Josh Turner Reveals Songs on ‘King Size Manger,’ Announces Holiday Tour

We now know the songs on Josh Turner ‘s upcoming Christmas album, King Size Manger , as well as the dates for his first-ever holiday tour! The South Carolina native will kick off his Holiday & The Hits Tour on November 18 in Holland, Michigan, wrapping up the tour with a show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on December 20.

“Making a Christmas record can be a mighty daunting task for an artist,” says Turner. “There are so many songs to choose from and there’ve been so many versions of those songs throughout history. It can be intimidating to know whether you’ll be able to measure up to what’s already been done and when I get to that point, I step back and remind myself that I have to do what I hear in my heart.”

Turner has classics like “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “Silent Night, Holy Night” on the album, along with four originals, three that he co-wrote.

“You may be surprised to hear my arrangement on some of these songs that you know so well,” Turner says. “We had a lot of fun throwing out all the preconceived notions of what a Christmas record should sound like. In my opinion, it’s about the words and the heart and soul of how a song sounds. You don’t need jingle bells on a song to make it a Christmas song.”

“The King Size Manger Tour ” Will Kick-Off December 2 In Georgia

The holidays will be here before you know it, and in anticipation of the festive season, multi-platinum-selling recording artist Josh Turner is releasing his debut Christmas album, King Size Manger , on vinyl for the first time. Fans will be able to purchase King Size Manger on September 16. Also, on October 21, Turner will release his first-ever Christmas DVD, part of the Gaither Gospel Series, which features new performances and an intimate sit-down interview with Turner.  The “King Size Manger” television special will premiere on UPtv on Friday, November 18, at 7:00 pm ET. “The King Size Manger Tour” kicks-off on Friday, December 2, in Macon, GA.

King Size Manger , Turner’s first-ever Christmas project, which was released last year, features fresh interpretations of the classics and introduces four originals, three of which were written or co-written by Turner. The album has nearly 20M global streams, debuted No. 1 on the Seasonal Albums sales chart the week of release, and currently still sits on the chart at No. 14.

Says Turner, “I was really excited that we were able to release King Size Manger on vinyl this year.  I’ve collected vinyl records pretty much my entire life and there is just something extra special about listening to Christmas music on a record player.”

Taped at The Grove in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, the Gaither Gospel Series DVD, “King Size Manger,” features new performance footage of Turner singing all eleven songs from his debut holiday album.  Hosted by Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase, the renowned television hosts also sit-down with Turner and his family who share some of their favorite Christmas traditions and holiday memories. The live performance DVD features guest appearances by The Turner Family, Rhonda Vincent, Pat McLaughlin and more. Video singles will also be available on the Gaither Music TV YouTube channel.

“I wanted the special to feel like an extension of our Christmas tour from last year,” says Turner. “My family came out on the road and they were a big part of The King Size Manger Tour . Jennifer played keys on numerous songs, Hampton played most of the show and Hawke, Marion and Colby were all featured on several songs.  I think we were able to capture a big part of the road show.”

In addition to the DVD, fans will be able to watch a special broadcast premiere of the performance on UPtv on Friday, November 18, at 7:00 pm ET.

For the second year in a row, Turner will embark on a Christmas tour. “The King Size Manger Tour” will include holiday songs featured on King Size Manger in addition to Turner’s hits.

Adds Turner, “Last year was a first for me in all my years of touring. It was an extra special tour because my family was able to join me on stage. I don’t know how many more years we’ll have a Christmas tour, so Jennifer and I are soaking up these special moments as a family.  The boys seemed to really enjoy touring. Some of them may enjoy it a little too much, lol!”

Josh Turner Announces New Holiday Album + Tour

Country superstar Josh Turner has officially announced his first Christmas album, King Size Manger (out Oct. 8 on MCA Nashville). The holiday album features fresh interpretations of several classic Christmas songs and introduces four originals written or co-written songs by Turner himself. Turner is also joined by some very special guests including his wife and four boys singing a holiday classic, which is a family tradition that the country singer wanted to feature on the album. To take things even further, the country singer decided he would embark on a 16 city Holiday & The Hits Tour .

