Canadian Taylor Swift Fans Finally Get to Experience the 'Eras Tour'

Taylor isn't coming for another year, but her concert film is doing big numbers across canada — especially in quebec, where everyone feels like they're front row..

Taylor Swift

She’s got good karma. For the second weekend in a row, Taylor Swift’s concert film The Eras Tour has dominated the domestic box office. The film broke records upon release, with the highest opening ever for a concert film, not adjusted for inflation, surpassing Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never . To date, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has grossed around $130 million in North America, and that’s without screening from Mondays through Wednesdays.

For Canadian fans, this is their first chance to get a glimpse of the three-hour behemoth tour, which spans 17 years and 10 albums of her career. While the live tour began in March this year, it won’t arrive in Canada until November of 2024, where Swift is closing out the phenomenon with six performances at Toronto’s Rogers Centre. But it's not coming to Quebec (or anywhere else in Canada as of yet) at all, which makes it a unique experience for fans there. In its first weekend, it brought in $92 million in North America, and $650,000 in Quebec alone .

The film has become a major communal experience everywhere, with clips of fans dancing in the aisles and belting along with the film showing up all over social media. But there seems to be a special energy in Canada, where fans have been making the most of Swift’s silver screen outing.

@alinecastro and that is how it went #taylorswift #theerastourmovie #theerastourcanada #montreal #montrealswifties

"It was a very surreal experience," says Saskia, a 29-year-old fan who attended a Montreal screening on Sunday. "I've never been to a screening where it was almost assumed that the audience would be singing, interjecting and standing up in the aisles to dance."

This celebratory atmosphere bridges the space between movie and live show. Talking to Billboard Canada , Saskia also noticed that everyone already seemed to know the order of the songs and the costumes accompanying each section. Eras Tour gives Swifties who have been following the tour from afar on TikTok the chance to experience it together, trading friendship bracelets and dressing up like their favourite Swift eras.

“Taylor never stops, and she does it all herself,” one fan told TVA in French. Another said that Swift has been her idol since she was 11 years old. Parents and kids have also been attending the screenings together, bonding over their shared love of the star.

Sandra, 38, took her daughter Lorelai to the Montreal screening instead of trying for hard-to-get Toronto tickets in 2024, TVA reports. “The tickets are very expensive,” Sandra explains.

Saskia agrees. "Knowing that going to the Eras Tour is out of reach financially and logistically for me and many other fans, this was a special chance to feel immersed in this spectacular performance."

Instead of working with a Hollywood distributor, Swift inked a deal directly with AMC theatres to screen the movie. The film is showing in nearly 4000 North American theatres, including Cineplex theatres in Canada as part of a sub-distribution partnership. It features footage from Swift’s Los Angeles shows at SoFi Stadium. Chock-full of chart toppers and outfit changes, the Eras Tour movie is a testament to Swift’s global superstardom and the many iterations of her artistry.

The movie begins with Swift in full popstar mode, belting “Cruel Summer” — which just went to No. 1 on the Hot 100, four years after its initial release. Over its two hour and forty five minute runtime, Swift takes the crowd back to high school with Fearless ’s “You Belong With Me”; dons a Disney princess dress for Speak Now ’ s “Enchanted”; enacts a domestic drama around Evermore ’s “Tolerate It”; strips things back for a rousing acoustic version of Midnights ’ “You’re On Your Own Kid”; and performs the full ten minute version of “All Too Well” in a dazzling floor-length red coat. Across each era, Swift’s core strength as a storyteller comes through.

In between planning and performing one of the best-selling tours of all time, Swift has also been re-recording her discography. The next installment, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), is set to arrive on Oct. 27.

Another major 2023 tour will also get the cinematic treatment this December: Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour will premiere as Renaissance: A Film by Beyon c é . If it's at all like Eras Tour , Montreal fans are probably already picking out their outfits.

Developed with ADVANCE, the addition marks the first time in its 45-year history that the awards program will officially recognize the genres, and marks a major win for Francophone R&B, soul and gospel artists.

Quebec's ADISQ awards are making a rare major change this year: adding a new prize for Best R&B/Soul album.

The provincial Association of the Record, Show and Video Industry (ADISQ) awards its coveted Félix trophies every year at a series of galas. ADISQ already presents 18 album of the year awards, in categories such as Rock, Folk, Country, Rap, and World Music. This year, the association will present a new award for R&B/Soul album of the year.

The addition of the award is a major win for R&B, soul, and gospel artists in Quebec, Black-led genres that have gone under-recognized in ADISQ's 45-year awards history.

The R&B/Soul award was promoted by ADVANCE, Canada's Black Music Business Collective, and Maison Kanda, a soul and R&B label. ADVANCE's Francophone Board Chair, Widney Bonfils — also Director of A&R at Universal Music Canada — has worked with ADISQ for two years on developing the category. The proposal for the category was also supported by nine other labels.

"This new category encourages soul/R&B and gospel artists to dream in French," said singer-songwriter Corneille in French, one of the founders of Maison Kanda. "I truly believe this is the beginning of something major, and I thank the enormous work of ADVANCE, which made this possible."

This might be ADISQ's first time awarding the genres, but Quebec's R&B talent runs deep, with rising artists like Papi Jay and Naïma Frank currently making names for themselves. To be eligible for the award, an album has to have 70% French lyrics and a runtime of at least 20 minutes or six songs.

If you were among the thousands of disappointed Taylor Swift fans across Canada that didn’t get a presale code to one of her highly anticipated Eras Tour shows in Toronto — fear not — there’s another way to see Swift perform her career-spanning, 44-song setlist.

taylor swift eras tour film quebec

Swift announced on social media Thursday that she is bringing her Eras Tour to the silver screen with a concert film running in theatres across North America.

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” Swift wrote.

