The third and newest ship in the Virgin Voyages fleet is Resilient Lady, which was christened in 2023 and adds yet another bright red vessel to the high seas.

Virgin Voyages is an adults-only cruise line known for quirky modern design, entertainment that pushes the limits and exceptional, all-included specialty dining.

Virgin Voyages Resilient Lady destinations

The Resilient Lady’s home port is in Athens, and the ship sails itineraries in the Mediterranean for part of the year. Then, to reposition itself, the ship makes a transcontinental voyage that visits Dubai, India and Southeast Asia, before cruising on to Australia and New Zealand.

The ship also spends time in Europe, making stops in the U.K., the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal, among others.

Resilient Lady ship details

Don’t expect to find a lot of differences between the Resilient Lady and its two siblings, the Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady — all three ships are nearly identical.

On the Resilient Lady, the nearly 2,800 passengers stay in just over 1,400 cabins across seven levels, ranging from solo rooms to large, impressive suites. Passengers also have access to amenities, restaurants and entertainment across another six decks, with a jogging track and yoga deck topping things off.

Expect to come aboard and find minimalist design, trendy music, lighting that changes throughout the day and a staff that sees entertaining as their raison d’etre.

Resilient Lady accommodations

The staterooms on the Resilient Lady are unique from the get-go. Instead of a traditional room key, cabins are unlocked using a bracelet made from plastic recovered from the ocean. Nearly all of the cabins come with balconies and many have a signature red hammock, allowing guests to lounge al fresco in privacy.

There are a handful of interior cabins without an ocean view. Social Insider cabins have bunk beds and are great for groups up to four, while Solo Insider cabins are smaller and perfect for the single traveler who doesn’t need a lot of space.

Both balcony and interior rooms typically have standard — and quite small — bathrooms with good lighting and wall-mounted Red Flower toiletries in the shower.

For a real treat, reserve one of the RockStar Quarters or the Mega RockStar Quarters. Some of these suites feature terrace whirlpools, living rooms and seaview showers.

Those lodged in RockStar Quarters and other suites are treated to a private area on one of the top decks known as Richard’s Rooftop. Here, the outdoor lounge serves complimentary drinks throughout the day, with live music at certain hours and whirlpools reserved for just these guests.

Other benefits of these cabins can include access to the spa's thermal area, free laundry, comped minibars, and priority boarding. Roundtrip airport transfers are also available for these guests, and the largest suites have real guitars and amps for ensuite, self-made entertainment.

Rock Star Coordinators, otherwise known as cabin attendants, patrol the hallways of the most premium cabins to provide assistance in the room — making the bed, cleaning, helping with the ensuite record player or delivering room service.

In all staterooms, there's an electronic tablet that controls the lights, temperature, shades, music and television. To provide extra space in some cabins, the beds can convert to a sofa during the day and revert back to a bed by night.

Resilient Lady amenities

There’s no shortage of things to do while sailing on the Resilient Lady. You can shop in the onboard boutiques, sunbathe by the pool, play basketball, enjoy arcade games, drink at the bars, test your boxing skills or relax at the spa.

The thermal spa area has steam rooms, saunas, a salt room, plunge pools, a beauty salon and spa treatment areas. Topless sunbathing is also an option on one of the upper decks.

There’s also an outdoor jogging track and free fitness classes on a fixed schedule. For a permanent reminder of your trip, visit the onboard tattoo parlor.

Resilient Lady dining

With more than 20 dining options on the ship, you can eat somewhere different daily and enjoy a variety of global cuisines.

The restaurants on the Resilient Lady are identical to those on Virgin Voyages’ other ships, and dining at all of them is included in the cruise fare. Unlike other cruise lines, you won’t pay extra to dine at specialty restaurants aboard Virgin Voyages, though some premium menu items may cost extra.

Instead of one main dining room or buffet, there’s a food hall — akin to what you might find in a high-end shopping mall — called The Galley, serving all kinds of prepared-to-order dishes. You’ll find sushi, ramen bowls, fresh salads, burgers, all-day breakfast choices, tacos, and even bento boxes with to-go goodies to take to the cabin.

Specialty restaurants include Pink Agave, a Mexican outlet with flaming skillets for fajitas and authentic fare from around the country; The Wake, featuring steak and seafood; and The Test Kitchen, serving up molecular fusion cuisine offerings. There’s also Italian cuisine, veggie-forward spots and more.

Other favorites include an ice cream bar, a carnival-inspired, 24-hour diner with popcorn and booze-infused milkshakes, and a Korean restaurant that has guests cooking barbecue and playing drinking games during dinner.

You can also pay for a dinner theater show — which includes a multi-course meal accompanied by acrobatic entertainment — or an afternoon tea paired with Champagne.

Resilient Lady beverages

One thing not included in the cost of sailing on the Resilient Lady is alcohol. There aren’t any drink packages like you’ll find on many other cruises. Instead, you can choose to pay in advance in the form of a bar tab, or as you go. If you choose to pre-pay your bar tab, you’ll get a bonus based on how much you spend.

