Predictive cruise control

Now every road is worth remembering.

Combine I-Shift with an intelligent cruise control and you get I-See. It's a unique system that learns the topography of the road. Later on, it automatically uses its knowledge to save fuel when the intelligent cruise control is engaged.

When I-See knows an uphill grade is coming, it increases speed in preparation. Once the climb begins, I-See uses its stored knowledge to avoid unnecessary downshifts towards the top. You approach the crest smoothly without wasting fuel in a lower gear at the top of the climb.

Just before the slope, I-See engages Eco-Roll,® which disengages the driveline and lets the truck roll for the optimum period before re-engaging the driveline. This saves energy and minimizes the need for braking. I-See also knows when the slope ends. So it can apply the engine brake gently in time, rather than abruptly at the end, or continue to gain momentum for an upcoming hill.

Adaptive cruise control *

P6-22w22-XC40nonBEV-Cam and radar principal

An adaptive cruise control can provide a more relaxing driving experience on long journeys on motorways and long straight main roads in smooth traffic flows.

The driver selects the desired speed and a time interval to the vehicle ahead. If the camera and radar unit detects a slower vehicle in front of the car, the speed is adapted automatically via the preset time interval to the vehicle ahead. When the road is clear again the car returns to the selected speed.

  • regulate the speed smoothly. In situations that demand sudden braking the driver must brake himself/herself. This applies in cases of large speed differences or if the vehicle in front brakes suddenly. Due to the limitations of the radar unit, braking may come unexpectedly or not at all.
  • follow the vehicle ahead in the same lane at a time interval set by the driver. If the radar unit cannot see any vehicle in front then the car will instead maintain the speed stored by the driver. This also takes place if the speed of the vehicle ahead increases and exceeds the stored speed.

Steep roads and/or heavy load

Bear in mind that the adaptive cruise control is primarily intended for use when driving on level road surfaces. The function may have difficulty in keeping the correct distance from the vehicle ahead when driving on steep downhill slopes – in which case, be extra attentive and ready to brake.

Do not use adaptive cruise control if the car has a heavy load or a trailer is connected to the car.

  • This is not a collision avoidance system. The driver is always responsible and must intervene if the system does not detect a vehicle ahead.
  • The function does not brake consistently for humans or animals, and neither for small vehicles such as bicycles and motorcycles. Nor for low trailers, oncoming, slow or stationary vehicles and objects.
  • Do not use the function in demanding situations, such as in city traffic, at junctions, on slippery surfaces, with a lot of water or slush on the road, in heavy rain/snow, in poor visibility, on winding roads or on slip roads.
  • The function is supplementary driver support intended to facilitate driving and make it safer – it cannot handle all situations in all traffic, weather and road conditions.
  • The driver is advised to read all sections in the Owner's Manual that relate to this function to learn about factors such as its limitations and what the driver should be aware of before using the system.
  • Driver support functions are not a substitute for the driver's attention and judgement. The driver is always responsible for ensuring the car is driven in a safe manner, at the appropriate speed, with an appropriate distance to other vehicles, and in accordance with current traffic rules and regulations.

Volvo EX30

What's New for 2025?

The EX30 is a new nameplate for Volvo, using the EX prefix the company is reserving for its next-generation EVs. When it goes on sale in summer 2024, it will join the larger EX90 SUV in the brand's growing lineup of electric SUVs.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2025 Volvo EX30 starts at $36,245 and goes up to $47,895 depending on the trim and options.

