Zicasso's travel partner exceeded our expectations from our first email exchange through to the last day of our trip! The travel agent who worked with us to develop the perfect trip within our time frame was amazing. She clearly listened to our preferences, goals, interests, etc. During the planning process, if something didn't seem quite right to us (and that only happened in one or two instances), she immediately looked for an alternative that worked perfectly. One example was making sure we were back in Cascais to experience their carnival parade. Another was making sure my allergies to feather and down bedding were taken care of before we arrived at each hotel. This is often a time-consuming hassle when we travel here in the States because my requests are often ignored, but there was never an issue on this trip. Because of her thorough approach, by the time we were set to travel, we felt completely confident that we were going to experience a wonderful trip. Our guide throughout our seven days in Portugal was also amazing! He quickly picked up on our preferences and interests. His knowledge of Portuguese history and culture from ancient times to today was exceptional. His recommendations for restaurants in each town or city we visited were excellent – great cuisine and establishments locals frequented. We only wish we had had more days to try all of his recommendations! Equally of note, he was a great companion and conversationalist as we traveled between destinations. We learned so much and had a great time getting to know a new country with a new friend! We highly, highly recommend our travel agency without hesitation! In fact, we've already recommended them to friends!

I worked with our travel agent for my trip to Spain. He prepared an itinerary for us which was perfect, with all the places we intended to travel. I loved that he was flexible in working with us on a final itinerary that met our expectations. My friends and I had an amazing trip to Portugal planned by Zicasso’s tour operator. When we arrived at the airport in Lisbon, our agent and her team were there to greet us, which was a pleasant surprise. Everything was well planned out and organized. We visited Porto, Lisbon, and the Algarve over eight days. We had tours set up in each city and private transportation as we traveled to each place. We were also able to visit Coimbra, Évora, and Sintra as we drove through the country. All our tour guides were excellent and very knowledgeable. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Useful information for planning your vacation in Portugal

The official language of Portugal is Portuguese. Most people in Portugal also speak good English.

The currency of Portugal is the euro (€), which you can easily buy before arriving. Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted but paying by American Express may not always be possible. For smaller transactions, it’s worth carrying cash. ATMs and foreign exchange counters are widely available in cities and major towns.

Salted cod, grilled sardines fresh off the boat, creamy custard tarts — Portuguese food is fresh, simple, and delicious. Medieval trade routes brought tropical spices to Portugal and over the centuries, cinnamon, saffron, cloves, and cumin have been embraced wholeheartedly and woven into a complex range of hearty soups and fish and seafood dishes.

A staple in the Portuguese diet is bacalhau (dried salted cod), which was traditionally taken on long sea journeys. Fish and seafood features heavily on menus in coastal areas, while inland, tasty soups such as caldo verde (kale, potato, and chorizo soup) are popular. For a sweet treat, don’t miss pasteis de nata (Portuguese custard tarts), a local delicacy that originated in the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon.

While Portugal is renowned for its fortified port wine, it’s also becoming increasingly acclaimed for its wines. Look out for vinho verde, a young, crisp white from the Minho region.

A tip of 10% is considered standard in Portuguese restaurants. Taxi drivers and porters don’t expect a tip, but always appreciate one, while it’s customary to tip private drivers and guides. Your specialist can advise on appropriate amounts closer to your trip.

For golden sands and Moorish and Roman ruins head to the Algarve , but if you’d like to get away from it all, the nine volcanic islands that make up the Azores offer dramatic craters and steaming fumaroles as well as sun-drenched vineyards and gushing waterfalls.

Far more than a bed for the night, hotels in Portugal offer an insight into local life and history with stays in 16th-century convents, 300-year-old wine estates, and opulent former palaces. Roman, Moorish, and Baroque architecture, terraced vineyards, and sunny beaches await in Portugal. Portugal offers rich culture, historic streets, and memorable food and wine experiences. While here, you could wander Moorish alleyways, explore the crypts of medieval cathedrals, or see whimsical palaces and gardens built by royalty to escape the summer heat.

Nazare was the best way to start our trip: gorgeous weather, gorgeous day, stunning views, amazing food along the beach, great shopping. We motored up the river with our guide, sitting on the deck, drinking the wine he offered us. The Quinta where we stoped is a beautiful winery with an amazing view of the river. The tour was very educational. Lunch was delicious and so was the wine. All the staff were incredibly helpful and pleasant.

We had a wonderful time in Portugal! We loved the hotel in Douro, it had wonderful meals. We also loved both outings and the guides. We also really enjoyed the sunset sail, both the captain and the boat were terrific. We had a great time in Comporta: loved the hotel and the horseback riding on the beach. All in all, a 10 plus trip.

We ate like kings and queens while enjoying some amazing seafood.

We have had a trip of a lifetime!!! Had a glorious boat tour of the Algarve yesterday. It was fabulous. The boat was the nicest in the harbor and they obviously go to great lengths keeping it clean. They had the most modern and comfortable amenities (on board and for off board (i.e paddle boards and food/champagne). We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

We did have an interesting dinner, one night in Lisbon at a private home of an art collector with a private chef. That was certainly a unique experience that we enjoyed. The private after hours tour of the Pena Palace was definitely a special opportunity. Overall, we had a great time and had an opportunity to see a lot, eat a lot of good food, and drink a lot of good wine.

