The Scoop: What to Know About Trafalgar Tours

CIE Tours is a tour company with a specialty: Ireland. It has been running tours there since 1932 and is currently the largest U.S.-based tour operator that specializes in Ireland. And though CIE Tours has grown to include tours to other countries in the U.K., plus Italy and Iceland, its connection to Ireland remains front and center. That’s largely because it’s owned in part by the Irish government’s national transport company, CIÉ Group (CĂłras Iompair Éireann).

BEST OF THE BEST: Best Tour Companies for Guided Tours

According to CIE Tours: “This semi-state ownership provides CIE Tours with the stability and reputation of the Irish government behind it.” The company is also noteworthy for its variety of tour types, including standard coach tours, small group tours, independent drive tours, and private tours.

TourScoop Takeaways

  • Countries: CIE Tours is an Ireland tour specialist but also offers tours to Scotland, England & Wales, Italy, and Iceland
  • Tour Size Average: Standard coach departures max out at 44; small group tours have a maximum of 26 guests. There are also independent self-drive options.
  • Tour Type: Primarily coach but there are also self-drive options

How to Book

To book a CIE Tour, you can either book directly with the company or via a travel agent.

Credibility Check

CIE Tours isn’t BBB accredited, but it is partially owned by the Irish government’s national rail transport company. It has a large number of ratings on user-review sites, including 4/5 on Tripadvisor , 4.6 out of 5 on Feefo based on past guest ratings, and 4.2 out of 5 on Facebook .

Tour Destinations

CIE Tours is a specialist operator that focuses on tours to Europe, and specifically Ireland and Britain for guests from North America. It offers escorted and independent tours to Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales, and also has itineraries to Italy and Iceland.

CIE Tours has nearly 40 pre-set itineraries that range from five-day tours to multiweek trips. CIE Tours’ trip formats include:

  • Guided Vacations : Led by local tour directors, CIE Tours’ Guided Vacations suited to solo travelers, couples, groups, and adult families. These tours have up to 44 people per departure and utilize luxury coaches.
  • Small Group Vacations : CIE Tours’ Small Group Vacations are designed for people who prefer to travel with a smaller group. Maxing out at 26 people, these tours still use full-sized coaches, so guests have plenty of room to stretch out (and claim a window seat).
  • Group Vacations :  Groups of 10 or more people can arrange to join a larger group on an existing departure or travel privately on an escorted tour. CIE Tours can also custom craft itineraries to suit the preferences of a group, and can focus on anything from ancestry or history to culinary adventures.
  • Custom Private Driver Vacations : Designed for groups up to nine people, CIE Tours’ Custom Private Driver Vacations include a private car and driver who mixes local history and insider stories with groups. These tours can be based on a pre-curated itinerary or can be customized for the group.
  • Independent Adventures : Independent Adventures give you the structure of an itinerary, curated accommodations, and the self-drive flexibility to move at your own speed. There are both pre-set routes and the option to create your own custom route.

Tour Guides

CIE Tours have a 95% guest satisfaction rating, due in large part (according to the company) to the strength of its tour directors. Guides receive extensive training before becoming CIE tour directors, and then participate in annual workshops to make sure they’re offering guests the most current information and the best experience. And since CIE guides are locals, they are able to offer an insider point of view plus untold history and local legends.

Inclusions/Extras

CIE Tours’ All-In Inclusive Advantage bundles everything on the itinerary in the up-front price for guided tours. Built into the price are:

  • Most meals, including daily hot breakfast
  • All entrance fees to attractions and experiences
  • Traditional entertainment
  • All on-tour transportation
  • Free Wi-Fi on coaches and in hotels
  • CIE Tours travel pack, including high quality backpack and documents holder, luggage strap and tags, travel converters, guidebooks and more
  • Handling of one suitcase per person throughout vacation
  • All local taxes and hotel service charges

Airfare isn’t included in the base price, but the company offers flight bookings that include complimentary airport transfers plus assistance if flights are canceled.

Typical Travelers

Guests on CIE Tours generally are between 45 and 70 years old. Most are from the U.S. and Canada. Only about 5% of CIE Tours guests are solo travelers; the majority of guests on guided tours are couples or people traveling with friends or family. Since CIE Tours has a strong Great Britain and Ireland focus, it attracts a fair number of travelers looking to learn more about their roots.

