Guest Column by Julieta Isela

Los Angeles California went Frecuencia with the Argentine-Mexican duo Sin Bandera Saturday night, October 21.  It was autumn in Southern California, an ideal time for nostalgia, falling in love, longing for the love that left, or that that will arrive –  or both. It is also the time for the music of Leonel Garcia and Noel Schajris, who together form the duo, Sin Bandera.

The two artists, who reunited after a after a seven-year break in which each artist embraced a successful solo career,  showed again this past weekend why they are the perfect musical team and that their songs  are  the ideal soundtrack for the season as they performed  in front of thousands of fans who gathered at the recently inaugurated YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California, in Los Angeles county.

The romantic duo gave fans a show that was not for broken hearts, but for those in love. YouTube Theater was filled with heart-rendering sighs and thousands of ecstatic tears streaming down the cheeks of fans in one of LA’s newest and most sonically perfect venues in this city of angels. The theater literally vibrated as almost six thousand fans chanted the iconic songs of the two singer-songwriters as if time had stopped.

And for those in the theater, it had stopped.  Sin Bandera plumbed the deepest emotional depths with melodic, romantic songs like “Entra en mi vida,” “Kilómetros,” “Sirena,” and “Que me alcance la vida.” Listening to them put the audience into another dimension, one not ruled by time, but by the heart. When they sang, there was no other reality in the moment.

sin bandera us tour 23

For those who may not know them, Sin Bandera is a Latin romantic pop duo consisting of Mexican singer-songwriter Leonel García and Argentine singer-songwriter Noel Schajris.  Formed in 2000 they gained international recognition  and over 8 million monthly followers on Spotify for their ability to reach into the heart of listeners and stir deeply held memories and emotions. They have released several successful albums and have won multiple awards, including the Latin Grammy Award.

Their emotional impact is now the heart of the  Frencuencia Tour, named after their latest album, release in May of last year.  From Mexico to Cuba, and now throughout the United States Sin Bandera has once again left their mark. Their night at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles was magic, one the fans lucky enough to be there will never forget.

The  Frencuencia Tour has already visited more than 12 cities in the United States, capturing  the hearts of their followers and bringing in new ones.  And what better way to do it than by celebrating together their 20 -year career during this tour titled Frencuencia ,   from their latest album released last May of 2022. This 2023 tour will continue to spread the “Frecuencia Way” as it continues to enthrall thousands of fans, leaving an indelible mark in 5 more cities, culminating in New York City this coming December 9th at the United Palace.

Editor’s Note: The list features only U.S. tours and is updated on a biweekly basis. Tours that have already ended have been removed from the list .

Ever since the touring industry rebooted in 2021, Latin music has become increasingly popular, with some of its biggest acts announcing tours in 2022 — including Bad Bunny, who closed out the year with a record-breaking $435 million in tour grosses that combine more than 80 concerts from two separate treks (El Último Tour del Mundo and The World’s Hottest Tour).

Colombian star Karol G also made history, becoming the highest U.S.-grossing tour by a female Latin act with her $Trip Love Tour, grossing $69.9 million and selling 410,000 tickets across 33 shows in North America, according to numbers reported to Billboard Boxscore. The “Bichota” singer surpassed Jennifer Lopez‘s $50 million grossing It’s My Party World Tour in 2019.

While Bunny and Karol made the rounds, two of reggaetón’s big dogs, Daddy Yankee and Wisin y Yandel, also kicked off their individual farewell tours.

The former wrapped his La Última Vuelta World Tour with $197.8 million and 1.9 million tickets sold over 83 shows in 2022, making it the second-biggest tour by a Latin artist in Boxscore history. The latter wrapped the year with a historic residency of 14 sold-out concerts at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot, part of the duo’s La Última Misión World Tour.

Other memorable treks last year included Feid, Christian Nodal, Sebastian Yatra, and Rosalía, whose Motomami World Tour grossed $28.1 million through the end of October.
