A Grand Road trip of 3400 Kms and Scenic Drives of Karnataka

Posted on August 19, 2016 by Divsi by Divsi

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

I love road trips.

The changing contours of the sky, with cotton-like clouds leading the way. Fields acting like stoic companions throughout, though the vegetation keeps changing every few miles.

Its thrilling and tiring and arduous and adventurous and a treat to the eyes and therapeutic and more.

So with one week in hand, one Innova and 3400 kms (that was the final count, totally unplanned), we were off to explore Karnataka by road from Mumbai.

I looked at the Map online. It seemed an effortless journey. A smooth, no-fuss NH 4 sprawling from Mumbai to Bangalore. The plan had everything: comfort, pre-booked hotels,   great roads, timely arrivals.

BUT what is a road trip without last minute changes and deviations and cancellations and frantic phone calls and last minute recommendations from a superb fellow travel blogger?

So on Shrinidhi Hande’s suggestion, a few last minute changes were made and the route was diverted from NH 4 to the much more scenic, much narrower and winding state highways of this gorgeous state of Karnataka.

The new route of the 3400 kms journey (some of it planned, some totally impromptu) mapped as follows:

Mumbai- Hubli- Jog falls- Shimoga- Chikmaglur- Belur- Halebidu- Madikeri – Mysore- Bangalore- Tirupati – Horsley Hills- Lepakshi – Bangalore- Kolhapur -Mumbai

The trip had everything: from picturesque views, to lush green fields, to rural houses scattered into the distance.

From archaeological wonders, temple ruins and historic temples to rocky mountains and fragrant forests. From palaces of a lost Kingdom and   different variants of Sambhar and Rasam as we travelled from the north of Karnataka to the south.

The first in this series, this post is about the magnificent roads of Karnataka, giving you every reason to drive this stretch during the monsoons for the views it offers.

From Mumbai to Hubli, the drive is a highway drive. Lush green during the rains, 4 laned , extremely comfortable, with the Western ghats and windmills of Satara for company.

It is from Hubli that you bid goodbye to the comforts of the NH and nature welcomes you with open arms.

The journey from Hubli to Jog falls is through Sirsi, a small hamlet nestled in the heart of the Western ghats. The journey is through dense forests and the road is a single lane but extremely well maintained up to Siddhapur.

Throughout the journey to Jog falls, you see thick plantations of areca nut and paddy fields. After Siddhapur, as you are closer to the falls,   the road is a tad bit bumpy.

Jog Falls are the second highest falls in India and the splendor needs to be seen to be believed.

1. Visit ONLY after considerable rains to see the falls in their full glory and when there is a fog prevalent for excellent photo ops.

2.   There are 1000 steps to the base of the falls. Make sure you climb down at least 150 for a better view.

3. The gate to go down opens mostly after 10 AM. On some days it opens at 9.30 AM.

4. Once you are near Jog falls, there are two entrances: One is an old entrance which is actually the backside. There are absolutely no railings and this is a secluded area.

Make sure you enter the front side of the falls via a huge complex, which is a few KMs away.

5. Photo enthusiasts: Please carry your tripod for some slow shutter shots!

Post the visit to the falls, the scenic drive continued. Shimoga was bypassed and as the distance to Chikmaglur decreased, the countryside was akin a picture postcard.

Winding roads overlooked green pastures for a few kms and then the view simply vanished!

Because now we were enveloped in coffee plantations! Chikamaglur is the Coffee capital of Karnataka and the next 30 minutes (before the actual town arrived), we whizzed by the dense coffee plantations with pepper wrapped around the trees in abundance.

The place is an ideal retreat for nature lovers. A sign board reads Mullayanagiri : 13 Kms.

It is a very tough choice. The journey ahead is long and tiring. Temples of Belur and Halebidu need to be covered as well. But then you cannot really see ‘everything’, no matter how close you are to ‘everything’.

Just a small coffee break in this small paradise. No, I definitely haven’t seen Chikamaglur. But then I have seen a place I know I will return to. For its dark, surreal views with sunlight barely filtering in.   For its mountains colored in various shades of green and for its ‘Kaapi’ like no other.