The best moments in Portugal are all related with food starting with Lisbon Food Tour, O’Faia and Fado, O Solar dos Nunes, Sintra Pena Palace, Cascais lunch and ending in Nazaré lunch at Casa Pires (the best). Tour guide in Porto also recommended Cervejaria Brasão for lunch and Adega de Sao Nicolau for dinner - both fantastic. A part from that, all hotels and breakfasts were pretty good. Definitely would recommend it to those thinking about visiting Portugal!

It was a great trip and was very pleased that Paula stayed with us the whole time. Therefore I could enjoy myself knowing everything was in good hands. Choice of restaurants was great, all different and beautiful places. The program on Friday was very nice and we got a good idea of Portugal (and that in 1 day). The fado performance was great, everybody appreciated this and for a lot it was the first time! Hotel was very nice, clean, large rooms and very cosy sportsbar. Friendly personnel and flexible with opening hours sports bar. All details were taken care of, even during dinners. Good cooperation regarding departure times busses, communication via the flipchart and giving suggestions for nightlife. So, very very pleased with you Paula. You made our trip even nicer and we felt very taken care of! Even in the few days we spent in Lissabon besides attending the Websummit, I really feel like we got to see a lot of Lissabon and its surrounding. It felt like true luxury to get to sit down in a bus and get shown around and being dropped off at all these pretty locations. One of the highlights for me definitely was the tram tour and the walking tour through the city. I really had a good time!! I cannot think of any recommendations anymore. It was great, an A+! Paula is the best, by the way!!!

The two days with first Nuno and then Manuel were amazing! They are so knowledgeable and such excellent drivers! We could relax and learn from them. The most memorable part of the trip was the private wine tour which was absolutely perfect. The Carvalhas Vineyard was spectacular and very informative. Their dedication to the development of their property and their wine is very impressive. The visit to the Vinho Douro region was an unforgettable experience. There is little that we would change on our trip.

Day 1 : ARRIVE LISBON

Arrive in Lisbon and meet your driver for your private transfer to your accommodations.

This tour will show you the most important sights in Sintra, classified as Unesco World Heritage since 1995, the cosmopolitan village of Cascais and the westernmost point of Europe, Cabo da Roca. Start direction to the enchanting Sintra, one of the most romantic villages in the world. Arrive in Sintra and pass by the old medieval village, heading up the hill to the  Royal Pena Palace for a guided visit, the former summer Residence of the Portuguese King in one of the highest peaks of the mountain range, built on the ruins of an old 16th century monastery.

Free time to walk around the narrow streets of Sintra, full of small shops selling Portuguese tiles and ceramics, the walk itself is like walking back in time. In the centre of the village admire the National Sintra Palace in Moorish style with its conic chimneys and manueline style windows. Lunch in Sintra or nearby (NOT included). Includes Pena Palace entrance.

After lunch, the tour continues to the westernmost point of Europe, Cabo da Roca, to admire the view. Drive through the hill and we will pass by Guincho Beach, one of the best beach near Lisbon, followed by a visit of Cascais, traditionally a seaside fishing village became a very fashionable seaside resort. Finally, we will end drive by Estoril, very famous during the 2nd World War (Ian Fleming lived there and wrote a book about 007).

Why travel to Moscow

It would take more than two days to walk around the perimeter of the biggest city in Europe, Moscow. Many of its inhabitants barely know what’s beyond the few blocks around their flat and there are so many attractions that it’s almost impossible to know where to start. If there is such a thing as an antidote to boredom, Moscow City is it. The mind-boggling range and diversity of things to do, places to eat, parks, historical monuments and more means that a vacation in Moscow has a wealth of activities to offer for every type of traveler, from young families to retirees.

Reasons to Vacation in Moscow in 2022

The Bolshoi theatre is familiar to almost everyone as Russia’s grandest theatre, but what people don’t know is that there are many more bolshoi (big) sites in Moscow that are worth travelling all the way to Moscow to see. For more than 100 years, the world’s biggest bell has been hidden behind the Kremlin’s walls and inside Moscow’s main park (which is bigger than some countries!) there is the world’s largest outdoor ice-rink. Travelers that visit Moscow can stay at the Izmailovo, Europe’s biggest hotel, then eat at the largest and most historic McDonald’s in Europe and after that have fun at the largest European indoor theme park!

Ancient Past & Stunning Architecture:

As those who travel to Moscow will see, just because Moscow is a city of record-breaking, glitzy high-rises doesn’t mean that there is no history. On the famous Arbat street, time-worn, wooden storehouses and century-old churches are squashed up against grey, soviet blocks which are then towered over by 21st century office-blocks. Unlike its much younger sibling, St Petersburg, Moscow’s roots stretch way back to the 12th century. Within the walls of the Kremlin, the city’s oldest building the Cathedral of Assumption can be admired in all its 500+ years of age.

Culture & Convenience

For a foreigner who has never visited Russia, Moscow is the perfect stepping stone into this great land of mystery. From the country’s best classical ballet troupes to snow-white troikas trotting through the parks, all the highlights of Russian culture can be had in Moscow without any of the complications that would be expected in other, less developed regions of Russia.

Cheap as Caviar

In Moscow, everything is bargain when with the current foreign exchange rates being what they are. Even caviar doesn’t seem so dear when the exchange rate is at 60rub to the dollar, so go on indulge yourself! Take your 2022 vacation in Moscow and have the best of both worlds, with European luxury at very affordable prices.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

We had a great time both in Moscow and St Petersburg. Your travel agency was excellent in coordinating the whole trip. Everything worked like clockwork. The guides assigned to us were very nice and friendly. They had a great knowledge of their subjects. The cars and the drivers were great. The hotels were good and the itinerary was good.
