Five countries are currently on a visa-exempt arrangement with the government of Oman. Passport holders from GCC countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates) do not require a visa to enter Oman. Unless you are from any of these five nations, you will need a visa to enter the country.

Extending your visa for Oman

It is a tourist visa for a visit to Oman for a person who is from South Korea and Brunei. It is valid for 1 month with a stay validity of 30 months. There is no fee for this visa. This visa cannot be changed to a work visa while inside the sultanate of Oman. Non-Group1 nationals are eligible if the spouse or child of accompanying Group1 nationals.

It is a tourist visa for a visit to Oman by a person who is a spouse or a child of a dependent holding 26A or 26N visa subtype. It is valid for 1 month with a stay validity of 10 days. The visa fee is OMR 5.000 which is non-refundable. Non-Group1 nationals are eligible if the spouse or child of accompanying Group1 nationals.

Tourist Visa 30DFAM (26F type)

It is a tourist visa for a visit to Oman by a person who is a spouse or a child of a dependent holding 26B or 26M visa subtype. It is valid for 1 month with a stay validity of 10 days. The visa fee is OMR 20.000 which is non-refundable. This visa cannot be changed to a work visa while inside the Sultanate of Oman. Tourist Visa 30DFAMC (26G type)

This type of tourist visa is for a person who is not a NZ national, but is the spouse or child of a NZ national, and who is accompanied by that NZ national. It is valid for 1 month with a stay validity of 30 days. The visa fee is OMR 20.000 which is non-refundable. This visa cannot be changed to a work visa while inside the Sultanate of Oman. Non-Group1 nationals are eligible if the spouse or child of accompanying Group1 nationals.

Tourist Visa 30DFAMD(26H type)

This type of tourist visa is for a person who is not a South Korea or Brunei national, but is the spouse or child of a South Korea or Brunei national, and who is accompanied by that South Korea or Brunei. It is valid for 1 month with a stay validity of 30 days. The visa fee is OMR 20.000 which is non-refundable. This visa cannot be changed to a work visa while inside the Sultanate of Oman. Non-Group1 nationals are eligible if the spouse or child of accompanying Group1 nationals.

Tourist Visa D1M(26J type)

This type of Oman tourist visa is by a diplomatic passport holder who is on the DIP1M list of nationalities. It is valid for 1 month with a stay validity of 30 days. There is no fee for this visa. Applicants must hold a diplomatic passport.

Tourist Visa D3M(26K type)

This type of Oman tourist visa is by a diplomatic passport holder who is on the DIP3M list of nationalities. It is valid for 1 month with a stay validity of 3 months. There is no fee for this visa. Applicants must be a citizen of one of the D3M countries.

Tourist Visa D6M(26L type)

This type of Oman tourist visa is by a diplomatic passport holder who is on the DIP6M list of nationalities. It is valid for 1 month with a stay validity of 6 months. There is no fee for this visa. Applicants must be a citizen of one of the D3M countries.

Tourist Visa 30DCG1(26M type)

This type of Oman tourist visa is for a Visit to Oman (30 days) by a person who is in the list of allowed nationalities and has a valid Schengen visa or a valid visa to one of the following countries (USA, UK, Canada, Australia or Japan). For Moroccan nationals, only a valid Schengen Visa issued in Morocco is applicable. It is valid for 1 month with a stay validity of 30 days. The visa fee is OMR 20.000 which is non-refundable. Tourist Visa 10DCG1(26N type)

This type of Oman tourist visa is for a Visit to Oman (30 days) by a person who is in the list of allowed nationalities and has a valid Schengen visa or a valid visa to one of the following countries (USA, UK, Canada, Australia or Japan). For Moroccan nationals, only a valid Schengen Visa issued in Morocco is applicable. It is valid for 1 month with a stay validity of 10 days. The visa fee is OMR 5.000 which is non-refundable. Applicants must hold either: a valid Schengen Visa; OR a Valid Residency Visa or Multi-Entry Visa from Great Britain, Australia, U.S.A, Canada or Japan. This visa cannot be changed to a work visa while inside the Sultanate of Oman.

Tourist Visa 14 days(26O type)

This is a 14 days free tourist visa for people who belong to G1 special countries. This visa is valid for one month with a stay validity of 10 days.

Tourist Visa 14 days(26P type)

This is a Free Entry visa to the Sultanate for 14 Days (A companion to a person holding a nationality from G1 Special). This visa is valid for one month with a stay validity of 10 days.

Documents for sponsored Tourist visa

The following document are required for a sponsored Tourist visa

• Passport must be valid for at least 6 months on entry to Oman.
• A photograph of the applicants (digital).
• A copy of the applicant’s passport.
• A typed and stamped letter from the sponsor.
• The visa application requires valid supporting documents.

Tourist visa Extension

The following document are required for a sponsored tourist visa

• First time Extension of Stay can be done by the applicant. Second and subsequent extensions can only be done by visiting a DGPCS office.
• Extension of stay allowed is the same as the original visa.
• Extend your visa before it expires. 
• If the visitor overstays in Oman, there is a fine of OMR 10.000 for each day of overstay.

