It may seem paradoxical, but planning to do nothing will help to alleviate any guilt you might feel about not maximizing every moment with new activities.

Edit your phone to unplug

If your trip is supposed to be a vacation, make sure it actually is.

It can be tempting to check in with work while you're on the road, but that will only make it more difficult to relax. Prevent that temptation by temporarily removing work-related messaging apps and turning off your email notifications.

Social media can be another stress even when you're not traveling, so download one of the many apps that will automatically limit your time on social platforms so that you can focus on what you're there for: enjoying your trip and relaxing.

Traveling in 2020 is new for everyone, but with a bit of caution and preparation it can still be just as relaxing as vacations you've taken in the past. Remember to be flexible, choose a safe destination, and — above all — enjoy yourself.

  • Travel Tips

If your loved one is new to flying, then here are a few helpful tips to ensure everything goes smoothly

  • This is especially true for flying out of a major city hub. If you’re flying out of a major city and flying internationally, then you may want to arrive at the airport 2-3 hours before the departure time.
  • If possible, consider bringing only a personal and a carryon for your trip and avoid checking a bag. This will save you money since most airlines charge you to check bags (some charge you for carryons as well). It will also save you time since you do not have to worry about dropping your luggage off at the gate.
  • Flights tend to dehydrate you, so do your best to hydrate well throughout the flight.
  • The mobile app allows an airline to send push notifications directly to your phone indicating you of any gate changes, delays, and more.
  • Checking into your flight online often saves you time and money. Then you can pull up your boarding pass directly on your phone without having to worry about losing your paper boarding pass ticket.
  • Some flights are hot and some are cold, I always bring an extra layer to keep me warm during a flight. If I get hot I can always take it off!

It sure was helpful when you said that you must do your best to do well throughout the flight since lights tend to dehydrate you. This is something that I will share with my parents since they mentioned that they are planning to rent a helicopter for a tour next week. They have been wanting to tour different places since last year, and they want to do their adventures before the year ends.

11 Better Ways To Say “Safe Travels”

“Safe travels” is a polite way to wish somebody well on their upcoming journey. However, there are better ways to be polite and reassuring to your friends when they’re ready to go somewhere (often by plane). This article will share the best alternatives for such a case with you.

What Can I Say Instead Of “Safe Travels”?

There are plenty of ways to use “safe travels” in more exciting manners. You should check out one of the following:

  • Have a good flight
  • Happy landings
  • See you on the other side
  • Let me know when you arrive safely
  • Stay safe out there
  • Enjoy your trip
  • Have a relaxing time away
  • Happy travels

Better Ways To Say Safe Travels

The preferred version is “be safe” because it keeps it simple. It’s a common phrase we use when we want to wish someone well, and we don’t want them to come across any complications or dangers that might occur if they’re not “careful” enough.

“Be safe” is great to show we care about someone. It lets them know that we worry about them, and we want them to stay “safe” no matter what happens. It works regardless of the method of transport for the journey as well, which makes it a good general phrase.

It’s common for family members to use the phrase “ be safe ” when seeing each other off. This shows that there is a lot of love behind the phrase and that it works well to show how much you care about someone’s wellbeing.

Here are a few ways we might be able to use this phrase:

  • Be safe out there. I know you like to find trouble, but for once, I’d love it if you looked after yourself!
  • Be safe on your way out! I would love to hear from you and see the pictures of all the things you get up to.
  • Don’t forget to message me when you get there! Be safe, and I love you!

“Safe trip” is a simple phrase we can use to make sure someone knows we care. Using words like “safe” reminds people that we worry about them. Even if we are not physically there with them, we hope they are “safe” and do not get into trouble.

This phrase works well regardless of the trip that someone is taking. It could be a long-distance or a short-distance trip. Likewise, it could be by car, plane, boat, or something else entirely!

This phrase works in the following situations:

  • Safe trip, Yuri! I’ll miss you, but I know you’ll be thinking about me while you’re away.
  • Safe trip back to your hometown, then. Let me know when you get there safely.
  • Safe trip, old friend. I’ll see you again whenever you’re next in town!

Have A Good Flight

“Have a good flight” is appropriate to use when someone is going to get on a plane . We use “flight” here to be specific, which helps us to show that we know what someone is getting up to and what they’re likely going to expect from their journey.

We can use this phrase in the following ways:

  • Have a good flight! I’m sure you can get all the food and drink you want on there!
  • Have a good flight, and don’t forget to let me know when you land safely!
  • Have a good flight! There’s nothing to worry about, and you know it’ll all be okay!

Happy Landings

“Happy landings” specifically highlights the “landing” portion of a journey. It works well when someone is going on a plane, and we want them to be “happy” throughout the course of their journey.

Here are a few useful examples of how this one works:

  • Happy landings, fella! Don’t forget that they really like their tips out there when you’re dining out!
  • Happy landings, then! I’ll miss you every second, so I want you to send me all the photos you can!
  • Happy landings! Don’t forget to explore some of the local scenery!

See You On The Other Side

“See you on the other side” is an informal idiom that works well in many cases. We can do it when we know that someone will be returning to see us again soon. “The other side” indicates the place where we will be staying while they go on a journey.

Check out some of these examples to see how it looks:

  • See you on the other side, then! Have a great holiday!
  • Have a great time away, Fred! See you on the other side!
  • I’ll be here waiting for you as always! See you on the other side!

Let Me Know When You Arrive Safely

“Let me know when you arrive safely” is a calm way to let someone know that you are worried. When they arrive at their destination, we can ask them to “message” us to ease our minds and show us that they are thinking about us even after their journey.

We could also use a phrase like “text me when” instead of “let me know when.” If we want to be more specific about the manner of messaging, this phrase works just as well.

This phrase works well in the following ways:

  • Let me know when you arrive safely, please! You know how much I worry about you while I’m not around!
  • Text me when you arrive safely, please! I want to know just how much fun you’re getting up to.
  • Let me know when you arrive safely! I’ll miss you every second that you’re away.

Stay Safe Out There

“Stay safe out there” is a good way to show that you care about someone. “Stay safe” helps to let them know that you’ll be looking out for them and that you want them to explore, but in a reasonable way that won’t cause them harm.

We typically use this phrase when someone is going on a long-distance journey. “Out there” is a good indicator of that.

Check out some of these examples to see how it works:

  • Stay safe out there, then! I know you’ll make all the best choices while you’re away.
  • Stay safe out there! I’ll miss you, but I know you’ll be having an absolutely adoring time!
  • Stay safe out there. You never know what hijinx you might get into, so make sure you text me!

Enjoy Your Trip

“Enjoy your trip” is a simple way to show someone that you care. It helps to let them know that we want them to “enjoy” themselves. While trips can sometimes be boring (especially long-distance ones), we want people to feel like they can still have fun.

This simple phrase works as follows :

  • Enjoy your trip, Michael! Let me know when you arrive so we can discuss the adventure more!
  • Enjoy your trip! Don’t forget to immerse yourself in the local culture when you get there!
  • Enjoy your trip! I expect you to be fluent in German by the time you get back, okay?

Have A Relaxing Time Away

“Have a relaxing time away” works well in many cases. It’s most effective when we know that someone is inclined to worry (whether about the journey or the place they’re going). If we want to calm them down, this phrase works well.

These examples will help you make more sense of it:

  • Have a relaxing time away! Remember, you don’t need to worry about a thing when you get on that plane!
  • Have a relaxing time away! If anyone deserves it, it is most certainly you!
  • Have a relaxing time away! I’m going to miss you, but I know you’ll be back in no time!

Happy Travels

“Happy travels” works really well when we want people to feel “happy” on their journey. “Travels” can refer to any method of transport, but the idea is that they’ll be spending a long time getting from point A to point B, and we want them to feel “happy.”

