Light & Breathable Although super cosy, the material is light and doesn't trap heat.

This size guide is based on your dog feeling comfortable but also cosy. The sizing data has been collected from thousands of customer's feedback on what size is best suited for their dogs. If you want to accommodate for your dog being completely stretched out then we would recommend going up a size.

sash dog travel bed

We have measured to the best of our capability but when dealing with soft plush fabric, we can only estimate.

You must have an indication not only when your dog is in full size but also curled up as they will be most of the time when they are snuggled in their bed. If you want your dog to have even more room please order a size up. If you are still not sure please see below to help you choose the right size, you must measure your dog when it is in its natural sleeping form and take note of the largest width and length that you have measured.

Our sizing "is oversized" because we want your puppy to grow into it. Keep in mind when you are purchasing the SASH bed that it is a bed that is built to last.

portable-dog-beds

Most dogs love to accompany their owners on overnight trips (it’s much better than spending the night in a kennel), but you’ll need to keep your dog comfortable during your travels.

One of the best ways to do this is by bringing along a portable travel bed, on which your dog can snooze through the night.

There are a number of portable beds on the market that are great for exactly this kind of purpose, but some of the models are better than others. Below, we’ll explore some of the most important things to look for in a travel bed and recommend six great options for your next trip.

Continue reading for more in-depth reviews

Why Use a Travel Bed?

There are a variety of reasons to bring a portable bed with you while you are traveling, and there aren’t many drawbacks to doing so.

Some of the most important reasons to bring one along include the following:

Your dog may not be allowed to sleep on the furniture in your home away from home.

Travel beds can help anxious dogs feel a little more secure at night.

Travel beds not only give your dog a place to sleep, they give him a place to hang out.

Portable beds can often be used in conjunction with your dog’s crate.

Portable beds will help contain shed hair and keep your host’s home cleaner.

What Characteristics Should You Look for in a Portable Travel Bed?

Modern dog owners have a variety of portable travel beds from which they can choose, but some work better than others, and you’ll want to be sure to pick out one of the best possible models.

Just be sure to look for a portable bed that includes the following features and characteristics:

High-Quality Materials

Beds made with high-quality materials offer better comfort and durability than those produced by manufacturers who try to cut corners by using cheaper fabrics. It’s also important to scrutinize the materials used in the frames of elevated dog beds , as these are responsible for supporting your dog’s body weight.

Sufficient Loft

A well-cushioned bed will be more comfortable for your pup’s joints and help provide a better night’s sleep. Look for beds that are at least 1 inch thick, but thicker is always better. Loft isn’t applicable to most elevated beds, as they cushion your dog’s joints by keeping her entire body off the ground.

Easy-to-Clean Fabrics

You’ll need to wash your dog’s portable bed from time to time to remove the saliva, hair, and dirt it will collect. This is easiest to accomplish with a machine-washable bed, so they’re generally preferred to those that require hand washing.

Suitable Size

If your dog’s bed isn’t large enough, she probably won’t use it; and, if you pick a bed that is too large, you’ll just be making it harder to transport the bed.

There aren’t any hard-and-fast rules or guidelines for determining the perfect bed size for your dog, but you can usually get a good idea by simply measuring the space your dog takes up while she’s snoozing. Just be sure to add a bit to the length and width for a little wiggle room.

Water Resistant

Beds that absorb fluids – particularly urine – often develop pretty funky odors over time, and they are often more difficult to keep clean than those with water-resistant coatings or fabrics. If you are forced to choose a bed that doesn’t feature a water-resistant coating, consider applying a pet-safe water-repelling spray yourself.

If you are forced to choose a bed that doesn’t feature a water-resistant coating, consider applying a pet-safe water-repelling spray yourself.

Portability

Obviously, you’ll want a travel bed to be portable and easy to lug around – that’s pretty much the point. The best beds typically roll or fold up quite compactly and feature straps, buckles or clips to keep them secure. Elevated beds usually take up more space than conventional pet beds, but the ones detailed below are still pretty easy to stow in the car or a suitcase.

Best Portable Dog Travel Beds

The following six portable pet beds are great options for owners on the go, and most feature the characteristics you’d want for your dog. Just be sure to select one that is well-suited for your pooch’s specific needs.