SOLO TRAVEL TOGETHER: 10 Best Tour Companies for Solo Travel

Communication

About three weeks before the start date of a tour, U.S.-based guests will receive a backpack that includes printed version of all travel documents and vouchers, a document holder, luggage strap and tags, travel converters, and guidebooks. Guests based outside of the U.S. receive the travel pack at the first hotel upon check-in.  Guests can also access electronic versions of the travel documents through the CIE Tours website.

Loyalty Program

CIE Tours has a straightforward approach to rewarding repeat guests. It offers a past guest discount of $150 per person on guided tours or $75 on self-drive trips. The discount can be combined with other promotions for additional savings.

Private Options

CIE Tours’ private options are private group tours and private driver tours:

  • Custom Private Driver tours allow up to nine passengers the chance to design their own itinerary and set their own pace. Private Driver tours are available in Ireland, Britain, and Iceland.
  • Group Vacation tours allows groups of 10 or more passengers to travel privately on their own coach on an existing CIE itinerary or a custom itinerary.  Private Group Vacations are available for all CIE Tours’ destinations.

With both options, CIE Tours’ vacation specialists do all the planning.  Once on tour, travelers get the expertise of a knowledgeable local Tour Director who leads the group and manages logistics.

Sustainability Efforts

CIE Tours is in the early stages of developing its company’s sustainability program. As a U.S. tour operator with an Ireland focus, the company is a major contributor to the rural regions of Ireland, and seeks to support a “wide range of small, local independent businesses.” The company participates in national and local efforts to protect and share the heritage of the destinations in which it operates.

Health and Safety Practices

CIE Tours has comprehensive health and safety standards and works closely with our local partners to align with country-specific health protocols.  CIE Tours tour directors are trained to handle a variety of situations including illnesses and emergencies.  Additionally local support teams on the ground are on call 24/7, with systems and protocols in place for guest safety.

Family Companies

CIE Tours is a wholly owned subsidiary of holding company, CIÉ Group (Córas Iompair Éireann), the Irish government’s national transport company. CIE Group also operates Dublin Bus, Bus Eireann and Irish Rail.

Inside Tim Robinson’s ‘I Think You Should Leave’ Tour: Unaired Sketches, Paul Rudd and Why Patrick Stewart Turned Down a Role

I Think You Should Leave

SPOILER ALERT: This story contains minor spoilers of Tim Robinson ‘s “ I Think You Should Leave ” live show, including general descriptions of unaired sketches .

“I Think You Should Leave” went live Tuesday, April 2, when creators Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin brought their beloved Netflix sketch comedy series to the stage at New York’s Beacon Theatre.

Nearly 3,000 fans showed up for the mysterious, sold-out show, many of them revealing their allegiance to the comedy cult with Dan Flashes button-downs and Corncob TV tees — if you know, you know — and yelling out lines from “I Think You Should Leave” that have been immortalized in gifs and memes.

Brooks Wheelan, who overlapped with Robinson and Kanin during their time on “Saturday Night Live,” opened the show with five minutes of stand-up before a giant screen began playing an extended version of “Has This Ever Happened to You?,” a sketch from the first episode of “I Think You Should Leave,” in which Robinson plays a low-tier attorney advertising to people who have been bizarrely wronged by a pair of exterminators.

Then, to much fanfare, Robinson and Kanin took the stage, which was designed like a living room, and explained the format of the night. They would bring out special guests to watch sketches that were scrapped from the series and determine whether they should have made the cut. Spoiler alert: every sketch was met with a baffled, unanimous: “Why didn’t you put that in?” Oh, and there was also a bird mascot named Tori, who would prance onstage and harass them every half hour.

It’s a classic “I Think You Should Leave” sketch reminiscent of “Job Interview,” in which Robinson goes to great lengths to prove a push door actually goes both ways. The audience went wild for “Done Deal,” and Richardson’s verdict was: “It should have been in the program.”

The next guest was Seth Meyers, who jokingly assured Robinson and Kanin that he fought hard for their ideas as head writer of “SNL” before ribbing them about a “Jurassic Park” sketch they pitched, which “would have been great for 1993.” Then they screened the next unaired sketch, which was ironically not the only one of the night that involved dinosaurs. “Dino Talk” is honestly hard to explain, but it involves a strange man attending a lecture while playing mind games with the random people seated next to him, played by Kanin and “The Bear” star Lionel Boyce.