Perhaps one of these examples will help you make more sense of it:

  • Happy travels, mate! I know you’ll love it over there in Australia, but you must tell me all about it.
  • Happy travels, Sue! I’ll miss you, so don’t forget to write to me every day about what you do.
  • Happy travels, Dan! Thank you for coming to see me again, and I’ll see you again soon, yeah?

“Bon voyage” is a great way to wish someone well before they go on an adventure. It’s French (and Italian), and it means “good journey.” It’s a commonly-used exclamation in English when we want to wish somebody well for something they’re going to do.

It’s also comforting because it shows that we do not wish any problems to come their way when they’re on their journey.

  • Bon voyage, my little friend! I’ll see you again when you return!
  • Bon voyage, then! I will miss you, but I hope you get a chance to text me a bunch when you get there!
  • Bon voyage! I love you so much, and I’ll definitely miss you while you’re away.

Traveling solo for the first time can be nerve wrecking. Choosing your destination plays an important role in making or breaking your experience. A good trip will have you gushing over the pros of solo travel for a long time to come, followed by several such journeys or even long term travels.

Luckily, my first solo destination was also one of my favorites and it surely gave me the confidence to venture out on my own. So much so, that now I prefer traveling alone and truly enjoy the perks in terms of flexibility of plans and adventuring your way!

30 Best and Safest Places to Travel Solo

Top destinations for your first solo adventure

Vang Vieng, Laos – My personal choice

River Tubing in Vang Vieng

Since my first solo escapade to Laos, I traveled all over south east asia for an year and explored many countries on my own. However, from a first timers perspective I would rate Vang Vieng as one of the coolest and easiest places to go solo. Why? Well, firstly its easy to make friends and then there’s lots to do (not just in VV but all over Laos).

It is perfect for adrenaline junkies, explorers, nature lovers, party goers and backpackers. So, you can have a great time, make new friends instantly and all that – without breaking the bank! Sounds like your kinda place?

Read about my adventures in Laos below to learn why I highly recommend it as a solo travel destination –

Dirt Biking in Laos River Tubing in Vang Vieng (Also one of my top activities there) Water Activities in Vang Vieng

If I were to do it all over again, I would probably choose Georgia as my first time solo destination as it is easy, fabulous and well, cheap, compared to its other European counterparts. Plus, after reading about all the fantastic things to do in Georgia , I am pretty much sold on this destination.

Coron, Philippines recommended by Nathan Aguilera from FoodieFlashpacker

coron Philippines

One of the easiest places in the world for solo travelers, first time or otherwise, would be Coron, Philippines.

There’s so much to see and do all over the Philippines, the people are wonderful, and without the language barrier you can easily interact and befriend locals.

Samoa recommended by Dane from HolidayFromWhere

samoa for solo travelers

Depending on where you are flying from Samoa may not be the easiest place to get to but from Australia, New Zealand or West Coast USA it is not a problem. Once you are there how ever you will find this an extremely hospitable destination especially if you are alone and travelling for the first time. Upon landing the first thing you will notice when you leave the airport is the warmth and genuine kindness of the local islanders. They are a large jovial people that are always laughing and always want to talk and find out where you are from and what you are doing in Samoa. There are all these giant men with this tiny high pitched laughs that I could never wrap my head around.

Once there depending on what you enjoy Samoa is super easy to navigate due to the fact it is a relatively small island. There are resorts along the north and south coasts ranging from budget to luxury. I literally stayed in a straw cabin shaded by palm trees where the water came up under my room at high tide and this was a well priced place that included breakfast and dinner.

Busses are fairly common and easy to take, renting a car is also an easy process and give you complete freedom to navigate the more hidden gems of the island such as waterfalls, black sand beaches and countless small bays and amazing beaches.

Between the amount of activities and how much you will be approached by the locals there should never be any moments of boredom as long as you are will to open yourself up to random conversation.

Budapest, Europe recommended by Barbara Wagner from JetSettera

latkep budapest europe

Budapest, in the heart of Europe is an ideal destination for first time travellers. It is easily accessible by train, plane or bus. The infrastructure is excellent and many people speak English. Budapest is a fascinating city with a vibrant nightlife and a rich history. It is a great place to learn about Eastern-European history or taking a boat cruise down the river Danube during the day or discovering the ruin pubs during the night.

The city is vibrant, modern, with great restaurants and cafes. Lots of young people come to visit Budapest during the Summer as the biggest Eastern-European music festival takes place here in August, which attracts many young Western Europeans. The country is considerably cheap and he nightlife is superb. The must see spots include: The Budavar Castle, The Bazilika, Szimpla Kert, Jewish District, Heroes Square.

Luang Prabang, Laos recommended by Ruben and Rachel from GaminTraveler

luang prabang waterfalls in laos

If you decide to take the plunge and start your first time solo travel. Here´s a great option: Luang Prabang in Laos. I traveled to this city by myself, and it´s one of the easiest places to meet people. Locals are very friendly. And they are all willing to talk to you to practice their English and to know more about you and your culture, as a foreigner. You can also meet many travelers who are also traveling around Laos and spending a few days in Luang Prabang. There are many plans to do around Luang Prabang. Visiting temples, chasing sunsets, and visiting the Kuangsi Waterfalls. While visiting those places, you will meet many people. One more thing, eating in the local market or local restaurants will help to make new local friends.

Lima, Peru recommended by Dan Bagby of HoneymoonAlways

swimmingwithsealions

Lima, Peru was my first destination as a solo traveler a few years ago when I was a senior in college.  I actually stopped there on my way to Brazil for 3 days and it made for a great trip because it was very affordable, the locals were nice and helpful and there were plenty of things to do during my stay.  I researched hostels and hotels and found an affordable hotel in Miraflores, one of the most affluent and safest neighborhoods in Lima.  When I arrived at the hotel, I quickly met with the manager to plan my stay.  He made recommendation for what to do and I booked a city tour and a cruise to swim with sea lions.

It was easy to make plans to see the city and on each activity I met very friendly people and had a great time.  Swimming with sea lions was one of the best experiences I have ever had traveling and on the cruise were some friendly Brazilians I made friends with.  On a city tour, I met a solo traveler from London who I then went to dinner with and stayed out with that night.

Bangkok, Thailand recommended by Aleah Taboclaon of Solitary Wanderer

solitary wanderer -- wat pho, bangkok

For solo travelers, especially those who are just starting out, there’s no other destination I would highly recommend than Bangkok. This Thai capital welcomes millions of international visitors every year, so it won’t be hard to meet other travelers. Accommodation is cheap, food is delicious (even the ones sold on the streets!), and it’s very easy to get around using the metro, the BTS, the moto, and the tuktuk. Whatever you’re after as a solo traveler, you’ll find it in Bangkok — culture, food, adventure, nature, and a vibrant nightlife, among many others. I lived 4 months there and I still wasn’t able to plumb its depths. It’s no wonder why travelers worldwide, when they want to travel to Asia, think of Bangkok first.

Berlin, Germany recommended by Adelina from PackMeTo

Overlooking Berlin - Adelina Wong

Berlin, Germany is a fantastic destination for the first time solo traveler. The whole time I was in the city, I felt very safe and welcomed. The city is very easy to navigate with an extensive public transit system and well-marked streets. Most people speak English so if you get overwhelmed by being in a foreign country, you can take comfort in knowing that you can easily communicate. There are also a lot of expats and English friendly gatherings that happen in the city where you can meet locals (look on Meetup!). The city is also home to so many different things to do depending on your interests. From art museums to historical sites to great food, whatever your interesting, you can easily fill a day with activities so you don’t feel lonely. All these things make Berlin a great option when you’re getting your feet wet with solo travel.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam recommended by Sally Lucas from Our3KidsvtheWorld

independence palace saigon

HCMC is a good place to organise day tours which you can organise at your tour desk upon arrival. Popular places to visit include the Mekong Delta, Cu Chi Tunnels , Mui Ne, Long Tan or Cai Be Floating Markets, all these are reasonably prices and tours are well organised. Make sure you take a cyclo tour of the HCMC, touring a rickshaw like bicycle, these are slowly being fazed out.

