I love traveling solo , but  exploring a new place with a friend can make your travel experience more fulfilling and fun.  However, not everyone will be the right match for the kind of trip you'd like to take, so it's important to choose your travel companion wisely . 

Choosing a travel companion

It's worth taking  some time to think about who would be the perfect fit for you, your destination, and your itinerary before giving them the green light.  It's important to be on the same page with your travel partner in order to have a good experience and make snap decisions.

If you are lucky enough to be traveling with your significant other or close friends, this might be a breeze for you! There will be times when your friends may not be able to go with you based on their schedules or budget, so finding a travel companion may be more difficult. 

Thankfully there are many great websites out there to meet fellow travelers , coordinate plans, and set out to see the world together! I'll talk about them at the end of this article.

These websites match you up with another globetrotter based on your similarities and interests so that your trip with them will go smoothly. This is the perfect option if you don't want to be alone on your trip or you need help splitting costs for cheaper travel .

If your trip is happening soon and you don't have enough time to find a travel buddy , you can always opt to go alone in the hopes of making friends while with other travelers or locals along the way. 

After all, the people are what make a destination so enchanting in the first place , and making friends while traveling alone has a magic of its own.

One of my favorite ways to find good travel companions during the trip is by doing a work exchange . That's a type of volunteer program where you exchange a few hours of work for free accommodation and other perks, like meals and tours.

Consider what activities you and your travel buddy enjoy most. Do you prefer climbing mountains, but your partner is afraid of heights? Would you rather go museum-hopping than explore abandoned landmarks? Are you the type of traveler to enjoy the night in or go partying all night long? 

You don't have to enjoy every little thing together, of course! But setting up expectations helps avoid frustration.

Make sure you know if your travel companion is as outdoorsy, adventurous, artsy, or more into the more touristy sightseeing experiences . This will help you coordinate your itinerary, plan your travel days, and help you be more prepared for each day's new adventure! 

2. What are your differences?

On the other hand, traveling with someone who is too similar to you could cause you to butt heads while making important decisions. Search for a travel companion who is a bit different from you . 

If you're an introvert, find someone who is more of an extrovert. If you're indecisive, choose a partner who knows what they want. If you suck at directions, pick someone who has those skills. Share interests with them, but look for diversity when it comes to personality traits. 

3. Discuss how you want to experience the trip 

The key to having an amazing time immersing yourself in a new culture is balance. Travel burnout is a thing! The last thing you want is to create a schedule that has you running around all day, low on energy from waking up early, only to collapse on your hotel bed at the end of the day wishing you'd taken your sweet time to enjoy the area. 

A good rule of thumb is to alternate your schedule and rythm each day. Sleep in on your first day to adjust to any jet lag you may be experiencing. Make the day one of leisure, traveling slowly and getting a general feel for your new destination. 

Wake up early on your second day to see the sunrise and grab breakfast at the best spot in the city. Then hit all the best museums, sights, and attractions before the afternoon rush! Having a thoughtful itinerary like this will prevent travel burnout and help you explore at a good pace. 

Everyone has their own style of traveling . Some prefer self-guided tours to group tours. Some enjoy lounging by the hotel pool, cocktail in hand, instead of hoofing it everyday to see the sights. Some prefer expanding their minds in museums to paragliding over the ocean.

Discuss what you'd like to get out of the trip with your travel buddy , whether it be to find adventure, discover the best-tasting local dish, or to learn about the culture and have a truly authentic experience. Coordinate your interests and priorities so that no one gets disappointed.

4. Talk about expenditures, budgets, and money-spending habits

Before making reservations, booking accommodation, and planning your itinerary, sit down and have an in-depth discussion about your budget . 

Everyone spends their money differently and values different experiences more than others. Establish a spending plan, both a daily and total budget, what items to splurge on, where you're comfortable staying the night, what kind of transportation you'll use to get around, etc.

5. Are they willing to try anything once?

Whether it be trying savory street food or going cliff diving in paradise, traveling with someone who shares the same love of adventure that you do is a must .  Trying local delicacies  is a big part of every culture, and new experiences that get you out of your comfort zone are what great memories are made of. 

Find a travel companion that isn't afraid to try something new , even if it's just once!

6. Make sure their energy level vibes with yours 

Do you consider yourself to have a more laid back personality, or are you always on the go, ready for the next activity? 

