Zach Bryan, Islington Assembly Hall, London live review

Laura Cooney

It’s safe to say that Zach Bryan is something of a music industry sensation. Since he first appeared on the scene with his 2019 debut album ‘DeAnn’, his star has absolutely rocketed, backed by a prolific output and being just as outspoken in life as he is in his lyrics. Fans in the UK have been clamouring for him to play over here and now, at long last, he’s finally crossed the pond for a short tour, including two sold-out nights at Islington Assembly Hall in London.

Arriving on stage around 9pm with his four-piece band to the strains of Kings Of Leon’s ‘Back Down South’, Bryan kicked off his set with ‘Open The Gate’ from his 2022 double album ‘American Heartbreak’. The song really showed off the depth in his vocal as well as some serious belt, and the driving rhythm provided a great showcase for him and his band’s musical talents (shout out to fiddle player Lucas who was a particular highlight of the night!). From the off the packed crowd sang along at top volume – and didn’t let up for the whole show, with Bryan regularly breaking off to let them sing alone – and roared their approval at the end after the acapella final verse.

From then on it was a breakneck journey through an hour and a half of music, with Bryan frequently thanking the crowd and commenting on their loudness. He encouraged them to join in and take the roof off the place throughout, particularly on the likes of ‘Oklahoma City’ and the stomping ‘Condemned’, whilst also asking them to put down their phones and be in the moment on ‘God Speed’. Overall he came across as a very engaged performance and that paid off in spades, with the audience hanging off his every word throughout. Elsewhere, he showed off his storytelling skills on new song ‘Deep Satin’ with its details of the New York streets, which also featured one of the many moments where he and the band stepped onto boxes alongside the stage to jam out with the crowd.

One thing which stood out to me during the show was how much energy Bryan and his band have together, with more mellow recorded tracks taking on a new life. ‘Highways Boys’ was an early example of this, with a more punchy feeling than the recorded version, whilst the strong connection between them all could be seen throughout as he frequently roamed the stage to jam out with them (particularly his head movements as guitarist Nate played the closing riff of ‘Starved’) and gave them opportunities to showcase their skills on the likes of ‘Quittin’ Time’. It elevates what are already outstanding songs and created a moment that made you feel like you were truly immersed in the show and swept away on a ride that wasn’t going to let go.

For me one particular highlight came midway through the show, in a six-song section that kicked off with fan favourite ‘Fifth Of May’ (and the now-obligatory crowd singalong) before launching into a rollicking rendition of ‘Heading South’ and then moving to ‘The Good I’ll Do’, which featured an acapella intro and the audience clapping along. That was followed with ‘Something In The Orange’ – with everyone in the crowd joining in as Bryan showed off his guitar playing skills – as well as a clapalong to the vivid, bittersweet ‘Oklahoma Smokeshow’ and ‘Tishomingo’, which took on a new feeling with the addition of drums and fiddle as Bryan dropped to his knees and bent over backwards whilst singing and playing. I felt this passage really showcased Bryan at his best – both in terms of his talents as a songwriter and a performer – and from the reaction around me it seemed to convert even the least certain audience members to just why he’s become so beloved.

Bryan closed the main part of his set with a fast-paced, rattling performance of ‘Heavy Eyes’ before finishing with ‘Burn, Burn, Burn’, the title track of this tour. I felt that really summed up the performance for me, with its anthemic feel and powerful vocals from Bryan, as well as him and his bandmates cracking open their beers on stage as they all sang together. After telling the crowd “I love you more than you know”, he made his exit briefly before the chants and demands for “one more song!” brought him and the band back on stage to play ‘Revival’. Throughout the whole show, Bryan had promised to blow the roof off, and that’s exactly what they did then. Each band member had the opportunity to play a solo, with Bryan encoring the chorus repeatedly in increasing crescendo. It had a real classic rock feel about, enhanced by Bryan and his band cheersing (and spilling their beers!) on stage, the crowd jumping along and steam practically coming off Lucas’ fiddle, before everyone rose to their feet to give them a standing ovation at the end. It was an absolutely incredible moment and I think it’s safe to say it sent us all away on a high – in the words of Bryan himself, “hope everyone had just as good a time as we have”.

Overall Zach Bryan absolutely lived up to the hype and anticipation. It was truly one of those nights where the relationship between artist and fans is on full show, with Bryan feeding off the energy of the crowd and absolutely giving it his all on stage. He showed his amazing lyrical skills as well as his impressive vocals and top-notch musicianship throughout, and it all made for a spectacular night that will live long in many country fans’ memory. If you’re seeing him tonight in London, you’re in for a treat; if you’re not, I’m pretty sure that given the reception he got (and it was very well deserved despite his protestations), he’ll be back here soon and hopefully playing much bigger venues.