Belfast, Northern Ireland by Lindsay Mickles from TheNeverendingWanderlust

belfast ireland solo travel

Northern Ireland, well Belfast in particular, is a fantastic place to take your very first solo trip. The city center has everything you could possibly need, and there is easy access to city and regional tours. I stayed in the city center and the tours I took picked me up directly from (or nearby) my hotel – a huge relief!

I would suggest taking a tour of the city, via taxi or city bus tour, and allot extra time to wander around the Shankhill area. In addition, be sure to take a full day-tour to check out Giant’s Causeway and the Antrim Coast.

Milan, Italy recommended by Margherita Ragg from TheCrowdedPlanet

Milan italy solo

Milan is often overlooked as a destination by travellers, and it is only used as a jump-off point to destinations like Lake Como and Cinque Terre or as a transport hub. Maybe I’m a bit biased because it’s my hometown, but I think Milan is a great destination for first time travellers to Italy. First of all, it’s not as busy and crowded with tourists as other Italian cities like Rome and Venice, public transport is easy to figure out, and lots of people speak English! There’s plenty to do to fill a few days – make sure you start from the Duomo, the wonderful cathedral in the picture and a must visit while in town. Milan sometimes gets the reputation of being an expensive city, but there are so many free things to do in Milan that you can really have fun without breaking the bank!

Isle of Skye, Scotland recommended by Helena from ThroughanAussiesEyes

 The Quirang isle of skye

I have always wanted to travel. After a messy break up, I didn’t give it a second thought and I booked a solo ticket to the Isle of Skye, Scotland. I had never travelled solo before so this was a real adventure for me. If you have never been to Skye than I highly recommend exploring this fairytale isle. Skye is really easy to navigate with lots to see around every corner – perfect for a solo traveller. I hired a car (that is my preference) but I saw plenty of people hitchhiking around and the locals were more than happy to give them a lift up the road. I came across so many beautiful people. My B&B host saw that I was struggling to dry my clothes (it rains a LOT in Scotland) so she washed and tumble dried all of my clothing for me while I was out. This was exactly what I needed! The Isle of Skye was the perfect destination for a first time solo traveller. It was easy to navigate and had plenty to see and do for a solo person. If you wanted to meet some of the friendliest people in the world, than the Isle of Skye, Scotland is for you.

Oslo, Norway recommended by Dr. Cacinda Maloney of  PointsandTravel.com

Oslo, Norway by PointsandTravel

For a solo traveler, I think Oslo is an easy first time experience. First, they speak English and that may be half the battle when traveling solo. Then, there is a direct train that takes you from the Oslo Airport to the Oslo Central Train station. This easy-to-catch train will take you right to the center of town, where you can easily find your nearby hotel. This area of the city is built on a grid system and so everything spreads out from the main central train station that you arrived in. As you walk out of the train station, you will be facing Carl Johans Gate, where you can walk straight ahead and find everything you need: parks, art museums, pubs, piano bars and one amazing city to explore.

Melbourne, Victoria recommended by Danni Lawson from Livein10Countries

white night melbourne

Grabbing a working holiday visa and boarding the neverending flight to Australia is a right of passage for many. It’s the perfect place to take your first solo trip because there are so many other people in the same boat, and there’s an atmosphere of collaboration- I had people in hostels eager to lend me dressy  interview clothes so that I could land my first paid shift!

In fact it’s hard to stay alone in Melbourne for long, as the city pays red-coated tourist assistants to answer questions and help you in Federation Square, while in Chinatown the food is delicious and at lunchtime you’re guaranteed to be seated with a lot of other diners tucking into their dumplings. As you find your feet solo, a lot of things will be breezy in Melbourne, from the bank account I opened before I even landed, to the free trams that run the whole city centre without tickets and even the free attractions where you can go even if your budget runs out: the ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image), St Kilda Beach and the incredible White Night every year.

Himachal Pradesh, India recommended by Sudipto De from SaltandSandals

camping at triund

The path starts from Dharamkot and is dotted with small shops selling cold drinks and bowls of Maggi. You can find tents on the Triund top for which you’ll have to pay at base camp. The feeling of solitude, the exertion of climbing and the fresh, clean mountain air rushing into your lungs is something that will make your head airy. Do try out this trek for your first time.

Byron Bay, Australia recommended by Sonja Thomson from Migrating Miss

Byron Bay Australia Sunset

Byron Bay is the perfect place for solo travellers. It has an easygoing vibe that you can feel as soon as your enter the coastal town. With places like the Arts Factory Lodge to stay at where you’ll be welcomed into a family of likeminded travellers, it couldn’t be easier. Every night people gather on the beach to watch the beautiful sunset at one of the best sunset spots on Australia’s east coast, while listening to the music of whoever is passing through and feels like playing that night. If you’re worried about travelling solo, you’ll forget about that as soon as you go to Byron Bay.

Port Fairy, Victoria recommended by Raksha Prasad of SoloPassport

port fairy lighthouse

My first solo travel was to a coastal town called Port Fairy in the state of Victoria in Australia. It is about 290 kilometers from Melbourne. Port Fairy has a rich history and has about 50 buildings that are protected by the National Trust of Australia. It is the beautiful blue-stone town on the famous Great Ocean Road. Imagine a good book, warm sunny weather and a blue waterfront walkway, where you can put your feet down, sitting along the side of the water – that’s how Port Fairy was for me. I enjoyed every bit of my first solo travel.

Even though it was my first time travelling solo what worked for me was that the town was very easy for me to explore. The roads were very well marked and the locals were extremely friendly, approachable and helpful, no wonder the town has been voted as one of the World’s most livable cities with a population under 20,000.

The Port Fairy visitor center is a very good place to start for the first time travelers in the region. They have all the information that is required, including the activities to do, places to stay and eat. They also offer bicycles for hire. The city can easily be explored either on a bicycle or by walk.

I would definitely rate this town as one of the best towns to start the solo travels in Australia. It is a cute little town in which I made some good memories.

Cornwall, UK recommended by Claire Summers of ClairesItchyFeet

cornwall uk for solo travel

So many people never make it out of London when visiting the UK but if you are a first time traveller and looking for somewhere friendly and easy to explore then make sure Cornwall is on your list. Firstly it’s stunning, it looks like something out of a fairy story, which is why so many films shoot there, and it has some of the most incredible coastal paths and scenery. The locals are some of the friendliest people you could ever hope to meet and traditional foods include: The Cornish Pasty, Cream teas (careful which order you put your jam and cream on), fish and chips and most importantly Cider!

If you are a budget traveller there may not be so many hostels of budget B&Bs but there are plenty of camping and caravan sites and so many people opening up their homes to AirBnb users. The only tricky part can be transportation as public transport isn’t great. My advice would be to take the train to somewhere like Plymouth and hire a car (or better yet a caravan) and road trip it. No matter the time of year Cornwall is great, Summer on one of the many beaches or in the sea learning to surf or winter tucked up in a pub in front of a open fire drinking warm cider after a winter walk.

