Coldplay Announce 2022 World Tour

By Madison Bloom and Jazz Monroe

Coldplay

Coldplay have announced a world tour behind their Max Martin–produced album Music of the Spheres . After declining to tour the album’s predecessor, Everyday Life , for environmental reasons, the band have pledged to cut tour emissions by 50 percent and adopt a broad model for sustainability, with each show powered exclusively by renewable energy. Coldplay plan to eliminate “significantly more CO2 than the tour produces” with initiatives including the planting of one tree for each ticket sold. Ten percent of all tour earnings will enter a fund for “environmental and socially conscious causes,” according to a press release. Check out the dates below.

In a statement, Coldplay said they were “very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis.” They continued, “So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward. We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn.”

Initiatives include the use of solar installations at every venue, as well as energy generated from waste cooking oil, a kinetic stadium floor, and kinetic bikes powered by fans. A mobile, rechargeable show battery touted as the first of its kind will store the energy. The band will encourage fans to use low-carbon transport with an app that offers venue discounts as rewards, and will discourage single-use plastic bottles by providing free water. The band has also enlisted climate experts at Imperial College London’s Grantham Institute - Climate Change and the Environment to track the tour’s environmental impact.

H.E.R. will support most of the shows, with London Grammar on board for some dates.

Coldplay launched their Music of the Spheres rollout back in April with the release of lead single “ Higher Power .” They didn’t announce the album proper until July, and followed the news with two more tracks: “ Colortura ” and “ My Universe .” The latter features K-pop superstars BTS, and was released with a sci-fi visual directed by Dave Meyers.

Back in 2019 the band announced that they were taking time to consider how they would tour in the future in order to make it as environmentally friendly as possible .

Later this month (October 22), they will become the first act to play the newly renamed Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington, the first zero-carbon arena in the world.

Coldplay’s new tour dates – which come on the back of the band’s new album ‘Music Of The Spheres’, out tomorrow (October 15) – will see the band supported by H.E.R. and London Grammar , and begin in March in Costa Rica.

North American dates will then take place across May and June, before the band head to Europe in July. A UK run of shows closes the tour, including three dates at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Fans can register for tickets for the US leg of the tour here , while priority tickets for the London and Glasgow shows go to fans who have pre-ordered ‘Music Of The Spheres’ on the band’s official webstore .

Discussing the idea behind the tour, the band said in a statement: “Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together.

At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward.

“We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far. If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”

Integral to the tour are its eco-friendly measures, which have been set out on a new ‘sustainability’ section of Coldplay’s official website .

The measures include cutting direct emissions by 50 per cent compared to the band’s last tour in 2016 and 2017, using 100 per cent renewable energy and having solar installations at every venue.

Fans who travel to the shows by public transport will be rewarded with discounts, while the band are donating 10 percent of all of the tour’s earnings to climate change organisations. One tree will also be planted for every ticket sold.

Earlier this week (October 12), Coldplay played a tiny London show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire which featured a special guest appearance from Ed Sheeran .

Reviewing the gig , NME wrote: “The intimate settings bring out a rawer, rougher and slightly goofier side of the band. With only a few thousand fans to please – as opposed to the enormous crowds they pack into stadiums – they loosen up.”

Coldplay Announces 2022 World Tour - Dates & Cities Revealed!

Coldplay is going out on tour – and they’re making their tour as sustainable as possible.

The band announced some initiatives to help during the climate crisis.

In a statement, the band and lead singer Chris Martin said, “Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”

They plan to “cut direct emissions by 50% compared to the band’s most recent tour (2016-17),” as well as “power the show entirely by renewable, super-low emission energy – with solar installations at every venue, waste cooking oil, a kinetic stadium floor and kinetic bikes powered by fans. This power will be stored in the first ever mobile, rechargeable show battery (developed and made in partnership with BMW from recyclable BMW i3 batteries).”

The Music Of The Spheres World Tour begins on March 18, 2022 with the band’s first ever show in Costa Rica, before travelling to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, USA, Germany, Poland, France, Belgium and the UK.

Coldplay announces 2022 world tour.

Posted by Buddy Iahn | Oct 14, 2021

Trek will play stadiums across the globe

Coldplay has announced The Music Of The Spheres World Tour for 2022. The global stadium trek begins on March 18th with the band’s first ever show in Costa Rica, before traveling to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, USA, Germany, Poland, France, Belgium and the UK. Trek includes three nights at London’s Wembley Stadium and a headlining performance at Rock in Rio in Rio De Janeiro. H.E.R. & London Grammar will support select dates. More dates are expected to follow.

The news comes one day ahead of the band’s Music of the Spheres , the band’s highly-anticipated ninth studio album via Atlantic Records.

UK fans ordering the new album from the Official Coldplay UK Store — including all those who have already done so — will get first access to tickets for the UK shows.

Ticketmaster Verified Fan Presale Access is underway through Sunday, October 17th at 9 pm ET. Pre-sales begin October 19th at 9 am local time. General on sale is Friday, October 22nd at 10 am local time via Ticketmaster .

“Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together,” the band shares.

“At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward. We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far.

“If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”

In 2019, the band committed to making their future tours as environmentally beneficial as possible, and the announcement is accompanied by a comprehensive set of sustainability initiatives and environmental commitments, including one tree planted for every ticket sold and a show powered by 100% renewable energy.
