We will also provide you with useful tips for a successful visa application.

Step 1: Determine Your Visa Type

Start by carefully selecting the appropriate visa type that aligns with the purpose of your visit. The UK extends different categories of visit visas to cater to diverse needs:

  • Standard Visitor Visa: Tailored for tourism, family visits, business interactions, or academic conferences.
  • Family Visitor Visa: Designed for visiting family members who reside in the UK.

  • Academic Visitor Visa: Facilitates academic visits such as research or lecturing engagements.
  • Child Visitor Visa: Intended for minors under 18 visiting the UK.
  • Sports Visitor Visa: Designed for athletes participating in sporting events.

It is essential to carefully review the requirements for each visa type on the official UK government website to ensure accurate categorization of your application.

Step 2: Check Eligibility Criteria

Before proceeding further, ensure you meet the eligibility criteria for a UK Visit Visa. You must demonstrate that:

  • Plan to leave the UK after your visit.
  • Have enough money to support yourself during your stay or receive financial support from someone else.
  • You Can afford your journey back home or to your next destination.
  • Don’t intend to stay in the UK for long periods or make it your main home.

Please note that there might be additional eligibility requirements depending on your visit purpose.

Step 3: Gather Required Documents

Compiling the necessary documents serves as the cornerstone of a successful visa application. Assemble the following essential documents to apply for a UK visit visa from Pakistan:

  • Valid Passport: Ensure your passport remains valid for at least six months beyond your planned return date.
  • Passport-sized Photographs: Include two recent passport-sized photos that adhere to size and background color guidelines.
  • Visa Application Form: Accurately complete the online application form on the official UK Visa and Immigration website. Store the application reference number for future reference.

Step 5: Pay The Visa Fee

Once the application form is completed, proceed to make the visa fee payment online. The fee varies depending on the chosen visa category. Retain the payment receipt as it serves as documentation for your appointment.

Here are the visa fees for different lengths of stay:

  • Standard Visitor Visa for Medical Reasons (11 months): £200
  • Standard Visitor Visa for Academics (12 months): £200
  • 2-Year Long-Term Standard Visitor Visa: £376 (6 months per visit)
  • 5-Year Long-Term Standard Visitor Visa: £670 (6 months per visit)
  • 10-Year Long-Term Standard Visitor Visa: £837 (6 months per visit)

The visa fee estimation is based on the recent information provided on the official UK Visa and Immigration website. Make sure to check the official website for any changes in the visa fee.

Step 6: Schedule Biometrics Appointment

After successfully paying the fee, schedule an appointment at a visa application center for the collection of biometric data, which includes fingerprints and a photograph. Pick a convenient date and time for your appointment.

Step 7: Attend The Appointment

On the designated day, visit the application center with your passport, appointment confirmation, and all necessary documents. Your biometric data will be collected as part of the standard application procedure.

Step 8: Attend An Interview (If Required)

In specific instances, an interview might be requested, either in person or through a video call. Prepare by meticulously reviewing your application and being ready to discuss your travel plans and ties to Pakistan.

Step 9: Wait For A Decision

Following the biometrics appointment and interview (if applicable), your application enters the processing phase. Bear in mind that processing times for a UK visit visa from Pakistan vary, so submitting your application well in advance is recommended. It’s crucial to ensure that you meet all the eligibility requirements before applying for a UK visit visa from Pakistan to increase the chances of a successful application.

Step 4: Determine if a UK Visa is Required for Your Visit

It’s essential to verify if you need a visa to visit the UK from Pakistan. The UK government has specific visa requirements for different countries, and it’s crucial to check if a visa is necessary for your visit. You can find this information on the official UK government website or by consulting with a reputable immigration consultant or embassy. Ensuring that you have the correct visa, if required, is a crucial step in preparing for your UK visit.

Depending on your nationality, you’ll either:

  • Must apply for a Standard Visitor Visa prior to traveling to the UK
  • Should be eligible to visit the UK for a duration of up to 6 months without requiring a visa

Step 5: Verify if a Visa is Required Before Submitting Your Application.