Playa Del Carmen, Mexico by Hannah & Adam of GettingStamped

Playa del Carmen travel guide - Things to do in Playa del Carmen - Valladolid

Traveling as solo traveler to Playa del Carmen is super easy and it starts at the airport. There is a bus directly at the Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen and in an hour you arrive at the beach in paradise. Head to Mamitas Beach Club and you’ll instantly meet friends on the beach there to have a good time too. Playa del Carmen is a super easy city to get around many tourist rent bikes or I prefer to walk, there is some great street art and tasty food carts to be found on the side streets. If you’d rather make some friends under the sea jump in a collectivo taxi and head to Akumal beach where you can swim with the sea turtles. You are guaranteed to see sea turtles in Akumal and it’s one of the best day trips from Playa del Carmen. I loved the vibe in Playa del Carmen and let’s get real the tacos & margaritas are amazing.

Playa del Carmen is an ideal destination to travel to in Mexico. It’s very tourist friendly but still has the authentic flavors and culture of Mexico. You’ll never run out of things to do in Playa del Carmen.

Prague, Czech Republic recommended by Shara Johnson of SKJ Travel

prague view

I found Prague to be fantastically simple to get around on my own … I spent two weeks there. There are plenty of hostels and hotels in the historic centers, and most places you’ll want to explore are within easy walking distance of one another. If you don’t want to spend all day on your feet, the key to happiness is to get a transit pass for the red trams. These make it super easy and efficient to get around town. (So if you book a room outside the center, just stay near a tram stop.)

There’s also a Metro, adding convenient access to even more areas of interest. A language barrier can feel daunting when you’re on your own, but you don’t need to know the Czech language in Prague to figure anything out (although it’s nice to know some basic polite greetings/phrases). There is a university right next to the Old Town, so lots of young people are around, who are always helpful to tourists. Prague is a comparatively safe city for its size in terms of crime, I personally never had an uncomfortable incident, not even late at night. All factors align to make Prague very solo-friendly.

Hoi An, Vietnam recommended by Stef from Every Steph

hoi-an landscapes

I arrived in Hoi An, Vietnam, after a rough start in the country, but the city is so beautiful that completely conquered me. I was traveling alone, and I can totally recommend this destination if you are traveling solo. Hoi An is small enough to be able to walk everywhere, and if you fancy some beach time (who doesn’t), the beach is just a short bike ride away which sees you pedaling by paddy fields and water buffalos. The landscapes are just beautiful! There are plenty of hostels to choose from, and most of them are very social and organize activities, cooking classes, and tours so it’s easy to make friends. If you want to interact with the locals, simply head to the food market where you will be welcomed warmly.

I forgot to mention that Hoi An features loads of cheap restaurants where to have some of the best food in Vietnam! Hoi An is a destination not to miss.

Barcelona, Spain as recommended by Gabor Kovacs from SurfingThePlanet

barcelona spain city view

Barcelona is one of the most popular destinations in Europe, and it’s especially fancied as a first travel destination amongst young people. It’s a really easy destination for many reasons. There are low cost flights to Barcelona from almost all major cities in Europe, which makes it accessible to everyone. Barcelona is a very compact city with most of the main attractions situated in a relatively small area, and in addition, it has a fabulous metro network and a very cheap public transport system.

Barcelona has everything to offer you for a first great travel experience: wonderful monuments, one of the best urban beaches in the world, great food and intense nightlife. Barcelona is also a very cosmopolitan city, where a huge number of foreign people live, and you will meet a lot of other foreign travelers to make friends with. In Barcelona you can get along speaking only English, which is not true at all in the rest of Spain. There are many things to do in Barcelona , and you can easily find either budget or luxury options.

Krabi, Thailand recommended by Nisha Jha from Lemonicks

Overlooking the Krabi RIver

When I think of a friendly place where I travelled solo, Krabi in Thailand comes first to my mind. Whether you stay on the beachside or in the town, Krabi is very welcoming. I stayed in a little guesthouse by the riverfront. One of the daily markets was just along the river and I enjoyed going there and making new friends. People are friendly, helpful and they make you comfortable. I remember a German girl who recently had a break-off and chose Krabi to visit. Not to mention, Krabi soothed her.

The rock faces at Railay Beach near Ao Nang have attracted climbers from all over the world. One can go & learn rock climbing from the experts at any of the rock climbing schools at Railay Beach. Every year, it is also the venue for the Rock and Fire Festival.

Krabi, the capital of southern Thailand’s Krabi Province, is a resort town near the Andaman coast. The province includes over 80 smaller islands such as Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi. I have visited these and many more and can vouch for all of them. These islands are well-known to adventurers, yachtsmen, scuba-divers, snorkelers, and day-trippers coming from Phuket also. Krabi’s beaches attract both locals and foreigners alike. There are a few national parks as well.

Istanbul, Turkey recommended by Pedro Richardson from TravelWithPedro

istanbul-travel-with-pedro

But what makes the city a great place for those on their first solo trips, is the people. Even for such a big and busy metropolis, Istanbulites are very friendly and welcoming of tourists. In the past there used to be a lot of tourist traps that we needed to be aware of. Nowadays that’s a really rare occurrence. Most people you’re likely to interact with speak English, even at local cafes, so language is not an issue.

And, believe it or not, the city is actually very modern and, in many areas, you would think you’re actually somewhere in Italy or France. But the moment you hear the call to prayer coming from a nearby mosque, you will realise you’re actually in one of the most amazing cities in the world.

Singapore recommended by Lina & David Stock from DivergentTravelers

gardens by the bay singapore

Singapore gives you everything you need for the perfect introduction to Southeast Asia as a solo traveler. It is clean, modern and incredibly safe for foreign travelers. The metro system gives you ease of access to any part of the city you could dream of visiting and also offers a wide variety of free things to do during your visit. There are several hostels located on the metro lines that offer a communal living experience and a chance to meet other travelers. Being a progressive country, most people in Singapore also speak English, making it easy to ask questions and interact with the locals when you are out exploring the city. It is a city that will put you at ease after a long flight and ease you gently into this region of the world.

Stockholm, Sweden recommended by Allison Green from EternalArrival

northern lights in stockholm sweden

Stockholm, Sweden is a perfect location for first time solo travelers. For one, the crime rate is virtually nil – this is one of the safest cities on earth. You can walk around Stockholm any time day or night without needing to worry about your safety. For another, English is widely spoken – in fact, when I asked a sales person if she spoke English, she looked at me as if offended and said “of course!” There are no shortage of sights to be seen, from the Royal Palace to Gamla Stan to the Vasa Museum. It is, however, a bit of a pricy destination – expect to spend around $30 per night even for a dorm bed and $15 at a minimum for a meal out – but it’s worth every penny.

If you have time and you’re visiting Stockholm in the winter, try to catch a cheap flight up to Kiruna where you can see the Northern Lights! Believe it or not, there are some hostels all the way in the Arctic Circle, so you can make friends and look up at the gorgeous Northern lights above you. Surprisingly, this isn’t too hard to do on a budget – check out how you can spend 3 days seeing the Northern lights on a budget of just $350 USD, including flights!

Tel Aviv, Israel recommended by Trisha Velarmino from PSImOnMyWay

tel aviv nightlife

I can’t explain it but the Tel Avivians just always make ‘easy’ happen! Everyone (as in everyone) speaks English so you don’t have to worry about communicating. I swear to you, you will feel comfortable right off the bat in Tel Aviv.

Edinburgh, Scotland recommended by Stephanie Mayo from TheWorldasIseeit

edinburgh castle scotland

Edinburgh is a fabulous city to travel to for first time solo travelers. Edinburgh is full of amazing sights, like the Castle, the Royal Mile, and Holyrood Palace. And because it’s set up on a grid layout of streets, it makes getting around and navigating easy. Buses and trains are easily accessible. From getting to and from the airport or getting in and out via public transport, you won’t be lost on how to maneuver the transport system.

