Hungary is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Due to the proper game management and conservation efforts, it proudly offers prime quality trophy hunting. Many top class trophies are collected here annually. Besides that, the hunting traditions and rituals cherished since the olden times will become an important part of your experience. Hungary is also a great choice for the weekend hunts.

You will need to arrive at the international airport of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Many international airlines fly there regularly, including Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, MALEV, British Airways, Iberia etc. After finishing the necessary custom formalities you will be transferred to the hunting area. The length of stay depends on the trophy desired and on the hunt type preferred.

Roe deer: hunt by spot and stalk or from a high seat. Red deer: hunt by spot and stalk, especially during the rut, or hunt from a high seat. Fallow deer: hunt by spot and stalk. Mouflon: classical mountain hunting. Wild boar: hunt from a high seat, by spot and stalk at full moon or a marvelous driven hunt.

The accommodation will be chosen according to your request. Many different hotels and lodges are available from simple small family owned houses to luxury ones.

Best hunting grounds are used all over the country including both private and state hunting territories. The region of the hunt depends on the trophies desired.

At all hunting estates, guests are treated to gourmet European and international cuisine and fine wines.  We offer a number of luxurious hunting castles, boutique hunting estates and cabin outposts throughout Hungary.  Each place is special and unique with easy access to the best hunting in Hungary.  Some of the lodging options are best suited for corporate entertaining and large hunting parties while others are better for romantic couples’ trips and smaller hunting parties.

A few examples of some of the luxury lodging include:

Eagle Castle is a 5-Star castle in northern Hungary.  Since its construction in 1827, Eagle Castle has been used as the home base for some of the country’s most revered driven pheasant shoots and big game hunts.  Eagle Castle is beautifully suited for large hunting parties, corporate entertaining and combining hunting with special events.

Manor House Villa Laszlo is a one-of-a-kind hunting castle just 40 kilometers southwest of Budapest.  With 5-Star amenities, beautiful views and amazing trophy hall, Villa Laszlo is the preferred hunting castle of many discerning international sportsmen.

Pronay Castle is nestled in the small village of Alsópetény, approximately 60 kilometers north of Budapest.  Despite maintaining its distinct 18th Century character, modern comforts and luxurious amenities abound in this 5-Star boutique hunting castle.

Big Game Hunting:

Driven Boar Hunting: End of October until end of January This outfitters driven boar hunting has become one of the most popular hunting programs in Hungary.

Red Stag:  August to December (Rut: Mid-September to Mid-October) The Red Stag hunting in Hungary is considered to be among the best in all of Europe. These red deer are native to Hungary and can be found in good numbers throughout much the country’s woodlands. The rut generally runs from mid-September to mid-October, during which time the deer are extremely active.

European Muflon:  September to February The European Muflon is a wild sheep considered to be part of the “goat antelope” family known as Caprinae. The Muflon hunting in Hungary can be both challenging and rewarding.

Roe Deer: Mid April – Mid October European Roe Deer hunting has a long history in Hungary.  Taken for meat and as unique trophies, the Roe Deer has a special place in the hearts of European and international hunters.

Fallow: October to January The European Fallow Deer’s rutting season is a little later than that of the Red Stag, usually occurring in November. Classic walk-and-stalk hunting is most common, although sometimes the deer are hunted from tree blinds.

Budapest hotels can range wildly in quality and convenience.  We normally house our hunters in either the Gresham Palace Four Seasons on the banks of the Danube on the Pest side or the Conrad Hilton in the Buda Castle District.  However, we can coordinate your hotel stays based on your group dynamics and specific interests.

Budapest is famous for its great regional and international cuisine.  From open markets to casual bar fare to fine dining, Budapest has it all.  Many  hunting programs begin with a “welcome lunch” at one of Budapest’s many gourmet restaurants.

Sometimes, exploring a country’s small towns, villages and nature preserves is the best way to get in touch with the pulse of the place…Hungary is no different.  There are intriguing destinations both near and far from Budapest that can dramatically add to your overall experience in Hungary.

