Travel Insurance for Spain

A Comprehensive Guide

by Nigel Clarkson 8th Apr 2024

Travel Insurance for Spain is one of the last things I have on my to-do list.

There again, it's getting more important these days with my asthma condition and age as I get older. So I thought I would put together a guide to getting travel Insurance for a trip to Menorca or wherever you are travelling to.

I have included 4 different companies that I have dealt with over the years , all offering slightly different coverage and prices depending on your situation. The Travel Supermarket and Medical Travel Compared are great for making price comparisons.

Common Travel Insurance questions

Is travel insurance mandatory to go to spain.

No, travel insurance is not mandatory for entering Spain. Having a policy in place can save you from significant financial strain and stress in case of unexpected situations.

Most people do the right thing and take out travel insurance before going on holiday or business. Lets have a look at the benefits.

Family Travel Insurance when visiting Spain

Here are some of the Benefits of Having Travel Insurance in Spain

Medical Emergencies: If you fall ill or have an accident, travel insurance can cover medical expenses, which can be costly, especially for tourists. Important to me.

Trip Cancellation: Unpredictable circumstances like illness or a family emergency can lead to trip cancellation. Travel insurance can reimburse your non-refundable expenses. I have been stuck on several delays in the past.

Lost or Stolen Belongings: Losing your baggage or having your possessions stolen can be distressing. Insurance can provide compensation for such losses. I have been lucky so far, but you never know.

Personal Liability: Accidents can happen, and if you accidentally injure someone or damage property, travel insurance can cover liability costs. The only time for me so far was losing my wallet in Ibiza many years ago now.

Travel Insurance Myths

Travel health insurance for Spain

Choosing the Right Policy

Yes, I know, you can sit there reading for ages to find the right insurance policy. It's a pain!

Let me try to help you, when selecting a travel insurance policy for Spain, try and consider the following:

Coverage Extent: Ensure the policy covers all your planned activities and the entire duration of your stay.

Medical Coverage: Look for policies offering comprehensive medical coverage, including emergency services and hospital stays. Important for me in my 60's.

Pre-existing Conditions: Some policies exclude pre-existing medical conditions. If you have such conditions, I insure with Travel Insurance 4 Medical who have excellent customer service.

Coverage Limits: Check the coverage limits and ensure they are adequate for your needs. For example, a minimum of €30,000 coverage is recommended for medical emergencies. You can a lot higher if you shop around I have found, check on the two comparison sites above. Travel Supermarket get a good score rating on this.

TSE and GHIC: What You Need to Know - can be confusing

For European travellers , the TSE (European Health Card) and the GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) can provide health coverage in Spain.

However, I must point out, that these cards have limitations and don't replace travel insurance. They mainly cover public healthcare and may not cover private medical costs or other travel-related issues like trip cancellations or lost baggage. Be warned.

Handling Emergencies in Spain

In case of an emergency in Spain, it's crucial to know the steps to take so worth taking note:

Seek Immediate Assistance: For medical emergencies, go to the nearest hospital or call the emergency number 112

Contact Your Insurer: Notify your insurance provider as soon as possible. Keep their contact information easily accessible. Its one of the essential pieces of paperwork or pdf on your phone .

Documentation: Collect and keep all receipts, reports, and documentation related to the incident for insurance claims. Super important or you won't have a successful claim.

Spanish Travel Insurance

Let me Debunked a few myths about Travel Insurance

"It's too expensive": Travel insurance is a small price to pay for the protection it offers. It's worth every penny when something happens, trust me. The cost is minimal compared to the potential expenses of unforeseen events.

"I'm already covered": Don't assume other forms of insurance you have will cover your travel. Check the specifics of your policies. We have an annual policy, but I always check the date of the end of that agreement before we go on holiday.

Final Tips for a Safe Trip to Spain

Travelling to Spain should be an enjoyable and worry-free experience.

Travel insurance acts as a safety net, allowing you to focus on relaxing and having a great time.

By choosing the right policy and staying informed, you can ensure a safe and secure trip to this beautiful country.

Travel Insurance for Spain

Travel health insurance companies should cover the following:

Unanticipated circumstances and diseases that might crop up at any time. It's important to note that the insurance you choose must provide full coverage for a minimum of €30,000 in the event of an emergency. You should also keep in mind that they do not cover pre-existing conditions, such as diabetes, as well as alcohol-related accidents. Terrorism or civil unrest-related occurrences are not covered by the policy.

However, you can declare pre-conditions with Travel Insurance 4 Medical and then get a free quote for full insurance including existing medical conditions.

In case of death, repatriation to your home country and save the family so many problems.

If your trip is cancelled, you will receive reimbursement. If your travel is disrupted owing to circumstances beyond your control.

Delays and missed flights. Once again, if you miss your flight due to uncontrollable events, you are protected by your insurance.

Personal liability. When you cause the loss of property belonging to a third party or hurt them by accident as a result of your carelessness.

Cover for stolen or lost passports and baggage .

I hope that has helped you to get something sorted out. It's better to have travel insurance and if you are young and fit, you can get insurance from £7 for a week's trip through Travel Supermarket which let's face it, is not much more than a coffee.

MENORCA TRAVEL GUIDE

Menorca Travel Guide

Menorca (or Minorca ) is the second largest island of the Balearics and the less visited compared to Majorca and Ibiza , but it’s a perfect destination for a more quiet and relaxed holiday with a great number of amazing beaches to choose from.

This guide will tell and also show you with photos everything you need to know about planning your trip to Menorca, the best places to visit and things to do and also provide detailed maps and itinerary .

INTRODUCTION TO MENORCA (MINORCA)

Why shall you visit Menorca ?

Menorca is one of the less touristy islands of the Balearics with stunning beaches and some beautiful coastal scenery.

An ideal destination for a relaxed holiday in the sun , but also for people looking for something more adventurous or cultural, as it combines beach activities with hiking opportunities, archaeological sights , seaside villages and two beautiful main towns (Cuitadela & Mahon or Mao) .

It has a lot of prehistoric structures : the navetas, the defensive towers called talayots and the taulas (T-shaped structures).

It is an appealing green island, designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve , and over forty per cent of it enjoys official protection.

Cala Pregonda, Menorca

BEST TIME TO VISIT MENORCA

The tourist season starts from May to mid-October

For a beach holiday , the best time to visit the island of Menorca is between June and the end of August . It’s dry, sunny and hot. Also, most of the tourist amenities will only be open during these months.