Even if you are exempt from needing a visa, it is important to ensure that you still meet the eligibility requirements for a Standard Visitor to enter the UK. You may be asked questions about your eligibility and planned activities at the UK border.

The cost of a Standard Visitor visa for a duration of up to 6 months is Rs. 34,661. You can apply for this visa as early as 3 months before your intended travel date. Alternatively, if you visit the UK frequently, you may opt for a long-term Standard Visitor visa.

You can only appeal to the tribunal if you have the legal right to appeal – you’ll usually be told if you do in your decision letter. Talk to a solicitor or an immigration adviser if you’re unsure whether you can appeal. You have 28 days to appeal after you get your decision. If you have to leave the country before you’re allowed to appeal, you have 28 days to appeal once you’ve left the country. If you apply after the deadline, you must explain why – the tribunal will decide if it can still hear your appeal. Apply online if you can – online appeals are quicker than a post or fax appeals.

The more ties to Pakistan you will show, the more it will be easier for you to get the visa.

If you are paying taxes to FBR in Pakistan than submit your tax returns of the current year and several earlier years, but make sure the income you mention in your forms should match the income you have shown in your tax returns. If you have some property, property or land than submit its documents as well. If you are staying at some one’s house than mention how many bedrooms they have in their house, the visa counselors check the accommodation seriously, and if the sponsor does not have enough space or bedrooms to keep you or your family than your visa will be rejected.

  • Purpose of Visit : You must clearly outline the reasons for your trip to the UK. This could range from tourism, family visits, or business engagements. The purpose should align with the type of visa for which you are applying.
  • Financial Stability : You must provide evidence of having enough funds to cover your expenses during your stay in the UK. This means accommodation, daily expenses, and any potential emergency costs.
  • Accommodation Plans : Proof of where you will be staying throughout your visit is required. This could be a hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from a UK resident who will be hosting you.
  • Intention to Return : You’ll need to prove your intent to return to Pakistan once your visa expires. This can often be demonstrated through ties to your home country, such as employment or property ownership.

Required Documents

While the requirements may vary slightly depending on the specific visa you are applying for, these are the general documents needed:

Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months from your intended date of arrival in the UK.

Application Form

You’ll need to complete the application form online through the official UK government website.

Biometric Information

As part of the application process, you’ll need to attend a biometrics appointment where your fingerprints and photograph will be taken.

Invitation Letter

If you’re visiting family or friends or attending a business meeting, an invitation letter from the host is often required.

Financial Documents

Recent bank statements (typically from the last six months) will need to be presented to confirm your financial stability.

Employment Verification

If you’re employed, an employment verification letter may be required to show ties to Pakistan.

Tax Records

Some applicants may need to provide tax records as additional evidence of financial stability.

Travel Plans

Though not advisable to make any non-refundable bookings, you’ll need to provide a general outline of your travel plans.

Additional Documents

Depending on your circumstances, other documentation like marriage certificates, academic qualifications, or business registration documents might be needed.

Application Fee

As of the year 2024, the application fee for a Standard Visitor Visa is £115.

This fee is non-refundable, even if the visa application is denied, so make sure all your documents are in order before submitting the application.

Application Process

  • Online Application : The UK Visa application process begins online. You’ll need to complete the application form, pay the visa fee, and schedule an appointment at a visa application center.
  • Document Submission : Gather all required documents and submit them at your scheduled appointment. At this time, you will also provide your biometric data.
  • Interview : Some applicants might be required to attend an interview. You’ll be notified if this applies to you.
  • Decision : After your documents and biometric information have been processed, you’ll receive a decision, typically within 15 working days. In some cases, especially during peak times or if additional documentation is required, processing could take longer.
  • Visa Stamping : If approved, your passport will be stamped with the visa, allowing you to travel to the UK for the duration stipulated.

What Are The Special Considerations for Pakistani Nationals?

  • Additional Screening : Pakistani nationals may be subject to additional security checks, which could prolong the application process.
  • Travel History : A stable travel history can be beneficial in the application process but is not a mandatory requirement.
  • Health Insurance : It’s advisable to have comprehensive health insurance as the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) coverage does not automatically extend to visitors.
  • Credibility Interviews : Be prepared for a credibility interview where you’ll be asked about your plans in the UK, your background, and other pertinent information.