About the album, Turner stated, "Making a Christmas record can be a mighty daunting task for an artist. The country music singer arranged five of the 11 tracks on the album, including "Mele Kalikimaka My 'Ohana" which features ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro and Grammy-nominated Hawaiian trio Ho'okena. Turner also wrote the title track, "King Size Manger," with Mark Narmore and "What He's Given Me" with Pat McLaughlin.

The album also includes Travis Hill and Tom Doublas' track "Soldier's Gift." And for all of those who are obsessed with traditional Christmas songs, you will also find the beloved "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," which also features Turner's wife Jennifer and his four children as well as "Joy to the World" featuring Rhonda Vincent.

Josh Turner Is Releasing a Christmas Album With a Joint Holiday Tour

Josh Turner is looking ahead to the holiday season with his first-ever Christmas album,  King Size Manger,  which he'll release on Oct. 8. A month later, on Nov. 18, he'll embark on a supporting tour, the Holiday & The Hits Tour.

King Size Mange r was a family affair for Turner. His wife and four sons are featured on the album, joining him on the classic "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Though getting to call the family into the studio may have been fun, the country star says the project wasn't easy.

"Making a Christmas record can be a mighty daunting task for an artist," Turner says in a press release. "There are so many songs to choose from and there've been so many versions of those songs throughout history. It can be intimidating to know whether you’ll be able to measure up to what’s already been done."

Turner was able to focus and get the job done by staying true to his brand and putting his own spin on things. "I step back and remind myself that I have to do what I hear in my heart," he says. You may be surprised to hear my arrangement on some of these songs that you know so well."

"We had a lot of fun throwing out all the preconceived notions of what a Christmas record should sound like," he concludes.

Five of the 11 songs on  King Size Mange r were arranged by Turner himself. The project includes four original songs, in addition to well-known holiday classics.

Turner's supporting holiday tour will hit 16 cities and come to a grand closing at the Ryman Auditorium just before Christmas, on Dec. 20.

Josh Turner: King Size Manger Tour

Country music artist Josh Turner will make a stop on his KING SIZE MANGER TOUR at The Fisher Center at Belmont University on Thursday, December 8. Turner will perform songs from his first Christmas album, “King Size Manger,” a collection of new and traditional holiday songs and hymns, as well as his classic country hits you know and love like “Your Man,” “Would You Go With Me” and “Hometown Girl.” Tickets start at $45.50.

Opening support will be The Band Trippp, a trio of 21-year-old triplet brothers – Treyson, JD, and Chaz Stafford – from Jonesboro, Arkansas. Their unique country sound includes a touch of Memphis blues, Kentucky bluegrass, and Southern rock combined with killer family harmony. They are now based in Nashville where JD (lead vocals/drums) is a student at Belmont University majoring in Songwriting, Treyson (bass) is majoring in Biblical Studies at Belmont, and Chaz (guitar) works for Gibson Guitars. They are the 2021 Arkansas Country Music Awards “Young Artists of the Year,” have been voted “Best Local Band” in Northeast Arkansas five times, and won a 2021 worldwide Fender guitar contest recognizing up-and-coming artists. They’ve played more than 200 shows throughout the Southeast, have raised more than $13,000 for Make-A-Wish and other charities, and have been an opening act for artists such as Riley Green, The Josh Abbott Band, The Kentucky Headhunters, and Matt Stell.  Their 2020 debut EP and subsequent singles have all been produced by fellow Arkansan Jon Conley, a guitar player for Kenny Chesney.

Says Turner, “I was really excited that we were able to release King Size Manger on vinyl this year. I’ve collected vinyl records pretty much my entire life and there is just something extra special about listening to Christmas music on a record player.”

Taped at The Grove in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, the Gaither Gospel Series DVD, King Size Manger , features new performance footage of Turner singing all eleven songs from his debut holiday album.  Hosted by Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase, the renowned television hosts also sit-down with Turner and his family who share some of their favorite Christmas traditions and holiday memories. The live performance DVD features guest appearances by The Turner Family, Rhonda Vincent, Pat McLaughlin and more. Video singles will also be available on the Gaither Music TV YouTube channel.

“I wanted the special to feel like an extension of our Christmas tour from last year,” says Turner. “My family came out on the road and they were a big part of ‘The King Size Manger Tour.’ Jennifer played keys on numerous songs, Hampton played most of the show and Hawke, Marion and Colby were all featured on several songs. I think we were able to capture a big part of the road show.”