However, I would avoid the very high season: mid-July to late August, as the island tends to get very crowded with most prices tend to be higher. Weather can also get very hot, with temperatures over 25°C. However, due to its refreshing sea breeze, it never gets too hot during the summer.

May can be a bit cold to swim in the sea and sunbathe, but it is usually dry and sunny. September & October are considerably more cloudy and can be quite wet.

During the “winter season” most of the hotels, attractions, shops and restaurants, especially in the tourist resorts close in October and do not open until April.

For me, the best time to visit is June with more acceptable temperatures, fewer crowds and lower prices but still possible to swim in the sea.

HOW LONG TO STAY IN MENORCA

Menorca is quite a big island (about 690sqkm), so I would recommend staying on the island at least for 5 days to a full week if you would like to explore it and visit most of the sights at a relaxed pace. Despite its size, driving around the island is quite easy as it is mainly flat.

White sandy beach of Cala Mitjana, Menorca

WHERE TO STAY IN MENORCA

There are many resorts on the island of Menorca where you can spend your holidays. Some of the main beach resorts in Menorca are Cala Galdana , Cala ‘n Bosch Cala ‘n Porter , Son Bou, Santo Tomas, Punta Prima , Arenal d’en Castell , Son Park and Cala en Blanes .

Great places to stay are also Ciutadella and Mahon , the two main towns on the island if you are not bothered by having a beach within walking distance and you prefer city life with plenty of choices for restaurants, bars and shopping. If you want to explore the island by public transport, Mahon or Ciutadella are also the best places to stay in Menorca without a car.

My recommendation is to stay in Cala Galdana as it has a beautiful setting within a horseshoe bay and a beautiful beach, a nice little marina and lots of bars and restaurants. There are also a lot of hotels and apartments to rent and it’s the best base to explore the neighbouring beaches on foot if you don’t have a car.

Cala ‘n Porter is a long-established resort on the south coast ideal for families because of the beach with shallow water. The resort is up on the hill overlooking the beach so it is a bit of a steep walk up.

Cala ‘n Bosch is one of the most popular purpose-built resorts close to Ciutadella, with lots of bars, restaurants and things to do for families and close to a nice beach.

Santo Tomas & Son Bou are another two popular resorts on the south coast with a long stretch of white sandy beaches.

Cala ‘n Blanes, north of Ciutadella is another resort popular with mainly British families. The beach is not one of the best.

Punta Prima & Binibeca are two popular resorts close to Mahon.

Son Park & Arena d’ en Castell are two alternative resorts on the north coast of Menorca.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Entry requirements/visa.

No visas are required for visits up to 90 days for most nationalities. You can check entry requirements on this website .

Menorca is a safe place and you shouldn’t come across any issues during your stay. However, it’s worth being vigilant in crowded places and tourist areas for any pickpockets or scammers.

Travel Insurance

It’s always recommended to get travel insurance before you travel even if a destination like Menorca shouldn’t pose any safety concerns. You never know what might happen; better to be fully covered in case of an accident or flight delays etc. SafetyWing is a great choice for long-term travellers and digital nomads. Alternatively, you can use one of the price comparison websites for cheaper quotes.

The climate in Menorca is Mediterranean , with mild winters and hot, sunny summers.

Summer (June to Sept) : Dry, sunny and hot. Average temperatures between 23 to 35 degrees. July is the hottest and driest month.

Autumn (mid-September to November) : It starts to get cloudier, colder and also rainier as the days progress. Average temperatures between 18 to 25 degrees.

Winter (December to mid-March) : It can get quite cold and windy and also rainy but very rarely snows. Average temperatures between 12 to 16 degrees. February is the coldest month.

Spring (mid-March to May) : It starts getting warmer and sunnier with average temperatures between 15 to 19 degrees.

You can check historical weather data here .

Internet/Mobile Phone

Arrivals from EU countries can enjoy free roaming.

If not part of the EU, you can buy a SIM card in one of the shops of either Orange , Vodafone or Movistar (the three main mobile providers).

Catalan is the main language as well as Menorquin, which is a local dialect of Catalan, but everybody speaks Spanish and various levels of English.

The currency is the euro. It’s worth having some cash with you as a lot of small shops and cafes or restaurants won’t accept cards. The best place to exchange some money is through an ATM that can be found in most villages. More tips about exchanging money can be found here .

Menorca is more expensive than mainland Spain and prices are higher during July and August, especially for accommodation. An average double room will cost 100 euros per night and a meal at a restaurant around 60 euros for 2 people.

The power plugs and sockets are of type C and F (with two round pins). The voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz.

2 round pin plug

Packing List

If you visit in the summertime like most tourists, you won’t need to pack very much, mainly summer clothes & shoes , a hat , sunglasses , flip flops , the essential sunscreen and a swimming suit . However, I will recommend having a light summer jacket , as it can be quite chilly at night, especially in September and May when the wind blows.

For more information on travel gear and what to pack click here .

Port de Ciutadella de Menorca

HOW TO GET THERE

Menorca-Mahon Airport is connected to many cities from mainland Spain all year round and also to the Island of Majorca with regular flights. During the summer season, the airport receives charter flights from many European countries.

For the best website to book your flights, check the link below. Always check prices in advance for the best deals.

Getting from/to the airport

The airport is located about 4km away from Mahon. Upon your arrival, you can rent a car (highly recommended) in one of the rental offices at the airport. The airport is the best place to book if you haven’t done it before you arrive.

There is a metered taxi service outside the terminal building. The journey to Mahon is about 10min and to Ciutadella about 40min.

There is also a daily bus service (15min trip) that connects the airport with Mahon City Center (Mahon Bus Station), every 30min, from 6am to midnight at high season. The bus stop is located at the ground level of the main terminal, outside arrivals. More information about the bus service can be found here .

There are ferries from the port of Barcelona to Ciutadella (10 sailings per week in high season & a 6h journey) and Mahon (7.5h journey).

Menorca is also connected with Majorca with fast and frequent ferries from Alcudia (a 1.5 to 2h journey to Ciutadella ). The ferry tickets can be quite expensive.

For a good website to book your ferry ticket that doesn’t charge admin fees, check the link below.

HOW TO GET AROUND

I would definitely recommend hiring a car if you would like to explore the island .

I always try and rent a car whenever I travel as it just gives you the freedom to plan your trip as you like it and stop wherever you like, as I usually do with too many photo stops along the way.

Car rental for a day is usually 40-60 euros in high season. There are car rental offices at the airport and in the main resorts of the island, but it’s always better to book in advance before your travel for the best deals. Also in high season, there might be low availability and the prices can be much higher if you leave it until you arrive. Check the link below to book and compare car rental prices.

