go travel 2.0

Reviewed by Colin Hewitt

Not too many of us have managed to travel very far over the last couple of years. But, hopefully, there’s a little light at the end of the tunnel. Fingers crossed, very shortly, we’ll soon be boarding planes, trains, and coaches once again, without giving it too much thought.

During long haul flights, when I’ve fallen asleep due to snoozing at an awkward angle, I’ve suffered from a few stiff neck problems when I’ve awoken. In addition, I’ve recently managed to wake up with painful neck cramps after a good night’s sleep at home (the perils of ageing). Therefore, being asked to test a premium neck support pillow was much appreciated.

go travel 2.0

In the past, I’ve tried a few neck support cushions. Inflatable ones, foam ones, I’ve even constructed my own with a wrapped up hand towel. However, the Go Travel Ultimate 2.0 neck support is in a league of its own.

It’s designed to help you sleep in an upright position. It has a substantial solid frame structure. When I removed it from the packaging, I wasn’t convinced it would be an enjoyable experience to wear. However, within the gun-metal grey velvet-like covering, the memory foam makes it extremely comfortable. When wrapped around your neck, it’s like being given a firm but gentle hug. It has a tension strap that can be fixed under your chin if you require even further support. This pulls the item quite tightly all-around your neck, giving you support at the front as well as the back, an ideal technique to avoid those jolts when your head falls forward when dropping off to sleep.

According to Go Travel’s excellent website, the pillow’s rear grip/carrying handle “helps secure the pillow to any headrest”. Unfortunately, I couldn’t quite see how that worked. However, if the user requires that level of support, I’m sure Go travel could provide some further information.

The website is also worth browsing to see many other travel product ideas.

I haven’t been able to test this pillow on a flight yet, but I have used it while sitting upright on the sofa watching a dull film on television. I can happily report that much to the annoyance of my partner, I managed to sleep without any problems whatsoever. We have a couple of long coach trips planned for next year. So I can already appreciate that this pillow will be a handy addition to our luggage.

The item weighs a lightweight 446g, which is quite essential if you’re going to use this on an aircraft. A very useful matching drawstring carry-pouch is provided. Unlike some inferior products, the cover can be removed, allowing the pillow to be hand-washed at 30 degrees C.

This product would make an ideal Christmas gift, not only for those relatives and friends who travel regularly but for anyone who occasionally needs some neck support at home.

There are many cheaper neck pillows available. Go Travel even sells some of them on their website; however, I doubt any would perform like the Ultimate 2.0.

The Go Blog

Next steps toward go 2.

Robert Griesemer, for the Go team 26 June 2019

We’re well on the way towards the release of Go 1.13, hopefully in early August of this year. This is the first release that will include concrete changes to the language (rather than just minor adjustments to the spec), after a longer moratorium on any such changes.

To arrive at these language changes, we started out with a small set of viable proposals, selected from the much larger list of Go 2 proposals , per the new proposal evaluation process outlined in the “ Go 2, here we come! ” blog post. We wanted our initial selection of proposals to be relatively minor and mostly uncontroversial, to have a reasonably high chance of having them make it through the process. The proposed changes had to be backward-compatible to be minimally disruptive since modules , which eventually will allow module-specific language version selection, are not the default build mode quite yet. In short, this initial round of changes was more about getting the ball rolling again and gaining experience with the new process, rather than tackling big issues.

Our original list of proposals – general Unicode identifiers , binary integer literals , separators for number literals , signed integer shift counts – got both trimmed and expanded. The general Unicode identifiers didn’t make the cut as we didn’t have a concrete design document in place in time. The proposal for binary integer literals was expanded significantly and led to a comprehensive overhaul and modernization of Go’s number literal syntax . And we added the Go 2 draft design proposal on error inspection , which has been partially accepted .

With these initial changes in place for Go 1.13, it’s now time to look forward to Go 1.14 and determine what we want to tackle next.

Proposals for Go 1.14

The goals we have for Go today are the same as in 2007: to make software development scale . The three biggest hurdles on this path to improved scalability for Go are package and version management, better error handling support, and generics.

With Go module support getting increasingly stronger, support for package and version management is being addressed. This leaves better error handling support and generics. We have been working on both of these and presented draft designs at last year’s GopherCon in Denver. Since then we have been iterating those designs. For error handling, we have published a concrete, significantly revised and simplified proposal (see below). For generics, we are making progress, with a talk (“Generics in Go” by Ian Lance Taylor) coming up at this year’s GopherCon in San Diego, but we have not reached the concrete proposal stage yet.

