Great price and easy booking

Great price and easy booking Better price than several other web sites for the same flights. Many thanks for the excellent service.

Date of experience : April 13, 2024

Good but needs some improvement.

Great booking. I just wish the luggage allowance would be better shown on the flight details. i.e. the number of luggage allowed/included with the booking etc.

I booked flights from Manchester to Lahore. The booking was straightforward, and confirmation was sent swiftly. However, the return flight had been cancelled 36 hours before departure, with it being the weekend and the flight due to be catched on Monday morning we contacted travel up. I spoke with David Daniel, who kindly assisted us and reassured us that i would be booked onto the next available flight without extra costs and the same date I was due to arrive before cancellation. The ticket was updated and emailed alongside a phone call within a few hours.Excellent and professional service by him would definitely be used again for future flights.

Beware. Travelup don't refund if anything goes wrong. Absolutely disgusting behaviour by BA too…

Absolutely disgusting behaviour by BA who downgraded my father from Business to Economy and failed to refund him. Instead paid the £1k refund to Travelup in August 2023. After 4 months of emails back and forth with Travelup, they have still not paid the refund and insist they will deduct £50 admin fee. No commitment or assurance on whether we will ever be paid. Tried to escalate with a manager but apparently he's on long term leave and no one else is covering for him or has any power to process a simple transaction. Now April 24, over a year since the flight and this has still not been resolved.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! It’s taken a long while but I have just won my case against this company and will be receiving a refund and compensation for the flights that were cancelled. They will do anything to not pay out and they even refused me my legal right to have the phone call conversation’s. They are now being investigated by the ICO. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING THROUGH THEM.

Booking Help

Just a brief reminder to all passengers not to forget to re-confirm your flights 72 hours prior to your departure from the UK and again prior to your return flight. There has been a spate of small timing changes by some of the airlines, and it is important that you remember to check, as you do not want to miss a flight or find yourself running across the terminal in a panic.

General FAQs

What is an e-ticket, can i change the details of my booking, can i pre-book my flight seats, how do i cancel my flight ticket, my name is spelt incorrectly on my flight ticket, what can i do, how long does it take to process a refund for my flight, how do i log a comment or complaint.

You may prefer to post your comment or complaint, if so our address is as follows:

ESTA regulations for USA travel

U.S Customs and Border Protection have changed the procedure in applying for an ESTA and real-time approvals are no longer available.

It is the passenger’s responsibility to ensure they have made their application and have the authority to travel beforehand.

All passengers travelling under the VWP who do not have ESTA authorisation will not be permitted entry onto any flight by their carrier. We therefore highly recommend that travellers apply for their ESTA as soon as they've made arrangements for travel to the US.

Is my holiday protected if my chosen airline goes under?

What is a one-way combinable, and how can i benefit from it, can i e-mail travelup for a travel quote.

How do I receive my tickets?

Where can i find airport parking and lounges, changes to hand baggage restrictions.

Below is a guide to the requirements that will be in place as well as advice to help passengers pass through the security check as quickly as possible.

Liquids that cannot be placed inside the re-sealable bag must be packed into the hold luggage and checked in. Liquids of any amount can still be carried in luggage checked into the aircraft hold.

*Any other solutions and items of similar consistency

Essential medicines and baby food may be permitted in larger quantities above the 100ml limit, but will be subject to the authentication that is already currently required.

Pushchairs, walking aids and wheelchairs are permitted but will be screened.

Laptops and other large electrical items (e.g. a large hairdryer) will still have to be removed from cabin baggage and screened separately. A laptop bag will be regarded as your one item that is allowed in the cabin.

All items of luggage which do not fit in the permitted cabin baggage size (maximum length 56 cm, width of 45 cm and depth of 25 cm) must be checked in to be placed in the aircraft hold. Musical instruments will, as an exception, be allowed as a second item of cabin baggage, but will need to be screened and passengers should check with their airlines if special arrangements (e.g. purchasing an extra seat) for these large instruments will be required.

Passengers are asked to bear in mind the following advice to help make their passage through the airport as efficient and comfortable as possible:

*Check any queries you have with your airport or airline before travelling to the airport.