How To Extend Your Stay

If you find that you wish to extend your stay in the UK, it’s crucial to start the extension process well before your current visa expires. Here’s how:

  • Eligibility : Check that you meet the extension criteria, including proof of ongoing purpose in the UK and sufficient funds to sustain your extended stay.
  • Application : Submit an online application form and pay the required fee, which will differ based on the type of visa you initially had.
  • Documentation : Gather all required documents, which are generally similar to those needed for the initial visa application.
  • Biometric Information : Update your biometric information at a local center if required.

Please note that you should not assume the extension will be granted and should have contingency plans in place.

What Happens If My Visa Is Refused?

If your UK Visit Visa is refused, the notice will usually indicate whether an appeal is possible and the deadline for doing so.

  • Grounds for Appeal : These could include proving that a mistake was made in the evaluation of your application or that required documents were not considered.
  • Legal Advice : Consider seeking advice from an immigration lawyer who specializes in UK visa appeals.
  • Filing an Appeal : Follow the procedure outlined in your refusal notice, which may include submitting an appeal form and additional documentation.
  • Alternative Routes : If an appeal is not possible or fails, you might be able to apply for a different type of visa or reapply by addressing the reasons for refusal.

Can I Apply For My Visa As A Family?

Applying for a UK Visit Visa as a family entails additional layers of documentation and requirements:

  • Group Applications : While there’s no group application per se, family members must submit their own individual applications.
  • Linking Applications : During the online application process, you can link family members’ applications to indicate that you’re traveling as a family.
  • Minors : Applications for minors must be completed by a parent or guardian and must include additional documents like a letter of consent from both parents and copies of their passports.
  • Dependents : If traveling with dependents, you’ll need to provide additional documentation demonstrating your relationship and your ability to support them during the stay.

6 Visa Application Mistakes to Avoid

Securing a UK Visit Visa involves strict adherence to procedures and requirements. A small oversight can result in delays or even a denial. Here are some mistakes to avoid:

  • Incomplete Documentation : Make sure you’ve gathered all required documents before applying. Missing even one could result in an incomplete application.
  • Incorrect Information : Double-check all the information on your application forms. Incorrect data can be grounds for visa denial.
  • Insufficient Funds Proof : Failing to adequately prove you have sufficient funds to sustain your trip could be a major setback.
  • Lack of Travel History : While not a strict requirement, having a lack of travel history and failing to justify it can raise questions about your intentions.
  • Overstaying Previous Visas : If you have a history of overstaying your visas in any country, it can affect the decision on your current application.
  • Not Preparing for the Interview : If an interview is required, failing to prepare adequately can result in an unfavorable outcome.

Can I Work in the UK on a Standard Visit Visa?

No, you cannot work in the UK on a Standard Visit Visa.

This type of visa is specifically intended for tourism, visiting family or friends, or short-term business activities like attending meetings or conferences. It does not permit any form of employment, whether paid or unpaid, in the UK.

Engaging in work while on a Standard Visit Visa is a violation of visa conditions and can have serious legal and immigration consequences.

Can I Study in the UK on a Visit Visa?

Yes, you can study in the UK on a Visit Visa, but only for a short duration.

The Standard Visit Visa allows for study up to 30 days, provided it is not the main reason for your visit to the UK.

If you intend to study for a longer period or if your main purpose of visiting the UK is to study, you should apply for the appropriate student visa.

Can I Switch to Another Visa Category While in the UK on a Visit Visa?

Generally, you cannot switch to another visa category from within the UK while on a Standard Visit Visa. This visa category does not allow for switching to work, study, or other long-term visa categories.

If you wish to apply for a different type of UK visa, you typically need to return to Pakistan and submit a new visa application from there, meeting the specific requirements of that visa category.

11 Reasons for UK visa refusal (and how to overcome them)

Updated: September 8, 2023

Reasons for UK visa refusal

UK visa application is the most strict and highly scrutinized visa process. The UK Visas and Immigration receives thousands of visa applications every year that do not meet visa requirements.

