voyager auto

  • Low pricing for the minivan class
  • Excellent all-around visibility
  • Second- and third-row seats aren't as roomy or comfortable as rivals
  • Nine-speed transmission occasionally exhibits clunky or slow shifts
  • Seat padding is firm

What's new

  • Improved collision warning, pedestrian detection and automatic braking systems
  • Part of the second Voyager generation introduced for 2020

The Chrysler Voyager is, simply put, a less expensive version of the Chrysler Pacifica. We're all for less expensive, but there are a few trade-offs. For example, you don't get the Pacifica's nifty second-row Stow 'n Go seats that easily fold into the floor when not needed. Instead, to create maximum cargo storage capacity in the Voyager, you must unlatch and remove the second-row seating.

Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2021 Chrysler Voyager L 4dr Minivan (3.6L 6cyl 9A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.55 per gallon for regular unleaded in North Dakota.

Now, for the 2021 model year, there is further separation between a Pacifica and a Voyager. The Pacifica gets a styling refresh, wider availability of all-wheel drive, a new Pinnacle luxury trim level and more. The Voyager does not. Aside from improved safety technology, it is the same as it was in 2020.

Chrysler does, however, pass a torch to the 2021 Voyager. Now that the positively ancient Dodge Grand Caravan has gone to that big scrapyard in the sky, the Voyager stands as the least expensive minivan on the market. But you might find that spending a little more to get the more fully featured Pacifica, or other vans such as the Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna, will be worth it in the long run.

Select a year

  • Lows Few frills, no standard driver-assistance features, Stow 'n Go seats not offered for second-row.
  • Verdict This renamed and de-contented Chrysler minivan covers the basics but it sure doesn't pamper.

What's New for 2021?

Not much has changed on the Voyager for 2021, but Chrysler has improved the van's optional driver-assistance hardware to include updated radar and camera sensors which can detect pedestrians and alert the driver or attempt to mitigate an accident. The Voyager's suite of driver-assistance features remains optional for 2021, as part of the Safety Tec package.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2021 Chrysler Voyager starts at $29,655 and goes up to $32,365 depending on the trim and options.

Unless you're prepared to go with the barest-boned minivan on the market, we recommend you look at the LX. While neither trim provides much in the way of amenities, the LX at least offers a more compliant suspension tune than the L as well as automatic headlamps, aluminum wheels (instead of steel), three-zone manual climate control, and superior exterior lighting. Plus, if you want options such as remote start, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, satellite radio, and/or a built-in DVD player to entertain the kiddos, the LX is the only way to go.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Mechanically, the Voyager is identical to the Pacifica, using the same 287-hp 3.6-liter V-6 engine and nine-speed automatic transmission to drive the front wheels. In our testing, the Pacifica managed a 7.3-second sprint to 60 mph. Given this van forgoes some of the features that weigh down its brother, the Voyager likely weighs less than the Pacifica and thus has the potential to beat that time. Don't hold your breath for a hybrid. Chrysler will reserve that powertrain for the pricier minivan in its lineup.

2021 chrysler voyager rear

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

We haven't had the opportunity to test the Voyager on our 200-mile highway fuel-economy loop, but for reference, the last nonhybrid Pacifica we tested achieved 31 mpg. The Chrysler vans both earn EPA estimates of 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The Voyager's 22 mpg combined score betters that of the Kia Sedona and matches that of the Honda Odyssey , both chief competitors.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

As with the exterior styling, powertrain, and chassis, the Voyager's interior mimics that of the Pacifica, albeit with fewer creature comforts. You won't find leather seats, in-dash navigation, automatic climate control, or power-sliding side doors here. What's more, the Voyager provides Stow 'n Go capability only for the rear bench seats. If you want the second row to fold into the floor, you'll need to shell out around $35,000 for the base Pacifica. You can, however, tuck away valuables in the underfloor cubbies in front of the captain's chairs if you opt for the LX trim. Behind the third row, the Voyager boasts the same 32 cubic feet of cargo volume as the Pacifica. So while we have yet to put this van through our practical space tests, we feel safe saying that the Voyager will be able accommodate what its brother could (i.e., 12 carry-on suitcases with the rear seats up).