1. Chuckit! Travel Dog Bed

Chuckit Travel Dog Bed (39'L x 30'W) Water Resistant, Blue

About : The Chuckit! Travel Dog Bed is an oval-shaped portable bed that rolls up and fits in the included stuff sack, making it easy to take with you on trips. The double-offset quilted design provides luxurious comfort and prevents the filling from clumping.

Price : $ Our Rating :

  • Machine washable fabrics make it easy to keep the bed clean (use a low-heat setting when drying)
  • Bed measures 30 inches by 39 inches
  • Polyester microfiber top and rip stop nylon bottom provide comfort and durability
  • Blue and gray color pattern

The majority of owners who tried the Chuckit! travel bed loved it. Dogs appear to appreciate the suede-like feel of the surface, while owners approved of the bed’s durability– several owners reported years of problem-free use. Additionally, many owners were happy to find that the bed took up very little space once it was inserted in the included stuff sack.

Aside from the complaints relating to dogs chewing up the bed, there were very few negative comments or reviews concerning the Chuckit! bed. However, a very small number of owners reported that their dog did not like the crinkling noise the nylon cover made, so it might not be ideal for super skittish dogs.

2. Carlson Pet Products Elevated Pet Bed

Carlson Pet Products Elevated Dog Bed, Indoor or Outdoor Dog Bed for Large Dogs, Green (8045)

About : The Carlson Pet Products Travel Bed is an elevated pet bed that provides your pet with a cool and comfortable place to sleep. Despite the robust and durable materials used in the construction of the bed, it folds up easily and weighs relatively little, making it great for taking with you on vacations.

Price : $$ Our Rating :

  • Designed for dogs weighing up to 95 pounds
  • Bed measures 46.5 inches long by 24 inches wide by 7 inches tall
  • Comes with a carrying case to protect the bed during transport
  • Can be used indoors or outdoors

Most owners who tried the Carlson Elevated Bed liked it, and most pets seemed to like it as well. The elevated design was especially appreciated by dogs with hip, joint or bone problems, and it helps to keep dogs cool during hot nights, making it very well-suited while camping or taking a trip to the beach.

Very few owners had anything negative to say about the Carlson Elevated Pet Bed. However, it may not be the ideal choice for those with strict space constraints, as it is a pretty large bed.

3. Kurgo Loft Wander Dog Bed

Kurgo Waterproof Dog Bed, Outdoor Bed for Dogs |Portable Bed Roll for Pets, Travel |Hiking, Camping, Wander Loft Dog Bed |Chili Red (Medium)

About : The Kurgo Loft Wander Dog Bed is a waterproof bed that rolls up quickly and easily, making it great for traveling with your pooch. The bed features a Microtomic rip stop top, waterproof Rufftex bottom and a polytech fill.

Price : $$$$ Our Rating :

  • Includes super-convenient carrying handle
  • Backed by a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects
  • Available in two colors: brown and cherry red
  • Available in both medium (36 inches x 25 inches) and large (36 inches x 48 inches) – both are about 1.5 inches thick

The majority of owners who tried the Kurgo Loft Wander Bed were happy with their purchase. Many praised the rubberized bottom, which helped to keep the bed in place, while dogs seemed to love the comfort the bed provided. The handle was also a welcome addition, according to many owners who purchased the bed.

The only common problem most owners reported was the lack of sufficient padding, but this only seemed to be a problem for a small subset of dogs and their owners. A few owners also complained about the price of the bed (especially a portable bed only used occasionally when merited), but most still consider it to be a good value.

4. Ruff and Tuff Self-Inflating Travel Dog Bed

Lightspeed Outdoors Self Inflating Fleece Top Cover Travel Dog Bed | Kennel Bed ,32-Inch by 42 Inch

About : The Ruff and Tuff Self-Inflating Dog Bed is an inflatable, foam-core bed that is easy to use and provides your pooch with a comfortable place to rest or sleep. A perfect bed for traveling pet families, the Ruff and Tuff bed rolls up quickly and features two nylon buckle straps to keep it compact and tidy.

  • Bed measures 42 inches x 32 inches x 2 inches thick
  • Machine washable and comes with a one-year warranty
  • The bottom is water- and puncture-resistant, while the fleece top provides great comfort for your dog
  • Available in three colors: charcoal, tan and green

The Ruff and Tuff Travel Bed received glowing reviews from most owners who tried it. Most dogs appeared to find the bed extremely comfortable, while owners loved the ease with which the bed could be inflated or deflated. Additionally, several owners praised the bed’s construction and durability.