We also want to continue with smaller improvements to the language. For Go 1.14, we have selected the following proposals:

#32437 . A built-in Go error check function, “try” ( design doc ).

This is our concrete proposal for improved error handling. While the proposed, fully backwards-compatible language extension is minimal, we expect an outsize impact on error handling code. This proposal has already attracted an enormous amount of comments, and it’s not easy to follow up. We recommend starting with the initial comment for a quick outline and then to read the detailed design doc. The initial comment contains a couple of links leading to summaries of the feedback so far. Please follow the feedback recommendations (see the “Next steps” section below) before posting.

#6977 . Allow embedding overlapping interfaces ( design doc ).

This is an old, backwards-compatible proposal for making interface embedding more tolerant.

#32479 Diagnose string(int) conversion in go vet .

The string(int) conversion was introduced early in Go for convenience, but it is confusing to newcomers ( string(10) is "\n" not "10" ) and not justified anymore now that the conversion is available in the unicode/utf8 package. Since removing this conversion is not a backwards-compatible change, we propose to start with a vet error instead.

#32466 Adopt crypto principles ( design doc ).

This is a request for feedback on a set of design principles for cryptographic libraries that we would like to adopt. See also the related proposal to remove SSLv3 support from crypto/tls .

We are actively soliciting feedback on all these proposals. We are especially interested in fact-based evidence illustrating why a proposal might not work well in practice, or problematic aspects we might have missed in the design. Convincing examples in support of a proposal are also very helpful. On the other hand, comments containing only personal opinions are less actionable: we can acknowledge them but we can’t address them in any constructive way. Before posting, please take the time to read the detailed design docs and prior feedback or feedback summaries. Especially in long discussions, your concern may have already been raised and discussed in earlier comments.

Unless there are strong reasons to not even proceed into the experimental phase with a given proposal, we are planning to have all these implemented at the start of the Go 1.14 cycle (beginning of August, 2019) so that they can be evaluated in practice. Per the proposal evaluation process , the final decision will be made at the end of the development cycle (beginning of November, 2019).

Thank you for helping make Go a better language!

The new travel series is receiving mostly positive reviews. “ Conan O’Brien Must Go  is a smartly dumb show — or a stupidly smart show — focused (loosely) on what is essential about travel,” Hollywood Reporter chief TV critic Daniel Fienberg writes in his review . “It’s a series about arriving in a new place open to meeting new people, learning new languages, tasting new foods and experiencing uncomfortable new circumstances … and then making fun of them, when all the while you’re mostly mocking yourself and the fears people have about stepping outside of their comfort zones.”

‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’ Is a Keeper: TV Review

Legendary talk show host and hot wing evangelist returns to television with hilarious new Max travel show

Conan O'Brien tries Thai boxing with predictable results.

The key to understanding Conan O’Brien’s comedy is knowing that it comes from a point of kindness. Yes, I know in this age of comics punching down , this kind of compliment may leave you with a neon “Must Avoid!” sign flashing in your bleary eyes — but stay with me.

Popular on Variety

Conan’s three-decade run as a talk show host ended in 2021 under less-than-optimal circumstances , as he wound down his TBS show during the pandemic year. He talked to longtime sidekick Andy Richter , who sat among dozens of cardboard cutout fans. O’Brien quipped that they were last in line for the vaccine because the CDC had looked at the shows and “they said ours is the least essential of pretty much all the non-essential shows.”

There was some truth in that, but Conan had already started his move to other outlets , starting with his “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast in 2018.

The podcast is funny and sweet, especially the pre-interview segments with longtime associate Sona Movsesian and producer Matt Gourley. Conan mocks Sona’s legendarily bad work habits. and Gourley’s flea market predilections, but any kind of comedic acid is reserved for the self-lacerating O’Brien. (On a recent episode, Conan runs down his own looks, and it is cruel and hilarious, but part of me is thinking, “Dude, cut yourself a break.”). The only time things get contentious is when Conan visited by longtime friend Kevin Nealon — perhaps the podcast’s best episodes.

The podcast had an offshoot called “Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan,” on which O’Brien would talk to a fan, often in a faraway land. That led to O’Brien traveling to Norway, Thailand, Ireland and Argentina to meet them. Why? Well, a dour and ominous narrator, aka Werner Herzog, offered this rationale at the beginning of each episode: “Once a proud talk show host, he’s been driven by a changing ecosystem to a drier and harsher climate: the weekly podcast. Here , without the nourishment of his studio audience, this clown with dull , tiny eyes, the eye of a crudely painted doll , is forced to feed on that meagerest of morsels: the random call-in fan. Unhinged by the feral scent of their mild enthusiasm. He scavenges in distant lands uninvited, fueled by a bottomless hunger for recognition , and the occasional selfie.”

