In black, olive green, or dark blue, the jacket will be your go-to for travel. Keep in mind, it runs slightly big in order to allow for comfortable layering of hoodies or sweaters underneath. There's a reason why Oprah tapped it on her Favorite Things list .

Outfit Ideas for Traveling – 5 Outfit Formulas To Maximize Every Piece!

in Personal Style , Travel Style on 02/03/23

I know packing can be challenging. Trust me, I’ve always been an over packer until I had no choice but to learn how to pack when we started living on the road full time. I’ve been living out of a suitcase since September 2021, so believe me when I tell you that I know what works and what doesn’t. That’s exactly why I wanted to write this post and share some outfit ideas for traveling and useful outfit formulas to help you create your own version of any of these looks with pieces you probably already have in your closet!

Of course a lot of these following outfits don’t work for all kinds of weather, but I do hope to at least provide inspiration and value on how to think about how to create your own outfit ideas for traveling . And also know that you can apply any of these tips to your every day life too!

Ready to learn how to create your own outfit ideas for traveling? Let’s do it!

How to start thinking about your own outfit ideas for traveling, outfit formula #1: any button down shirt + dress + sneakers or flat sandals, outfit formula #2: button down shirt + bottom piece of your choice + sneakers (or flat sandals), outfit formula #3: keep it simple t-shirt + pants or midi skirt + sneakers or sandals (accessorize accordingly), outfit formula #4: a t-shirt dress + sneakers or sandals (that’s it), outfit formula #5: t-shirt or cami + long cardigan + pants + sneakers, bonus tip: pack your denim jacket, tips to help you pack better:, related travel style and capsule wardrobe posts you may also like:.

Estimated reading time: 15 minutes

First things first; think about your destination.

Weather, season, what type of activities you’ll be doing, what type of clothes you’re comfortable with, etc. Then you add to the mix your own personal style and how much space you have in your suitcase. I always recommend packing light . Travel days are hard as they are already, so why add a heavy suitcase(s) to the mix? Especially if you are not going to wear a lot of these things! That’s why it’s good to create your own outfit ideas for traveling way in advance.

I love writing about seasonal capsule wardrobes and about minimalism in general, but a couple of weeks ago I wrote a post with a 7-piece capsule wardrobe checklist that I really think you can find useful if you don’t know where to start!

There are 7 pieces I bring with me all the time and you will see them a lot in the upcoming photos styled in many different ways. Those pieces are:

  • A linen white button down shirt | Another GREAT linen option
  • A white T-shirt | (Best T-shirts and basic pieces in general are from this brand)
  • Leather White Sneakers (best sustainable sneakers without a doubt. Me and my husband both have these!). The problem with these is that you have to pre-order them. If you don’t like leather ones, here’s the link to the white canvas ones and I also like this brand a lot! (look for the Royale style)
  • A plain midi skirt (mine is sold out but this is where I usually get my skirts )
  • Wide leg pants ( comfiest and best fitting pants are from here )
  • Black Comfy Pants ( these are the best pants in the world!)
  • A plain crewneck sweater | My favorite sustainable sweaters are from this brand! It’s expensive but worth it, BUT this brand is also sustainable, fits well and it’s more affordable.

Outfit Ideas for Traveling by Ways of Style

Outfit Formulas To Help You Create Your Own Travel Looks

Here are five outfit formulas I follow for most of my travel outfits . We just got back from spending 3 months in Turkey and I only brought one medium suitcase and didn’t buy anything.

So, I went back and looked at all the outfits I wore in Turkey for the past 3 months and that’s why I decided to write this post with the most basic (but still cute and stylish) outfit ideas for traveling . Because I noticed I really don’t have that many outfit formulas… I always follow the same rules but with different pieces and I was able to create over 60 different outfits in 3 months (without buying a single thing!). But more on that in the next blog post :)

So, without further ado, here are my top 5 fool-proof outfit formulas for creating cute travel outfits all the time:

I always have 2 or 3 button shirts with me. I packed 3 for our recent Turkey trip; one green one, one white linen one and a chambray one. Button down shirts are your best friends when traveling! And this applies no matter where you go and for your every day life. They are so useful!

You can tie them around your waist, wear them as a beach cover up, layer them in many different ways and so much more! Here are some outfit ideas for traveling with a button down shirt following the outfit formula above. It’s simple, you only need the shirt, a dress and sneakers or flat sandals depending on the occasion.

Here’s how it looks like:

Cute Outfit Ideas for Traveling with a button down shirt

Check out this post “Capsule Wardrobe Checklist” for more ways I styled the same white button down shirt following the same outfit formula.

Again with the button down shirt , yes! They are that good!

This time I want to inspire you to style it with any bottom piece of your choice. Really, it can be a skirt, pants, shorts, jeans… Anything! I am really passionate about showing all the different ways you can style a basic piece like this one! Can you see why I travel with 3 different button down shirts?

Here you have 3 examples:

Cute Outfit Ideas for Traveling with a button down shirt

I never travel without at least one white and one black T-shirt. Actually, I always travel with at least 3 different white t-shirts . They are so versatile!

I know you may think they are not the most practical because they are white, but I still insist, they are great for traveling and they make it so easy to create your own outfit ideas for traveling!

You can style them casually yes, but you can also dress them up with a jacket or the right accessories. Never underestimate the power of a good T-shirt!!

Outfit Ideas for Traveling with a White T-shirt

This is my favorite brand for T-shirts and basic pieces in general. They are excellent quality and not too expensive. Plus, they are sustainable too!

This is my way of saying that you need a T-shirt dress in your life! Something simple, good quality and not too crazy. I originally was going to get a black one, but went for this green option last minute and I’m so glad I did!

It’s so easy to style. I wore it to go out with sandals and a denim jacket , for easy hikes with my favorite travel birkenstocks and with white sneakers for an easy breezy, yet cute look! (browse the best sustainable sneakers here!)

Easy and Cute Outfit Ideas for Traveling with a T-shirt dress

This is another solid outfit formula that you can use to explore a new city and it’s also great for travel days!

Our trip started super warm, but as we headed east and then north, it got a lot colder so I had to get creative with the layers. I wish I had packed more sweaters/long cardigans honestly, but they take so much space out of my suitcase. That’s why I only packed a few. But hey, I was able to create enough cute travel outfits.

Here are two looks following the outfit formula above:

Cute Outfit Ideas for Traveling with a long cardigan

Best sustainable long cardigans and sweaters are from this brand! They are an investment, but so so worth it!

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know how much I love denim jackets!

I only have one and I bring it everywhere with me! Why? Because you can pretty much add it over any look. It’s an easy way to look stylish and well put together. Denim jackets go with everything! I recommend having a medium washed one like this one.

Cute Outfit Ideas for Traveling with a denim jacket

  • Use compressible packing cubes! These are my favorite because they are compressible so they do help you save a ton of space and keep your suitcase organized. This is how I organize them: tops, bottoms, sweaters (if applies), workout clothes, beach stuff, underwear and dresses. These are the ones I have and I love them so much!!! Plus, the company who makes them is owned by other travel bloggers, so we love to support them in any way we can :)
  • Never underestimate the power of an all-black outfit! I made it a point to pack same colored tops and bottoms. It doesn’t have to be always black, but black is so easy! I will try a different color for our next adventure, to share with you more ways on how you can do this too! Here are a couple of examples with black:

travel tips for style

  • This one might be obvious, but make sure your top and bottoms have colors in common. For example, I packed 2 black bottoms, so I made sure some of my tops were black or at least had some black. This way you can really maximize what’s in your suitcase by mixing & matching. When you pack a lot of neutrals and just a few prints, it makes it so much easier to put pieces together! Here are some ways I pair my printed bottoms with striped pieces or simply with a black top. It’s very important to remember to pack prints that work well together with each other.

travel tips for style

  • Before you put anything in your suitcase, make sure you can style every piece in at least in 3-4 different ways. I like to organize everything in piles and look around at all the other pieces I’m packing to see if they work well together. If I see something I can only style once, then I don’t pack it. This is specially useful with shoes! You’ll be surprised with how much you can edit out of your suitcase by doing this before you put everything in. And you will save so much space!
  • Pick 3-4 main colors. The colors I choose for this Turkey trip were: Black, white and green. Then you add a couple of grays, denim pieces, prints and cute accessories like headbands, hats and earrings and you can pretty much mix and match all the pieces together!! For my next trip I’m going to try and pick different colors to spice things up a little bit and show you guys, so stay tuned :)

Fashion + Travel: How to Look Stylish While Traveling

Home » Blog » Travel » Fashion + Travel: How to Look Stylish While Traveling

Just because you’re living out of a suitcase doesn’t mean you have to lose your sense of style. Fashion enthusiast, Lisa Dauwalter, tells us how she manages to look trendy while traveling.

How to Look Stylish While Traveling

By Guest Author: Lisa Terese

When it comes to clothes, I’m pretty low maintenance – especially while traveling. Living out of a backpack makes it nearly impossible to look trendy every day, but I want to look a little less like I chose my outfit based on which articles stink the least (even if that is the case sometimes).

Lisa Terese has vowed to one year of no shopping, but still puts together killer outfits! Plus, Lauren Conrad called out her fashion blog, Lucid and Blue, which I think that makes her a full-fledged expert. Just like me, Lisa loves to travel, so I picked her brain about her go-to items and tips for looking put together, even if I’m carrying my closet on my back.

*All photos provided by Lisa.

1. What is one article of clothing you never travel without?

How to Look Stylish While Traveling

A wrinkle-resistant black dress. They exist in tens of thousands, in every style, for every body type. Go out and find yours! The key is something with a bit of stretch, which will keep it’s shape and keep wrinkles at bay. When I pack a black dress, I feel confident knowing that no matter where travel might turn, I will have something to wear that works – day, night, cocktails, you name it. I hoard black dresses; whenever I find a good one, I buy it.

2. Packing shoes is tricky because they’re often bulky. What 3 shoes would you bring on a long trip and why?

Exact styles will depend on weather and climate, but these three general categories will hit all your needs:

A wedge or stacked heel for night.  If you get stuck walking farther than expected (and you always do) you are in a shoe that is a bit more practical and way more comfortable than a skinny heel. Depending on the weather, you could do a wedge or stacked sandal, bootie (peep toe or closed toe), or even a boot! And, it goes without saying, pick a pair that will go with your (above) black dress. Easy!

Stylish athletic shoe. Great news for travelers: The whole athleisure trend is so strong right now, and will keep you comfy. For travel and exploring days, I always grab pair of Nike Free shoes. They’re not my usual running shoe, but they’re so sleek, lightweight, and come in fun patterns and colors – plus, they will work if you need to squeeze in a workout.

Supportive casual shoe.  Keyword: Supportive. Aka, not flats. I don’t know about you, but I cannot walk around in flats all day. These tend to be my most investment-heavy shoes, and I wear the heck out of them. Look for something with stability and support, but still fairly lightweight. Something you can walk in, and look great in. Like I said… Investment. Depending on the weather this might be a Birkenstock or a flat tall boot/bootie.

3. What is your go-to “plane outfit”?

How to look stylish while traveling

I always envy those girls in airports looking great in heels. But they also look ridiculous. I tried it once. Ridiculous.

If we are building outfits off the 3 shoe styles above, I will usually do the athleisure look with sneakers, but occasionally, if I know we have somewhere to be straight off the plane, I will wear a supportive casual shoe with denim. Here’s how these 2 options usually break out for me:

Sneaker: Yoga pants or crops, with a tank, and a couple different layers. Layers are so key: My temp is all over the map on travel days. The plane is cold, and then you sweat trying to make your connection. For layers, I usually do a lightweight long sleeve, and a cropped jacket or long cardigan.

Supportive casual shoe: Skinny jeans (with stretch!), with a tunic-length top, and a cropped jacket. The tunic length is good, because it covers any bagging-out your denim might have done on the flight, and keeps the look streamlined and polished. If we are headed out right from the airport, I will swap my shoes for heels in transit. Simple.

For both options, I always do a cross-body bag for hands-free ease. And, I know most people recommend scarves, but frankly, I have a hard time keeping track of one more thing, and I’m kind of germ-phobic about where it might accidentally fall or brush.

4. What are your favorite accessories that have multiple functions?

I’m not a big accessories person in general; I like simple sterling, gold and turquoise basics that work with most everything I wear. I’m also a little afraid of accidentally leaving something small and special behind, so I tend to travel with minimal-to-no jewelry. I like to buy jewelry wherever I visit, as a way to bring a piece of that place back home with me, so usually I’ll wear what I buy.