In addition to the DVD, fans will be able to watch a special broadcast premiere of the performance on UPtv on Friday, November 18, at 7:00 pm ET.

For the second year in a row, Turner will embark on a Christmas tour. “The King Size Manger Tour” will include holiday songs featured on King Size Manger in addition to Turner’s hits.

Adds Turner, “Last year was a first for me in all my years of touring. It was an extra special tour because my family was able to join me on stage. I don’t know how many more years we’ll have a Christmas tour, so Jennifer and I are soaking up these special moments as a family. The boys seemed to really enjoy touring. Some of them may enjoy it a little too much, lol!”

As for song titles, and I had even delved into lyrics within certain songs to see if maybe there was something that stood out, and  King Size Manger  just made the most sense to me, because it was an idea that came to me… I don’t know if anything specific really inspired it. I just I got to thinking about how there’s different sized mattresses that people sleep on, and I guess when I thought about a king-sized mattress, it got me thinking about Jesus being in a manger, like didn’t matter what the actual physical size was like. It was, you know, the right size for a king.”

Josh Turner: King Size Manger Tour featuring Christmas songs & the hits

Josh Turner's most treasured childhood holiday memories are of listening to Randy Travis' "An Old Time Christmas," as it was the soundtrack to the holiday season in his Hannah, SC home. When Turner set out to record his first Christmas album "King Size Manger," Travis' country Christmas collection was his guidepost. Turner didn't want a Frank Sinatra horn section or a 100-piece orchestra. He planned to create a timeless country Christmas album he could imagine his family's neighbors listening to in South Carolina. "I just had it ingrained in my mind that you got all this other Christmas music out there in the world, but when it comes to growing up in the country and the lifestyle that comes with a country upbringing 'Randy's record, that's it, you know?'" Turner admitted. "I had just kind of tricked myself into thinking that I need to make volume two." Turner's "King Size Manger" is his dream realized - and then some. "King Size Manger" is a collection of traditional country versions of classic Christmas songs with some original tunes as well as some Hawaiian, bluegrass and swing sprinkled into the mix. Turner wrote three of the four original songs and arranged five tracks on the 11-song album. His rich, distinct baritone wraps around each song like a cozy blanket on a snowy morning. Holiday classics including "The First Nowell" (featuring the song's traditional spelling) and "Silent Night, Holy Night" become even more nostalgic and the originals "King Size Manger," "What He’s Given Me," "Soldier's Gift" and "Mele Kalikimaka My 'Ohana" adopt the feel of time-honored Christmas traditions. "I allowed my heart to come out," Turner said. "Every single one of them, I had a hand in reshaping and recreating because a lot of these songs had been done so many times. Making a Christmas record can be a mighty daunting task for an artist. There are so many songs to choose from and there've been so many versions of those songs throughout history. It can be intimidating to know whether you'll be able to measure up to what's already been done and when I get to that point, I step back and remind myself that I have to do what I hear in my heart. You may be surprised to hear my arrangement on some of these songs that you know so well. We had a lot of fun throwing out all the preconceived notions of what a Christmas record should sound like. In my opinion, it’s about the words and the heart and soul of how a song sounds. You don't need jingle bells on a song to make it a Christmas song." For two decades, Turner's deep, velvet voice has been the most recognizable on country radio. His unwavering dedication to the tenets of the country genre inspired a generation of country singers and bolstered an underserved segment of the fanbase. For just as long, Turner has been upfront about his dedication to his Christian faith. He released his gospel album "I Serve a Savior" in 2018, after waiting for what felt like the right time between mainstream projects. He was just as intentional with the release of his first full-length Christmas album, which fans have asked for since the beginning of his career. To prepare, he wrote Christmas songs for one year leading up to recording. If planning "King Size Manger" was intimidating because of the volume of Christmas albums available and the number of times many holiday favorites have been recorded, then trying to come up with fresh ideas for an original Christmas song was downright scary. "You've got Santa Claus, and you got Jesus, and most of those songs have been written," he laughed. "You're kind of up the creek on creative ideas, so I really had to dig down deep and try to find little turns of phrases and clever twists." When the idea for the song "King Size Manger" popped in his head, Turner said that was intimidating, too. He knew the concept was strong and didn't want to mess it up. Turner took the plot to longtime friend and co-writer Mark Narmore. The men have written hundreds of songs together, yet when Turner shared the idea - Narmore was speechless. "He was like, 'What a title!'" Turner recalled. "He and I have such a rapport and are comfortable enough with each other to allow the heart and soul to come out of a song that we're trying to write. We sat down and knew we needed to just tell the story of what is a king size manger and why is it a king size manger. So, that's what we did." "King Size Manger," the album's title track, tells the prophecy and story of Jesus' birth powerfully delivered through simple words and amplified by Turner's ardent and honest delivery. The lyrics include: There in the hills of Bethlehem No one had any room for them They knew that child was a real-life changer Lying there in a king size manger "I was so proud of it when we finished the song," Turner said. "I was kind of surprised and shocked that we could pull that off." Turner and Nashville-based singer/songwriter Pat McLaughlin were inspired by Ralph Stanley's version of "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" when they wrote the banjo-fronted bluegrass midtempo "What He's Given Me." Turner is the lone writer on the Hawaiian-influenced "Mele Kalikimaka My 'Ohana" (featuring Jake Shimabukuro and Ho'okena), inspired by an anniversary trip taken to the island with Turner's wife, Jennifer. Affirmed by its unique harmonies, ukulele and strum patterns, its sound makes "Mele Kalikimaka My 'Ohana" a standout on "King Size Manger." Songwriters Travis Hill and Tom Douglas penned "Soldier's Gift," the album's lead single. "I loved what the song says and musically, it's laid back enough to where it grabs your attention, where you really focus on the words. At first, I thought "Where's the song going?" But I just felt there are so many families and so many of our members of our military that could relate to this song. And it fit with all the other songs and added to the variety and subject matter on this record." Turner dressed up a couple of Christmas favorites with some special guests. Rhonda Vincent joined him on the swinging, twin fiddle-driven "Joy to the World" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," the first classic Turner knew had to be on the record because it was always his favorite song, features his wife and four sons. "I'm sitting in my living room one night just kind of messing around with the song. And all of a sudden, I hear this background vocal part and I thought this is what Jennifer and the boys need to be singing on. So, I called a couple of the boys in and I asked them to sing the part and they did. We went through it and I thought 'yeah, this is it,' so I made a little recording of it on my phone. Then we went into the studio and they did such a great job on all of it," he said of his family. "I'm pretty proud of that one." The singer wanted to keep his version of "Go Tell It On The Mountain" as primitive as possible and relied only on piano, Hammond B3 organ and a three-person choir for support.

