Animal crossing: 10 best dream islands you can visit right now.

Animal Crossing has allowed players to make dream islands, and these islands are a cut above the rest with their uniqueness and details.

A new month means new updates and additions to Animal Crossing: New Horizons ,  making it the perfect time for new players to start an island or veteran players to return to making their island thrive. With so many new items, now is the time for players to start making their islands the best they can be and establish their island as a hot Dream Island destination for players who love to view luxury islands while getting some rest.

Dream Islands often gain attention for their over-the-top designs or themes that match popular shows and movies, where fans can hunt for Easter eggs.

Even though Animal Crossing: New Horizons is hailed as one of the most comforting video games , expert designers have found a way to make their islands dark and spooky.

Skull Isle uses stone elements to create a gothic castle vibe across the island but also has perfectly placed fire elements that highlight the intricate designs on the ground. Instead of keeping fossils in the museum, this designer used the bones as decor, which ups the spooky factor and provides a unique design that not many islands have.

Pigu was created to mimic the most iconic elements of Disneyland and may be one of the most accurate Disney-themed Dream Islands around. The island not only has lines with a wait time similar to the park, but players can actually "ride" Animal Crossing versions of the rides the designer has made.

The main parts of the island utilize the same design elements as Main Street USA in the Disney park, making it feel even more authentic. Any Disney fan will want to save this dream code so they can revisit the island when they miss being in the actual Disney parks.

Fairycore-themed islands are common for Dream Islands on ACNH,  but few utilize the seasonal weather to make their worlds more mystical. Opalshore not only uses snow but twinkling elements that make players feel like they are in a world apart from not only reality but their islands, even if they share a similar theme.

This island's layout isn't overly complicated, which is suitable for players looking to get design ideas or take fun screengrabs for their photo collection. This island's lack of extremely expensive Animal Crossing items is also endearing and keeps the island feeling homey and somewhere players want to stay.

Valkryie ranks among the reasons to return to Animal Crossing: New Horizons for players who haven't played in a while. The island uses a unique style of terraforming that makes players feel like they are floating on small islands rather than one large one in the water.

The atmosphere is both whimsical and magical and immerses players with the option to dawn a wizard outfit to help them match the island. Valkyrie encourages players to take on a quest rather than walk around, which adds to the appeal.

Some Animal Crossing players have refused to use the children's toys in their island designs, while others have built their whole islands around the child-like aesthetic; Dollhouse is one of these islands. Upon entering the island, fans are surrounded by pink florals and pastels galore.

Toys and treat elements make the world feel like a schoolhouse fantasy, with every item having a purpose. The creator was heavily inspired by singer Melanie Martinez when making this island which is apparent by the design choices and the way villagers are dressed on the island.

Animal Crossing: New Horizon has many autumnal activities for players to partake in, and some designers were so inspired by these activities that they designed whole islands around the season. Moon is a suburban island that feels more like a neighborhood in a movie than a fantasy island.

The design utilizes paths and roads to make everything feel cozy and homey. The number of details throughout the yards and orchards will make any player envious and want to redesign their island to look just as aesthetically pleasing.

For players looking for a slice of life within Animal Crossing, there is Paradisia. Many designers do not utilize the sea-side design since there are so many fantastical options for builders to choose from that make their islands genuinely dreamlike.

The practical use of cars is a unique touch that makes the island look move-in ready for new villagers and visitors. This creature used a lot of custom designs that make the area more zen and relaxing for stressed-out players to enjoy.

Smoosh Island

Even though the island's name may be deceiving, this location is all about Harry Potter. Smoosh Island utilizes places fans will recognize from the films, which have been recreated to the best of the creature's abilities. One of the most impressive parts of the island is the recreation of Honey Duke's, where visitors can indulge in sweet treats just like in Universal Studios theme parks.

It is clear that no details were spared during this build, and even the most mundane items have something to do with the movies.

A dusky desert island isn't a common sight in animal crossing, but Sage perfectly captures the Route 66 western look. Water isn't the main feature on this island, making it even more special and realistic, as all the water features look purposeful.

This is another island that spares no details and uses every item, big or small, to make each house look unique to the residents they have on the island. Even though flowers are not bountiful on the island, it still feels lush.

This dream island isn't for people looking to explore a lush, detailed island with lots of things to look at and get inspired by. This island is strictly for players who want a challenge. The island is wholly made of terraforming elements which may seem boring to look at but is unique to maze islands which have become famous for those who don't want to build towns but want visitors.

Gamers who enjoy side quests will love this dream island and may even win a new villager if they complete the challenge.

Animal Crossing New Horizon Dream Island - Villager in front of custom hotel building

10 of the Best Dream Islands to Visit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

From odes to TV shows to seasonally-inspired islands, these dreamscapes provide some serious island-designing inspiration.

When Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduced Dream Islands, it didn’t take long for players to start showing off what they’ve made and where they’ve been. The highly-skilled among the bunch featured some carefully-terraformed — and totally incredible — designs. From odes to TV shows to seasonally-inspired islands, these dreamscapes provide some serious island-designing inspiration. And to get there, all you need is an address. A Dream Address to be specific. Fortunately, we’ve got some to share! To visit a Dream Island, just lie down in a bed and select Yeah, I want to sleep . Then, when Luna is done chatting, select I want to dream. From there, you’ll automatically connect to the internet (as long as you have a Nintendo membership) and input the code for the Dream Address when prompted. You can also visit a random Dream Island by selecting Surprise me .

Alternatively, if you want to share the dream version of your island, just click I’d like to share a dream .

It is worth noting that if you head off to Dreamland and visit someone’s island, you can’t take any items with you or bring anything back.

Animal Crossing New Horizons: The 10 Best Themed Dream Islands

Visiting other islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons can be a treat, and here are the best themed islands you can vacation to.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons first took the hearts of many backs at its initial release in March 2020. The seven-year wait meant that new addition to the franchise was definitely overdue. Although some players have described having a loss of motivation to play, trending dream islands are definitely one to convince us to pick up our Nintendo Switches again.

RELATED: Animal Crossing New Horizons; How To Use The Dream Suite (And 5 Addresses To Visit)

Impressive isn't the word for some of the dream islands in the Animal Crossing world. The creativity of many players has created a trend of extremely humorous memes and puts our islands to shame. But what's to say that visiting these islands in the dream suite won't increase our creativity and spark our inspiration?

10 Porthaven (Jungle Themed)

This island is definitely an example of creativeness at its finest. Loosely based on the city of Peru with its megadiverse climate, the island of Porthaven features rainforests, mountains, deserts and arid coastal regions. All of these features are creatively recreated and you can't miss them.

The views are simply stunning which is difficult to find on an Animal Crossing island. With surges of greenery and the appearance of overgrown shrubbery, you'll have yourselves contemplating whether you're even playing the same game as this creator. Even with its own recreation of a tiny deserted island, this dream island really isn't one to miss.

9 Sinagtala (Maze Themed)

When you visit your next themed dream island, why don't you make it a challenging one? Sinagtala is well known for its complex maze theme and hours of fun. The Filipino-made island is currently at its fourth version! The dream address has been visited 1,500+ times for Versions 3 and 4.

With version 4 having a completion rate of only 9 per cent, it's impossible to not want to give it a go. The average run time sits at 3 hours. With popularity only growing for this incredibly creative island, the competitive streak in us to complete this maze is only increasing. Version 1 simply started as an obstacle course and has successfully adapted to what it is today. Would you dare give it a try?

Dream Address: DA-7011-1523-2714

8 Tatooine (Jurassic Park Themed)

If you're a fan of the Jurassic Park movies then look no further. An island dedicated to the Jurassic Park movies? Yes, please! With over 200 hours of gameplay, this island is a must-see. Try to look for the hidden easter egg that the player's dream character says when you engage in conversation.

The vibrant colors and dinosaur fossils will have you thinking that you've truly gone back in time to witness these prehistoric creatures. And if that doesn't inspire your interest enough, a small reference to a certain famous green ogre.

Dream Address: DA-7410-6451-7708

7 Hogsmeade (Harry Potter Themed)

Harry Potter dream islands will never get old. The island of Hogsmeade will have all of your Harry Potter fantasies coming to life again. Do you have a favourite Harry Potter movie or location? Then this island is the one to visit.