There are numerous bars on the ship, from the rooftop pool bar to the ship’s own tap room, where you can order a beer growler to take elsewhere on the ship. And with the cruise line’s app, you can order a glass of Champagne to be delivered to you anywhere on board with just a quick shake of your phone.

For a pick-me-up, you can find all kinds of caffeinated brews at Grounds Club, and free Intelligentsia coffee is served in different venues on the ship. Travelers can also pay extra for cold-pressed juices and barista-made coffee drinks.

Resilient Lady nightlife and shows

The ship’s main hub for evening nightlife is called The Manor. Drinks flow constantly, and nightly acts include live music, comedy and even an adult-themed comedy show with audience participation. You won’t find Broadway-style musicals aboard, but there is a Greek history-inspired song and dance show.

There’s never a shortage of entertainment and talented staff perform all over the ship in bars and lounge areas, so don’t be alarmed if someone dressed as a passenger begins performing for you.

Known as “happenings” or “pop-up moments,” these impromptu improv acts add a bit of intrigue to the cruising experience.

For those who want to belt out some tunes, there’s a karaoke room. Also on the program are a casino, drag shows, fashion shows, bar crawls and even scavenger hunts.

You’ll find arcade games, themed parties (like the Scarlet Night evening) and a full roster of staff-led activities, from dance parties to pool parties.

You can keep an eye on everything by downloading the cruise line's app or asking reception for a printed schedule. It's easy to get around the ship since maps are posted everywhere, and the three sets of elevators are color-coded to help you know where you are (purple is at the front, blue is at the aft).

Resilient Lady inclusions

When sailing aboard Resilient Lady, you won't pay extra for gratuities, Wi-Fi, specialty restaurants or onboard activities. However, you will have to pay extra for alcohol, destination excursions and upgraded Wi-Fi for streaming.

The cruise allows passengers to carry on board two bottles of wine per cabin at embarkation, but no liquor. This can help cut down on the cost of beverages during the sailing. Keep in mind that the drinking age changes based on where the ship is located — in the U.S. it’s 21, while in Europe and international waters the age is 18.

Resilient Lady is a treat

Virgin Voyages has managed to transform the traditional cruise experience into something both upscale, but playful enough, to appeal to all ages.

Rarely feeling crowded, the ship is hardly as large as some of the biggest in the world, and what you'll find on this Richard Branson-born gem is exactly what you would expect from the daring British entrepreneur. Just be sure to pack an appetite, your dancing shoes and a Titanic-sized sense of humor.

Virgin Voyages Launches Month-long Cruise Pass So You Can Work From Paradise — What to Know

Passholders can choose from four different cruises throughout the summer onboard its Scarlet Lady ship.

virgin option voyage

Courtesy of Virgin Voyages

Adults-only cruise line Virgin Voyages is making it easier to work from the high seas this summer with a new seasonal pass that comes with everything necessary for a WFH setup — plus a few extra perks.

The pass, called the Scarlet Summer Season Pass , is valid for a month-long journey on board the cruise line’s Scarlet Lady ship sailing across the Mediterranean Sea, according to the company . The pass starts at $9,990 for two people, which Virgin notes is a 30 percent savings off the cost of a typical cruise fare. All Virgin Voyage cruises include WFH essentials like free Wi-Fi and drip coffee, but the pass also includes a $10 daily coffee credit per cabin for that extra espresso boost along with wash and fold laundry services so you look your best on Zoom calls.

Passholders can choose from four different cruises  in June, July, August, and September.

“If you’ve been wondering if your work-life balance could use a little more life , we have the voyage offer for you,” the company wrote in a statement. “Inspired by Richard Branson’s belief and track record that brilliant work is best paired with a hearty dose of fun, experience for yourself how four weeks exploring coastal towns in France, Spain, and Italy might be the exhilarating buoy you've been needing.”

When you’re not working, summer pass holders get early access to dining reservations and shore excursion bookings as well as access to Richard’s rooftop, a private outdoor deck typically reserved for suite guests. And to toast their summer office, Virgin will give pass holders a complimentary bottle of bubbly to welcome them aboard.

To secure a summer pass, travelers must fill out a form online and select the month they want to sail. The cruise line will then update the status of the requested booking within 72 business hours. Once booked, the pass is non-refundable.

Virgin Voyages , which was recently named one of the best cruise lines for 2024 by Travel + Leisure , first launched in 2021 with its debut ship, the Scarlet Lady . The company then expanded with its second ship, the Valiant Lady , before adding a third ship, the Resilient Lady .

Level Upgrade - bidding for a room upgrade.

