"The captain was extremely nice, friendly and communicative, and pulled out all the stops in helping us discover and explore the exceptional places we visited. The entire crew were very nice and professional. The naturalist guides were dedicated and committed; we learned a great deal. We had the chance to go on a kayak trip for the first time and it was an unforgettable experience! A voyage with no negative aspects whatsoever."

Launched in 2013, Le Soleal is one of Ponant’s six luxury expedition yachts, each designed to navigate both well-known and remote waters while maintaining a high level of comfort and luxury.

This cruise ship is a shining example of modern design, boasting sleek lines, spacious decks, and an intimate atmosphere that accommodates a maximum of just 264 passengers. With a length of 142 meters (466 feet) and a beam of 18 meters (59 feet), Le Soleal is a ship that offers the perfect balance between space and intimacy.

Luxury at Every Turn

From the moment you step onboard Le Soleal, you are enveloped in an atmosphere of understated luxury. The ship’s interior is the epitome of elegance, with a contemporary design that combines chic style with warmth. The use of natural materials like wood and stone, along with soothing color palettes, creates a welcoming ambiance.

The ship’s public spaces are designed for relaxation and socialization. The Main Lounge is an inviting area where you can enjoy live entertainment, lectures, and cocktails with fellow passengers. For a more intimate experience, the Panoramic Lounge offers breathtaking views of the surroundings through large windows, making it an ideal spot for quiet contemplation or reading.

Cabins and Suites

Le Soleal offers a range of cabins and suites, each exquisitely appointed to ensure a comfortable and luxurious stay. The ship features 132 staterooms and suites, all with private balconies that allow you to immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes you’ll encounter on your voyage.

The accommodations are spacious, featuring modern amenities and thoughtful design. From the Prestige Staterooms to the Deluxe Suites and the ship’s top-tier Owner’s Suite, every room category exudes comfort and luxury. Fine linens, plush bedding, and carefully selected furnishings create an atmosphere of relaxation and indulgence.

Culinary Excellence

Dining on Le Soleal is a culinary adventure that rivals the best restaurants ashore. The ship features two dining venues: the Gastronomic Restaurant and the Grill Restaurant.

The Gastronomic Restaurant offers a sophisticated dining experience with a menu that reflects the diversity of the destinations you’ll visit. Prepared by talented chefs, each dish is a work of art, combining local flavors with international culinary techniques.

For a more casual dining experience, the Grill Restaurant, located on the ship’s outdoor deck, offers al fresco dining with a buffet-style menu. It’s the perfect spot to savor a meal while enjoying the fresh sea breeze.

Exploring the World with Le Soleal

While the luxury of the ship itself is impressive, it’s the itineraries and destinations that truly set Le Soleal apart. This cruise ship specializes in expedition cruises, taking travelers to some of the most remote and captivating corners of the world. From the icy landscapes of Antarctica to the lush tropical paradises of the South Pacific, Le Soleal offers an array of journeys that cater to different interests and preferences.

One of the ship’s remarkable features is its ability to access smaller ports and shallow waters that larger cruise ships cannot reach. This means that passengers on Le Soleal have the opportunity to explore hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path destinations, allowing for a deeper and more immersive travel experience.

Expert Expedition Teams

A significant part of the Le Soleal experience is the presence of expert expedition teams on board. These seasoned professionals, including naturalists, historians, and geologists, enhance your journey by providing valuable insights and guiding you on excursions.

Whether you’re cruising through the Galapagos Islands and learning about unique wildlife or exploring the rich history of ancient civilizations in the Mediterranean, the expedition teams on Le Soleal ensure that you gain a deeper understanding of the destinations you visit.

Enriching Activities and Excursions

In addition to the expert-led excursions, Le Soleal offers a range of activities and experiences that cater to various interests. These might include kayaking along the coastlines, snorkeling in pristine waters, or hiking in remote wilderness areas.

Onboard enrichment programs, such as lectures and workshops, provide opportunities to learn about the culture, history, and wildlife of the regions you’re visiting. These activities add depth to your journey, ensuring that you return home not only relaxed but also enriched with knowledge and memories.