One of the great things about hunting in Hungary is that it is easy to reach many of Europe’s top tourism destinations in the same trip.  Budapest is one of the continent’s most revered capital cities, but it is also just a short drive to Vienna, Bratislava, Prague and other great cities.

Since each itinerary is customized for your interests, the travel details are not fixed.  However, most people fly into Vienna or Budapest where you will be greeted by your private guide and well cared for during your stay and then returned to the airport for your departure having made a lifelong friends in your guide and staff throughout.

Family Expeditions, LLC confirmation and refund policy:

If your trip is more than 90 days out from date of departure, a 50% non-refundable deposit confirms your reservation and must be received within 10 days of booking to confirm your dates. All trips must be paid in full at least 90 days prior to the departure date. If your trip date is within 90 days, FULL payment for the trip is required. All payments to Family Expeditions are non-refundable. Should you need to reschedule or cancel your trip, we will do everything in our power to assist you in finding a suitable substitute or transferring your dates per the lodge/providers/government requirements. Trip insurance protects your investment!

Czech Republic

Heavily influenced by the Habsburg Empire, the hunting culture in the Czech Republic took shape over hundreds of years.  Though there’s no shortage of big game opportunities in Czech – including mouflon, stag, boar and more – these days the country is perhaps best known for its incredible high-volume driven pheasant shooting.  The most exclusive hunting estates in the Czech Republic can be reached by an easy two-hour drive from either Prague or Vienna.

In 1993, Slovakia split from Soviet-era Czechoslovakia, becoming an independent nation.  Soon after, the country’s bountiful hunting areas became accessible to international sportsmen.  Although JAGD STIEDL had special permission to hunt in Slovakia during the Soviet rule, our Slovakian hunting outfit has expanded since Slovakia’s independence.  As it is with the Czech Republic, Slovakia is more often admired for its bird hunting than its big game hunting.

The Spanish ibex might be one of Europe’s most sought-after trophies, but the ibex represents only the beginning of what Spain offers hunters.  Rivaled only by neighboring Portugal, Spain has Europe’s healthiest population of red-legged partridge – one the most sporting and challenging birds to hunt in the world.  Additional game options include wild boar, roe deer, red stag, fallow deer, mouflon, the Cantabrian chamois and Pyrenean chamois.

Dobre Doshul

On and off through the years, Bulgaria has shown up atop the record books for native-game red stag.  The record-level red stag might be Bulgaria’s top draw for hunters, but the list of available game is quite extensive – including wild boar, mouflon, fallow deer, barbary sheep, ibex, thar, Balkan chamois and even capercaillie. Predators (fox, wolf, jackal and wildcat) are hunted throughout the year.

The Carpathian Mountains stretch through the heart of Transylvania.  These mountains are home to Europe’s densest population of giant brown bears.  The brown bear numbers have grown steadily over the last two decades, and for the last several years the Romanian government has exclusively issued JAGD STIEDL a limited number of bear permits for our hunters. NEWS – bear hunting in Romania has been temporarily suspended.

Overview of Hungary Big Game Hunting

Hungary big game hunting was not available to those without a royal title or court pedigree until the middle of the 20th century.  The only reason access was granted was due to the persistence and exceptional reputation of the man that founded this outstanding hunting company.  Throughout the years, they have secured unparalleled and uncompromising collection of hunting estates in Hungary and its bordering countries.

In Particular, Hungary has gained a devoted international following in the hunting community since its independence from the Soviet Union in 1989.   Stories of Hungary big game hunting for bountiful game – which includes trophy-level and record-level red stag, roe deer, wild boar, mouflon and fallow deer – have spread like wildfire throughout the global hunting community.  These days it is recommended booking big game hunting programs well in advance to ensure availability.  

Once you leave your first hunting experience with this very personal hunting company, you will long to return.  Since every bespoke itinerary is unique, no two trips will be alike.

Big Game Hunting:

Driven Boar Hunting: End of October until end of January This outfitters driven boar hunting has become one of the most popular hunting programs in Hungary.

Red Stag:  August to December (Rut: Mid-September to Mid-October) The Red Stag hunting in Hungary is considered to be among the best in all of Europe. These red deer are native to Hungary and can be found in good numbers throughout much the country’s woodlands. The rut generally runs from mid-September to mid-October, during which time the deer are extremely active.