This day was insanely hectic, yet beautiful and still not over. Belur-Halebidu temples just 25 Km from Chikmaglur require ample of time for exploration and are totally worth it.   After Belur we were on the road again, back to intermittent network and gorgeous views.

The distance from Belur to Madikeri (coorg) is 123 km.

It is almost dusk. Coffee estates on either side of the curvy roads.

The jungle is mesmerizing. With the cacophony of birds outside, I sit with windows rolled down, taking in the sights and the sounds of the forest.

It was fragrant and refreshing.   The forest can appease the senses in ways we cannot imagine. With the scents of sandalwood wafting through my window, I wonder if anything else could be more therapeutic, as an eventful day on the road comes to an end.

Distance covered in day one: Hubli- Madikeri : 506 kms.

Your help is required :

1. Convenient route to covet all places starting from Mumbai

2. Suggest the itinerary

3. Advise on road trip as i am travelling with kids

4. Suggestion for decent hotels at each location

' class=

Day 1 - Halt at Hubli

Day 2 - Chikmagalur

Day 3 - Coorg

Day 4 - Coorg

Day 5 - Ooty

Day 6 - Ooty

Day 7 - Mysore

Day 8 - Bangalore

Day 9 - Belgaum

Hubli and Belgaum are included as otherwise the drives are long.

Better to include one or two days more to your trip.

If you mention your budget, we can suggest hotels accordingly.

You can look at two options.

Cover Bengaluru - Mysuru - Ooty - Coorg .

Return back from Coorg - Shivamogga-Shikaripura-Hanagal-Hubbali & continue on the route as above with a stopover at Belagavi or Kolhapur.

Else, from Coorg, you can drive through the coastline highway of Mangaluru-Karwar- Goa - Mumbai ,which is more scenic & you can have have options of visiting more places too.

Thanks for your guidance. It will be nice if you can help me with itinerary (that how many days at which place) and must visit places at each location including on the way.

I will be travelling in the last week of Dec so pl suggest decent hotels at each locations in the budget of Rs 3000/- per night range.

' class=

the routes suggested by deepak 01 and georgycool are good. but i think 8-9 days too rushed. consider dropping ooty as mysore-ooty road has lot of hairpin bends and not that great./ also coorg also has a fabulous climate similar to ooty and ooty has become too commercialised.

instead do the loop of mumbai to bangalore via NH thro pune, kolhapur, belagavi(belgaum),tumkur ,and do return loop via coorg to udipi, karwar, goa etc the western coastal route is beautiful and take your time stopping at udipi, murdeshwar, karwar . the weather will be pleasent on the coast and you can stop 1-2 days in goa or beaches of maharashtra. make the trip the focus and not just destinations.hope this helps

Thank you and your suggestion makes a lot sense to me.

Solo Road Trip From Mumbai To Bengaluru:

Start: The Oberoi Mumbai | Saturday, Sep 12 | 2:30PM

Destination: The Oberoi Bangalore | Sunday 13 | 4:30PM

Total Distance: 1,030KMS | Total driving time: 13hrs 46minutes

Overnight Stay: Raysons Regency, Kolhapur

I was relocating from Mumbai to Bangalore and decided to drive down instead of sending my car with the packers and movers. I had originally planned to leave early in the morning but over slept and hence ended up leaving only after lunch.

I highly recommend this route with certain precautions and you will understand more from the narration below.

The Mumbai – Pune expressway was great as most of us know but the road after Pune, and up to Kolhapur, could have been better. The rains that afternoon had spoilt the show and a lot of muck on the road was making it difficult to go beyond a speed of 60KMPH. It was dark by the time I crossed Pune and so I missed the beauty of scenic ghats.

I took more than an hour to cross the ghats as one side of the road was plagued with heavy-duty road construction vehicles. The ghat road was already narrow and the ongoing construction work had further shrunk the width.

It was a great drive after the ghats and I was in Kolhapur by 830PM. A friend of mine had recommended me this hotel for a over night stay, but, soon after checking in, I found there was nothing great about the hotel. Not of much relevance though, because one only had to sleep in the room before starting the next morning.