Be aware that during July and August, parking at the most popular beaches can be an issue because of the limited spaces.

By Scooter/Motorbike

A cheaper alternative to the car is renting a scooter or motorbike if you are comfortable with it, but you need to be more cautious on the road. The big advantage of renting a motorbike is that there will be no need to worry about parking.

There are taxi stands in most towns. There are only licensed taxis in Menorca, painted white and use meters; no private taxi companies or Uber. Taxis have fixed rates for longer distances and are considerably more expensive compared with bus service.

Indicative fares of taxi routes :

  • Airport to Mahon €15
  • Airport to Ciutadella €55
  • Airport to Cala Galdana: €45
  • Airport to Fornells: €40

Bus Network in Menorca connects the main towns and villages as well as some of the beach resorts, but only in the summer season. It is run by three different companies operating in different areas of the island (TMSA, Torres & Autos Fornells). Travelling by bus is a cheap alternative and it is quite comfortable but appropriate planning is needed. More information regarding bus routes, timetables and prices can be found on the following websites:

  • Autos Fornells

Es Castell, Menorca

WHAT TO EAT & DRINK

Best places to go for a meal are Ciutadella and Mahon for the best choices in a beautiful setting. For good seafood restaurants by the sea, you can also visit Port de Fornells, the best place to taste caldereta de llagosta. Below you can find a sample list of some of the best restaurants and bars in Menorca. For more information and reviews of restaurants on the island, you can check TripAdvisor .

Nightlife in Menorca is low-key compared with the neighbouring islands of Majorca and Ibiza but there are still some nice bars to enjoy a drink, especially by the sea.

Best restaurants & bars in Menorca

  • Restaurant Cafè Balear : Best seafood restaurant in Ciutadella. Very busy.
  • Ulisses: Located in the centre of Ciutadella for great tapas
  • Restaurante El Rais : One of the best portside restaurants in Mahon
  • Es Moli d’es Raco: Traditional menorcan food in Es Mercadal
  • El Pescador : Seafood seaside restaurant at Fornells
  • Cova d’en Xoroi: Menorca’s most popular bar built in a cave on a cliff overlooking the sea . One of the few nightclubs in Menorca
  • El Mirador in Placa d’Espanya : A nice bar by the walls above the harbour offering views of Mahon bay.
  • Sa Falua: A nice bar on Mahon waterfront for cocktails

You can check the location of these restaurants on this map .

Local Specialities

  • The island’s signature dish: caldereta de llagosta or lobster stew
  • Fish & Seafood

BEST BEACHES IN MENORCA

Menorca has some amazing beaches to choose from. The most popular beaches are on the south coast of the island, mainly small white sandy coves with crystal clear turquoise waters.

I recommend visiting at least the two popular beaches on the south coast Cala Galdana & Cala ‘n Porter and two of the best coves Cala Macarella and Cala Mitjana.

Do not forget to visit some of the equally beautiful beaches on the north coast like Cala Pregonda and Platja de Cavalleria with the amazing red cliffs.

Horse riding

Menorca a Cavall is a company that offers horse riding excursions to different beaches and locations around the island. The farm is located near the town of Ferreries.

There are numerous hiking trails but the most famous one is Camí de Cavalls .

This is an ancient path of 185km that encircles the whole island of Menorca. You can also cycle part of the route or even horse ride.

Activities for kids

Lloc de Menorca is a small zoo where you can enjoy a variety of animals between native breeds and exotic species. Open from April to October (10am to 6pm) with a general price for adults of €14 & €9 for kids. It is located between Alaior and Mahon.

Splash Sur Menorca is probably the best water park in Menorca, located in Punta Prima. Price for adults €23.

Aqua Centre is another water park situated in Cala en Blanes, north of Ciutadella. Great for smaller kids, but a bit overpriced for what’s on offer. Price for adults €22.

Wine Tasting

Bodegas Binifadet : The winery is located near Sant Lluis and offers wine-tasting tours. The experience lasts for about an hour and includes strolling through the vineyards, a visit to the winery to see all the stages of production of the wines from harvesting to bottling and finally wine tasting. Price of tour: €12. The restaurant is really nice too where you can enjoy dinner and wine in a beautiful location.

EXCURSIONS & TOURS

  • Boat tour of Mahon Harbour

This is a good 1h tour of the Mahon harbour offering some great views of the surrounding coastline and the town of Mahon.

There are two companies ( Yellow catamarans & Rutas Maritimas de la Cruz ) offering cruises around the harbour at €13.5 per adult.

During the trip, you can listen to a commentary in English on the history and points of interest of the Port of Mahon and Menorca, but there are no stops during the trip.

Boat tour along the coast of Menorca

This is a very good way of seeing the non so easily accessible beaches of the south coast. The best tours on offer are the ones below:

  • Half-Day Boat Tour along the South Coast of Menorca : This tour starts from Cala ‘n Bosch (€35 per adult & 3.5h duration).
  • Half-Day Boat Excursion 6-8 South beaches of Menorca : This tour starts from Cala Galdana (€70 & 3.5h duration)

Ferry trip to Majorca

If you have plenty of time on the island, you can take the ferry from Ciutadella to Alcudia (1.5h to 2h journey) in neighbouring Majorca and enjoy this beautiful coastal resort.

Difficult to be done as a day trip, but it’s definitely worth visiting Majorca as part of a longer trip.

More information about excursions & tours in Menorca can be found here .

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

The following itinerary includes things to do for 6 days on the island, but if you have more time to spend, you can change this itinerary to allow a more relaxed pace. I have taken Cala Galdana as a base & overnight stay for the duration of the holiday; this itinerary might work slightly differently if you stay in other parts of the island.

THINGS TO BUY

The best destination for souvenir shopping is either Mahon or Ciutadella with lots of souvenir shops as well as shops with handmade crafts and typical menorcan products.

A unique souvenir to buy is a pair of avarques, a typical sandal from Menorca exported around the world. S’Avarca de Menorca in Mahon has a wide selection and the most unique designs.

Queso de Mahón (Mahon cheese) or sobrassada (cured sausage) can be bought in the markets of Mahon.

  • Flights : I always use Skyscanner as my first choice as it’s so easy to use and you can search best deals by month. Momondo is another very good search engine as well as Google Flights .
  • Accommodation : I always use Booking.com as my first choice, as it offers a great choice of accommodation at affordable prices and it’s so easy to use. TripAdvisor and Trivago are the best search engines to check deals from different websites; however not as good for checking the actual properties & rooms. Airbnb is a great alternative to find out homes and apartments to rent by real homeowners.