Cool Cruiser

A total Newbie to VV, so any help would be appreciated. We are eligible to bid for an upgrade, but we don't know the best practice to do so.  Should we apply for EVERY room we would like, or start one by one from the top down. Only reapplying if our bid was not successful.  Also how much is a realistic bid? $100 for a $2500 room probably isn't realistic, right. Also, when would we know if the bid as accepted or not? We saw 48 hours, but that must have been 48 before sailing right, not placing a bid. I'm sure they are still trying to sell these rooms.

Any assistance navigating these waters 😉 , would be greatly appreciated. We are only interested in bidding for a suite.

Welcome to Level Upgrade. Let's get you upgraded in three short steps.

Here's how it works:

1. Browse the cabin & suite options below and select the amount you want to bid.

2. We'll notify you via email if your request for an upgrade has been approved.

If your offer is accepted, you'll be billed for the upgrade. If not, you pay nothing and keep the stateroom you have.

Note: The bid offered for the upgrade is in addition to the price of your original cruise ticket.

One issue with bidding on suites is availability, they’ll offer the bidding even if all the suites are booked. For my December and March trips all the suites are booked, this July’s trip still has suites available. There is a minimum bid you can put in, that’s the from amount they have listed. In order to bid on the Sweet Aft, your minimum bid would be $1,400. I sent in a bid a few hundred over the minimum on a the sweet aft and seriously suite. We’ll find out 48hrs before we sail. The best way to get a suite is to book as soon as the sailing becomes available, after that the price goes up really fast.

Like

So you bid on anything you are interested in all at the same time. If any of your bids clear only one will, and the rest will be denied. As the previous poster said, there is a minimum bid for each room category, and also the issue of availability for suites. I've only done the bidding once, from a LVT to a Central Sea Terrace, and I think I bid very near the bare minimum for that and got it.

Thanks

Thanks all.

Didn't know the "from" was a minimum bid.

For the Central and XL options above, these "from" prices are the difference it was going to cost me at the original booking price.

Will pass this time around.

Thanks for the clarity all.

_tacocat_

It seems to be a complicated algorithm with a bunch of levers hah.  It all hinges on availability first, and then I believe they start upgrading chains of rooms that would maximize ancillary revenue.

A maximum of 1 of your bids will be accepted, and that would be the 1 that fit into that upgrade chain.

could you get an upgraded room for cheaper than booking it outright? Maybe.  Is it likely at this point as voyages get more full? Probably not.

We booked lock it in limited view and then got an upgrade to central sea terrace at the minimum bid of £185. Saved around £800 compared to booking the regular terrace upfront.

The first rule is to always book a cabin where you will be happy.  Yes, people do get upgrades from bidding, but getting a suite is very unlikely as they are normally sold out. People typically hear whether their bid was accepted 2-7 days before embarkation.  People who did "Lock it in" are sometimes notified that they've been upgraded (free) before those bidding! Step 1--it all depends on availability.  Suites are usually sold out, but there is always the possibility of a last minute cancelation.

Step 2--they have a weird algorithm that takes into account what you originally paid for your room and what you bid as well as what your current room is.   VV's goal is to maximize the revenue they can get on any cruise. THey list only the upgrades that you are eligible to bid for and the minimum bid.  These are per cabin, not per person.  The reason they care what you are currently assigned to is that they may be able to move someone else to your currently assigned room if you are upgraded.

Step 3--how much to bid.  This is a mystery, but a general rule is to NOT bid the minimum as a lot of people do that. Go a little higher with a "strange" number.  For instance, the minimum bid for the XL is $350.  Decide what you max bid is, and then make it "weird."  If your max is $400, bit $403 or $407.  People tend to pick numbers that end with 0 or 5.  Make your bid that little bit different.   Step 4--at embarkation, there is a desk on the check in floor that sometimes is selling upgrades at a set price.  They have a chart of the type of room you are in and what it would cost to upgrade.  You can always check there if you are still interested.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, just had the email about upgrading for our August cruise.

When I go through the process to upgrade, choose a price on the slider, enter card details, the system spins for a bit and the I get this message:

"We are unable to process your request at this time. If you've only recently made your reservation, please try back again in 24 hours."

I booked months ago so it can't be because of a recentbooking, anyone else getting this issue?

I tried ot about a week after I booked and got an immediate confirmation reply that I was in the running.

10,000+ Club

If you booked through a 3rd party agent they can go into the booking engine and tell you what inventory is still available. That's not to say others are not bidding to upgrade from currently occupied cabins, but will give you an idea of what you *may* get if you bid, and if the location is acceptable to you or not.

I contacted Virgin Cruises through their Chat service today, this the answer I finally had:

"I recommend giving it another try later because it looks like its a glitch on the website."

Seems like virgin voyages has 2 experiences.

Onboard and offboard.

Onboard apps and Customer Service seems great and egar to help.

Offboard, the technology and customer service experience are extremely lacking.

I have sent 1 email and 3 follow ups and haven't heard back from anyone.  Have called in too using long distance, which has netted 0 help.