I tried the famous Kolhapuri mutton and parathas and went off to sleep after this simple, yet sumptuous, meal for my ever-starving cravings.

I started driving next morning around 930AM and very soon, I realized this was going to be one of the best road trips for me in India. The highway after Belgaum was nothing less than a paradise for anyone who loves to ride/drive. 6 lanes highway, flowers laden dividers, neatly planted trees and far ahead, a cloudy yet blue sky – what else one could have asked for. I covered the next 550KMS in less than 6hrs with two breaks - one lunch and one refueling/tea break

I do not remember the fuel pump station where I stopped for refueling but the experience there is worth mentioning. It was very well managed – courteous staff, functional dustbin to throw garbage, cleanest toilets of the highway and a free ginger tea. Loved the hospitality in Karnataka.

I stopped at Kamat for lunch, and they impressed, yet again. Each item in the South Indian thali was mouth watering and the offering was more than sufficient to fill the tummy of this long distance runner (people who run long distance can relate to this and will find the thali extremely attractive).

You may consider any/all of the following points while planning/driving this route:

1: Drive through the ghat area before 6pm to enjoy the sunset and avoid the never ending traffic

2: If you can tolerate spicy food, Kolhapuri mutton is a must while in Kolhapur

3: Do not get your tyres pressure checked on the highway/at fuel pumps as you will always get the reading a lot lesser than optimum due to high speed

4: If you are driving solo, like how I drove, carry sufficient music playlists with you – or simply, turn on the Apple music how I did. Believe me, you will need all of these.

5: Carry sufficient money (preferably denominations of Rs 10 for umpteen number of toll collection centers who prefer exact change). I do not think it was less than Rs 1,500 in total

6: Be aware of a few road barriers, after ghats and before Kolhapur, which may not be marked correctly. Drive very carefully after dark or else you may miss them. They are quite impactful (I experienced one such barrier).

7: Try to drive in the middle lane/extreme right lane, specifically after Belgaum as a number of cars /bikes might be coming in the wrong direction from the nearby villages – a common scene after you enter Karnataka

Final point: try to cover this route over two days (one and a half day rather) if you are not in a hurry. Starting between 11-1130AM from Mumbai is ideal to get to Kolhapur before sunset. Enjoy the evening and drive to Bangalore the next morning – the sunrise on the highway is an unmatched experience

Drive safe and drive long!

Thank you for suggestion and its going to be a fun activity for the kids

1. Goa->Margao on Highway 4A, 34 to Hubli and then 4 (Don't take this as stretch on 4A and 34 is bad)

2. Goa->Karwar on NH17 then take 63 to Kalghatgi then take Highway 1 to NH4 (Take this)

3. Goa->Karwar on Nh17 then take 63 to Yellapur then take SH6 through Mundgod to Bankapur merge onto NH4, this is shorter than 2 but 5-10 KM patch slows you down to 40-50KM/H but worth it as it goes through forest/village and a Dalai Lama type monastery (I took this route and it was fun)

If staying/going to South Goa, try a road side restaurant called C-Five (you won't find it on google :-( on Benaulim Beach Road (1KM before the beach)...near Caroline Guest House (on the map). Vegetarian Momos, Nan bread, Dal Tadka was excellent. There is plenty of non veg including Tandoori options available....

Can you also please suggest a place to stay in Belgaum for one night?

Thanks again for the inputs!

Try Adarsh Palace.

Travel via Kolhapur as suggested by other Tripadvisor friends.

Further if you stay at Kolhapur instead of Belgaum, you have plenty of options.

Thanks for the suggestion. Also, do you know how much time does it take to drive from Bangalore to Kolhapur approximately?

Around 8 hours

Bengaluru to Mumbai now in 5 hours as govt plans green expressway

The distance between bengaluru and mumbai is 981.4 km and currently, the road travel takes around 16-17 hours.

Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari. (Photo: Hindustan Times)

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recently said that the Central government was planning green express highways between Mumbai and Bengaluru that would cut down the travel time to five hours. Similarly, the green express highways would shorten the travel time between Pune and Bengaluru to 3.5 to 4 hours.