It’s a self-deprecating bit, but it’s also the truth. Conan has been doing travel shows for years, most notably one to Movsesian’s native Armenia , as well as a chaotic trip to Finland where O’Brien is treated as a god because of his physical resemblance to the Finnish president who happens to be a woman. He clearly loves the journey. And he loves the comedy set piece–see his classic “Old Timey Baseball” opus — which has always been an essential part of his appeal.

The encounters work because O’Brien doesn’t treat his new friends as fools — rather , he revels in the fact that he is the fool. (See his instant-classic appearance on “Hot Ones,” the show where interviews are conducted while the celebrity consumes increasingly acidic chicken wings. Conan rhapsodizes on comedy being all around us as green-yellow mucus drips down his nose.) Of course, there are exceptions made for old friends. Conan goes out for asada in Buenos Aires with the effete and erudite Jordan Schlansky, a longtime producer and frenemy. Schlansky and Conan are the Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon of American cable , and on his TBS show and podcast the two have tangled over Japanese customs, Conan hosting Schlansky’s bachelor party in his own office, and Schlansky hiding an expensive Espresso machine in an inaccessible part of their offices. (As with the Courtney Thorne-Smith segment, Conan’s visceral malice toward Schlansky works because it is so out-of-character).

During the Argentina episode, they get into a fierce argument about the proper pronunciation of the word “tango,” Conan then licks Schlansky’s favorite cut of meat — wait, that came out wrong. After, they go on an ill-fated trip to the Pampas, where both fail spectacularly at gaucho life.

Not everything works. O’Brien does a self-referential bit about the expensive drone he is using on the first show , and for the next four episodes I am distracted every time I see a beautiful shot thinking about the drone’s specifications and capabilities. Some of the stuff goes on a bit long, but so does my writing.

These are minor quibbles. If you’re a Conan fan, you’ll treasure the trips, just like his completists treasure encounters with a masturbating bear. The series ends with Conan tracing his family’s roots in Ireland. He comes across his ancestor’s land, makes a few jokes, but then looks at the land, clearly moved. Conan O’Brien has played the fool long enough; we grant him this moment of humanity with all our hearts.

All four episodes of “Conan O’Brien Must Go” are now available on Max.

Pete Prisco 2024 NFL Mock Draft 2.0: Four QBs picked in top 5, plus expect lots of OL, WR throughout Round 1

Prisco also has the vikings making a big move up.

malik-nabers.jpg

For Mock 1.0, I had four quarterbacks going off the board with the top-four picks. This time, it's four out of five -- so there is some change, but the desire to draft a quarterback for the needy is so strong that it always wins out.

The top pick will be USC quarterback Caleb Williams to the Chicago Bears , followed by LSU's Jayden Daniels to the Washington Commanders and then Michigan's J.J. McCarthy to the New England Patriots .

The next pick is where I make a change from my last mock. I had the Arizona Cardinals trading out with Minnesota, but this time I have them staying put and taking Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

The Vikings then make a move with the Los Angeles Chargers to go up and get North Carolina's Drake Maye, who is said to be the apple of their organizational eyes. The Chargers would get the 11th pick, the 23rd pick, a fourth-rounder this year (129) and a third-rounder next year. If that sounds like too much, it won't be if Maye is their franchise quarterback.

As for the Chargers, Jim Harbaugh is taking a team with a good quarterback in Justin Herbert , but one with issues at other spots. This way he can improve the roster around Herbert. In this one, they would get Toledo corner Quinyon Mitchell with the 11th pick and LSU receiver Brian Thomas Jr. with the 23rd pick. That would be two outstanding players at positions of need.

It makes too much sense.

I have two more mocks coming. One is who-they-should mock in a couple of weeks and then my final mock on draft day.

Two things you count on for both: Four or five quarterbacks in the first round and plenty of tackles and receivers.

For more draft coverage, you can hear in-depth analysis twice a week on  "With the First Pick"  -- our year-round  NFL Draft  podcast with  NFL Draft  analyst Ryan Wilson and former  Vikings  general manager Rick Spielman. You can find "With the First Pick" wherever you get your podcasts:  Apple Podcasts ,  Spotify ,  YouTube , etc. Listen below!

The 2024  NFL Draft  will take place from April 25-27 in Detroit. More draft coverage can be found at CBSSports.com, including the weekly  updated draft order  and a regularly available  look at the eligible prospects .