Turner announces  holiday & the hits,  first-ever christmas tour.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Multi-platinum-selling recording artist Josh Turner  is releasing his first-ever Christmas album,  King Size Manger ,  October 8 on MCA Nashville.  The holiday project features fresh interpretations of the classics and introduces four originals, three of which were written or co-written by Turner. Plus, Turner is joined by very special guests including Turner’s wife and four boys singing a holiday classic, a family tradition Turner wanted to feature on this special album. In support of the album, Turner will embark on a 16-city  Holiday & The Hits Tour , culminating at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, where the album will come to life alongside Turner’s most notable hits.

Turner arranged five of the 11 tracks on  King Size Manger  and its four original songs include the solo penned “Mele Kalikimaka My ‘Ohana” featuring world renowned ukulele virtuoso  Jake Shimabukuro  and Grammy-nominated Hawaiian trio  Ho’okena . Turner also wrote “What He’s Given Me” with Pat McLaughlin, as well as the title track “King Size Manger” with Mark Narmore. The album also includes the poignant Travis Hill/Tom Douglas track “Soldier’s Gift.” Christmas music fans will also find the beloved classics “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” which features Turner’s wife Jennifer and his four children, as well as “Joy To The World” featuring Rhonda Vincent the queen of bluegrass.

Country music superstar Josh Turner discusses his newly released album 'Deep South' and shares his perspective on the evolution of the genre.

Country music artist Josh Turner is getting into the holiday spirit.

Turner, 44, spoke with Fox News Digital about how his faith in Christianity has been prevalent throughout his music career and will be seen in his Christmas special, "King Size Manger," debuting on Friday. The "King Size Manger" special, which will feature Turner performing iconic holiday classics and originals, is also the name of his latest album. 