Once you have a UK visa refusal, it remains permanently in the records of the UK Home Office. Each time you re-apply, your previous UK visa refusal comes up. It becomes an unavoidable hindrance to all of your future UK visa applications. Therefore, you must get approval in the first attempt at all costs.

According to national statistics published by the Home Office, the UK visitor visa refusal rate for 2019 was 13%. The countries with the highest refusal rates were Algeria, Ghana and Bangladesh with refusal rates over 40%.

This article walks you through the top UK visa refusal reasons. This list should also help if you are reapplying after your UK visa refusal.

The top reasons for UK visa rejection are as below –

  • Long itinerary
  • Unclear itinerary
  • Lack of leave approval letter
  • Lack of salary deposits in your bank account
  • Large undocumented deposits in your bank account
  • Exhausting all your savings or spending several times your monthly income
  • Lack of travel history
  • Lack of detailed cover letter
  • Lack of proper documentation from the sponsor
  • Not disclosing any previous visa refusals
  • No change in circumstances since your previous visa refusal

Now, let’s take a deep look into each of these reasons and understand how to overcome these in your own UK visa application.

Go through and understand each of these reasons. Analyze your own visa application to figure what’s lacking and what needs to be done. It should help you build a strong case and get approval in your first attempt.

So, without further delay, let’s get started.

NOTE The visa refusal reasons in this article are actual reasons given by the UK visa officers in the visa refusal letters. After going through several visa refusal letters from my readers, I put this article together to help you all analyze your own applications and avoid future rejections.

TOP 11 REASONS FOR UK VISA REFUSAL

UK visitor visa approval rejection rates 2019

01. Long itinerary

REASON “You have stated that you wish to visit the UK for 1 month”

Be realistic. The UK is small and you only need a few days to explore. A long itinerary looks suspicious. It looks as if you will be living or working in the UK rather than site seeing.

The UK is also expensive. You must have enough funds to justify your itinerary.

A 7-10 day itinerary works the best for the UK tourist visa . If you are only visiting London, probably less than 7 days is better.

Also Read: 11 mistakes that can get your visa denied. And how to avoid them.

02. Unclear itinerary

REASON “You did not indicate what you intend to do or where you intend to stay. The plans for this trip are unclear and lacking in detail.”

Specify a detailed itinerary in your cover letter. The itinerary should include the dates, cities and your day-to-day activities in each city.

If your itinerary is too long, attach an additional page to your cover letter.

03. Lack of leave approval letter

REASON “It is unclear if your employer has agreed for you to be away from work for the period of this trip, and therefore that you will return to this employment following this trip.”

Include a leave approval letter from your employer. A leave approval letter is the single most document that can strengthen your case. It indicates two things –

  • You have strong ties with your country
  • You have the obligation to return back to your country after your UK trip

Your leave approval letter should clearly mention that you have been granted leave to travel to the UK and you will return to your current job after your vacation.

This letter must be on the company letterhead with original HR or manager’s signature. You must have your HR or manager write this letter specifically for your UK travel.

If you cannot obtain a leave approval letter, have your employer at least mention your leave details in the employment letter.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE I had my employer include my leave approval details in the employment letter for my UK visa. I haven’t seen a single UK visitor visa refusal from those who submitted a leave/vacation approval letter. In my opinion, it really is a strong document.

04. Lack of salary deposits in your bank account

REASON “Your stated monthly income is not reflected in the history of the account”

It is not uncommon to have a UK visa rejected due to bank statements. Apart from your employment documentation, you must be able to show your monthly salary in your bank statements for UK visa .

Make sure your employer deposit your salary directly into your bank account. Your regular salary deposits indicate two things –

  • You are genuinely employed and have a steady source of income
  • You have genuinely saved up to travel to the UK and not borrowing money from someone

Have your employer deposit your salary directly into your bank account. It’s fine if you have to withdraw cash for expenses, family, etc. But, it is important to have your salary deposited directly into your bank account.

If you receive a physical paycheck, deposit the check yourself in the bank regularly every month.