Complaints about the Ruff and Tuff Travel Bed were very rare, but a small number of owners found it too bulky when rolled up. It is also a little more expensive than most of the other options, but high-quality materials often increase the price of travel beds.

5. Kopeks Elevated Indoor-Outdoor Portable Bed

KOPEKS - Elevated Indoor Outdoor Portable Bed - Extra Large Size Blue Color

About : The Kopeks Elevated Bed is a mesh-topped portable bed, made with a steel frame and reinforced PVC connectors to provide the durability and rigidity you’d want in any pet bed. Although the Kopeks Portable Bed does not fold or collapse, it is easy to assemble and disassemble and requires no tools to do so.

  • Two supports are placed under the middle of the bed to provide plenty of support
  • Bed measures 48 inches long by 36 inches wide by 7 inches high
  • Mesh top and elevated design allow plenty of airflow to keep your canine cool and comfortable
  • Comes with a nylon carrying case

Most owners liked Kopeks Elevated Bed and found that it provided their pup with a comfortable place to sleep. Several owners also reported that the bed was very easy to put together and take apart, which makes it great for taking on adventures.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not provide a recommended weight range, and a few owners of medium to large dogs reported that the bed was not strong enough for their pup. This is disappointing, as the bed is certainly large enough for big dogs, and it is much larger than necessary for small pups.

Our Recommendation: The Chukit! Pet Travel Bed

While the Carlson Elevated Pet Bed is a good choice for owners seeking a bed that will keep their pooch up off the ground, the Chuckit! Bed is likely the best choice for most owners . Not only is the Canine Hardware Bed well-suited for travel, it is made from durable materials, provides a comfortable sleeping spot for

Not only is the Chuckit! bed well-suited for travel, it is made from durable materials, provides a comfortable sleeping spot for your pup, comes with its own stuff sack and received positive reviews by the vast majority of owners who tried it.

It is also quite affordable, which is always a nice bonus!

Your pet’s must-have in 2023? A SASH Bed. Here’s why…

best dog beds australia

As a new year kicks into action, we’re betting you’ve already got a wish list of purchases in motion.

Maybe it’s a ticket to that concert you’ve been waiting for. Perhaps you’re planning on updating your wardrobe or purchasing that new couch. Whatever you’ve got your heart set on, we’re sure you’ll spend some time researching the best product for your needs before finally pressing that ‘add to cart’ button and making it your own.

Well, since your pet can’t quite click ‘Buy Now’, we’re here to remind you what’s on their 2023 must-have list!

Luxury dog beds are beloved by dogs and cats alike all over Australia – and for good reason. Not only can a luxury dog bed provide your pet with much-needed comfort and support through each night, but they’ve also come a long way in a range of beautiful designs and material options. In fact, the Sash dog bed was born out of a desire to make a luxury dog bed that wasn’t only premium in nature and comfort, but also in how it complemented modern Australian homes.

Crafted from stylish and luxurious fabric, Sash beds aren’t designed to be hidden away in the laundry: they’re right at home in beautiful living spaces and bedroom environments. But it’s not just about aesthetics. Having a sash bed in your home’s living areas has such a significant bearing on your pet’s health & wellbeing.

If you’re yet to give your pet the gift of a Sash bed, or are on the hunt for the best luxury dog bed for their needs, it’s time to pay close attention to why this is the must-have item for your pet for 2023.

A bed you won’t want to hide away in the laundry!

If your dog is anything like all of ours, there’s one place they constantly prefer to be: with you!

Dogs are social creatures, receiving much of their peace and enjoyment from their sense of connection to the family unit. When their beds are placed in areas outside of common spaces, they’re less likely to actually use them, opting to sleep on the ground instead.

By embracing design aesthetics of modern Australian homes, Sash luxury dog beds fit right into living and entertaining areas, bringing beautiful design features along with their practical qualities. As each bed is made out of stylish and luxurious fabric (including a range of boucle dog beds, durable faux fur pet beds and ‘Teddy’ material dog beds), you can find a pet bed that looks right at home in your favourite room of the house.

Sash’s luxury dog beds are also incredibly easy to maintain. There’s no need to worry about mess or smell with one of these pet beds – simply wash the removable cover and your pets will get to enjoy that fresh sheet feeling we love so much ourselves!

Luxury dog bed, high-quality construction

Not only can a luxury Sash dog bed provide superior comfort for your pet, but they can also support the health of your dog or cat each and every day.