Menorca is a tame island in the Mediterranean, often overlooked compared to its lively counterparts such as Ibiza .

Often seen as a cliche 'perfect island', it is not to be missed. Its gentle landscapes are ideal for walking, cycling or riding.

There are also plenty of historical monuments and museums if you love immersing yourself in the culture of your holiday.

Horse Riding

Most visits to Menorca are trouble. However, you may find some pickpockets in built-up areas, so constantly monitor your belongings. If you drink, know your limit - remember that drinks served in bars are often more robust than those in the UK. Imes.

Tourists in Menorca have also reported cases of drink spiking, often done by other British Nationals. To avoid this, buy your drinks and never leave them unattached in the UK.

Avoid splitting up with your friends, and don't go off with people you don't know.

Things to consider before your Spanish departure

Whether it is your first time visiting Spain, or you’re a frequent guest, we have created a list of travel tips to help you make the most of your Spanish fiesta. When planning your trip, don’t forget to secure your Travel Insurance for Spain.

The love for siestas is real

One of the oldest Spanish traditions is a Siesta. Every afternoon from 2 pm, many people take this time to unwind and nap during their workday. However, some shops and restaurants stay open.

Late-night living

Spanish nightlife tends to be much later than in the UK; food is not rushed, and the Spanish take this opportunity to socialise and enjoy time with their loved ones. Dinner doesn’t usually start until about 9 pm, and a relaxed meal out can last until midnight. As a result of siestas, late nights are part of Spanish culture.

Spaniards don’t just speak Spanish

While Castillian Spanish is the official language of Spain, there are ten major Spanish dialects within the country. In popular areas like Barcelona or Costa Brava, you will hear Catalan. If you’re a first-time visitor or planning to learn the language, it can take you by surprise and make understanding Spanish a little more difficult. We recommend learning Castilian Spanish phrases, as many understand the language.

Take a look at our 13 must-know phrases for your next visit to Spain to further your knowledge.

Try the regional food

Many travellers are familiar with Spain’s most famous dishes, like paella, chorizo, or Iberico ham, but with such diversity in their regional/local dishes, there is something new to try wherever you visit. Travel to the peaks of the Pyrenees for a taste of Chilindron (Spanish Stew), or venture to Aragon, one of Spain’s lesser-known regions, to indulge in Cordero Asado (lamb roast). Remember, if you suffer from any food allergies, you should declare these on your Travel Insurance Spain policy for peace of mind while you enjoy your travels.

Go Island hopping

Deciding between one of the four main Balearic Islands is hard, so why not visit them all? Local island ferries, as well as ferries from the Spanish mainland, make it incredibly easy to hop from island to island. Valencia, Barcelona and Denia are the three major ports visitors can leave from. Although, those who would rather travel by air can take flights from any part of Europe to Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca.

  • Travel insurance for Spain

Every year, millions of holidaymakers from the UK head to Spain for its combination of glistening beaches, unique culture and Mediterranean cuisine.

If you’re planning a trip, get up to speed on what you should consider when buying travel insurance for Spain. Understand what your policy covers. Don't forget you Ghic or valid Ehic. And enjoy a safe holiday.

Charles V palace in Alhambra, Spain

Healthcare for Brits in Spain

Healthcare arrangements for UK travellers visiting EU countries like Spain have changed as of 1 January 2021.

If you're a UK citizen travelling in an EU country, you can apply for a UK Global Health Insurance Card (Ghic) that will provide access to emergency and necessary state healthcare while you're there for free or at a reduced cost. If you have an existing Ehic, its predecessor, that is still in date, you can use that for the same.  Read more about Ghic and Ehic .

Remember, Ehic and Ghic don't cover everything. For instance, repatriation and airlift rescues aren't included. So you should buy travel insurance with medical cover to ensure comprehensive protection too.

Like the UK, Spain has both public and private healthcare systems, sometimes operating out of the same clinics or hospitals.

If you need to access healthcare, it may be worth insisting you are treated at a public health centre or hospital. Travel insurance may cover you for private healthcare, but it’s worth checking your policy before you depart to be aware of your options in case something goes wrong.

The Spanish word for the accident and emergency department is “urgencias”. The emergency phone number is 112 or 061 for an ambulance.

Some regions of Spain are remote and ambulances might take some time to get you to the nearest public hospital. If you are staying somewhere remote, it’s a good idea to check where the nearest health centres are and whether they are private or public before you leave. This is particularly important if you have pre-existing medical conditions.

Protect what matters when you go with good travel insurance

Travel risks in spain.

The most common travel risk faced by holidaymakers in Spain is theft. This can come in many forms, such as pickpocketing or things going missing from hotel rooms. The Foreign and Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) travel advice for Spain  warns that thieves are likely to go for money and passports, so ensure that these are well protected.

That doesn’t mean to say that the rest of your belongings are safe. It's important to insure your gadgets , especially smartphones, which are always targets for thieves. Stay alert and don’t advertise your belongings.

Thieves may work in gangs and use distraction techniques to rob you, such as asking for directions with a map. While no one wants to be antisocial on holiday, always be on your guard against people who appear suddenly and are over-familiar.

There are instances of thieves playing a longer game in order to scam or rob people, perhaps even offering to take you out for drinks. Again, always be mindful of a person’s motivations and keep your belongings on you at all times.

Dangers of drinking excessively in Spain

Lots of us enjoy a tipple whilst on holiday, but there are dangers of taking it to excess aside from obvious health concerns.

Having an accident while intoxicated or requiring medical care as a result of drinking alcohol may impact your travel insurance cover. Read your policy documents carefully to understand the risks.

There are risks that don’t mix with alcohol regardless of how much you’ve had. Clearly, driving a car or riding a moped should be avoided. Spain’s drink driving limit is much lower than the UK’s – 0.5 milligrams of alcohol per litre of blood versus our 0.8 – so it may be safer not to drink and drive at all. This is even stricter for new drivers, where the limit is 0.1.

The FCDO have a safety and security section on their Spain travel advice page which includes the risk of balcony falls which are often alcohol-related.

Drinking alcohol during the day in the heat of Spain can dramatically increase the risk of dehydration. Try to stay shaded and, even if you don’t feel like it, drink a lot of water.

Regional considerations

Follow the advice above and always be aware of people approaching you suddenly or touching you, even if it is lightly.

There are areas particularly notorious for pickpocketing, like La Rambla and Sagrada Familia, however it’s important to be on your guard everywhere.