While the EX30's starting price is especially sweet, the mid-range Plus trim with the single-motor powertrain is the version we'd recommend. Sure, its 268-hp setup isn't going to be as quick as the 422 dual-motor version, but you get a little extra driving range as a trade-off. The Plus trim adds desirable features to the EX30's spec sheet, including a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch wheels, and a Harman/Kardon stereo system.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

The Single Motor Extended Range model is powered by a 268-hp electric motor mounted on the rear axle that's good for 253 pound-feet of torque. Volvo says accelerating to 60 mph should take roughly 5.1 seconds with that setup. The Dual Motor Performance model will offer thrill seekers the EV punch they're looking for. With a motor on each axle totaling 422 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, Volvo says the Dual Motor model can launch to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. From our experience during a brief test drive in Barcelona, that seems an accurate estimate. We also sampled the rear-wheel drive Single Motor model, which isn't as rapid but still proved fairly punchy for the urban setting we drove in. Both models offered a firm ride on 19-inch wheels, but the EX30's chassis feels balanced and agile on twisty roads. A Cross Country model may join the lineup a little later, offering more ground clearance and a more rugged look. Volvo hasn't given us every detail for that model just yet, but we don't expect to see any hardcore off-roading equipment being part of that package.

2025 volvo ex30

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

All versions of the EX30 come with a 64.0-kWh battery pack which Volvo says is large enough to provide up to 275 miles of driving per charge in rear-wheel-drive models. All-wheel-drive models are estimated at 265 miles per charge, and both can be charged on a DC fast-charging connection at a peak charging rate of 153 kW. Volvo claims the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in under half an hour on such a connection.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe

The EPA hasn't released fuel-economy estimates for the EX30 yet, but we expect it to be competitive with other small electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Kona Electric and the Kia Niro EV . When we get a chance, we'll take the EX30 on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route and update this story with its results. For more information about the EX30's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website .

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The EX30's interior uses recycled materials throughout for a greener footprint. One upholstery option, for example, uses waste from the denim recycling process, while other options include an interior sewn from flax and a wool alternative made from recycled polyester. The interior looks quite minimalist, which aligns with Volvo's Scandinavian design strategy, but with some new twists. The EX30's glovebox, for example, is relocated to the center of the dashboard under the infotainment screen, making it easier for the driver to reach. The SUV's cupholders also fold up when not in use to free up space.

2025 volvo ex30

Infotainment and Connectivity

Taking a page from Tesla's playbook, the EX30 will feature a single vertically oriented display screen that serves as both infotainment and gauge display. The 12.3-inch screen uses an updated version of Volvo's Google-based interface and features Google Maps for navigation as well as wireless Apple CarPlay. The EX30's stereo system is unique in that Volvo elected to install a soundbar across the base of the dashboard rather than individual speakers throughout the vehicle.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Like other Volvos, the EX30 will come standard with a suite of driver-assistance features to help avoid accidents. For more information about the EX30's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ) websites. Key safety features are likely to include:

  • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection
  • Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  • Standard adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Volvo offers a well-rounded warranty package on its new cars, including a complimentary scheduled maintenance plan that spans three years or 36,000 miles.

  • Limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
  • Battery components are covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles
  • Complimentary scheduled maintenance is covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles

The additional optional tours were also good, we did the Metro tour which I highly recommend, we also paid for the Kremlin tour. The hop on hop off has three different lines all included. Only fault was the bus was sometimes full and you had to wait for the next one which was about 15 minutes (in the cold). Read more Written January 6, 2020

