Saudi tourism opens first SE Asia office in Malaysia

saudi tourism authority malaysia address

The Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) has opened a commercial office in Malaysia covering the South-east Asia region as part of its strategy to engage the travel trade to raise awareness of the destination in key source markets in the region.

The Malaysia office will be responsible for trade and consumer marketing activities, expanding the reach and relevance of Saudi’s tourism offer and working with tour operators, travel agents and other industry stakeholders to build awareness and drive conversion in line with STA’s strategy and mission.

STA’s new office is being set up with the support of aviation and destination marketing representative company, AVIAREPS Malaysia, as its in-market representative covering the South-east Asia region.

“We are confident that Saudi’s diverse offering will be appealing to all demographics from the region,” said Shazlin Ahmad, country manager for STA in Southeast Asia. “We have already begun outreach into the South-east Asia’s tourism trade ecosystem and the response has been very positive. We are actively seeking opportunities to co-invest with partners who are keen to add Saudi as an exciting new destination in their portfolio.”

Since opening its borders to international tourism in September 2019, Saudi rapidly established itself as the fastest growing tourism destination in the world, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council.

Despite the global shutdown of leisure tourism in the wake of the pandemic, STA continued to invest to prepare the destination for a return to normalcy. An international brand awareness campaign launched at the beginning of 2021 extends across 26 countries and 13 languages, with significant investment in outdoor, broadcast and digital advertising.

Saudi Arabia reopened to vaccinated international visitors at the beginning of August.

To support the tourism trade ecosystem, STA is introducing Saudi Expert, a comprehensive digital platform providing partner companies such as DMCs, tour operators and other stakeholders with data, insights, destination information and creative assets in real-time to help build their businesses.

STA now has representative offices in eleven markets serving 21 countries, with an eventual goal of having 15 offices around the world.

Saudi Tourism Authority enhances commitment to Malaysia

' src=

Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) unveiled a series of initiatives during its trade roadshow held at the Westin Kuala Lumpur on the 4 th of March with 18 Saudi stakeholders including DMCs, hotels, transportation partners and travel agents. This strategic move aims to unlock the leisure segment, reinforce Saudi’s commitment to Malaysian travellers and open Saudi’s doors to the world.

This marks a significant milestone in Saudi’s commitment to welcoming global visitors, aligning with Saudi’s Vision 2030, which envisions welcoming 150 million annual visits by the end of the decade. Notably, Saudi has established itself as the fastest large growing destination by UNWTO as international arrivals increased by 156% compared to 2019.

It has become easier than ever to visit Saudi Arabia as Malaysia is among the 63 countries eligible for e-Visa program. Malaysian passport holders having UK, Schengen or US visit visas are also eligible for e-visa and visa on arrival. In addition, the recently launched 96-hour Stopover Visa grants visitors travelling with SAUDI and Flynas the opportunity to spend up to 96 hours in Saudi continuing their onward journeys, making Saudi the perfect stopover destination for Malaysian travellers.

Moreover, Saudi’s aviation sector serves as a key player and stands as a gateway to a rich cultural tapestry. In the past year alone, the airline capacity has increased to over 700,000 seats across three main carriers – Air Asia X, Malaysia Airlines, and SAUDIA with plans to further increase frequency to cater to the growing demand.

During the roadshow, Saudi Tourism Authority announced the unveiling of enhanced Umrah+ packages tailored specifically for Malaysian pilgrims. Accessible through the Nusuk platform, these packages simplify e-visa application processes and present curated experiences, inviting Malaysians to explore Saudi’s rich culture, historical treasures, diverse landscape, and exclusive events and festivals.

Saudi offers a diverse tourism experience, catering to every Malaysian traveller’s preference, be it in culture, heritage, or nature including:

  • Cultural exploration and historical wonders: Saudi stands as a treasure trove for exploration, boasting seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites and over 10,000 archaeological sites. Historical places like Historic Jeddah, At Turaif in Diriyah (birthplace of Saudi), and Al Hijr (Madain Salih) at AlUla offer a captivating journey through the country’s rich heritage.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) recently launched Nusuk (nusuk.sa), the new umrah-integrated digital

platform, which welcomes pilgrims globally to experience umrah.