Over 150 Cineplex locations in Canada will screen the film on Thursday, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, according to a press release , meaning that Swift fans across the country can enjoy the Eras Tour much closer to home — and without having to shell out for expensive tickets and travel arrangements.

The first screenings will start on Oct 13 and the run time for the movie clocks in at two hours and 45 minutes.

Tickets for the concert film cost a (comparatively) affordable $19.89 for adults — a nod to her album 1989, no doubt — and $13.13 for children under 13 and seniors over 65. They are available for purchase now on the Cineplex.com website .

Swift is encouraging people who see the film to dress up in Eras Tour attire and friendship bracelets, and to sing and dance their hearts out during the show.

The announcement of the concert film on Swift’s Instagram page has already been liked over three million times in a matter of hours since she posted it.

Cineplex calls the movie a “once-in-a-lifetime concert film experience” and the company says it’s “thrilled to be a part of this cultural phenomenon.”

“We’ve seen tremendous response today as the news broke but our teams and systems are ready. We can’t wait to welcome Swifties to our theatres to be part of this breathtaking, cinematic experience,” said Cineplex’s vice-president of communications, Michelle Saba.

Swifties in the U.S., where the film will also screen in AMC theatres, are having a much harder time securing tickets, with many on social media complaining about wait times and queues. AMC released a statement addressing the snafu.

“In anticipation of this announcement,” the company said, “AMC has upgraded its website and ticketing engines to handle more than five times the largest influx of ticket-buying traffic the company has ever experienced before.

But AMC is also aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale. Guests wanting to be the first to buy their tickets online may experience delays, longer-than-usual ticket-purchase waiting-room times and possible outages. AMC is committed to ensuring any delays or outages are addressed as quickly as possible.”

The Eras Tour film was directed by Sam Wrench, an Emmy-award-winning director who has documented live shows performed by Billie Eilish, BTS and Lizzo.

The movie will be available for viewing in some of Cineplex’s speciality theatres, including VIP Cinemas, IMAX and Ultra AVX.

Taylor Swift is one of the biggest names in the music industry. Her 2022 album Midnights marked the tenth entry into her impressive discography and kickstarted the beginning of her Eras tour in March 2023. While on tour across the United States and Mexico, the 12-time Grammy winner pleasantly surprised fans on August 31 with an announcement of the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert movie. Tickets went on sale (and immediately sold out) that same day.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie is clearly the hottest event of this fall season. Here is everything you need to know about it movie before heading to the theater.

What to know about Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (concert movie)

The Eras tour takes audiences on a captivating musical journey spanning all of Taylor Swift’s unique "eras", paying homage to each of her albums. These albums are 2006's Taylor Swift, Fearless in 2008, 2010's Speak Now, Red in 2012, 1989 in 2014, 2017's Reputation, Lover in 2019, 2020's Folkmore and Evermore, and Midnights in 2022. You can expect to witness her perform some of the most celebrated songs within her catalogue including "Love Story", "Blank Space", and "Anti-Hero."

The movie offers audiences the opportunity to experience the wildly anticipated concert they might not have had the chance to see in person. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie filmed the initial trio of performances at SoFi Stadium in early August. As shown in the concert movie, this huge Los Angeles venue drew an astounding crowd of nearly half a million fans.

As the official concert movie for her Eras Tour, Taylor Swift wants fans to have an authentic concert experience when watching the movie in theaters. When she initially announced it on X, Taylor suggested  that fans should dress up in their best Eras attire, wear friendship bracelets and participate in singing and dancing, just like they would at a live show: "The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon.  Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now at http:// taylor.lnk.to/TSTheErasTourF ilm … . Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged. 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk)"

Where can I watch Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?

If you are in the united states:.

AMC theaters have entered into an exclusive agreement with Swift, allowing only their locations in the United States to screen The Eras Tour movie starting October 13. Canadian theaters will screen the movie as well.

Within minutes of theater tickets for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour being released, the AMC app crashed with fans attempting to buy advance tickets for the movie. This marks the second instance this year where Swifties caused a major website to malfunction, with the first being during the sale for the actual Eras Tour itself. AMC is currently promoting exciting additions for your cinematic experience including Eras Tour-themed popcorn buckets for $14.99+tax and drink cups for $11.99+tax. Exclusive cardigans have, unfortunately, still not been announced.

If you are outside of the United States:

On Tuesday 26th September, 2023, tickets for the official Eras tour concert movie were announced in over 100 countries around the world. Taylor Swift made the announcement on Instagram, sharing that the film will be in theaters in those countries from October 13, 2023.

"The tour isn’t the only thing we’re taking worldwide…….. 🌎 Been so excited to tell you all that The Eras Tour concert film is now officially coming to theaters WORLDWIDE on Oct 13! Tickets available now at www.TSTheErasTourFilm.com or on your local theaters website!"

Tickets were available immediately after the Instagram post went live. AMC have struck a deal with sub-distribution partners for more than 7,500 movie theatres in order to show the film in theaters around the world. Across Europe, the concert movie will be playing at Odeon theaters. Odeon also announced a special pricing for the event:

"In a nod to Taylor Swift’s 1989 album and her favourite number, 13, tickets in the UK and Ireland will be priced at £19.89 / €19.89 for adults and £13.13 / €13.13 for children."

Will The Eras Tour be on Netflix?

Despite the concert movie's cinematic release on October 13, there has been no announcement about where to stream Taylor Swift: The Era Tour online. Until further notice, the movie is available exclusively in theaters. However, given the record-breaking demand for tickets, it is very likely fans will be able to watch The Eras Tour on streaming services after its theatrical run ends.

You can choose to get notified by JustWatch when a streaming release date is announced by heading to Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour and hitting the notification bell.

How long is Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?

While an Eras Tour concert typically lasts over three hours on average, the official length of the concert movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes. This makes it much longer than previous Taylor Swift concert movies, such as Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour which is 2 hours and 5 mins.

Who is the director of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?