You should exercise the same caution in all major cities, including Madrid, Seville, Bilbao, Granada and Alicante.

Popular activities in Spain – are they covered?

Most of what you will want to do in Spain won’t be considered an ‘activity’ from an insurer’s perspective – such as walking around, eating out, seeing the culture and sunbathing.

But remember that your insurance might not cover you for a range of beach, water and adventure activities, so check your policy before you leave and take a copy of your policy documents with you in case you want to check if you can do something on a whim.

Things that you might not be covered for include pony-trekking, surfing, banana boating, quad biking, renting scooters or mopeds (unless certain safety precautions are observed), scuba diving while not part of an organised group and more.

Taking part in organised activities with licensed groups will be safer and more likely to be covered, but always make sure you’ve checked your policy beforehand.

Always have travel insurance

Being safe and aware of danger isn’t always enough to prevent something undesirable happening to you while you’re away. There are many ways you could simply be unlucky while away.

While you can’t completely guard against all eventualities, you can make sure that you’ve got adequate travel insurance .

Does Lanzarote come under Spain for travel insurance?

The Canary Islands are part of Spain, which in turn is part of Europe, so you’ll usually find travel insurers class islands like Lanzarote as part of Europe in their policies. That’s certainly how we do it with Post Office Travel Insurance – but you should always check the policy to be sure, whoever the provider. Read more about travel insurance for the Canary Islands .

Does Majorca come under Spain for travel insurance?

Majorca (or Mallorca) as well as Menorca, Ibiza and the other Balearic Islands, are part of Spain and so insurers treat them that way when offering their policies and providing a quote for cover. Usually, that means including Spain as part of cover for Europe as a whole. For example  Post Office Travel Insurance counts the Balearics, Canaries and other Spanish islands as part of Spain. It’s important to always check the policy wording to be sure the destination you’re travelling to will be covered, though.

11 Best Travel Insurance Companies in April 2024

Sean Cudahy

Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This influences which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own. Here is a list of our partners and here's how we make money .

If the past few years have shown us anything, it’s that travelers need to be prepared for the unexpected — from a pandemic to flight troubles to the crowded airport terminals so many of us have encountered.

Whether you’re looking for an international travel insurance plan, emergency medical care or a policy that includes extreme sports, these are the best travel insurance providers to get you covered.

How we found the best travel insurance

We looked at quotes from various companies for a 10-day trip to Mexico in September 2024. The traveler was a 55-year-old woman from Florida who spent $3,000 total on the trip, including airfare.

On average, the price of each company’s most basic coverage plan was $126.53. The costs displayed below do not include optional add-ons, such as Cancel For Any Reason coverage or pre-existing medical condition coverage.

Read our full analysis about the average cost of travel insurance so you can budget better for your next trip.

However, depending on the plan, you may be able to customize at an added cost.

As we continue to evaluate more travel insurance companies and receive fresh market data, this collection of best travel insurance companies is likely to change. See our full methodology for more details.

But it can be a good choice for travelers who are satisfied with trip cancellation and interruption coverage of $2,500 or less, do not need rental car damage protection, find the limits to be sufficient and do not need coverage for certain more adventurous activities.

Travelex’s plans focus heavily on providing protections that are personalized to your travel style and trip type.

While the company does offer comprehensive plans that include medical benefits, you can also choose between cheaper plans that don’t provide cancellation coverage but do offer protections during your travels.

What else makes Travelex Insurance Services great:

Three comprehensive plans available, two of which cover international trips.

Offers a post-departure plan geared exclusively toward disruptions after you leave home.

Two flight insurance plans available.

Best if you have travel credit card coverage: Seven Corners

insurance-product-card-logo

Seven Corners

  • Annual, medical-only and backpacker plans are available.
  • Cancel For Any Reason upgrade is available for the cheapest plan.
  • Cheapest plan also features a much less costly Interruption for Any Reason add-on.
  • Offers only one annual policy option.

Each Seven Corners plan offers several optional add-ons. Among the more unique is a Trip Interruption for Any Reason, which allows you to interrupt a trip 48 hours after the scheduled departure date (for any reason) and receive a refund of up to 75% of your unused nonrefundable deposits.

The basic coverage plan for our trip to Mexico costs $124 — right around the average.

What else makes Seven Corners great:

Comprehensive plans for U.S. residents and foreigners, including travelers visiting the U.S.

Cheap add-ons for rental car damage, sporting equipment rental or trip interruption for any reason.

Best for long-term travelers: IMG

insurance-product-card-logo

  • Coverage available for adventure travelers.
  • Special medical insurance for ship captains and crew members, international students and missionaries.
  • Claim approval can be lengthy.

While some travel insurance companies offer just a handful of plans, with IMG, you’ll really have your pick. Though this requires a bit more research, it allows you to search for coverage that fits your travel needs.

However, travelers will want to be aware that IMG’s iTravelInsured Travel Lite is expensive. Coming in at $149.85, it’s the costliest plan on our list.

What else makes IMG great:

More affordable than average.

Many plans to choose from to fit your needs.

Best for travelers with unpredictable work demands: Tin Leg

insurance-product-card-logo

  • In addition Cancel For Any Reason, some plans offer cancel for work reason coverage.
  • Adventure sports-specific coverage is available.
  • Plans have overlap that can be hard to distinguish.
  • Only one plan includes Rental Car Damage coverage available as an add-on.

Tin Leg’s Basic plan came in at $134 for our sample trip, adding about $8 onto the average basic policy cost. Note that you’ll pay a lot more if you shop for the most comprehensive coverage, and there are eight plans to choose from for trips abroad.

The multitude of plans can help you find coverage that fits your needs, but with so many to choose from, deciding can be daunting.

The only real way to figure out your ideal plan is to compare them all, look at the plan details and decide which features and coverage suit you and your travel style best.

insurance-product-card-logo

Selecting your travel insurance plan with TravelSafe is a fairly straightforward process. The company’s website also makes it easy to visualize how optional add-on elements influence the total cost, displaying the final price as soon as you click the coverage.

However, at $136, the Basic plan was among the more expensive for our trip to Mexico.

What else makes TravelSafe great:

Rental car damage coverage add-on is available on both plans.

Cancel For Any Reason coverage available on the TravelSafe Classic plan.

As you shop for travel insurance, you’ll find many of the same coverage categories across numerous plans.

Trip cancellation

This covers the prepaid costs you make for your trip in cases when you need to cancel for a covered reason. This coverage helps you recoup upfront costs paid for flights and nonrefundable hotel reservations.