The distance between Bengaluru and Mumbai is 981.4 km and currently, the road travel takes around 16-17 hours.

Speaking about infrastructure development, Nitin Gadkari said, “We are planning a green express highway between Mumbai and Bangalore."

It will be a 5 hours journey between Mumbai-Bangalore and 3.5 to 4 hours between Pune and Bangalore, Nitin Gadkari added. The Union minister said that the Mumbai-Pune Express Highway will take a turn from near the Ring Road of Pune and start as the highway towards Bangalore.

Nitin Gadkari said the decision has been taken to make 26 green express highways in the country in the next three years to reduce travel time. "In the next three years, we are building 26 green expressways," he said, adding that one can travel from Delhi to Dehradun,  Haridwar or Jaipur in two hours thereafter.

By the end of December 2022, the Union minister said, there will be new highways wherein travel time from Delhi to Chandigarh will be two-and-a-half hours, Delhi to Amritsar 4 hours, Delhi to Katra 6 hours, Delhi to Srinagar 8 hours and Delhi to Mumbai 12 hours, Delhi to Jaipur two hours and Chennai to Bangalore also two hours.

It used to earlier take 4.5 hours to travel from Meerut to Delhi but now people are coming in 40 minutes, Nitin Gadkari claimed.

"Under Narendra Modi's leadership before 2024, India's road infrastructure will be the same as that in the United States, I promise. There is no shortage of funds," Nitin Gadkari said, adding that the Central government will change the entire infrastructure of the country.

Discover the Quickest Ways to Reach Goa from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore

Introduction to goa:.

With beaches bathed in sunlight, lively nightlife and Portuguese heritage, Goa remains the favorite destination for vacationers seeking relaxation and adventure. If you are planning a trip from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata or Bangalore, then it is easy to get to Goa due to its well-developed transport network. This guide will look into the diverse modes of transportation available from these major Indian cities to Goa.

1. From Delhi To Goa:

The quickest way for someone who needs to go from New Delhi (Delhi) to Goa is by air. Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) located in Delhi has numerous airlines offering flights that connect with the one at Goa International Airport (GOI). That means that it will take you around 2 hours thirty minutes on board.

Alternatively, they can travel by train from New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) up to Madgaon Railway Station (MAO) or Thivim Railway Station (THVM) which are both found in Goa. There are several trains such as Rajdhani Express and Goa Sampark Kranti Express that ply between Delhi and Goa. Traveling by train is approximately 24-30 hours depending on the kind of the rail chosen.

Those visitors who would like traveling via road can choose different bus services or hire private taxis from among many others options offered in this direction. The distance between these two cities is approximately 1900 kilometers; therefore a trip by road consumes about thirty six hours dependent on traffic conditions and roads taken.

2. From Mumbai To Goa:

Air travel between Mumbai and Goa is also convenient. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), which serves Mumbai city connects well with several other airports including the one found in Goa known as Goa International Airport (GOI). This flight takes about an hour and a half.

Another option for going to Goa from Mumbai is the train. From Mumbai CST (CSTM) or Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), one can catch trains such as Konkan Kanya Express and Mandovi Express that goes straight to Madgaon Railway Station (MAO) or Thivim Railway Station (THVM) in Goa. If you take a train, it usually takes between 8-12 hours.

Most of the visitors travelling from Mumbai like using roads. There are also many bus services and private taxis available for this journey. The distance between these two cities is approximately 590 kilometers; therefore road trip consumes about twelve hours subject to traffic conditions and routes taken.

3. From Kolkata To Goa:

From Kolkata, there are direct flights to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) which serve travelers heading towards Goa International Airport (GOI). In addition to this, there are numerous airlines that fly between these two cities with the flight duration of around three hours.

The other alternative is travel by train from Kolkata all the way up to Goa. For example, Santragachi Vasco da Gama Express and Howrah Vasco da Gama Amaravati Express run on the railway lines connecting Kolkata Howrah Junction (HWH) with Madgaon Railway Station (MAO) in Goa. The journey by rail is typically covered within thirty six hours.