Grammy-nominated Sam Wrench is the director of the upcoming concert movie. He earned the coveted nomination for directing Billie Eilish Live At The O2 in 2023. Wrench is best known for his ability in capturing the electrifying essence of a live music event, having also worked on  Lizzo: Live in Concert and BTS: Permission to Dance on Stage - LA . He boasts an impressive resume filled with projects from some of the biggest names in the industry including Mary J. Blige, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.

What records did Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour break?

Taylor Swift just keeps adding to her impressive list of record-breaking achievements. The Eras Tour movie shattered the record for the most money made from advance ticket sales in a single day at AMC Theaters, raking in a whopping $26 million. This surpasses the previous record-holder, 2021's  Spider-Man: No Way Home , by $10 million. Fans achieved this record-breaking feat in just three hours, beating  Avengers: Endgame 's record for the most tickets sold within the first 24 hours.

The Eras Tour movie is expected to have an incredible opening weekend, with a projected range of $100-125 million. The top five movies for the year's opening weekends include Barbie , The Super Mario Bros. Movie , Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse , Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania . These range between between $162 million to $106 million, which means the upcoming concert movie has the potential to have one of the best opening weekends of 2023.

Furthermore, the sudden announcement of the movie's release date caused other titles to change their release dates. The Exorcist: Believer , originally slated for the same day, will now premiere a week earlier. Producer Jason Blum playfully tweeted, "Look what you made me do. The Exorcist: Believer moves to 10/6/23.”

What are the other Taylor Swift concert movies?

For those who simply cannot calm down before the release of the movie, there have been a number of projects featuring exclusive access to Swift’s concerts that are available to watch right now. These include The 1989 World Tour Live, which was released on Apple Music in 2015, and 2018’s Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour which is available to stream on Netflix. There were also DVD releases of Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless in 2010 and Speak Now World Tour – Live the following year.

Swifties alike must ultimately tolerate this Cruel wait with their Gorgeous Style they know Belongs to them. On the Bejeweled side, there are only a few weeks left before they are united by the greatest Love Story on the big screen: Taylor Swift with her Swifties. They are undeniably Ready For It.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will be released in theaters on October 13, 2023.

Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” concert film is now available to stream in its entirety on Disney+.

The extended cut of “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” clocks in at around three-and-a-half hours and includes her performance of “Cardigan” from her 2020 hit album “Folklore,” which had been cut from previously released versions of the movie.

  • Top entertainment headlines, all in one place

The Disney+ version also features bonus footage of four acoustic performances, including “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” “Maroon,” “You Are in Love” and “I Can See You.”

Swift plays two surprise songs at each concert during her acoustic set. Performances of “Our Song” from her debut self-titled album and “You’re On Your Own Kid,” a song on 2023’s “Midnights” album that is a nod to the friendship bracelets that concertgoers make and exchange at her shows, are featured in the film as two surprise songs.

Swift’s “Eras Tour” concert film first premiered in theaters in October. The film raked in about US$96 million in the United States and Canada in its opening weekend, movie theater chain AMC said at the time.

CNN previously reported that it became the highest grossing concert film domestically for an opening weekend, according to AMC.

While she’s currently on a two-month break from the international leg of her tour, Swift is gearing up to release her 11th studio album on April 19 titled “The Tortured Poets Department.”

The album, according to a tracklist she previously released, includes collaborations with Post Malone and Florence + the Machine.

Canada condemns Israeli strike on aid workers in Gaza, demands investigation

Canada joined multiple allies including the United States, Poland and Australia in demanding a full investigation Tuesday after an Israeli airstrike killed seven aid workers trying to deliver desperately needed food in the Gaza Strip. The workers, including a dual Canadian-American citizen, were in a convoy leaving a World Central Kitchen warehouse in Deir al-balah in central Gaza on Monday night. They had just delivered 100 tonnes of food shipped in via boat from Cyprus. World Central Kitchen identified the dual Canadian-U.S. citizen as 33-year-old Jacob Flickinger. The strike took place despite extensive efforts to co-ordinate the movements of World Central Kitchen workers with the Israel Defence Forces, the aid group said in a statement. The attack also killed three British nationals, an Australian, a Polish national and a Palestinian. "This is not only an attack against (World Central Kitchen), this is an attack on humanitarian organizations showing up in the most dire of situations where food is being used as a weapon of war," said the organization's CEO Erin Gore in an emailed statement. "This is unforgivable." Gore's group suspended its operations in Gaza following the attack. One image from the scene shows a white truck, the World Central Kitchen logo clearly visible among the charred remains. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said it is "absolutely unacceptable" to attack aid workers. "This is something that never should have happened, and we are heartbroken for the families and for the organization that has been putting people in harm's way to counter the extraordinarily devastating humanitarian crisis going on in Gaza right now," he said. "We obviously need full accountability and investigation in this." Trudeau said there needs to be "clarity" about how it happened and repeated a call for a ceasefire "so more aid workers are not in danger as they try to respond to the suffering on the ground in Gaza." Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged that the Israel Defence Forces carried out the "unintended strike" that killed "innocent people." He said officials are investigating and "will do everything, for this not to happen again." The U.S. Aid Workers Security Database said more than 200 aid workers have been killed in Gaza since the latest conflict escalated there in the fall. On Oct. 7, Hamas, a designated terrorist entity in Canada, launched an attack against Israel that killed 1,200 people, many of them living in agricultural communes near the Gaza border. More than 200 hostages were taken, and about 100 remain in captivity in Gaza. The Netanyahu government responded with tremendous force, pledging to destroy Hamas. More than one million Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced, and aid agencies warn the situation is dire, with access to food and medicine extremely limited. The health ministry in Gaza, which is run by Hamas, said more than 32,000 people have been killed in the territory since October. World Central Kitchen recently reported it had set up 68 kitchens across Gaza, providing millions of meals to desperate people. Founded by celebrity chef José Andrés in 2010 following the deadly earthquake in Haiti, the charity partners with local chefs and restaurants as much as possible to rapidly scale up food delivery aid following a natural disaster or amid war. It currently has operations in multiple countries dealing with armed conflicts, including Haiti and Ukraine. It also often responds quickly following hurricanes and earthquakes. In 2022, it partnered with Canadian restaurants in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador to provide meals to families affected by the post-tropical storm Fiona. In mid-March, World Central Kitchen became the first aid group to bring aid to Gaza by sea in more than 20 years, with security provided by Israel. Making it happen required building a makeshift pier from rubble trucked in from around the territory. A second sea shipment left Cyprus on Saturday. The workers delivering that aid were the ones who were hit. Just a week ago, Lalzawmi Frankcom, known as Zomi, was on the charity's X account, sharing a video from the same warehouse where she was killed Monday. Britain summoned the Israeli ambassador to explain what happened following the death of three of its citizens. Poland and Australia also demanded explanations from Israel. It was not clear if Canada had spoken directly with Israeli officials. Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly said Tuesday she was "horrified" by the airstrike. Her office said that as of late afternoon she had not yet connected with her Israeli counterpart. "We condemn these strikes and call for a full investigation," she posted on X. "Canada expects full accountability for these killings and we will convey this to the Israeli government directly." Speaking in Paris, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said his government had already made entreaties with Israel's government for a "swift, thorough and impartial investigation to understand exactly what happened." Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East said it defies belief that the airstrikes accidentally targeted aid workers. “This is far from the first time that Israel has targeted an aid convoy or killed humanitarian workers," said the group's vice-president Michael Bueckert. He called on Canada to sanction Israeli leaders. The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs in Canada also called for accountability, describing the airstrike as "deeply regrettable." "The Israeli government must carry out a thorough investigation and hold those who made the error accountable," the group said in a statement. "Humanitarian aid into Gaza is essential, as are Israel's efforts to destroy Hamas military capabilities. We express condolences to those who were killed." This report by The Canadian Press was first published April 2, 2024. — With files from The Associated PressCanada joined multiple allies including the United States, Poland and Australia in demanding a full investigation Tuesday after an Israeli airstrike killed seven aid workers trying to deliver desperately needed food in the Gaza Strip. California fast food industry divided over pay hike