Choosing a travel partner who shares the same energy level with you plays a significant role in how smoothly the trip flows and will tell you how much your partner values slow travel over a crammed itinerary.

7. Do they have a sense of humor?

This is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing your travel buddy! If something goes wrong and you miss your bus, your whole day gets rained out, you forgot to pack something, or you meet someone who is less than friendly, the right thing to do is to shake it off. These things happen, and every trip can't be perfect. Travel is messy.

Choose a travel partner who can laugh about the silly mistakes you make along the way .  Traveling with someone who can't look at the bright side of life will crush your ability to have an enjoyable time and become an unnecessary burden that could ruin your trip altogether. 

This is why it's important to spend some time on the road with your new companion before a big trip comes around.

8. What are their dietary preferences and restrictions?

Some travelers like to plan for everything and will meal plan to account for food costs. Talk to your travel buddy to figure out if they have any food allergies, how agreeable they are with trying street food, if they're vegetarian, if they drink or not, how much of a snacker they are, and so forth. 

9. Are they willing to part ways with you every so often?

Your travel partner should be able to respect your personal space if needed and be able to have the confidence to do some activities on their own. Sometimes you just need time to relax and reflect by yourself, or you'll have different interests and opinions on what to do on a certain day. 

10. Do they have an opinion or are they simply "down for whatever"?

It's always good to travel with someone who speaks their mind about what activities they do and do not like. It helps you narrow down what things you can do by yourself and determine what you need to include to make the trip an equally enjoyable experience for everyone.

However, if they are extremely easy to plan for, you can conveniently add more adventures to your to-do list. It's best to know this about your travel partner beforehand to aid you in the initial trip planning process. 

11.  What is their packing style like?

This isn't a huge deal, but if you're a "carry-on only" type of traveler, you don't want to be stuck checking your friend's luggage under the plane and taking up more precious time at the airport. 

Additionally, if their luggage is way too heavy because they've mistakenly overpacked, it will slow down your trip when you have to help them lug it around everywhere. 

Ensure that you and your travel companion are on the same page about packing  and can help each other pack lighter and smarter before the trip. 

12. Is this person trustworthy?

Would your companion be able to be responsible enough to take care of your belongings while you're away from the hotel, stick with you if they happen to meet an attractive stranger, and avoid wandering away from you in busy crowds? 

Your travel partner should never leave you hanging in a tough situation, leave you stranded, or jeopardize the group's safety . Go with someone you can trust to have your back. 

13. To party or not to party?

The more experienced traveler may enjoy grabbing a bottle of wine and resting their tired feet after a long day of sightseeing. Others might enjoy taking a quick nap to recharge before heading out on the town to party the night away. 

Both are totally fine, but make sure your companion knows which type of traveler you are . If you're more of a relaxed traveler, ensure the other person is aware of this and is able to find friends to party with, and vice versa.

Traveling with a group can be tricky to coordinate. More people means you need to get along with each person in the party, or else the group could become socially divided. 

If you're in a trio, two of your group members might get along particularly well, and you could wind up feeling left out. Make an effort to hang out with your group before your trip in order to get to know everyone better.

Who is Defined As Your Family Member or Traveling Companion?

A Family Member usually means your spouse or domestic partner, child, spouse’s child, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother, sister, mother, father, grandparents, grandchild, step-brother, step-sister, step-parents, parents-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, guardian, ward.

Be sure to check each insurance provider’s exact definition of a Family Member. A good rule of thumb is: “ Family members are related by blood or marriage “.

On the other hand, Traveling Companions are “related” by their travel arrangements. In other words, they are people traveling together.

A common Traveling Companion definition is “a person or persons whose name(s) appear(s) with Yours on the same Travel Arrangements and who, during Your Trip, will accompany You.”

A group or tour organizer, sponsor or leader is not a Traveling Companion as defined, “unless sharing accommodations in the same room, cabin, condominium unit, apartment unit or other lodging with You.”

Where do Business Partners fit in? Some companies consider a business partner to be equal to a Family Member. However, their definitions are very specific: an individual who is involved in a legal partnership and shares in the management of the business. Note the wording “a legal partnership” – this means a General Partnership. Not an LLC, not an LLP, not a C-Corporation, not a S-Corporation, not a Sole Proprietorship.