RELATED: Animal Crossing: 10 Harry Potter Themed Dream Islands That Will Have You Dreaming Of Hogwarts

With recreations of locations throughout the eight movies, this island creator truly has let no idea pass by. If you're a fan of the hugely successful franchise then you can't miss out on visiting the dream island of Hogsmeade. The dream-like aesthetic adds to the realism that you're living your Harry Potter fantasy like never before.

Dream Island: DA-6652-5257-4623

6 Cabbage (Cottagecore And Farming Themed)

The island of Cabbage brings all of your cottagecore and farming dreams to life. Seriously, how do creators have this much imaginations? With the usage of items like bamboo, barbed wire and even overgrown weeds, it compliments the island's cottagecore and farming aesthetic perfectly.

Recreating churches, rice paddies, farms, and even wet markets, the island took over a year to be created. The creator himself has even created short films of his island as he puts his creativity on show. These films took over two months to create!

Dream Address: DA-0749-9412-1502

5 Motostoke (Rustic Industrial Themed)

If you're looking for realism, then any island created by the streamer, Horrible Gaming, is one to look out for. The rustic and industrial themed island of Motostoke is truly incredible. With scattered objects across the ground and even its own train station, you'll want to live in this dream forever.

The streamer loves to create an island that has people contemplating whether they've even still playing Animal Crossing! Using in-game items that you've never even thought of, it definitely will get your creative minds racing with ideas even if it's to flatten your whole island... Again.

Dream Address: DA-7708-8803-8488

4 Twinfalls (Forest Themed)

Using naturalism to its finest, the island of Twinfalls is evidently one of the best and most creative forests that you will have ever seen in Animal Crossing. With a huge log bridge made of creative QR codes and buildable items, it ties the forest-themed island of Twinfalls perfectly.

Rocks, greenery and wood are the main aesthetic of this island. This island is a true example of being simple but effective and it's utterly perfect. Isabelle is known to rank down islands for any overuse of trees but this island definitely gets a 5 star from us.

Dream Address: DA-2103-3641-9506

3 Lupita Island (Celestial Themed)

There is no doubt in our minds that Celeste loves the island of Lupita. This celestial themed island puts all intergalactic dreams to life. You'll feel like you can defy gravity in this dream island (literally.)

RELATED: Gaming Detail: Villagers Wake Up In A Unique Way After A Dream In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Put your best space suit on to celebrate this island's theme in its optimism. With space shuttles, rockets, and even stars dotted around the island, make sure to use your best photography skills to the test to capture these unique moments as you've never seen them before.

Dream Address: DA-5283-5575-6357

2 Evee (Bridgerton Themed)

For all the Bridgerton lovers out there, your dreams have just come true. No pun intended. A dream island based on the popular Netflix show itself is definitely a show of amazing creativity. With over 1,000 hours of gameplay, there is no stone left unturned to bring all these fantasy dreams to life.

Based in 19th century London, specifically the Bridgerton location of Clyvedon village, Evee island has all references to the popular series, including the Bridgerton house, the Queen's castle, royal gardens, the maze, men's club, opera, and even Lady Whistledown's secret painting area.

Dream Address: DA-4231-3415-6962

1 Hiun City (Japanese Citycore Themed)

This Japanese city-themed island is jaw-droppingly stunning. With the added touch of pink blossom trees, you'll truly feel as if you're in Japan. With aesthetic lanterns and an abundance of pink and green plant shrubbery, you will be awe-stricken.

With the illusion of Japanese apartments, the Animal Crossing island puts you in city heaven. The dream island has hours of crafted gameplay and it clearly shows! When visiting this beautifully created dream island make sure to admire the glowing sunset to take the island in for its optimistic quality.

The coolest Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands

Michael Hicks

Casual Animal Crossing: New Horizons vacationers think the game is all about hunting for critters, playing the stalk market, and enjoying the quiet island ambiance. Psh! In fact, New Horizons is a hardcore designer sandbox, where true architects flock to show off their skills. And thanks to social media and the new tools Nintendo gave players to sculpt their island in countless ways, we’ve found some truly beautiful (and weird) islands that push the game to its limit.

Here, we’ve scoured all corners of the internet to pull together a list of the 25 best designs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons . They feature everything from recreations of real places to a spooky cemetery to a quaint coffee shop and zen garden. But no matter how unique they are, they all share one thing in common: An eye for great design.

In normal times, more than 2 million tourists a year flock to the gorgeous Greek island of Santorini, or Thera, where its classic whitewashed buildings are built into the hilltop. In lieu of visiting in person, make a trip to this excellent locale, which really captures the bright urban aesthetic. The creator mostly succeeds using regular game items, but there are also patterns used to great effect for the fake windows on the walls.

Using custom dirt patterns, watermelon beach balls, and some excellent gardening choices, this designer created a rustic garden that truly wouldn’t look out of place in a 3D farming simulator. Most architects tend to focus more on urban mini-cities, while flowers and trees are merely decorative — but this island shows you can make the nature tools of New Horizons into an aesthetic all your own.

Where most people would see a creepy, massive bug crawling out to attack, one creator saw an opportunity. This silly office layout is filled to the brim with cute little touches, thanks to custom designs. One bug is actually coding, while another slacks off watching YouTube (and is apparently close with the villager Rocket). One bug sketching in the back has even crumpled some designs in frustration, and the middle-left bug is a bit vain. These are the kind of meticulous details that really “wow” island visitors.

My tiered residential area! from animalcrossingdesign

Many island planners tend to shove the houses to one corner of the island so they have more room for zany designs and public spaces. Yet, as this island shows, incorporating them into your design can be truly impressive. The creator gave each villager their own distinct yard and front lawn that showcase their personality, and the tiered layout makes it a beautiful journey to go and visit each home.

Just looking at this recreation of an Ichiraku Ramen restaurant makes our stomach rumble. The creator used a nice mix of terraforming and fencing for the walls, custom designs for the signage, and common kitchen items to add to the decor. Many creators design around outdoor dining instead of outdoor cooking, but this restaurant stall adds a unique visual landmark to the island that won’t feel as empty if no one is sitting at it.

Some designers create such magical realms that you forget this game is set on a tropical island. Terraforming is tricky when you’re not creating straight lines or circles, but this island’s whimsical path, crooked rivers, and lush waterfalls truly make you feel like you’ve been transported somewhere special. The custom-patterned leaves, mushrooms, petals, and path really complete the look.

눈 오는 게 예뻐서🌨 #ACNH pic.twitter.com/SjVQ0Lo90V — 너심sim🌨 (@NEOSIM_) April 30, 2020

Did Nintendo release a City Folk DLC, or are some creators just incredibly creative? Many designers like to play with forced perspective, using small items and tricky camera angles to make the island look bigger than it is. In this case, they used barrels that double as smokestacks, making the silos and poles look that much taller — the island is now a downtown metropolis. If you want to surprise your friends with an optical illusion screenshot, seek out other forced-perspective designs on social media. They’re surprisingly simple to recreate.

NYC’s High Line

Here’s another instance of a designer really capturing the essence of a real-life location. Using terraforming to simulate a giant elevated track and excellent custom-designed panels in front of furniture to imitate buildings, you’ll feel transported into one of the prettiest portions of the Big Apple — except it’s less crowded than usual!

Find me a gamer who would say “no” to owning a personal gaming den like this one. The arcade cabinets, consoles, and wallpaper are in-game items, but this design goes the extra mile with little custom touches. Retro Pokémon posters, nerdy gaming attire, and a Zelda screensaver all add up to make this a prime hangout spot.

Pac-Man rose design (finally got enough blue roses) from animalcrossingdesign

Garden art is a surprisingly cool way to create art on your island, without having to fiddle with the Custom Designs app or buy the right furniture. As the creator runs past his excellent Pac-Man recreation made using flowers, you can almost hear the famous waka-waka noises in your head. If you build up your flower collection in all colors, you’ll have the tools to brighten up your island with your favorite characters.

here's hoping lily likes her new home ♡ #acnh #animalcrossing pic.twitter.com/HZmYuLXIIH — marnie 🍞🧚🏼🌷 (@loafsie) April 19, 2020

While many beautiful islands in New Horizons rely on rare items, Twitter user @kklilies has found a way to keep things minimal while bringing out the natural charm of the island. The town is nothing more than well-designed waterways, wooden plank walkways, and carefully-placed trees and flowers. If you have plenty of time on your hands — but lack some of the more valuable items in New Horizons — this is a great island design to try and replicate.