Meyers said of the sketch, “There’s a lot I like,” and pointed out that the reason they probably didn’t include it in the show is because, like “Focus Group,” it includes a guy with an unplaceable accent messing with Kanin. Robinson said they initially offered the main part to Sir Patrick Stewart, but he didn’t understand the concept and passed. “He’s dead to me,” joked Robinson.

Patti Harrison, another recurring favorite on “I Think You Should Leave,” came out next to discuss “Movie Set,” in which Robinson and Richardson play bickering background extras on the set of a horror movie. Robinson’s job is to deliver a burger to Richardson, who makes a bold creative choice to do a “stinky” gesture when handed the food in each take. This, obviously, really upsets Robinson, and the pair begin arguing through their teeth.

Robinson’s rationale for not putting “Movie Set” in the series was that it’s “too hard to understand,” to which Meyers laughed: “You have literally the most challenging sketch show ever made. Your audience will follow you anywhere.”

The next guest was Bruce Buckles, whom Robinson introduced as a random improv student in New York trying to break into the business. He said he is the founder of a new improv company called Buckle Up Comedy, which doesn’t yet have a physical space. As the night went on, Buckles fawned over the onstage talent and backhandedly praised Meyers as one of the “Top 3 Weekend Update hosts.”

His addition seemed appropriately bizarre, dosing the audience with a fair amount of uncomfortable laughter. But it turns out — and I’m sorry to shatter the illusion — that Buckles is just a character played by comedic actor-writer Brendan Jennings. I know this because his performance was so believable that after the show I had to research whether Buckles was real.

Of the remaining unaired sketches, there was “Event Space Walkthrough,” in which Robinson must fake a phone call but has no idea how to; “Dino Guy,” which casts Robinson as a paleo-enthusiast who goes to war against a little kid playing with toy dinosaurs; and “Barney’s,” which stars Biff Wiff as a disgruntled diner owner who, in order to drum up business, renames menu items to stuff like “Big Bra Water” and “Eyes Roll Back in My Head Blowjob Burger.” (Robinson said that last one didn’t make the cut because “the jokes seemed too obvious.” The audience disagreed.)

Guest after guest praised each sketch, and Robinson and Kanin hilariously failed to come up with a single good reason why they were cut from the show. As laughter roared from the balconies, you could almost sense a slight tinge of regret on the co-creators’ faces.

Still, exhibiting unseen sketches in front of an audience with celebrities providing live commentary — rather than, say, throwing them up on YouTube — is pretty genius. By letting us peek into the “I Think You Should Leave” vault, Robinson and Kanin deepen the show’s lore, building the comedy equivalent of B-sides and rarities. It won’t be long before die-hard fans declare their favorite sketch as the extended cut of “Has This Ever Happened to You?” — or the second unreleased one about dinosaurs. And it’s only a matter of time before bootleg iPhone videos of the sketches trickle onto Reddit and Twitter, and the jokes rot fans’ vocabularies.

Before the night ended, Robinson and Kanin screened an extended version of “He Layeth on High,” starring the late Fred Willard as a funeral organist, plus a clip from an unreleased sketch about a dance competition show that eliminates contestants who check their pockets to make sure their wallets haven’t fallen out. Wrapping up with the help of comedian and musician Whitmer Thomas, Robinson led the Beacon in a karaoke singalong to the fan-favorite power ballad “Friday Night.”

It’s curious that “I Think You Should Leave” has yet to be renewed for a fourth season by Netflix. Given the show’s low budget and treasure trove of unreleased material, Ted Sarandos should be begging Robinson and Kanin for more episodes — and maybe he is! But the day of the live show, it was announced that the comedy duo landed an HBO pilot order for their series “The Chair Company,” about a man who finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy at work, and a couple of years ago they sold another pilot to the network called “Computer School.”

Robinson and Kanin are busy, and they may or may not choose to return to the world of “I Think You Should Leave.” But if the live tour proves anything, it’s that there are legions of fans clamoring for more sketches, and that even the leftovers knock it out of the park.

Beyoncé’s Country Is America: Every Bit of It

On the bold, sprawling “Cowboy Carter,” the superstar plays fast and loose — and twangy — with genre.