There are there countless fun and hip hostels across that you are guaranteed to meet fellow travelers to explore with. If it’s locals you’re looking for, than head to any of the classic pubs, especially the ones that are just outside the downtown core, or around the university. There are also a variety of tours, both free and otherwise, where you can meet fellow travelers that are also eager to explore.

Tallinn, Estonia recommended by Evan Kristine from PrettyWildWorld

things-to-do-in-tallinn

Tallinn is the closest foreign city accessible from Helsinki in just under 3 hours. Of course, I chose it as the first destination I shall travel on my own! It is entirely different from Finland, yet it feels closer to home. But that is not the only reason why I went to Tallinn; it is because the city itself is small, accessible, and interesting – perfect for a weekend getaway. In addition to this, hostels in Tallinn are amazing, and you’ll meet tons of interesting backpackers during your stay who are opting for a more untraditional way of exploring things. Tallinn is not a popular destination yet and is often overlooked, that’s why I would love to shine a light to the beautiful medieval city and ask fellow solo travelers to give it a try! You won’t regret it!

Another amazing solo destination which I really want to try in North east India is Sikkim, but booking through a trusted site like Sikkim Tourism is recommended.

So these were some of the easiest, cheapest and safest places to travel on your now. Are you ready for your first solo adventure now? Tell me where you would go and why!

Great list, I will have to put some of these on the bucket list.

' src=

I have so many friends telling me they wish they could travel like we do but they don’t have anyone to travel with. I try to tell them that so many people travel solo! Anyways, next time I hear that I am going to send over this collection of solo travelers & destinations to inspire them and show them so many people are out there doing this and they can to!

' src=

I agree – I am always pushing my friends to go solo 🙂

' src=

This is such a great list of anyone traveling solo!! There’s so many places already on my list. I hope I get to Peru as it’s one of my top destinations to visit this year!

' src=

What a fantastic round up, and I totally agree with so many of these countries. So so so beautiful and totally safe to travel. Some of my favourites have been Istanbul, Singapore, Bangkok, Byron Bay, Melbourne, Hoi Anh, Krabi…all such fantastic places. Playa Del Carmen sounds amazing! I would totally like to head here one day. And omg Budapest – yes please!!!

I have those exact spots on my bucket list too – Would love to check out Budapest and Playa Del Carmen.

' src=

I lived in Norway for a little bit and I agree that it’s a great country for a solo traveler. This is really a wonderful roundup for people who want to travel but want to stick to places that are better for those of us who travel solo 🙂

' src=

Great tips.. that photo from Peru.. what?!?! Anyway, I’d definitely add that anywhere that you already speak the native language would just be easier for a solo traveler as well though. I was glad I had a friend with me in India and didn’t go it alone but I was up north and I’ve heard the south is quite a bit different. I’ll have to go back sometime… maybe alone!

' src=

So many of these places are on my travel bucket list! And I love the idea of swimming with sea lions Peru (I didn’t even know that was possible). My first solo trip was relatively tame in comparison — I did Cambria in California (near Hearst Castle) and then Monterey/Carmel. I became one of those people who fell in love with traveling again (it had been many years since I did it for pleasure), and the Central Coast of California remains one of my favorite parts of the world.

' src=

This is quite a list and I have only been to a few of these places. I am excited to hear that women felt same traveling solo through Southeast Asia. I would like to travel there in the near future and might end up alone.

' src=

Nice list! I just got back from Bangkok last week and can say I felt completely safe my whole trip. Everyone that I encountered were friendly and respectful.

I’m surprise Iceland isn’t on this list. That was the first trip I was by myself outside the US. I did a lot of research before going and many female bloggers talk about how safe they felt their.

' src=

What lovely choices and so many are new to me! We always travel with the kids so safety is a big concern for us, too. Always wise to consider safety. Great comprehensive list!!

' src=

Out of this list, I have traveled to three places solo – Istanbul, Himachal and Goa. 🙂 Sadly Istanbul didn’t go as per the plan.

Oh no, what happened in Istanbul?

' src=

Pretty shocked not to see Greece on this list …it should be there

Totally agree – There are sooooo many other cool places too. I need to collate a top 100 ;p

' src=

Is New Zealand on anyone’s solo traveler list?!

Well it sure is on mine 🙂

Theme Park Safety Tips: How to Stay Safe While Having Fun

I f you’re planning a trip to a theme park, safety should be a top priority. While theme parks are generally safe, accidents can still happen. Taking a few precautions can help ensure that everyone has a fun and safe experience.

One of the most important things you can do to stay safe at a theme park is to follow the rules and guidelines. This includes things like staying seated on rides, keeping your hands and feet inside the ride at all times, and securing loose articles like phones and hats. It’s also important to pay attention to any safety instructions provided by ride operators.

Another key safety tip is to stay hydrated and take breaks as needed. Theme parks can be hot and crowded, which can lead to dehydration and exhaustion. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning when you need to. This can help prevent heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses.

Understanding Theme Park Safety

When it comes to theme park safety, it’s crucial to understand the importance of safety measures and regulations put in place to ensure the well-being of park guests. In this section, we’ll discuss the importance of safety at theme parks.

Importance of Safety

Theme parks are designed to be exciting and fun , but they can also be dangerous if proper safety measures are not in place. In fact, according to a report by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there were an estimated 30,000 injuries related to amusement park rides in the United States in 2019 alone.

To prevent accidents and injuries, theme parks have implemented strict safety regulations and guidelines. These regulations cover everything from ride design and maintenance to employee training and safety procedures. For example, all rides must be regularly inspected and maintained to ensure they are safe for riders. Additionally, park employees are trained to follow safety procedures and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.

As a park guest, it’s important to follow all posted rules and guidelines, such as height requirements and age restrictions, to ensure your safety. It’s also important to pay attention to ride attendants and follow their instructions.

In summary, understanding the importance of safety at theme parks is crucial to ensure a fun and safe experience for all guests. By following posted rules and guidelines and paying attention to ride attendants, you can help prevent accidents and injuries.

Pre-Visit Preparations

Before heading to a theme park, it is important to prepare for a safe and enjoyable experience. Here are some essential pre-visit preparations to consider:

Researching the Park

It is important to research the park you plan to visit to ensure it meets your family’s needs and expectations. Consider the park’s size, attractions, and age-appropriateness for your children. Check the park’s website for information on ride restrictions and height requirements, as well as any safety policies and procedures. You can also read reviews from other visitors to get an idea of their experiences and any potential safety concerns.

Health Check and Vaccinations

Before visiting a theme park, it is important to ensure that everyone in your group is healthy and up-to-date on their vaccinations. If anyone is feeling ill or has recently been exposed to a contagious disease, it may be best to postpone your visit. Be sure to bring any necessary medications or medical equipment, such as inhalers or EpiPens, with you to the park.

Packing Essentials

To ensure a safe and comfortable visit, it is important to pack the right essentials. Here are some items to consider bringing:

  • Sunscreen and hats to protect from the sun’s harmful rays
  • Comfortable, closed-toe shoes to protect your feet on rides and in crowds
  • Lightweight, breathable clothing to stay cool in hot weather
  • A refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day
  • Snacks to keep energy levels up between meals
  • Cash or credit cards for emergencies and purchases
  • A small first aid kit with bandages, pain relievers, and other basic supplies

By taking the time to prepare for your visit to a theme park, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone in your group.

On-Site Safety Measures

When visiting a theme park, it’s important to be aware of the safety measures put in place to ensure a fun and safe experience. Here are some things to keep in mind:

Navigating the Park

Before entering the park, make sure to review the park map and familiarize yourself with the location of the first aid stations, restrooms, and emergency exits. It’s also a good idea to establish a meeting spot with your group in case you get separated.