 Urban utopia

Sometimes you come across an island that looks so different from your own, you wonder if you’re even playing the same game. That’s the case with this masterpiece, which is easily one of the most compact, dense, and gritty urban layouts we’ve ever come across.

Pokémon themed

Making liberal use of custom path designs, this user was able to recreate the visuals from early games in the Pokémon series. It even features a giant Snorlax that is “blocking” the villager’s path.

Another excellent urban design , this island offers players a bit more space to roam about and includes several city blocks full of shops, houses, and public gardens. The amount of zen fencing in this one is staggering — we can’t even imagine how long it took to stockpile enough resources to build it all.

It’s a bit on the scary side for Animal Crossing, but this cemetery is easily one of the coolest things we’ve seen players create. And with the addition of Redd’s sculptures, it’s a bonafide masterpiece. On the bright side, Wisp now has a place to call home!

Finding the right furniture to accent your home can be a frustrating experience. However, this designer shows that you don’t need fancy items to put together a beautiful room. Using simple tables, a few lamps, and lots of picture frames, you can easily replicate this relaxing aesthetic.

I love life on the beach🌴🥥🌞 #animalcrossing #nintendo #animalcrossingnewhorizons #newhorizons #acnh pic.twitter.com/RyNdlZcuBh — 🌺 Ashley Jade 🌺 (@summerbornrose) April 29, 2020

Summer may be ending soon for us, but on this island, beach life is always in season! Not only is the house just steps from the shore, but the seashell-related items in the game have given this corner of the world a washed-out, beachy vibe. Plus, there’s great use of custom designs to draw hearts in the sand. How can you not like it?

???? ????????????????’???? ℂ????????é ☕️ i’m not the best at designing yet but I gave it a try! It was very relaxing to put this together. While this design does rely on some rare kitchen furniture, there’s no denying how cozy it is. Accenting the corner bookcases with rustic table stands and flowers pulls the room together, and excellent use of the NookPhone’s camera app makes this shop look incredibly inviting.

Sometimes all you need are flowers, trees, and a place to sit. A simple, well-crafted layout goes a long way — and this breezy plaza proves it.

Blathers’ biggest fan

It’s hard to tell what the island looks like on foot, but from the air it’s a sight to behold. While some gamers are struggling to use the new terraforming tools, this player took things to the next level and turned their island into a massive shrine for their favorite museum curator.

After the wedding on Harv’s Island , this is definitely where Reese and Cyrus held their reception. The impeccable place settings and floral centerpieces, the elevated stage for classical concertos, the custom flooring, and the sound of the waves make this beachfront restaurant a beautiful spot.

We’re not sure if this is good island design, but it sure is hilarious . Visitors to this player’s island are instantly greeted with a series of beds that they need to lie down in before getting to town. All told, it takes an additional 10 seconds to go through the checkpoint — something you won’t want to do after having to deal with the lengthy load times associated with flying on Dodo Airlines.

I ADDED A CRAZY GOLF COURSE #AnimalCrossing #ACNH #NintendoSwitch pic.twitter.com/AJ0ev0taY4 — Amy 🌿🌲🍂 (@acrossingamy) April 20, 2020

You cannot putt on the mini-golf course as it only serves as a pleasant backdrop that adds to the island’s vibe. This very talented Twitter user was able to customize paths to construct this visual golf course, which is one of the more inventive island designs we’ve seen so far. Each hole even comes with its own special them, like Bunny Day, Beach, and Outer Space. Each of these unique objects likely contributes significantly to raising their overall island rating .

I designed a Zelda-inspired dungeon in Animal Crossing

New Horizons! #AnimalCrossing #AnimalCrossingNewHorizons #ACNH pic.twitter.com/cAOq6oa3qa — John Pirruccello (@PairofCellos) April 17, 2020

While it does have significant differences from the real thing, this construction would make The Legend of Zelda creators proud. This user created a mini-dungeon that would fit in seamlessly in Hyrule. You’ll also find a “boss” character to defeat in the dungeon, similar to Zelda. However, there are no Heart Containers to signal defeat in the process.

Check out this tiny zen garden for the epitome of peaceful design, graceful work, and uncomplicated application. This serene garden provides a safe haven from your bustling island life. You can create and construct any objects you like in the garden and they will disperse seamlessly into the minimalistic and vast design of the garden area.

The video game demo is starting to come back into fashion.

Companies like Sony and Nintendo are offering demos for some of their biggest games of the year, like Stellar Blade and Princess Peach Showtime!, respectively. Not all demos are made equally, though. It can be difficult to get the feel of an entire game across in a demo featuring a small part of the experience; the brevity of Nintendo's recent demos has been especially frustrating. That's why Square Enix's approach to releasing a demo for SaGa: Emerald Beyond sticks out to me so much.

Mini-games and side activities are by no means new to the Like a Dragon franchise, but Dondoko Island in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth almost feels like an entire second game packed inside. Once you're introduced to the titular island and shown the ropes, you never have to interact with it again if you don't want to, but on the other hand, you could sink dozens of hours into doing nothing else. You're tasked with trying to return this once-thriving resort to glory, but there's quite a bit that needs to get done before that dream can become a reality. The key here is to get up to a 5-Star ranking, which may initially seem very daunting. Time to grab your bat, net, and harpoon so we can bring Dondoko Island back to glory with these key tips. Best Dondoko Island tips and tricks

When you're just getting your feet wet with Dondoko Island, try to focus on the simple things first to get your first star. Start your days clearing out all the trash you can with your bat, collecting basic resources like rocks and wood, and snagging any bugs and shiny objects you happen upon. Following that, do all your daily tasks to start saving up some Dokobucks. The goal in this stage is to increase the satisfaction meter by building DIY objects with the highest satisfaction value, which will also raise your building skill. By clearing the track each day, you will reduce the cost of renovating that area for use down the line. Try to wait until they are A or S rank to save cash.

Palworld, the new creature-collecting survival game that fans have dubbed "Pokémon with guns," has become a viral hit on launch day. With Pokémon being a Nintendo console-exclusive franchise (and one of the most successful video game franchises of all time), it's no surprise that gamers who stick to other platforms are eager for the chance to capture and battle with oddball creatures in an open-world setting.

The jury is still out on whether Palworld is going to last or if its launch day sales figures are the result of it becoming a Pokémon clone meme since it was announced. Regardless, now is the best time to jump in while everyone else is learning about the world. You don't want to fall behind.

[Top 10] Animal Crossing New Horizons Best Islands That Look Awesome

New Horizons DIY image

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the most popular design-related games in the world. It features all kinds of customization and creation options for creating anyone’s dream island.

This allows players’ creativity to flourish, and births a ton of amazing and unbelievable islands. But not every one of them can make this list, so read to find out which islands are the most amazing!

10. Moonset Island by Leanne

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Starting off this list strong is Moonset island by Leanne! Moonset island is a forest-themed island with lots of terraforming and waterscaping. It was awarded five stars by Isabelle, and it clearly shows!

Moonset island focuses on the beauty of simplicity. It features natural wood furniture like wild log benches and log stakes. Most of the island is taken by plant life, such as flowers, bushes, and trees.

Moonset island’s simplicity doesn’t make it plain. In fact, its lack of elaborate illusions or furniture-cluttered rooms allows it to focus on larger, natural scenery instead. The island is filled with waterfalls, winding streams, and flower-filled cliffs instead. This gives the island a bright, inviting feeling.

Cohesive Scheme

The color scheme on Moonset island is a selection of white, beige/brown shades, and green. These colors go very well together and don’t clash at all, making the island very pleasing to the eyes.

They also fit the theme of the island, giving it a bright but soft feeling. The rest of the island’s selection of furniture and custom pathways and signs also contribute to this. All of it ties together perfectly into the simple but pretty forest theme.