But when I do pack it, I go for something sturdy, statement-making, and cross-functional like a chunky hammered silver bracelet, or a long beaded necklace.

Aside from jewelry, in cold climates scarves are a great way to re-wear clothes while making the whole look new. For bags, I primarily use the cross-body I brought on the plane, and throw in a clutch for night.

5. If you could travel anywhere in the world and purchase an accessory or clothing item, what would it be? (For example, a leather jacket in Argentina, or a hand-woven scarf in Morocco.)

I really should pick something far away and exotic here, but I have to say, I would travel to the American Southwest and buy a giant vintage turquoise squash blossom necklace. I have been dreaming of getting my hands on one for years, and haven’t yet committed to throwing down the cash. If I lived in my hypothetical dream land and already owned one, I would board a plane to Italy and buy the best boots I could find. My love for boots borders on obsession.

6. Imagine you will be traveling through all climates and are only bringing a backpack. What is your strategy for being prepared for all weather while keeping your bag light?

Well, I can tell you one thing: We are not bringing zip-off camping pants, no matter how practical they might be. I am assuming I’ll be carrying all of this, so here’s the breakdown:

1.     Running skirt – to wear on hot active days, and to dress up with a tank at night (no really, I’ve done this before).

2.     J.Crew Pixie Pant  – The most-worn item in my closet, these leggings transition well day to night, and hold their shape between washings.

3.     Wrinkle-free black dress  – as outlined above in question 1.

4.     2 tank tops  in a technical/easily washable fabric

5.     2 t-shirts  in a technical/easily washable fabric

6.     A long cardigan  – 100% wool holds up best

7.     A cropped jacket  – I like a denim moto style

8.     A down vest  – packs small and keeps your core warm when you need it

9.     Sneakers/stylish athletic shoe

10.   Supportive short flat booties

These are the things I couldn’t live without. They could really be mixed and matched in an astonishing number of combinations. I know this for a fact, because of #1yearNoShopping! In addition to this list, I would reserve some cash to buy what I need where I need it (like a pair of sandals, or a rain jacket) and then leave it with a friend or donate it to a stranger when I moved on.

5 Tips for Finding Your Travel Style

By Jennifer Dombrowski 8 Comments

There’s no right or wrong way to travel, but there is a right or wrong way to travel for you . It took us nearly two years of pretty frequent travel to discover the way we most enjoy getting to know the places we visit. Once we found our travel style we started to see the world in a whole new light.

Finding your travel style

Early on when we started travel blogging it was like we were speed dating with Europe’s must sees. We were racing against a clock to see as many places as we could possibly see. If Ryanair had a sale, we’d book a ticket and just go wander around a city. We were traveling to 20 – 25 countries each year, but those first two years were pockmarked by unremarkable experiences in places that were no more than check marks on a list.

You know what? We actually hate just wandering aimlessly around cities. We love travel, but something was lacking. We needed a way to connect with what we were seeing so that it stopped feeling like we wanted to kill ourselves if we looked at one more church the guidebooks said we just HAD to see.

Berlin Trabi Safari

Our own travel style is a mixture of luxury and adventure and almost always includes wine. Once we started choosing destinations based on activities that interested us there, travel was suddenly exciting again. The stamps in our passports stopped being just another stamp and each had a story so memorable we can recall every detail like it happened yesterday.

Travel isn’t one size fits all, so we put together these tips for finding your travel style:

Caving beneath Budapest

1. Think of travel like dating.

You didn’t just marry the first hot young thing. Well, maybe you did… but realistically it takes most of us quite a few dates to figure out the type of companion that best compliments our personality.

Travel is no different. You have to get out there and do it to figure out how you like to travel. Finding your travel style is just like dating; you’ll try out a lot of different things until you find the best travel fit for you.

You might discover that you really like the convenience of cruising. Or you might discover you want to throw yourself overboard and cruising just isn’t your cup of tea. You might find you love traveling through food with cooking classes and food tours. Or you might beeline for the nearest Hard Rock Cafe no matter where you go.

We had a first date with Budapest back in 2009. We eased our way in on that first trip with seeing the usual sights, but we did it on a segway . Tim will never let me live it down that I managed to run my segway into a wall and break it, and then kill our guide’s too. But it’s a funny story that always makes us smile. And we went back for a few more dates, getting way off the beaten path with things like caving beneath Budapest and wine tasting in a secret cave on the Buda Hill.

The thing is that you never know what’s right for you until you get out there and give things a try.

Paris, France

2. Don’t just do what the guidebooks tell you to do.

I know this is like shooting myself in the foot since our entire business is built on influencing the travel decisions of our readers, but don’t just do something or see something because someone tells you that you should.

It’s perfectly okay to go to Paris and not fight the crowds to see the postage stamp sized Mona Lisa. It’s not a crime to go to Rome and not see the Sistine Chapel. And you won’t die because you went to Barcelona and didn’t trek out to Gaudi’s unfinished Sagrada Familia.

When you do a little research you can do things like learn to make macarons in Paris , blend your own Cognac or climb a volcano . No matter what your itinerary includes, you should do and see what you want because it’s something you’ll really enjoy doing.

3. Find a travel blog that fits your personality.

Guidebooks are great for reading up on a destination, being in the know about the main sights and learning their history. Let’s be honest though. No guide book author is ever going to answer your questions.

But professional travel blogs are new media with accessible and social travel experts who love to interact with you. When you find the right blog or blogs to follow, you can identify with the blogger’s personality and travel style for trip ideas. Then follow in their footsteps because they’ve already done the research for you.

No matter how you like to travel, there is a blogger out there traveling just the way you want to. If you’re super in to traveling through food, Rachelle at The Travel Bite is a major foodie and coffee aficionado. Want to travel like royalty? Leah at Leah Travels finds the most decadent ways of traveling you never dreamed possible. Into cultural travel? Becki at Borders of Adventure sleuths out the stories of the people no matter where she goes. Want to travel more eco-friendly? Bret and Mary have you covered at Green Global Travel .

Of course, if you like mixing wine, adventure and luxury then you’re in the right place! We make it super easy to follow in our footsteps with our series of travel itineraries .

I could go on for days listing my fellow blogging colleagues and how they travel. The point is, with all the blogs out there these days that there’s undoubtedly one that fits your personality.

Alta Badia Wine Ski Safari

4. You don’t have to hop on a plane halfway around the world to find your travel style.

No, really. Go attend a festival you’ve never been to, go on a hike you’ve never done, take a local cooking class or try that new restaurant that just opened. We’d bet that there are plenty of things right in your own backyard you have yet to discover, even if you’ve lived there your entire life.

We lived in Italy for seven years and in Bordeaux for three years now, and we’ve far from seen it all. Tim took up skiing and I’m still taking the occasional lesson to try learn to snowboard. We’ve hiked , cross-country skied and visited countless festivals and wineries all within a few hours of our house. Travel doesn’t always have to be about getting on a plane; a new adventure waits just outside your door.

You might discover a new hobby or interest you never knew you had. And when you travel farther afield, you can seek out similar experiences that you’re certain you’ll enjoy.

Bagan, Myanmar

5. Always make sure your travels make the best memories.

The pages of your passport should be the best book on your shelf. It’s great if that book is a riveting action-packed adventure. It’s also okay if that book is rated G and suitable for all ages. It’s okay because it’s your book.

At the end of the day, the traveler vs. tourist debate is just stupid. And no one can tell you that you did it wrong because you didn’t try the fried crickets at the night market in Thailand or because you opted not to go to the top of the Empire State Building with a thousand of your closest friends. Your travels are just that – yours and yours alone. So long as you go home with memories that will last you a lifetime, it doesn’t matter if you travel budget or luxury, solo or with friends, or independently or on a guided tour.

Thanks so much! Really, what’s the point if you’re not enjoying it? Every destination can be tailored to your own unique personality.

Jesus this is a great post. 11 months until I sell it all and hit the road. so it is bookmarked for future reference! A lot to think about. Thanks for writing it.

This is great. I think the best way to find your travel style is to just go out and travel. Eventually you’ll figure out the kind of travel you want to do. Also I don’t think anyone should ever feel like they can’t change their travel style. if something doesn’t work for you then change it.

January 16, 2016 at 9:34 AM

You’re right, Alouise. Our travel style needs to evolve as we change. What might be right for us in our 20s could entirely change in our 30s, and so on. And that’s perfectly okay too! It’s just part of life and aging.

I think I am every kind of traveller! Or at least I want to be. Great post, thanks for sharing. It just makes me want to get up and go see the world!

How To Travel Chic: 10 Tips For Traveling In Style

How To Travel Chic: 10 Tips For Traveling In Style

If you are a traveling chic travel in style, the whole travel experience could be super exciting or it could be stressful too. If you’re looking for tips on how to prepare for your next trip, look no further! We’ve got some great advice to make your trip more accessible and enjoyable. In this article, we’ll cover everything from packing light items so they aren’t bulky or heavy to using the bathroom sink instead of an actual toilet (yes). So read on as we give you 10 tips for traveling chic travel in style:

Table of Contents

1. Pack Lightweight items

Pack lightweight items

The most important thing to remember when packing is that you don’t need a lot of stuff. That’s not to say you shouldn’t bring anything at all, but if you’re traveling with friends or family, having too much stuff will make it harder for everyone to fit in the car.

Here are some ways to pack light:

Use a lightweight travel backpack instead of a suitcase. This saves space and weight (and makes it easier for others who aren’t carrying their own suitcases). It also looks more professional than lugging around giant duffel bags through airports!

Use a small carry-on suitcase instead of one large one. If possible, try getting whichever size is usually recommended by airlines—they’ll usually be cheaper as well, so there’s no reason not to do this! Plus, they’ll allow more room if needed later on down the road when buying souvenirs along the way (which we recommend doing!).

2. Wear Comfortable Shoes

Wear comfortable shoes while traveling

When you’re traveling in style, it’s essential to wear comfortable shoes. It would help if you took your shoes off at the airport and put them in a bag before going through security. This way, if there’s any chance of having them checked as luggage, they will be safe from damage or theft.

If you haven’t already worn flip-flops on vacation before (or even if you have), now is the time to get started! Flip flops are an easy way to transition from casual daywear into a more formal dress when traveling abroad—and they can easily be thrown into your carry-on bag for those rainy days when raincoats aren’t enough protection against the elements.

3. Roll Clothes

Roll Clothes while traveling

Rolling your clothes is the best way to avoid creases in your clothes, and it’s also better for the environment. Instead of folding your clothes neatly, roll them instead.

Bring a rolling suitcase with you on all your trips. It will make packing much more accessible!

To roll up a shirt or pair of pants, start by folding them half lengthwise along their selvages and then roll up until they’re compact enough that they won’t wrinkle when you unroll them later (this can take some practice). Then secure each end with an elastic band or tape so that no part of your garment gets exposed when traveling through security scanners at airports!

4. Wear Accessories

Wear accessories

Travel Accessories are the easiest way to add a pop of color, texture, and personality to your outfit. We’ve got some great ideas for you:

Earrings: Wear statement pieces in fun shapes or colors—or go with neutral pairs if you want something more subtle.

Necklace: If you’re wearing a scarf around your neck (like we always do), choose one that complements the theme of your outfit! For example, a necklace with snowflakes is perfect if it’s wintertime and cold outside. Or maybe when summertime rolls around again next year, try wearing an umbrella charm instead? It’ll match everything else in the room perfectly!

Bracelet/watch/hat/scarf combo (if applicable): You can never go wrong with adding accessories like these since they’ll help elevate any look from boring into glamorous and you will become a traveling chic travel in style as well.

5. Use the bathroom sink to do your hair and makeup.

If you have a mirror, bring it. It’s always good to have one around, and if you don’t have one in your hotel room, buy one on Amazon or at Bed Bath & Beyond (my favorite store). Remember: no matter where you are, always bring a comb! You never know when someone might want to borrow or even steal it!

Makeup brushes are also super important when traveling. I like to pack my own because they travel better than disposable ones, but if they aren’t an option, then stick with those provided by hotels and hostels.

If there isn’t any available at the time of check-in or check-out, then ask if there is any way that can be arranged, such as leaving some money behind so they can purchase them later when needed most (this usually works). Another good tip is not forgetting toothbrushes; we all know how important this little thing can be, especially during long flights when our bodies need some TLC!