STORY: Around half a million workers at California fast food chains began receiving a $20-an-hour minimum wage this week. That's up from the state’s previous $16 minimum and applies to chains with 60 or more locations nationwide. While workers say the raise helps pay the bills, business owners like Brian Hom are worried about higher operating costs. He has already increased prices between 5 and 10% in response to the new minimum. “And eventually, as time goes on... if we’re not making a profit, we would have to close down.” For seven years he and his wife have owned two Vitality Bowls superfood cafe franchises in South San Jose.Between the two locations, they have about three dozen employees which they say are mostly young adults in high school and college. California governor Gavin Newsom said one goal of the pay bump, passed last September, was to make the state’s economy more inclusive. Sixty-six year-old Hom isn’t so sure. “It’s kind of a catch 22, where people want higher wages but at the same time, the cost to run the business, it doesn’t work out... Maybe corporate stores can but most of the small stores are run by people of color, people that immigrated, women, and, you know, seniors like me, right? I’m a senior and I’m trying to run a business for my family and if it goes down then my family goes down too.” However, fast food workers like Ingrid Vilorio have a brighter outlook on the wage bump. “I think that the new minimum wage somewhat alleviates the heavy cost of living in California. That's what this new salary does– ease the cost of living a little.” Vilorio has worked at Jack in the Box for four years. In that time, she has seen her employers cut hours and increase work. And now, she says, they’re upset they have to pay their workers more. “Each employee does the work of two or three people. And the saddest thing right now that we're experiencing as employees is that instead of the employer being happy about this increase– a minimal one for the worker– instead they are angry that they have to raise their employees' salaries.” The economic bottom line of the hourly bump is not clear cut. Some studies suggest a minimum wage hike can reduce hours and hiring– like the Vitality Bowl owner Hom mentioned– while others point to better outcomes for workers. And it also remains unclear how much pressure businesses not affected by the law will feel to raise their wages to match those that are.

Simply as a technical spectacle, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is a dazzling achievement, capturing the sensation of seeing the pop goddess’ sold-out concerts in all their enormity and intimacy.

Director Sam Wrench ’s cameras are everywhere at once as Swift sings, stomps, and smiles through a nearly three-hour cross-section of her discography. They surround her as she and her dancers cover the mammoth square footage of her SoFi Stadium stage, which lights up imaginatively to correspond with each time frame. They swarm the skies to take in the entirety of the crowd, alight with their cell phones like 70,000 giddy fireflies. But they also get up close and personal for the slightest flicker of a facial expression, which is particularly effective during poignant sections like Swift’s 10-minute rendition of the rueful and rageful “All Too Well.” Wrench’s editing team seamlessly combines performances over three nights this summer in Inglewood, California, placing us firmly within the frenzy while also pulling back to marvel at the big picture.

But regardless of the era Swift’s revisiting, her singular ability to connect emotionally with both the songs and her audience is what shines through. Her showmanship is astonishing—her hustle, her joy—but there’s an abiding authenticity at the core even as we see her evolve from one album to the next right before our eyes. The awesome amazon of “Anti-Hero” (from her latest, “Midnights”) is also the plucky up-and-comer of “ Our Song ” from the early days. She’s both the delightful dork and the vengeful vixen, but she finds a way to make every person in that crowd feel like they’re her BFF and soulmate. Maintaining relatability within stratospheric superstardom has been Swift’s impressive balancing act, and that’s always on display here, no matter what song she’s singing.

