Mudvayne Play ‘Fish Out of Water’ Live for First Time Ever at Summer Tour Kickoff – Setlist
Mudvayne 's Psychotherapy Sessions summer tour with Coal Chamber , GWAR , Nonpoint and Butcher Babies kicked off last night (July 20) and the headliners played a 15-song set that included the first-ever live performance of "Fish Out Of Water" as well as their cover of The Police 's "King of Pain."
The trek, which runs through Aug. 26, launched in West Palm Beach, Florida amid the scorching heat blanketing most of the United States. It was the very first headlining tour performance for Mudvayne since playing their first comeback show in 2021 at the Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival.
It's been all fest stops for Mudvayne until now and it was a notable night for the reunited Coal Chamber, who also made their first tour appearance since playing their first reunion show earlier this year at the Sick New World Festival.
For both fans who grew up with the bands in the mid-to-late 1990s and 2000s and those who never had a chance to witness them back then, this tour is a special one.

The kickoff found Mudvayne playing a cover of The Police's "King of Pain" live for the first time as well. The song originally appeared on the band's 2007 compilation By the People, For the People , while "Fish Out of Water" is culled from 2008's The New Game .

Mudvayne have announced the “Psychotherapy Sessions” Summer 2023 US tour with support from Coal Chamber , GWAR , Nonpoint, and Butcher Babies.
Dates kick off July 20th in West Palm Beach, Florida, and run through August 26th in Englewood, California.
A Live Nation ticket pre-sale begins Wednesday (March 22nd) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster using the code OPENER . General public on-sale begins Friday (March 24th).
Once tickets are on sale, you can also find them at StubHub , where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. StubHub is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.
The outing will be Mudvayne’s first headlining tour in over a decade, and the nu-metal vets have culled together quite the tour package to mark the occasion. The bill features a reunited Coal Chamber — fronted by DevilDriver’s Dez Fafara — following up their appearance at the Sick New World festival in May. Meanwhile, the dates with Mudvayne are GWAR’s only non-festival gigs on the books for 2023 thus far.
Remarked Mudvayne drummer Matt McDonough in a press statement: “An Event. On the Horizon. Over 25 years in the making. Brave travelers… You, and the alien seed — MuDvAyNe. A journey begun. Reaching Zenith. Now for the Eschatology.”

MUDVAYNE and COAL CHAMBER: See wild photos of Psychotherapy Sessions tour kickoff
Last night (July 20th) at Florida's iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre, Mudvayne launched The Psychotherapy Sessions , the band's first headlining trek in 14 years. It was also a milestone night for fellow nu-metal pioneers Coal Chamber , who played in direct support and, in doing so, kicked off their first tour in eight years.
Opening the show were GWAR, Nonpoint and Butcher Babies, making for a very, very hot evening. Literally. Temperatures in Palm Beach soared into the triple digits.
But the bands, and the fans, persevered through the heat and humidity, raging and rocking as the Coal Chamber introduced new songs to their reunion setlist — including "Big Truck" and "El Cu Cuy" — and Mudvayne gave "Fish Out of Water" and their cover of the Police's "King of Pain" their live debuts.
Photographer Kevin Wilson was in the house to capture all the action — check out some of his standout shots below.

Mudvayne & Coal Chamber Announce February 2024 Australian Tour
It’s been a long time coming for fans of both bands, but this February, the waiting finally ends.

Aussie nu-metal music fans, rejoice as one of your longest-awaited heavy music tours is finally heading down under. Today, Mudvayne and Coal Chamber announce a co-headline tour of Australia, landing on our shores in February 2024.
While the latter last visited Australia in March 2012, Mudvayne haven’t performed in Australia since January and February 2006. It’s been a long time coming for fans of both bands, but this February, the waiting finally ends.
The upcoming tour begins on Wednesday, 14 February, at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall before heading to Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Friday, 16 February, Melbourne’s Festival Hall on Saturday, 17 February, Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall on Monday, 19 February, and ends on Wednesday, 21 February, at Perth’s Metro City.
You can register here for pre-sale tickets to shows in all five cities, with access to pre-sale tickets closing on Tuesday, 12 September, at 9 am AEST. Tickets will also be available via The Phoenix and Teamwrk Touring .
In 2021, Mudvayne reformed after a 12-year hiatus at the Inkcarceration Festival in Mansfield, Ohio. The band has continued touring since their return. While no music has surfaced yet, vocalist Chad Gray hinted that the reunion would see them hit the studio together on an episode of Avenged Sevenfold member Johnny Christ' s podcast Drinks With Johnny.

Mudvayne's last release was 2009's self-titled full-length. In July 2022, they joined Static-X, Rob Zombie and Powerman 5000 on the Freaks On Parade tour.
Mudvayne got their introduction to Australian audiences at the Big Day Out in 2000. A wander over to one of the side stages found you confronted by a band decked out in some pretty serious makeup (although there can be little doubt their guitarist looked a little like Darth Maul or perhaps a ladybird) fronted by a maniacal frontman sporting four foot long blue dreadlocks from his beard.
Coal Chamber are a supremely influential heavy band, managing to blend noisy and detuned guitars (in a good way), hardcore punk and hip-hop. Their most recent album, Rivals , arrived in 2015. You know you’re in for a good time.