  • Share full article

Beyoncé in a white tank top with a torn neckline, a white cowboy hat and long blond hair.

By Jon Pareles

The first song on “Cowboy Carter,” Beyoncé’s not-exactly-country album, makes a pre-emptive strike. “It’s a lot of talking going on while I sing my song,” she observes in “Ameriican Requiem” over guitar strums and electric sitar, adding, “It’s a lot of chatter in here.”

That’s an acknowledgment that a pop superstar’s job now extends well beyond creating and performing songs. In the era of streaming and social media, BeyoncĂ© knows that her every public appearance and utterance will be scrutinized, commented on, cross-referenced, circulated as clickbait and hot-taked in both good faith and bad. Every phrase and image are potential memes and hyperlinks.

It’s a challenge she has engaged head-on since she released her visual album “BeyoncĂ©â€ in 2013. For the last decade, even as her tours have filled stadiums, she has set herself goals outside of generating hits. BeyoncĂ© has deliberately made each of her recent albums not only a musical performance but also an argument: about power, style, history, family, ambition, sexuality, bending rules. They’re albums meant to be discussed and footnoted, not just listened to.

“Cowboy Carter” is an overstuffed album, 27 tracks maxing out the 79-minute capacity of a CD and stretching across two LPs. It flaunts spoken-word co-signs from Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton that interrupt its flow; it includes some fragmentary, minute-long songs. Its sprawl is its own statement of confidence: that even half-finished experiments are worth attention.

The “Cowboy Carter” album cover is an opening salvo, brandishing western and American symbols: BeyoncĂ© holding an American flag while riding a white horse sidesaddle, with platinum-blond hair proudly streaming. In a red-white-and-blue outfit, high-heeled boots and a pageant sash that reads “Cowboy Carter,” she’s a beauty queen and a white-hatted heroine claiming her nation — her country, in both senses. The politics of her new songs are vague and glancing, but the music insists that every style is her American birthright. As a pop star it is: Pop has always breached stylistic boundaries, constantly exploiting subcultures to annex whatever might make a song catchier.

BeyoncĂ© grew up in Texas, where country music has long mingled with styles from jazz to blues to hip-hop — and where, in fact, early cowboys were enslaved Black men . BeyoncĂ© met a racial backlash when she performed “Daddy Lessons,” a country song from her 2016 album “Lemonade” about gun-toting self-defense, with the (then-Dixie) Chicks at the 2016 Country Music Association Awards. Presumably that’s what she alluded to when she wrote on Instagram that there was “an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed.”

She wasn’t daunted. Instead she pushed further, and the mere prospect of BeyoncĂ© releasing a country album stirred things up. Even before its release, “Cowboy Carter” prompted reminders of country’s obscured Black roots — like the African origins of the banjo and the genre’s long cross-pollination with the blues — and pointed at, yet again, its historical exclusion of nonwhite performers, despite a handful of exceptions like Martell, Charley Pride and, more recently, Darius Rucker, Mickey Guyton and Kane Brown.

What BeyoncĂ© drew from country is productions that feature hand-played instruments — guitars, keyboards, drums — rather than the programmed beats and glittering electronics that propelled her 2022 album “Renaissance,” which also had BeyoncĂ© on horseback on the cover and was subtitled “Act I.” That album was Beyoncé’s time-warped, multilayered homage to the electronic dance music that emerged from Black gay subcultures. “Cowboy Carter,” subtitled “Act II,” also scrambles eras and styles, with samples, electronics and multitracked vocal harmonies unapologetically joining the guitars.

The advance singles from “Cowboy Carter” paired “16 Carriages,” a booming arena-country song about Beyoncé’s industrious career and artistic drive, with the foot-stomping, banjo-picking “Texas Hold ’Em,” about enjoying Texas-style good times away from home. “Texas Hold ’Em” seized No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, making BeyoncĂ© the first Black woman to do so, and topped the all-genre Hot 100.

If BeyoncĂ© had merely wanted to make mainstream country hits, she could have hired a seasoned Nashville producer and had her pick of expert Music Row songwriters. But “Cowboy Carter” has different aspirations, and BeyoncĂ© brought her own brain trust, including producers known for hip-hop and R&B. “This ain’t a Country album. This is a BeyoncĂ© album,” she wrote on Instagram. That’s true.