They suggested we do the 1 hour boat trip and said they would drop us to the dock. 1) they dropped us in the wrong place 2) they were lost because of the marathon Then the boat, after we finally found it: 1) stinking fumes, actually gagging 2) no commentary, in fact, no interaction unless you begged 3) offered us 2 for 1 icecreams as they had melted and refrozen as the fridge gets turned off at night Honestly, we enjoyed the afternoon in the boat but spent all of it laughing at just how awful it was!!! • niruDurbs 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Not the best value for the price The ticket is quite expensive and covers three different routes in a 24 hour period. The red route is quite exciting and takes about an hour. The bus comes every 10 to 15 minutes. However the other two routes take about two hours each and buses come every 30 to 40 minute period. If the bus is full then you have to wait at the stop for the next bus. So personally I feel that not much can be seen this way. I definitely was not impressed. The boat element was wonderful, we saw some amazing parts of Moscow along the river side. The bus element was very disappointing as it only started at 10am and was finished by 6:30pm. It was extremely warm when we were there and it would have been great to do the tour in the cool of the day. There was also no air conditioning in the down stairs part of the bus. The girl on the picture-light blue bag-ask for 100 Rubles for show her the QR Code while I had the Booking and PIN number cause she must see the vessel name-Didn’t say nothing and after she said board any vessel. I suggest take the trip and pay on site, avoid fake internet pages, there are many other services with a lot of entertainment, don’t take this ones. Read more Written July 14, 2018
  • Kathrynowl91 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Good way to see some sites We usually do these tours when we travel. They get you round and you see the sight . The traffic is quite heavy so it is a bit slow but there is not a lot they can do about it. We only did the red route. Just a note people don’t queue here when the bus comes it’s a bit of a free for all. Read more Written July 13, 2018
  • Daniyal91 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Was Ok.! Started our tour of moscow from here, We had got the 2 Day Pass with the boat ride. The route and the map was good but not well managed. The bus didn't stop at many points. Were were unaware a couple of times at what point we were and missed them. Headphones and maps were provided. Would recommend one should check out the route map before going and decide which places to stop in advance, this way one can manage and enjoy the tour more and us it more effectively.! The boat ride was Ok, a little crowded. No guide provided, just a boat ride with restaurant service Read more Written July 12, 2018
  • WilliamDyer 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Poor service on boat and too many waiting times on buses For the price, you should expect at minimum English speaking tour guides with decent experience, but at least in my case that did not happen both in buses and boats. And in the boat even tough we were 90% English speaking tourist at least, the tour guide spoke 95% of the time in Russia, and only 3 sentences in English, I really counted how many times she spoke in English. And at the end she asks us if we have any questions? Of course I told her I couldn’t ask her anything since I didn’t understand 95% of what she was saying. The boat tour is not worth it, just take the bus that would be my advice. Second minus is the waiting times, in the boat they made us wait an hour before it departed, and in many stops with the buses waiting times of 20-30 minutes. I actually think I lost that day around 2 hours doing nothing. Be careful. Read more Written July 10, 2018

City Sightseeing Moscow Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour with Optional Cruise provided by City Sightseeing Moscow

Pilot Assist

Pilot Assist works in conjunction with  Adaptive Cruise Control  to provide steering assistance to help keep your Volvo in its lane, at a set speed and distance (or time) interval to the vehicle directly in front of you as long as there are clear markings on the road.  With the second generation Pilot Assist no longer needs a car to follow for the steering assist to function. The default speed for the function to work is up to 80 mph (129 km/h).   Pilot Assist helps to take way the need for you to constantly change your speed in relation to the vehicle in front of you and helps adjust the steering to keep your Volvo in the lane.

Note: The system will not function if the driver does not hold the steering wheel.  It will go into standby mode.

To operate the Pilot Assist :

  • Press either of the arrow buttons (2 or 4) on the left hand keypad to put the Adaptive Cruise Control in standby mode
  • Use the Arrow key [ > ] (4) to change to Pilot Assist in standby mode
  • Press the Cruise Control button (2) (located in the center)
  • To change the distance (time) interval press button 5 or 7.

Note : Pilot Assist is designed to be a supplementary driving aid and cannot cover all driving situations, traffic, weather and/or road conditions.  Pilot Assist is not intended to replace the driver's attention and judgment.  Pilot Assist must only be used where there are clearly visible traffic lane side marker lines on both sides of the current traffic lane. In other circumstances there is an increased risk of collision with surrounding obstacles that are not detected by the system.  The driver is always responsible for steering the vehicle and maintaining a suitable speed and distance to the vehicle ahead and must intervene if necessary, even if Pilot Assist is being used.

Pilot Assist does not react to people or animals, or small vehicles such as bicycles and motorcycles. It also does not react to low trailers, slow moving, parked or approaching vehicles, or stationary objects.  Do not use Pilot Assist in demanding driving conditions such as city driving or other heavy traffic situations, in slippery conditions, when there is a great deal of water or slush on the road, during heavy rain or snow, in poor visibility, on winding roads or on highway ramps.