Duty free / departure lounge purchases may take on board liquid items of any size that are purchased after the security check in the departure lounge (sometimes referred to as 'Airside'). Duty free or similar purchases will be given to you in a special sealed bag. Do not open this bag until you have reached your final destination. You should also retain your proof of purchase throughout your journey. You will be required to show it at all transfer points. Please note: restrictions apply to duty free purchases made on return journeys where passengers change flights at an EU airport.

Travelling from an airport in the EU, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland: The arrangements outlined above will apply, except that larger cabin bags will be permitted on a transitional basis until April 2007.

Local arrangements will apply.

If your journey involves changing flights at any EU airport, special restrictions apply. You may only take duty free purchases through the security check point at your connecting airport if they have been purchased at another EU airport, or on board an aircraft operated by an EU carrier. You will need to show proof of purchase to demonstrate this. Purchases from other airports or on board other airlines may only be carried as hold baggage on the connecting flight.

What is my baggage allowance?

If you are travelling with two different airlines, or the weight limits differ from one connecting flight to the other, then you will be required to take the lesser amount.

How can I pay for my Travelup Flight/holiday?

“Sad to say I would never use them again”

Sad to say I would never use them again. I had to change the date within 72 hours because of a work meeting. When I tried to rebook our hotel, the price was now $900+ more for the same 7 days. I checked directly with the hotel and their rate was $560 less than Travel Up. I told Jacob to match it or cancel it. After a few more blah blah emails from Jacob, I finally got canceled. A rip off and not at all a nice experience.

I totally agree. It would be good if the director read the complaints and made efforts to resolve them. But I'm not optimistic that complaints will ever be resolved by the director, or any other employee...

What is the ideal uptravel for a TJ?

on up travel

  • Add to quote

Seems like there's been quite a bit of discussion lately about uptravel. I'd like to hear everyone's opinions. Basically, how much room is between your bumpstops? Are you happy with it? I think this could be informative for anyone setting-up suspension/shocks.

on up travel

I guess I'll be the first to reply... I have 2.25" uptravel on my back axle since the RC 2.5" lift and I'm not happy at all. I never expected to actually lose uptravel after installing a lift kit. I'm bottoming out the rear shocks too often and I know it's only a matter of time before I join the "Blown RC shocks club." RC recommends 31" tires with this lift, and the fact is I could actually run 33's easily (at least on the back) since it has such little uptravel. I'm currently researching the proper shock length to get back in the 3.25-3.5" range that I lean towards being ideal.

on up travel

asknight said: I have 2.25" uptravel on my back axle since the RC 2.5" lift and I'm not happy at all. Click to expand...

on up travel

RC 2.5" springs and shocks. 4.5" of up travel on all 4 shocks after all rubber bumpers were removed. 4" at the bump stop. Just right IMO. When I outboard the shocks, I'll retain the up travel amount and have more wonderful droop that I need.

What is stock as the baseline? I'm pretty sure it's around 1.5" (not much!)

on up travel

Yep, about that. One drawback to spacer lifts, they don't improve travel. I set my bumpstops to prevent any rubbing. i.e. The most travel possible. Anything less is ... less.

I set mine at 3in of up and a hole lot of down works great for me.

very true haha thats why our springs are great, I have yet to get mine to unseat, how about you?

not unless your coil will bind with that much uptravel:shhh:

but back to the origional topic... the east coast guys will tell ya 4" oe was 4" but if your gonna go fast offroad, you better have some good progressive bumpstops with 4" of uptravel the key to speed offroad is uptravel and shocks/bumpstops but between 4-7 is good, less than four and you will hit them on thing like speed bumps and such, more than 6/7 on a ten inch shock and your really loosing droop

You guys did hit the bottle early. Draw a picture. Lift coils go along with the same shock and bump stop recommendation. If it makes you feel any better I have rustys springs sitting in my garage (replacing my BB) hahahaha

Up travel past a "streetable" amount of 4-5" is only useful if you're jumping your jeep or if you feel that, for some reason, you need more up travel. Remember, more up travel = that much less droop. And if you want to jump your vehicle that bad, go buy a Raptor or something with IFS.

Not to hijack.. what is an easy way to measure up travel.. Thanks in advance..

Well, you obviously want the bump stop distance to be less than the shock up travel. You want your bump stop, not your shock, to act as a bump stop.

well I know that... but the guys that add a bb with bumpstops seem to forget... i was just saying that for those that are not correctly bumpstopped

Cool thanks guys.. Thats what is was trying to see if my stops or shocks hit first.. Now that I know... DUH.. MAKES PERFECT SENSE.. Thanks again..