“Cowboy Carter” leans into its anticipated discourse, openly interrogating categories and stereotypes and pointedly ignoring formulas. With historical savvy, BeyoncĂ© enlisted Linda Martell — the Black country singer whose 1970 album, “Color Me Country,” included the first charting country hit by a Black woman, “Color Him Father” — to provide spoken words. For the intro of “Spaghettii” — which features BeyoncĂ© rapping — Martell says, “Genres are a funny little concept, aren’t they? Yes, they are. In theory, they have a simple definition that’s easy to understand. But in practice, well, some may feel confined.”

BeyoncĂ© gathers young Black women currently striving for country careers — Brittney Spencer, Reyna Roberts, Tiera Kennedy and Tanner Adell — on a remake of the Beatles’ veiled civil-rights song, “Blackbird.” It’s a careful gesture, though it might have been more substantial to write a new song with them.

The album includes some understated, largely acoustic contenders for country or adult-contemporary radio play — notably “II Most Wanted,” a duet with Miley Cyrus that harks back to Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” and “Levii’s Jeans,” a boast about being a “sexy little thing” that she shares with a besotted Post Malone. In the steady-thumping, Motown-tinged “Bodyguard,” BeyoncĂ© plays an amorous, jealous but selfless partner in an uncertain romance. And in “Protector,” an acoustic-guitar lullaby, BeyoncĂ© personifies a loving, supportive parent singing about “lifting you up so you will be raised.”

BeyoncĂ© also reworks Parton’s “Jolene” — a country classic about a dangerous temptress — by turning it inside out. Where Parton’s 1973 original had her “begging” Jolene to stay away, in 2024 BeyoncĂ© isn’t one to cede power. She starts out by “warning” Jolene and raises the threat level from there, reminding her target, “I know I’m a queen.”

Martell returns to introduce “Ya Ya,” explaining, “This particular tune stretches across a range of genres. And that’s what makes it a unique listening experience.” The song is a hand clapping, 1960s-flavored garage-rock stomp that samples Nancy Sinatra, quotes the Beach Boys and brandishes lines like “There’s a whole lot of red in that white and blue/History can’t be erased,” then moves on to dancing and lust. It’s not geared for any radio format. It’s just a romp.

It’s the odder, genre-fluid songs that give the album its depth. “Just for Fun” — a hymnlike duet with Willie Jones, a Louisiana songwriter who draws on country and R&B — plunges into Beyoncé’s somber low register as she sings, “I need to get through this/Or just get used to it.” “Riiverdance” deploys intertwined Celtic-tinged guitars and close-harmony backup vocals to sketch an enigmatic relationship that encompasses murder and resurrection and weekend seductions. And “II Hands II Heaven” is equally cryptic and celebratory; using an electronic pulse drawn from Underworld’s “Born Slippy (Nuxx),” it has BeyoncĂ© and backup voices singing about whiskey, coyotes, God, sex and “Lost virgins with broken wings that will regrow.”

BeyoncĂ© has been a stalwart of the full-length album, sequencing and juxtaposing songs in synergistic ways. But “Cowboy Carter” is a bumpier ride than “Renaissance,” “Lemonade” or “BeyoncĂ©.” It suggests that BeyoncĂ© wanted to pack all she could into one side trip before moving on elsewhere. Perhaps she’s already immersed in Act III.

Jeremiah Horgan

Our irish pub tour was wonderful.

Great Ireland bus tour and guided tour

CIE Tours Customer

I enjoyed the history narratives of places visited on the bus rides to destinations. I appreciated the time schedule and applying it to others who were not respectful of the schedule. I LOVED that they took care of the luggage for us. I appreciated the scheduled comfort stops. The seats on the bus were uncomfortable, I wish they could be wider and more leg room. I would recommend CIE to others

Great Ireland Tour

First time taking an organized bus tour such as this. We enjoyed the trip and Paddy our guide was nice and informative. All local guides very good and knowledgeable.

Ellisa Whitson

Tour directors set the tone of your experience.

So much better than Go Ahead. Bus driver and tour director were very helpful and Linda was so amusing with her insights.

Lynn Marie Lidstone

Lisa Richardson, our tour director and our coach driver, Lee were fantastic. Lisa was very informative and straightforward. We were given amazing tours by other people and we saw things we never would have on our own. I would definitely recommend CIE Tours to everyone I know....and I already have!