Infotainment and Connectivity

Chrysler provides a 3.5-inch digital display in the gauge cluster, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the center stack, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a six-speaker audio system with active noise cancellation. Either trim level provides Bluetooth streaming and integrated voice control, but only the Voyager LX allows for SiriusXM radio. Need to entertain the little ones? A rear-seat overhead DVD player can be had on the LX for $995.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Overall safety rating (nhtsa).

The 2021 Voyager earned a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ), but it wasn't named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ). Looking for driver-assistance features ? You won't find many in the Voyager and nothing of the like is offered as standard. Key safety features include:

  • Available rear parking sensors with rear automated emergency braking
  • Available blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Chrysler's warranty coverage is fairly typical for the class. The Toyota Sienna offers more value here in the form of a two-year/25,000-mile complimentary scheduled maintenance plan.

  • Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
  • No complimentary scheduled maintenance

UPDATE: I added one star back to my original review due to the business owner's prompt response to my review. Understandably, being understaffed can pose unforeseen circumstances. However, I never did receive the email from the owner that he speaks of in his response, so that one-star deduction still remains. Original Review: I never got to actually speak with anyone at Voyager or go through a transaction with them, so it's tough to give a balanced review. What I've done instead is start with 5-stars and then deduct a star for no one being present in the showroom to greet me and answer questions and another star deduction for not responding to my inquiry on their web page after I left still not having encountered a soul at the establishment. I went to Voyager on a Saturday morning to look at a Honda Rebel 300 motorcycle that was listed for sale. The dealership is in the Pearl City Industrial Park and I had no problem finding it. There was plenty of parking when I arrived. There were vehicles for sale both inside and outside their warehouse showroom. Not seeing the bike outside, I walked inside and found several motorcycles for sale including the Honda Rebel 300. The bikes were arranged pretty close together, so I looked for someone that could move the bike out so I could inspect it better and try it on for size but there was no one. I stayed onsite for at least 15 minutes and never saw anyone, so I left. Later that day, I went onto their website and used their online Inquiry tool to give my information and ask if they would entertain a price of $.... I didn't expect an immediate response, but I figured I'd hear something within one business day. Counting the day of my visit, it's now Day 5 and no response whatsoever. Even if Voyager felt my offer was ridiculously low, I would think they would make a counteroffer to keep the dialogue going. I'm still interested in the bike, so if Voyager sees this maybe they'll recheck their Inbox for my inquiry. If so, I'll update my review based on that interaction.

No excuses Barry, but there is a reason. Last Saturday was an unusual day. We are a small company and due to unforseen circumstances we were seriously understaffed that day. I was the only person in the sales department and had to leave the store occasionally to take customers on test drives. I'm sorry I wasn't here to assist you, Barry. I was extremely busy most of the day trying to work with multiple customers by myself and just did the best I could at the time. You could check your inbox also because I replied to your email eleven minutes after it arrived and advised you we are not able to accept your low offer on the motorcycle. Thank you for your interest in the Honda 300. If you are still considering it please give me a call or email and we can set up an appointment to get together. Mike

Mike went above and beyond to make sure my daughter liked her car and it was safe for her. It was a seamless transaction to buy a car here. No wonder they have such good ratings.

Thank you, Tania, for your very nice review of the experience you and Alexis had here at Voyager Auto Sales. We will remain alert to the fact she may need a little extra support while in paradise so she should always call us first if she has any issue with her car. In our experience the best way to ruin a vehicle is to let a friend borrow it or “fix it” so I hope she keeps that in mind. Other than that I wish Alexis a wonderful time while in the Islands including many miles of trouble free driving. Aloha Tania and Alexis!