I run a 3" lift and I have 4" of up travel to the start of the bumpstop. I am not sure how much the bumpstop is supposed to compress but I would guess maybe a 3/4". So as Unlimited defined it I have 4 and 3/4" and I have never bottomed out while driving normally so it is fine for the street.

If it's still unclear: The bump stops are there to prevent two things: 1) Your tires from hitting your fender and 2) your shocks from bottoming out. You want your bump stops to fully limit up travel before either of these happen. One may happen before the other--it all just depends on your setup.

on up travel

It depends on if you like to go fast or crawl rocks. uptravel does little to help with rock crawling, but will really help soak up the whoops.

ah if only the rc shock bodys were a little more compact.. then I could stuff these tires into the fender more... actually Ill see what the clearance looks like when my 35's come in. Im sure any uptravel you have past what you have clearance for is useless, and if you dont want to lift more then you have to deal with it, but Im sure somewhere around 5-6 would be pretty nice. I think I only have about 4" uptravel, but Im bumpstopped for the stock fenders.. I have metalcloaks as of lastnight so Im gonna see if I can change the bumpstops some and get some more uptravel.

Its not just the amount of travel in the suspension, be it compression or extension. Its about the quality of travel....the ability of the suspension to absorb the energy generated. This is done by the shocks and bump stops. In general most TJs are not very well equipped to deal with a 3"1-37"+ moving around at high speeds. You don't necessary need FEET of suspension travel to deal with severe terrain at speed, and in some ways it is harder to control a tire over 2 feet of travel than 8-10". For a great example of limited travel vehicles that deal very well with high off-road speeds look at most of the winning Dakar vehicles. Most of those vehicles, though HIGHLY custom, do not use a lot of travel, and I believe in FIA they are limited by the rules also. The TJ can only be pushed so fast before things really start going wrong. Once you upgrade the shock and bumpstops to something better suited to go-fast desert driving, the axle housing tend to give out. Once you upgrade the axle housings you will start to fail the frame itself. It just doesn't have the torsional rigidity it needs to deal with high speeds over big bumps. The next step is to birdcage the vehicle, and then in my opinion its not really the same vehicle any more. TJs have about 3.5-4" of compression travel from the factory. Ideally 5-6" of compression travel out of a 9-10" travel 2.0-2.5 remote reservoir starts to really make a difference in high speed handling. Add in a 1.5"-2" travel hydro-pneumatic bumpstop and you will really be able to pound on the thing......right up to the point the axle housings will bend. Once you beef up the axle housings you will start to notice the flex in the frame itself. At this point you won't be going as fast as a dedicated desert car, but not many people will be able to keep up.......this is all dependent on if you can drive a short wheelbase vehicle off-road at those speeds! The 94" wheelbase does not lend itself that well to high speed use, especially since most TJs are built rather heavy and a little too tall.

Anyone have a stock TJ that can take some measurements? I can probably take some in a little bit here if no one else can.

The compression travel would be measured at hard metal contact. The factory rubber bumpstop WILL compress up into the little cup under a hard hit. The factory rubber bump stops actually do a pretty decent job at making the suspension a little bit progressive for the last 1-1.5"......at least until the point they crack, fall out, or get mashed enough. Any D44 factory equipped FRONT axle ( IE Rubicons ) had a steel pad welded on the lower spring cup that takes away a little compression travel. I think it was 3/8" thick if I am remembering correctly. I have heard a few different tails on why its there, some say for tire contact, others say for track-bar clearance with the bigger front differential housing. There are also a LOT of different springs from Jeep. There is some variance in the height of a stock jeep depending on the options and what front springs where installed at the factory. I don't think all vehicles always got the spring they where suppose to. Hard top and hard door optioned vehicles generally sit a little lower, LJs sit a little lower because of the extra weight, A/C effects it, cruise control, etc.

I've got about 5" front uptravel, and 6" rear uptravel. That's on 5.5" lift springs (sagged a little). Got a lot of measurements from folks with 2-3" lifts... how about hearing from some folks with some taller lifts?

I just put in new 3" springs in tonight, and with a 1" bump stop extension I now have ~3" uptravel, measured at ride height. this measurement is from the edge of the bump stop to where it would contact, not the cup. Some bump stops are very inflexible and others aren't, so how can you do an apples to apple comparison if you don't count from the point of bump stop impact?