Here's some help figuring out who qualifies as a Traveling Companion. (note: Traveling Companions are people you are not related to - those people are usually Family Members). Some (not all) Travel Insurance plans cover you if you're forced to cancel or interrupt your trip because of unforeseen events like you, a family member or a Traveling Companions gets hurt or sick.

Where do Business Partners fit in? Some companies ( Travelex , Travel Guard , Travel Insured , Travel Safe ) consider a business partner to be equal a Family Member. However, their definitions are very specific: an individual who is involved in a legal partnership and shares in the management of the business. Note the wording "a legal partnership" - this means a General Partnership. Not an LLC, not an LLP, not a C-Corporation, not a S-Corporation, not a Sole Proprietorship.

Important: Just so it's as clear as I can make it, the only way you could possibly be covered for a trip cancellation or trip interruption involving a "Business Partner" is if you are all part of a Legal General Partnership. Trust me (Steve Dasseos) when I say there aren't very many Legal General Partnerships out there, so the likelihood of using this befnefit is reduced.

TRIP CANCELLATION BENEFITS Benefits will be paid up to the Maximum Benefit Amount purchased to cover an Insured for the Published Penalties and unused non-refundable prepaid expenses for Travel Arrangements when an Insured is prevented from taking his or her Covered Trip due to:1. death of an Insured, Traveling Companion or Family Member; 2. a covered Sickness or Injury involving an Insured, Traveling Companion or Family Member which necessitates Medical Treatment at the time of cancellation and results in medically imposed restrictions, as certified by a Legally Qualified Physician, which prevents an Insured?s participation in the Covered Trip;

Domestic Partner means a person who is at least eighteen years of age and can show evidence of financial interdependence, such as joint bank accounts or credit cards, jointly owned property, and mutual life insurance or pension beneficiary designations; plus one of the following: 1) evidence of continuous cohabitation throughout the 180 day period prior to the Insured's Effective Date of the Plan; or 2) an affidavit of domestic partnership if recognized by the jurisdiction within which they reside.

Family Member means any of the following: an Insured's or an Insured's Traveling Companion's legal spouse (or common-law spouse where legal), legal guardian, son or daughter (adopted, foster, step or in-law), brother or sister (includes step or in-law), parent (includes step or in-law), grandparent (includes in-law), grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew, Domestic Partner, an employed caregiver who lives with the Insured, or a person for whom the Insured is the primary caregiver with whom the Insured have lived for 12 continuous months prior to the effective date of the Insured's plan, whether or not they travel with the Insured.

Traveling Companion means a person or persons with whom the Insured has coordinated Travel Arrangements and intends to travel with during the Covered Trip. A group or tour leader is not considered a Traveling Companion unless the Insured is sharing room accommodations with the group or tour leader.

FAMILY MEMBER includes your or your Traveling Companion's dependent, spouse, child, spouse's child, son/daughter-in-law, parent(s), sibling(s), brother/sister, grandparent(s), grandchild, step-brother/sister, step-parent(s), parent(s)-in-law, brother/sister-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, guardian, Domestic Partner, foster child, or ward.

TRAVELING COMPANION means a person whose name(s) appear(s) with you on the same Covered Trip arrangement and who, during the Covered Trip, will accompany you.

Here's what Travelex says:

TRIP CANCELLATION/TRIP INTERRUPTION You are covered for the amount purchased for Published Penalties and unused non-refundable prepaid expenses for Travel Arrangements, whenever You are prevented from taking a Covered Trip for any of the following reasons that occur after the Effective Date of Your Protection Plan: - Any serious Injury or any unforeseen serious Sickness: 1) occurring to You, Your Business Partner, a Traveling Companion which is so disabling as to cause a reasonable person to delay, cancel, or interrupt their trip;2) occurring to Your Family Member that is considered life threatening or requiring hospitalization; or 3) occurring to Your Family Member requiring Your immediate care. The cause of cancellation must be as the result of medically imposed restrictions as certified by a Legally Qualified Physician at the time of loss preventing Your continued participation in the Covered Trip; - Your death, the death of Your Family Member, Business Partner or Your Traveling Companion;

Note this important policy wording under Travelex's Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption coverage for Any serious Injury or any unforeseen serious Sickness: "3) occurring to Your Family Member requiring Your immediate care " . The important phrase is "requiring Your immediate care". This means that if you're taking a trip and your grandmother gets sick or injured, you'll only have a valid claim if you are the person responsible to take care of her.