While walking around the park, be aware of your surroundings and watch out for potential hazards such as uneven pavement or wet surfaces. Follow all posted signs and instructions from park staff, and be respectful of other guests.

Ride Safety

One of the biggest draws of a theme park is the rides, but it’s important to ride safely. Always follow the ride operator’s instructions and use all safety equipment provided, such as seat belts and harnesses.

Be mindful of height and age restrictions, and don’t try to sneak onto a ride if you don’t meet the requirements. If you have any concerns about a particular ride, speak to a ride operator or park staff member before boarding.

Food and Hygiene

Staying healthy and hydrated is crucial for a fun day at the park. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, and take breaks in the shade to avoid overheating.

When it comes to food, be mindful of any allergies or dietary restrictions and ask park staff for recommendations. Keep in mind that eating heavy or greasy foods before riding a ride can lead to nausea or discomfort.

Lastly, practice good hygiene by washing your hands frequently and using hand sanitizer when necessary. Avoid touching your face or mouth, and cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.

By following these on-site safety measures, you can ensure a fun and safe experience at the theme park.

Dealing with Emergencies

In the event of an emergency at a theme park, it is important to know what to do. Here are some tips to help you handle emergencies:

First Aid and Medical Services

If you or someone in your group needs medical attention, seek help immediately. Most theme parks have first aid stations staffed with medical professionals who can assist you. You can also ask any park employee for assistance. It is important to note that some parks charge for medical services, so be prepared to pay a fee if necessary.

Lost and Found

If you lose something while at a theme park, check with the park’s lost and found department. Most parks have a designated area where lost items are kept. If you realize you lost something after you leave the park, contact the park’s lost and found department as soon as possible. It is also a good idea to label your belongings with your name and contact information to increase the chances of getting them back.

Emergency Evacuation

In the event of an emergency evacuation, follow the instructions of park employees. They are trained to handle emergencies and will guide you to safety. If you are in a ride queue, stay in line and wait for further instructions. If you are on a ride, remain seated and follow the instructions given by the ride operator.

Remember to stay calm and follow the instructions of park employees in the event of an emergency. By being prepared and knowing what to do, you can help ensure the safety of yourself and others.

Post-Visit Safety

After a fun day at the theme park, it’s important to take some post-visit safety measures to ensure that you and your family stay safe. This section will cover two important sub-sections that will help you in this regard.

Post-Visit Health Check

It’s a good idea to conduct a post-visit health check on yourself and your family members after a day at the theme park. This will help you identify any injuries or illnesses that may have occurred during the day. Here are some things you should check for:

  • Any cuts, bruises, or scrapes
  • Any soreness or pain in your muscles or joints
  • Any signs of dehydration, such as dry mouth or dark urine
  • Any signs of sunburn, such as redness or peeling skin
  • Any signs of heat exhaustion, such as dizziness, nausea, or headache

If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s important to take action right away. For example, if you notice signs of dehydration, make sure to drink plenty of fluids and rest in a cool, shaded area. If you notice signs of heat exhaustion, seek medical attention immediately.

Reporting Safety Concerns

If you notice any safety concerns during your visit to the theme park, it’s important to report them to park staff right away. This will help prevent accidents and injuries from occurring in the future. Here are some things you should report:

  • Any broken or malfunctioning rides or attractions
  • Any hazardous conditions, such as wet or slippery surfaces
  • Any unsafe behavior by other park guests, such as running or pushing
  • Any other safety concerns you may have

Most theme parks have a guest services desk or information booth where you can report safety concerns. You can also speak to a park employee or security guard if you notice an immediate safety concern.

By following these post-visit safety measures, you can help ensure that you and your family stay safe and healthy after a fun day at the theme park.

These 3 Zodiac Signs Are Going To Have A Very Lucky Year

Expect career breaks, fun vacations, and more money.

These three zodiac signs will have a lot of luck in 2024.

When you’re on a lucky streak, good things start happening out of the blue, almost as if the universe has aligned to work in your favor. And according to astrologers, that might actually be the case.

Jupiter, in particular, is associated with good luck , opportunity, and serendipity, says Priscila Lima de Charbonierres , a professional astrologer and founder of the app Soulloop . When this planet moves into your birth chart , it’ll feel like you’re the luckiest person in the world.

The kind of luck you have will depend on which house Jupiter is in since each one activates or represents a different type of energy. “Lottery-winning luck, for example, can be seen from the 8th house, which is the area of life of both valuables that come from others, and of things that are beyond our control, like windfalls, breaks in life, and deep transformations,” she tells Bustle.

If Jupiter transits your 5th house, then your luck might be related to creativity and spontaneity. “The 5th is the house of our creative intelligence, how we express our sense of fun, play, and risk, and it represents our leaps of faith,” she says.

This lucky planetary shift will start on May 25 — and last for an entire year — when Jupiter moves from earthy Taurus to airy Gemini . “Jupiter has the spontaneous, instant energy of thunder and, as it enters a new house, it tends to announce its arrival with momentous celebratory events,” says Lima de Charbonierres.

Below, she shares the three zodiac signs who will experience the most good luck in 2024 as Jupiter makes its move.

Libra (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22)

Libra will have a lucky year full of travel.

This year will be good for Libras and Libra risings as Jupiter enters your 9th sign, which is the house of purpose, higher learning, and philosophy.

“It’s also known as an area of fortune since it represents self-knowledge and the understanding of all things that bring joy and wisdom,” says Lima de Charbonierres. With Jupiter in your chart, you might notice more luck when it comes to personal growth, career development, and opportunities to travel.

If it’s been ages since you last took a vacation, don’t be surprised if you find yourself on a sunny beach or a fun trip with friends. It’ll almost seem like the vacay falls into your lap, and you should enjoy every minute of it.

“The presence of transiting Jupiter in the 9th will also open ways to fulfill expectations that have long been pursued, as well as the accomplishment of dreams in any area of life,” she says. It’ll feel like the universe is on your side this year, and like everything is finally going your way.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21)

Scorpio will have a lucky year financially.

If you’re a Scorpio sun or Scorpio rising, there’s a good chance you’ll strike it rich in the next few months — or at least come into a little extra cash. According to Lima de Charbonierres, Jupiter is entering your 8th sign, which is associated with transformation, money, and windfalls.

“Financially, this could be a very lucky year, as the expansive influence of Jupiter can bring opportunities to benefit materially from others,” she says, so keep an eye out for unexpected tax returns, generous Venmos from your mom, etc.

“For Scorpios, Jupiter also rules their 2nd house of income, values, and prosperity, and the social flavor of the energy of Jupiter in Gemini is also infused there, expanding both networking and skillfulness regarding wealth and movable possessions,” she says.

With all this planetary activity going on, you might meet someone who sparks a new, prosperous career path.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18)

Aquarius will have a lot of luck in 2024.

If you’re an Aquarius sun or Aquarius rising, get ready for amazing things to come your way in 2024. According to Lima de Charbonierres, Jupiter is entering your 5th sign, and it’ll bring with it lots of good fortune.

This will be a lucky year for you, especially if you put yourself out there and take a few risks. Instead of failing or falling flat on your face, “Aquarius will find that what they thought was unfathomable as if by magic, becomes accessible,” she says.

The 5th house is associated with creativity, so you might have an extra bit of success when it comes to a passion project taking off or a lucky break within an artistic field of work. Think book deals, art gallery showings, or more attention on your social media that seem to come out of nowhere.

While all of your success will stem from your hard work and effort, you’ll notice that things finally start working in your favor and that good things will come your way a bit more easily.