The compression travel would be measured at hard metal contact. The factory rubber bumpstop WILL compress up into the little cup under a hard hit. Click to expand...

To go a little bit further on what I was trying to say in my earlier post in the thread... I measured all over my Jeep before I put my RC 2.5" lift on. I had ~3.25-3.5" uptravel on the front and 3" on the rear with my stock springs/bumpstops (4cyl soft top TJ). The 6cylinder springs/shocks in the RC kit only gives me 2.25" uptravel on the rear which is limited by the shocks. ~5.5" is available between the factory bumpstops and the spring pad on the axle. When I put in 2" bumpstop extensions, I'll be back to 3-3.25" on the rear after cutting the external jounce bumpers off the shocks. I was hoping for more, but at this point I'll gladly take every bit I can get. I haven't said it yet, but my hunch is that with only 2.25" of uptravel available in the rear allowing it to bottom out so easily, the progressive (115psi initial) nature of the springs are not able to get into the "standard" compression zone of the springs before bottoming.

U.S. issues travel warning for Israel with Iran attack believed to be imminent and fear Gaza war could spread

By Debora Patta , Tucker Reals

Updated on: April 13, 2024 / 5:25 PM EDT / CBS News

Update: Iran launched drone attacks against Israel on Saturday. Read CBS News'  latest coverage here .

Tel Aviv  — Israel is bracing for a worst-case scenario that U.S. officials believe could materialize within just hours — the possibility of a direct attack on Israeli soil by Iran in retaliation for a strike almost two weeks ago that killed seven Iranian military officers. Iran has vowed to take revenge for Israel killing its commanders, who were hit by an April 1 strike on the Iranian embassy in Syria's capital.

Two U.S. officials told CBS News that a major Iranian attack against Israel was expected as soon as Friday, possibly to include more than 100 drones and dozens of missiles aimed at military targets inside the country. Sources have told CBS News the retaliation could include attacks carried out both by Iranian forces, and proxy groups around the region that it has been funneling additional arms to for weeks.

The officials said it would be challenging for the Israelis to defend against an attack of that magnitude, and while they held out the possibility that the Iranians could opt for a smaller-scale attack to avoid a dramatic escalation, their retaliation was believed to be imminent.

Asked Friday how imminent he believes an attack is, President Biden responded, "I don't want to get into secure information, but my expectation is sooner than later." The president urged Iran not to move forward, saying his message to Tehran was: "Don't."

Tehran has not indicated publicly how or when it will return fire, so it's unclear how far Iran's leaders will go. If they decide to carry out a direct attack on Israel, there's fear it could blow Israel's ongoing war against Iranian ally Hamas up into a much wider regional conflict.

With the Iranian retaliation expected at any time, the U.S. State Department on Thursday warned Americans in Israel not to travel outside major cities, which are better protected from incoming rocket fire by the country's Iron Dome missile defense system. The latest guidance noted that travel by U.S. government employees in Israel could be further restricted with little notice as things develop in the tinderbox region.

"Whoever harms us, we will harm them," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Thursday as he visited troops at an Israel Defense Forces airbase. "We are prepared … both defensively and offensively."

Iran-Burning Flags Of The U.S. And Israel

On Saturday, all U.S. embassies in the Middle East were put on high alert and required to hold emergency action committee meetings. Diplomats in Lebanon and Israel were specifically told not to travel to certain areas within those countries.

Sima Shine, a security expert and former official with Israel's national intelligence agency Mossad, told CBS News it was a dangerous moment for the region, and the "most worried" she has been. She said anxiety over an all-out war was likely just as high "on both sides, in Israel and in Iran."

If Iran does choose to strike Israel directly, it could involve a complex missile and drone attack similar to the one Iranian forces launched against a Saudi oil facility in 2019 .

"They will try to do it on the military or some military asset," Shine predicted. "But the question will be the damage. If there would be many injured people, killed or injured … I think it has the potential for a huge escalation."

Iran- International Jerusalem Day Rally In Tehran

Shine stressed, however, that she still believes neither side actually wants a regional conflict.

U.S. "really trying to avoid war"

The U.S. sent a senior general to Israel this week to coordinate with the close American ally on any response it might make to an Iranian attack. Speaking Friday on "CBS Mornings," America's top military officer said, "we're really trying to avoid war."