And you get all the biggies, from ubiquitous earworms like “Shake It Off” and “Bad Blood” from “1989” (which I could never hear again and be totally fine, but they were probably a blast in this live setting) to playful anthems like “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and “I Knew You Were Trouble” from “ Red .” But “The Eras Tour” movie also gives us plenty of time to luxuriate in her achingly vivid songwriting during the “folklore” and “evermore” eras. The performance of “champagne problems” at a moss-covered piano—which she wrote with ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn —is an emotional highlight, as is “betty” on the acoustic guitar from within the rustic “folklore” cabin. Although she’s long been a fashion icon for women and an aspirational idol for little girls everywhere, her evocative storytelling is her deepest and most transcendent strength, and this film wisely allows us to appreciate that ability anew. (From these early pandemic-era albums, it would have been nice to hear “cardigan” and “no body, no crime” with HAIM, who joined her on stage throughout the Los Angeles run, but you can’t have everything.)

One of the coolest parts of having so many cameras at play here—and you never see a single one of them, it’s a miracle—is that it gives us the opportunity to notice the little things, like the fact that Swift’s microphones change in color and detail to match each era. We can also ooh and ahh at the painstaking detail on her exquisite costume design, including sparkly Versace bodysuits, Christian Louboutin boots and the flowy Alberta Ferretti gown she dons for “folklore.” Even if you were lucky enough and could afford tickets to attend one of these concerts, you couldn’t achieve this level of intimacy.

Every tiny bit signifies how seriously she has taken this massive endeavor, and it all pops brightly on the big screen. Taking it all in over 165 minutes may sound like a lot if you’re not a hardcore Swiftie—and truly, it is exhausting by the end—but purely as a cinematic experience, “The Eras Tour” is enormously entertaining. Pull on a couple of friendship bracelets and surrender to the phenomenon.

The Eras Tour cast: Meet Taylor Swift's dancers, singers and band members

taylor swift eras tour film quebec

Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour has been out for a week on Disney+ , and there's no doubt some dedicated fans have watched it 13+ times. The three-and-a-half-hour phenomenon is a bedazzled force that moves through 49 songs from Swift's 10 eras. The movie was shot over three nights in Los Angeles and included helicopter, drone and onstage camera angles. By now everyone knows the ringleader of The Eras Tour, but what about the cast and crew who shine alongside her?

Here's a look at Swift's six bandmates, four backup vocalists and 15 dancers featured in the film with the time stamps for when they appear on screen.

'Strike the band up, 1... 2... 3...'

The Eras Tour band is led by Mike Meadows and Max Bernstein. Meadows has been with Swift for more than 15 years, starting on her "Fearless" tour. The guitarist also sings and plays keyboards, cello, harmonica and mandolin. In a cute TikTok, his wife shared a compilation video from Nissan Stadium about how proud she is . Swift places her arm on Meadows during "Love Story" at 33:12.

Max Bernstein rocks out on the guitar, keyboards and pedal steel, which is a steel guitar with pedals and knee levers. He shared a post on Instagram with the caption , "So incredibly grateful to be a little part of the biggest and best show." He joined Swift for the "Reputation Stadium Tour" in 2018. His parents are journalists Nora Ephron and Carl Bernstein, and his brother Jacob is a reporter for The New York Times. Bernstein is to the right of Swift and her "Fearless" heart hands at 26:12.

Paul Sidoti may be the most well known band member. His distinct rocker hair is almost as big as his stage presence. Sidoti has been a vocalist and guitarist with the singer since 2007. He is approachable on the tour and has taken photos with fans in the audience. Sidoti's website also says he's available for "online guitar, bass, and piano lessons via Zoom." Swift touches Sidoti's face during "You Belong With Me" while singing "you've got a smile that can light up this whole town" at 28:15.

Amos Heller is the bassist. Like many of Swift's bandmates, the husband and father of three has been with her since 2007. Heller picked up his first electric bass at 13. His cover of Metallica's "Blackened" shows he's a master thrasher. Swift struts with Heller during "You Belong With Me" at 27:58.

Ooomph! Matthew Billingslea is the drummer crashing the cymbals, beating the toms and pedaling the bass. In 2023, he was nominated for pop drummer of the year at the Drumeo Awards. Billingslea joined Swift's band in 2013 for the Red Tour. Billingslea pops up during "Fearless" at 25:38.

Rounding out the bandmates is Karina DePiano . The classically trained pianist gets a shoutout from the singer following Swift's performance of "Champagne Problems." DePiano performs an interlude at 50:35 while Swift sets a table before singing "Tolerate It." DePiano started 2024 with a Pianote nomination for pop pianist of the year .

'We sing it proudly'

The fearless ladies who make up Swift's choir are "The Starlights."

Up first is Melanie Nyema , the section leader. The vocal virtuoso has backed many artists including Gladys Knight, Sara Bareilles, Solange Knowles, Florence + The Machine and Imagine Dragons. She's been with Swift since 2012 when she performed "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" at the VMAs. Check out her spiritual version of "Gotta Have You." Nyema is left of Swift at 30:33 when she hugs "The Starlights."

Kamilah Marshall is the vocalist dance captain. Marshall came into the fold during the Red Tour. Her song "Canyon" showcases her writing and singing in an outpouring of gratitude. The Broadway actress has credits including "Hairspray" and "Lion King." In 2021, she told the Academic Magnet High School newspaper in South Carolina, "I know I’m supposed to be doing what I do.” You can also see her in the dinner scene of " All Too Well: The Short Film ." Marshall is the "cheer captain" on the left at 28:52 during the "Fearless" era.

Jeslyn Gorman joined Swift during her Red Tour. The vocal riffer has a song, "Falling Like Snow," and has toured with stars Meghan Trainor, Jason Derulo, Rita Ora and Nick Jonas. The Florida native and latte enthusiast moved to Los Angeles. Gorman, like the other "Starlights," thanked Swift on her birthday, "Your heart and generosity is beyond BEYOND. And just when I think you’ve DONE IT, you TOP THAT!" Gorman shimmies at 32:40.