6. Invest in an Excellent Carry-on Bag

Invest in an excellent carry-on bag

A good carry-on bag is essential if you’re a traveling chic travel in style. The right bag will help keep your belongings organized and protected while ensuring they don’t get damaged during transport.

A good carry-on bag should have plenty of pockets and compartments, making it easy to separate items based on what needs to go where. It should also be lightweight so that it doesn’t add too much weight or bulk when carried around all day (which can lead to sore legs). And finally, if possible, look for a bag with multiple straps so that it’s easier for someone else (like a flight attendant) to load up when needed!

7. Keep a Kit in Your Carry-on bag

Keep a travel first aid kit in your carry-on bag to ensure you’re prepared for any situation. It’s important to have some essential medicines, pain relievers on hand, bandages, and other supplies like sunscreen and bug spray. You’ll also want to pack some toiletries like toothpaste, face wipes, hand sanitizer, and deodorant so you can freshen up at hotels or airports.

8. Carry an Empty Water Bottle

Carry an Empty Water Bottle

Bring an empty water bottle on the plane to keep your hydration in check. Fill it up from the bathroom sink and return it when you land. You can also use this method for other liquids, like soft drinks or juice; make sure that whatever is inside the bottle doesn’t spill once you take it off its original packaging (including those little plastic bubbles).

If you’re traveling with kids or prone to getting sick while flying, consider bringing along some toys so they have something fun to do during takeoff and landing. There are plenty of options out there: check out our article here!

9. Lay out what you need on the floor and packing it up

This is a great way to make packing easier. Instead of going into the suitcase with your clothes already in the bag, lay them out on the floor and then put them in there from there. This will allow you to see what you have so that when it’s time for one thing or another, you’ll know where everything is supposed to go. It also prevents items from rolling around during transit, which can be very annoying!

You should also consider using an app like En Route Traveler ($2) or Suitcase Tracker ($5) if these tips don’t work for you—they’re both apps designed specifically for travelers who need help organizing their belongings before they travel abroad!

10. Don’t Forget to Bring a Pen

Don't Forget to Bring a Pen

You never know when you’ll need it for filling out forms or writing down information.

If you’re traveling with your partner, one of you can pack the suitcases and keep an eye on them while the other gets ready or waits in line. If your partner is traveling solo, it’s up to each person how they want to handle this part of their trip—either one person packs all of their belongings while the other watches over them or vice versa!

Invest in an excellent carry-on bag that will fit everything that needs to be packed into it comfortably without making any extra weight in luggage (or even worse: getting overweight).

With our traveling chic travel in style tips, you’ll be able to travel chic and enjoy every aspect of your trip in luxury style. You don’t have to worry about packing too much or not having enough stuff because we’ve got all the information for you. So take our travel advice and make sure your trip will be full of luxury style—and don’t forget that if you need anything else, there’s always Google!

Travel Style Tips: How to Always Look Fashion Ready Even When Traveling

Travel Style Tips: How to Always Look Fashion Ready Even When Traveling

Travelling is an exhilarating adventure, an opportunity to explore new cultures, savor exotic cuisines, and create unforgettable memories. But just because you’re on the go doesn’t mean you have to compromise on your style. With a few smart choices and fashion-forward decisions, you can effortlessly look your best, no matter where your travels take you.

Corset Tops for Travel Chic

When it comes to travel fashion, it’s all about finding the right balance between comfort and style. A corset bikini top is a perfect choice for this purpose. These aren’t the historical or lingerie corsets of the past but rather contemporary, everyday tops that can elevate your look instantly. A corset top can be effortlessly paired with jeans, skirts, or shorts for a chic and fashionable appearance.

These tops are not only versatile but also incredibly comfortable for a day of exploring a new city or lounging by the beach. Opt for a corset top in a lightweight fabric like cotton or linen for breathability during hot summer travels, or choose a velvet or silk option for a touch of luxury during colder seasons. You’ll feel confident and fashion-forward while wandering the streets of your destination.

Pack Mix-and-Match Wardrobe Staples

One of the best travel style tips is to pack a versatile, mix-and-match wardrobe. By selecting clothing items that can be paired in various combinations, you’ll maximize your outfit options while minimizing the amount of clothing you need to bring. A few basic pieces like neutral-coloured tops, classic jeans, and a versatile jacket can be mixed and matched to create different looks throughout your trip.

Travel Style Tips: How to Always Look Fashion Ready Even When Traveling

Invest in Comfortable Footwear

Your choice of footwear can make or break your travel experience. While stylish shoes are essential, comfort should always be a top priority. Invest in comfortable and supportive footwear, such as sneakers, loafers, or sandals with cushioned soles, to keep your feet happy during long walks and exploration. You can find stylish options that provide both comfort and fashion, ensuring you look great while staying comfortable.

Accessorize to Elevate Your Look

Accessories can transform a simple outfit into a fashion statement. Packing a few key accessories can add variety to your travel wardrobe without taking up much space. Consider bringing statement jewellery, scarves, or hats that can be mixed and matched with your outfits to create different looks. These small additions can make a big difference in your overall appearance.

Opt for Wrinkle-Resistant Fabrics

Travelling often involves spending time in transit, which can leave your clothes looking less than perfect. To combat wrinkles and maintain a polished appearance, choose clothing made from wrinkle-resistant fabrics like polyester, jersey, or knits. These materials are less prone to creasing and can help you stay fashion-ready even after a long journey.

Layer Wisely for Changing Weather

Depending on your destination, weather conditions can vary greatly throughout the day. To prepare for these changes without sacrificing style, pack versatile layers. A lightweight cardigan or a stylish jacket can be added or removed as needed, allowing you to adapt to changing temperatures while looking chic.

Travel-Friendly Hair and Makeup

When it comes to hair and makeup, simplicity is key for travel. Opt for low-maintenance hairstyles that can withstand a day of sightseeing, such as braids, buns, or natural waves. For makeup, stick to the essentials like a tinted moisturizer, mascara, and versatile lip colour. Travel-friendly beauty products like mini-sized items or multi-purpose products can save space in your luggage while keeping you looking fresh.

Choose Versatile Swimwear

If your travel plans include beach destinations or poolside relaxation, versatile swimwear is a must. Consider investing in a corset bikini top, which not only combines fashion and comfort but can also double as a stylish crop top when paired with high-waisted shorts or a flowy skirt. This versatile piece allows you to effortlessly transition from the beach to a casual lunch or explore the local markets without having to change outfits.

Pack a Stylish Backpack

Practicality meets fashion with a stylish backpack. Opt for a backpack that complements your travel style and can carry your essentials comfortably. Look for one with multiple compartments to keep your belongings organized and secure. A chic backpack can be a trendy addition to your outfit while providing functionality for carrying your travel essentials.

Confidence is Your Best Accessory

Above all, remember that confidence is the best accessory you can wear. Embrace your personal style and wear outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable. When you feel good about yourself, your fashion choices naturally shine through, and you’ll look effortlessly stylish no matter where your travels take you.

In conclusion, travelling doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style for comfort. By incorporating these travel style tips into your packing and outfit choices, you can always look fashion-ready on your adventures . From corset tops to versatile swimwear and comfortable footwear, the key is to balance fashion with practicality and confidence. So, pack your bags, explore the world, and do it in style!

Travel with style: Tips for dressing, sight-seeing and more

Stylish men on vacation

Travelling in style seems like it should be easy, yet we’ve all had at least one “vacation” that was left decidedly unstylish (and uncomfortable) by a nightmare of extra luggage fees, last-minute shopping or truly bad restaurant experiences. To ensure your next vacation is both stylish and smoothly planned, consider these tips for streamlined packing, stress-free shopping, and enjoying the local atmosphere of your destination.

The Pros and Cons of Packing a Single Bag

Travel with style carrying a single bag may seem impossible, simply based on your itinerary and the variety of activities you have laid out: a semi-formal evening dinner one day, poolside activities another, and a hiking excursion on another day. If you have a wide variety of activities on your travel list, it’s better to be honest with yourself about your packing needs and take that extra bag, rather than find yourself missing something crucial while en route and be forced to pay extra for a replacement item that you probably won’t even need once you return home. You may also assume you can find an item while at your destination and come up empty-handed, which could cripple your plans.

That said, vacationing in style doesn’t necessarily mean packing two bags; there are probably quite a few items you can do without, even with a varied itinerary. At many destinations , you can rent the gear for adventure outings instead of packing it along, from swim gear to hiking boots and parkas and more. While gear rental charges can be high, you may be able to get a discount through your hotel, and they may be preferable to the expense and hassle of lugging heavy accessories on your trip, particularly if you plan on hitting multiple destinations in a short span of time and wish to minimize your airport hassle as much as possible. Call ahead and find out if this is an option so you’ll know just what you need to pack and what can be left at home.

How to Travel with a Single Carry-on?

Taking the above into consideration, many fashionable travelers have found that vacationing in style with no more than a carry-on is a perfectly attainable goal. Your travel experience will be certainly be much more enjoyable without the hassle and expense of checked luggage. There are some things that can make packing a carry-on easier and maximize your room.

First, plan your outfits from the shoes up. It’s easy to vacation in style with some smart outfit planning; you may be able to get away with a single pair of stylish shoes (such as a smart pair of brogues or leather drivers) for the entire trip, and wearing them on the plane frees up a great deal of luggage room. If you do pack a second pair of shoes, such as a pair of fancier dress shoes for an evening meal, pack them in the bottom of the bag and fill them with accessories (ties, jewelry, a scarf) to make the most of that space.

Likewise, you may only need one sport coat for the trip, and can wear it on the plane. In cooler months, lightweight cashmere or wool scarves and cardigans can add warmth without taking up too much room in your bag. Try to color-coordinate your clothing items so they can easily be mixed and matched, and pack thin layers to adjust to fluctuations in temperature as opposed to taking bulky sweaters or coats.

Travel with Style and Comfort

Men stylish travel

Vacation days can tempt you to look just a little too casual, but vacationing in style and comfort is possible. Chinos, colored slacks and tailored shorts are all great; cargo shorts or baggy denim pants are not. In warmer months, polos, lightweight button-downs and fitted t-shirts are presentable; baggy t-shirts, tank tops and anything with a slogan should be left to the gym. In cooler months, look for chambray shirts, cardigans and scarves to add warmth without bulk.

As for shoes , a nice pair of drivers or brogues can take you through most events; a very stylish pair of luxury sneakers is a good alternative for sportier vacations, while fashionable boots are good for colder months. A linen blazer or one made of a colorful cotton/wool blend is casual enough for vacation that it won’t look like office wear, but it will still pull together an outfit and make it clear you’re not letting yourself go just because you’re on holiday. You can also use it to easily transition from daytime to nighttime: wear a tailored pair of shorts or slacks, a button-down, a fedora and drivers during the day for touring activities; slip on the blazer and lose the hat at night, and you’re ready for drinks and dancing. If your vacation leans more toward the sporty/adventure side, you might swap the sport coat for a smart-looking leather bomber.

Finally, don’t forget to pack extras like a nice belt, a good watch, and a stylish yet rugged shoulder bag for day trips. You’ll probably be using these on the plane, so they won’t even take up room in your carry-on.

Vacation man 4

How to Deal with Souvenirs?

If you plan on shopping at your destination, you have a couple of options for taking your goods home. Some shoppers opt to have purchases shipped home, while other items can simply be packed in a carry-on. It’s wise to plan ahead and consider the type of items you’ll be purchasing; if they’re very bulky or too fragile to pack well in a duffel bag, you might be better off paying to have the item properly packed and shipped home. You’ll need to check with a local postal office for shipping policies and costs, and to be sure you have the proper packing materials needed to give your item a safe ride home.

If you choose to take your purchases home on the plane, you might want to pack a duffel in one of your main bags for holding holiday souvenirs, or purchase a bag at your destination. Remember that some items may not be permissible in a carry-on bag, so you’ll have to pay a checked baggage fee for your extra items. Small items of clothing and the like can probably be easily packed with your existing luggage, and as an added bonus, you can wear them at your destination, upping your vacation style quotient with a little local flair.

Vacation man 3

Planning Your Itinerary

Some vacations are all about the thrill of discovery, and there’s no set plan for each day; you simply enjoy each morning as it arrives and plan your entertainments as you find them. While these vacations are often relaxing and enjoyable , you may find yourself missing out on fun and interesting events if you don’t plan ahead. Even if you aren’t keen on crafting a formal day-by-day plan for your trip, do check up on local entertainment listings and schedules to see what’s up for offer during your stay. Not only will you be clued in to can’t-miss events, you may also learn of closures that could affect your plans—not something you want to discover at the last minute.

