Real Damn Good Tour

With guest Don Stalling & The Divided
A staple in the Texas music scene since 2006, country fans have been singing JAB songs for more than a decade already. The seven-piece group’s relentless on-stage attitude quickly made it a successful touring act, building out from a Texas band to a regional act to a national crew with a devout following from coast to coast.
Two of their projects, Small Town Family Dream and Front Row Seat , scored top 10 debuts on the Billboard country albums chart, while five titles cracked the Billboard country singles lists, including a pair – “Oh, Tonight” with Kacey Musgraves and “Wasn’t That Drunk” with Carly Pearce – that represented their first chart appearances.

Tickets for the tour will go live this Friday at 10 a.m. local time with more information available on their website . The Josh Abbott Band has historically been one of the biggest groups in the Texas country music scene. With collaborations alongside Carly Pearce and Kacey Musgraves, they’ve garnered some mainstream attention over the years. However, their core fanbase in the Texas/Oklahoma region would call them some of the greatest ever to do it. Frontman Josh Abbott also formed a supergroup, The Panhandlers, with Celto Cordero of Flatland Cavalry, John Baumann, and William Clark Green.

Josh Abbott Band Announces Upcoming Studio Album ‘Somewhere Down The Road’
This is a big week for the Josh Abbott Band.
Shortly following the announcement of their next headlining tour, the “Somewhere Down the Road Tour,” and as those tickets go on sale, the Josh Abbott Band has also released their latest single “What Were You Thinking.”
The band’s second single in just over a month, following “Barstool Boys,” “What Were You Thinking is an easy going track about falling in love just when you needed it most.
Give it a listen below:
“To say you saved me isn’t saying it right You pulled me from the darkness girl, in the nick of time Traded my demons for a better life But still I wonder what was going through your mind…”
The Josh Abbott Band formed in the unassuming country music hot bed of Lubbock, TX in 2006 while Abbott was a student at Texas Tech, and the rest is history. Releasing their first music in 2009, the Josh Abbott Band has been around for well over a decade now, and it’s safe to say they’ve achieved a pretty legendary status atop the Texas music scene while experiencing significant national and mainstream success over the years.
With their 2010 debut album She’s Like Texas producing massive hits like the title track “She Likes Texas” and “Oh, Tonight,” featuring an at the time up and comer by the name of Kacey Musgraves, it didn’t take long for the band to find that national success, and they’ve been able to continue growing their following ever since.
Now, with six albums, several EPs, a ton of singles under their belt, the Josh Abbott Band has a deep catalog to show for their legendary run, and plenty of great new music to prove there are no signs of slowing down. Their previous full length record, 2020’s The Highway Kind , contains their biggest streaming song to date, “Settle Me Down,” and while there hasn’t been another album since, the band has released a few EPs and frontman Josh Abbott has continued to contribute to his brain child and side-project The Panhandlers, a Texas country music supergroup featuring Abbott, William Clark Green, John Baumann, and Cleto Cordero of Flatland Cavalry.
It seems, though, as if the three-plus year album drought is coming to an end for the Josh Abbott Band. With a handful of singles released thus far, and the aforementioned “Somewhere Down the Road Tour” being set in motion, it was announced today that the band’s next record will be titled Somewhere Down the Road , and it’s bound to be a good one.
Set to be released on January 26th, the new single “What Were You Thinking” dropped with what appears to be the album cover for Somewhere Down the Road , and one can only imagine that at least some of the singles released previously released this year will be included as well.
Check out some of the other new music they have been releasing here, some of which could potentially find its way onto the forthcoming project..

And if you’ve made it this far, go ahead and cue up a couple of the band’s classics here. The Josh Abbott Band paved the way for many of the biggest artists that have come up through Texas of late, and these songs were undoubtedly influential in what the next generation of Texas artists has been able to accomplish, both in the Lone Star state and across the whole country.

Josh Abbott Band Announces New Album Somewhere Down The Road Out January 26, 2024
October 20, 2023 Press Release In the News 0
Shares Heartfelt New Single “What Were You Thinking”
Tickets for somewhere down the road tour on sale today, performing at stagecoach in april.
Today, the Josh Abbott Band announces that they will release their seventh studio LP Somewhere Down The Road on January 26, 2024 via their Pretty Damn Tough label. Along with the announcement, the band has also shared heartfelt new single “What Were You Thinking.” A propulsive track with a masterful fiddle solo, “What Were You Thinking” finds singer/songwriter Josh Abbott opening himself up to the love that comes his way. Earlier this week, the Josh Abbott Band announced their plans for an extensive tour next year, taking them through Fort Worth, Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago, Indianapolis and more, concluding with their first appearance at Stagecoach Festival in April. Tickets are on sale today, and for a full list of dates, please see below or visit joshabbottband.com .

“If you’re lucky, someone comes along and motivates you to be even better,” shares Abbott. “They reassure your insecurities, fight your ghosts, and create a better life with you. It makes you wonder how it happened, but then you settle in and realize you deserve this. That’s ‘What Were You Thinking’ and it was written from the heart.”
Produced by Dwight A. Baker (who also produced 2015’s Front Row Seat) and recorded at his Matchbox Studios in Austin, Somewhere Down The Road is the Josh Abbott Band’s first full-length LP since 2020’s critically-acclaimed The Highway Kind. It also marks the first effort from the band’s newly reconfigured lineup, including longtime members Eddie Villanueva (drums), Austin Davis (banjo), David Fralin (keys) and Jimmy Hartman (bass) as well as recent additions Adam Hill (fiddle) and guitarists Cale Richardson and Kris Farrow.
Originally, the band wrote and recorded an initial follow-up LP to The Highway Kind, which was ultimately scrapped because it felt too much like a sequel rather than a reflection of their current state. From there, Somewhere Down The Road was born, resulting in one of their most personal offerings to date – a collection of songs that chronicle the importance of family and meeting life on its own terms. Sonically, thematically and lyrically, the album represents the very beginning of a new chapter for the band.
“For a long period of time I wanted to write hooky three-minute songs that would sound good on the radio, but now I’m writing from the heart more than I ever have,” shares Abbott about the album. “This record came from getting back to who I really am as a songwriter, and there was a lot of exorcising some of the demons from my past.”
Even though the band hasn’t put out a full-length album since 2020, it’s been a busy year for Abbott and the rest of the group. In March, Abbott’s side-project, TX country supergroup The Panhandlers, released their second album Tough Country to acclaim from Billboard , BrooklynVegan , Wide Open Country , The Bluegrass Situation , No Depression and more. And this summer, the Josh Abbott Band previewed the new album with the “working man classic” ( Taste of Country ) “Barstool Boys” after sharing the one-off tracks “Country Nights” and “My Dad And His Truck” , which garnered attention from CMT , Country Central , Whiskey Riff and Holler . They’ve also been on tour throughout the spring and the summer, wrapping up the year with a handful of dates with Dierks Bentley and Parker McCollum.
A staple in the Texas music scene since forming in 2006 at Lubbock’s Texas Tech University, the Josh Abbott Band has become an icon in the Lone Star State thanks to numerous successful singles and albums over the last decade plus. The group’s relentless on-stage attitude quickly made it a successful touring act, building out from a Texas band to a regional act to a national crew with a devoted following from coast to coast. Over the course of their career, the group has earned two top 10 debuts on the Billboard country albums chart, two RIAA Certified Gold singles, two top 40 hits including features with Kacey Musgraves and Carly Pearce and upwards of 235 million streams, fully affirming JAB as a formidable force in modern country music.