9. Moon Island by Colin

fun islands to visit animal crossing

The next is the similarly named Moon island, by Colin! This island has a “Halloween in the suburbs” theme, which is pulled off creatively and beautifully. Visitors will love this tiny town of spooks!

Color Scheme

Colin’s selection of colors fits Moon island perfectly. The various shades of yellow, brown, orange and red bring the signature autumn vibes. None of the colors clash. In fact, they compliment each other well while also remaining appropriate for both the theme and the season.

The greatest charm of Moon island is its creativity. Colin utilizes all sorts of methods to create whatever they need for their island, especially when certain things don’t exist. For example, they utilize lots of custom designs to create anything from a toilet-papered house to diagonal roads.

A Popular Theme

Halloween is the fourth most celebrated holiday in the world. This makes Moon island’s Halloween theme extremely relevant and appealing to visitors. This island will be sure to attract all sorts of guests, and bring inspiration to players with unfinished islands!

8. Aurelia Island by Daisy

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Aurelia island is a vintage-themed island. It comes with a lot of natural scenery and whimsical energy. The creator’s Resident Representative is Daisy.

Very Scenic

Aurelia boasts plenty of beautiful natural scenery. It features forests, flowers, and natural landscapes. The streams, waterfalls, and cliffs were carefully crafted by Daisy to create the pretty and natural looks of the island.

Fitting Colors

The color palette for Aurelia mostly consists of neutral colors such as white, beige, and brown, as well as plenty of green from the plant life. While some might consider this plain or boring, Daisy manages to make it not only interesting but pretty as well.

The simplicity of the colors allows guests to focus on the beauty of the natural landscape instead of being distracted by bright colors. It gives the island a sunny vintage vibe.

Much like every island on this list, Aurelia is very creatively made. Plenty of sections and structures are made almost exclusively through custom designs, such as the diagonal roads and the outdoor picnic blankets and rugs- all of which are features not otherwise allowed in the game. Seemingly random yet fitting items, such as cushions and books and giant mushrooms are placed about the island as well, giving Aurelia its whimsical side.

7. Sage Island by Leaf

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Sage island is a desert town-themed island. Its Resident Representative is Leaf. It features elaborate forced perspective illusions and creative execution of designs.

Unique Theme

Sage island’s desert town theme is very unique. Since giving the island a desert look when it’s full of grass and trees is difficult, this theme isn’t very common. This can be appealing to guests, who won’t have seen this kind of town before.

When creating a desert out of a fruitful island, it’s unsurprising that it takes a bit of creativity to pull off. Still, Sage island goes above and beyond. To create proper canyons or desert hills, the creator collected an enormous amount of termite mounds to repurpose into sand mounds.

Custom design paths were also used, from making fake sand or dirt to roads and picnic blankets. They even created a fake building out of storefronts.

Part of the creativity of Sage island includes its elaborate setup. While it would still be considered creative to make fake buildings and call it a day, Sage island truly goes above and beyond to not only make the island look good, but also realistic.

From an irrigation system for their farm to a Route 66 complete with traffic lights and actual cars and trucks. One of the most impressive parts is certainly the fake canyon with a waterfall, and the view of it in the distance players can enjoy from a cliff’s edge.

6. Pickleton Island by Pickle

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Our next island is called Pickleton! Interestingly enough, its Resident Representative is Pickle. Ironically, this island is not, in fact, pickle-themed. It is instead a breathtaking “rural town meets castlecore” island.

Undeniably Pretty

First and foremost, it’s important that an island is appealing in some way. The meaning behind this is that it shouldn’t be hard to look at.

If visitors find the island ugly or plain, they won’t want to visit. So whether it's scary or elegant, pretty or terrifying, there needs to be some kind of appeal. And Pickleton is certainly pretty.

Awesome Aesthetic

Rural towns and castlecore are very popular themes within the New Horizons community. However, few can manage to create a stunning mix of both. Pickleton does exactly that, mixing both castle structures with storefronts and cars to make a stunning little town settled in an abandoned castle.

Easy Navigation

Despite how full of furniture and decor the island is, Pickleton somehow keeps from being too cluttered and confusing to navigate. Even without using a map, getting lost is more of a difficult task than not. The island’s clear pathways, lined with buildings and flowers, are both scenic and helpful.

5. Dummyville Island by Dummy

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Much like Pickleton, Dummyville is named after its Resident Representative, Dummy. Also like Pickleton, it is nothing like its name would suggest. Dummyville is an island filled with abandoned magical ruins.

Amazing Aesthetic

Dummyville boasts a magical set of ruins, complete with glowing moss and crumbling pillars. Its beauty is almost ethereal, in part from its glowing star clocks and moons. Vines creep across its cliffs, and statues and altars are scattered amongst the ruins, making it truly feel as if something magical was laid to rest and forgotten there.

Everything in Dummyville fits. From the butterfly models to the villagers, the only thing that doesn’t seem to feed into the aesthetic is the name of Dummyville itself.

Resident Representative Dummy made sure to select only the most magical of residents, such as Julian the unicorn-inspired horse, Judy the glittering bear cub, and Ione, the celestial glowing squirrel. Rare flowers add to the touch of its mystique.

Elaborate and Detailed

An island this beautiful couldn’t be done without detail and dedication. Many of the items are difficult to get, with most of the DIY materials being rare, such as star fragments.

Not only are there plenty of these items on Dummyville, but their placements and the structures built around them are elaborate and intricate, even inside the homes. It takes time, effort, and careful planning to create the illusion of a massive castle, which is precisely what Dummy did, using castle walls, pillars, and residential homes.

4. Moondust Island by Yuna

fun islands to visit animal crossing

It seems that misleading names are a common trend for the best New Horizons islands. Moondust is a terrifying horror island. Created by Resident Representative Yuna, its deceitfully soft name will give visitors a false sense of security when arriving at this rainy zombie land.

Moondust is the only island on this list with a zombie apocalypse theme. While others have certainly created all manner of scary or spooky islands, it can be difficult to pull off, since Animal Crossing is a kid-friendly franchise.

This means creators often have to put in even more effort than usual into creating something truly horrifying. This makes Moondust unique and even appealing to players who want to see something new and well done.

Horrifyingly Imaginative

As stated before, scary islands are especially difficult in Animal Crossing. Most spooky items are more on the “scary-cute” end, to not terrify any of the younger players. As a result, scary-themed islands have to rely on their own creativity and imagination to bring their visions to fruition.

Moondust utilizes custom designs and seemingly innocuous items such as campfires and termite mounds to create their desired apocalyptic atmosphere. To get the player further into the spirit, they even gift visitors with an ax upon arrival, as if to defend themselves from the zombies.

Resident Representative Yuna certainly went all out. From disturbingly well-done blood splatter to broken windows and giant ‘help’ signs in blood, they made sure to paint a vision of a town destroyed and overrun by zombies.

Many of the structures are forced perspectives and realistic town structures, such as junkyards or tech stores made of flatscreens and neon signs. The sky's the limit for Yuna, who clearly doesn’t intend to allow the game’s furniture limitations to stop them from creating a proper apocalypse.

3. Sonder Island by Rosalie

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Finally into the top 3 is someone certainly deserving of the honors. Sonder island is a breathtaking botanical garden island. Its Resident Representative and sole human villager is Rosalie.

Sonder is a botanical garden island. As such, having beautiful scenery everywhere is almost par for the course.

Still, it takes effort and dedication to create an island that consists entirely of photogenic scenery. Guests will be sure to find this appealing, whether it’s to take pictures of their own or simply enjoy walking through the pathways and enjoying the view themselves.

Perfect Atmosphere

Rosalie makes sure to create an atmosphere that suits the theme of a botanical garden island. Sonder is bright and inviting, much like any picturesque garden or meadow would be. The flowers and furniture are vibrant without being painful to look at, and there’s a wide range of them to keep from being monotonous without them clashing.

The cohesion on Sonder island is one of the biggest contributors to this perfect atmosphere. As previously mentioned, there’s a variety of colors on the island. The palette is a selection of pink, white, yellow, orange, green, and blue.

All of the shades are bright without being obnoxious. The colors selected for each section complement each other well, and it all comes together perfectly.