I've gotten the best results when I use the prompt for IT issues (when that is my problem).  The land based Sailor Services people have improved over the last 18 months, but the often don't have a clue how to handle situations (are you able to hold for a few minutes while I contact my supervisor?).  That's the good.  If you ever get Raoul, he is amazing.  The others.....friendly, polite, but not generally helpful.  I use a "first mate" who gives great customer service and let her deal with VV for me most of the time.

Not necessarily. I don't know if VV's doing it but some cruise lines are now purposely holding back some suites and cabins specifically for the bidding process. It's getting to be nuts. I miss the old days when you might be surprised at the Terminal with "We have a suite available, would you like us to move you into that cabin?" and that's all there was to it. 🙂

I never got anything that good, even  25 years ago.  We were once informed that the Roy suite was available on our DCL cruise,  as a paid upgrade at the terminal. (I asked how this happened as those suites are booked thru a different system than normal cabins and typically have a waiting list.  The CM said that there had been a medical emergency in the family and the entire family decided to cancel the cruise "just in case."). I couldn't justify the price for a suite that sleeps 7 when there were only 2 of us.  The days of free upgrades of any sort seem to be decreasing unless you have a "gty" booking.  But then, the lines exist to make a profit, and if they can sell someone a nicer cabin for even $100, it makes sense to do that rather than "give" it away.   If they don't do bidding upgrades or if there aren't enough people bidding, many lines also sell upgrades at the terminal. I was made aware a few days ago that a suite had opened up on our upcoming cruise; it was gone within minutes!

8 minutes ago, cantgetin said: I was made aware a few days ago that a suite had opened up on our upcoming cruise; it was gone within minutes!

I was talking to the Future Cruise Desk folks on our last Scarlet sailing asking how the Cheeky Corner Suites seem to disappear in minutes every time they release their new bookings. We loved ours on the original Scarlet Lady cruise, but it can be near impossible to book them sometimes.

He said some TAs are putting together Circles (Groups) to hold blocks of cabins as soon as the sailings come up. They can do that for 30 days. When those 30 days are up, if 10 cabins have not been sold in the Circle, the unsold cabins get released back into the inventory. This can include the Rockstar Suites so it's possible that's why that suite popped up for you.

That's exactly what I've been told by a couple of "first mates."  And if a suite returns to inventory, there is nothing to stop another TA from grabbing it within minutes.  They always seem to be occupied on my cruises.  No worries, I'm very happy with my Sea Terrace.

Replying to my own post - it seems that the problem is Apple's safari web browser. Everything went through first time using Firefox. Might be a tip for others.

Appreciate the insight, it makes sense from the cruise lines perspective, kind of to bummer for us. I was able to snag a Cheeky Corner for $1300 over the cost of an XL on Brilliant when they released itineraries. Was going for a Seriously Suite, but they all booked up by the next morning. Virgin is not have an issue selling the Rockstar cabins.

This is pretty annoying, and it’s been going on for quite some time.  I’ve had a few voyages where all suites were “sold out” for months, only to flood inventory a few weeks before the voyage.  I can’t imagine it helps VV in the long run either, as there are people who would be willing to book the suite up front at a higher all-in rate than the upgrade bidders.

Circles should need names associated with the rooms to book an actual cabin, or they should only allow the placeholder rooms to be sea terrace (largest quantity of rooms in that category!) by default if there is no specific guest associated, then allow the booking of another category once a guest is identified.

41 minutes ago, Fogcityca13 said: Virgin is not have an issue selling the Rockstar cabins.

The problem is TAs grab them in their “circles,” but don’t end up booking them, so they get released, then scooped up quickly by another circle.  There were a ton of people on my January/February voyages on valiant and scarlet who got cheap upgrades at the end because a ton of suites ended up back in inventory, after having been “sold out” for months.

VV could sell them outright for more than they’re getting via bids (demand is clearly there!!), so I’m not sure why they let those TA games continue.

Totally agree that "First Mates" should not be able to hold suites without a name attached.  I've worked with agents who keep a "wait list" of people who want suites.  When the sailings are released, they can grab something on a 24 hour hold, allowing time to get in contact with the client regarding price and any other specifics....the client then pays the downpayment or releases the cabin.  And if released, all the other "first mates" as well as those people booking on their own have a chance at the cabin.   Pricing is an interesting consideration.  I have 2 cruises booked on VV (sea terrace) which have doubled in price since I booked them.  Yes, I booked early and it seems they have become quite popular.  It would seem that even an early booking, potentially at a lower fare, in a suite would still result in more profit than a bid later on.  Suites are popular and VV doesn't seem to have any trouble filling them.

Same here, we booked our Valiant Lady Thanksgiving cruise a while ago around $2500 for a Sea Terrace, now over $5000 for the same cabin category. That cruise must be selling well. 🙂

Google Chrome is recommended by most every cruise line site for browser choice. Apple seems to put a LOT of security 'safeguards' in place that end up disrupting your workflow in some sites.