Sold me a lemon ! 2 days after I bought it the drive axel broke. Then took two weeks to fix. No loaner to get to work. Two weeks later the transmission is out. Mike said I bought it "as is" with no remorse they sold me a bucket of bolts. I have requested my money back and no one has called me back. I know their play they want me to default and just repo the car. Come get it boys... I'm calling action line and going all the way to distroy their reputation.

The Voyager Auto Sales Team has been very accommodating in helping me with a purchase of one of their SUVs for sale. From scheduling a quick test drive for the SUV that I want to the upfront, honest information I received regarding my vehicle's trade-in value to the final purchase. The process was smooth and enjoyable; I didn't feel any pressure to buy any other vehicle nor receive finance through them. Thanks again to Mike and his team for the honest information and nice detailing after I left the garage! I definitely recommend kama'aina and military service members to go with Voyager Auto Sales if you want great service and straight-to-the-point information.

I bought a 1997 Jeep TJ from Mike at Voyager. A long story short Mike stored my Jeep for me while my real estate transaction sluggishly moved to closing. there were a couple of issues that needed to be fixed that showed up after one weekend of driving so the team at voyager had 40 days to fit it in and get er done. Fast forward to my closing and beyond my jeep sat and a hose for the power steering was high press and I needed a new hose. I had to go back to the mainland and Mike said let's take care of it when you come back. Mike truly wanted to fix it as it was leaking from the first weekend that I took the Jeep. the hose needed to be high pressure. I would highly recommend Mike and Dave!!!! thank you voyager auto for having integrity.

I bought a car from Voyager Auto Sales last month and I have been meaning to write a review but kept putting it off. I want to say how impressed I was with the whole experience and pleased with the service I received. Everyone there is very nice and accommodating, yet I never felt any pressure to buy, unlike other places. At the time I was looking, there was another car I was interested in somewhere else, and the business was only a few miles from where I work, which would have been more convenient. But after reading some of the terrible reviews from prior customers, I knew that there was no way I would buy a car from them because I didn't want what happened to them, to happen to me. Voyager is a little hard to find, but worth it. Mike was very patient and answered all my questions and I liked how all their cars come with a CARFAX report, so you know it's history. This made me feel confident that the car wasn't involved in any major accidents which might affect it's performance. Also, their prices are very fair and I was pleasantly surprised when Mike told me that the car I bought came with a 3 month or 5,000 miles warranty. So no lemons. The car is in excellent condition except for some scratches on top of the inside door, but Voyager was nice enough to find some paint that was the exact match of the car, and touch it up so It's hardly noticeable. All in all, I am very happy with my new used car and it's a pleasure to drive. After I bought it, there was a problem with the check engine light so I brought it in, and they ordered a part and put it in at no cost to me. So they stand by their cars. If I'm ever in the market to buy another car, I would not hesitate to buy from them again and would recommend anyone else to check them out.

What a fabulous place to buy a car! Darby, and Mike at Voyager Auto Sales couldn't have made the car buying process easier. After an extensive online search, I found a "unicorn"....a 2019 Kia Sportage with less than 5,700 miles and within my price range!  Did a online inquiry and within minutes received a phone call from Darby. Darby was knowledgeable, open, and transparent. After this brief conversation, I was even more excited about this "unicorn". Completed the online financing application and hurried over to the car lot. I was able to test drive the vehicle and I was sold! After a quick lunch break, I was able to sign and drive off the lot with my "unicorn". This was by far the best car sales experience (no hassles, no high-pressure sales tactics, no b.s.) If you are in the market, you should definitely give these guys a shot as they have a lot of affordable cars that are in good condition. They also have a full service garage to keep your car in tip-top shape!