Trip interruption

Trip interruption benefits generally involve disruptions after you depart. It helps reimburse costs incurred for flight delays, cancellations and plenty of other covered disruptions you might encounter during your travels.

This coverage can cover the costs for you to return home or reimburse unexpected expenses like an extra hotel stay, meals and ground transportation.

Trip delay coverage helps cover unexpected costs when your trip is delayed. This is another coverage that helps offset the costs of flight trouble or other travel disruptions.

Note that many policies have a total amount a traveler can claim, with caps on per diem benefits, too.

Cancel For Any Reason

Cancel For Any Reason coverage allows you to recoup some of the upfront costs you paid for a trip even if you’re canceling for a reason not otherwise covered by your standard travel insurance policy.

Typically, adding this protection to your plan costs extra.

Baggage delay

This coverage helps cover the costs of essential items you might need when your luggage is delayed. Think toiletries, clothing and other immediate items you might need if your luggage didn’t make it on your flight.

Many travel insurance plans with baggage delay protection will specify how long (six, 12, 24 hours, etc.) your luggage must be delayed before you can make a claim.

Lost baggage

Used for travelers whose luggage is lost or stolen, this helps recoup the lost value of the items in your bag.

You’ll want to make sure you closely follow the correct procedures for your plan. Many plans include a maximum total amount you can claim under this coverage and a per-item cap.

Travel medical insurance

This covers out-of-pocket medical costs when travelers run into an emergency.

Because many travelers’ health insurance plans don’t cover medical care overseas, travel medical insurance can help offset out-of-pocket health care costs.

In addition to emergency medical coverage, many plans have medical evacuation or repatriation coverage for costs incurred when you must be taken to a hospital or return to your home country because of a medical situation.

Most travel insurance plans cover many trip protections that can help you be prepared for unexpected travel disruptions and expenses.

These coverages are generally aimed at protecting the money you put into your trip, expenses you incur because of travel trouble and costs incurred if you have a medical emergency overseas.

On top of core coverages like trip cancellation and interruption and travel medical coverage, some plans offer add-on options like waivers for pre-existing conditions, rental car collision damage waivers or adventure sports riders. These usually cost extra or must be added within a specified timeframe.

Typical travel insurance policies offer coverage for many unforeseen events, but as you research to select a plan, consider your needs. Though every plan differs, there are some commonly excluded coverages.

For instance, you typically can’t get coverage for a named storm if you bought the coverage after the storm was named. In other words, if you have a trip to the Caribbean booked for Sept. 25 and on Sept. 20 a hurricane develops and is named, you generally won’t be able to buy a travel insurance plan Sept. 21 in hopes of getting your money back.

Many plans also don’t cover activities performed under the influence of drugs or alcohol or any extreme sports. If the latter applies to you, you might want to consider a plan with specific coverages for adventure-seekers.

For numerous plans, a few other situations don’t qualify as an acceptable reason to cancel and make a claim, such as fear of travel, medical tourism or pregnancies (unless you booked a trip and bought insurance before you became pregnant or there are complications with the pregnancy). This is where a Cancel For Any Reason add-on to your coverage can be helpful.

You can also run into trouble if you give up on a trip too soon: a minor (or even multihour) flight delay likely isn’t sufficient to cancel your entire trip and get reimbursed through your plan. Be sure to review what requirements your specific plan has when it comes to canceling a trip, claiming trip interruption, etc.

Travel insurance costs vary widely. The final price of your plan will fluctuate based on your age, length of trip and destination.

It will also depend on how much coverage you need, whether you add on specialized policies (like Cancel For Any Reason or pre-existing conditions coverage), whether you plan to participate in extreme sports and other factors.

In our examples above, for instance, the 35-year-old traveler taking a $2,000 trip to Italy would have spent an average $76 for a basic plan to get coverage for things like trip cancellation and interruption, baggage protection, etc. That’s a little less than 4% of the total trip cost — lower than average.

If there were multiple members in a traveling party or if they were going on, say, a rock-climbing or bungee-jumping excursion, the costs would go up.

On average, travel insurance comes to about 5% to 10% of the trip cost. However, considering many of the plans reimburse up to 100% of the trip cost (or more) for disruptions like trip cancellation or interruption, it can be a worthwhile expense if something goes wrong.

It depends. Consider the following factors that might affect your decision: You’re young and healthy, all your bookings are refundable or cancelable without a penalty, your flights are nonstop, you’re not checking bags and a credit card you carry offers some travel protections . In that case, travel insurance might not be necessary.

On the other hand, if you prepaid a large chunk of money for a nonrefundable African safari, you’re going on a Caribbean cruise in the middle of a hurricane season or you’re going somewhere where the cost of health care is high, it’s not a bad idea to buy a travel insurance plan. Here’s how to find the best travel insurance coverage for you.

If you’re thinking of booking a trip and not planning to buy travel insurance, you may want to consider at least booking refundable airfare and not prepaying for hotel, rental car and activity reservations. That way, if something goes wrong, you can cancel without losing any money.

Selecting the best travel insurance policy comes down to your needs, concerns, preferences and budget.

As you book, take a few minutes to consider what most concerns you. Is it getting stranded because of flight trouble? Having the ability to cancel for any reason you see fit without losing money? Getting sick or injured right before departure and needing to postpone the trip? Injuring yourself or falling ill while overseas?

Ultimately, you want a plan that protects you, your money and the large investment in your trip — but doesn’t cost too much, either.

Medical coverage. If your priority is having adequate medical coverage abroad, you might want to look for plans with high limits for medical emergencies and medical evacuation.

Complex travel itinerary. If your itinerary has lots of flight connections, prepaid hotels and deposits for activities you can’t get back, prioritizing a plan with the best coverage for trip cancellations or interruptions may land at the top of your list.

Travel uncertainty. If you’re on the fence about a trip and have nonrefundable reservations, you may want to select a plan with a Cancel For Any Reason coverage option, which can help you recoup about 50% to 75% of the costs. This helps provide peace of mind, placing the decision on whether to travel entirely in your hands.

Car rentals. If you’re renting a car, a collision damage waiver is often worth looking into.

The following destinations are the top insured destinations in 2024, according to Squaremouth (a NerdWallet partner).

The Bahamas.

Costa Rica.

Antarctica.

In 2022, travelers spent about 25.53% more on trips than they did before the pandemic.

As of December, NerdWallet analysis determined travel prices are 10% higher than pre-pandemic. Each statistic makes a strong case for protecting your travel investment as you plan your next trip.