Nusuk, an initiative launched by the STA in collaboration with Vision 2030

Pilgrim Experience Program was announced in the presence of Saudi Arabia's minister of hajj and umrah Dr Tawfiq Fawzan Al-Rabiah.

Nusuk will expand the range of choices, enhance the overall experience for Muslims visiting Saudi Arabia, and enable more straightforward arrival procedures for visitors to perform umrah.

"As we open our doors to welcome back the largest group of pilgrims from around the world to Saudi Arabia post-pandemic, we look forward to providing an enriching and seamless booking experience with expanded travel options.

"This will take them on a spiritual journey across different Islamic attractions and offerings between Makkah and Madinah to experience this life-changing moment and discover Saudi Arabia's rich cultural and heritage offerings," Dr Tawfiq said in a statement.

STA chief executive officer and member of the board Fahd Hamidaddin said the agency is committed to making Saudi Arabia more accessible to all visitors.

"For pilgrims, we have launched the digital platform Nusuk designed for pilgrims and visitors to plan their spiritual journey seamlessly.

"Pilgrims from Malaysia can apply for an e-visa on the Nusuk platform and book special packages to Makkah, Madinah and beyond. We are also working with our partners to encourage pilgrims to explore our beautiful country and experience its many facets through our Umrah+ programs," said Fahd, who is also the managing director of Nusuk.

Malaysia is already a key tourism source market for Saudi Arabia.

The country has deepened relations with partners and is committed to investing and working closely with local players to ensure experiences are relevant and appealing to the Malaysian market.

Last year, Saudi Arabia welcomed 312,000 Malaysian visitors and this year the aim is to double visitor numbers.

To deliver on its ambitious goals, STA announced two key initiatives at the Malaysian roadshow, namely enhanced Umrah+ packages and the Stopover Visa.

The enhanced Umrah+ packages are designed to enable travellers to discover Saudi Arabia as a great holiday destination with rich cultural and historical offerings, pristine nature and diverse landscapes.

Saudi Arabia is home to 6 UNESCO World Heritage sites and over 10,000 archaeological sites that are waiting to be explored, including Al Balad in Jeddah and Turaif in Diriyah - the birthplace of Saudi Arabia together with the mountains of Aseer and little towns offering heritage and cultural experiences – allowing visitors to experience the true home of Arabia.

The recently announced Stopover Visa is open to all leisure, business and religious travellers flying on SAUDIA and flynas.

Travellers can experience a stopover in Saudi Arabia for up to 96 hours and enjoy a complimentary one-night hotel stay with Saudia.

This makes Saudi Arabia a perfect destination for Malaysians travelling to Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Saudi has invested in several giga-projects such as Qiddiya, Neom, and the recently announced new Murabba in Riyadh called 'The Mukaab', which will be the world's largest modern downtown.

The Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) revealed a suite of innovative measures at its trade event hosted at The Westin Kuala Lumpur on March 4th, featuring participation from 18 Saudi stakeholders including destination management companies, hotels, transport partners, and travel agents. This strategic initiative aims to tap into the leisure travel sector, reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s dedication to Malaysian tourists while simultaneously extending its hospitality to the global audience.

The 2024 Malaysian Trade Roadshow organized by the Saudi Tourism Authority signifies a significant step forward in Saudi Arabia’s commitment to embracing international visitors, in line with the ambitious goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030, which aspires to welcome 150 million annual visitors by the decade’s end. Noteworthy is Saudi Arabia’s rapid ascent as a prominent tourist destination recognized by UNWTO, with international arrivals surging by 156% compared to figures from 2019.

Accessing Saudi Arabia has never been more convenient, particularly for Malaysians, as the country is among the 63 nations eligible for the e-Visa program. Furthermore, Malaysian passport holders with UK, Schengen, or US visit visas can avail themselves of e-visas or visas on arrival. Additionally, the newly introduced 96-hour Stopover Visa facilitates short visits for travelers flying with SAUDI and Flynas, positioning Saudi Arabia as an ideal stopover destination for Malaysian travelers continuing their journeys.

Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector plays a pivotal role, serving as a gateway to its diverse cultural landscape. Over the past year, airline capacity has surged to over 700,000 seats across three major carriers – Air Asia X, Malaysia Airlines, and SAUDIA, with plans for further frequency enhancements to accommodate escalating demand.

At the trade event, the Saudi Tourism Authority unveiled enhanced Umrah+ packages tailored exclusively for Malaysian pilgrims. Accessible via the Nusuk platform, these packages streamline e-visa applications and offer curated experiences, beckoning Malaysians to explore Saudi Arabia’s rich cultural heritage, historical marvels, varied landscapes, and exclusive events and festivals.

Saudi Arabia offers a rich tapestry of tourism experiences catering to the diverse preferences of Malaysian travelers, spanning culture, heritage, and nature:

Cultural and Historical Marvels: Saudi Arabia boasts an abundance of historical treasures, including seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites and over 10,000 archaeological sites. Notable landmarks such as Historic Jeddah, At Turaif in Diriyah (the birthplace of Saudi Arabia), and Al Hijr (Madain Salih) in AlUla beckon visitors on a captivating journey through the nation’s illustrious heritage.

Varied Offerings: Emerging as a premier global leisure destination, Saudi Arabia showcases iconic locations like VIA Riyadh and Bujairi Terrace, adding to its allure and offering travelers a harmonious blend of cultural immersion and modern experiences.

Exclusive Events and Festivals: Travelers can partake in a myriad of events and festivals, including the vibrant Riyadh Season, the enchanting AlUla Skies Festival, and the magical Winter at Tantora. These festivities combine cultural celebrations with entertainment, promising unforgettable experiences for all who attend.

Embark on an immersive journey and uncover the essence of Arabia at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur (3rd floor, outdoors), happening from March 5th to 10th.

MALAYSIA’S TOURISM ROADSHOW IS COMING TO SAUDI ARABIA

saudi tourism authority malaysia address

PUTRAJAYA, 21 May 2022 – Tourism Malaysia is organising a series of roadshows in the Middle East to woo international tourists to Malaysia in conjunction with the country’s border reopening on 1 April 2022. This time around, the roadshow will kick off from 21 to 29 May 2022 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – the cities of Damman, Riyadh, and Jeddah.

Headed by Dato’ Seri Ramlan Ibrahim, Chairman of Tourism Malaysia, the delegation consists of travel agents, hoteliers, product owners, state tourism bodies, and medical tourism industry players. The mission is to attract more international tourists, newcomers and regulars alike, to further boost the economy for a strong rebound in the tourism industry.

Saudi Arabia’s market contributes the highest per capita expenditure in terms of tourist spending reaching RM11,660 (USD 2,673) and the average length of stay (10.8 nights) before the COVID-19 pandemic.

This roadshow provides the platform for networking with travel trade partners and the opportunity to develop new sales partnerships besides providing product updates on Malaysia, including the brand new Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park, the world’s second tallest skyscraper Merdeka 118, and the Sunway Resort in Kuala Lumpur that just reopened after a once-in-a-generation transformation.

Dato’ Seri Ramlan said: “We are thrilled to welcome more Arab tourists to Malaysia. Malaysia’s relationship with Saudi Arabia has long been amicable. Hence, this roadshow aims to promote Malaysia as a top-of-mind tourist destination for the West Asian market.

“Not only Saudi Arabia and Malaysia are well connected with direct flights via Saudia and Malaysia Airlines, but Malaysia is also a safe and family-friendly holiday destination plus a shopping heaven and halal food paradise.”

Starting 1 May 2022, fully-vaccinated inbound travellers are no longer required to undergo pre-departure and on-arrival COVID-19 tests, including children aged 12 and below as well as for those who have been infected with COVID-19 within six to 60 days before departure to Malaysia. Travel insurance is also not a prerequisite for foreigners entering the country.

The wearing of masks outdoors is optional but still mandatory indoors, including in shopping malls, offices, public transportation and e-hailing rides.