With that being said, beware of over-planning . Many tourists make the mistake of zealously overstuffing their schedules, only to burn out before the end of the trip. Allot no more than one or two scheduled excursions per day, and allow yourself plenty of time in between them in case of traffic or in case you have to return to your hotel for something (a change of clothes, minor first aid, etc.). Try to leave at least one unscheduled day at the end of your trip to simply relax before you head home. This will allow you time to mentally and physically unwind before the trip home and will prevent you from feeling too harried when you return home and have to jump back into your daily routine.

Vacation man 1

Hitting the Local Scene in Style

Vacationing in style doesn’t just mean dressing well; it also means you’re enjoying the best of what the local area has to offer. Your hotel is a great starting point for scoping out the best local hotspots for food and entertainment; it can also help provide the amenities of home that you need for a more comfortable stay. For example, many hotels offer on-site gym facilities for patrons, or they may be able to score you a deal on a day pass to a local gym; ask at the front desk. They can also point you to local deals for everything from restaurants to dry cleaning; a discreetly tipped concierge is a valuable source of information on where the locals prefer to do business, and may even be able to point you to some valuable discounts while in town.

Be sure to ask: where do the local residents dine, shop and play? Whether you’re traveling at home or abroad , well-worn tourist hotspots tend to be more expensive and don’t offer the same local flavor. Asking a local insider where they like to relax can lead you to hole-in-the-wall pubs and markets off the beaten path, where you’ll get to sample local fare and have a more immersive experience than if you simply stayed in the city center. You should also check online or in local publications for art shows, live music, restaurant reviews and more that might not be widely publicized through major tourist websites or brochures.

Hope you enjoyed these tips to travel with style!

Travel Outfits: How to Look Chic When You’re Flying

travel outfits

Listen—I’m all about rocking a cute travel outfit when I’m heading out of town…but I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing heels to the airport.

To be honest, I don’t even like wearing jeans on a plane (although I’ll occasionally make an exception if they’re REALLY comfortable jeans , or if my flight is under three hours.)

Usually you’ll find me rocking a head-to-toe set of my favorite affordable cashmere during the winter, and a lightweight loungewear set during the summer.

I often see pictures of bloggers at the airport posing next to their cute pink luggage wearing like…wedges and a mini-dress. HARD PASS. How is that even comfortable? When you’re en route to the airport (and your final destination) it’s all about feeling comfortable.

For this reason, I decided to put together a little guide to cute travel outfits…featuring things that you’ll actually want to travel in , whether you’re heading out for a winter getaway or a girls trip .

Because believe it or not, it’s possible to rock comfy loungewear, leggings, or a jumpsuit and still look SUPER chic, as long as you style them properly (especially my favorite faux leather leggings .)

Below are a handful of great travel outfits I found while trolling IG—and the exact things you can buy to replicate them.

(Also: if you’re also on the hunt for stylish carry-on luggage or if you need some good go-to travel toiletries…I got you covered.)

Chic Travel Outfits

Travel Outfits

Here, I’m sharing a handful of my go-to travel outfit pieces. These are all items that I think you should have in your closet regardless of how often you go on a getaway, but they just so happen to be particularly comfy choices when going on a plane.

These picks will of course depend on how long your flight is and where you’re headed, but overall, I think they’re practical for travel days.

The only caveat here is that I know a jumpsuit isn’t exactly ideal if you’re going on a long-haul flight—however—I personally don’t mind wearing them on planes because they’re so comfy and not really that difficult to slip in and out of when you need a bathroom break.

If jumpsuits aren’t your jam, there are plenty of other ideas in this post that should work for you, like a cute matching sweatsuit or leggings and a leather jacket. Without further ado, here are the staples I’d recommend having on hand for travel days.

PRAYRNA SINHA

This post gave me a more clear idea of what I will wear when travelling and I especially loved the part where you mentioned the all black and all white monochromatic looks .

' src=

I do not think I would wear white on a plane. No to the belly sticking out as well. I do like the stretchy pants and sneakers.

' src=

Why would anyone wear a jumpsuit on a plane? The toilets are used by hundreds of people, now you want to pull down the top part of your clothes and have it dangling somewhere near the toilet, while you’re sitting on a toilet that exposes the part that gets wee on when the seat is up? Eeu that’s all kind of germ wrong!! But I do love the little 3/4 joggers! Def looking for some of those for my next long haul (when this pandemic is over!)

Travel Hair Tips

Table of contents.

When you’re traveling, the last thing you want to do is spend two hours fixing your hair. You’ve got to make the most of every minute.

Truthfully, though, styled hair and fresh-faced makeup truly add the finishing touch to create a polished appearance to your travel outfit . That’s the real secret to chic style. It doesn’t matter how perfect your travel wardrobe looks if these other factors are missing.

Now this doesn’t mean that you need to bring your entire beauty cabinet on a trip, or start using hair tools if that’s not your thing. It’s just a reminder that you don’t need to skip your hair routine entirely, because you can just bring the essential items that enhance your features for a natural yet chic look.

The goal is to find the easiest hair solution that works for you. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Choose Essential Styling Tools

Don’t pack all your styling tools into your suitcase and never pack a full-size hair brush. Call your accommodation in advance to see if they offer a blow dryer. If not, look for a foldable travel hair dryer . Don’t forget about a mini brush and mini comb.

Unfortunately, mini flat irons aren’t as effective as travel blow dryers, especially if you have extremely curly hair. If needed, pack a slim 1-inch or smaller iron. Also, some flat irons can double up as curling irons like the one shown above. Give it a try! Read our tips on  how to style curly hair while traveling !

It’s important to note that hair styling products may not work in other countries. Look for items with dual voltage to be sure. Keep reading for more information about voltage and adapters.

Here’s a list of hair accessories you may want to consider for your trip (depending on your destination):

For bad hair days, these beauty hacks might help:

  • Bun – an easy way to hide dirty or disheveled hair
  • Ponytail – whether you tie it high or low, a ponytail can create a clean and chic appearance on a hot day
  • Bobby Pins – twist it, pin it, hold it down. Do what you have to do with these little wonders
  • Hats – add style and hide bad hair days. What’s not to love?
  • Dry Shampoo (or Baby Powder) – throw it on and shake it out when you’re on the go
  • Headbands – a thin, delicate style can transform you from blah to glam
  • Braids – learn how to create at least one braid look

Heatless Hairstyles

If you decide to leave your tools at home, these are some heatless hairstyle ideas:

  • For volume and waves, pack a few foam curlers  that you can wear overnight to set your hair. Remember, just pack a handful, not a whole set!
  • Do you use claw clips ? If so, after you wash your hair, clip it into a low bun while still wet. It will air dry to create natural looking waves. As a bonus, if you have frizzy curly hair, this method may also create smooth waves instead of tight curls. Add some styling product before tying it back.
  • Create an elegant up do with the sock bun method. Opt for a pre-made bun roller that weighs nothing and can be crammed into a small space if needed. If you leave your hair rolled in a bun for an extended period of time, it can also create volume and waves. Perfect for a day-to-night transition!
  • Similar to a sock bun, braids also result in waves and are a feminine way to style your hair. This style is great for an active trip because it’s feminine yet keeps your hair out of your face.

You can also find hair tutorials for just about anything on Pinterest . Search for short easy hairstyles or simple braid ideas. Alternatively, try out a new look!

Using Hair Styling Tools Abroad

One of the biggest questions about voltage arises from hair styling equipment.  Is it okay to use you hair dryer or flat iron in Europe?

The answer? Maybe.

Having the right voltage is crucial when you use electronics abroad including your hair tools. Because blow dryers and flat irons (straighteners) require a large amount of power, you need to look for products with  dual voltage  options.

Read our full explanation on how voltage works when you travel and which adapters/converters to use!

Need to find ways to dry your hair quickly? Try these  tips !

travel-hair-tips

T3 Singlepass

Dual voltage electronics have two voltage options: 110-120V and 220-240V.  They are ideal for travel because they are safe to use at home and abroad, too.

Some electronics, such as newer Macbooks and iPhones have dual voltage that automatically adjust in their destination. However, other electronics such as hair tools  you may need to adjust the voltage manually by moving a switch.

Voltage refers to electricity; different countries have different types of electricity. This means that your electronics are the same voltage as the country in which you bought them so if you take them to another country, they may not work. Visit  this  website for a full list of voltage by country.

For example, in the US we use 110-120V whereas in Europe they use 220-240V. If we plug our electronics into each other’s outlets they can blow a fuse and stop working. In some cases, they can even fry your hair.

Keep in mind that this does not always guarantee your hair styling tool will work as well abroad as it does at home, even with the dual voltage setting. Flat irons generally work well but hair dryers tend to experience more issues!

travel-hair-tips

Conair Ceramic Mini Curling Iron

To ensure you won’t have voltage problems, buy one there.

The ideal situation would be to pack a foldable travel blow dryer with dual voltage options like the ones shown above. However, this feature doesn’t always guarantee it won’t blow a fuse when you arrive ruining your dryer and possibly frying your hair. Sometimes it’s better to buy locally at the airport or drug store.

Dealing with changes in voltage can be concerning to some travelers especially if you’re headed to  Europe . To avoid voltage issues with travel blow dryers, it might be easiest to buy one upon arrival especially if you plan to spend an extended period of time in your destination.

Here are a couple lists of dual voltage hair tools:

Compass Rose International Travel Adapter  for products that are  dual voltage

Don’t Forget an Adapter (NOT a Converter)

It’s important to understand that an adaptor and converter are NOT the same thing. An adapter fits the outlets and a  converter  changes the electrical current.

Travel adapters don’t work well with hair tools that are not dual voltage. You need a converter for hair tools that are not dual voltage.

If your hair tool requires a converter ( it’s not dual voltage ) then it’s best to leave it at home, buy one that is dual voltage, or buy one at your destination. While there are some travel-friendly converters like this one, they’re usually only good for products up to 50 watts (hair tools are higher than this).

Note: if you decide to try to use a converter abroad you’ll also need an adapter so you can plug it into the local outlets! (See below)

travel-hair-tips

Travel Converter  for products that are not dual voltage

If your hair tool is dual voltage, then you do not need a converter . What you will need for your hair tools and all electronics is an adapter, which allows your devices to plug into various outlets abroad.

If you’re traveling to several countries during your trip, or if you are a frequent flyer, you may want to use a universal travel adaptor like this one.

However, if you only have one stop on your trip, just pack an individual adapter for that country’s plug type. Visit this power outlet guide for travelers to see a full list of plugs and outlets by country.

Remember, an adaptor does not convert voltage, it just allows you to plug your electronics into the local outlet. Always check the voltage for all your electronics. Learn more here!

Travel Hair Care

Aside from styling your hair, one of the other challenges when trying to pack light is limiting toiletries. But how do you limit shampoo when you can easily use up an entire travel size bottle in one shower?

Unless you are absolutely married to your hair shampoo, this is the one place where you can easily save space as many hotels and even some Airbnbs offer shampoo as part of their amenities.

If you’re traveling for an extended period of time, purchase shampoo as you go and if you’re traveling for a weekend, take a travel size bottle. You can also decant your favorite shampoo into a reusable bottle like this.

Lush Godiva Solid Shampoo Bar

A popular option for female travelers is to travel with a solid shampoo bar . They’re great if you’re traveling for a long time because they can last up to 50 washes. As a bonus, they’re also handy if you want to eliminate liquids.

Unfortunately, there aren’t that many solid conditioners . A few ideas to downsize your products are to use a 2-in-1 shampoo conditioner or opt for a multi-use product such as coconut oil. You can use natural oils for a variety of things from hair care to skincare. Learn more!

Promising review: "The pocket in front is very handy. It feels like I'm wearing nothing. The overalls are light and flow-y. The fabric quality could be better — it may not last long, but it's inexpensive. I get so many compliments when I wear them. I wore them for plane travel and on the beach in Maui and Mexico and were perfect for all. Would I purchase again? Hell yeah. Size down possibly; they are slightly large." — Jamie Pauluk

reviewer wearing the jumpsuit in black

Promising review : "I absolutely love this romper. The stretch is amazing! I originally ordered a large based on reviews and it was way too big so I decided to order the medium and even that was big so I decided to order one more time and did the small and that fit perfectly! This romper is sooo comfy, perfect for traveling, running errands or just lounging in. " — Yvonne

Get it from Amazon for $29.99 (available in sizes S–XXL and in 18 colors/prints).