"This is part of the dialogue that I have with my counterparts within the region, to include the Israeli chief of defense, who I talked to yesterday," said Joint Chiefs chairman Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Jr., adding that the U.S. military was "doing things not only to prevent a war, but at the same time, one of my primary things is to make sure all the forces in the region are protected."

"My role, as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, is to plan and prepare," Brown said. "That's one thing we do very well."

Brown's Israeli counterpart, Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, "completed a comprehensive situational assessment on the readiness of the IDF for all scenarios," Israel's military said Friday.

"The IDF is very strongly prepared, both offensively and defensively, against any threat," Halevi was quoted as saying in the statement. "The IDF continues to monitor closely what is happening in Iran and different arenas, constantly preparing to deal with existing and potential threats in coordination with the United States Armed Forces."

The IDF said the visiting U.S. general, Central Command chief Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, was taking part in the IDF's situational assessment.

The dilemma for Iran, said Israeli expert Shine, is to figure out how to deliver its promised response to Israel's attack in Syria, but in a way that does not lead to further escalation. Likewise, Shine said Israel could choose to show restraint when it responds to whatever Iran eventually does.

If either side gets the balance wrong, the consequences for the region, and even the world, could be dire.

Now Arriving at an Airport Lounge Near You: Peloton Bikes, Nap Pods and Caviar Service

In recent months, a handful of exclusive credit card lounges have opened in airports in the United States. More are coming this year.

The interior of a two-story airport lounge with chairs and tables, colorful wall art and brightly lit bar.

By Christine Chung

A handful of new lounges opened by credit card issuers, including Capital One and American Express, have recently landed in airports across the United States, promising posh spots of refuge for select travelers awaiting their flights. At La Guardia Airport, caviar service will be available for pre-order. At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, travelers can get complimentary massages, and at Denver International Airport, there are nap pods. In addition to amenities, the new lounges provide an ambience reminiscent of a luxury hotel lobby, both in interior design and scale, and fit several hundred people at a time.

“Lounges have certainly gotten busier, so we’ve expanded our footprint,” said Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, which in February opened its largest Centurion lounge, at 26,000 square feet at Hartsfield-Jackson , bringing its total number of lounges in the United States to 14.

Broadly, there are three types of airport lounges available to travelers: airline operated; shared-use spaces that aren’t limited to one airline or frequent flier status (think Priority Pass); and credit card lounges. Many are operated in partnership with lounge development companies.

For more than a decade, American Express was the only credit card issuer with lounges in the United States. That changed last year, when Chase Sapphire and Capital One each opened locations at major airports across the country, with plans to unveil a handful more in the coming years.

The proliferation is driven in part by changing demographics and travel patterns of fliers today. This year may set a record for the number of air travelers, with an estimated 4.7 billion people expected to fly globally. According to a survey published last May by the polling firm Morning Consult, younger travelers are more inclined than older generations to book travel with credit card loyalty programs, and those in the Gen Z age group, in particular, have signaled a declining loyalty to airline frequent flier programs.

While credit card companies saw opportunities to expand their brand awareness with lounges, the facilities also provide additional benefits to card members who pay hundreds of dollars in annual membership fees. Card fees range from $395 a year for a Capital One Venture X to $695 for an American Express Platinum.

Here are the latest highlights of new credit card lounges from around the country.

Seeing the total eclipse from 33,000 feet

Despite the pilot’s best efforts, delta’s eclipse flight didn’t offer passengers the best view of totality.

on up travel

Update: Days after this story published, Delta Air Lines said flight 1010 veered off the path of the totality when air traffic control denied requests to make special maneuvers intended to give passengers the best view.

SOMEWHERE OVER ARKANSAS — As skywatchers gathered across North America on Monday to peer up at a total solar eclipse, a plane full of Delta Air Lines passengers hoped to get a unique view from above the clouds.

But despite the efforts of the pilots on the route from Dallas to Detroit, a glimpse of totality proved elusive for many of the people who had reserved a spot on a flight that promised special maneuvers to get everyone a peek.

Passengers crowded near windows as the plane made a series of turns. However, the angle of the sun in the sky through much of the flight meant it was difficult to see much at all without craning your neck. Questions of “Did you see it?” bounced around the plane.

Kyle Carter, 40, a stay-at-home dad and private pilot from Orlando, said he didn’t see much of the actual eclipse during the flight, but he was happy with what he experienced.