While it is possible to reach Goa from Kolkata by road, it's a long trip. However, there are buses and private taxis one can take for the journey but it covers a distance of approximately 1,900 kilometers and takes about 36-40 hours by road depending on traffic flow and direction.

4. From Bangalore to Goa:

The fastest way of getting to Goa from Bangalore is by air. An array of airlines operate several flights from Goa International Airport (GOI) which is well connected with Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) in Bangalore. The average flight duration is about 1.5-2 hours.

Alternatively, travelers may choose to go through train travel from Bangalore to Goa. Yesvantpur Vasco da Gama Express and Kacheguda Vasco da Gama Express are some of the trains that run between Madgaon Railway Station (MAO) in Goaand Bangalore Yesvantpur Junction (YPR). The journey by train takes around 12-14 hours.

Bangalore-Goa road trip is also one of the highly preferred means of transportation among tourists. For this type of a journey, there are many options available such as numerous bus services or hiring private cabs for transport purposes. The total distance separating the two cities is approximately 560 kilometers and again, this will depend on traffic snarl-ups experienced as well as the chosen route, taking around ten-twelve hours overland.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Mumbai is truly the spiritual place of all that belongs to India. Hot, dirty, crazy, beautiful, endless and inspiring! It is the most populous city in the country and there is a big divide between the rich and the poor. But, somehow, with this city’s “extremely wild” energy, it will make you want to keep coming back.

Overview of Mumbai (#mumbai travel blog)

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Mumbai (former also known as Bombay), is the capital of the state of Maharashtra – the most populous city in India, with a population of up to 21 million (as of 2022). With a total area of about 603.4 km² and Mumbai metropolitan region is 6,355 square kilometres (2,454 sq mi), Mumbai is considered the leading commercial and entertainment capital in India. Therefore, the city is also home to many important and prominent financial institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), BSE (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange), and National Stock Exchange of India (NSE)…

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Mumbai is located on Salsette Island, off the west coast of Maharashtra. Mumbai has attracted immigrants from all over India due to its many business opportunities and high standard of living, making the city a “mixed hot pot” of many communities and cultures. The city is home to the Hindi film and television industry, known as Bollywood, making Mumbai tourism most popular. Mumbai is also one of the rare cities to have a national park, Sanjay Gandhi National Park located within the city limits.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Mumbai is a fusion of iconic charm architectures of the old world and striking, flashy modern high-rises buildings, skyscrapers, modern and traditional culture and more. The city is known as the commercial capital of India, but there is so much more to it. Mumbai is all about art, history, culture, food, theatre, cinema, nightlife and more. Although Mumbai does not have many historical sites like other cities, it attracts a large number of tourists thanks to its excitement, difference and unique man-made beauty.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Not only is it one of the wealthiest cities in India, Mumbai is known as a place where the past and the present intersect. Indeed, when you are admiring the expensive and luxurious buildings, just a glance can immediately touch the long-standing historical sites, even the squalid slums next door.

When is the best time to visit Mumbai? (#mumbai travel blog)

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Mumbai has diverse climate, including 3 main seasons: winter, summer and rainy season. Summer is extremely hot and uncomfortable, so if you are not used to the harsh sun, you’d better go to Mumbai in the winter, it will be cool and not too cold.

Mumbai’s winter lasts from December to February next year and the best time to visit Mumbai is from October to March next year. At that time, the weather is quite pleasant, the day is cool and the night is a bit chilly, with little rain, suitable for sightseeing, outdoor and indoor activities as well.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Mumbai also has a few unique and interesting festivals, the biggest is Ganesh Chaturthi (or Vinayaka Chaturthi), a festival dedicated to the elephant-headed Hindu god of wisdom – Ganesha which takes place in August or September. There are also  . Elephanta Festival in mid-March, Banganga Festival in January and Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in February… make it possible to experience the unique culture of this colorful city.

How to get to Mumbai? (#mumbai travel guide)

The simplest way is by air. This is a big city and can also be considered a “brand” of India, so wherever you are, you can catch a flight to get there. Sometimes direct flights to Mumbai are cheaper than flying to Delhi, so you might want to consider starting your journey in Mumbai first.