Mike and EZ were generously helpful and hospitable. EZ made sure I was comfortable with all types of beverages and snacks in the waiting room while I awaited the diagnostic results. They quickly came up with a price estimate and explained my diagnostic results in very easy to understand terms. Once we mail-ordered the parts I need, they went above and beyond to create a solution to secure my broken window during the time I'd be waiting for the parts to arrive in the mail. I feel very taken care of here. I highly recommend working with Mike and Voyager Auto.

Great dealership on island with fare pricing on quality stock. I went to 4 dealerships in a matter of days looking for a solid used car with under 100k for around $4-$5k. Voyager was the only one who had something in my lower price range in good condition with low mileage and they got me a low APR on a bank finance. I just moved back to the island and am a Toyota loyal. I tried Craigslist first and bought from a private dealer. Within moments of bringing to my mechanic, I realized I had bought a lemon. Thankfully I was able to return it to the owner, get my cash back and I went straight to the dealerships! No time to mess around with private sellers, who don't know their cars history, don't know or keep info that is important, and possibly too far away like Northshore, etc. I went to Servco and Honda Windward. They were nice and helpful, but didn't have in the price range I needed, nor the Rav4 that I wanted. I found Voyager on Craigslist because they had nice looking Mini Coopers, but I ended up taking a 2008 Yaris with around 90k. They don't like to haggle, but they did give me a few breaks and discounts. Sale was smooth. Super friendly, helpful, and quick. After I left I realized there was a warp in the windshield glass and no mats. I was gonna suck it up; my fault for not saying anything. But the next morning, Mike called to check up/follow up and I took the opportunity to mention the windshield and mats. We made an appointment within a few hours and he got the car cleaned, windshield replaced, and new Mercedes mats (didn't match my car, but they are nice!) - all complimentary - FREE. I appreciate their honesty and quick response to my concerns. They have in house mechanic if anything goes wrong and now I have a lifetime guarantee on my windshield too! Wonderful experience and happy customer. I would completely recommend them for future purchases!

Hi Gail, We have searched our data base and do not find anyone matching your name. No one here can recall your name or any event such as you describe. Are you sure you have the right location? We did not have to search employee records to know we do not have a "Sneaky Bastard." We absolutely take your complaint seriously and would like to discuss it with you if you are indeed referring to Voyager Auto Sales. If you are, I am 100% confident you did not get ripped off and I would like the opportunity to hear your story and find out why you feel that way. There has to be a reasonable explanation but in the meantime let me just say I’m sorry you had a bad experience somewhere. I look forward to hearing from you, Gail. - Mike

The owner ripped us off! He gave us $3000 less than what he said it was worth! Sneaky bastard, we would not buy or sell another car with him. At the beginning he made so nice and thought we could trust him but no he ripped us off!! Bad business man!!!

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

travel itinerary for one week in Moscow

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

12 Stunning National Parks and Regional Parks In France

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

Moscow itinerary

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

things to do in Moscow in seven days

You Will Also Like: 3-Day London Itinerary

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

Random Russian guy

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!

I know very little about Moscow or Russia for the\at matter. I do know I would have to see the Red Square and all of its exquisite architectural masterpieces. Also the CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE SAVIOUR. Thanks for shedding some light on visiting Moscow.

How best to drive a taxi in Moscow

Moscow is a huge metropolis – the capital of the Russian Federation is three times as large and has three times as many inhabitants as Berlin, for example. Of course, getting from A to B is an important topic for visitors and locals alike. The metro is certainly the number one form of transportation in the Russian mega city. But as practical as the subway may be: in the rush hour it can get damn stuffy on the trains – especially in the city center and on the ring line the trains burst at the seams in the morning and in the evening and sometimes you have wait to be able to get in at all. In addition, you cannot get to the airport by metro. The most obvious solution is certainly the taxi. As a foreigner, you have to know a lot about Moscow and taxis. In Soviet times, taxis were affordable, but not competitive in comparison to heavily subsidized public transport. In addition, taxi drivers had a bad reputation and often questionable work ethic. Hardly everyone drove a taxi in Moscow and there were accordingly few. The development in the wild nineties, which were economically difficult for Russia, in which even many doctors, engineers and scientists had to earn something as taxi drivers, was quite different. The so-called “bombily” (from the Russian word bombit’, to earn something extra) came into service. It became common practice that as a pedestrian on the side of the road you only had to keep your hand out and stop a (usually unmarked) taxi or a bombila in a matter of minutes. A short negotiation about the price and you’re on your way. In 2011, the Moscow city administration estimated that in addition to the 5,000 licensed taxis, at least ten times as many black taxis were on the move.