“What I wanted to see, more than the actual eclipse itself, was just the shadow racing toward us from behind,” he said. “I did see that. You could see the darkness come towards us.”

Attorney Scot Kees and his daughter Gabrielle, 8, came from Atlanta for the flight. He said they “got a sliver” of the eclipse.

“Even though we didn’t get it completely, it was a fun community experience,” he said. He pointed out that clouds were an issue for many on the ground, so he’s not sure he would have seen more if he’d traveled somewhere else. “I’m glad we got to see what we did.”

2024 total solar eclipse

on up travel

Before people on the plane flew into a few minutes of totality, the lights were dimmed and the sky outside grew darker. Flight attendants and the pilot offered a couple of heads-ups. Seat-back screens showed the scenes elsewhere along the path of totality, including Mexico, then Texas and up through Indianapolis.

Passengers got a bag of swag that included “solar eclipse” Sun Chips, a Moon Pie, eclipse glasses, and Delta-branded socks and hat that said “climbing the cosmos.”

Captain Alex Howell said in an interview after the flight landed that he didn’t look at the sun during the flight, but saw the sky turn into a “dark version of dusk.”

“The city lights came on because of the darkness,” he said.

In the lead-up to the eclipse, several airlines publicized their best-chance flights for a prime viewing spot, with more than two dozen crisscrossing the country on Delta, United, Southwest, Alaska and other operators. They were careful to include caveats and make no promises.

“While Delta flight plans have been designed to maximize time within the path of totality, this is subject to change due to factors outside of Delta’s control such as weather and air traffic control that could impact timing and aircraft,” the airline warned.

Delta operated two dedicated eclipse flights from Texas on Monday, including one from Austin. On the flight from Austin to Detroit, a couple wearing eclipse shirts got engaged after passing through totality.

“Everyone was clapping and yelling and just really happy for them,” said Delta spokeswoman Catherine Morrow, who was on the flight. The captain piped up from the flight deck to ask the outcome.

In Dallas, the airport scene was festive Monday morning. Passengers walked under a celestial-themed balloon arch to board, airline representatives handed out glasses and a Yorkie named Delilah posed for photos with her humans.

“It’s her first eclipse, how could she miss it?” said Alan Goldberg, 70, an attorney who lives in New York City and Florida. Monday was Delilah the dog’s second birthday.

Thomas Iwinski, a 34-year-old meteorologist from Detroit, flew to Dallas Monday morning to get on the flight back home that would transport passengers along the path of totality. He described the mood at the gate as “ecstatic, joyful, elated.” He rented a home in Tennessee for the 2017 eclipse but didn’t want to take a chance on clouds this time.

“It’s definitely going to be something that I’ve never experienced before,” he said.

The airline had been planning for the flights for months.

In October, an operations planning staffer mentioned the upcoming eclipse. That led to some brainstorming and spitballing, said Chris Clisham, a flight superintendent at the airline, in a phone interview.

“And dot dot dot, here we are,” he said.

The logistics sound like an SAT word problem: If the plane is traveling at 400 mph and the moon’s shadow is racing at 1,600 mph, where will they overlap? And for how long? Throw in the angle of the sun while you’re at it.

“Fortunately, even though I am a math major, I didn’t have to bring any trigonometry into this equation,” Clisham said. Flight-planning software did the heavy lifting.

The airline first announced an Austin-to-Detroit flight in mid-February, describing it as “specifically for umbraphiles to be able to spend as much time as possible directly within the path of totality.” That flight sold out in a day, so Delta quickly added another one, this time from Dallas.

Jamie Larounis, a D.C.-based travel industry analyst with UpgradedPoints.com , had no special plans to see the eclipse. He was intrigued by Delta’s first flight, but it sold out before he could snag a seat. Then he saw a news release about the Dallas flight.

“Within 30 seconds, I had it booked,” he said. “I dropped everything.”

Before the flight, he said, he dropped 107,500 airline miles to book a first-class seat on the left side of the plane, equivalent to about $1,149. Anyone who heard about the plan assumed he has an extreme interest in eclipses, but he said he is more of an aviation buff.

“They all think I’m some sort of meteorologist, am I some sort of physics whatever,” said Larounis, 34.