2. Camen Island by Annie

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Coming in second place is Camen Island! This is a fantastic Christmas-themed island, for all your festive winter needs! Their Resident Representative goes by annie, with an intentional lowercase “A”.

A Well-Loved Aesthetic

Christmas is the most celebrated holiday in the entire world. This makes it an extremely relevant and appealing theme for a wide variety of guests. This island would sure put anyone who likes Christmas into the holiday spirit!

Every inch of Camen island is aesthetically pleasing. This makes it perfect for photo-ops or just having a lovely stroll. Visitors would love taking pictures for social media or simply imagining themselves living in an eternal Christmas winter wonderland.

As lovely as many of the more elaborate islands are, it’s an unfortunate side effect that some of them have the tendency to be difficult to navigate. With an abundance of items often causing switches to lag or clutter up a space, some players will easily get lost in more complicated island builds even with their maps.

Fortunately, Camen island manages to have a lot of decor without obscuring any pathways. The walkways are mostly wide and clear, so players can freely explore without fear of getting stuck or lost.

1.  Wonderland Island by Tigerlily

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Finally, here is our number one best, most amazing island! Last but certainly not least is Wonderland island by Tigerlily! This island is a stunning sprawling botanical garden set in a castlecore town.

An Immaculate Aesthetic

Wonderland’s castlecore garden town is a combination of some of the most aesthetically pleasing and popular themes currently circulating online. As such, this aesthetic is one of its biggest selling points. Who wouldn’t want to stroll down a delightful winding stone path surrounded by flowers and old castle walls? It truly lives up to its name.

Creative and Elaborate

While this is definitely one of the most common points on this list, it certainly takes a lot of effort to come up with and properly execute a design for an entire island. It deserves to be commended.

Especially when creators go above and beyond to not only create items that don’t exist, but build huge structures using a couple of strategically-placed items. And Tigerlily certainly went above and beyond in this category, repurposing anything from storefronts to lighthouses to make giant multi-level buildings.

As mentioned, Wonderland island is incredibly stunning. Unsurprising, since it’s a giant garden! There are flowers everywhere, as well as stone walls and paths and lovely waterfalls. There isn’t a single place on this island that wouldn’t make an amazing backdrop for pictures!

Want to know how to use this dodo code forum?

This is a friendly dodocode/turnips exchange forum. To use this forum you would need to share your ACNH Dodo Code, to allow users to visit your island to have fun and explore the creations and imagination of others.

We want everyone to enjoy the game, and to get excited when the turnip prices are high, so you can get rid of them or when users are doing giveaways on their island, storytelling or playing games.

Commonly asked questions

Experiencing interference.

This usually means that another user is travelling to the island at the same time. Please wait a few minutes and then try to join again.

What does FULL mean?

When you see FULL on our website it means that the island is maxed out which means unless the owner of the island posts their dodo code again, you won't be able to visit that island. We do this because some users want to have only a couple of users on their island.

What games can I create when I have vistors?

Here are a few which we've come up with:

  • Bug off - Requires a timer.
  • Who can catch the biggest fish - Requires a timer
  • Treasure Hunt
  • Island Mazes
  • Hide and Seek
  • Net hitting tag
  • Is this a pitfall seed or an item?

What should I do before opening my island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

If you have any items lying around on your island that you don't want visitors to take, make sure you pick them up and store them in your inventory. You could place a fence around these items.

The items which are affected are:

  • Items that have been dropped and not placed. This includes fossils and DYI recipes.
  • All type of fruits (Apple, Cherry, Coconuts, Orange, Peach, Pear), including the fruit still hanging on trees.
  • Star Fragments

Make sure you shake your Hardwood or Cedar Tree so you can get the two daily items that are hidden on them - your visitors could get them before you!

What can visitors do on other Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands?

  • Plant flowers
  • Shake trees
  • Dig fossils
  • Set pitfall traps

10 Fun Resort Island Ideas For Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Bright poolside resort area - ACNH Screenshot

It can seem like such a chore being stranded on an island, trying to rebuild society with a bunch of cute & cuddly animals.

You probably need somewhere to relax from all that building you’re doing.

What you need is a special spot on your island to get away, a resort of sorts, if you will.

Well if you’re looking to design a resort area for your island, these ideas are sure to help. We’ve got spas, pools, and fancy beaches, all to help you take a load off and enjoy the tropical island life.

10. Bamboo Day Spa

Bamboo Day Spa Idea in ACNH

The bamboo aesthetic is a common one in New Horizons.

And here’s a beautiful example of how to use it in a relaxed setting.

Obviously, you’ll need some bamboo trees here to get started. And you’ll want to carefully place them to provide shade for your lounging guests.

Then you’d also want to chop some bamboo to craft bamboo floor lamps, and a bamboo shelf as well. There are many customization options here, but I think the light wood color goes best in this spa design.

Lastly, you’ll need to purchase a wood burning stove, a whirlpool bath, and some poolside bed. That way you have someplace to lie down and enjoy the summer breeze!

9. Beach Bar

Customized Beach Bar Area - ACNH Idea

The most important part about making this beachside bar is finding the right location .

Select a nice place by the water, whether it’s the surrounding ocean or a nearby river.

You’d also want some den desks to create the bar area, and some rattan stools to sit on.

Also, try to buy some rattan chairs for the common area too, just to match the bar seats.

And the most important part of any beach scene is all the palm trees and coconuts.

While you can plant palm trees at your leisure, it’s the DIY recipes you can make from them that you’ll want to focus on.

Craft some palm tree lamps for some nighttime mood lighting, and throw in some coconut juice so you’ll have refreshments to pass around.

8. Seaside Lounge

Seaside resort lounge idea - ACNH

This idea particularly plays well facing out overlooking the open ocean as beachside deck from a hotel.

The rattan furniture is typical for these beach scenes, so be sure to buy some chairs and tables, as well as some poolside beds.

To create the deck flooring, you’ll need to make (or download) some custom designs. It’s worth the effort to truly capture the look of a hotel deck.

My favorite part with this design has to be the stall that holds an infused water dispenser and some coconut juice, both of which you’ll need to craft from fruits.

It’s the little details that make this lounge area worth building.

7. Brunch Lobby

Brunch hotel lobby design - ACNH

Many resorts often have cute little dining areas to grab a bite. And no meal is better than brunch!

For the reception desk in this design, you’ll need a couple den desks and a menu chalkboard.

I also think the antique chairs and mini tables are a good choice for a fun place to enjoy brunch.

Light herringbone flooring and the beige blossoming walls complement each other nicely. And they complement the meal very nicely .

Brunch couldn’t be complete without some tea sets, so be sure to throw those in there somewhere too.

6. Outdoor Snowy Spa

Outdoor snowy spa in winter - ACNH

Out of all the seasons to hang outdoors in a relaxing bath, winter is probably your last choice.

However, it sure makes for a beautiful scene.

The sand and poolside beds in this idea both have custom designs that scream “sunny, beachside resort”.

You can also place a cypress bathtub and cypress plants right in the middle, basically the focal point of this spa build.

You’ll also want to plant tons of palm trees in the area, just to collect a bit of snow in the winter and really give this design a wintery sparkle!

5. Infinity Pool

Infinity pool build in ACNH

Have you seen any pictures of those pools that have no ground surrounding them?

Just a big glass box full of water – and yeah, they look amazing.

Well, this idea recreates one of those infinity pools (to the best of your ability) within New Horizons.

To build this yourself, you’ll want the typical resort decorations such as palm trees, palm tree lamps, coconut juice, and poolside chairs.

But I’m boring myself here.

The part you want to know about is the infinity pool itself. For that, you want to do some construction and sculpt so that the water runs off the backside of a cliff.

Then, surround the rest of the pool with floor lights so the nighttime pool party can begin.

4. Poolside Housing

Poolside housing and hotel area - ACNH

Lately I’ve been obsessed with creating fun environments for each of my villagers, right outside of their homes.

This fun idea stood out to me because it expertly uses the custom design feature to create an environment to include all my many villagers.

The boardwalks and water styles are both custom designs that you’ll need to pave on the ground from house to house.

You can also use rattan chairs and poolside beds for some waterside furniture.

Lastly, place beach balls in the water for to fit that island resort aesthetic.