Eliotte Woodford wears the purple "Speak Now" dress and bangs the side of her vitrine during the "Look What You Made Me Do" portion of the Eras Tour at 1:07:38. Woodford has been with Swift since 2013. The wife and mother graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was a part of the a cappella group the "Mosaic Whispers." Her singing and dancing reel shows her early work with Swift .

'I don't wanna dance if I'm not dancing with you'

Fifteen dancers led by choreographer Mandy Moore and associate choreographers Amanda Balen and Jeremy Hudson create some of the most iconic moments during the 10 eras. Moore met Swift through mutual friend Emma Stone who worked with Moore on "La La Land." Her credits are extensive. Most recently, she put together the exemplary Ryan Gosling performance of "I'm Just Ken" at the Oscars.

Amanda Balen is the dance captain. The blond beauty hails from Ontario, Canada. She is famous among the Lady Gaga fandom for dancing in several of the star's music videos and being a part of the Roseland Ballroom residency in New York City in 2014. Balen has worked with Katy Perry and Pink. You can find her at 14:18 during "The Man" to the left of Swift.

Tori Evans lights up the stage. In her decade-plus career, the University of Arizona alumnus has been featured in Ricky Martin music video "Qué Rico Fuera" , swam in synchro-formation next to Beyoncé and strutted on "The Masked Singer ." Evans' resume also includes dancing for Cardi B, Mary J Blige, Jason Derulo and Maroon 5. Her dance teacher of 15 years, Lana Wright, told Morgan Hill Life , "Tori was always that ray of sunshine... I always knew Tori could accomplish her goals, if she really wanted it." You can catch Evans during "Blank Space." She hands Swift a glow-up club at 2:13:45.

Audrey Douglass has danced with the devil, in addition to many other television credits. The performer has boogied and waltzed on Netflix's "Lucifer," Apple TV+'s "The Morning Show," FX's "American Horror Story: 1984," Paramount+'s "1923" and "Dancing with the Stars." Douglass serves up sass as "Shay" in Dua Lipa's "Physical" work out video . Dancing runs in the family, because Douglass' older sister, Hannah, was one of the co-captain dancers on Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour . As the "Lover" house burns down, you can see Douglass to the left of Swift at 2:22:52.

Jan Ravnik (pronounced "yawn") is the smooth dancer who caught the eye of social media with his abs-olutely distracting "Lavender Haze" ladder dance . The Slovenian dancer has worked with Paula Abdul, Mariah Carey, Bruno Mars, Khalid and Luis Fonsi. Ravnik was awarded the "Best Dancer in Slovenia" and credited as the "Best Trainer/Choreographer" by the Slovenian Olympic committee. When he's not grooving on the international stage, he goes for long distance bike rides and takes artsy photos. You can see what's got the internet's attention at 2:36:46.

Taylor Banks strikes like a viper at 55:48, during "...Ready For It?" Banks was born in New Orleans, grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Los Angeles to shine. The dancer has been moving to the beat since she was 3 and been featured with artists including Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Cher, Ciara, Chris Brown, Jessie J, The Jacksons, Jason Derulo, Dua Lipa, Billie Eillish and Beyoncé. The fitness model has repped brands like Nike, Reebok, Skechers and Under Armour.

Sydney Moss was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. The spunky and fun dancer moved to Los Angeles after high school and has worked with Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Doja Cat, Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez. Moss has a beautiful rendition of "You're Losing Me" with fellow dancer Jan Ravnik. She dresses Swift in her bejeweled blazer during "The Man" at 9:03.

Natalie Lecznar is a former Radio City Rockette. The Chapman University graduate married her college sweetheart. She was on Season 5 of "So You Think You Can Dance." The vibrant dancer is easy to spot with her fire-red locks. She is known for her performance in the "Folklore" era when she becomes Rebekah Harkness during the "Last Great American Dynasty" at 1:51:41.

Whyley Yoshimura , why don't you come on over and shake, shake, shake? The dancer notably flips his long hair, still smooth despite the humidity, during "Shake It Off" at 2:17:40. Yoshimura is a native Hawaiian who went to the Kamehameha Schools on Oahu. He started dancing for Janet Jackson at 18 and went on to be her assistant choreographer for the "Unbreakable Tour." He is an LGBTQI+ advocate for the Rainbow Railroad .

Raphael Thomas is the "Tolerate It" star at 54:02. The Jamaican's nickname is "The Sandman." He toured with Mary J. Blige on the "Good Morning Gorgeous" tour , was featured in Rihanna's "Savage X Fenty Show" on Amazon Prime, danced for Janet Jackson in the 85 West Music Festival and lit up the stage with Beyonce during her "Homecoming" performance at Coachella.

Kevin Scheitzbach polishes up real nice! The "Bejeweled" dancer gets a breakout moment at 2:47:13 strutting some of his best moves. Scheitzbach specializes in jazz funk and street styles of dance. He runs FlowXS , a choreography company, with his equally charismatic and talented brother Michael. The two grew up in Toronto, Canada.

Kameron Saunders is the only dancer with a speaking line that he switches up nightly at the Eras Tour during "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" at 1:26:33. The ebullient dancer also shines during a "Bejeweled" dance solo at 2:48:10. The Missourian was honored in Kansas City when the council dubbed Jan. 25 Kameron Saunders Day of Dance. You can catch him and his fast-footed moves in the ensemble of "The Color Purple" and "Spirited." Saunders' brother Khalen is a defensive tackle for the New Orleans Saints.

Natalie Peterson is a professional dancer, fitness instructor, dance educator and Amazon influencer . The Chapman University graduate specialized in Latin dance. Before the Eras Tour, she served as the assistant choreographer for Karol G’s "Bichota Tour" and got her Lagree Fitness certification. You can spot her twirling in "Style" on the right of Swift at 2:10:39.