Domestic flights from Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and others fly to Mumbai daily.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Those flying to Mumbai will arrive at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM). It is the second busiest beautiful airport in India, after Indira Gandhi Airport in Delhi. At the airport you will find ticket booths where you can book a prepaid taxi to your hotel. About INR 675 for an air-conditioned taxi ride to the Fort area, but air-conditioned taxis are also available for around INR 810. If you want to pre-book a private transfer, you can do so through Klook .

Or you can also go to Bombay by train or bus, which is a great stop after visit Goa or Kerala before you extend your journey north.

Getting around Mumbai (#mumbai guide)

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Getting from the airport to the center of Mumbai you can go by Ola or Uber. After get out of the arrival hall, go up to the parking tunnel P7 to catch an Uber or Ola, pay attention to the signs indicating where to catch Uber or where to catch Ola, Uber will not go to Ola platform to pick you up. Especially Uber drivers, they are quite patient to wait for you when you arrive without prompting… because the longer you wait, the more you will be charged for waiting, it’s true!

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

In Mumbai, the traffic is quite crazy, besides the traffic jam, the drivers are also quite liar, the loud horn sounds make you tired.

In India they drive on the left so it’s probably not safe to rent a self-drive car. So it’s best to go by public transport or taxi.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Metro: Regarding public transport, there is a metro system which is also quite convenient and SUPER CHEAP but if you go at off-hours, I think you should avoid it because it is very crowded.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Bus: This is also a popular means of transportation in Mumbai, cheaper than the subway but very crowded, especially at rush hours.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Taxi: In my opinion, it is not the first choice in Mumbai, if you have to take it, you also note to tell the driver to turn on the speedometer and follow it, remember to pay attention to google map to avoid being cheated.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

The best means of transport in my opinion is Uber but it is a bit more expensive than public transport.

A friend of mine warned that many drivers are very unkind, they once pick you up and then cancel the trip and then ask for money by bargaining, but I travel a lot and haven’t met any case, so you can rest assured.

Rickshaw: Like a tuk-tuk, bargain before you go.

Where to go & what to do in Mumbai? (#mumbai blog)

Gateway of india and gulf front (#mumbai travel blog).

Address: Apollo Bandar, Colaba, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400001, India

Your journey to the city of Mumbai will not be complete if you miss the opportunity to visit a magnificent structure like the Gateway of India. India Gate was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. It is also a famous spot that attracts many tourists to Mumbai and has become a tourist icon here. The Gateway of India is located near the coast, behind is the pier and opposite is the Taj Mahal hotel – a majestic, luxurious and extremely magnificent 5-star hotel.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

This work is designed in the extremely impressive Indo-Saracenic architecture by Scottish architect George Wittet. The foundation stone for the Gateway of India was laid on 31 March 1911 and completed in 1924. The archway of the gate was made of basalt stone, 26 meters high, connected to four turrets and decorated with mesh lattice carved on the stone, atop of the top there is a large circular oil lamp with a diameter of 3.6m. You can go to this Indian gate in the early morning or evening to admire the beautiful scenery and take pictures to capture one-of-a-kind moment at this place.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

On big holidays or important occasions, this lamp is lit up again. In addition, on the door of the work is also engraved the names of more than 90,000 soldiers who died. The Gateway of India is most beautiful when the sun rises. Early in the morning is the time when the air is freshest, cool, empty, the sun rising and shining on the gate is extremely beautiful. In addition, in the morning, people feed pigeons, they look very nice, crowded…

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

You can also experience a boat trip around the harbor. Boats only leave the dock when full of passengers. Ticket price is about 80 INR/hour, with about 10 people sitting on the deck enjoying the atmosphere here.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus

Address: Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Area, Fort, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400001, India

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

As the most famous railway station in India and also an iconic landmark of Mumbai, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus has seen the city go through many important periods in its history. The station was designed by Frederick William Stevens in the Italian Gothic renaissance style, construction started in 1878 and completed after 10 years.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus features a unique arched structure, intricately carved motifs on small towers and doorways. This work is a harmonious combination of British and Indian cultures, creating a unique and unique architecture in the world. That’s why in 2004, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus was recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage and attracts millions of tourists every year.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Mumbai has some of the most dangerous and busiest train journeys in the country. I’ve also watched a few rush hour videos on Youtube. Uhm, although it looks fun, it’s dangerous.