Virgin Voyages: What to Pack Essentials for Your Cruise Adventure

By Author Mary Ware

Sharing is caring!

Embarking on a Virgin Voyages cruise is an exciting opportunity to explore a fresh and innovative way to experience the high seas. While this cruise line offers a contemporary and unique take on traditional cruising, it still leaves many first-time and veteran cruisers wondering what to pack for their upcoming journey. In order to make the most of your Virgin Voyages cruise, it is essential to be prepared with the right attire, essentials, and mindset for your adventure.

Virgin Voyages has established a more relaxed and laid-back approach to the dress code compared to other premium cruise lines, making this an important consideration when packing your suitcase. With a focus on a “wear what you want” attitude, guests are given the freedom to express themselves through their clothing choices and enjoy the various experiences onboard without the constraints of strict dress codes. This also applies to the various dining and entertainment options offered by the cruise line, so it is important to be prepared for a diverse range of activities during your voyage.

By taking the time to pack thoughtfully and efficiently for your Virgin Voyages cruise, you can ensure that you are well-equipped to take full advantage of the innovative and exciting offerings this cruise line presents. Anticipating the right clothing and essentials for your cruise will not only make your experience more convenient and enjoyable but also enable you to fully immerse yourself in the uninhibited and free-spirited atmosphere that Virgin Voyages is known for.

Essential Travel Documents

Passport and visa requirements.

Before embarking on your Virgin Voyages cruise, it is crucial to have the appropriate travel documents. All travelers, including U.S. citizens, are required to sail with a valid passport , even if the voyage is a closed-loop sailing (starting and stopping at the same U.S. port). Ensuring that your passport has at least six months of validity beyond your travel dates will help avoid any potential issues.

If your Virgin Voyages trip includes visiting countries like Cuba, additional documentation may be necessary, so it’s essential to review the visa requirements for your specific itinerary. Make sure to acquire any required visas well in advance to avoid last-minute issues.

Cruise Paperwork

Apart from your passport and visas, Virgin Voyages require specific cruise paperwork to embark on your journey. Keep the following documents handy to ensure a smooth embarkation process:

Booking Confirmation: Remember to bring a printed copy of your Virgin Voyages booking confirmation, which includes essential details such as your reservation number, cabin number, and departure date.

COVID-19 Vaccination Card: As part of their Voyage Well Protocols , Virgin Voyages require all guests to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Bring your original vaccination card as proof of vaccination.

Travel Insurance Documentation: Although not mandatory, it’s recommended to have travel insurance for your Virgin Voyages cruise. Bring a copy of your travel insurance policy and ensure it covers the specific requirements for your trip, including medical emergencies and trip cancellations.

Packing Tips and Guidelines

Clothing essentials.

When packing for a Virgin Voyages cruise, focus on clothing items that make you feel comfortable and represent the best version of yourself 1 . Some essential items to pack include:

  • Comfortable daytime outfits: shorts, t-shirts, and casual dresses
  • Swimwear: swimsuits, cover-ups, and flip-flops
  • Evening attire: stylish casual wear, such as dresses, skirts, or nice pants, and a collared shirt for men
  • Activewear: workout clothes, running shoes, and reusable water bottles

Remember to pack enough clothing for the duration of your cruise and consider the cruise destinations’ climates.

Toiletries and Personal Items

Here are some essential toiletries and personal items to pack for your cruise:

  • Travel-sized toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and toothpaste
  • Sun protection: sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, and a wide-brimmed hat
  • Prescriptions and over-the-counter medications: pain relievers, motion sickness remedies, and allergy medicines
  • Miscellaneous personal items: sunglasses, reusable shopping bags, and a refillable water bottle

Don’t worry about packing a hair dryer, as the one provided in the cabins is sufficient 2 .

Gadgets and Electronics

Packing the right gadgets and electronics can enhance your cruise experience. Here are some items to consider:

  • Smartphone with a reliable international data plan (if applicable)
  • Portable charger or power bank to keep your devices charged
  • Travel adapters for electrical outlets, if necessary
  • A small travel-sized clothing iron or steamer, as most cruises, including Virgin Voyages, do not provide them in cabins 3

Remember to pack all your chargers and necessary cables. Additionally, it’s a good idea to bring a carry-on bag or hand luggage with essentials like medications, electronics, and a change of clothes, in case your checked luggage gets delayed or lost 4 .

What Not to Pack

When preparing for a Virgin Voyages cruise, it’s essential to know what items you should leave behind. Packing the right items will ensure a seamless travel experience. This section outlines some of the items you should not pack for your trip.

First and foremost, avoid bringing any weapons on board. This includes firearms, knives, and other objects that could be considered a threat to the safety of other passengers and crew. Security checks will be in place to ensure these items are not brought on board, and possession of such objects can lead to denied boarding or even legal consequences.