Tamiya Lewis is the crowd pleaser who wheels the "Red" road case onto the stage. During the tour, she opens it to reveal song snippets from "State of Grace," "Holy Ground," "Red" and "Everything Has Changed" (depending on the show). That part was cut from the movie, but you still see her bringing the case onstage to unleash hundreds of red balloons at 1:20:12. The 21-year-old is an alumnus of the Velocity Dance Convention , a dance convention and competition that provides classes to dancers across the U.S.

Sam Mcwilliams is the lovable dancer who appears to the right of Swift at 2:09:56. If you don't blink, you can also catch his famous "Style" flip at 2:10:41. The Oregon native has been dancing for most of his life. Check out a video of him in 2017 dancing to Meghan Trainor's "Me Too." In 2021, he was named the Radix senior male core performer , and he almost made the top 12 on Season 17 of "So You Think You Can Dance." Recently, Mcwilliams showed off his lyrical, limber and tumble talents in a duet dance with fellow dancer Jan Ravnik .

Karen Chuang hands Swift her microphone during "The Man" at 9:26. A few seconds later as she's poring over a typewriter, Swift takes her paper and chucks it. Chuang is officially a Gleek as one of her first television appearances was as a Vocal Adrenaline dancer in "Another One Bites The Dust." She also performed in the 2016 "Grease Live!" and Lady Gaga's Super Bowl halftime show. Chuang graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film takes its final bow at the box office this weekend

Taylor Swift  takes her final bow at the movie box office this weekend.

After a whirlwind four weeks in theaters, the singer’s Eras Tour concert film has  shattered records  and helped the theater industry weather a light release calendar.

Heading into its final weekend, the  Eras Tour film  has collected $150 million in domestic receipts and more than $200 million globally. That global haul represents more than 18% of the $1.092 billion total global box office earned since the film was released Oct. 13, according to data from Comscore.

“It’s been a remarkable, one-of-a-kind, record-breaking and influential run for the Eras Tour, not to mention a huge win for Taylor Swift and theater owners,” said Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at BoxOffice.com.

Expectations are that Swift will add another $10 million domestically this weekend and could be the number one film at the box office once again.

So far, the Eras Tour film is the highest-grossing domestic and global concert film release of all time, but lags just behind “Michael Jackson’s This Is It” concert documentary’s global haul of $262.5 million.

Swift’s concert film release came at an opportune time. Labor strikes in Hollywood led a number of films to depart the theatrical calendar, including the much-anticipated “Dune: Part Two” from  Warner Bros. Discovery  and Legendary Entertainment.

“One movie can make all the difference,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore. “This incredible box office performance is made all the more impressive given the film’s truncated release pattern that had it essentially playing on big screens four days a week.”

Swift’s unique release, coupled with her decision to distribute the film through the theater chain  AMC  instead of a traditional Hollywood studio, has also led to increased speculation about where the concert film will land on streaming.

Currently, it appears that Swift is waiting for the SAG-AFTRA strike to wrap up before negotiating with streamers for the rights to her concert film. The film is much-coveted in the industry and a big bidding battle is expected.

Swift has previously worked with Apple Music,  Netflix  and  Disney  to release filmed versions of her concerts and documentary projects.

Find out which songs from the tour setlist were cut

Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert film premiered in October to an enthusiastic crowd of celebrities, fans and of course Taylor’s team, with the star of the film in attendance. As one of the first to see the film, TheWrap got the scoop on which songs from the wildly popular tour made the film, and which songs were cut.

After making speeches in multiple auditoriums for separate audiences, Swift, clad in a sky blue floral-patterned dress (probably in theme for “1989 (Taylor’s Version) with her hair pinned up like the signature bob she had when that album first came out), sat back to enjoy the film’s premiere in one of the IMAX screening rooms with her background vocalists and publicist Tree Paine.

The documentary runs 2 hours and 48 minutes, slightly shorter than Swift’s three-hour setlist and performance, which she has brought to 17 of the United States so far in addition to Mexico. The European leg will kick off in November, with Swift returning for 15 more U.S. shows in October and November of 2024. Taylor Swift's 'The Eras Tour' breaks music-film streaming record on Disney+

KABC logo

LOS ANGELES -- It didn't take long for Taylor Swift's latest concert film to break more records.

"Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version)" quickly became the most-streamed music film on Disney+ within just days of its release.

The streaming platform says the film had 4.6 million views, for 16.2 million hours of viewing time, this weekend.

That surpasses numbers set by other music-related events and performances on Disney+, such as "Elton John: Farewell from Dodger Stadium" and "Black is King: A Film by Beyonce," among others.

The film's theatrical release last year also broke records for concert films, grossing more than $260 million at the global box office.

The 3.5-hour streaming version features material not available in the theatrical release, including four additional acoustic songs.

Taylor swift: the eras tour's disney+ record makes this release from 4 years ago more impressive.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour's record-breaking success puts the impressive achievements of another Disney+ music-centered movie into perspective.

  • The Eras Tour broke a Disney+ streaming record, proving Taylor Swift's status as a pop icon with a massive fanbase.
  • In comparison to The Eras Tour's success, Hamilton's achievements on Disney+ are just as impressive.
  • The Eras Tour will remain a triumph for Disney+ and Taylor Swift's legacy.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour's record achievement on Disney+ makes the accomplishments of a release that the streaming platform debuted four years ago even more impressive. Recognizing the former release's remarkable success in hindsight does not alter the reality of what Taylor Swift has achieved, for since its premiere, the pop icon's The Eras Tour broke a Disney+ streaming record and demonstrated just how big of a phenomenon Swift and her fanbase are. At present, The Eras Tour , a cinematic rendering of the singer's sixth concert tour, is the no.1 most streamed music film of all time on Disney+ .