Taj Mahal Palace (#mumbai travel guide)

The famous hotel right next to Gateway of India: The architecture from the British era, very majestic. A 5-star hotel, very famous as a place to visit or stay in Mumbai, in addition it is also famous for having experienced a terrorist attack, the year of 2019, there was a movie about that terrorist attack.

Haji Ali Dargah Mosque

Address: Dargah Rd, Haji Ali, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India Hours: 5:30AM–9:45PM

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

One of the most famous and revered mosques in Mumbai. Haji Ali is designed in Islamic architectural style and has white domes and beautiful minarets around. So it looks like a white mansion nestled on a small island far from the shores of the bustling city.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

This is a temple located in the middle of the sea of Mumbai, connected by a small road, when the tide rises, the way is disappear. The temple is unique in its location, it’s a bit messy inside, not really beautiful, but because of its prime location, it can’t be missed.

Rajabai Clock Tower (#mumbai blog)

Address: WRHJ+W24, Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil Marg, Mantralaya, Fort, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400032, India Hours: 9AM–10:45PM

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

The clock tower is not far from the CST station, but the tower is located in the port and is forbidden to enter so it can only be viewed from the outside. So when I come, I come back right away, I didn’t even to take pictures when I look at it.

Colaba Causeway Street

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

The shopping street of Mumbai. I came in the morning so it was deserted and no store opened. The stores here started to open very late, around 10 am. If you want to experience the bustling atmosphere or shopping you should come here.

Cybertecture Egg

This is one of the interesting stops that you cannot miss when you have the opportunity to set foot in this bustling city of Mumbai. Cyber Tecture Egg is the most special egg-shaped building in the world that attracts many visitors to admire. This building has an area of 32,000 m2, is a unique combination of visual architecture and environmentally friendly intelligent energy use and regeneration.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Cyber Tecture Egg is like a jewel of Mumbai. Because when coming here, visitors will not be able to help but admire an architectural work that brings beauty nowhere else. Especially, when the night comes, you will be overwhelmed by the shimmering, fanciful but equally luxurious scene of the lights shining on the glass of the building.

Marine Drive

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

This is a place chosen by many tourists to rest, relax, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, leaving behind the hustle and bustle of the modern city. Marine Drive is a 4.5km coastal road from the Nariman Point area to the foothills of Malabar. Nicknamed the Queen’s necklace, Marine Drive is attracting more and more tourists to visit because of the shimmering beauty of the street lights that illuminate at night like a pearl necklace.

When coming here, you will admire many impressive landscapes, beautiful beaches, enjoy attractive street food and participate in bustling festivals by the sea. You can go to Marine Drive in the afternoon to enjoy the romantic sunset and enjoy the fresh air after a tiring day of work.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

This is one of the most peaceful places in the bustling city of Mumbai. Marine drive is embracing a beautiful stretch of Arabian coast. At night, this stretch of road is lit up to look like a pearl necklace. Therefore, this place is likened to “The Queen Necklace”.

Shree Siddhivinayak Temple

Address: 2R8J+P4J, SK Bole Marg, Prabhadevi, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400028, India Hours: 5:30AM–9PM

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Siddhivinayak Temple is one of the biggest and most beautiful temples in Mumbai. This temple has existed for more than 2 centuries and has become a very important place of worship in India. This temple was built by Laxman Vithu and Deubai Patil, dedicated to the god Ganesh, an elephant-headed god of Hinduism.

mumbai to bangalore road trip blog

Inside the temple there is a god statue of Shri Ganesha, 2.5m wide and made from a large black rock. When coming here, visitors not only admire the unique beauty of the temple’s architecture but also have the opportunity to admire the majestic natural landscape around the temple.

What I look forward to, most curious about when coming to Mumbai is do they have their own area to visit? Such as visit the movie set, the boulevard of fame for example… but it will be a bit disappointing because the answer is NO. Although there were tours to visit those film locations, I didn’t find anything very impressive.