Ten Amazing Facts About Tornadoes, Explained

To prepare you for the movie “Twisters,” we’ve compiled some jaw-dropping details about the powerful phenomenon

Multi-Vortex Tornado

Catherine Duncan

Staff Contributor

As looming thunderstorm clouds spit out baseball-sized hail and torrential rain, a narrow whirlwind of air stretches its way toward the ground, signaling the arrival of one of nature’s most violent phenomena: a tornado.

Also known as twisters, these violent cyclones can reach wind speeds of 300 miles per hour and blaze a path of destruction that can last from mere seconds to several hours . While most people flee or take shelter at the sight of these alarming conditions, others dive headfirst into them. Storm chasers, people who get dangerously close to extreme weather events, sometimes for scientific research, jump at the chance to pursue the ever-unpredictable tornado.

The 1996 disaster classic Twister follows a group of these daring storm chasers, a university professor and her team of students who rush toward an outbreak of severe twisters sweeping Oklahoma. Their goal: deploy a revolutionary weather alert device, aptly named “Dorothy,” within the heart of multiple tornado systems to track and possibly tame the forces of nature. After a series of disastrous attempts to deploy their invention within multiple cyclones, a final, massive tornado rips through the area. In the nick of time, the team successfully sets up their device in the twister’s center and collects crucial data.

The highly awaited sequel Twisters sees the continuation of this research nearly two decades later, with a new generation of storm chasers and technology. The story’s hesitant protagonist Kate Cooper, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones, joins forces with adrenaline junkie Tyler Owens, played by Glen Powell, as twin twisters ravage the plains of central Oklahoma. The pair races against a rival team and devastating weather conditions to conduct groundbreaking analysis. Though the film is fictionalized, its overarching circumstances—the treacherous nature of twisters and the difficulty of predicting their arrival—ring true.

In anticipation of the July 19 release of Twisters , we contacted three scientists to unravel some of the secrets wrapped within these catastrophic cyclones. Here are a few of the coolest finds we uncovered.

Supercell thunderstorms are responsible for creating tornadoes

Supercell Thunderstorm

Tornadoes are born within supercell thunderstorms , an anvil-shaped cloud with a rotating updraft called a mesocyclone. As an extremely rare weather event, only one in thousands of storms yields a supercell thunderstorm. One in five or six supercells , though, produces a tornado.

“To get a thunderstorm, we have to have an unstable atmosphere, and generally, for a tornado, we need the thunderstorms to rotate,” says William Gallus, a meteorologist at Iowa State University. “That happens if we have wind shear, which means that the wind speed and wind directions are changing as you go up.”

Warm air rises, cold air falls, rough winds whip within the storm system, and an updraft occurs. If this rotating updraft descends toward the ground, lowering itself below the storm, a tornado can emerge from the chaos.

The tornado forms as the mesocyclone accelerates from the bottom up—and the feature intensifies its rotation, in a way similar to an ice skater who pulls her arms into her body to spin faster, says Jana Houser , a supercell thunderstorm and tornado radar analysis expert at Ohio State University.

The strongest winds of the tornado are closest the ground

Tornado in Nebraska

In the atmosphere, the winds get stronger the higher up you go. Tornadoes reverse these conditions, with their strongest winds appearing at the lowest points. This powerful rotation starts at the ground and then floats its way upward to converge into the visible funnel cloud.

“This process happens very quickly,” says Houser, who, alongside her team and National Geographic cameras, captured the very tornadoes set to appear as background footage in the upcoming film Twisters . “In under a minute, you can go from a weak rotation to, all of a sudden, a full tornado.”

According to Gallus, computer models of tornadoes have shown that the strongest winds could lie just 15 feet above the ground—their most brutal region lining up with the height of homes and buildings.

“That’s pretty unfortunate for all of us who live on Earth, because that means that in a tornado, unlike any other weather system, the very worst winds are impacting buildings, people and trees down near the ground,” says Gallus.

Tornadoes can form anywhere, anytime

Tornado Alley Map

Most tornadoes are formed in the Great Plains of the United States, in an area deemed “Tornado Alley.” Flat terrain combined with unstable conditions—warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico collides with dry winds drifting in from the Rocky Mountains—provides the ideal breeding ground for twisters to spawn. But tornadoes can happen almost anywhere. They have been reported in all 50 states and all continents except Antarctica, and they’ve struck major urban areas , such as Dallas, Miami and Minneapolis.

But cyclones don’t follow any sort of pattern or path, contrary to popular misconceptions. “It doesn’t matter if you’re in a downtown part of the city, in a hilly area or even a mountainous area,” says Houser. She adds that some terrain may reduce or increase the probability of tornadoes, but complete protection from the twisters can’t be guaranteed.

Similarly, while peak tornado season ranges from May to July depending on location, tornadoes can hit at any month and any time, both day and night.

Tornadoes have uniquely powerful upward motion

safe trip have fun

In most weather phenomena, the most aggressive winds blow horizontally, directing their potency outward toward the north, south, east and west, rather than upward and downward. Tornadoes defy these expectations. Things resting in the tornado’s path—the roofs of homes, cars, animals—can be suddenly whisked straight up and into the whirl of debris, victim to the sheer power of the tornado’s upward winds. According to Gallus, the strength of a tornado’s upward motion is comparable to the speed at which it moves along terrain, with 100- or 200-mile-an-hour winds shooting up toward the sky.

“That’s why the damage that a tornado does to buildings is very different than if you have the exact same mile-per-hour wind from just a thunderstorm,” says Gallus. “It’s also why you hear these stories of people or things getting picked up and seeming to levitate or fly up into the air—it’s because the tornado has such strong upward motion.”

The air pressure inside a tornado can cause just as much damage as the wind itself

Tornado Rubble

When visiting the site of a Missouri hospital ravaged by a tornado, Gallus recalls, a nurse he spoke with had to tilt her head a certain direction to hear. Due to the intense air pressure change caused by the tornado, her eardrum ruptured. The air pressure in the middle of a tornado can drop suddenly and strongly, as if you were riding on a plane flying up into the air extremely fast. Many people near tornadoes have reported their ears “popping” during the phenomenon. “That change in pressure is almost like nature’s way of giving you a very last warning by having your head experience this strange rapid adjustment and popping going on in your head,” says Gallus.

The change in air pressure can also create an additional force on buildings that, along with the strong winds, can intensify and quicken their destruction.

Terrain can change a tornado’s behavior

Tornado Over Great Plains

Researchers have a difficult time predicting when a tornado will form—and where it will go. Changing winds and differing terrain can make it hard for meteorologists chart the exact path of a twister.

“Tornadoes are incredibly susceptible to very small nuances in the land cover, in the environment, in the storm itself, and it’s very difficult, I would say impossible, to account for every single factor that could possibly go into changing what a tornado is doing,” says Houser. “They defy generalization.”

While predicating a storm is hard, meteorologists say that some features of terrain may enhance the conditions needed for a twister to form. For example, sprawling urban areas can affect thunderstorms, which, in turn, can affect tornadoes. Since cities have more precipitation on their downwind side because of the way water systems interact with urban structures, they produce more rain and more hail, and can be warmer, helping set up an environment that’s more likely for a tornado to form.

“Sometimes urban areas are warmer than rural areas due to the urban heat island. What happens if a tornado goes over a warmer city?” says Jason Naylor, an atmospheric scientist at the University of Louisville. “It looks like the urban heat island could potentially enhance the low-level updrafts in the storm and may help instigate tornadoes in a theoretical way.”

Tornadoes usually rotate counterclockwise, but they can switch directions

Rope Tornado

In the Northern Hemisphere, about 98 percent of tornadoes spin counterclockwise , which meteorologists label as cyclonical. However, a clockwise-swirling tornado is not out of the question—just much less common.