Promising review : "I got so many compliments when wearing this set on vacation in Hawaii! The top is very comfortable and cropped at just the right length. The shorts were a little see through, but for the price, they were very comfortable." — Courtney Smith

Get it from Amazon for $32.99 (available in sizes XS–XL and in 13 colors/patterns).

8. An  abstract-print bodycon midi  for a show-stopping look that will require you to post at least one picture in it with an epic background of your travels. I can already see all the likes and comments rolling in asking where you got this beauty of a dress.

Woman in a green cardigan, black top, and black trousers, smiling with hand in hair. Ideal for a casual style article

Promising review: "I wore them for five hours of travel plus lots of movement, and they were great. I thought they looked reasonably polished with a tucked-in blouse and a cardigan. I don't need them in different colors, but if I did, I'd buy another pair." — Amy

Get them from Amazon for $29.99 (available in sizes 16–24 and six prints, also in two-pair sets).

11. A long-sleeve boho dress  about to be your new favorite because it's super fun yet easy to wear. It's perfect for a nice dinner out or even a day of exploring. And as a bonus — it doesn't wrinkle so you don't have to worry about ironing during your trip.

reviewer wearing printed dress in blue

Promising review: "LOVE THIS DRESS. I was hesitant to buy this because it was for a vacation. Because it's made of rayon, I was concerned about how well it would travel. I shouldn’t have worried. I iron a LOT of our clothes, but I can honestly say that this dress came out of the suitcase really nicely. I just hung it in the closet and the few wrinkles fell away. I wore this dress more on our vacay than any other one because it’s so diverse. Even when it got wet, it dried nicely and quickly. It’s a winner! Will be ordering more soon." — Sheri Terrell

Get it from Amazon for $33.99+ (available in sizes S–XL and 19 color combos).

12. A button-down A-line skirt  for a cute style that will still keep you covered enough that you don't have to add a scarf over your outfit when you go into a European church with a dress code.

Reviewer wearing the maxi skirt in gray with brown buttons

Promising review : "This skirt is so versatile. I usually have a hard time finding skirts because I have wider hips so skirts that are longer create a weird silhouette. This skirt is not that. I have been able to wear it to work and feel super comfortable. The fabric is sturdy, and it has a little of a wrinkled look so it is great to travel with. I would recommend this skirt to anyone who is looking for some flare in their wardrobe but doesn't want to break the bank. I got this skirt in red and plan on getting it in a few more colors. Also, it was true to size." — Christina

Get it from Amazon for  $23.99 (available in sizes S–XL and five colors).

13. A two-piece midi dress outfit  you'll be ~dying~ to wear as soon as you get to your destination — as a beach coverup or just a great dinner outfit. You're bound to have a great time when you wear this amazing outfit.

Another reviewer wearing the same set but in orange and purple tie-dye

Promising review: "I absolutely LOVE this outfit!! It is cute, sexy, and comfortable to wear. I bought this outfit as a 'travel outfit' to wear while going to the beach!! I should have bought two at the same time, but I didn't! I definitely will be ordering more colors next time."— Moni

Get it from Amazon for  $37.99 (available in sizes XL–5X and in 31 colors and patterns).

14. A two-piece crop top and wide-leg pants set  that will be the first thing you put into your suitcase when it's time to start packing and then the first thing you pull out when you get to your destination. Reviewers love this set so much and say it's a vacation outfit that they wear again and again , even after they return home.

reviewer wearing the set in green

Promising review: "I bought this outfit for a summer vacation in Italy, and it was perfect. I have since worn it a number of times and wear the pieces separately as well. The pants are a little long, but wearing a shoe with even a slight heel worked well." — Kindle Customer

Get it from Amazon for $34.99+ (available in sizes XS–XL and in 29 colors and styles).

15. A bright and beautiful  tassel-detail dress  because nobody and nothing is going to ~rain on your parade~ when you wear this on the trip (even if it does actually rain). And with 30+ color and print options, you'll for sure find a style that fits your vibe.

reviewer in the long sleeve aqua, yellow, and pink print maxi dress with tassel detail

Reviewer's recommend sizing up if you're busty!

Promising review: "Absolutely adore this dress!! The CUTEST! I bought it in the white/tan color and the really colorful turquoise. Love them both! I feel like they are cute multi-seasonal dresses. You can wear them with sandals in the summer or boots and a cute vest/jacket for fall. Fits perfectly!" — GEM

Get it from Amazon for $36.99  (available in sizes XS–XXL and in 33 prints).

16. An off-the-shoulder maxi  for an effortless look you can quickly grab when you spend too much time at the pool and have approximately five minutes to get ready before your dinner reservation. Reviewers confirm this maxi is stretchy, easy to wear, and (one of the best parts), has pockets!!

Reviewer wearing the off-the-shoulder ruffle maxi dress in navy blue with a slit up the side.

Promising review: "I bought this dress for my trip to Hawaii. It was my favorite dress I wore on this trip!! I bought a large thinking the medium may be too tight, but I could have been fine with a medium because of how stretchy and comfortable the material is. Buying more colors for sure!!!"— Maria E. Montoya

Get it from Amazon for $39.99 (available in sizes XS–XXL and in 16 colors and patterns).

17. A high-waisted palazzo trouser  to ~widen~ your wardrobe selection without having to pack several pairs of pants. This style can be worn with so many different tops and in so many different settings — from a tropical island to a European tour. Be warned though, these might just become your favorite pants .

reviewer wearing the pants

Promising review: "I have these in two colors, and they are now my favorite pants ever. They are very comfortable. I wore them on a 9-hour international flight, and they go with everything. Easy to dress up." — BVanDyke

Get them from Amazon for $33.99+ (available in sizes XS–2X, short and 21 colors).

18. A flow-y tank dress that's essentially made with the same material as pajamas. This means you can wear it on the flight with your favorite jean jacket and be comfortable the whole time, but still be ready to go as soon as you step off the plane. Vacation starts N-O-W.

reviewer wearing the black dress

Promising review: "This dress has adjustable straps. It hugs you but isn't bodycon, which I liked. I paired it with a denim jacket for versatile temps of the airport, and it was great for travel." — Keeli

Get it from Amazon for $25.99 (available in sizes XS–XXL and in 33 colors and patterns).

19. A sleek satin midi skirt  perfect to add to your suitcase because you'll be able to wear it several times on the trip and not feel like you're wearing the same outfit over and over again. Just look at home many cute ways the reviewer styled it below! The possibilities are endless.

reviewer wearing navy version styled with long sleeve top belt and boots

Promising reviews: "This skirt is absolutely stunning! The quality is amazing for the price. I’ve bought similar skirts at other stores that are at least $60 plus but this one is the best one I’ve owned. You won’t regret it!" — Abby

"The rich color of the skirt is what sells it for me. Wear it with several colors, different styles and you will be the hit at work or at dinner." — Jennifer Olvera

Get it from Amazon for $34.99+ (available in sizes S–XL and in 20 colors). And get a  similar version  also from Amazon that goes up to size 5X.

20. A Levi's denim jacket  about to be your go-to layer on your trip. Seriously, this is such a closet staple that you'll never go wrong with it, no matter where you take it. And as a little bonus, I know personally that it looks great with pins on it, so wouldn't it be so cute if you added a pin from each city you take it to?

I've had a Levi's denim jacket for years now and still love it so much and wear it all the time. I've taken it on many trips with me and always find it a great layer to have. Plus, you can totally wrap it around your waist if it get a little warm. I currently only have two pins on it, but I love the look it adds and think it would be a great way to remember your travels!

Promising review:  "I got this dress in two colors. They are made from different materials, but I love them both. It feels like your favorite comfy t-shirt. I wore it to travel in, and I was very happy. It looks great, too — the little peekaboo under the bust is just perfect. It stays tied if you knot it well. I like tying it in a bow, but a double knot would be cute. This also means you can adjust the fit for your bust. 10/10 on this one; I want to get more colors/patterns." — Kellyann B

Get it from Amazon for $35.99 (available in sizes S–XL and in 20 colors and patterns).

Get them from Amazon for  $22.99 (available in sizes XS–XL and in 23 colors).

30. A Hackwith Design House shirt  actually made to be worn six different ways. This fact alone makes it a great shirt to travel with. But you're going to like the styles so much, I can pretty much guarantee you'll wear it more than once during your trip.

a model wearing the black long-sleeved wrap top in three ways: off the shoulder, tied in the front with a square neck, and tied in the back with a V-neck in front

Hackwith Design House is a woman-owned small business that creates made-to-order apparel. This shirt can be worn as a V-neck, off-the-shoulder, boatneck, V-back, and even open as a jacket. And the color is simple, which means it can be paired well with many different bottoms.

BuzzFeed Shopping Editor  Chelsea Stuart  says: "I have this shirt and I *love* it.  All credit for its discovery goes to TikToker  @jennifer.bianca  who I happened to stumble across on my FYP. It checks all my boxes: black, comfortable, versatile, and durable. My initial worry was that I wouldn't feel secure in it (I have a 38DDD chest and most wrap tops/dresses I've tried haven't stayed where they're supposed to), but I haven't had an issue with this! I've worn it tied in the front giving me a square neck (like the middle picture) and tied in the back giving me a V-neck up front (just like the photo on the right) — both were super comfortable, and I didn't have to adjust myself at all. As someone whose weight fluctuates, I also appreciate that this piece can handle pounds gained and lost. The fabric is medium weight, so I'll be wearing it season to season, and there's just enough elasticity in the arms that if you roll up your sleeves, they won't fall back down. All that is to say trust that I will be buying additional colors!"

Get it from Hackwith Design House for $145  (available in sizes XS–4X and in five colors).

31. A stretchy  mid-length pencil skirt  reviewers confirm is as comfortable as wearing leggings but looks so much nicer. If you travel a lot for work, or just need a nice bottom option for dinner, this will be your go-to.

A customer review photo of them wearing the skirt in green with booties and a white T-shirt

Promising reviews:  "I really like this skirt. Great quality…I ordered it twice just because I wear it so much for work and travel. It fits true to size. The color, material, fit, and style did not disappoint. I highly recommend!" — Dione

"Love, love, love this skirt!! I would normally wear a medium, but after reading some reviews about how small it ran, I ordered one size up. When I took it out of the bag today and looked at the waist, it looked so small I thought, NO WAY! But, the fabric is so soft and has so much give that it was fine. In minutes, I felt like I was walking around in my PJs! Yes, it’s THAT comfortable! From the side the fit is very close; it looks like I’m wearing leggings. If you think this would feel or look too tight for you, I would try two sizes up rather than one, although the thigh and leg area is the part of the skirt that fits the closest. But, I’m fine with it, and my husband said I look 'great' in it — sleek and well-dressed but not too sexy which was what I was going for since I’ll be wearing it to church! Came back online just now to order more in different colors but decided to write this review first!" — Lisa S.

Get it from Amazon for $33.99 (available in sizes XS–XXL and in seven colors).

32. A rib-knit ruched crop top that has a drawstring down the middle that's adjustable, meaning you can customize it to show as much (or as little) skin as you want. Combine this feature with the soft fabric and trendy style, and you've got yourself a winner of a top.

Promising reviews:  "I bought this top for my trip to Paris, and it fit perfectly! The material is very soft and comfortable. Would definitely recommend." — Manee Her

"I love this shirt. You can wear it at several different lengths. It is a soft stretchy material. Not see-through at all. Very comfortable for wearing all day and night. Pair this with a skirt or cute pair of jeans!" — Katrina

Get it from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in sizes XS–3XL and in six colors).

You’ve booked your ticket, made your restaurant reservations, and now it’s finally time to pack for your big trip. While we’re sure you’ll have a lovely time no matter what you’re wearing, the best travel clothes and accessories can help make that long-awaited adventure go just a little more smoothly (and make you look that much better in your photos afterward).

When it comes to a travel wardrobe, we favor versatile, easy-to-pack pieces you can wear all day without having to sacrifice valuable exploring time for an outfit change. Since we’re always testing products here at Travel + Leisure , we’ve included eight options personally tested by our team (we can confirm that our favorite travel pants are squat-approved and that we comfortably walked for more than eight hours in the walking shoes below). Here are some of our favorite travel clothes and accessories, from cashmere sweaters to comfortable sneakers and everything in between.