Additionally, leave behind personal appliances such as hair dryers, as Virgin Voyages provides high-quality hair dryers in each cabin. This will not only save space in your luggage but also ensure you adhere to the ship’s electrical safety guidelines.

Here’s a quick list of items to exclude from your packing list:

  • Weapons (firearms, knives, etc.)
  • Personal hair dryers or styling tools
  • Household appliances (irons, humidifiers, etc.)
  • Illegal drugs or substances
  • Alcoholic beverages (though some may be allowed with a corkage fee)
  • Large speakers or sound systems

By following this guide, you’ll be prepared for a smooth sailing experience on your Virgin Voyages cruise. Be sure to double-check the cruise line’s policies to avoid any packing mishaps, and enjoy your trip!

Virgin Voyages Dress Code

Daytime attire.

During the day, Virgin Voyages encourages guests to dress comfortably and casually. There’s no strict dress code for daytime activities. You can wear whatever makes you feel confident and at ease. Some popular options include:

  • Shorts and light t-shirts
  • Sundresses or comfortable skirts
  • Swimwear with a cover-up when walking around the ship
  • Sandals, flip-flops, or sneakers

Just remember to pack essentials like sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.

Evening Dress Code

When it comes to the evening dress code, Virgin Voyages promotes a more relaxed vibe than other cruise lines. You won’t find any formal nights or strict dress codes onboard. Instead, you’re encouraged to wear outfits that make you feel amazing , and it’s always a good idea to glam up a bit for the full-service restaurants like Test Kitchen or The Wake. Some fashionable options for the evening include:

  • Dressy pants or jeans with a stylish top
  • Elegant dresses or jumpsuits
  • Smart-casual blazers and slacks for men
  • Dress shoes or classy sandals

Remember, the key is to feel comfortable while looking put-together.

Scarlet Night Party

Scarlet Night is Virgin Voyages’ unique twist on the traditional formal night. During this event, guests are encouraged to incorporate a touch of red into their attire. The dress code for the Scarlet Night party is flexible; you can wear an entirely red outfit or just add a splash of color with a red accessory. Some ideas for Scarlet Night attire include:

  • A red dress, shirt, or jacket
  • Red accessories like scarves, ties, or handbags
  • Consider creative red makeup or nail polish

Ultimately, Virgin Voyages is all about encouraging guests to express themselves and have a great time. So be sure to pack attire that makes you feel confident and reflects your personal style.

Dining and Drinking on Board

Dining options.

Virgin Voyages offers a variety of dining options on board, ensuring all taste buds are catered to. Among the notable restaurants are:

  • Pink Agave : A Mexican-themed restaurant with an intimate atmosphere.
  • The Wake : A sophisticated steak and seafood house for a more formal dining experience.
  • The Test Kitchen : A experimental culinary lab offering multicourse meals and unique creations.
  • Extra Virgin : A chic Italian trattoria specializing in delicious pasta dishes.
  • Gunbae : An interactive Korean BBQ experience where you grill your own meats and vegetables.

Clothing for dining experiences should be casual but stylish; think jeans, sneakers or dress shoes, and collared shirts for men, and dresses or blouses for women. No need for black-tie attire.

Alcoholic Beverages and Drink Packages

Virgin Voyages has a wide range of alcoholic beverages and drink packages to choose from. Here are some highlights:

When it comes to choosing the right drink package, consider your individual preferences and how much you plan to indulge. Some packages include select wines, beers, and cocktails, while others offer a more premium experience:

  • Basic Package : Select beers, wines by the glass, and well drinks.
  • Premium Package : A wider variety of beers, wines, and top-shelf spirits.

It’s important to note that Virgin Voyages does not offer a traditional buffet-style dining option. However, they make a conscious effort to provide healthier meal choices in venues like their Food Hall and provide room service for those who prefer to dine in the comfort of their stateroom.

While on board, don’t forget to take advantage of other unique amenities, such as entertainment options, pools, and the stunning Bimini destination. With so much to experience, make sure to pack accordingly and enjoy the innovative, exciting world of Virgin Voyages.

Onboard Facilities and Entertainment

Spa and wellness offerings.

Virgin Voyages offers a variety of spa and wellness offerings onboard their ships. The spacious spa facilities provide an inviting atmosphere for relaxation and rejuvenation. You can enjoy treatments such as massages, facials, and more. The fitness center onboard is well-equipped, offering classes and personal training sessions for health-conscious sailors.

Pools and Outdoor Spaces

The Scarlet Lady, a hip and modern cruise ship from Virgin Voyages, provides sailors with several pools and outdoor spaces for relaxation and fun. The main pool area offers ample lounging space, while the more secluded top deck has a hammock grove for quiet moments of reflection. Many itineraries also include stops at beautiful shore locations, like Florida and the Caribbean, so you can explore and enjoy the outdoors during your cruise.