05. Large undocumented deposits in your bank account

REASON “Large credits have been made which are in excess of your stated monthly income”

REASON “I am not satisfied with the origin of these funds or that they are genuinely available to you”

REASON “The sources of these deposits are not demonstrated by the documents provided”

As I mentioned in the above reason, it’s not uncommon to have UK visa rejected due to bank statements.

Large deposits in your bank account indicate that you have borrowed money to inflate the numbers in your bank account. Visa officers will not be convinced that the funds in your account are your own and are available for you to use.

Make sure there are no large deposits in your bank account. If you already have large deposits in your account, provide proof of the source of those deposits. Example –

  • If you have received money from selling a property, attach the sales deed to the bank statement
  • If you have received money from rents, attach the rental agreements from your tenants

06. Exhausting all your savings or spending several times your monthly income

REASON “I don’t find it credible that you would exhaust nearly all the funds available to you”

REASON “This amount represents over half your declared savings or over x months of your monthly expenditure”

If the total expenditure of your UK trip is more than half of your savings or several times your monthly salary, your visa will be refused. It’s not realistic to exhaust all your savings on one trip to the UK. You would need to preserve at least half of your savings for emergencies.

If your savings are low, your UK visa may be rejected due to insufficient funds. Taking chances and applying for your UK visa will lead to refusal and also affect all your future visa results. So, take a few months to build your savings first.

It is not wise to spend more than 2 times your monthly income on your UK trip. If your monthly salary is low, wait until your monthly salary improves. Ask for a raise or take up a second job. But taking chances will only lead to refusal.

If you have received a gift or bonus from your employer or your sponsor is taking care of your expenses, you are still REQUIRED to show a saving that is more than twice your UK trip expenditure. This is to make sure you can support yourself during your trip in case your sponsor or employer decides not to support you.

07. Lack of travel history

REASON “I am not satisfied that you are a genuinely seeking entry as a visitor and that you intend to leave the UK at the end of your visit”

REASON “I note that you have never traveled to the UK or anywhere else before”

Travel history indicates that you do not have illegal immigration intent. If you were to stay illegally anywhere, you could have done it so already in any of those countries you have been to so far.

If you do not have travel history, build your travel history first.

Travel to some visa-required countries. The more countries you travel to, the better it is for your UK visa.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE I have traveled to over 30 countries so far. I have been to some countries multiple times. I have plenty of visas and stamps in my passport. My travel history helps in my visa approvals.

08. Lack of detailed cover letter

REASON “I am not satisfied that you have sufficient ties and would, in fact, leave the UK on completion of your proposed visit”

UK visa application forms may not ask for all the details that you want to convey. Therefore, a cover letter is a way for you to convey that additional information and convince the visa officer that you are genuinely seeking entry as a visitor.

Write a detailed cover letter mentioning your proposed itinerary, your financial situation, your travel history, your intention to return, etc.

Your cover letter should not exceed one page. Use bullets instead of paragraphs. The simpler, cleaner the better.

Keep in mind that the UK visa officers may not be familiar with terminology from your country. Do not use words, designations, addresses, etc. that are not familiar to them.

Visa officers may have lots of work on their plates. So, your cover letter should convey what you want to convey clearly and quickly.

Templates for UK visa by Visa Traveler

09. Lack of proper documentation from your sponsor

REASON “I am not satisfied that your sponsor will be able to provide maintenance and accommodation during your sponsor trip”

If you are using a sponsor for your UK visa, you must have the following documentation from your sponsor. If you don’t have all of this documentation from your sponsor, you will be risking your visa.

  • A letter from your sponsor undertaking that he/she would arrange your accommodation, transportation and other expenses while you are in the UK
  • Your sponsor’s bank statements for the last 3 months (must indicate employer pay deposits and have no large undocumented deposits)
  • Your sponsor’s British passport’s main page
  • Your sponsor’s British postal poll card
  • Your sponsor’s utility bill

Just having an invitation letter is not sufficient. An invitation letter is not legally enforceable and such letters will not help unless you provide additional documentation from your sponsor such as those mentioned above.

10. Not disclosing any previous visa refusals

REASON “I am aware that you have been refused a US visa and you do not declare this on your visa application form”

UK Home Office may have information sharing with other countries. You must enter only true information and must disclose any previous visa refusals from any country, not just the UK.