Mr. James Alan Williams

Good introduction to ireland despite awful weather..

CIE's 'Taste of Ireland' tour was well advertised, well prepared, and well executed thanks to tireless effort by your tour guide/driver, Colm Wallis. Despite truly awful weather on all but one day, Colm kept us on schedule, answered endless questions, lectured on aspects of Ireland, and showed true grit and courtesy in dealing with his 42 passengers. The cultural dinner events -- The Jolly Ploughmen at a suburban Dublin pub, and the medieval feast at an old Dublin castle -- were magnificent experiences.

There’s something magical about It - then there’s the people you meet!

After having been to Wales on a Small Group Trip to Wales with CIE in 2019, we knew it was THE only way to go! This time, checked all the boxes! We had a fantastic time on our Tour. Our Tour Dire/Driver was THE Best! We had the time of our lives & would go again in an instant. The schedule was a bit busy but why go that far & do not? Ireland & N Ireland is beautiful and the people are welcoming & friendly! From the musician at Fitzsimmon’s Temple Bar who loaned me his umbrella & was surprised when we came back- to the individuals guides that gave us our city tours. The Jaunting cart driver, the ladies we met in the Cork Hotel lobby celebrating their niece’s wedding. Shop keepers, pub owners & patrons- everyone was friendly and it couldn’t be better. Even sitting, waiting in a restaurant at the Cliffs of Moher, we met fellow travelers from Australia & shared a table. We had free time in Belfast & were able to meet up with someone we had not seen since she was a teenager. It had been 34 years since she came to America as a girl. Married with a daughter, Deborah is a teacher & local artist. We were excited & grateful to have the free time in Belfast to spend time with them during our Tour. We did had an issue with our paperwork that had changed our return flight. Turns out they were what our Agent had told us all along but CIE printed a different return. It took three days to get it straightened. In the meantime, we were freaking out a bit while still trying to have a good time. We purchased our airfare through a 2 for 1 seven months in advance through CIE & Aer Lingus partnership and paid up front. We’re not happy that we were not seated together on our return flights either. I have sent emails to CIE with no response. This is our only negative. Had they responded to our messages, I would not have posted here. It’s the only reason we didn’t give this trip a Five Star. You can decide from there. Other than that? We loved our trip & my wife posted photos on the bus as we went on Social Media! It was great since we had WiFi on the bus. Another great feature.

Cynthia Susan Phelan

Wonderful trip.

Our CIE tour was amazing. Scotland and Ireland are beautiful countries with rich histories. We visited a variety of historical, cultural, and culinary venues, yet had ample time to explore on our own. Our tour guides, Jaqui and Marie, were personable and knowledgeable. Our bus driver, Sam, was our shining star. He accommodated each individual as much as possible and was proactive in heading off any potential problems or concerns. He was respectful, funny, and interesting. I would definitely tour with CIE again.

Mr. John Thomas Eisenhard

I thought our tour guides did a great job. There knowledge of both countries & the history was fantastic. The drivers were very conscientious. The itinerary was very good, a little hectic.

CIE was very knowledgeable and helpful in planning our Ireland trip. They worked through multiple itinerary versions and options and helped us get the experiences we wanted without pushing us into things we did not want. The prep kit they sent helped get us even more excited for the big trip. We did hit a cancelled flight on the way back and ended up managing some of our own details to deal with the delay, but we got back fine in the end.

Ireland cie tour.

The tour guide was the best and gave us lots of great info.

Best tour guide ever!

Our tour guide was amazing
witty, personable, and a great story-teller! Colm made the history of Ireland come alive. The stops on our tour route were breathtakingly beautiful! It was a truly memorable experience!

Jon Henry Niemczyk

Fabulous irish vacation.

Our guide, John Reilly was professional and personable. He treated us like family. The properties were beautiful and very convenient for evening meals. Great value and a great memorable experience.

Brian Craig Harkleroad

Dublin and southwest ireland driver tour..

Excellent itinerary, awesome driver. Perfectly scheduled. Agent was super helpful when the airline canceled 1st leg of trp.

June Marie Goldman

Great - everything was well thought of ahead and could not have been better.