Other Notable Points

• Must be outside the Sultanate of Oman at time of application.
• Must be sponsored by an approved Oman sponsor.
• Must not have other current Oman visa.
• Possession of a valid visa does not guarantee that a traveler will be granted entry to Oman. Entry to Oman is at the discretion of the Royal Oman Police officer at the port of entry.

With the revised rules on visit visa extension taking effect, travel agencies are now offering a number of options for renewal. An industry expert explains the different categories and the best budget-friendly option.

Raheesh Babu, chief operating officer of online travel agency Musafir.com, noted that visitors will fall into three categories in the new scenario.

“The first category includes people who need to renew their visas and need to exit the country. In this case, people can leave the country via bus and travel to Oman. Thereafter, the UAE tourist visa is applied for, and once this is issued a person can return to the UAE,” Babu said and pointed out that a bus trip to Oman is the cheapest way to renew a tourist visa.

In this case, people will need a visa to enter Oman, which will take up to 2 days to process. Once the trip is arranged, the UAE visa is usually issued the same day.

“Travel for a visa change by bus to Oman is the most economical, but the prices may vary. The entire process takes 10 to 12 hours,” he noted.

“Under the second category are people who can still renew their UAE tourist visa without exiting. Currently, visa change within the country is available only in Dubai. However, this is only available until the Dubai immigration updates its system,” Babu said.

“Lastly, airport-to-airport (A to A) by flight is also possible. To renew your tourist visa, you can exit to a neighbouring country for a few hours and fly back to the UAE,” he added.

• 3. December 17, 2020 As stated in Gulf News, individuals entering UAE from Oman via land borders need to adhere to certain regulations. They should possess a Dubai tourist visa with insurance and produce a negative PCR test certificate at the border. As stated by UAE's NCEMA (National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority) a Diffractive Phase Interferometry (DPI) test will be conducted at the border. If this is negative the individual can enter UAE. In cases of a positive DPI result the traveller will have to return to Oman and conduct a PCR test which shows a negative test result. Additionally, all travelers from Oman need to download the Al Hosn app, sign a pledge at the border and strictly adhere to the Quarantine measures laid out in whichever emirate they are visiting. • 4. December 01, 2020 Due to the COVID19 outbreak, we have stopped facilitating Oman Visa Run. Due to this we have no details about individual visa run done at UAE - oman border. Individuals who have applied for the pre-paid express visa can get their visa printed at the border. All you need to do is email them the document and they will print it for a charge of roughly 30 to 50 AED.

None of the routes mentioned below are in anyway superior or better than the others. It all simmers down to the route that adheres within your available time limit, your ability and consent to go the distance and your starting point. The most commonly taken routes are:

Wadi Hatta – Al Wajajah Border

Dubai and Sharjah residents who are doing an Oman Visa run use this crossing point the most. Currently, the Hatta E44 is closed for expats so make a left turn at Al Madam-Al Malaiha road. Make a right turn at the signpost ‘Shawka’ to the E102 Sharjah-Kalba road. After driving for approximately 30 kilometers, make a right on to the E44 Hatta Road. You will get to the Al Wajajah border post roughly 3 kilometers after you cross the border. Park and complete the necessary paperwork before driving along.

Kalba – KatmatMilahah Border

Unless you have any good reason to visit the northern side of Oman, its not a highly preferred crossing point, especially for Dubai residents. It can be accessed through the E99 from the east coast of Sharjah and is the northern crossing point to mainland Oman. However, paperwork is really easy at this crossing point with the entire process taking a mere 20 minutes or so. Border guards are very friendly but do not permit rented cars to drive through unless they possess police permission to take the car over the Omani border.

Mezyad – Hafeet Border Al Ain

Commonly used by Abu Dhabi and Al Ain residents and is the best route to take if you are driving to the south of Oman or to Nizwa. The distance between both border posts is only 1.3 kilometers making it a walkable distance during winter season.

Khatam Al Shukhla Al Ain

Frequently used by heavy vehicles like trucks, this route is situated north-east of Al Ain and is preferred by some expats due to its quieter atmosphere. However, you will have to drive more than 30 kilometers across the border to get to the Oman border post at Al Wadi Jizi making it one of the longest drives for the Oman Visa run. If you enjoy long, quiet drives and have the time at your disposal you can take this route.

Al Dhara – Bukha (Musandam)

A roughly 2-hour long lovely drive from Downtown Dubai, drive through the E311 that’s adjoined to the E11. This is one of the scenic routes as you will be driving along the Ras Al Khaimah coastline until you get to the border. Once there, park, walk across to the Oman border and get your stamp.

Other crossing points

You might have heard of other border crossing routes like Hili-Al Ain, Hatta E44 and Al Madheef-Buraimi. None of these are opened to expats and only allow GCC Nationals.