3. Enchanted Forest Hot Springs

Hot springs in the forest - ACNH

This idea is simple, but gorgeous, which tends to be my favorite type of design!

Some jungle wallpaper and flooring is the first step to setting up this gorgeous, natural, indoor resort area.

Next you’ll need a bunch of stones to craft an outdoor bath… to place indoors.

And there are some small touches that I appreciate, like the wooden duck and leaf pile this player crafted. They really make this feel like an outdoor paradise!

2. Tropical Resort

Tropical resort build in ACNH

Here’s an even more stunning resort idea that uses custom designs as well. And they’re using custom designs in a very unique manner, I might add!

If you crafted some parasols for Festivale, you’ll want to dig them out of your storage and use them here.

They make for great shade for the beach lounge chairs and beach towels positioned along the banks of the river.

And as a finishing touch, purchase tons of life rings to ride down your resort river! (er, at least you can pretend to)

1. Japanese Bathhouse

Custom Japanese-themed Bathouse in ACNH

This idea uses so many concepts I’ve mentioned earlier, but it brings them together into one flawless concept.

Use rush tatami flooring and shoji screen wallpaper to set up the base of this room.

You’ll also want multiple cypress bathtubs so that everyone has a place to relax.

Also, save up lots of stones, because each of the stone lion-dogs requires 24 stones to craft. And the stone archway needs 90 to craft. Yikes!

Lastly, to wrap up this build yourself, craft some bamboo partitions for a little privacy. And maybe a bamboo shelf area for storage.

Then you’ve got yourself one relaxing resort bathhouse!

What Is Good Island Etiquette?

  • Frequently Asked Questions

What to Know

  • Go to the Airport and select I wanna fly! > I wanna visit someone > Search for a friend or Enter a Dodo code .
  • To travel to a new random island, buy a Nook Mile Ticket from Resident Services and use it at the airport.
  • To unlock Harv’s Island, establish three plots of land. After he invites you, choose Visit Harv's Island at the airport.

This article explains how to visit other islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Visiting other islands requires access to the airport, which opens up after completing the game's early stages.

Once you know your Switch friend's island is open, either locally or online, or you have their Dodo code, you can join them at the airport. Here's what to do.

Go to the Airport.

Speak to Orville and select I wanna fly!

Select I wanna visit someone

Choose whether to join a local island or go online.

Local only works if your friend is playing the game nearby physically.

Select either Search for a friend or Enter a Dodo code.

The former looks for friends on your friends list with open islands, while the latter requires you to enter a code given out by the host.

Choose to join the island and visit.

How to Visit Other Islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Another way to visit an island in Animal Crossing New Horizons is to use Nook Miles to buy Nook Miles Tickets to a random island. On the island, you can collect resources you may not already have available on your island. Here's how to visit.

Go to the Terminal in the Resident Services building.

Buy a Nook Mile Ticket for 2,000 Nook Miles.

You may need to collect more Nook Miles by completing daily tasks.

Speak to Orville.

Select Use Nook Miles Ticket .

Travel to the new random island.

You can harvest trees and bamboo, collect fruit, collect flowers, and meet new villagers on the island. You can also invite the villagers back to your island.

Once you leave, you will never return to the same island, so don't leave anything essential on the island.

How to Visit Harv’s Island in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Harv's Island unlocks once you have established three plots of land for new villagers on your island. He appears randomly to invite you over. Here's how to visit.

Select Visit Harv's Island .

Select Time for takeoff!

At Harv's Island, players can take photos in his photo studio setup. It's also possible to access an unlimited supply of all your items and fossils within the studio.

When visiting other people's islands, you should follow some polite rules. Here's a brief overview.

  • Don't linger for too long. Like in real life, know when to leave. Don't outstay your welcome. If you've come solely to exchange goods, go once you've done so.
  • Respect the island. Don't trash another player's island by chopping down trees or picking all their flowers. Leave it in as good condition as you found it.
  • Never 'leave quietly.' It's possible to leave an island 'quietly' by pressing the - button to leave, but this can be buggy and cause issues for players, especially if you've just traded items. Leave via the airport to ensure this does not happen.
  • Communicate with the other player. It's friendly to say 'hey' and talk to the other player, as well as potentially leave a gift. After all, you're a visitor to their home!

There is no specific timeframe for Redd's visits, but you can expect to find him wandering about your island once every couple of weeks. Sometimes, you'll hear an announcement that Redd has arrived, while other times, you'll notice his Treasure Trawler and know he's there.

Flick randomly visits islands. He could arrive any day of the year, but he will always leave the next day by 5 a.m. When Flick visits your island, be sure to sell all the bugs you can to him to make as much money as possible.

To  get iron in Animal Crossing , your best bet is to use a shovel or axe to strike rocks you find on your island and hope an iron nugget appears as a resource.

To get a ladder in Animal Crossing , you'll have to progress through Tom Nook's tasks, such as paying off your tent, building your home, building Nook's Cranny, and building a bridge. After accomplishing these tasks, Nook will give you a ladder recipe.

A selection screen of four different island layouts appear, each with different rivers and cliffs

Choosing your your island’s layout is the first step you have to complete in Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Switch. Timmy and Tommy Nook will present you with four options, but if you don’t like them, you can close out your game, reload it, and try again to find something you like better.

Because the game does have a terraforming tool, choosing your island doesn’t matter much in the long run — but you won’t be able to change your island for several days. This means you should pick something you’re happy with at the beginning.

In this New Horizons guide, we’ll show what to consider when selecting your island.

How to choose a good island

When picking your island out, pay attention to where the rivers and cliffs are. Unlike previous Animal Crossing games, New Horizons has higher cliffs. You’ll be able to access all of these high areas once you get a Vaulting Pole and a Ladder , but you’ll eventually build bridges and ramps to climb cliffs and cross rivers. Adding tons of bridges and ramps can be expensive, though, so keep that in mind.

You cannot move where your Resident Services building is, so make sure you like the placement of it on your island. It will always get placed in a relatively centered spot, so just keep in mind how much space is around it. If you want it to eventually be in the center of your shops or villager homes, it’ll need enough space around it to put other buildings.

Some fish, like carp and tadpole, can only be caught in ponds . Make sure your island has a small body of water (that isn’t a river) so you don’t have to miss out on these fish.

Your airport can also be different colors, and based on our experience, it doesn’t seem that you can change the color. You can get red, green, yellow, and blue airports, but if you’re picky about your island’s colors, reset to get the airport color you want.

Best Animal Crossing: New Horizons island ideas

Looking for inspiration? Here are some of the most inventive Animal Crossing island ideas

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 2.0 brings with it more than 9000 new items which means the Animal Crossing: New Horizons community is in full swing creating next level islands. The combination of new items and customization options means that there’s no shortage of incredible creations. This is perfect if you’re looking for Animal Crossing: New Horizons island inspiration. Those on the hunt for Animal Crossing: New Horizons ideas are now faced with a smorgasbord of fresh islands to lust after as Animal Crossing’s finest creators realise the possibilities on offer.

And, while the update brought many much-needed quality of life upgrades, there have been a couple of updates since the game’s release which will make a big difference if you haven’t checked in in a while. An additional 100 design slots were added back in March 2021 which means 50 regular design slots and 50 pro design slots. Ideal if you spent a long time lusting after multi-slot paths last year but couldn’t spare the space. And don't forget you can access codes directly from your NookPhone too.

So, whether you’re looking for pier customisation options or just see the new castle items in action, here are some of the most inventive Animal Crossing: New Horizons island ideas.

1. Get inventive with Kapp’n’s pier

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas

Now that we’re heading to Kapp’n’s Pier every day to go on exciting island tours, that one fishing decoration you put there a year ago just isn’t going to cut it. It’s time to take some inspiration from @MistyCoveIsle on Twitter who has come up with all kinds of different ways to decorate the space with a selection of design codes. Whether you decorate it with a fringed rug or even a lounger or two, the pier will quickly become your island’s most stylish locale. You don’t want Kapp’n to sing about your bad design choices, do you?