Set list: 1. Open The Gate 2. God Speed 3. Deep Satin 4. Quittin’ Time 5. Highway Boys 6. Fifth Of May 7. Heading South 8. The Good I’ll Do 9. Dawns 10. Something In The Orange 11. Oklahoma Smokeshow 12. Tishomingo 13. Snow 14. Condemned 15. Starved 16. Heavy Eyes 17. Burn, Burn, Burn Encore: 18. Revival Performance date: 24th April 2023

Zach Bryan's 2024 Quittin' Time Tour: Everything We KNow

The 10-month trek kicks off on March 6.

As Zach Bryan finishes the last few dates of his 2023 Burn, Burn, Burn, Tour, he is sharing big plans for next year. This week, the singer announced a 54-date run called Quittin' Time Tour, which will take the singer across the United States and Canada from March through December of 2024.

The tour kicks off March 6 with back-to-back nights in Chicago, Ill. Many cites feature double headers on the tour, as Bryan winds through almost every corner of the U.S. He will visit Canada for two dates in Toronto in March, as well as two shows in Edmonton and one in Vancouver in November. The tour will end in his home state of Oklahoma with two shows in Tulsa on December 13 and 14. The schedule offers a mix of arenas and stadium dates.

Who Is Opening for Zach Bryan's Quttin' Time Tour?

Bryan won't be setting out on his massive 2024 tour alone. He is bringing along a wide range of opening acts, including label mate Levi Turner, who is set to open for every show on the run. Other openers will rotate from show to show, with Jason Isbell and the 400 unit joining him at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Additionally, Sheryl Crow will join him at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, and the Turnpike Troubadours will open for his show at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The rest of the schedule will be filled out by Turner, the Middle East, Sierra Ferrell and Matt Maeson.

How to get tickets for The Quittin' Time Tour

According to Variety , Bryan is partnering with AEG Presents for the tour, and tickets for a majority of the shows will be sold through Ticketmaster. This is a departure from Bryan's past tours, which found him taking a stand against Ticketmaster's selling practices and finding a way to work around the company. AEG Presents is reportedly handling registration and distribution of codes.

Zach Bryan Flips Off Ticketmaster, Aims to Shut Down Scalpers on New Summer Tour

By Jon Freeman

As he promised late last year, Zach Bryan will be largely Ticketmaster-free on a sprawling tour of North America this summer. The singer-songwriter just announced dates for his headlining Burn Burn Burn American Tour 2023, which gets underway May 10 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

“I’ve tried my best to make tickets as affordable as possible for the Burn Burn Burn Tour,” Bryan said in a new video making the announcement. The brief clip features comedian Theo Von spelling out the ticket-buying rules in a wack y infomercial straight out of The Office (there’s even a cameo from Kevin!).

“We’re out here fighting the good fight with these human snakes at ticketing companies and dark-art bots on the internet,” Von quips in the announcement video. “Good luck, and here’s to fair pricing for all.”

Tickets purchased through AXS can’t be sold for profit, but they can be resold for face value to other fans through the Zach Bryan AXS Marketplace. There are also a handful of non-AXS events in London, Ontario; Philadelphia; Nampa, Idaho; and Wichita, Kansas, where no resales at all will be allowed.

Liner Notes: Zach Bryan announces giant tour in 2024; Metallica reigns supreme

Zach Bryan performs July 13 at the Windy City Smokeout festival in Chicago. Bryan plans to start his “Quittin Time Tour” next March.

Perhaps the biggest touring news in recent days comes from country music superstar Zach Bryan, who last week unveiled his plans to hit the road in March. This matters to us for a couple reasons: One, Bryan is a U.S. Navy veteran and this is Stars & Stripes, so you have to love it when synergy like that presents itself. But No. 2 … well, No. 2 is the mere fact that Bryan hasn’t previously toured arenas and – gasp! – stadiums in the way he’s about to in 2024. But here we are.

Dubbed “The Quittin Time Tour,” the trek will be in support of Bryan’s brand new album, creatively titled “Zach Bryan,” which the country singer released on Aug. 25. Opening acts will come complete with star power as well: The Middle East, Sheryl Crow, Turnpike Troubadours and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are among those who will join Bryan. Look for Crow and Isbell to help out on some of the stadium dates – the former is set to join him in Atlanta in August, while the latter will hop on for stadium nights in Foxborough, Mass., and Tampa, Fla., among other locales. All told, the North American run is set to wrap with a pair of nights in Tulsa, Okla., in December 2024. No word on if the singer plans to take the show outside the U.S.

Be it the U.S. … or, well, anywhere else, Pollstar’s Live 75 ranks tours for average tickets sold over the last 30 days and for the first time in maybe forever, Harry Styles did not make the cut this month. Now, if you read this space last month, you’d know there’s a simple reason for that: His tour finally ended. Stepping in to fill those shoes, however, is Metallica, who averaged about 75,000 tickets sold over the last 30 days. The metal gods are taking the Taylor Swift approach to their latest outing, pulling up to stadiums in a city for two or three days at a time. Their next stop will be in Indio, Calif., on Oct. 8, before they head to St. Louis for a two-night stand on Nov. 3 and 5. Perhaps the most surprising addition to this month’s Live 75 look? Iron Maiden, who snuck in at No. 10, averaging about 17,000 tickets sold over the last 30 days.