"Business Partner" means an individual who: a) is involved in a legal general partnership with You; and b) is actively involved in the day-to-day management of Your business.

"Family Member" means Your: legal spouse or common-law spouse (where legal), legal guardian, legal ward, son or daughter (adopted, foster, step or in-law), brother or sister (includes step or in-law), parent (includes step or in-law), grandparent (includes in-law), great-grandparent, grandchild, great-grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew or Key Person, provided the Family Member resides in the United States, Canada or Mexico.

"Key Person" means a) an employed caregiver of a legal dependent of You or b) a person to whom You are not married and with whom You have cohabited for 12 continuous months.

"Traveling Companion" means a person or persons with whom You have coordinated Travel Arrangements and intend to travel with during the Covered Trip (to a maximum of four persons including You). Note: a group or tour leader is not considered a Traveling Companion, unless You are sharing room accommodations with the group or tour leader.

Note: To qualify for the "Children under 16 are covered at no additional cost (except for optional plan add-ons) when accompanied by a covered adult", the children must be a Family Member to the primary insured.

Here's what Travel Guard says:

TRIP CANCELLATION AND INTERRUPTION The Insurer will reimburse the Insured, as described below, if a Trip is canceled or interrupted for the Insured due to any of the following Unforeseen circumstances: (a) Sickness, Injury, or death of an Insured, Immediate Family Member, Traveling Companion, or Business Partner. Injury or Sickness must be so disabling as to reasonably cause a Trip to be canceled or interrupted. If the Insured must cancel or interrupt his/her Trip due to Injury or Sickness of an Immediate Family Member or Business Partner, it must be because their condition is life-threatening, or because the Immediate Family Member requires the Insured's or Traveling Companion's care;

"Business Partner" means an individual who: (a) is involved with the Insured or the Insured?s Traveling Companion in a legal partnership; and (b) is actively involved in the daily management of the business.

"Domestic Partner" means an opposite or a same-sex partner who is at least 18 years of age and has met all of the following requirements for at least 6 months: (1) resides with the Insured; (2) shares financial assets and obligations with the Insured; the Insurer may require proof of the Domestic Partner relationship in the form of a signed and completed Affidavit of Domestic Partnership.

"Immediate Family Member" means the Insured's or Traveling Companion?s spouse or Domestic Partner, child, spouse's child, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother, sister,mother, father, grandparents, grandchild, step-brother, step-sister, step-parents, parents-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, legal guardian, caregiver, legal ward, or Domestic Partner of any of the above.

"Key Employee" means an employee of an employer who is responsible for policy and decision making.

"Traveling Companion" means a person or persons with whom you have coordinated travel arrangements and intend to travel with during the Trip. A group or tour leader is not considered a Traveling Companion, unless you are sharing room accommodations with the group or tour leader.

Here's what Travel Insured says:

Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption: The Insurer will pay a benefit, up to the maximum shown on the Schedule of Coverage and Services, if You are prevented from taking or continuing Your Trip due to the following Unforeseen events: a) Sickness, Accidental Injury, or death of You, Your Traveling Companion, or a Family Member or Business Partner of You or Your Traveling Companion which results in medically imposed restrictions as certified by a Physician at the time of loss, preventing Your continued participation in the Trip. A Physician must advise cancellation of the Trip on or before the Scheduled Departure Date.

"Business Partner" means an individual who: (a) is involved in a legal partnership; and (b) is actively involved in the day-to-day management of the business.

"Domestic Partner" means a person, at least 18 years of age, with whom You have been living in a spousal relationship with evidence of cohabitation for at least 10 continuous months prior to the Effective Date of coverage.

"Family Member" means You or Your Traveling Companion's legal or common law spouse, Domestic Partner, parent, legal guardian, step-parent, grandparent, parents-in-law, grandchild, natural or adopted child, foster child, ward, step-child, children-in-law, brother, sister, step-brother, step-sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew.

"Traveling Companion" means a person who is sharing travel arrangements with you. Note: a group or tour leader is not considered a Traveling Companion unless You are sharing room accommodations with the group or tour leader.

Here's what Travel Safe says:

Covered reasons for Pre-Departure Trip Cancellation: Sickness; Injury; Mental, Nervous, or Psychological Disorders requiring inpatient hospitalization of three (3) days or more; death of you, an Immediate Family Member, Traveling Companion, or Business Partner; death or hospitalization of your Host, as defined; or Other Covered Events, as defined. The Sickness or Injury must: a) commence while your coverage is in effect under the policy; b) require the examination and treatment by a Physician at the time the Trip is canceled; and c) in the written opinion of the treating Physician, be so disabling as to prevent you from taking your Trip.