The counterclockwise motion of most tornadoes has long been attributed to the Coriolis effect, the force caused by the Earth’s rotation. But, according to Houser, this is merely a myth. Tornadoes exist on “too small a space scale and time scale for the Coriolis force to affect it,” she says. Rather, the counterclockwise motion results from how vertical winds change in speed and height within the storm.

Meteorologists call clockwise tornadoes anti-cyclonic. “You get an anti-cyclonic tornado when you have a very strong surge of air within the storm,” says Houser.

Storms can produce more than one tornado at a time

Two Tornadoes

Twisters sees two groups of storm chasers unite as two different tornadoes converge over a small town in central Ohio. This event isn’t just movie magic: The same storm system can really eject multiple tornadoes at once. As winds change, the storm itself can begin to form a new tornado in a slightly different location from the original tornado—with the fledgling rotating updraft gaining power as the other twister slowly dies down. Or, if the original tornado is particularly violent , the level of agitation can churn out smaller whirlwinds that extend toward the ground.

And Houser says that other freak circumstances, such as extremely strong rotation along the edges of a storm, can also produce multiple tornadoes. A clockwise and counterclockwise tornado can even appear in the same storm system.

Tornadoes themselves can’t be forecast—only the conditions that produce them can

Radar of Thunderstorms

The 1996 film Twister and its 2024 companion Twisters center around the same key issue: the frustrating impossibility of forecasting tornadoes. “We don’t even really try to forecast exactly when and where a tornado would hit, because we simply cannot do that ahead of time,” says Gallus.

Warnings for tornadoes are only issued when a twister is already forming and has been sighted—or indicated by weather radar—and the alerts cover an area that may be impacted.

Scientists are able to predict, however, the conditions favorable for supporting thunderstorms that spin and would be more likely to produce tornadoes. Up to a couple of hours ahead of time, when increased weather severity is detected, local television and radio news stations issue a tornado watch.

But a tornado’s intensity can’t be determined until after its wake. Scientists determine a tornado’s level of destruction by using the Enhanced Fujita Scale . The scale assesses the damage a tornado does to trees, buildings and homes. Scientists then use that information to calculate its probable wind speed. The rating system ranges from F0, the weakest cyclone, to F5, a vicious, deadly tornado, which a character in Twister deems the “finger of God.”

Climate change is affecting tornadoes

safe trip have fun

Tornado Alley is moving eastward . In the past decade, twisters have been inching their way into the Midwest and hitting states such as Missouri in record-breaking severity . Meteorologists attribute this shift to climate change.

“Now, with climate change, places that were normally too cold in the winter are finding themselves with days warm enough that you’re starting to see tornadoes at times of year, parts of the country, where they didn’t used to happen,” says Gallus.

This is caused by climate change’s impact on weather. Gallus says that climate change is making conditions warmer and more humid near the ground, which is increasing the level of instability that leads to stronger, tornado-producing storms.

According to Gallus, we may see more days that meteorologists call tornado outbreak days, where five to ten tornadoes crop up. But climate change could also decrease the frequency of days where one or two tornadoes crop up. Essentially, the number of tornadoes could be concentrated on fewer days.

“We can’t say that tornadoes are going to become stronger. We can’t say that we’re going to have less,” says Gallus. “But what we do know is, because of how the temperature is changing, we are going to start finding them in weird times of the year and places where it always used to be too cold to have a tornado.”

Great app but one small but essential thing

I just got this app and I already enjoy it! Though when it says I get free 20 generations, I was hoping I would get a few free generations a day (like 3-5 or something). I was a little bummed out when i see that it’s not the case. So as a suggestion, i would like there be a few free generations a day kind of feature. I’m sure folks would love that. Other than that, I really enjoy this app.

Does Not Work with High Load of Generations

The Niji journey app make my phone hotter than when I’m playing a graphic intensive game like genshin or tower of fantasy. When I begin to do more than 4 generations I only do 3 at a time, my phone gets hot the app basically stops responding. It makes it impossible to look up a previous photo to make generation of it. When you got to your profile it takes 3+ mins to load your list and then once you are there it won’t let you select any of them. The app has more functionality than discord and more options but it’s almost unusable after 10 mins or one visit to your profile page. Please fix this for those who generate high numbers of photos.

Developer Response ,

Hi, Thank you for your feedback. We have been made aware of this issue, and have released some updates to address this. We are also constantly working towards making the app better, and if you are able to help give us more specific information. We can take a closer, and better look.

Pretty good

Mainly, there are no issues that have really messed with the app or the experience. The app runs smoothly, you can see the image progress, you can choose prompts, and add reference photos which is all amazing. HOWEVER, a big issue I run into is when a ‘Job failed to run’ while using a free trial. It takes one of your free generations without even showing a result. Or if you cancel a generation, you don't get your little trial generation back. The app is good, I’m just not sure if these are bugs or something :)

Airlines must cough up cancellation cash and can no longer hide fees under new federal rule

A federal rule announced Wednesday will require airlines to quickly give cash refunds — without lengthy arguments — to passengers whose flights have been canceled or seriously delayed, the Biden administration said.

“Passengers deserve to get their money back when an airline owes them — without headaches or haggling,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement.

The rule from the Transportation Department says passengers who decline other reimbursement like travel credits are to get cash refunds.

Image: Salt Lake City travellers

It applies when a flight is canceled or has a “significant change,” the administration said.A “significant change” includes when departure or arrival times are three or more hours different from the scheduled times for domestic flights or six hours for international flights, and when the airport is changed or connections are added, it said.

Passengers are also to get refunds when their baggage is 12 hours late in delivery for domestic flights.

The new rule comes after promises to hold airlines accountable after major disruptions that made travel hell for passengers, including the 2022 Southwest Airlines meltdown , which resulted in almost 17,000 significantly delayed or canceled flights and a missing baggage nightmare.

The Transportation Department said that the new rule means refunds are automatic and that "airlines must automatically issue refunds without passengers having to explicitly request them or jump through hoops."

Also announced Wednesday was a rule requiring airlines to more clearly disclose so-called junk fees upfront, such as surprise baggage or other fees, the department said.

It said that rule is expected to save fliers around $500 million a year.

The surprise fees are used so tickets look cheaper than they really are, and then fliers get the unwelcome surprise of fees on checked bags, carry-on bags or reservation changes — or even discounts that are advertised but apply to only part of the ticket price, officials said.

Airlines will also have to tell fliers clearly that their seats are guaranteed and that they don't have to pay extra to ensure they have seats for flights, according to the Transportation Department.

Airlines for America, an industry trade group, said that its member airlines “offer transparency and vast choice to consumers from first search to touchdown” and that they do offer cash refunds.

The 11 largest U.S. airlines returned $10.9 billion in cash refunds last year, an increase over $7.5 billion in 2019 but slightly down from $11.2 billion in 2022, the group said.

“U.S. airlines are providing more options and better services while ticket prices, including ancillary revenues, are at historic lows,” Airlines for America said.

Left out of the federal changes announced Wednesday are those involving "family seating fees," but the Transportation Department said in a statement that "DOT is planning to propose a separate rule that bans airlines from charging these junk fees."

Travelers have complained to the Transportation Department that children weren’t seated next to accompanying adults, including in some cases young children, department officials said last year.

Fees on bags specifically have made up an increasing amount of airline revenues, the Transportation Department said Wednesday in announcing the new rules.

A Transportation Department analysis found that airline revenue from baggage fees increased 30% from 2018 to 2022, while operating revenue — which is from the flights themselves — increased by only half that amount, the department said.