A band who you probably won’t expect to see on the chart anytime for the rest of 2023 is the Dave Matthews Band. The soft-rockers recently announced the slate for their fall tour … and it amounted to all of eight dates. They’ll hit Virginia, Connecticut and New York twice as part of that run, which begins Nov. 7 in Savannah, Ga. Another noteworthy tour that was announced since the last time we talked will come at the hands of Lauryn Hill, who will celebrate the 25th anniversary of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” by playing arenas in 2024. Spicing things up will be the co-headliner on the bill, which is set to be her other band, The Fugees. While she has some sporadic dates lined up before the Fugees run begins in earnest, she’ll officially welcome Wyclef and Pras beginning Oct. 17 in Newark, N.J. And then finally, there’s Trans-Siberian Orchestra, for all you Christmas-loving concert-goers. Heading out to 62 cities, the holiday tour will wrap Dec. 16 in Pittsburgh …

… Thus proving that contrary to most reports, holiday-based prog-rock is indeed still alive and well.

Happy concert-ing!

Zach Bryan Sets Headlining 2023 Burn, Burn, Burn Tour — See Dates

Zach Bryan is taking off on a major headlining tour this summer, and he's putting his commitment to providing fair prices to fans into action. The "Something in the Orange" singer announced Thursday (Jan. 19) that his Burn, Burn, Burn North American Tour will kick off Wednesday, May 10 at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Va.

The tour boasts 28 headlining dates — it will travel throughout the United States mainly, with one date in Canada. Most of the shows will take place at indoor arenas, with the exception of a two-night stand at Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheatre on June 26 and 27.

The run will close out on Aug. 30 in Kansas City, Mo. at T-Mobile Center.

Bryan is committed to providing reasonable ticket prices for fans, and he even called out Ticketmaster's practices with his recent live album,  All My Homies Hate Ticketmaster. Now, he's making good on his promise by offering tickets through Fair AXS. This system will prohibit ticket resellers from buying a large volume of tickets and reselling them for a profit.

Bryan sent a text message to fans prior to the public announcement of his tour, explaining the process of purchasing tickets.

"Here's what you guys need to know, for the love of God, don't overthink it and don't complain about forty different things," he says. "This is the first time anyone's doing anything like so have some grace."

The singer also shared a humorous, '90s-infomercial type video featuring Theo Von, which explains the ticket buying system.

In summary, fans will need to register with Fair AXS between now and Jan. 29 at 10PM ET to have a chance to buy tickets. Soon after, a randomly selected group of registered fans will be notified via email that they may buy tickets. They will receive purchase information on Feb. 13. There will be a four-ticket limit for the majority of the shows and a two-ticket limit for the Red Rocks shows. Tickets begin at $40 and will not exceed $130. Service fees will be between $10 and $20, excluding credit card fees and state taxes. Tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis.

While tickets purchased to Bryan's shows on Fair AXS cannot be resold for profit, fans who buy tickets to a show but can no longer attend may resell tickets on the Zach Bryan AXS Marketplace for face value. The concerts in London, Ontario, Nampa, Idaho and Wichita, Kansas, are non-AXS ticketed events and may not be resold.

Bryan concludes the text to his fans writing, "We're out here fighting the good fight with these human snakes over at Ticketmaster. Good luck and here's to fair prices for all!"

Zach Bryan Performs New Unreleased Song, ‘Fine Dry’, During UK & Europe Tour

By Maxim Mower

Zach Bryan may be in the middle of a jam-packed UK & European tour schedule, but - unsurprisingly - the prolific singer-songwriter has found time to craft another stellar track.

This week, the Oklahoma native shared a video of him performing a brand new song, ‘Fine Dry’, alongside his band-members. The clip appears to have been taken while Zach and his crew were backstage at Manchester Cathedral, ahead of their show later that evening.

‘Fine Dry’ follows a protagonist that is navigating the new, clarifying territory of a life without alcohol, with Zach crooning wistfully about the realisations this sobriety is bringing.

He laces a combination of contentment and confusion into the lyrics, singing, “I’ve been pining and pining for sweet relief / The kind you can’t find in a woman or some cheap whiskey / And I just got to where I feel fine dry / And for the life of me, I don’t understand why”.

This latest teaser finds Zach testing out some new vocal flourishes and pushing the limits of his previous material, with the ‘Something in the Orange’ hitmaker gliding seamlessly into some haunting falsetto notes, something we've only seen from time to time on tracks such as ‘The Good I'll Do’ and ’Snow’.

Fans wasted no time in asking Zach Bryan to give ‘Fine Dry’ an official release, and we're certainly hoping he'll include it on his upcoming album, Writers and Fighters .

Interestingly, throughout Zach's UK & Europe tour so far, he's been regularly performing another unreleased fan-favourite, ‘Deep Satin’, which is also expected to appear on the new record.