Covered reasons for Post-Departure Trip Interruption: Sickness, Injury, or death of you, an Immediate Family Member, Traveling Companion, or Business Partner; or for Other Covered Events, as defined. For item 1) above, the Sickness or Injury must: a) commence while your coverage is in effect under the policy; b) for item 2) above, commence while you are on your Trip and your coverage is in effect under the policy; and c) for both items 1) and 2) above, require the examination and treatment by a Physician at the time the Trip is interrupted or delayed; and d) in the written opinion of the treating Physician, be so disabling as to delay your arrival on your Trip or to prevent you from continuing your Trip.

"Business Partner" means an individual who is involved, as a partner, with you in a legal general partnership and shares in the management of the business.

"Care Giver" means an individual employed for the purpose of providing assistance with activities of daily living to you or to your Immediate Family Member who has a physical or mental impairment. The Care Giver must be employed by you or your Immediate Family Member. A Care Giver is not a babysitter; childcare service, facility or provider; or persons employed by any service, provider or facility to supply assisted living or skilled nursing personnel.

"Domestic Partner" means a person who is at least eighteen years of age and you can show: 1) evidence of financial interdependence, such as joint bank accounts or credit cards, jointly owned property, and mutual life insurance or pension beneficiary designations; 2) evidence of cohabitation for at least the previous 6 months; and 3) an affidavit of domestic partnership if recognized by the jurisdiction within which they reside.

"Immediate Family Member" includes your or the Traveling Companion's spouse, child, spouse's child, son-daughter-in-law, parent(s), sibling(s), grandparent(s), grandchild, step brothersister, step-parent(s), parent(s)-in-law, brother-sister-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, guardian, Care Giver, Domestic Partner, foster-child, or ward.

"Traveling Companion" means up to six persons whose names appear with yours on the same Trip arrangement and who, during the Trip, will accompany you. A group or tour organizer, sponsor or leader is not a Traveling Companion as defined, unless sharing accommodations in the same room, cabin, condominium unit, apartment unit, or other lodging with you.

People start thinking about their retirement bucket list and how to travel with companionship as they retire. The wrinkle in travel for seniors came when COVID-19 forced many older adults to re-think or cancel their plans. Even now, COVID and vaccination requirements can complicate the most well-laid plans. Older adults are the most vaccinated group in the US and feel more confident about traveling now.

People are living longer, and as the average age of a senior traveler increases, so does the desire for protection and guidance. Many seniors refuse to let their physical conditions prevent them from traveling. 

Senior traveling companion services are an excellent option for single or partnered older adults who want the security of another person or group to accompany them. In cases where someone requires hands-on assistance, a companion is a necessity. You may not have considered this option before, but after learning more about a senior traveling companion, you might decide this service is just the ticket to the grand vacation you have been dreaming of.

A senior traveling companion is someone who can be younger and accompany a senior on a trip as a professional planner, tour guide, or caregiver. Or a senior traveling companion is another older adult or group of adults who travel to the same destination together.  Each category of companion will have different tasks and motivations.

Travel buddy or companion

A travel buddy is paired with you for similar interests and destinations. A travel buddy or companion service will:

• A travel planner will plan every detail, from flight itineraries, hotels, rental car arrangements, daytime activities, and the number of people on the trip.
• Some travel planners will not only plan your trip but find a suitable companion for the one you want to take.
• Travel planners will investigate all vaccination requirements and ensure you comply with local health laws.

Senior travel clubs

Senior travel clubs are groups of seniors who pay membership fees to the club and get vacation packages at bulk rates. Travel clubs specialize in everything from active adventures to academic and cultural trips. Of note are reports of scam travel clubs, so vet any travel club carefully to ensure they are legitimate.

Medical and transit companion

Many older travelers have medical problems, cognitive impairment, or mobility issues. In these cases, a senior can hire someone to travel with them to assist with the trip and care needs. Assistance can consist of:

• Managing medications
• Helping with bathing and dressing
• Checking vital signs
• Find health services at your destination.
• Handling any durable medical equipment needs

The cost of a senior traveling companion depends entirely on the type of service you want and need. If you simply want to book through a tour agency that caters to seniors, you will pay your portion of the trip, and the other travelers will pay theirs. Most travel group plans offer a discount if you share a room. If you are going through a service to find traveling companions, there will be a membership fee to find compatible travel buddies.