Sustainability and Responsible Tourism

As the travel industry increasingly focuses on sustainability, Ponant and Le Soleal are committed to responsible tourism. The cruise line takes steps to minimize its environmental impact by implementing eco-friendly technologies and practices, including wastewater treatment, reduced emissions, and waste reduction.

Furthermore, Ponant supports local communities in the regions it visits, contributing to the protection and preservation of natural and cultural heritage. Traveling with Le Soleal means not only enjoying the lap of luxury but also participating in responsible and sustainable travel.

The Promise of Adventure and Luxury

In conclusion, Le Soleal is more than just a cruise ship; it’s a floating haven of luxury and adventure. From the elegant design of the vessel to the exquisite dining experiences, from the intimate ambiance to the expert-led excursions, Le Soleal promises a voyage that transcends the ordinary.

As you sail to some of the world’s most enchanting destinations, you’ll find that this ship is not just a mode of transportation but an integral part of the journey itself. With its commitment to luxury, sustainability, and responsible tourism, Le Soleal ensures that your voyage is not only unforgettable but also leaves a positive impact on the destinations you explore.

So, if you seek a luxury voyage to remember—one that combines comfort, culture, and discovery—consider embarking on an expedition with Le Soleal. It’s an experience that will stay with you long after you’ve returned home, a journey that captures the essence of luxury and adventure at sea.

And when it's time to turn in, your bed will be turned down… often with a sweet treat on your pillow, along with tomorrow's itinerary. You'll close your eyes and sleep to the rhythm of the seas, enjoying the reverie that's inherent on every Tauck cruise aboard Ponant's elegant small ship, Le Soléal. Read Less

For more than two decades, Tauck guests have sailed on some of the sleekest small ships on the high seas, thanks to Ponant Cruises, our largest cruise partner. When Ponant's founder Jean-Emmanuel Sauvée, based in Marseille, launched the company in 1989, his mission was clear: to bring travelers to "mythical destinations and secret ports" accessible only by small ship and to offer "front-row seats to nature's spectacles." In destinations the world over, Ponant achieves this par excellence for Tauck guests who enjoy flexible cruising, waterside dining, and a relaxed, casual feel along with attentive service from bilingual crews.

Ponant’s Le Soleal Completes Ten Years in Service

  • June 30, 2023

Le Soleal

Ponant’s Le Soléal has marked ten years in service.

Built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, the vessel was delivered to the French cruise line on June 28, 2023 .

Third in a series of four ships that started with Le Boreal in 2010, the 260-guest vessel was purpose-built to offer luxury cruises in remote parts of the globe.

During its maiden season, Le Soléal offered a series of polar expeditions to the Arctic region.

One of the highlights of the inaugural program was a crossing of the Northwest Passage from Greenland to Siberia.

Completed in September 2013 , the operation marked the first time that a French commercial ship successfully crossed the famous shipping route.

Continuing its inaugural deployments, Le Soléal repositioned to Asia for the 2013-14 winter season.

The ship’s program in the region included a total of 16 departures and 13 different itineraries.

Among the destinations that welcomed the ship during the span were Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and India, as well as Borneo, Myanmar and Oman.

Now in service in Kimberley, the 10,000-ton vessel continues to sail in the Pacific Ocean throughout 2024.

After completing its program in the Australian region, the ship is set to offer expeditions to remote parts of Oceania and Southeast Asia before repositioning to New Zealand.

In addition to itineraries to the country’s Subantarctic Islands, Le Soleal is also scheduled to sail to unique expeditions to Antarctica departing from Dunedin during the 2023-2024 winter.

Sailing to the Ross Sea, the 21-night cruises include visits to historic sites in the region, including Sir Ernest Shackleton’s hut at Cape Royd and more.

According to Ponant, Le Soleal was designed to take passengers to the “farthest reaches of the planet” while offering “five-star, top-of-the-range services.”

Described as being similar to a mega-yacht in size and appearance, the ship also carries a fleet of 11 zodiacs, in addition to many public rooms, including two restaurants, a pool deck, a theater and several bars and lounges.