CHAD GRAY On New MUDVAYNE Music: 'We're Just Trying To Figure Out Where We Want It To Go'
During an appearance on The Jesea Lee Show , MUDVAYNE frontman Chad Gray spoke about the progress of the songwriting sessions for their next studio release. The reunited metallers haven't put out any new material since 2009, which means a decade and a half has gone by without a single fresh MUDVAYNE song.
"We're just trying to figure out where we want it to go," Chad said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET ). "Right now, we've got some, you can call them whole songs 'cause they have a start and a finish, but I feel like they're kind of half-songs. I just don't think they're realized yet. I don't think we have figured out exactly how we want this to play out with what we're doing in our business or how we want it to sonically sound."
Gray continued: "Nothing inside of me wants to be the MUDVAYNE of [the band's 2000 debut album] 'L.D. 50' . I think that the more albums we wrote, the better we got as songwriters. A lot of people would probably disagree with me, but [2008's] 'The New Game' is probably one of my favorite fucking albums. It's got like 'Dull Boy' on it, it's got just some really quintessential MUDVAYNE stuff that's not anything like anybody else was doing. I feel like we fucking finally had kind of found our groove. 'L.D. 50' , to me, was a very gratuitous, individual workshop, and we put all four pieces together and called it an album."
Last October, Gray told Australia's Heavy that he and his MUDVAYNE bandmates had "started putting some new stuff together a little bit and people that have heard [some of the early demo] stuff are really excited about it. Only the people that are closest to us have heard anything, and, like I said, it's really rough; it's demos," he explained. "But you can tell it's special. And I think that we have to make sure it's MUDVAYNE . We have to make sure that it's what we want. So we'll just have to see. We were working on it, working on it, working on it a little bit here and there.
"We all live states away from each other — nobody lives even close to each other — so it makes it a little bit difficult," he explained. "But we were able to get some stuff demoed up or whatever, but with us being so far apart, it's a little slow going. And then we just kind of hit a wall. We were, like, 'Okay, we've gotta get back into touring.' So we put everything together and we went back out [last] summer." In August 3034, Chad told The Oakland Press that he and his MUDVAYNE bandmates had "four [songs] in the pipe. I've written each one of them probably three different times, 'cause it's like nothing's good enough," he revealed. "We're gonna keep pushing. We're all getting along really good. We're all talking. Hopefully we all want the same thing from our music, so we'll see. It's definitely the thing that makes the most sense to do now."
MUDVAYNE completed its first headlining tour in over 14 years, "The Psychotherapy Sessions" , last summer. Support on the 26-city trek, which was produced by Live Nation , came from COAL CHAMBER , along with GWAR , NONPOINT and BUTCHER BABIES .
Previously, MUDVAYNE made waves in 2022 when they embarked on the "Freaks On Parade" tour co-headlined with ROB ZOMBIE . This 2023 tour, however, marked MUDVAYNE 's first headlining endeavor since 2009.
Gray told The Oakland Press that his "main motivation for putting [ MUDVAYNE ] back together and coming back was our fans", including those who discovered the band during its absence. "There's so many younger kids that are coming up and coming into our world, the metal world, and they're learning about MUDVAYNE ," he said. "So you have this, like, the ground's kind of rumbling and it goes out and touches more and more people, but we weren't out there to scratch that itch. You still have your actual fan base but you're accumulating new people. So when we came back it was very exciting for us. It was about our fans and giving those new fans the experience."
MUDVAYNE formed in 1996 and has sold over six million records worldwide, earning gold certification for three albums ( "L.D. 50" , "The End Of All Things To Come" , "Lost And Found" ). The band is known for its sonic experimentation, innovative album art, face and body paint, masks and uniforms. MUDVAYNE is Gray , Greg Tribbett (guitar, backing vocals), Matthew McDonough (drums, synthesizer) and Ryan Martinie (bass).
Gray spent 15 years fronting HELLYEAH , which released its sixth studio album, "Welcome Home" , in September 2019 via Eleven Seven Music . The disc marked the group's final effort with drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott , who passed away six years ago.
MUDVAYNE did not tour behind its fifth album, which was barely promoted and sold weakly upon release.

MUDVAYNE + COAL CHAMBER
16 Feb 2024
Tix from $127.50
After an absence of well over a decade, Mudvayne and Coal Chamber have joined forces for an EPIC Australian tour in February.
- Presented by: Teamwrk Touring & The Phoenix AU
- Mudvayne have sold more than six million albums worldwide with 3 Platinum albums in Australia alone.
- They were honoured with the first ever MTV2 Award and were heavily featured in the pages of Rolling Stone, Revolver, Entertainment Weekly, Newsweek, Blender, Maxim, Spin, Guitar World, USA Today and countless others media outlets where metal bands fear to tread. They were even written into a pivotal episode of The Sopranos!
- For most artists, such achievements usually mark the summation of an entire career - if they’re lucky. For Mudvayne , that was just their first 5 years.
- Mudvayne's musical alchemy defies categorisation, seamlessly blending death metal, jazz, fusion, progressive rock, and world music into an audacious mix that completely sets them apart from their peers; so much so that they are unofficially credited with creating the ‘math metal’ genre.
- Coal Chamber were one of the first bands to weave detuned guitars, noisy textures, white knuckle intensity, hardcore punk and hip hop like they were always meant to be.
- Bridging the gap between heavy metal power and industrial groove at an infectious tempo, their self-titled debut delivered the classics, Loco, Sway, Big Truck and Oddity and was included in Kerrang! Magazines’ '21 Greatest Nu-Metal Albums of All Time’. Their influence is undeniable!
