Join us for a campus tour!

By Crissy Campbell on October 12, 2023

Join us for a campus tour!

Are you wondering what life at UBC  is like? Are you curious about your new classes, or how to build your community? Maybe you’d just like to see if UBC feels like the right place for you?

If so, come and join us for a campus tour ! We have two tour options for both UBC Okanagan and UBC Vancouver – in-person campus tours and live virtual campus tours.

In-person campus tours

Free walking tours are offered throughout the week at both our Okanagan and Vancouver campuses. Each tour lasts 90 minutes on our Okanagan campus and two hours on our Vancouver campus and is led by a friendly student ambassador, current UBC students who are excited to share their knowledge and show you around campus. After your tour, you’ll have the chance to connect with an advisor and ask any questions you have about attending UBC.

Live virtual campus tours

You’ll be in excellent hands as you join our friendly student ambassadors, who provide an in-depth look at UBC. Live virtual tours of the Okanagan campus last for 75 minutes, and the Vancouver campus tours run for 90 minutes. Both finish with a student Q&A panel where you can ask your questions. Our ambassadors are current students who are excited to share their knowledge and experiences with you, and help you discover what it’s like to be a UBC student! All of our live virtual campus tours are offered on Zoom.

Tour schedules

Tours are scheduled at both UBC Okanagan and UBC Vancouver on various days throughout the week. Take a look at our campus tours page to see the most up-to-date schedule.

Additional tours for Indigenous students

We offer Indigenous-specific campus tours for prospective Indigenous students (members of First Nations, Métis, and/or Inuit peoples in Canada) at both of our Okanagan and Vancouver campuses. Tours are led by our friendly and knowledgeable Indigenous student ambassadors who will guide you around campus and highlight Indigenous-specific spaces, services, and resources available to you. After the tour, an Indigenous student advisor will be available to answer your questions. We welcome individual requests and groups of all sizes.

Request an Indigenous campus tour of UBC by emailing [email protected] .

How to register

To view all upcoming campus tours and to register, visit our Tours and events page and select the campus tours tab.

If you are an Indigenous person of Canada and you’d like to request an Indigenous campus tour of UBC Vancouver, send us an email .

Keep exploring

If you are unable to attend one of our in-person or live virtual campus tours or you want to learn more about UBC at your own pace, you can also experience our two campuses by taking a self-guided virtual tour .

We hope you’ll join us!

See What Our Visitors Have to Say

The Greenheart TreeWalk will spark your adventurous spirit as you navigate suspended walkways and tree platforms high above the forest floor. Located in the heart of UBC Botanical Garden , the 310 metre-long tree top canopy walkway hangs from huge Douglas firs, cedars and grand firs, many of which are over 100 years old. Reaching a height of nearly 20 metres above the forest floor, the walkway will give you a bird’s eye view of Vancouver’s magnificent coastal temperate rainforest.

Make your way from platform to platform at your own pace or have a knowledgeable guide take you on a fascinating tour. At the peak of your experience you will be 23 metres above the forest floor on a towering viewing platform from which you can take in the sights and sounds of the forest.

The Greenheart TreeWalk is a canopy walkway, an aerial trail system that allows people to journey through the upper parts of the forest. Its structure enables visitors to explore the flora and fauna that thrives in this lofty environment.

Greenheart’s approach is to provide access to the canopy with minimal impact on the trees or habitat. Unlike other treetop canopy walkway systems bolted into the trees, the Greenheart TreeWalk’s design and engineering does not damage the trees or the surrounding delicate ecosystem. Using an innovative cable tension system, the platforms are hung from the trees without the use of nails or bolts. With features such as the “Tree Hugger” cable system and “Kissing Bar” stabilizing device, it is easy to see how the walkway is a special addition to the forest landscape.

You can visit us virtually with our 360 tour below.

Guided Tours

Let Greenheart’s naturalists take you on a tour of the forest canopy. Learn about the diverse and unique ecosystems, sustainable eco-tourism, tree identification and First Nations’ cultural use of plants. Learn how trees are home to a multitude of woodland creatures such as the resident bald eagles, woodpeckers, hummingbirds and owls, and how forest plants are used as traditional medicines and food sources.

The Greenheart TreeWalk operates April 1 – October 31. Group bookings must be made in advance. Please review the Greenheart TreeWalk tour experience here and complete the booking request form to request a tour. Guided tours are booked for a minimum of 10 participants. We highly recommend that groups of over 15 book a guided tour.

Please note that you are welcome to experience the walkway at your own pace without a naturalist.

Special Considerations

We want everybody to have a fun and memorable experience on the walkway. To ensure everyone’s safety and comfort please note:

  • Both hands must be free to hold onto the canopy guide ropes
  • Small children must be either able to walk on their own or be carried in an approved child backpack or carrier
  • Strollers, walkers or wheelchairs are not permitted on the walkway
  • No jumping, running, or excessive swaying of the bridges
  • Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Closed-toe shoes are highly recommended
  • Please allow for one hour or more to complete the Greenheart TreeWalk

Greenheart Conservation Company

Greenheart is a Vancouver-based company with a global portfolio. An industry leader in the design and construction of nature based walkways and eco-attractions, Greenheart has a proven track record for providing consultation, planning and construction services to numerous eco-attractions across Central and South America and Africa. Greenheart is leading the way in creating innovative strategies that support and protect nature through the development of non-invasive, sustainable eco-attractions.

The Greenheart TreeWalk at UBC Botanical Garden is the result of a successful collaborative process between UBC and Greenheart, a process now regularly used by Greenheart on other international projects. In addition to its nature-based attractions, Greenheart also specializes in the design and construction of adventure facilities such as zip-lines and high ropes courses.