Pretty much all the information you provide is verifiable these days. Therefore, not disclosing your previous visa rejections can lead to your UK tourist visa refusal.

Also Read: How to turn your weak passport into a strong passport (with examples)

11. No change in circumstances since your previous visa refusal

REASON “I note that your were previously refused entry clearance”

REASON “You are likely to be refused unless the circumstances of your application change”

If your circumstances haven’t changed since your previous UK visa refusal, your visa may be refused again. Multiple visa refusals can lead to blacklisting and permanent ban. It’s wise to not apply at all than dealing with a visa refusal again.

Reapply for your UK visa only if there is a considerable change in your circumstances.

UK visa refusal letters

The UK visitor visa refusal rate is very high these days. The UK Home Office has been refusing visas more frequently than ever before.

Documents required for a UK visit visa from Pakistan

The documents that must be attached to a UK visitor’s visa application in general are:

Applicant’s legal status, meaning what is your legal status in the country from which you want to apply for a UK visa. It means that you are a citizen of this country or have a work permit and residence permit, proof of which must be attached to the application.

Proof of old passport and travel history, i.e., if you have traveled to a country before, a copy of this visa and entry stamped pages must also be attached to the application. That’s why it’s best to keep a set of original documents and their copies.

Bank Statement A 6-month bank statement is generally preferred for a UK visa, which should have a balance of at least Rs 1 million or more. However, the more money you have in your bank account, the more financially stable you are, and your chances of getting a visa are higher.

Proof of Income and Source of Income:

Applicants for UK tourist visas must attach proof of income and source of income with the application. For example, if you work somewhere, you will need to get a letter from your company or employer stating your job details, salary, position, etc. In addition, if you have a private business or are a freelancer, you will need to submit the registration or honors and tax details documents and the visa application.

After that, you have to go to the England Visa Service Center (Jerry’s, VFs) website in Pakistan and book an appointment online.

Then you have to go to the service center on the due date along with the original papers and passport etc., and complete the process of photo and biometric. There is a process of 20 to 25 days after submitting documents, after which your application will be decided.

If your visa application is rejected, you will receive a letter stating the reasons for the rejection of the application. The advantage of this is that you can correct your mistake and re-apply for a UK visa.

2 Key Factors for UK Visa Success

If you want to increase your chances of being approved for a UK visa, you must consider these two factors: First, your income and sources of revenue.

First: If you can prove that your income and savings are such that you can easily afford all the expenses of your UK visit, then the chances of getting a visa will be higher.

In addition, if you can prove that your sources of income are the ones that give you significant income and savings, and there is no contradiction between them, then the chances of getting a UK visa approved will be bright. ۔

Second, whether you apply for a visitor’s visa or a tourist visa to England or any other country, another important thing is that a good tourist is a budget traveler. He plans his tour for the least amount of money.

If you book a hotel in this country for accommodation, it will be expensive. Hostels are cheaper than this, so you should book a hostel if you have a limited budget. It will prove that you are a budget traveler; this factor is often beneficial in visa approval.

Middle East latest: Worshippers in Tehran chant 'death to Israel' after strike; man 'carrying explosives' arrested at Iranian consulate in Paris

Worshippers in Tehran gather at a demonstration just hours after an apparent Israeli strike in Iran. Elsewhere, a man is arrested at the Iranian consulate in Paris after claiming to be carrying explosives.

  • Analysis:  This strike has escalation written all over it
  • Analysis: Iran isn't biggest threat to the coalition right now
  • Live reporting by  Emily Mee

An Israeli retired major general has said he doesn't believe Israel's overnight attack on Iran is a "very significant event".

Major General Giora Eiland, the former head of the Israeli National Security Council, said the strike showed Israel can reach "even sensitive places" but it had tried to "do it way that both sides can be satisfied".

He told Sky's World with Yalda Hakim programme that he doesn't "predict real escalation after this".

Asked whether Israel's message had been received in Iran, he said countries will try to emphasise their success and minimise the success of the other side.

He added that in attacking Israel, Iran had created an international coalition against itself - "something they certainly don't want to see".