The high-quality materials we use to make our Sash beds are designed to support your four-legged family member with deep, comforting slumber. As each Sash bed is guaranteed never to flatten or sink, you can trust the quality of materials to continue to deliver excellent rest day in and day out for your pet.

For example, the Sash Ultra-Calming Dog Bed is shaped with high-rimmed edging and a deep bucket centre. This intentional design replicates your dog’s mother’s warmth and security, allowing them to snuggle in and feel right at home as they drift off to sleep.

With three layers of filling for maximum plush, these beds are designed to last the distance. High-quality breathable material allows heat to move through, creating a sleeping environment that’s suitable for every season.

Improves their health & well-being

Not only are Sash’s luxury pet beds designed for physical support, but they also provide our pets with much-needed emotional and mental support.

Sash Bed’s founder, Nejra, brought Sash to life after speaking to a close friend about her dog’s severe anxiety. Her friend described the anxiety as so intense, she was unable to leave him at home alone.

Nejra was so moved by the knowledge that her friend’s pup was in discomfort that she decided to design a luxury dog bed with a difference. Now, Sash beds are the result of more than 12 months of extensive research, product development and testing, with further sashbeds only continuing to build on the strength of this foundational work.

Each Sash dog bed is designed to provide a uniquely safe haven for your pet to find calm and relaxation. The weighted design, along with the sash beds’ deep rimmed walls, simulates the feeling of being hugged. If you know just how much your dog or cat loves a good snuggle, you’ll know how they’ll feel when they climb into one of our luxury pet beds for a great night’s sleep!

With so many Sashbeds now out in the world, customers are constantly commenting about how their pets seem more relaxed and able to enjoy deeper sleep when they’re in their luxury Sash bed. Since the quality of our sleep is so connected to the quality of our wellbeing, you can rest easy knowing your pet’s emotional and mental health is also supported every time they snooze in a Sash dog bed.

Prioritise your pet’s health and happiness this year

If you’re looking to invest in your own health and wellbeing this year, it’s important to do the same for your beloved pets. With dogs and cats alike loving the range of Sash luxury dog beds, you can find the perfect bed to support their physical, mental and emotional health across the year to come.

So as we like to say: out with the old and in with the snooze!

Enjoy the new standard in dog beds and give your pets a gift they’ll thank you for every day of the year.

Subway Strays: The Dogs of Moscow’s Metro

sash dog travel bed

Despite the collapse of the Soviet Union, the stray dogs in Moscow have a surprisingly well-documented history which animal behaviorists have been paying close attention to for several decades. During the Soviet period in Russia the packs of wild (or stray) dogs in were regulated. Only the clever canines who learned to stay in isolation were able to survive. Usually, these dogs would remain on the outskirts of the city hunting in wild packs, as the living in the city was dangerous and food scarce.  After the fall of the Soviet Union quality of life in Russia began to slowly improve and with it more street vendors and food collecting in busy neighborhoods. This began to bring some the stray dogs out of the suburbs into the city.

Today, there are nearly 35,000 stray dogs that call Moscow home. Out of these 35,000 stray dogs there are about 500 that have taken to living underground. Out of these dogs, there are a few that have started thinking outside the box and inside the boxcar. They have begun the slow move underground to stay out of the cold (Russian winters reach an average of -5 degrees every day). Many of the Russian commuters embraced the dog’s underground migration by petting them or giving them food.

Though these claims may seem like the made up type of internet misinformation that we have learned to be skeptical of these days, it is actually sourced to a Russian biologist by the name of  Dr. Andrey Poyarkov , a highly regarded scientist in his field of study. As it turns out Poyarkov has been studying these dogs for the last thirty years and told news sources back in 2010 that he suspected a small fraction of these underground dogs had actually learned to use the subway in order to beg for food in bustling urban areas where food is more plentiful.

Andrei Neuronov , an animal behaviorist, says much like you train your dogs at home to respond to verbal commands like “sit” or “stay,” the Moscow metro dogs are using audio cues from the subway stops they have learned. The dogs memorize the names of the stops to navigate the subway systems in order to take them to heavily populated places during the day and get food.  Then, they return to their more secluded corners of the suburbs at night where they are less likely to be bothered by people.  Here is a story ABC did back in 2011, talking about this very thing.

Do you have any information on how to help these dogs?  Please share and comment below.