2. ‘Abandonedcore’ is the new cottagecore

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas - 'Abandonedcore’

Remember when we couldn’t move last year for petals and log furniture as everyone transformed their islands into cottagecore paradises? Well, it’s time for something a little more apocalyptic. @Seaburd on Twitter has coined her dilapidated creations ‘Abandonedcore’ and we’re getting a distinct The Last of Us feel from her shots. The official addition of vehicles means that there’s now longer a need to build them from perspective cheats and broken dreams. Expect many more industrial island creations but the idea of nature reclaiming the world here is a lovely touch.

3. Keep an eye out for vines

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas using vines

The release of crafting recipes all themed around vines and glowing moss means that things have taken a distinct turn for the Indiana Jones in Animal Crossing. Ruins and vines are everywhere in Bertown by @BertCrossing on Twitter. The path here is by @kuroneko_5810 and is a perfect combination with the ancient items and twisted overgrown fairytale trees. If you’re looking for the recipes and crafting resources for these, remember to get on Kapp’n’s boat every day and keep hunting for DIYs.

4. Start customising lamp posts

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas using customizable lamp posts

It’s the little details in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that make it so difficult to put down - well, that and those aforementioned 9000 items. The addition of customisable lamp post signs means that people like @Daileyart on Twitter can create these perfect miniature designs that make your island even more unique. Whether you want a Skyrim-style fantasy island packed with dragon iconography or just something to make your streetlights look a bit fancier, these custom creations are a subtle addition to make things feel truly yours.

5. Construct your dream castle

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas to construct your dream castle

Castles in Animal Crossing: New Horizons used to require hours perfectly positioning simple panels and then finding the ultimate camera angle to create the illusion. Well the good news is that now, while you’ll still play for hours, there are all manner of castle items to craft your ultimate keep. @Thorin_ACH has gone hard on the Game of Thrones imagery with his perfect fort, complete with sentries, cauldrons, and turrets. And, not to be outdone on the creative front, can you see two of Gulliver’s Italian offerings in the picture above?

6. Go to Wonderland

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas themed around Alice in Wonderland

Why not theme your entire island to your favourite children’s literature? That’s exactly what @MarieTattersall on Twitter has done with her astonishing Wonderland creation. Making the most of many mushroom items, this incredible island is packed with iconic imagery from Lewis Carroll’s creation. You can see a full tour of Wonderland on Animal Crossing Island Tours With Mimi . Every section of the island is perfectly themed, complete with the caterpillar, a ‘beheading’ zone and just the right number of roses to keep the Red Queen happy.

7. Shrek-tacular scenes

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas where players are recreating Shrek

Animal Crossing islands are like onions and ogres. They have layers. This perfect recreation of Shrek’s swamp by @Anna_ACNHS on Twitter is terrifyingly good. Not only is Shrek on point but Fiona looks spot on and this is another inventive way to use the vine and fantasy elements, as well as a great use of the new house renovations. Oh, and let’s take a minute just to admire how perfect that ‘Beware Ogre’ sign is. All we need now is a cat and a horse villager to have a full Dreamworks sequel on the go.

8. Make a splash

Making a pool

The best thing about this peaceful outdoor pool design from madoodlem on Reddit isn’t the three available colours to match your mini pool, or even the inventive lighting system, it’s that it only takes three of your custom design slots. But this is just the beginning. With countless other incredibly intricate tile designs available, your pool can quickly become a work of art. You could even search for ‘puddles’ at the Able Sisters to add even more H2O. Just be prepared for images of a very small pink frog to appear too.

9.  Take the museum outside

fun islands to visit animal crossing

If you like wandering into the museum just to sit and watch the butterflies flutter, you’re not alone. And, more importantly, you don’t always have to head to Blathers’ domain to enjoy them. Catch three of the same of your favourite bugs, hand them over to Flick for model making, and you can create your very own butterfly garden like twerk_on_that_shark on Reddit. It’s probably a good thing that Blathers never leaves the museum. Wretched things…

10. Release your inner pirate

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Raise the mainsail, cross your ayes, and practice your best me hearties with a full on pirate ship to make the most of Gullivarr’s booty. @Cosmos_ray on Twitter has taken it, quite literally, to the next level with a fully terraformed multi-level galleon complete with moat, Wood Burning Stove mast and Market Sign sails. Don’t worry, there’s no need to make any villagers walk the plank if you don’t have space. The beach makes a perfect location for a docked or even grounded ship.

11. Build glass bridges

fun islands to visit animal crossing

There are now 10 bridges available but dependent on your designs, that might still not feel like quite enough. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to get inventive and create your own island crossings with terraforming. Tile over the top with a design like ghosthost999 ’s glass bridge on Reddit and you might find that Nook’s own variety are now lacking a distinct sense of risk with every step.

12. Create themed restaurants

fun islands to visit animal crossing

For the days you just can't get to Disney land, consider your Animal Crossing island an essential part of your CV for a career in Imagineering. You could build a regular restaurant with all of that colourful furniture, but throw in some of Celeste’s crafting recipes and the Diner collection and you’ll have a culinary experience akin to Disney’s Sci-Fi Dine in Theater in no time. Think of your favourite restaurants and start getting inventive. Just don’t let Zucker near any sushi, eh?

13. Get farming

fun islands to visit animal crossing

This is for those of us who switched up a Stardew addiction for an Animal Crossing one. Is there truly a way to feel at home in a game without any cows or sheep to tend to? No, Rodeo and Wendy don’t count. This barn and livestock combo comes courtesy of Mctieknots on Reddit and it’s a perfect springboard to a future agricultural paradise. Tilled fields of turnips, Simple Panel greenhouses and orchards all make for perfect Animal Crossing island ideas.

14. Don’t forget the chickens

fun islands to visit animal crossing

A little further down the pecking order, so to speak, is this perfect chicken coop. Made up of two stalls, some Simple Panels and some eggcellent hat designs from @daileyart on Twitter, this hen packed-delight is another innovative creation with AC’s existing recipes. For more Animal Crossing inspirations and ideas, make sure to follow Andrea on Instagram too for more brilliant pieces. French doors on a Simple Panel, anyone?

15. Scaring is caring

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Don’t panic, there’s nothing wrong with you if you want to add a little, well, unspeakable terror to your Animal Crossing island. How can we know what true happiness is if we don’t experience the darker side of life? Whether you’re placing in-game skeletons and anatomical models in murder basements, or painting the ground with the above instant coulrophobia from @cybearizons on Instagram, there are plenty of ways to increase your islands spookometer. Don’t forget to add KK Dirge to nearby speakers to add even more atmosphere.

16. Build a bar

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Brewster has arrived but if you and your friends are looking for something a little stronger than coffee, you might want to create your own drinks establishment. This classy bar design from @morimorisenyou on Twitter works both inside and outside and comes complete with a satisfying keg Simple Panel design. Use this as a diving off point and recreate your favourite cocktail bar. Tangy would probably love a cannibalistic Screwdriver or two.

17. Give villagers themed gardens

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Who cares if they have no intention of even looking at your creations, let alone acknowledging them, your villagers deserve perfectly themed garden areas. This perfect barber zone from @ wd_mori on Twitter in honour of Gaston’s impressive facial fuzz is only the beginning of the glorious potential. Why not build a tea house for Tia? An orange grove for Tangy? And Lucky would just love a graveyard… Well, there’s another hundred hours gone.

18. Embrace the path

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Gaze back in time to the Animal Crossings of yore and you might remember that the only way to make paths previously was to constantly run along the same patches of ground. Thankfully we aren’t still purposefully making holes in the grass but what the AC community now only refers to as The Path from @Denim2_mori brings the same natural feel as those well-trodden grooves. And there are now dozens of new variations. Whether you want spilled sprinkles in multiple colours or black cobblestones , there’s a perfect design for your island out there.

19. Have a picnic

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Yes, your villagers will probably still sit adamantly right next to your perfectly placed cushions but that’s no reason not to try. Creating a picnic area on the beach or hidden snugly in an orchard is a simple addition that only requires a few design slots. This creation from moonbunnyart on Reddit comes complete with blanket tassels and makes the most of a stack of Sable’s patterns for the custom cushions. Teddy bears are of course optional. Just don’t tell Stitches.

