Foxhills will stage the 2024 International Series England event

The best of the Asian Tour and several LIV Golf stars will be heading to Foxhills Club & Resort in Surrey this August for the International Series England event.

It marks a third straight year that one of the Asian Tour's elevated International Series events will take place in England - and this year it's in the heart of a hotbed of golf in the country.

What also won't go unnoticed is that some big crowds and likely some big LIV Golf names will be teeing it up less than five miles away from DP World Tour headquarters at Wentworth.

The International Series England event will be played on the Longcross Course at Foxhills from 8-11 August 2024.

“Returning to England for a third successive year underscores the continued growth and success of the International Series brand, and the prominent position that we now occupy in the global golfing ecosystem," said head of the International Series Rahul Singh.

“As we have seen over the past two seasons, players from the Asian Tour and around the world love competing at the iconic locations the International Series travels to, and we are delighted to partner with Foxhills on such a fitting venue, to again deliver elite-level sport at a wonderful golfing destination.

“Bringing the International Series to Foxhills offers us a real opportunity to showcase the allure of our product to a cosmopolitan, sports-loving population in and around the London area.”

With a $2 million prize fund, the event is the eighth to be announced of a proposed 10-tournament International Series schedule - which not only has LIV golfers in the field but also serves as offering Asian Tour players a route into Greg Norman's lucrative league.

Andy Ogletree won twice last season - including the England event at Close House - en route to topping the International Series Order of Merit and booking a spot in LIV Golf for this year.

International Series events also carry world ranking points, and with the LIV Golf League still not being recognised by the OWGR  there will be plenty of players looking to chase a few points.

A big fan of watching any golf from any tour, sadly he spends more time writing about golf than playing these days with two young children, and as a big fair weather golfer claims playing in shorts is worth at least five shots. Being from Liverpool he loves the likes of Hoylake, Birkdale and the stretch of tracks along England's Golf Coast, but would say his favourite courses played are Kingsbarns and Portrush.

LIV Golf and Asian Tour stars set to play "International Series England"

Lee Westwood of England pictured during the pro-am event on Wednesday February 1, 2023, ahead of the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers

Global golf stars are lining up to take on the ‘Toon’ at the acclaimed Close House in Newcastle for the US$2 million International Series England from August 17-20, 2023 .

Lee Westwood, the former world number one with 44 career victories – including eight on the Asian Tour – spearheads a cohort of 10 LIV golfers set to wow the crowds over the Colt Course, situated just a few miles from Newcastle upon Tyne.

Despite being born and raised in Worksop, and an ardent Nottingham Forest FC fan, ‘Westy’ moved to the region a number of years ago and struck up a long-standing partnership with Close House as its attached tour professional. Westwood said: “I’ve had the privilege of playing at home in tournament situations before, and there is truly nothing quite like it. Local excitement is building nicely with some of the players confirmed.” “I’ve been embraced by the people of Northumbria since I set up home there; their passion for sport is unrivalled and the full field will feel that during the tournament week – the atmosphere will be tremendous.”

Joining the Majesticks Team co-captain are 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed, 2010 U.S. Open winner Graeme McDowell and this year’s PIF Saudi International victor Abraham Ancer. Like Ancer, whose most recent win netted a share of the US$5 million purse in Saudi Arabia, McDowell will be looking to improve on a single Asian Tour career victory, which came back in 2008 in South Korea. Seven-time Asian Tour winner and LIV Golf player, Anirban Lahiri, will also make his second International Series appearance of the year, following an impressive runner-up finish at the Vietnam event back in April. On that occasion it was Kieran Vincent who emerged victorious, somewhat following in the footsteps of older brother Scott, who earned a place in the 2023 LIV Golf League by topping The International Series 2022 Order of Merit (OOM). Spaniard Eugenio Chacarra and American Jason Kokrak also make International Series returns after teeing it up in the first event on the Asian Tour’s 2023 schedule in Oman. Meanwhile, England’s Richard Bland, Brendan Steele of the United States and South Africa’s Dean Burmester will make their debuts.

Signalling the halfway point of The International Series 2023 season, the event at Close House will be pivotal for players looking to climb The International Series OOM, currently led by the only two-time International Series winner, Andy Ogletree.

As expected, there is already fierce competition to finish within the top 32 places come the end of the season. At that juncture, the player in the no.1 position will punch his ticket directly to the ultra-lucrative 2024 LIV Golf League, while the remaining 31 players will secure entry into the LIV Golf Promotions Event to vie for three further places up for grabs. Among those leading the charge to dethrone the current number one are several of the Asian Tour’s brightest stars, including a quartet of Thai golfers: Gunn Charoenkul, Chonalatit Chuenboonngam, Sadom Kaewkanjan and Phachara Khongwatmai. All currently sit within the top 10 of The International Series OOM and are looking to secure their first International Series wins. Head of The International Series, Rahul Singh, said: “Having the likes of Lee Westwood, Patrick Reed, Abraham Ancer and other LIV stars confirmed for International Series England is demonstrative of the growing strength of The International Series and the allure of the fabulous Lee Westwood Colt Course at Close House. “We are returning to England’s North East after being made to feel so welcome last year, despite restrictions imposed by the pandemic. We are ready to renew the fervour this year and welcome spectators to what stands to be the biggest International Series event yet.”

What is the International Series on the Asian Tour? Is it linked to LIV Golf?

The International Series marks a ground-breaking and unprecedented investment into the Asian Tour by LIV Golf Investments.

asian tour international series england

The International Series was unveiled by the Asian Tour and LIV Golf back in February, marking a huge investment and development for the circuit.

The International Series is integrated into the Asian Tour schedule and it began with its Thailand event at Black Mountain Golf Club in March.

LIV Golf, commissioned by Greg Norman, increased their investment of $200 million to $300 million into the Asian Tour, supposedly showing LIV's commitment to improving golf on a global scale.

10 events are set to be played on the International Series each season for the next 10 years. Some of the key aims of the series include driving fan engagement, attracting commercial interest and stabilising professional golf.

The series will visit countries such as England, Korea, Vietnam, China, Singapore and Hong Kong while prize purses will range from $1.5 million to $2 million.

What is the International Series on the Asian Tour? Is it linked to LIV Golf?

The first event of The International Series in Thailand was won by Sihwan Kim. Scott Vincent won the second event at Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort at the start of June.

There are two more events on the series scheduled for 2022. International Series Singapore is taking place this week at Tanah Merah Country Club where Patrick Reed will be teeing it up having most recently played in the Bedminster Invitational on the LIV Golf Tour .

"I have heard a lot of amazing things about the area and the golf course. To be able to come and experience it myself is amazing and watching the (National Day) fireworks last night was great," Reed said.

"There is a lot of things that go into it, and when the people treat you like family as they have here, it makes the experience that much better."

International Series South Korea is up next from August 18 to 21 at Lotte Skyhill Jeju Country Club. This will be the fourth event of the series to be held in 2022.

Currently, Vincent leads the International Series Order of Merit from Kim in second place. Travis Smyth, Phachara Khongwatmai and Sadom Kaewkanjana make up the top five and all of these players have competed on the LIV Golf Tour this year.

The Asian Tour kicked off its season with the Saudi International in February which was sponsored by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia . The PIF is the majority shareholder of LIV Golf Investments.