Melanie Elliott, 36, of Chapel Hill, N.C., was disappointed to have missed the Austin flight so she leaped at the chance to fly out of Dallas. An astronomy fan who got a degree in physics, she was wearing astronaut earrings, a solar system necklace and a star and moon ring. After the flight, she said the view of totality — as she “was like laying on the right side of the seat” to try to see — was “a little disappointing.” She said she’ll watch her next eclipse from the ground.

But there was one huge perk for her: Astronaut Scott Kelly spoke at a post-flight party in Detroit and posed for pictures with passengers.

“Scott Kelly touched my moon tattoo,” Elliott said. “Kind of worth it.”

During the last eclipse visible from North America, in 2017, photographer Jon Carmichael tried to win a spot on a special Alaska Airlines flight so he could photograph the eclipse from the sky. He lost out, but pored over flight schedules and compared them with the eclipse path to find a Southwest flight from Portland, Ore., to St. Louis.

With the help of the pilots — one of whom even cleaned the window outside Carmichael’s seat before taking off — he took about 1,200 photos that formed an iconic photo mosaic documenting the eclipse.

Carmichael, who has also photographed an eclipse from land, said there are pros and cons to being in the air. The experience on the ground is more immersive; there are temperature changes, reactions from wildlife and the view is not obstructed by parts of a plane.

But in the sky, clouds are much less likely to get in the way. And, he said, it’s possible to see the moon’s shadow moving across the earth on the ground — a view unavailable to eclipse watchers for most of human history.

“We’ve only been flying as a human race for a little over 100 years; that’s only the blink of an eye,” he said. “It really gives you a sense of the scale of the universe that we’re part of this huge incredible celestial system where you actually can see the moon’s shadow being cast onto the Earth, moving across the Earth.”

A total solar eclipse passed across the United States on Monday, April 8. See photos and videos from the path of totality and read our reporters’ coverage from scenes across the nation .

Looking ahead: Missed this one? The next eclipse visible in the United States won’t be until 2044 — and then we’ll see another shortly after in 2045. If you did watch this eclipse but without proper eyewear, here’s what to do if your eyes hurt .

The science: This eclipse appeared especially dramatic because the sun was at its most active period in two decades. In the past, solar eclipses have helped scientists learn more about the universe . Here’s everything else to know about the solar eclipse.

Biden says he expects Iran to attack Israel 'sooner rather than later' as US moves troops

President joe biden issued a one-word caution to tehran as israel prepared for a possible barrage: 'don't.'.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden warned Iran against an expected attack on Israel as the U.S. moved more troops to the Middle East in anticipation of a strike on Israeli or Western interests in the region.

Asked by reporters how close Iran may be to launching at attack on Israel, Biden said Friday that “my expectation is sooner than later.” He declined to go into details.

The president said his message to Tehran was: “Don’t.”

Iran's leaders have vowed revenge after a suspected Israeli airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, killed seven Iranians, including a leader of its Revolutionary Guards. Israel hasn't admitted responsibility for the strike.

Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, accused Israel and said it "must be punished and shall be."

Army Gen. Erik Kurilla, the commander of U.S. Central Command, has been in Israel conferring with officials there about a potential attack, a Defense official told USA TODAY.

On Thursday, the State Department issued a security alert for U.S. government employees in Israel. The security alert noted that incidents can take place without warning and "can change quickly depending on the political situation and recent events." Employees and their families have been restricted from personal travel outside major metropolitan areas in Israel.

Also Thursday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken called his counterparts in China, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, asking other countries to "urge Iran not to escalate,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said.

At the Pentagon, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin conferred by phone with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Austin pledged that the United States would give its full "support to defend Israel against Iranian attacks," according to a readout of the call.

Earlier on Friday, the Islamic Resistance of Iraq, a group of Shia militias loyal to Iran, issued a statement warning it would hold the U.S. responsible if it "commits any foolishness in Iraq" or against members of the so-called Axis of Resistance − Iran, Syria, or in southern Lebanon.

"The statement is undoubtedly referring to a retaliation against Iran," Joe Truzman, an analyst at the nonprofit Foundation for Defense of Democracies, wrote on social media .

One week ago, administration officials had said an Iranian attack was potentially imminent. When that did not happen, an attack after the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan was deemed more likely.

You can droop the hell out of the wheels / axle, but what about on uneven terrain when the opposite wheel wants to go up, while the other is going down.