European Muflon:  September to February The European Muflon is a wild sheep considered to be part of the “goat antelope” family known as Caprinae. The Muflon hunting in Hungary can be both challenging and rewarding.

Roe Deer: Mid April – Mid October European Roe Deer hunting has a long history in Hungary.  Taken for meat and as unique trophies, the Roe Deer has a special place in the hearts of European and international hunters.

Fallow: October to January The European Fallow Deer’s rutting season is a little later than that of the Red Stag, usually occurring in November. Classic walk-and-stalk hunting is most common, although sometimes the deer are hunted from tree blinds.

The density of roe deer here is corresponding to the habitat, trophy quality can be rated as good to excellent. In our areas you can even count on gold medal trophies every year.  Strong red deer reach antler weights of over 10 kg, the average weights are 7-9 kg. Every year around 30-50 deer are shot in these areas, best rutting in the surrounding hunting areas is usually from 8th to 15th September.

The most successful periods of roebuck hunting are in the spring months or in the leaf season. The rapidly growing vegetation in spring recommends a good roebuck hunt from April 16. The best roe deer can be expected at the end of July, but rather in the first week of August. The hunt is traditionally done from the hide, but exciting game drives are also quite successful. Especially in spring hunts, safe shots from a greater distance are required.

For three days, we embark on an exciting hunt for wild boar and red deer in game-rich areas during a well-organized driven hunt in Hungary. Our partner in Hungary has access to fantastic areas where game is abundant and they are dedicated to offering outstanding experiences.

It is important to mention that in Hungary, it is not allowed to shoot antlered deer during drive hunts. Instead, we focus on maximizing the shooting of trophy deer during the pyr hunts and the shooting of other types of game during the drive hunts.

Our hunting grounds in Hungary offer a high kill of red deer, fallow deer and wild boar. During a successful driven hunt in Hungary, it is possible to kill between 80 and 120 game within a group of 10-15 hunters. The number can vary depending on the area we hunt and how the shooting opportunities are managed.

Our drive hunts in Hungary are well planned and executed with care. We have access to nice passes with clearly cleared shooting lanes, and our drivers are skilled at driving the game towards the passes. Usually there are 3-4 shoots per day and between the shoots we serve coffee and lunch. At the end of the day, the game and all involved are honored with an impressive ceremony and game parade.

Travel and accommodation

We fly to Budapest in Hungary from Gothenburg, Stockholm or Copenhagen. Then a car ride of about 30 minutes up to 4 hours awaits, depending on the hunting area we are going to hunt.

We are welcomed by our guides on arrival. Then there is time for a pre-drink in the bar before a nice dinner.

Accommodation is in double rooms but single rooms can be arranged on request. The food is traditional Hungarian food where breakfast and dinner are served at the accommodation and lunch is served out on the hunting ground, often at a traditional hunting lodge .

After 3 hunting days we end our trip with a nice dinner.

A driven hunt in Hungary is an incredibly good hunt with a well-run organization, lots of game in the pass and nice accommodation with Hungarian food.

Here you have the chance to kill a lot of game on a classic European driven hunt. Please note, however, that no antlered deer may be killed during driven hunts in Hungary.

Hunting area : We are looking forward to welcome you in our 7000 hectares hunting ground in Hungary in the Zemplen mountains. We are offering you a huge number of great quality trophies, mostly red stag, roe buck, wild boar and moufflon.

Accomodation : A family-run, cosy hotel in the middle of the hunting ground is waiting for you, where you can spend some lovely relaxing days accompanied by your family or hunter friends.

As an outfitter , it is very important for us that besides the quality of the trophies you are escorted by great professionals, that’s why we are keen to choose and constantly train our PHs.

Only a short drive away from Kosice (SK) your hunting holiday will be calm and perfectly organized thanks to our experience we gained in over 20 years working as outfitter and hunting organizer.

We speak English, Spanish, German and Turkish, and of course, Hungarian, so we can fascilitate to communication between you and the local staff.

