Spring has sprung, which means Boston Duck Tours' new season is kicking off as well.

As of Friday morning, the iconic trucks were taking locals and tourists on amphibious tours of the city starting from the Museum of Science, Prudential Center and New England Aquarium.

"With the mild weather we experienced this winter, we are ready to hit the streets showing off our beloved Boston and the Charles River." said Cindy Brown, CEO of Boston Duck Tours, in a statement.

The company is also looking to hire drivers with commercial certification and mechanics, even offering a $4,000 sign-on bonus for those who qualify.

"Our biggest challenge the past few years has been staffing. Though a seasonal business, we offer competitive wages, year-round benefits, sign on and end of season bonuses," Brown said.

Duck boat carried hundreds of thousands of people last season and over 12 million people in the last 29 years, according to the company.

Boston Duck Tours Kicks Off 29th Season On April 1

BOSTON (CBS) – It's one of the signs of spring - Boston's Duck Tours will begin Friday, April 1.

To kick off its 29th season, the company is offering a free ride to all licensed CDL drivers in April. The company is looking to hire drivers, so anyone with a CDL license may reserve a free ticket on the day of the tour at the Museum of Science or Prudential Center ticket booths any day except Saturdays.

"With our desperate need to hire drivers, we will be hosting commercial drivers on a free tour in April and encouraging them to apply for a job on our team. We offer competitive wages, end-of-season, sign-on and safety bonuses and year-round health insurance," Duck Tours CEO Cindy Brown said in a statement Wednesday.

On Friday, tours will leave from the Museum of Science, Prudential Center and New England Aquarium beginning at 10 a.m.

"We are thrilled to be starting our 2022 season with the return of many market segments lost during COVID. Our dedicated staff is eager to welcome visitors to Boston and show them our amazing city," Brown said.

Boston Duck Tours serves about 555,000 guests in a typical season.

Boston’s treasured lighthouses are being highlighted on harbor cruises while an endangered species is given space to feed in the waters off Massachusetts.

“Everyone loves a lighthouse!” said David Coffin, the narrator of the Boston Harbor City Cruise lighthouse tour. “How can you not like a lighthouse?”

The two-hour tour is a limited-edition cruise meant to highlight the historic structures and Boston history. Visitors onboard can opt for indoor or outdoor seating, where they get a view of the U.S.S. Constitution, the Boston Light, Graves Light and other notable points in these waters.

And during the journey, Coffin, a noted sea chantey singer, who’s made a name for himself on TikTok, will treat visitors to a rendition of a locally inspired chantey.

In addition to relying on interest in lighthouses, the tour also replaces a traditional whale-watching excursion.

“We used to start whale watches at the end of March,” said Coffin. “But now, as of last year at least, there’s a speed restriction out on Stellwagen Bank where the whales feed, and our boats will take you. So a whale watch today with a speed restriction would be about eight hours.”

That speed restriction on these waters is meant to protect one of the most endangered animals on the planet - the North Atlantic right whale.

“We’ve created this problem, we’ve caused this population to decrease significantly,” said Dr. Sarah Sharp, an animal rescue veterinarian with the International Fund for Animal Welfare. “But the good side of that is that it’s also in our hands to help save this population and really be a part of that solution for these animals.”

Spooky season may still be six months away, but you don't have to wait until fall to get in on some Halloween fun.

Spirit Halloween and US Ghost Adventures , which operates the Lizzie Borden House , are teaming up on an ax-citing collaboration.

The nation's largest Halloween retailer, with pop-up locations across the SouthCoast, has announced it's getting a head start on spooky season with "Halfway to Halloween" events that include some frightening fun in Fall River.

What is 'Halfway to Halloween'?

Part of their "Halfway to Halloween" weeklong celebration brings true crime enthusiasts and horror fans to the Spindle City to explore its infamous landmark — the Lizzie Borden House.

On Aug. 4, 1892, Lizzie Borden's father Andrew Borden, and stepmother, Abby Borden, were slain inside the 230 Second St. house as a result of multiple hatchet blows to the head what is still an unsolved case.

For years, the property has served as a bed and breakfast and museum, and in recent years under new ownership has also held guided ghost tours.

Now, one lucky winner will get a free trip and overnight stay at the historic home by entering their Lizzie Borden House giveaway.

"We are delighted to work with Spirit Halloween to roll out the red carpet and offer the public a chance to win a one-of-a-kind experience at the infamous Lizzie Borden House, which also includes additional haunted experiences and merchandise," said Lance Zaal, president and founder of US Ghost Adventures, in a press release from Spirit Halloween.

What will winners get?

Winners will have the Second Street site of the grisly Borden murders all to themselves during their eerie overnight stay.

This haunted holiday includes a guided house tour, a late-night ghost tour during which participants are equipped with "professional ghost-hunting gear," a private breakfast in the Borden family dining room, a ghost hunting starter kit and a lesson for two at US Ghost Adventures Ghost Hunting Course, and a Lizzie Borden gift shop package.

And the spooky fun doesn't end in Fall River. Winners also get their choice of a Ghost Tour experience in Salem or a True Crime experience in Boston.

According to Spirit Halloween, the lucky winner will get to take up to 12 members of their "coven" along for the "horror-filled" ride.