«Black» taxis – not advisable for tourists

For tourists, especially inexperienced Russia, these taxis are anything but advisable. At first you will have communication problems even with kindly Bombila-drivers without knowledge of Russian. Even with proper school Russian, as a tourist you lack the local knowledge and an idea of the usual prices – which is why you are almost at the mercy of the many black sheep among the «black» taxi drivers.

Russia trip planned? Under the following link you can find out how to get the necessary visa!

However, if you have sufficient knowledge of Russian, are clear about the exact route beforehand and can still negotiate well, it may be worth trying the «black» taxis. Because of the increasingly popular taxi apps, the «black» taxis are a slowly but surely dying phenomenon. As a rule of thumb, you shouldn’t pay more than 500 rubles for a trip within Moscow and if the driver demands too much, just keep going.

voyager auto

Taxi apps: Gett, Yandex, or Uber?

Equipped with a SIM card and mobile internet, it is certainly the best option as a tourist to get around using the taxi app. The world’s leading provider Uber only plays a subordinate role in Russia. Although the app also exists in Russia, Uber works here in cooperation with the local top dog Yandex Taxi. Yandex is often referred to as the Russian Google and is also very popular as a taxi service. The Yandex app works similarly to that of Uber. You can see in advance the fare to be paid later, the license plate as well as the vehicle type and the driver’s previous ratings. However, at Yandex you can pay not only with a credit card, but also in cash with the driver. The prices that Yandex calls in Moscow for the so-called Eco tariff are very moderate. The basic fare, which includes a five-minute journey and three kilometers, is 129 rubles, or about $ 1.81. Each additional kilometer then costs 10 rubles, i.e. $ 0.14. Trips to Moscow airports are billed at the normal tariff. However, a pick-up fee of 449 rubles, i.e. $ 6.32, has to be paid from the major international airports Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo to the city. The standard fare will be 8 rubles per 1 km and 8 rubles per 1 minute. Of course, Yandex also offers high-quality transport, analogous to Uber’s offer. From the business tariff, in which you are chauffeured in a limousine from 349 rubles ($ 4.91), to the so-called ultimate tariff, in which you drive through in a Mercedes S-Class from 1899 rubles ($ 26.75) Moscow is driven, the Yandex offer knows no limits. Even vehicles specially equipped for transport for children, with special paint can be ordered via the app. Gett’s competition offers a similar range of products at generally lower prices. The cheapest service in vehicles of the VW Polo class currently starts at 99 rubles ($ 1.39). Trips to Moscow airports cost almost a quarter less than Yandex at 350 rubles ($ 4.93). The VIP service with vehicles that include the BMW 7 Series, the S-Class or the Audi A8 is also significantly more affordable at 700 rubles ($ 9.86) – even if fewer inclusive kilometers are included in the price.

Classic taxi services: Rare and usually only on order

Taxis in the western sense are rarely seen in Moscow. Just wave a taxi up from the street like in Berlin, London or New York? This is rather unlikely because there are simply too few taxis. You have to order a classic taxi in Moscow beforehand. Despite the competition from «black» taxis and the increasingly popular apps, there are still numerous companies that offer this. However, it is usually impossible to order one of these taxis without knowledge of Russian. Services that are specially designed for tourists and foreign business travelers can usually be paid for dearly. Therefore, as a tourist, unless you prefer a taxi app from the start, you leave the order to the hotel or local friends.