20. Build an outdoor library

fun islands to visit animal crossing

If the one thing keeping you from building a library outside is the idea of the books getting wet, you’re not alone. We like to imagine that they’re all waterproof which is the only way that we could build anything like @haru_eiffel ’s beautiful natural library. Check out the rest of their Instagram if you’re looking for more non-book flavoured Animal Crossing ideas. Be warned though, it’s one of those ‘are we even playing the same game?’ accounts.

21. Construct a market

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Even though DIY recipes can now go in your storage, you want to make sure you actually do as the game wants and find a way to properly share them.  Where better then than an actual marketplace. You don’t really need to build an entire cityscape for the background like @okinawa.island on Instagram but a market packed with stalls will be a welcome addition to your island. It’s also perfect for leaving other specific items to share with friends.

22. Add city feels

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Visit an Animal Crossing newbie’s home and the first thing that will hit you is just how green it all is. We did all start out on an abandoned island, y’know. A fun mission then is to design like you never want to see green again. Islands like those of @miss_acnh on Instagram make the most of stone and metal to bring a big city atmosphere to proceedings. Just remember that if you don’t like the colours of your Nook Miles items you can take them to be customised on Harv's Island so that everything fits in.

23. Keep clean with a laundry

fun islands to visit animal crossing

Until this moment, we’d never really thought about where villagers without washing machines cleaned their clothes. It turns out that all those Jocks joking about sweat stains on your recipes probably weren’t kidding. Step in @imotarez on Twitter then with some fresh-smelling inspiration. This laundrette once again makes the most of Simple Panels as both dividers and machine facades and thankfully has plenty of reading material.

Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Visit a Friend's Island

One of the most exciting parts about Animal Crossing: New Horizons is having the ability to connect with friends online and visiting other islands.

It may have been quite some time now since Animal Crossing: New Horizons first launched for the Nintendo Switch, but there are still plenty of new players that are just getting their feet wet with the long-running life-sim series from Nintendo. One of the most notable features from the latest entry allows players to visit their friend's islands via the in-game airport.

In order to visit another island in the game, players will need to be connected online first and foremost. Going to other islands that are owned by other players will be impossible without a stable connection. Once that's done, Animal Crossing: New Horizons island goers will have to make sure that they have a Dodo Code from their friend.

To get this Dodo Code, players will need to speak to Orville at the local airport and tell him that they want visitors. Once this is done, a Dodo Code will be given out and will need to be sent to the friend who is trying to fly out of their island.

RELATED:  Animal Crossing: New Horizons Adds More New Years Items

By simply speaking to Orville and telling him "I wanna fly," the player will then be prompted to choose an island that's accepting visitors, and then the Dodo Code will have to be input. Once that is all set up, players will soon be on their way to their friend's digital Animal Crossing island. Keep in mind that the online connectivity in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a bit strict in what players can and cannot do.

For example, if one person is coming to visit another player's island, the owner of that island cannot be in a menu or in a conversation with a villager or NPC . And the island owner is also not allowed to move around any furniture, whether it is indoors or outdoors. Still, even with the limited functionality, players can have a fun time running around each other's island, hanging out on a beach, or just get inspired by all of the decorative items scattered about.

How Many Players Can Visit At Once?

Animal Crossing: New Horizons supports up to four players on one system locally and up to eight players online . This means that if someone already has eight friends on their island, other players will not be able to enter until somebody leaves the island.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently available as a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons — The best activities to do with friends

Animal Crossing New Horizons two players using players using Reactions

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a great online multiplayer. Multiplayer opens the door for friends to have an awesome time in-game together. However, there are some activities that we think rise above others. Here's our list of the best things you can do with your friends in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The joyful game the world needs

Upon coming to a deserted island, you'll be able to harvest materials, collect bugs, go fishing, build your dream house, and make friends with animal villagers. This is an adorable life simulator that you can get lost in.

Trade valuable items

Animal Crossing Best Friends Hero

One of the simplest things you can do with friends in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is also one of the most lucrative and useful — trading. Your friend may have a piece of furniture you would love, and you might have a piece of fruit that they've been looking to plant on their island. By trading these items, you and your friend both benefit. This is just one example of the many different types of trades you can do. Plus, all you have to do to trade is put your items on the ground so the other player can pick them up. You can also offer Bells as well by selecting your wallet and putting the amount you want to offer in a bag.

If you're still in the early game, trading with a friend who's farther along than they can really help by offering important building materials like stone, iron nuggets, and wood. Check with your pal to see if they would be willing to trade some of their extra resources for Bells, fruit, or other items, and you'll get a head start on your island's development!

Compare shop stocks and prices

Animal Crossing New Horizons Nooks Cranny Outside

If you and your friend don't have anything you want to trade, why not explore what your shops have? Both Nook's Cranny and the Able Sisters have daily rotating stocks, and even if shops on your island may not have anything you're interested in purchasing, your friend's shops might. Therefore, communicating with your friends and visiting each other to check out what's on shelves can be an awesome way to benefit mutually.

Related: The trick to Turnip sales in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Something else you should do is regularly check Turnips prices, as the prices vary for each player. If your friend's shop is buying Turnips for a significantly higher price than your own, you can make some serious money! Having two available islands to sell to also helps you reduce the chance of losing money on your investment.

Host a fishing or bug-catching tournament

Animal Crossing New Horizons Monthly Fish Bugs Hero

While Animal Crossing: New Horizons has its own built-in fishing and bug-catching tournaments that occur every so often, you and your friends can host your own tournaments whenever you want. Simply have everyone head towards one person's island, set a timer, and see who outperforms the competition.

Master your iPhone in minutes

iMore offers spot-on advice and guidance from our team of experts, with decades of Apple device experience to lean on. Learn more with iMore!

The best part about these player-made tournaments is that the rules can be changed to encourage different experiences. For example, one version of competition could be designed to encourage people to catch a ton of bugs or fish, while another could be focused around the quality and rarity of each catch. Players could even implement "street rules" by allowing people to sabotage each other by scaring away the critters they're looking to snag.

Ultimately, the sky is the limit here. And since catching and selling bugs and fish is one of the best ways to make money in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, everyone will walk away with a nice fat wallet once the tournament ends.

Play minigames

Musical Chairs 1/6 #AnimalCrossing #ACNH #NintendoSwitch pic.twitter.com/BdzDesK0Ss Musical Chairs 1/6 #AnimalCrossing #ACNH #NintendoSwitch pic.twitter.com/BdzDesK0Ss — Tuuli Liikki (@tuuliikki) April 1, 2020 April 1, 2020

If you're looking to switch things up from standard activities like fishing and bug-catching, you can always create your own minigames using furniture pieces, tools, and some imagination. Musical Chairs is, by far, the most fun. You can recreate the game in Animal Crossing: New Horizons using stools and a handheld instrument. Other ideas include using a shovel to create buried treasure hunts, whacking each other with a net to play tag, and terraforming part of your island to create an obstacle course.

The large size of New Horizons islands means that even playing hide and seek is an excellent choice, as the numerous houses, buildings, trees, and cliffs all give players plenty of hiding spot options. Again, the only limit to the possibilities is your imagination.

Give island and house tours

Animal Crossing New Horizons Multiplayer Local

Designing an aesthetically-pleasing village is tougher than you might think, and the same goes for decorating homes. However, one of the best ways to get some inspiration is to take a tour of your friends' islands. Seeing how other people express their creativity is an excellent way to get over designer's block, and there's a good chance your friends will get inspired by your island and house designs, too.

Throw a surprise birthday party

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Your animal villagers will throw birthday parties for each other and you, and you can do the same for your friends! First, send a letter to all of the people you want to invite to the party besides the person whose birthday it is a few days in advance. You can do this by buying postcards from the Dodo Airlines airport. Pick out a nice gift and wrap it using the gift wrap you can get from Nook's Cranny. Then, on the big day, open your island's gates and have everyone hide somewhere with party poppers from Nook's Cranny.

Next, contact the special someone and ask them to come to your village for a bit because you want to show them something cool. Once they arrive, lead them to where everyone is hiding and have the whole gang jump out and blast off their party poppers. If you were careful and kept the party a secret, they will likely be shocked! Then everyone can give them their birthday present, and everyone can have a good time goofing off in celebration.