Hunting season:  The season starts on 15th April and the best period for hunting is between 15th April and 5th May. Later on we continue with the rutting season, from the end of July till the beginning of August. As this is a veryuncertain time period , we would recommend to plan with 5-8 roe bucks to hunt.

Type of hunting : stalking

Hunting area : The best time to hunt roebuck in Hungary is traditionally the second half of April or the beginning of May. We have created all our offers for group of friends to spend some wonderful days in our gorgeous country.  We are at your disposal to organize your hunting trip based on your requirements, whether you would prefer to hunt on your own, or with your family or friends. For hunters wanting to shoot large trophies, we recommend the region of Alfold (Hungarian Great Plain), for example in the region of Kiskunsag, in Szolnok and Szabolcs County, are also worth being considered. In these areas, roebuck with angtlers weighing 250-650 gramm can be shot. In the west of Hungary most roebuck are shot from raised hides, but in the east, due to the vast open plains, one has to hunt from vehicle and the shooting distances are often 150-300 m.

WILD BOAR  

Hunting season: Currently, we are unable to recommend wild boar hunting due to ASP.

Tusker- all year. The tusker can be hunted all year round in Hungar, therefore we often organize a combined roe deer- red deer or /and mouflon program.

Type of hunting : from high seat, stalking, drivenhunt

Hunting area: Wild boar is the most widespread game species in Hungary. Wild boars may be hunted throughout the year. The biggest wild boar population can be found in the hilly forests or in hilly countryside bordering cultivated areas. It is possible to hunt big boars in forestry areas, where there is a large population of wild boars.

Thank to our good relations developed during the 20 years we have been working in the hunt organizing industry, we have the privilege to choose from the best hunting grounds all over Hungary, depending on our guests’ requests as for quantity or quality of wild boars. Driven hunt: In a fenced area, the ideal is to have 3-8 hunters per group. This way you can hunt 50-100 wild boars a day.

Stalking: These programs last 1 or 1,5 hunting days.  The posts are almost always on high seats. We work with highly professional PHs. You can be part of an eventful hunt.

In case of you prefer to come with your family, we are delighted to help you to put together a complete program of 4-5 days in the countryside and 2-3 days in Budapest, with sightseeing.

Driven hunt: These programs are with 2-4 hunting days.

Hunting period : 1.Oct- the last day of February 

Type of hunting : stalking or from high seat, rifle hunting, bow hunting.

Hunting area : We organise exclusive  individual hunt on almost 100.000 hectares of open hunting ground in 4 region in Hungary. The hungarian fallow deer is very unique. 5 out of 10 World Record trophies are from Hungary. Also, the actual first and second prize is a hungarian deer. We hunt here extremely high quality fallow deers with special genome. The average size is between 150-170 CIC points, but the gold medal ones can exceed 180-185 CIC points. 

Program : During breeding, 2 hunting days are sufficient, but we always recommend 3 hunting days. 

Hunting period : 1. Sept- to 31 of January

Type of hunting : stalking with rifle or with bow

Hunting area : The stag is the “king” of the Hungarian forests.  To hunt during rut is an unforgettable experience for any hunter. Hungary is – and always has been – regarded as the classical country for red deer hunting. 

In Hungary, September is the rutting-time. It starts at the beginning of September in the south of Hungary and ends in the more hilly north at the end of September or the beginning of October. Red deer stags are either hunted by stalking or from a raised hide. For a successful hunt, guests should plan at least five hunting days.  Guests who do not wish to hunt during the rutting but want to hunt cull stags during the late autumn and winter months, should be aware that it is much more difficult to shoot at this time of the year, even in very good red deer hunting areas. The majority of the hunting areas are free zones.

Program : The red stag hunt can be combined with wild boar, fallow deer (October-November) or mouflon hunt.  In most cases you are hunting 4-5 days in 6000-10000 hectares and if you wish so, we can include mouflon and/or wild boar in your package.

In Hungary there are many big red deer trophies, therefore it is a beloved place for foreign hunters. Mostly you see and hunt medal ones, from 210 international points. 