Everything was well planned - Could not have had a better experience

Elizabeth Sommers Pierret

Private driver/guide, Pat Murphy, was excellent. Hotel accommodation were first class - located in town center allowing easy access to restaurants, attractions and stores.

Beatrice Kingston

Beautiful, historical, unforgettable tour.

We saw so much of this beautiful country, from numerous castles to the Isle of Sky and everything in between. Our tour guide, Ian, was so knowledgeable of the Scottish history of each venture that we became totally immersed in each days historical site. My favorite was the Tattoo . It was an unforgettable experience which topped the ending to a fantastic tour. I will miss Scotland but am so grateful that I chose this tour.

Fred Edward Morgan

Taste of scotland and ireland tour.

We had a wonderful experience, a top notch director (Paul) and we enjoyed the opportunity of the Taste of Scotland and Ireland

Norman Pidgeon

An excellent itinerary, let down by logistical challenges..

Greatly enjoyed the itinerary. The tour director and the driver were both great as well. Our experience was let down by the inability of CIE to get us our welcome packs until the end of the tour. We would encourage the company to deliver to Australia the packs prior to the tours, as they do for USA. This factor alone means we would not recommend the company to other Australians as things stand. We also found a couple of the hotels below the standard we would expect, especially in Glasgow and Inverness. Some of the more remote hotels were actually more suited to our needs and were not as overwhelmed by multiple tour groups trying to squeeze into lifts and looking for space at breakfast.

Mornings too early!

Excellent planning logistically but 5 hotels in 7 nights was difficult for this retired person. Great tour guide, David, and masterful driver Aiden. We saw a lot and I appreciated that it was rarely that we sat on the coach for more than 1.5 hours. An hour later (9am) boarding the bus would have been preferable.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Get Loose in Los Angeles

  • By Ethan Millman

Ethan Millman

Three hours into Bruce Springsteen ‘s epic return to Los Angeles on Thursday night with the E Street Band, he stared down the sold-out crowd at the Forum. “Do you have anything left?” he shouted, midway through “Twist and Shout,” the second-to-last song of his first L.A. show in eight years. Five decades in, the magic of a Springsteen show remains: He always seems to have a little bit left in the tank.

The 2024 version of the tour has been looser than last year’s, which stuck fairly close to a single set list, and Thursday was no exception. Springsteen kicked off with a true rarity, a cover of John Lee Hooker’s “Boom Boom” (most frequently played on the Tunnel of Love Express Tour back in 1988), before jumping into “Lonesome Day” (rarely played last year, but now a staple in the set) and “Prove It All Night,” then his live -favorite arena-rock reworking of Jimmy Cliff’s “Trapped.”

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

Six dates into their return to the road, Springsteen and the E Street Band sounded like they had never been interrupted. “Are you having fun yet? Because we haven’t had fun yet,” Springsteen told the crowd just over an hour into his show. “This is our pre-fun. We’re here to wake you up, shake you up, and take you to higher ground. The E Street Band is here to bring the joyous power of rock & roll into your life. But we need your help. We plan on sending you home with your feet hurting, your hands hurting, your ass in paralysis, and your sexual organs stimulated.”

Springsteen maintains a remarkably simple setup and show presentation compared to the other blockbuster live shows currently on the road. The visuals are limited to video screens and elegant stage lights, keeping the focus on the 17 musicians onstage with him. He doesn’t really need much else.

Bruce Springsteen Jokes About His Postponed Tour on 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'

Don omar cements his legacy with 'back to reggaeton' show in l.a., bruce springsteen joins zach bryan onstage at triumphant brooklyn show, nancy pelosi among 40 house democrats demanding biden halt weapon transfers to israel, the far right is crawling with eclipse conspiracy theories, cole brings plenty, budding actor on ‘yellowstone’ spinoff '1923,' found dead, trump says he’ll become ‘modern day nelson mandela’ over right to attack judge’s daughter.

From there, the show was all joy and catharsis, with an unbroken string of hits and live favorites, beginning with Nils Lofgren’s jaw-dropping guitar virtuosity on “Because the Night,” and inevitably reaching “Thunder Road” and “Born to Run.” As he has throughout the tour, Springsteen finished the show alone with his meditation on life after death, “I’ll See You in My Dreams.”

Springsteen and the E Street Band will play another Forum show on Sunday.