10 credit cards that provide travel insurance.

Here is the list of travel cards offered by Chase that include various forms of travel insurance.

Having one of these in your wallet is a good start to protecting your travel investments and preventing expensive accidents; however, savvy travelers check card terms closely and sometimes supplement with a third-party policy, like from one of the companies above, to better protect themselves.

We used the following factors to choose insurance providers to highlight:

Breadth of coverage: We looked at how many plans each company offered plus the range of their standard plans.

Depth of coverage: We considered two data points to get a sense of how much each company pays out for common travel issues — the maximum caps for trip cancellation and trip interruption claims.

Cost: By looking at the costs for basic coverage across multiple companies, we determined an average cost for shoppers to benchmark plan prices against.

Customizability: While standard plans can cover a lot of ground, sometimes you need something a little more personal.

Customer satisfaction. Using data from Squaremouth when available, and Google Reviews as a backup, we can give kudos to companies with better track records from their clients.

No, it doesn’t necessarily get more expensive the longer you wait to purchase. However, as you put off buying insurance, you may lose access to potential plans and coverage options.

In general, buying travel insurance within a few days to two weeks of prepaying or making an initial deposit for your trip is your best bet. Assuming you’re not booking last-minute, this will provide you with access to the widest possible range of coverage options. It also helps prevent any medical conditions or storms that pop up between booking and buying a plan from ending up as excluded situations, which won’t be covered by your plan.

But, generally, many plans do allow you to buy coverage quite close to your departure date.

To get the most out of your travel insurance plan, buy it soon after making your initial prepayment or deposit to ensure you have access to the biggest menu of plans possible.

Select a plan that’s comprehensive enough to cover the travel scenarios you’re most concerned about or likely to encounter but not too expensive or laden with protections you’d never likely need.

Whatever your coverage, thoroughly review the plan so you understand what’s covered and what’s not, plus how to adhere to the plan’s rules for making a claim.

Travelers frequently use phrases like “trip insurance” and “travel insurance,” as well as “trip protection,” interchangeably, but they do mean different things, according to Stan Sandberg, founder of insurance comparison site TravelInsurance.com.

Trip insurance, or trip protection, generally refers to predeparture (or preevent) coverage if you need to cancel. You may see these plans sold by airlines, online travel agencies or even ticketed event sellers.

“You could refer to it as the portion that protects the investment in the trip,” Sandberg says.

A travel insurance plan typically includes that — plus more comprehensive benefits to protect you during your trip, from medical coverage to trip delay and lost baggage protections, and many more elements, depending on the plan.

Though travel insurance is typically not required for international trips, your personal circumstances will play a key role in whether it’s a good investment.

For instance, young, healthy travelers with few prepaid trip expenses embarking on a relatively risk-free trip may not see a need to buy a plan.

Older travelers with complicated itineraries who are visiting destinations where they could potentially fall ill or get injured — or who could encounter bad weather or some other disrupting factor along the way — may want to buy coverage.

Consider a few key questions:

How well would your health insurance plan cover you if you needed to visit a hospital overseas?

How much did you prepay for a hotel or rental car?

How much money would you be out if weather or some other flight issue derailed your itinerary?

Could you afford an unexpected night in a city where you have a connecting flight?

Do you already have a credit card that provides some travel protections?

Your answers to these questions can help you decide whether you need travel insurance for your international trip.

In general, buying travel insurance

within a few days to two weeks of prepaying or making an initial deposit

for your trip is your best bet. Assuming you’re not booking last-minute, this will provide you with access to the widest possible range of coverage options. It also helps prevent any medical conditions or storms that pop up between booking and buying a plan from ending up as excluded situations, which won’t be covered by your plan.

Just a quick question to all you regular travellers to Minorca which travel insurance do you use not just by cost but value for money covering all possible needs we all might be missing a trick

Thanks let's see what comes forward we all need it

' class=

We changed from bank for the 'parent ' problem. Mum is 86 pa in law 87 both fit but , if anything happened we'd need to get back . All my complaints are passed as fine, am on a yearly check , I read not so long ago , when you have controlled medical problems , you're less risk !!! Think this could make sense ! MR I'm quite a sad person as if I've no Menorcan holiday booked I panic !!!!

"I read not so long ago , when you have controlled medical problems , you're less risk"

Yes but that's us and we declare them and get charged extra.

Now a person who does not attend their doctors for check ups does not know he has say high blood pressure so does not declare it and then gets Banks insurence free of extras.

That's my point really we should be cheaper ! We take care to keep well and get ripped off !

When I made my successful claim, my son had had kidney problems for 5 years but suddenly took a turn for the worse when the Doctors tried a different medication which had the wrong effect. I think that some would not have pursued the claim after the initial response but I did and eventually they accepted that at the time of booking I could not have forseen his state of health 3 months later. You must not let them fob you off if they refuse your claim at the first hurdle

Mrs A had a hysterectomy 16 years ago and the travel ins co we were with said they would not cover her "in case there was a reoccurence of her problem". It had to be passed up to H/O for common sense to prevail.

Now she has donated a kidney to my son I dread to think what the Ins Co will say when we travel in January

Had to smile at that one - there cannot be many ladies born with two sets of reproductive organs !

Who was it with Vicki f? Also, how is your son feeling now - is he completely back to normal again ?

Hi Vicki , remember you ! A prime example , hope all is well now . Hopefully next time you book a holiday you won't have another problem , but I fear the insurance will be up take care x

Hi all, it was with a company called Insure and Go, excess on the policy was £150, expensive excess if you just need a minor doctors appointment but in our case worth every penny. Daniel is doing well thanks Menorca Reg but unfortunately has some long lasting damage. He has lost his hearing in his left ear completely which is irreversible damage although his right ear is unaffected, stamina is very much reduced - can only manage part time at school at the moment but the worst effect has been short term memory loss (not great in GCSE year at school) this may or may not improve in time.

Not sure whether I mentioned it at the time but the previous time we had been to Menorca was in 2006 and Daniel caught chickenpox whilst we were there and we spent most of our time confined to our apartment! Anyway 3rd time lucky and we have just booked to go back to Calan bosch in August next year - haven't looked at insurance yet Margaret but think I will be paying considerably more than my £16.75!!!!

Can i just once again thank you for your support advice and encouragement during our hospital stay you helped get me through an awful time, although strangely enough I will always have fond memories of Cuitadella! Menorca is a truly beautiful island made even more attractive by the people, I can honestly say that everyone I met during our holiday and our extended stay at the hospital were wonderful and so helpful and kind.

