Two Safari Zoos You Need to Visit in Bangkok, Thailand

Going on a wild African safari has always been a dream of mine. My heart overflows with so much joy at the idea of being around animals.

Name it: snakes to squirrels or dogs to dinosaur fossils, each one is so fascinating that even the scariest ones I have much love and respect for.

To give you an idea, my family once had a pet snake, three iguanas, over 30 small fishes, about 20 Persian, Himalayan and Rag Doll cats (all at the same time, mind you, lol) and currently, three dogs.

Which reminds me, have you seen the episode where I was over the moon meeting Arya Stark’s horse from my Game of Thrones post?

Yes, I really do love animals.

So imagine my excitement to discover safari zoos so close to the Philippines!

Safari World Bangkok

Safari World is a wonderful surprise for the animal lover as it’s only 45 minutes away from Bangkok city.

Riding your own vehicle (you usually book the tour from the city), you get to roam around the zoo grounds just as you would in an African safari.

It’s at the end where you arrive at the actual zoo itself.

What’s the highlight? You need to watch today’s episode to see all the candid, crazy, unforgettable moments captured with such majestic Safari animals!

Kanchanaburi Safari Open Park Zoo

Tourists are taken on a very rustic bus around the impressively vast zoo grounds to feed the different animals from zebras to giraffes, deers and more.

All the fun is in the feeding as each animal we perceive to be shy and harmless in cartoons can actually be quite the naughty ones like this zebra who zoomed in to take the giraffe’s food, haha!

Personally though, the highlight of it all for a separate extra fee is feeding baby leopards and lion cubs!!! UNREAL.

Do they bite? What are they like? Are they mistreating the animals?

Watch and find out.

The video shows it all, I promise! These photos don’t do any justice.

I always stress, the written posts are are merely the introduction to each VLOG episode .

There are more animals to come on the VLOG from Japan, Phuket to the Arctic Circle. So don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel!

Love & light,

Location: Bangkok, Thailand

NOTE: This written post is merely an introduction as the main content is in the video. I highly encourage you to watch it for the full experience on what the episode is truly all about.

For both parks , the rate is 1,500 Thai Baht for an adult and 1,400 Thai Baht for a child.

If you want to save money and get up to 40% discount , then book Safari World tickets online here . This is what we did before visiting the zoo and it really made our trip more cost-effective.

Our visit to Safari World Bangkok was really fun and unforgettable . We loved seeing the animals and the fantastic shows.

To get the best experience, try to visit both parks . We spent around 7 hours there .

We used a shuttle bus to get to the zoo since there’s no nearby BTS station.

We avoided the public bus because it’s slow. You can book the same shuttle bus we used here ; it’s fast and takes you straight to Safari World Bangkok .

This shuttle service includes a drive through the Safari Park , where you can see the feeding shows for lions and tigers up close . You won’t need to pay extra for a coach bus ride to enjoy these experiences.

Kanchanaburi Safari Park and Open Zoo

Kanchanaburi Safari Park and Open Zoo

Elephants. Probably the first thing you will think about Thailand. Though this sounds true, but if by any means you might come across Kanchanaburi there is a Safari Park that you can visit.

28 kilometers away  from the city — the Safari Park in Kanchanaburi  is  an open zoo nestled  in a vast  natural  landscape which houses camels, tigers, leopard, lions, elephants, parrots, deer, zebras, giraffe, flamingo, ostrich, llamas, and a wide varieties of different species waiting for you to witness and interact with.

Some of the animals living here have been rescued, and are now well taken care of by park volunteers and animal experts. If you are very fond of big cats, we highly recommend you to spend half a day here, learning about them, and interacting with them up close.

The elephant and crocodile show runs every day and is one of the most awaited performance that highlights the witty and talented presentation of these creatures. Before you proceed to the tour proper, there are bananas, vegetables, carrots, etc that are available for sale to feed the animals. The driver will then take you slowly, guiding you through each section and help you to take photos.

Kanchanaburi Safari Park was built based on Mr. Pun-yah Prasopsookchokemanee passion, love, and kindness towards animals. He aims for the safari park to become a learning platform for students and environmental education centers throughout the country. They also accept volunteers in the Safari that helps and spend time with the rescued animals especially the monkeys that have been rescued in the past. The volunteers help them to heal the past traumas they experienced outside the Safari.

If you have your own transportation you can roam around the zoo by yourself but it is recommended to take the zoo bus to fully enjoy the view and have a chance to interact with the wild creatures. Don’t be surprised if the giraffes will start approaching the bus to look for baskets of bananas and other fruits that they know you bought for them.

The open safari also houses some of the Asiatic Black Bear, Bengal Tiger, African Lion, Leopard that has been rescued in the past.

If you would like to have your own transportation to go and roam around the Open Zoo proper and visit the Park on your own pace and time, we can arrange a private transport for your convenience from your place and back.

Enjoy and treat yourself for some Jumanji-like experience while you are in Thailand!

Hop on a taxi or Grab

If you are not good at navigation or have an extensive budget for transportation, taxi or grab car are definitely the most convenient and easiest way to reach your desired destinations.