We've been hearing from our military analyst Professor Michael Clarke , who says the overnight attacks on Iran appear to be the Israelis "going after certain targets directly linked to n[Tehran's] attack last weekend".

It's not been confirmed yet, but he says Israel almost certainly used ballistic missiles - rather than the drones than Iran says were used.

"The Iranians have an interest in saying it was almost certainly a one-off attack, it was drones, it didn't matter," Professor Clarke says.

This "relieves them of the responsibility of being so outraged they have to do something even more decisive", he says.

Both sides are now "trying to save face".

Professor Clarke says Israel wanted to carry out an attack, but not one that would upset its allies too much.

Meanwhile Iran is being "careful not to overplay" Israel's attack.

We reported earlier today on a tweet from Israel's national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir, calling the attack on Iran overnight "lame".

Channel 12 is now reporting a confidant of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reached out to the far-right politician to tell him he was harming Israel's national security.

However, the network added he is unlikely to face further repercussions as Mr Netanyahu is reliant on him to remain in power.

Mr Ben Gvir is among the Israeli hardliners calling for a harsher response to Iran and more brutal measures in Gaza.

The Israeli prime minister remains in a tough spot as he is facing calls for de-escalation from Western allies, but he also needs to appease hardliners within his government to stay in power.

The Met Police has retracted its previous statement about two of its officers, who were heavily criticised for threatening to arrest a Jewish man near a pro-Palestinian march.

The officers said the antisemitism campaigner, who was wearing a kippah skull cap, was "quite openly Jewish" so they were concerned about the reaction to his presence near the march.

The Met said it had "reflected on the strength of the response to our previous statement" and wished to make a new apology.

In its earlier statement, the force had said the use of the term "openly Jewish" was a "poor choice of words and while not intended, we know it will have caused offence to many".

It continued: "In recent weeks we've seen a new trend emerge, with those opposed to the main protests appearing along the route to express their views.

"The fact that those who do this often film themselves while doing so suggests they must know that their presence is provocative, that they're inviting a response and that they're increasing the likelihood of an altercation."

But this statement was criticised by the antisemitism campaigner in the video, Gideon Falter, who accused the force of "appalling victim blaming".

"What has dented Jewish Londoners' confidence in the Met is not us making this video public, but the actions of the Met's officers telling me that I cannot be in the area whilst openly Jewish," he said.

"The assistant commissioner appears to be saying that we should have taken this on the chin and kept the video under wraps."

Here is the new statement in full:

"The use of the term 'openly Jewish' by one of our officers is hugely regrettable. We know it will have caused offence to many. We reiterate our apology.

"We have reflected on the strength of the response to our previous statement. In an effort to make a point about the policing of protest we caused further offence. This was never our intention. We have removed that statement and we apologise.

"Being Jewish is not a provocation. Jewish Londoners must be able to feel safe in this city.

"Our commitment to protecting the public extends to all communities across London. It's important that our public statements reflect that more clearly than they did today."

US officials are continuing their silence on the apparent Israeli attack on Iran overnight.

In a news conference just now, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked whether this is part of a strategy to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.

She said she has "nothing to share" and was "not going to speculate on reportings".

Ms Jean-Pierre said the US does not want to see the conflict escalate and will continue to consult with partners.

Israeli fighter jets launched three missiles at an air defence radar site near the Iranian city of Isfahan in last night's overnight strike, according to a report.

ABC News, citing an unnamed US official, said the radar site was part of the protection of Iran's Natanz nuclear facility.

The official reportedly said the missiles were fired from outside Iran and the strike was "very limited".

They also said an initial assessment showed the radar site was taken out, but the assessment has not yet been completed.

Iran earlier said three drones were involved in the attack on Isfahan, and made no mention of any missiles or damage.

The US has publicly said very little about the attack, apart from confirming it was not involved.

By Alex Rossi , international correspondent on the Israel-Lebanon border

The roads through northern Israel along the border with Lebanon are empty of cars.

It is unnervingly quiet.

Since 7 October the area has been under bombardment from Hezbollah militants and tens of thousands of people have left following the government's evacuation rules.