TOUR title, more on the line for Akshay Bhatia & Co. in Texas

Draws and Fades

Change Text Size

Windy conditions at TPC San Antonio on Friday kept Akshay Bhatia in check after his nine-under 63 in Round 1, but the young PGA TOUR star still increased his lead at the Valero Texas Open.

Bhatia shot a much tamer 2-under 70 to move to 11-under, extending his three-shot overnight advantage to five strokes above the rest. Only two rounds in and it’s hard to think the young lefty isn’t dreaming of not only his second PGA TOUR win, (but his first full-field triumph to go with his 2023 Barracuda Championship) but also securing an invite down Magnolia Lane for the Masters.

Should Bhatia finish off the victory he will become the first player to participate in the Drive, Chip and Putt competition as a child and later in life make it to the big event at Augusta National.

Before we anoint the 22-year-old we must remember a wire-to-wire victory is never easy, even if you have a five-stroke lead entering the weekend. The closest chasers include Denny McCarthy, who was able to put together a round of 70 in the windier conditions of the afternoon wave, plus Brendon Todd and Russell Henley.

McCarthy is arguably as determined as Bhatia as he chases a first PGA TOUR win and could easily feel his game is far better than results have shown. He is already set to make his Masters debut next week, but what better way to boost your first-time jitters then by walking in fresh off your first PGA TOUR victory? If McCarthy can keep the pedal down in round three, he is a scary man to have nipping at your heels late on a Sunday.

Akshay Bhatia adds to impressive start and leads by five after Friday at Valero

Lurking in solo-fifth after a solid 70, six shots back of Bhatia, is superstar Rory McIlroy. He spoke extensively with Smylie Kaufman on the telecast about the importance of competing late on Sunday the week before a major to test where your games at. No one has more pressure for success in Augusta than McIlroy who is still a green jacket shy of the career grand slam. And perhaps nothing would give him more confidence to achieve that feat than putting together a spectacular weekend to steal a win from Bhatia and the field.

Tommy Fleetwood and Webb Simpson, two seasoned veterans, are also within striking distance at 4-under. Fleetwood is still chasing his first PGA TOUR win which brings plenty of motivation for the multiple-time DP World Tour winner. The Englishman will leave it all out there and do what he can to grab that elusive victory. Simpson, a former U.S Open winner and seven-time TOUR winner hasn’t won since 2020. A win would also help him avoid his first back-to-back Masters absence since 2010-11.

The forecast for the weekend shows winds coming down, so there’s a good chance we could see some chaos on moving day.

Here are the latest outright odds from BetMGM Sportsbook.

  • +130 : Akshay Bhatia (-11, 1st)
  • +650 : Rory McIlroy (-5, 5th)
  • +900 : Russell Henley (-6, T2)
  • +1200 : Denny McCarthy (-6, T2)
  • +1400 : Brendon Todd (-6, T2)
  • +2200 : Tommy Fleetwood (-4, T6)
  • +2500 : Jordan Spieth (-3, T10)
  • +3000 : Corey Conners (-3, T10)
  • +4500 : Adam Schenk (-4, T6)

Denny McCarthy +1200

McCarthy was sitting at +700 until an unforced final-hole bogey on the easy par-5 18th saw him shoot up to +1200. This shift could actually represent serious value. McCarthy has had a decent 2024 campaign, making seven out of eight cuts, but he’ll be the first to tell you he wants, and expects, more. One of the hottest players on TOUR in 2023, McCarthy is overdue for a win having logged 10 top-10 finishes, including a playoff loss to Viktor Hovland at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.

Russell Henley +900

Henley is third in Strokes Gained: Approach through two rounds and appears to be back in form. We’ve seen him be a threat on weekends before, yet he hasn’t finished off the job since November 2022 at the World Wide Technology Championship. If he can sniff a chance of victory, he’ll at least be in the mix come Sunday.

Rory McIlroy +650

The 24-time PGA TOUR winner has the second shortest odds to win behind Bhatia and for good reason being world No. 2. The concern for me, is his mind could easily wander to Augusta. With more and more young talent coming through the world of golf, this could be the last time the 34-year-old enters the Masters this high in the world rankings. Personally, I believe this to be true and I sense McIlroy knows this may be his last great chance to get that green jacket. While others remain focused on Valero Texas Open week, I worry McIlroy isn’t. With that in mind I see chasing down six shots a tough ask.