With 4.6 million views and 16.2 million viewing hours as of about a week ago, the concert movie is an incredible feat, especially seeing as it succeeded two other versions of The Eras Tour released outside of Disney+. Still, though, Disney's extended version of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , coupled with the dedicated admiration of the singer and songwriter's Swiftie fanbase, was the perfect recipe for the concert movie to hit it big. In more than just identifying her own regards, however, Swift's The Era's Tour also put into perspective the staggering success of another Disney+ music-based film.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour On Disney+ Shows Just How Huge Hamilton Was

The Eras Tour is monumental for Disney+, no doubt - though comparatively, the 2020 cinematic stage performance of Hamilton was also a big deal for Disney+ , if not just as fruitful. Swift's concert movie, at first glance, appears to be far out of Hamilton's league in terms of streaming trajectory, garnering its record 4.6 million views in the first three days of release, while Hamilton amassed just 2.8 million in its first 12 days (via Samba TV ). The disparity in numbers could indicate that The Eras Tour outperformed Hamilton , but the latter actually did exceedingly well, given its circumstances.

Hamilton still welcomed millions of viewers and was a major source of profit for Disney+.

While The Eras Tour has the advantage of Disney's current subscriber base, which Statista amounts to about 149.6 million, Hamilton made its debut around the time the streaming platform's subscriber base was less than half that, at 60.5 million . Having less of an audience to cater to, Hamilton still welcomed millions of viewers - about 37% of Disney+ subscribers in its first month (per Variety ) - and was a major source of profit for Disney+. It not only shepherded viewers from competing titles on streaming sites like Netflix, but Hamilton led to an increase in Disney+ subscribers of 72.4%.

Hamilton Was Watched By More People In July Than Anything On Netflix

Why hamilton was so huge on disney+.

Hamilton is a 2015 reimagining of the 2004 book Alexander Hamilton, written by Ron Chernow. This Broadway musical is split into two acts and follows the rise of Alexander Hamilton, including the array of people that influenced his life and political tenure.

Similarly to the appeal behind Swift's The Eras Tour , the Hamilton movie attracted droves of audience members to Disney+ to witness the exciting, once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon it could provide . Hamilton didn't have Swift's megastar status or cult following at its fore, but it benefited from the largely inaccessible nature of the 2015 Broadway play it emerged from. Lin-Manuel Miranda's critically received Broadway production of Hamilton was elusive in that it was costly and inconvenient in location for many people, and it further escaped a good number of potential audience members when all of Broadway was shut down during the COVID pandemic .

At the height of its Broadway run, Hamilton tickets reached almost $10,000.

Hamilton being made available on Disney+ was an ingenious idea that opened the opportunity for the film to be viewed by anyone who wanted to see the Broadway play but couldn't , anyone enticed by the massive hype of the Hamilton phenomenon, and anyone with a Disney+ subscription looking to watch something new during the restrictions of the COVID pandemic. As such, Hamilton was huge on Disney+ and even became quite a success story that came out of the COVID era for the streaming platform. By the end of 2020, Hamilton was the most-watched SVOD movie in the US (via Observer ).

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Was A Success For Disney+ (Just Not As Big As Predicted)

Having The Eras Tour accompany Hamilton on the streaming platform is a great privilege for Disney+. With exclusive song additions and other nuances from the previous versions of Swift's tour, Disney+ likely predicted The Eras Tour to be bigger than it has already become, mainly because it followed the theatrical run of The Eras Tour, which scored $261 million worldwide. However, any predictions made are trivial, as the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert movie is a record-breaking acquisition for Disney+ that will continue to attract audiences to its library for so long as admirers want to see Swift perform.

There's One Perfect Way To Make Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour 2 Happen On Disney+

  • Taylor Swift could add songs from her new album to create a sequel to Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.
  • Including new album songs would emphasize Swift's growth as an artist and maintain the main point of the tour.
  • Adding too many new songs could potentially lower the production value of the ongoing performances.

One perfect way for audiences to get a sequel to Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour on Disney+ would be to add a few of the songs from her upcoming album to the setlist. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was released in theaters in 2023 and was a filmed version of her latest tour which had 152 shows across five continents. This was her second all-stadium tour, her first being her Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018.

Tickets for the Eras Tour broke records worldwide, selling 2.4 million during U.S. presales alone. Shortly after the initial performances, Swift released the self-produced concert film. The film was the highest-grossing concert film of all time and won several awards, including the People's Choice Award for The Concert Tour of the Year. After the theatrical run of the film, Swift announced the release date of her latest album on her Instagram and that she would continue the US leg of the tour through 2024.

10 Best Movies To Watch After The Eras Tour Film If Your Favorite Taylor Swift Album Is Lover

The eras tour 2 could happen if taylor swift adds in songs from her new album, the tortured poet's department is set to be released in april 2024..

While the film would probably not get a theatrical release, adding songs from her upcoming album would not only allow Swift to expand her film but would also continue to emphasize the main point of the tour. Taylor Swift's new album announcement could allow her to add to her current setlist and cut the new songs into the existing film. Swift could also make a separate streaming film featuring these new songs. Either option would keep the main goal of the tour alive: demonstrating Swift's growth as an artist and celebrating the impact she has had on pop culture.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Likely Won't Add Too Many The Tortured Poet's Department Songs

While anticipation for the new album is high, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour could ignore songs from the new album and stick to the current setlist. Not mentioning the new album would be a missed opportunity, as the tour reflects Swift's journey, and not including the newest era would break that narrative. Having at least the first few singles would allow the tour to come full circle and create more excitement for this latest album.

Conversely, the ongoing tour is already quite massive, so adding more could be detrimental. Between a large setlist and preparations for the concerts, including the choreography, staging, and set-up, adding even more could cause Swift to cut songs or lower the production value of the tour. This could cause audience disappointment, as both Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and the live concerts are extremely celebrated for the music as well as Swift's dynamic staging, so diminishing that could make a sequel more of a hindrance than a help.