Best Leggings

Lululemon wunder train high-rise tight.

Smooth fabric, a fit that stays consistent across activities, and excellent comfort put these a cut above other leggings.

They’re a bit thin for cold conditions.

Sometimes you just need a good pair of leggings, and Lululemon’s are at the top of the pack for a reason. We found the Wunder Trains to be form-fitting without feeling constricting, and they feature a drawstring at the waist for extra comfort. They never felt tight even after long flights (and the ensuing bloating) or like they were stretching out too much, and the material is smooth and soft with no pilling in sight. Two hidden pockets stretch enough to hold a phone, headphones, ID, and ticket without any noticeable fit difference. They are on the thinner side, leaving legs a bit chilly in flight but very comfortable in warmer climates. Despite that, we didn’t find any transparency in the fabric at all. We tested the 25-inch inseam, but there are also 23-, 28-, and 31-inch variations available in 15 different colors and sizes that range from 0 to 20.

Best Travel Pants

Libin cargo joggers.

These casual pants move with you and provide comfort in a good range of sizes and colors.

They run tight in the legs and are a bit prone to wrinkles.

These extremely comfortable, breathable, and affordable pants moved with us through constant motion, walks, and long drives during testing. The fabric is incredibly soft, and the pockets are great for storing whatever you want to keep close by, with two large zippered front pockets plus extra cargo pockets and one rear zipped pocket. The stretchy, elastic waistband features a drawstring for extra adjustability, and the ankles have a nice level of elasticity for a jogger style. The pants are on the tighter side fit-wise, so you may want to size up for maximum comfort on long flights, and we also found them to be a bit prone to wrinkles. They do have UPF 50+ sun protection built into the fabric, which is great for sunny destinations. There are 13 colors to choose from and sizes up to 3XL.

Best Packable Jacket

Everlane the renew long liner.

This packable jacket offers the cozy feel of a puffer without the bulk, plus split zippers for extra adjustability.

It’s an oversized style and you might need an extra layer underneath in extra cold conditions.

A long jacket gives any outfit an extra touch of style, so finding a packable one is especially exciting. This quilted jacket from Everlane is easy to pack down into a cube or corner of your bag, and the quilting gives it some extra fluff without making it too large. It didn’t wrinkle even after more than eight hours of being stuffed in a packing cube during our testing period, and the split zipper allows for good ventilation and freedom of movement. The soft collar keeps your neck warm in the wind, and the jacket overall feels like it’s a high-quality build that will last. We felt cozy in a range of temperatures, and the oversized fit makes it easy to layer under on extra frigid days. It comes in four neutral shades (black, olive, brown, and pretty blush) and sizes from XXS to XL.

Best Sweater

Naadam the original cashmere sweater.

This high-quality sweater comes in a wide range of sizes and colors.

The sleeves are designed to run short, and you may need to do some occasional maintenance against pilling.

We love this Naadam sweater for its value and high quality, paired with an extensive range of colors and sizes. Right now there are 21 colors available, with nine core neutrals and a rotating set of limited-edition seasonal shades, and it comes in sizes ranging from XXS to XXL. While we didn't personally test this option, the sweater is made from 100 percent Mongolian cashmere so it will stay soft against your skin. The sleeves are designed to run short for easier layering, though taller shoppers may find this a bit annoying. And like all cashmere, it tends to be a bit high-maintenance, but we think it’s worth the tradeoff.

Best Long-sleeve Shirt

Ibex women's travel henley long sleeve.

Ibex

This simple shirt is a versatile classic.

We wish there were more color options.

For frequent travelers, it’s hard not to fill your entire wardrobe with merino wool — a naturally moisture-wicking and odor-resistant material — especially when you’re on the road and really don’t want to have to do laundry. This classic henley has great reviews, with seven snaps that let you stay as buttoned-up (or not) as you please while adding some visual interest, and it’s just fitted enough to be flattering without being clingy. The smooth finish of the fabric and flatlock seams keep you comfortable, there are five colors available, and it's even machine-washable (though you will need to line-dry it).

Best Sweats

Aether w foundation hoodie.

These sweats will keep you comfortable but still looking put-together.

There aren’t a lot of colors available, and they’re on the expensive side.

Sometimes when you’re traveling you simply want to take a break and be cozy. Enter the Aether set, one of our favorite matching sets for travel . You’ll be plenty comfortable in the French terry fabric, with touches like raglan sleeves and cover-stitched seams that keep you from looking frumpy. Match the hoodie with either the cropped sweatpants or shorts, which are both made from the same soft French terry cotton and feature a ribbed waistband and flat, braided drawcord with leather tips as a thoughtful touch. Bonus: all of Aether’s products come with a lifetime guarantee.

Quince Tencel Jersey Fit & Flare Dress

This dress is soft, flattering, affordable, and responsibly made.

It may be a bit on the low-cut side for some builds, and we wish it came in a few more colors.

Looking for a travel dress that does everything you need a dress to do and then some? The Tencel material in this model from Quince is super soft and light, as well as sustainably made. The skirt is long enough to comfortably sit down on the train in and get you into religious sites without concern. It's also accented with two side-seam pockets for smaller items. Meanwhile, the fitted top is both flattering and easy to layer, and provides a nice level of shape to the cut. In addition to eco-friendly materials and Global Recycle Standard-certified yarn, it’s also made in Sedex-certified factories that aim to improve working conditions. It’s also affordable enough that you won’t stress out about packing it and machine-washable for easy cleaning.

Best Bathing Suit

Andie the amalfi.

Adjustable straps, a simple but stylish build, and superior comfort put this swimsuit at the top of the list.

It can take a while to dry, but you won’t feel uncomfortable during the process.

Andie’s Amalfi is simple, sleek, and straight to the point, and that’s why it was our top pick for the best overall one-piece in our Best Swimsuits for Women roundup. During testing, we found that the stylish, slim straps provide plenty of support even with their delicate appearance, keeping everything in place even while swimming laps or hitting the beach. It’s comfortable to wear all day, with no digging in from the straps on top or creeping and crawling up from the edges on the bottom, and it stays soft even when saturated. While it isn’t the fastest-drying swimsuit out there, we thought it was still comfortable no matter what level of damp it is. We didn't notice any stretching during drying, either, even after we thre the swimsuit in a dryer. There are also a whole slew of styles to choose from, with smooth, ribbed, and novelty fabrics (for a total of 10 different colors), sizes from XS to 3XL, and even a long torso cut option.

Best Crossbody Bag

Baggallini everywhere bagg.

Others We Liked

The Everywhere Bagg boasts a plenitude of pockets as well as a comfortable, adjustable strap and a wide color range.

Some people might prefer a divided main pocket.

If you want a travel bag that will hold nearly everything and the kitchen sink — likely in its own designated pockets — go for the Baggallini Everywhere. This crossbody bag has plentiful pockets that will keep you reaching for it across various trip styles and seasons, as well as a spacious main cavity (some might prefer a divider in there, but we also like that it allows for a variety of organization styles). We thought it was very comfortable to carry thanks to the adjustable strap, which you can shorten all the way up to a shoulder bag. The fabric is also slightly water-resistant, so your belongings won’t get soaked in any unexpected storms. The bag comes with a removable RFID-blocking wristlet, as well as a special phone pocket and sleeve for your luggage trolley. Choose from 10 colors, including standard neutrals, bright reds, prints, and even one with shearling accents.

Vivaia Square-toe Mary Jane

These flats are just as comfortable and supportive as sneakers, while also keeping your feet dry and your outfit looking put-together.

They run narrow, but you can choose to order the wide style.

A comfortable, versatile pair of flats can see you through all manner of travel days. This pair from Vivaia was our best overall pick out 29 pairs of flats we tested . They has plenty of room in the square toe so your feet won’t feel squished but also won’t feel like they’re flopping around. The strap across the top helps prevent heel slippage and is perforated all the way through, so you just find your ideal fit wherever it may be. They’re also comfortable right out of the box, almost ridiculously so thanks to the built-in cushioning, as well as extremely breathable. No need to worry about rain, either: our feet didn’t get damp at all in the summer showers during testing. Despite their light weight, these flats feel extremely durable and don’t catch dust or dirt. They even pack flat and won’t take up too much room in your luggage. They are on the narrow side, but the brand offers a separate wide style in three of the six available colors, so there’s a pair for everyone from size five to 11.

Best Walking Shoes

Rykä devotion x.

These absurdly comfortable shoes feel like a firm mattress pad, with perfect levels of breathability, support, and softness.

They’re not the most versatile style, and not everyone likes a roomy toe-box.

When you’re really pounding the pavement, opt for the Ryka Devotion X, which boasts a super-soft inside and supportive outside. We found that they fit extremely well, with a little extra room in the toe-box for wiggle room, and our feet stayed firmly in place while walking without getting a single blister during our testing period. There’s also plenty of support in the sole, with enough spring that it feels like walking on a cloud, providing structure without sacrificing mobility or flexibility. The inside feels like a firm mattress pad, slightly thick and firm, while still giving way underfoot in a way that redistributes weight. The outside is super breathable and feels well-made and sturdy. There are eight colors to choose from in sizes five to 12, as well as both medium and wide widths.

Best Hiking Boots

Salomon x ultra 4 mid gore-tex women's.

These ultra-waterproof boots are light enough that they feel like a running shoe.

They don’t have quite enough traction for very advanced hikes.

If your trip involves hitting the trails, pick up a pair of the Salomon X Ultra 4. Despite their sturdy build, they still feel lightweight, almost like a pair of running shoes. Even if you slip in a puddle, your feet will still stay totally dry (ours did, even when tramping through mud and snow). They’ll still look as good as new when you wipe them down after your hike, too. They don’t require any break-in period, which is great for hiking boots, and gave us a perfectly snug fit while still giving toes room to breathe. We experienced some minor slippage on slick surfaces and rocks, but otherwise the traction is good. Choose from four different color options and sizes from five to 11.

Travel + Leisure / Anna Popp

Best Sandals

Reef cushion vera cruz slide.

These classic slides are easy to style and feel tailor-made for your feet.

The rings on the top are plastic, not metal, but you likely won’t even notice.

For warm-weather travels, pick up these super-cushioned sandals. The leather on top is soft and pliable, while the sole is contoured and extremely comfortable; they feel like they’ve been contoured to your feet before you even ordered them. They fit us perfectly without feeling too tight across the top of the foot. In fact, they were our best overall pick as the Most Comfortable Women’s Slide for Travel of 2023 .

Contouring around the arch adds a high degree of support, and there’s no slipping on grass, cement, decking, or anywhere else. They’ve also versatile enough to become a staple shoe in your wardrobe. We’ve been wearing them with almost everything, and they come in black, white, and light brown, in sizes five to 11.

Travel + Leisure / Melissa Gray

Best Compression Socks

Levsox compression socks.

These compression socks feel like a miniature massage and are easy to get on.

Almost all of the patterns are very bright.

A long flight or even a long train or car ride will feel much better with a good pair of compression socks . Levsox feels like a mini massage in your arches and heels, without being too difficult to put on. At the end of the day, our feet felt a bit less tired after wearing these, with no swelling or aching in the arches, heels, or calves. These socks are breathable and snug but flexible, like a good pair of tights or leggings — feeling almost silky. They also held up well to washing and drying during our tests. They come in an excellent array of patterns, whether you prefer tie-dye, skeletons, or kittens. They are available in sizes small to extra large and packs that include three or six pairs.

We sorted through results from eight of our T+L tests to find the best of the best in travel pants, packable jackets, swimsuits, flats, walking shoes, hiking footwear, slides, and compression socks. While the exact testing methodologies differed depending on each product, we consistently looked for quality of material and construction, comfort, and performance. We did squats in our travel pants, carried our packable jackets around for two full days, and wore all the shoes for at least two straight hours (often longer) to find our favorites. In addition to the eight products personally tested by us, we also included some research options in this list of clothing and accessories to round out the best products for your next trip.

Tips for Buying Women's Travel Clothes and Accessories

Look for wrinkle-resistant materials.

The last thing you want to do in a hotel room is fiddle with the iron, and no one looks their freshest straight off an airplane. Avoid creating extra work for yourself and look for materials that won’t wrinkle, like wool, denim, or rayon. You can seamlessly wear them on the plane and off. Anything labeled a “knit” is also less likely to wrinkle. However, if you have the space, you can always pack a travel steamer .