Casino and Nightlife

Virgin Voyages’ adults-only cruises offer a vibrant nightlife scene, including a casino for those looking to test their luck. The ship also has a variety of bars and lounges, each with its own unique ambiance. From relaxed spaces for a quiet drink to lively clubs for dancing the night away, there’s something for every evening mood onboard.

Activities and Shows

A wide range of activities and shows are offered on Virgin Voyages cruises, ensuring there’s never a dull moment. Instead of traditional Broadway-type performances, Virgin Voyages presents innovative live shows like “Never Sleep Alone” and various other on-stage events. The ship’s Test Kitchen and Galley provide interactive culinary experiences, and the Sailor App makes it easy to stay connected and informed about daily happenings with onboard WiFi.

Remember to pack light, comfortable clothing for daytime activities, and attire suitable for the evening, taking into account the relaxed dress code on Virgin Voyages. Enjoy your journey aboard this cruise line, and make the most of the many unique offerings tailored to a modern, adults-only trip at sea.

Booking and Payment Information

Deposit and payment options.

When booking a Virgin Voyages cruise, you’ll be required to make a deposit to secure your reservation. The amount of the deposit will vary depending on the length of your voyage. Payment options typically include major credit cards, such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. It’s essential to plan accordingly and be aware of payment deadlines to avoid any cancellation of your reservation.

Taxes and Fees

In addition to the cruise fare, Virgin Voyages will have additional taxes and fees that are added to your total. These may include:

  • Port taxes and fees, which cover the cost of docking in various ports of call
  • Government taxes and fees, which are mandatory charges imposed by the destination countries

Make sure to factor these additional costs into your budget when planning your trip.

Gratuities and Service Charges

Virgin Voyages has a no-tipping policy, meaning that gratuities are already included in your cruise fare. This policy ensures that all crew members are fairly compensated for their service without guests needing to worry about additional payments.

It is worth noting, however, that some extra services, such as spa treatments, may incur additional service charges. Make sure to read the fine print when booking these services, so you’re aware of any extra fees involved.

In summary, when booking a Virgin Voyages cruise, be prepared for the deposit requirements, payment deadlines, as well as additional taxes, fees, and service charges. Planning ahead will ensure a smoother booking experience and help avoid any unexpected surprises.

I work from a cruise ship for 3 months a year. Here's how I stay productive at sea.

  • Walter Biscardi runs his travel business remotely from cruise ships for three months each year.
  • He said WiFi reliability has improved, but video calls and finding power outlets can be challenging.
  • Biscardi recommends Virgin Voyages for remote workers because of the spaces to work and the WiFi.

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Walter Biscardi, a 59-year-old travel agent based in Orlando. The following has been edited for length and clarity.

I used to work in film, television, documentary, and marketing, and I ran two creative agencies in Atlanta for 25 years.

A few years ago, my wife and I turned my second passion, travel, into " Where's Walter Travel ." We specialize in travel planning services for cruises , group vacations, theme park tours, and company retreats.

We live in an Orlando rental, but I run the travel-planning business from a cruise ship for three months out of the year.

We started taking advantage of our remote working situation after the pandemic

In a few short years of working on cruise ships, I've noticed that more and more people are starting to do the same thing.

We predominantly cruise the Caribbean. Last year, our three months were spread over six different trips on the Royal Caribbean , Oceania , Virgin Voyages , and Carnival cruise lines. If it were up to me, I'd be at sea for six months a year, but my wife prefers three.

This year, we'll be back on Virgin Voyages in June and on the Sun Princess in October. We're planning a few more, too.

WiFi speed and reliability onboard ships have been game-changers

I don't always look for speed but rather consistency and reliability.

Even though the WiFi is reliable on most ships , it's still not perfect, and you need to manage your expectations. The WiFi on ships is satellite-based, so the signal will be slower if there's a lot of cloud cover. Rain may also temporarily cut it out completely.

The WiFi signal in rooms can be weak. When I get on board, I walk around public places, look at the ceiling, and find the repeaters , which amplify the router's signal . I park myself under a repeater to work, so at least I know I'm getting the fastest signal.

Video calls can be dicey, but voice calls over WiFi work well

Most of my work is using emails, social media apps, and a web browser, so I don't tend to have problems. The upload speed is the most difficult thing about working on a cruise ship.

Working from a cruise ship might not be for you if you're required to upload a video to YouTube or be on video for 100% of your Zoom calls. Zoom with video turned off works well. I post TikToks all day, but uploading to YouTube will fail almost every time.

Turn off your cell service on the ship, even if you have unlimited roaming overseas. Phones use satellite maritime cellular, and it's ridiculously expensive. I've heard of people who have come home with $1,000 cellular bills because they didn't turn off their roaming.

I can typically make most of my calls over WiFi, but you won't be able to on some ships. Texting from ship to land usually works well if you're using the same type of phone as the person you're messaging, but when you're texting cross-platform, sometimes it doesn't work.