For seniors who want to hire someone to accompany them on their travels, the cost will depend on the tasks required. ZipRecruiter esports that the average hourly pay for a travel companion in 2022 was $27.89 an hour. This hourly cost can be significantly higher if more assistance is needed, especially if a nurse accompanies you on a trip. You will also likely need to pay for all their trip costs, including airfare, meals, other transport, and tourist entrance fees.

Senior traveling companions can be a terrific option, but you will want to consider some additional details before taking the plunge. Let’s review some of the pros and cons of a traveling companion.

Pros of a senior traveling companion

• The primary reason people choose a traveling companion through an agency is the convenience of paying someone else to do all the planning, which puts less stress on you. A senior traveling companion program can handle as many or as few travel details as you want.
• The opportunity to meet new people and form friendships
• Another benefit of a senior traveling companion is the safety and security of having a companion with you at all times.  Also, an itinerary tailored to your comfort level where there are few surprises can provide a sense of security to many travelers. 
• The assurance that someone will take care of your care needs. 
• A senior traveling companion allows you to explore destinations and things to do in retirement that you may not have considered before.

Cons of a senior traveling companion

A traveling companion is not for everyone, and it may not be possible even for those who prefer a companion. You may not find anyone you feel comfortable with, or the cost is too high. 

• The cost of a senior traveling companion can be prohibitive, especially if you need and want a companion to take care of your medical needs. Even in programs where everyone pays their costs, the pricing will be higher than if you planned the trip yourself. The do-it-yourself programs where you pay a fee to find a compatible traveling companion and do all the planning yourself are probably the most affordable.
• The appeal of having everything organized for you is the very aspect of a traveling companion that some people don’t like. There could be a lack of travel flexibility. Many travelers prefer the unpredictability and spontaneous nature of unorganized travel. Finding themselves on a trip where they wish to change the itinerary is a downside for those folks.
• The whole idea of a senior traveling companion is to have company on a trip and have someone to share the experience. But there is always the possibility of incompatibility, and you won’t find out until you are on your way. Sharing a room with a senior traveling companion is usually less expensive, but you give up privacy.
• There is the possibility that you book an active travel trip that turns out to be too challenging. When you are with a group, you don’t have the option of scaling back the activity level.

Finding a senior traveling companion for you or your loved one could be lengthy, depending on what you are looking for. You may be surprised by all of the group travel options for seniors. If you or a loved one is looking for a companion that will provide more personal care as a senior travel companion, you will need to vet the company and the companion. Consider these questions:

• What experience does the companion have, and on what types of trips? 
• Can you provide references for the specific companion that will come on the trip?
• What are your safety protocols?
• Are your companions CPR and first aid certified?
• What insurance options are there through your company, and what does it cover?
• How do you communicate with other family members during the trip?

If you are looking for travel companies, reviewing choices online might be best. One feature to consider is if you are looking for an “active” vacation which could entail hiking, biking, and walking. Most legitimate companies will have a guide to the activity level for each trip so you don’t overextend your physical capabilities.  

Perhaps a river cruise or more extensive cruise is more up your alley. Or your interests may be more cultural or academic. Try and narrow your interests so you don’t waste time investigating companies that don’t offer what you want.

Other ideas for finding people locally to accompany you and others on trips are Meetup , senior centers, and Facebook. The other possibility is to reach out to friends who might have an interest in traveling together. If you find one or more people willing to travel and can agree on a place, a travel agent can make as many arrangements as you want.

A Senior Traveling Companion

A senior traveling companion can be a great way to access travel and adventure safely.  The key to a successful experience is to be open to a new travel companion while choosing your trip wisely. Accept that no trip or companion is perfect but that the journey will likely be one you will remember.

History of Companion

You may be a companion to someone without eating with that person, but etymologically you are sharing a meal with them. The word companion ultimately comes from the Latin com - (“with”) and panis (“bread, food”). The ingestible aspect of this word is reminiscent of symposium , which may be traced to the Greek word sympinein , meaning “to drink together.” But just as you may be a companion to someone without eating, you may also attend a symposium without drinking.