Consider packability

Thicker materials will naturally take up more room in your suitcase, as will certain styles (coats are notorious space hogs). Look for lightweight clothing that folds or rolls easily and is made from flexible, softer fabrics. When packing shoes, you'll also want to look for lightweight, shorter options rather than tall, heavy boots unless absolutely necessary. If you do need to take larger or heavier items, you may want to wear them on the plane to optimize space.

Prioritize versatility

You’ve only got so much suitcase space. Rather than going for seven different outfits, why not pack simple tops and bottoms you can mix and match? Keep in mind that you should pack enough underwear for every day of travel , though women can get away with just a couple of versatile travel bras . By choosing outfits that can work between various locations (like a dress you can wear both sightseeing and out to dinner), you’ll save time by not having to go back to your hotel to change between venues. Plus, if your wardrobe is versatile, you'll get more use out of it at home, too.

There are two main schools of thought when it comes to packing styles: folding and rolling. When it comes down to it, there isn’t a huge difference between the two. Feel free to alternate — some items of clothing work best with one or the other, but you won’t know until you’ve tried it. Furthermore, compression packing cubes are a great way to maximize space and help you stay organized.

While it seems obvious, the best travel outfit will be something that you like and feel comfortable in. Generally, we prefer darker colors (because they're less likely to show stains or look dingy at the end of a long day); soft, natural fabrics like merino wool that can temperature-regulate and resist odor; and unstructured styles that won't dig into you on a long flight or in small spaces.

It depends on your suitcase, but generally, put your shoes in first. You can stash smaller items of clothing inside your shoes, like socks and underwear. Then, put your shoes in shoe bags (or consider using a hotel room shower cap) if you’re worried about damaging your shoes or getting dirt on the rest of your suitcase. From there, either line them up with the edges of your suitcase or put them in a separate dedicated compartment and build around them. There are also plenty of weekender bags and backpacks with dedicated compartments just for shoes. Meanwhile, you should pack chunkier clothing items like jackets, last in your suitcase, or you can just carry them or wear them on the plane.

A Guide to Antwerp, a City of Avant-Garde Fashion and Art Nouveau Architecture

Five locals — including three of Belgium’s most influential designers — share their favorite stores, museums, restaurants and more.

In the 16th century, Antwerp, Belgium, with its busy docks along the river Scheldt, was a booming center of trade and one of Europe’s most influential cities, attracting artists, intellectuals and entrepreneurs. In 1576, Christophe Plantin ran a prestigious printing business (one of the continent’s largest) in the center of the city, a half-mile from where, a few decades later, the painter Peter Paul Rubens would build his own studio and semicircular sculpture hall, modeled after the Pantheon. Over the years, while other long-established port cities like Venice and Barcelona evolved into throbbing tourist centers, Belgium’s second city largely kept far away from the spotlight, yet it’s always quietly maintained a reputation as a place for innovation and creative expression. In the 1980s, it became an important fashion hub with the emergence of the Antwerp Six: a group of young designers, including Ann Demeulemeester, who had been educated at the city’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts.

Even now, despite its relatively small size (the population is about 545,000), Antwerp is still home to a cluster of people at the top of their creative fields, including the visual artist Luc Tuymans and Pieter Mulier, the creative director of the fashion brand Alaïa. “I can see the port from one side of my apartment and Antwerp’s historic center from the other side,” says Mulier. “Those views allow me to understand the richness of this city, not just financially but culturally.” Lately, there has been a renewed sense of dynamism in Antwerp, with a slate of recently opened restaurants, bars and hotels, including Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp, a luxury resort housed in a converted monastery, as well as ambitious new architectural projects underway in the southern part of the city led by Tokyo’s Shigeru Ban and others. The art scene is also getting a boost now that KMSKA, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, has reopened after its decade-long renovation. Here, Mulier and four other notable locals share some of their favorite spots in the city, from beloved relics to new diversions.

The Insiders

The Costa Rican Cuban painter Ileana Moro lived in New York City, Los Angeles and Mexico City before moving to Antwerp in 2022.

The fashion designer Pieter Mulier , the creative director of Alaïa, divides his time between Antwerp and Paris.

Karen Shu , the chef and owner of the plant-based restaurant And/Or and a former chef de cuisine at Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s ABC Kitchen in New York, moved to Antwerp in 2021.

The architect and designer Vincent Van Duysen , who founded his firm in Antwerp in 1989, has designed a number of buildings and interiors in the city, including those of the hotel August in 2019.

The interior designer, gallerist and antiques dealer Axel Vervoordt is known for prominent design projects throughout his hometown, as well as international ones.

“For a small city like Antwerp to have something as high-end as the Botanic Sanctuary hotel is quite astonishing. The level of everything here, from the restaurants to the service to the rooms, is unbelievable. They took a very long time to do it and had quite an eye for detail. That’s very Flemish. We take a lot of time for things.” (Rooms from about $590 a night.) — Pieter Mulier

“ August was once a military hospital and Augustinian cloister. The high ceilings and old convent windows have so much charm, and I love the way the garden is set away from the street so it feels completely private. It’s perfect for an aperitif or drinks after dinner.” (Rooms from about $190 a night.) — Karen Shu

“ Hotel Julien is a very welcoming and charming townhouse located in the city center. The aesthetics belong to the culture of Antwerp: minimal, elegant and historic, but also modern.” (Rooms from about $225 a night.) — Vincent Van Duysen

Eat and Drink

“ Osaka is a special place — the people, the atmosphere and the design. Inside the surfaces are all stainless steel, very futuristic. The natural-wine list is exceptional, and the oysters are really good. In the summer, people sit outside on the terrace.” — Ileana Moro

“ Tazu is my favorite cocktail bar. It’s gorgeous, and Julian Youssef, the head bartender, is a master cocktail curator and can make you a drink depending on your mood.” — K.S.

“ Restaurant Veranda is very Antwerp, but it also has a bit of a creative Brooklyn feeling. The interiors are simple and understated, and the chef Davy Schellemans makes great seasonal food with the best ingredients. ’t Fornuis is a rustic Flemish place with heavy wood interiors. It’s [an aesthetic] I wouldn’t normally connect with, but the food is incredible. It’s Belgian cuisine with a slightly Mediterranean touch. Sir Anthony Van Dijck is in the heart of the oldest part of the city, where Axel Vervoordt started his career. You have to ring a bell and someone opens the door for you. And then you enter this beautiful place designed by Axel.” — V.V.D.

“ Houben is one of the most iconic multibrand stores in Antwerp. The couple who own it have a very good eye, and the shop has been going since the ’80s, when they were selling Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto. I still visit them regularly.” — P.M.

“Antwerp is very much about fashion, from Ann Demeulemeester to Dries Van Noten, but my favorite exclusive place to window shop is Verso . It’s so chic, with a mix of designers, from Dior to Vince.” — K.S. “ Het Modepaleis is the flagship store of Dries Van Noten, one of my favorite Antwerp designers, who’s also a close friend. His collections are inspired by artworks, the fabrics are very original and distinguished (both for men and women).” — Axel Vervoordt

“I’m obsessed with bed linen. Marie-Marie sells luxurious linens, and there’s no end to the options. It has its own line, which is of an unbelievable quality.” — P.M.

“ Graanmarkt 13 [designed by Van Duysen] is a cabinet of wonders. It’s a place to discover things. Everything that the co-founders Ilse Cornelissens and Tim Van Geloven choose, whether accessories or objects or clothing, is one of a kind.” — V.V.D.

“The art park at the Middelheim Museum is one of the most beautiful sculpture parks that I’ve ever seen. It has an excellent, diverse collection — you can find everything from a Rodin sculpture to an Ai Weiwei, and there’s a nice cafe. Located in the harbor neighborhood Het Eilandje, CASSTL functions as a hybrid of an artist-run space and a gallery. It was founded by Luc Tuymans and the artist duo Carla Arocha and Stéphane Schraenen. They promote noncommercial projects, including performances and installations.” — I.M.

“The Kanaal project — an industrial complex with residences, offices and art spaces [including the Axel Vervoordt Gallery] outside Antwerp — was imagined and developed by Axel and his family; you just get absorbed by their personal taste. It’s a complete universe. You go from one space, such as the Anish Kapoor installation, to another, such as a vast gallery of historic sculptures, and all throughout you travel from dark to light. The whole complex plays with the light of Belgium. The Museum Plantin-Moretus is the house and workshop of the 16th-century printer Christophe Plantin. There’s a beautiful library there.” — P.M.

“If you appreciate architecture and want to discover Antwerp from another era, you have to walk through the Zurenborg neighborhood . I love the Art Nouveau buildings.” — K.S.

“Peter Paul Rubens contributed to the decoration at St. Charles Borromeo Church . It’s from the early 1600s, and the interiors are exquisite. Sometimes I go there by myself. It’s walking distance from the city center. You follow small, narrow streets and then suddenly it opens up to a square, one of my favorites in the city. Everything about it is very poetic. KMSKA , or the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp , has an incredible collection of Belgian painters and a very nice grand cafe. Also, I love the water sculpture at the front of the museum that was created by the artist Cristina Iglesias. The bottom of it is a bas-relief of a bed of leaves in cement, and the water goes in and out like a tide.” — V.V.D.

Breaking news, jpmorgan chase’s woke dei style guide nixes terms like ‘manpower,’ ‘blacklist’.

Jumping through these linguistic hoops is no cakewalk.

JPMorgan Chase employees mocked a recently-unveiled Diversity Equity and Inclusion style guide which clamps down on anti-“woke” language.

The glossary of “not recommended” words and phrases lives on the company’s internal intranet, and was obtained by The Post courtesy of an anti-woke whistleblower.

“Our language matters. And like our diverse culture of respect, equity, and inclusion, the words and terms we use as communicators continue to evolve and become more culturally competent — reflecting our values and intersectional global workforce. To communicate with empathy, we recommend you use the most inclusive terminology,” the guide declares in a preamble.

People reflected in the window of JPMorgan Chase headquarters on Park Avenue, midtown Manhattan, New York City on July 13, 2012

Employees should avoid gendered terms like “man hours” and “manpower” and instead use “labor hours” and “workforce.”

References to “good schools” and “good neighborhoods” are to be replaced by the term “well-resourced.” Instead of “blacklist,” the firm recommends “disallow list.” Company “pow-wows” — which could upset Native Americans — are also a no-no.

The glossary delves into geopolitics, suggesting employees be sure to refer to the “war in Ukraine” — and refrain from calling it a “conflict.”

The glossary offered no explanation.

Other verboten terms include “cakewalk.”

“Like ‘white glove treatment,’ this term is rooted in the history and mistreatment of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Instead use ‘easy to do or achieve,'” The bank noted. The phrase comes from a pre-Civil War dance once performed by slaves.

Even compliments can get you into trouble. The word “articulate” is objectionable “when used to compliment members of certain communities. The remark suggests that the person in question is expected to be less competent, intelligent or well-spoken.”

A man walking past the JP Morgan Chase World Headquarters on Park Avenue in New York, July 13, 2012

The glossary is also replete with bloated definitions of woke warhorses like “microaggressions,” which it notes are “everyday verbal, nonverbal and environmental slights, snubs, insults actions, remarks or questions that — whether intentional or unintentional — communicate hostile, derogatory or negative messages to a person or group based in whole or in part upon the community they align with or belong to.”

Company insiders dismissed the woke words as noise.

“They are creating unnecessary friction and it’s not helping anyone,” a senior JPMorgan executive told The Post — insisting that behind the scenes the bank was still committed to the quality and merit of its people and products.

“There is nobody internally that takes any of this seriously — at the end of the day this is a bank. There is an enormous DEI infrastructure and they have no results to show.”

JPMorgan has long boasted about its DEI bonafides. The company maintains a full webpage dedicated showing their support for the movement. In 2020, as violent Black Lives Matter riots raged across the country, the company announced a $30 billion commitment to “advance economic inclusion among Black, Hispanic and Latino customers.”

A screenshot of the JP Morgan woke style guide.

“People should oppose DEI because it is the layer of professional (and well paid) racial grievance bureaucrats that have been inserted into every profession, not to improve the true goal of that organization, but to create racialized struggle sessions,” said Jason Curtis Anderson, policy director of the nonprofit One City Rising.

A rep for JPMorgan insisted the glossary has existed internally at the company since 2021 and that following its suggestions was “entirely voluntary.”