Hunting period: 1. Oct- to the last day of February

Type of hunting: stalking with rifle

Hunting area: Hungary abounds in good hunting ground of mouflons. The best ones are lovated on the North of lake Balaton, next to the Slovakian border (Northern Hungary) and North- East Hungary, in the Zemplen mountain. We can guarantee you 80-90 cm long trophies. We are hunting in the mountings and the method is always a mixture of staling and from high seat. We hunt90+ cm mouflons in great quantity, not5 far from Budapest in a fenced area (1300 ha).

Program : If you hunt in fenced are, 1 or 2 hunting days are enough, but if you prefer to hunt in an open area, we would recommend you 3 hunting days.

Hungary is best known for its large red deer and wild boar populations. The long shot at the capital roebuck is also a popular hunting pleasure for interested hunters. Small game species, e.g. pheasants or ducks also live in the agricultural area. Mouflons are also native to Hungary and can be hunted.

Year-round hunting

I am György Galla, the manager of EUROHUNTING Hunting Agency Ltd. I have more than 30 years of hunting experience. I almost hunted all across Hungary and I made many hunting friendships during the years. Besides others we decided to use these relationships to establish our own hunting organizing office. I acuired my game management diploma in Gödöllő.

We established our company with the aim to create hunting possibilities in Hungary for domestic and foreign hunters, to fully organise these hunts and to make sure that our guests return home satisfied and with many beautiful memories. Romania boasts a long hunting history and ample hunting grounds. Home to Europe’s biggest brown bear population and the world’s best chamois trophies. The  Carpathian Mountains are the home of large wolf packs and the ancient Capercaille. These are species that are either extinct, endangered or re-introduced elsewhere in Europe. The Carpathians are also known for huge red stags and wild boars, providing authentic hunting experiences. In addition, the Romanian plains and lower hills offer the perfect habitat for two other deer species – fallow and roe deer stocks are strong here.

The driven Wild Boar hunt in Romania is also a unique experience.We organize successful and action-packed driven hunts for group of 8-14 hunters.

Transylvania, also called Land of Dracula, has several small towns and village that are hidden gems, taking you back in time. Besides hunting, country tours are available for you as well!

For the mountain enthusiast, we head to the sharp hilltops of the Austrian alps to hunt for chamois and alpine ibex. This ethical spot and stalk hunt is a thrilling experience and a sustainable hunting practice. It requires good physical condition as well as solid shooting skills, which is only fair. We should work hard for trophies in the stunning alps. Our local guides are primed to help you find success, with the hope that the high mountains will be gracious to us. Depending on the season, we can also see and hunt marmots, but they hibernate between late September and early October, so it highly depends on the weather.

We usually stay and hunt from local hunting cabins up in the hills, which allow us to hunt from the first daylight. These cabins have all the necessary comforts and alpine style kitchen, plus to mountain views you will not believe.

Switzerland

Join us in beautiful Switzerland to hunt alpine ibex. This is the most prestigious ibex hunt in Europe, making it a real treat for mountain lovers. The Swiss ibex is the rarest and largest subspecies, with impressive size of horns reaching up to 100-110 cm length. The Swiss wildlife department has a very successful conservation program for these majestic animals. They keep the number of licenses to sustainable level. Issuing them out only after surveying the population each spring. The limited number of licenses ensures quality over quantity for ibex trophies, making this an adventure not to be missed for a Capra Slammer. Here, success requires a well organized hunt. Our local guides are wildlife officers, so they know every inch of the mountains, and pre-scout for our dream trophies.

Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada

Newfoundland is our second home, since our founder and owner Laszlo Albert now spends most of the year on “The Rock” as it is known by locals. This lesser known Canadian province is an ultimate hunting, fishing, outdoor destination. Home of the world’s densest Moose population and the only place where one can still hunt for the majestic woodland caribou. The island also boasts impressive Black Bear trophies, and it’s marine wildlife is world famous. Each year about a million tourists come to visit. To hike the beautiful trails, to see teeming seabirds colonies, to watch whales and icebergs, to enjoy ecoutours around natural reserves, and to feast on the best seafood one can imagine.

We hunt on the island’s best hunting areas, with a 90% average success rate on Newfoundland big game species.