Ariel Frish, the deputy head of security, in Kiryat Shmona, a frontline city, shows me the damage in a residential area.

A house is gutted from fire caused by the explosion from the strike.

"We got attacked by a great wave of missiles, one of the missiles hit this house," he said.

"Nobody was here because we evacuated the city one week before. And if we had not evacuated there would be no survivors.”

The Israel Defence Forces and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire on a daily basis in the north for more than six months - and it feels like a full scale war may not be far away.

Walking through the communities in the north is eerie.

You can hear the sound of birdsong and the constant noise of drones and warplanes circling overhead.

A short distance from the Lebanese border and former IDF commander, Gideon Harari, who lives in one of the communities in the line of fire, says a major confrontation is looking more likely every day.

The situation with Iran and the standoff with Hezbollah, as well as the war in Gaza, make this an incredibly dangerous time for the region.

"The shooting is daily. Rockets, drones every day," he said.

"Now is the most dangerous point in the Middle East for the last forty years. If Israel will take military measures against Iran it might drive us into a Middle East war, a big war."

The internally displaced have moved to hotels and guesthouses in safer parts of Israel.

In Tiberias the evacuees can only wonder when it will be safe to return.

"The mood of the people in Israel is very frustrated. And it is very dangerous to live here," says Daniel Boker, who left his hometown of Metula on the border, months ago.

Tensions are now the highest they've been for decades and that's reflected in the preparations Israel is making.

The national ambulance service, Magen David Adom, has been stockpiling equipment in an underground facility. Chief of staff Uri Shacham, tells me 7 October has changed everything.

"We are preparing for a long-term campaign or long-term war," he said.

"If you had talked to me in September 2023, I would have said we have a supply for one month.

"Nowadays, because of what we are expecting, [we are] preparing... many more month's [worth] of equipment."

Israel now faces crisis on multiple fronts but it is clear the current situation in the north is increasingly untenable.

It will not take much for a broader war to break out.

A video showing explosions in the sky above Isfahan provides further information on last night's attack in Iran.

Sky News determined the video was filmed next to Laleh Park in the northeast of the city by matching features including a road, park, flagpole and three cylindrical structures.

This made it possible to determine the video shows explosions in the sky to the east of the city.

While this video does not contain enough information to tell with certainty what site was targeted, explosions in this general area fit with accounts in Iranian media that a base adjoining Isfahan International Airport was attacked.

This base is located to the northeast of Isfahan. Fars News Agency, a regime-aligned Iranian outlet, has claimed that three explosions occurred near this site as a result of last night's attack. No substantial damage has been reported.

The apparent Israeli attack on Iran has prompted airlines to change flight paths, cancel flights and divert others to alternate airports over security concerns.

Iran closed its airports in Tehran, Shiraz and Isfahan in the aftermath and cleared flights from the western portion of its airspace for a few hours after the attack, according to flight tracking website FlightRadar24.

Both the airports and airspace had reopened by 4.45am UK time.

Flydubai said it had cancelled its flights to Iran and an earlier flight had turned back to Dubai.

Tracking data also showed an Iran Air flight from Rome to Tehran was diverted to Ankara, Turkey.

As we reported earlier, Germany's Lufthansa cancelled all flights to Tel Aviv and Erbil until tomorrow, and would avoid Iraqi airspace during this time period.

United Airlines said it would cancel its daily flight from Newark to Tel Aviv until 2 May, while Air Canadasaid it was pausing operations to and from Tel Aviv until the end of June.

Emirates, Flydubai, Turkish Air, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and Belavia were among the carriers continuing to fly over the part of Iran's airspace that remained open in the initial hours after the attack early today.

Activists and aid workers are preparing another attempt to break through the Israeli blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

A coalition of organisations, including the IHH and the Mavi Marmara Association from Turkey, are planning to set sail soon onboard the ship Akdeniz.

The exact launch date is unclear but activists are currently sorting aid inside the cargo hold.

The same organisations were previously in charge of a flotilla that attempted to deliver aid in 2010.

Israeli commandos stormed the Mavi Marmara in international waters, leading to an altercation that left nine people dead and dozens of activists wounded.