Turner – who is a married father-of-four – shared that he has was raised in faith and practiced Christianity his whole life. He noted that he always wanted to do a gospel record, and finally got the chance in 2018.

" Country music is where my heart is, has always been, [but] I've always wanted to do a gospel record," he shared. "My fans have always kind of been begging me for one, for many years and never really had the opportunity up until, you know, 2018 came around ."

JOSH TURNER ON FAITH-BASED ALBUM: IT'S A 'GOD-ORDAINED BLESSING'

Turner released his faith-based album, "I Serve a Savior," in 2018. Since then, the country music artist has ventured into the country-Christmas sector.

" It’s been a little different, but it's also been the same," Turner began. "I had no idea [what] the Christmas record was going to sound like for me ."

Turner shared that when getting inspiration for a holiday album, he turned to Randy Travis’ "An Old Time Christmas."

" I just kind of always used that as a template for what a Christmas album, a country Christmas album should be ,"  he explained.

Turner had to channel his own flavor on a country Christmas album . To do so, he combined some holiday classics with a few of his own original songs.

"In   order for me to do that, I wanted to basically put together a collection of songs that, you know, it's a good mixture of the standards, the classics that we all know and love, some original songs and even some outside original songs ," Turner said.

Turner noted that he did not want his country album to come off as a Christmas jazz record. "I just wanted to really make sure that this was in line with, you know, what my fans have come to expect from me musically. But at the same time, doing things that are new and fresh," he explained.

Country musician Pat McLaughlin and Rhonda Vincent will join Turner during the "King Size Manager" special, as well as his four children and his wife. Turner married Jennifer Ford in 2003, and they share Hampton, 16, Colby, 13, Marion, 11 and Samuel, who is turning 2 next month.

Turner shared that his oldest son, Hampton, plays five different instruments during the Christmas special. Turner has been known to include his family in his performances, but this time around, everyone was much more involved.

"I felt like it would be appropriate to have them on those songs," Turner said of his family. "So I featured them on my favorite Christmas song, which is ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.’"

Turner continued, "It just kind of made it fun for the audiences and make the fun for them and for me."

Aside from "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," Turner is most proud of his title track, "King Size Manger."

"I don't really know where I came up with it or how it came to me. It just struck me one day and I put it in my phone and just, I knew it was a special title," he shared. Turner noted he was intimidated when it came to writing the song because he was so fond of the title, he wanted to produce an equally-great track.

As for holiday traditions in the Turner family, both Josh and Jennifer were adamant about their family-of-six spending Christmas Day at home. 

"We spend a lot of time traveling back and forth," Turner explained. "We realized the importance of them having those Christmas memories at home ."

Turner’s family reads the Christmas Story in the Bible, as well as opens gifts and if weather permits, they go outside to play in the snow.

Country artist Josh Turner performs at Black Oak Amp in August. When tickets go on sale

Known for hit singles like "Long Black Train," "Your Man" and "Would You Go with Me," country and gospel musician Josh Turner is set to perform in the Ozarks this summer.

Turner will perform at the Black Oak Amphitheater on Friday, Aug. 16, as a part of the venue's EquipmentShare Summer Concert Series. Doors will open at 6 p.m., the opening performance, which has yet to be announced, will perform at 7:30 p.m. and Turner will take the stage at 9:15 p.m.

Who is Josh Turner?

Turner, a South Carolina native, got his start in a gospel quartet called Thankful Hearts. After graduating from Belmont University in Nashville, Turner debuted his single , "Long Black Train" at the Grand Ole Opry in 2002. And a year later he released his first album with the same name. The album quickly peaked on both the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums lists.

Through his career, Turner has released a total of nine studio albums — "Your Man" in 2006, "Everything is Fine" in 2007, "Haywire" in 2010, "Punching Bag" in 2012, "Deep South" in 2017, "I Serve a Savior" in 2018, "Country State of Mind" in 2020 and "King Size Manger" (his first Christmas album) in 2021.

Turner has been nominated for two Grammy Awards, five Country Music Association Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards, one Country Music Television Award, seven American Country Awards and six Inspirational Country Music Awards, according to his biography.