Traveling by taxi to Safari World Bangkok may cost you around 600 to 700 Baht (USD $19 - $20) for a one-way and 1200 – 1500 Baht (USD $38 - 48) for a round trip. The route lasts for nearly 8 kilometers and you will get to encounter tigers, zebras, deer, antelopes, birds and a lot more. Some animals even surprise you when they come closer to the window.

A trip may take about 45 minutes. It is best if you can join this tour in the morning since the temperature will be milder and clearer than during the noontime or in the afternoon when the weather tends to be humid and scorching. Also, the sunlight is lovely and bright enough for you to comfortably explore the safari and have stunning photographs as well.

2. Travel under the sea at Marine World

The second part of Safari World Bangkok is Marine World, where you can learn more about underwater wildlife through a number of animal shows stretching over to the Jungle Walk area. There are up to 7 different shows operating every day and most of which occur in the afternoon.

Marine World at the Safari World Bangkok

If Safari World is best to explore in the morning when the weather is ease and clear, Marine World is great to see in the afternoon. During this time, Bangkok’s weather is getting hotter but Marine World surely blows the heat away with its cool atmosphere and many relaxing yet entertaining activities.

3. Boating along the Jungle Cruise River

A welcome gate at Safari World Bangkok

Much similar to the one in Singapore, Jungle Cruise River is a 30-minute boat trip that will take you through a “jungle" that features all the natural habitats of Africa and Asia. However, this Jungle Cruise River is not included in your purchased entrance ticket, so you may need to purchase an extra ticket to join this interesting activity.

4. Explore the mystic woods with Jungle Walk

A trip to Jungle Walk leads you to a simulated jungle where you will get to encounter many kinds of native species living in the wilderness. The jungle is giant and dense, hence you should always follow the direction signs in order not to get lost in the middle of the trip or in case you are finding a way to the shows.

Some essential tips before you go

  • The weather in Bangkok is really humid and hot, and same as to Safari World. Therefore, light outfits and a comfortable pair of shoes are the perfect combos for a day trip to the attraction. Also, don't forget to apply some sunscreen and bring along a hat, an umbrella, and a refillable bottle to keep yourself from heat stroke and dehydrated.
  • You can choose to take a taxi to see the open Safari Park, but make sure to negotiate for the best price.
  • If you are traveling in a group of 3 or 4 people, traveling by taxi or Grab car will help you save a lot.
  • A complete trip at Safari World Bangkok takes roughly 6 hours.
  • Get a map at the entrance or download one to help navigate throughout the park at ease.
  • Come early if you have the buffet ticket, as the restaurant is usually packed during lunchtime and it closes at 2 PM.

Safari World Kanchanaburi

The animals aren't kept in a natural environment but rather sheltering under structures that don't look natural at all. I enjoyed interacting with the elephants by sitting in their trunks and having one walk over n and stomp in my chest. The crocodile show was interesting with the handler placing his hands inside the crocodile's mouth.

Feeding baby tigers lions and all animals they are very cute such a great experience once for your life, why not?

safari world bangkok vs safari park kanchanaburi

I visited the Safari Park Open Zoo today and thought it was absolutely amazing! This is a must if you are anywhere near.......if you do not come here you will regret it. We got the basic package for 2000bah each and it included entry to the park, feed and play with a cub of your choice (Leopard, Tiger or Lion), macaw interaction, bus safari & play with a larger cat. I believe it was very good money for value. All the staff & volunteers were so friendly and really made the experience better (thank you guys 😀). All of the animals are very well cared for and while we were there the vets arrived to give the Cubs their immunisations and a once over. But see you yourself..........

safari world bangkok vs safari park kanchanaburi

I cannot praise this place enough...The staff are all amazing...My husband , daughter and I spent the best part of two days there...Im pretty sure we did most things...The main reason for going is that my daughter wants to volunteer when she is a little older with animals as wants to be a zoologist...The staff went out of their way for her...and she had the most amazing experience...All volunteers are dedicated..so good with the animals..explain everything in detail , so patient..work really hard..The manager , well , fabulous...Point of view of a customer...I cannot think of anywhere where you can experience time like this with these beautiful animals..My favourite was being surrounded by so many giraffes...I need to do this again...I will dig out the photos and add some on here...priceless...just amazing..what can I say..other than Thank you so much

Was really nice. The animals seemed to be under good treatment and none looked to have suffered any abuse. Yeah it is kind of mass tourism, but for thailand conditions it looks really good. They even have volunteer programms for zookeepers from other countries. There were many young 'not asian' people who also took care of the animals. Special thing is to feed baby leopards, tigers or lions. But also that seems to happen under good conditions: people have to wash their hands before they go in, not more than two people, limited throughout the day so the wild cats won't get overfeeded. All in all a great experience for anybody, couples, families etc.

We did only the safari, because we don't like what they do with the elephants and other animals, as they use them as circus animals in shows. The safari itself is nice. The kids get to feed and look the giraffes in their eyes, and that was worth it all. The refuge animal section is also nice, and good to see that with the help of Western volunteers, they try to help the animals. The place is overpriced and they have the "feed the tiger" attractions, if you are into it. The place and staff looks out dates and old.