Some of the offensive terms highlighted by JPMorgan include:

Cakewalk White List, Black List Conflict in Ukraine Disabled Good school, Good neighborhood

Grandfathered Illegal Immigrant Man Hours, Manpower

Crackdown, crack-the-whip

Sydney Sweeney is just the latest female celebrity to be reduced to a body part

For the right wing, stereotyping Sweeney as a hot blonde, rather than a talented actress, plays right into their dogma

new york, new york may 01 sydney sweeney attends the 2023 met gala celebrating karl lagerfeld a line of beauty at the metropolitan museum of art on may 01, 2023 in new york city photo by theo wargogetty images for karl lagerfeld

The latter two observations were prompted by Sweeney’s recent appearance on Saturday Night Live , with one sketch in particular casting her as a Hooters waitress earning $30,000 in tips. The fact that her hosting of the show was supposed to poke fun at this fascination seems to have been lost on her target audience, who one suspects have a similar understanding of nuance to a teenage boy typing “8008135” on a calculator to read “boobies”.

preview for Sydney Sweeney: Inside my beauty bag

The objectification of women in Hollywood is nothing new. Yet something that is striking about the conversation around Sweeney is just how much significance is being placed upon her breasts. It’s not simply that they’re lovely, in the vein of Chandler and Joey watching Yasmin Bleeth in slow-mo on Baywatch , or Roger Rabbit’s exaggerated mouth drop at Jessica Rabbit’s curves. Sweeney’s double-Ds have been granted Helen of Troy status – the right wing is willing to fight for them and their power to eradicate liberal nonsense.

Within society at large, having a more generous cup size is often stereotyped as more “womanly” and therefore makes you a more motherly mother and wifely wife, if you can follow the maths. Online, left-wing women who are trolled on X are often targeted for their breasts, with favourite insults being “flat-chested” or “unfuckable”. It’s why one of Marianne’s bullies in Normal People calls her an “ugly, flat-chested bitch”. To have small breasts is to be unwomanly and thus unloveable, and also, somehow, woke. The right wing in particular value traditional conservative gender roles more than any other political ideology, and Sweeney, with her blonde hair, bubbly persona and ample chest represents a narrow, idealised version of womanhood. Crucially, it’s also one that they haven’t felt “allowed” to express a preference for in recent years, because of, you’ve guessed it, woke culture. Therefore, her boobs are powerful to them.

saturday night live episode 1857 pictured host sydney sweeney during the monologue on saturday, march 2, 2024 photo by will heathnbc via getty images

Not since Kim Kardashian’s posterior has so much focus been placed on one body part and its meaning . When it came to Kim K, her curves were proof that the “heroin chic” look (modelled by Kate Moss et al) was dead, and instead a different impossible aesthetic was “in”. To lesser extent, it was seen with Kylie Jenner’s lips, which were heralded as the reason for an increase in fillers in young women, or so-called “Instagram face” – a phenomenon whereby Gen Zers online all look startlingly similar. There’s also been Emily Ratajkowski’s “ab crack” and Cara Delevingne’s “thigh gap” (which was also dubbed a “harbinger of the apocalypse” by a Guardian reader in 2013). Each was blamed for prompting copy-cats, with their body parts condensed into a “trend”. Yet boobs are not “back” and bodies are not fashion trends.

A study published in 2012 in the European Journal of Social Psychology proved once and for all that our brains see men as whole and women as parts. A test group were shown a selection of images of men and women, before being shown the same pictures again, albeit with one “sexualised” feature exaggerated. Almost universally, the men were only recognised by their whole body, whereas the women could be identified by just their hips or breasts. “Everyday, ordinary women are being reduced to their sexual body parts,” wrote the study’s author Sarah Gervais, a University of Nebraska psychologist. “This isn’t just something that supermodels or porn stars have to deal with.” And what’s more, it’s not just men doing it, either, women objectify women too. Case in point: the writers of both The Spectator and The National Post pieces were both women.

sydney sweeney

One of the questions that Sweeney is asked most often in interviews is, “are you a feminist?” There’s an assumption that a hot blonde with a great rack can’t possibly be intelligent, or political. Her belief system must correlate with a demographic that places the utmost importance on her “all American” looks. Or worse – that the very act of having a bodacious bod – and being proud of it – makes you in some way anti-feminist. That was certainly the line of argument when she starred in the Rolling Stones Angry music video last September, rocking a leather corset and trousers, with some corners of the internet appalled that she would “objectify herself” in that way. The very act of objectification implies dehumanisation. And can you ever really objectify yourself? It’s an argument that came up earlier this year when the singer FKA twigs argued she did not recognise the “traditional sexualised object” that the Advertising Standards Agency had reduced her to.

“The biggest misconception about me is that I’m a dumb blonde with big tits,” Sweeney shared in an interview with Glamour magazine last year. We’d caveat that with another truism. “Some people think having large breasts makes a woman stupid. Actually, it’s quite the opposite: a woman having large breasts makes men stupid.”

A Guide to Travel for Seniors: Destinations, Tips and Precautions

A senior couple enjoys a quiet moment in Paris along the Seine.

Retirement offers seniors the perfect opportunity to indulge in travel, explore new destinations, and create unforgettable memories. However, traveling as a senior comes with its own set of considerations.

In this guide, we’ll suggest great trips for seniors over 60, including places to visit, essential tips and some precautions to take so you can make the most out of your travels.

Best Vacations for Senior Travelers

There are a handful of senior-friendly travel destinations, both near and far, that can offer fun, accommodating experiences.

Europe is a treasure trove of history, culture, and natural beauty, making it an ideal vacation spot for senior travelers. Explore iconic cities like Rome, Paris, and Barcelona, where you can wander through historic landmarks, indulge in world-class cuisine, and admire art masterpieces in renowned museums.

You could also purchase a rail pass and see the sights of Europe from the comfort of a train. For example, take a scenic journey through the Swiss Alps, or discover the beautiful Mediterranean via Spain, France, and Italy.

For seniors who prefer to stay in the United States, there are a number of places you can explore (along with National Parks, below). Wherever you go in this beautiful country, you’re sure to find wonders and friendly people.

Santa Fe, New Mexico, offers a warm climate and a world-renowned arts community, along with authentic Southwestern cuisine. Branson, Missouri, offers unlimited entertainment, more accessible and affordable than Las Vegas. Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, is a walk through history, and Washington, D.C., connects you to this nation’s heritage.

The Complete Guide to Senior Health and Wellness Cover

As people grow older, their health and wellness needs change. Read our eBook, "The Complete Guide to Health & Wellness for Seniors" for everything you need to know about staying healthy and happy as we age.

National Parks

The great outdoors call to many seniors, and U.S. national parks offer endless opportunities for adventure and natural beauty. Visit Yellowstone National Park to witness geothermal wonders like Old Faithful and spot wildlife such as bison and elk.

Explore the awe-inspiring landscapes of the Grand Canyon from scenic viewpoints or take a leisurely hike along the rim. Acadia National Park in Maine offers a perfect mix of coastal scenery, hiking trails, and charming seaside villages, ideal for a relaxing getaway.

Cruises offer seniors the opportunity to explore multiple locations with ease and comfort. Choose from a variety of options, including river cruises along the Danube or Mekong rivers, or ocean cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, or the Mediterranean.

Onboard amenities cater to all interests, from relaxing spa treatments and gourmet dining to enriching lectures and cultural performances. Plus, the all-inclusive nature of cruises eliminates the hassle of planning and allows for effortless relaxation.

Cultural Tours

Delve into the heart of a vacation spot with guided cultural tours that cater to senior travelers. Discover the rich traditions and history of Japan on a tour that includes visits to ancient temples, tranquil gardens, and bustling markets. Explore the vibrant souks and historic landmarks of Morocco, from the bustling streets of Marrakech to the serene Atlas Mountains.

Anywhere you go, with the help of local guides, you can find new experiences and learn about different cultures, widening your own horizons.

Coastal Retreats and Beaches

From the tranquil shores of the Caribbean to the rugged coastlines of the Pacific Northwest, there are plenty of options for seniors seeking sun, sand, and sea. Choose a resort in Maui, Hawaii, where you can unwind on pristine beaches, or opt for the charming coastal towns of the Outer Banks in North Carolina, known for their scenic beauty, historic lighthouses, and fresh seafood.

Whether you prefer lounging by the water, exploring coastal trails, or taking scenic boat tours, coastal retreats offer a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure for senior travelers.

These locations cater to the unique interests and needs of senior travelers, providing opportunities for relaxation, enrichment, and unforgettable things to do. Whether you prefer exploring historic cities, cruising serene rivers, or immersing yourself in nature, there’s a perfect travel experience waiting for you.

Tips for Senior Travelers

Seniors, like any travelers, should map out their visits to get the most out of their journey and to minimize disruptions. Here are a few things to think about:

Plan Ahead: Research your vacation spot thoroughly and organize your itinerary in advance. This will help you make the most of your time and ensure that you don’t miss out on any must-see attractions.

Consider How To Travel: If you’re traveling by car, prepare to make frequent stops. As a senior, you may need to take a break and stretch often. If you’re planning to fly, try to book a non-stop flight. With careful organization, you can avoid long layovers or inconvenient connecting flights.

Pack Light: Traveling with less luggage can make navigating airports, hotels, and transportation much easier. Stick to essentials and choose versatile clothing items that can be mixed and matched.

Stay Connected: Share your travel itinerary with family or friends and stay in touch regularly, especially if you’re traveling alone. Think about using a smartphone or wearable device with GPS capabilities for added safety.

Embrace Slow Travel: Be realistic about how much you can do in a day and allow yourself a chance to slow down and savor the moment. Take time to appreciate the little things, whether it’s enjoying a local meal or watching a sunset over the ocean.

Be Open to New Things: Traveling is an opportunity for personal growth and discovery. Try new foods, meet new people, and step out of your comfort zone.

Precautions for Senior Travelers

Seniors should always take extra precautions when traveling, whether domestically or abroad. Medical conditions, mobility, and other considerations should be factored in.

Consult with Your Doctor: Before embarking on any trip, especially if it involves long flights or strenuous activities, consult your doctor. Ensure that you’re physically fit for the journey and discuss any necessary vaccinations or medications you may need.

Purchase Travel Insurance: Comprehensive travel insurance can cover medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and other unexpected events. This will provide peace of mind in case of any unforeseen circumstances.

Pack Medications and Medical Information: Carry an ample supply of any prescription medications you need, along with a list of medications and your medical history. It’s also a good idea to have copies of your prescriptions in case you need refills during your trip.

Stay Hydrated and Rested: Traveling can be exhausting, so make sure to stay hydrated and get plenty of rest. Take breaks when needed and listen to your body.

Be Mindful of Mobility: Choose destinations and activities that suit your mobility level. Research wheelchair accessibility, if needed, and opt for accommodations and tours that accommodate senior travelers.

Come Home Again to a Senior Lifestyle Community

By taking necessary precautions, choosing suitable locations, and following these tips, senior travelers can embark on unforgettable journeys filled with adventure, relaxation, and cultural enrichment.

When you come back home, you can find a comfortable, supportive space at any Senior Lifestyle community. At Senior Lifestyle, we can help you live a worry-free life while we take care of the everyday needs of living, such as cleaning and meal preparation.

A brief guide to all the MICHELIN Key hotels in Chicago.

Travel Hotels Chicago MICHELIN Keys

travel tips for style

On April 24, 2024, the MICHELIN Guide announced its very first Key hotels in the United States — a brand new distinction recognizing the most outstanding hotels in the country. We're thrilled to report that in Chicago, eight hotels earned at least One Key. Of those, half make their home in the kinds of historic buildings that give this city its well-earned reputation as one of the most architecturally distinguished cities in the country. Follow Michigan Avenue north from the heart of the Loop to the Gold Coast and you’ll pass within two blocks of all but one of them. The Chicago Athletic Association sits within a Venetian Gothic landmark. The Gwen makes its home in a storied 1929 Art Deco skyscraper. The Pendry sets up shop in the masterpiece that is the 1929 Art Deco Carbide & Carbon Building. And the lower floors of the Viceroy make use of the meticulously-preserved, 1920s-vintage Cedar Hotel. There are Key hotels too in newer builds, among them the Peninsula (with uniformed bellboys and staffers who seem to know the name of each individual guest) and the Waldorf Astoria , its lobby a marble marvel. Below, explore the map and scroll down for more about each of the MICHELIN Guide’s eight hotels in Chicago.