Thanks for the update Vicki -it is a shame that he has ongoing problems as a result of the meningitis but given how poorly he clearly was I am sure you are over the moon he came through it as well as he did- it is a horrible illness. I once worked with a lady whose son developed Meningitis as a toddler and nearly died and he lost his hearing in both ears but eventually was given cochlea implants as a teenager ( she wouldn't do it until he was old enough to decide himself if he wanted the surgery) and last I heard was at doing well and at University, so I am sure that things will improve for Daniel in time

Re re his current short term memory issues, most dyslexics have those too ( my son was diagnosed as dyslexic in 6th form so I know the problem) so if Daniel is not being offered proper ongoing therapy to help him develop strategies to work with or improve his short term memory issues , it might be worth investigating dyslexia help forums and publications yourself . Also, if the school have not already mentioned it, start asking now what extra help they intend to put in place for his upcoming exams - if the disability is not going to resolve itself quickly the school should be trying now to get arrangements agreed with his exam board for him to be allowed up to 25% extra time in all his exams to compensate for the difficulties his condition causes him . IMO once students go into higher education ( where things such as disabled students allowance, mentoring and specialist support services are widely available) information about help available is readily offered, but often schools do not always tell you what options are there as getting it organised takes time and effort on their part and not all want the extra hassle

Holidays in Menorca

For a blissful holiday in the Balearics, look no further than the magnificent island of Menorca. More peaceful than the larger Balearic Islands of  Majorca  and  Ibiza , a trip to Menorca is perfect if you enjoy relaxing holidays that still offer plenty of culture. This island doesn't need to shout about its appeal; as soon as you step off the plane, you'll see why it's such a hit with all types of holidaymakers. It's worth saying that you might fall hopelessly in love with Menorca!

The glorious summer temperatures of up to 25°C are perfect for a spot of sunbathing on the beach before you stop at a local bar for a cooling glass of sangria. Or, for a more adventurous day, you can get involved with the thrilling beach watersports. You will be spoiled for choice with the fantastic selection of beaches on your Menorca holiday - there are over 100 on the island for you to enjoy! If you're keen to experience ultimate relaxation, why not visit one of the secluded bays and have a dip in the clear blue seas? When you fancy a break from the beach, you'll find lots of stunning Gothic churches, monuments and prehistoric remains across Menorca to admire. Grab your camera and head to Mount Toro to capture the stunning 17th century Sanctuary of the Mare de Deu del Toro.

In Menorca, you'll find the popular resorts of Santo Tomas, Son Bou, Ciutadella and Cala'n Bosch, which each have their own unique characteristics so there's definitely a resort for everyone! A holiday in Menorca's south coastal resort of Santo Tomas is perfect if you want to relax by the beach. Surrounded by gorgeous dunes, you can leisurely stroll through the pretty promenade and find a chic bar or restaurant to stop for a cheeky cocktail or a bite to eat. In Santo Tomas, there's also a fabulous choice of activities to do, including tennis and horse riding. Son Bou is a picturesque strip of golden sand and turquoise waters. Just imagine how good it would feel to kick off your shoes and dip your feet in the crystal-clear seas! Son Bou is very popular with families and friends who love activities like jet skiing and scuba diving as well as the entertaining nightlife. In the evening, you can explore the bustling bars and soak up the thrilling atmosphere.

Ciutadella stands out from the other Balearic holiday resorts. The former capital of Menorca, there are plenty of historic treasures to admire if you fancy embracing the local culture. Just don't forget your camera! In the evening, admire the Italian-style 17th century architecture as you follow the quaint cobbled streets to the harbour and enjoy the freshly-caught fish. Or, why not visit Mahon, the island's capital today. Then there's Cala‘n Bosch, a modern resort on the south-west coast of Menorca. An interesting way to see the resort is to hop on the leisurely mini train that runs around the resort and through the other districts. Bustling with lively bars and restaurants, Cala'n Bosch is also hugely popular with families and friends for its vast selection of activities, particularly beach watersports.

As well as the obvious sunbathing, holidays in Menorca are the ideal time to enjoy water sports, golf, sailing, tennis and horse riding. For a fun family day out, visit one of the island's popular water parks. If you can tear yourself away from the beautiful beaches, you'll find a good choice of excursions: Head to Mount Toro, with the 17th century Sanctuary of the Mare de Deu del Toro at its peak, or Mahon, the pretty island capital. There are Gothic churches, monuments, fortresses, prehistoric remains, smart harbours and Neolithic towns scattered around the island. For great seafood, visit the harbour town of Cuidadela or fishing village Fornells, or bag handcrafted leather goods and jewellery in market towns Alaior and Es Mercadal. There's plenty to keep sports enthusiasts, shopaholics, nature lovers and culture vultures happy on holiday in Menorca. Nightlife in Menorca is fairly low key. Many of the hotels have their own inhouse entertainment and you'll find a good selection of bars and pubs to enjoy in the larger resorts. For stylish wine bars and bars, head to the cities of Mahon and Ciutadella.

Freshly caught Mediterranean fish is a Menorcan speciality, as are traditional Spanish dishes. Still, in larger resorts, you'll find a good range of international restaurants, catering to plenty of tastes. Many hotels offer half board or all inclusive options, so you don't even need to leave your hotel for dinner.

Hi, not so much a question relating to menorca but was wondering if anyone could recommend a company for travel insurance to cover medical conditions.

I am asking for a friend who last year had a kidney transplant and is struggling getting cover.

Thank you in advance

Think it’s a case of going through internet for a specific type of insurance .there does appear to be some out there , just had a quick look . Worth a search

Thank you Margaret I will have a look and see what I can find.

i have just googled this

https://www.freespirittravelinsurance.com/medical-conditions/kidney-transplant/#:~:text=As%20specialists%20in%20travel%20insurance,will%20decline%20to%20offer%20cover.

"As specialists in travel insurance, Free Spirit covers a wide range of post-surgery conditions including kidney transplants."

https://www.kidney.org.uk/travel-insurance

Other options might include Global travel insurance, Explorer or Avanti .

Thank you everyone that's a great help, I appreciate it!

I am disabled and have cancer and always go through comparethemarket travel insurance with medical conditions and go with the best option. This year it's coming up as the Post office, £88 for the week with Covid cover.

Thank you Susanliang, I will pass this on also, thank you very much 😊

You are welcome.

My husband and I have several medical issues. We use an insurance broker, they always get us the best policy for our needs. They also seem to have access to policies not available online.