Finding power outlets can be challenging

Typically, if you need to put in a full day of work connected to power, you need to stay in your room. One tip to finding power when you're looking around public areas is to see where they plug in the vacuum cleaners.

I strongly recommend bringing a powerboard with multiple USB sockets. I have one with 10 USB connections, so I can charge my phone, GoPro, and other devices simultaneously.

Virgin Voyages ships are the most friendly for remote workers

The galley on a Virgin Voyages ship is set up like a coffee shop, with easily accessible power and USB sockets at the table. There are dozens of outlets, as they're inviting people to bring their laptops and work from the ship.

I usually upgrade to the premium WiFi option, which can cost anywhere from $19 to $39 per day on most lines, but Virgin only charges $10 per day to upgrade.

I work in an office at home, so working on a cruise is a big change

I operate at sea as I do on land, with the same office hours available to my clients other than when I know we're going on an excursion.

Cruise ships are comparable to remote working spaces, but they offer so much more. On a cruise, almost everything is included: breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, entertainment, and most amenities.

If I want to take a break from work, I go to the pool. When I finish for the day, I'll go to the theater to see a show.

Meeting places are usually free on a cruise ship. Generally, all you have to do is reserve a conference room. AV facilities are usually included too, although you may have to pay a setup fee.

Remember to be respectful — many people are on board for a vacation. I've been out by the pool and seen people taking business calls on speakerphone, which is ridiculously annoying.

I suggest picking at least one port on every cruise and make it a 'ship day'

About 75% of people will get off the ship at any port, so staying on board feels like you have the whole place to yourself.

Activities like the pools will still be open, and the spas will often discount their services by 20-40% on port days.

Of course, I still recommend getting off and exploring as much as possible — that's what cruises are for.

This cruise line will match your hotel and airline loyalty status – for 3 days only

Ashley Kosciolek

Are you a sucker for a status match? If free coffee, a cocktail reception and free laundry service sound like perks you'd enjoy on your next vacation, listen up. For three days only, Virgin Voyages will extend its existing status match offer to include airline and hotel loyalty status matches.

Members of Virgin Voyages' Sailing Club loyalty program have been able to match with other cruise lines' loyalty programs for a while. However, if you have airline or hotel status, now could be the time to book that voyage you've been considering.

Here's all you need to know to take advantage of this offer.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

What's the deal?

Book one of several select cruises with Virgin Voyages from Wednesday to Friday, submit proof of your loyalty status on Virgin Voyages' website by Friday, and you'll be automatically moved to Blue Extras, the second tier of Virgin Voyages' three-tier Sailing Club program. You'll be awarded the corresponding perks, starting on your first cruise following the match. (Rates start at $149 per person, per night for four-night sailings.)

Perks include one free bag of laundry to be sent out and returned to your cabin, one free specialty coffee per day and a cocktail reception.

Which brands will Virgin Voyages match?

virgin option voyage

This promotion will take loyalty status match requests into account for the following major airline and hotel brands:

  • United Airlines MileagePlus
  • American Airlines AAdvantage
  • Delta Air Lines SkyMiles
  • Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards
  • Frontier Airlines Miles
  • JetBlue TrueBlue
  • Marriott Bonvoy
  • Hilton Honors
  • World of Hyatt
  • Choice Privileges
  • IHG One Rewards
  • Wyndham Rewards
  • Radisson Rewards
  • Best Western Rewards

Virgin Voyages will also match your status if you are a loyal repeat traveler with another cruise line, but that offer is ongoing. The cruise line will continue to consider cruise line status matches after this deal ends.

What's the catch?

The obvious caveat is that you must book a cruise for your hotel or airline match to be considered.

You also can't be at the lowest tier within your airline's or hotel's loyalty program. Entry-level tiers don't qualify for the match. It's not enough to just be enrolled in a loyalty program. You must have earned some status within it first.

Additionally, this isn't a traditional type of match. Regardless of the level you've reached with your airline or hotel, you will only be awarded middle-tier status — Blue Extras — with Virgin Voyages. This promotion won't earn you the perks of Deep Blue Extras — the highest tier — no matter how elite you are elsewhere.

Which other cruise lines offer status matches?

Status matches are not common in the world of cruising. The only line that offers matches to cruise lines, hotels and airlines is MSC Cruises. MSC's matching program awards passengers status based on the loyalty level they submit for consideration. The drawbacks are that major U.S. airlines aren't yet part of the program, and if you don't cruise within three years of obtaining your status match, you'll lose it.

The only other megaship cruise lines that allow status matches are Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises — but only with one another since they're sister brands. If you have status with one, you can submit a request to have it matched with the other.

Bottom line

Virgin Voyages prides itself on being a bit of an outlier in the cruise industry. The line has refreshingly managed to turn cruising on its head by eliminating buffets, hiring a resident drag queen and installing tattoo parlors on its ships.

Its current Sailing Club loyalty program hotel and airline status match is a great way to earn status and perks with a cruise line that offers a different way to cruise.
