2023 NFL Draft

Final list of steelers 2023 pre-draft visitors.

The Pittsburgh Steelers completed their top-30 pre-draft visits on Wednesday for the 2023 NFL Draft, as the club actually hosted 32 players, with two counting as local visitors, Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and West Virginia wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton.

The 32 players were divided with 16 on offense and 16 on defense. There were two quarterbacks, one tight end, five wide receivers, three tackles, five interior offensive linemen, four defensive linemen, four edge rushers, six cornerbacks and two safeties.

The Steelers have tended to take players that come to UPMC Sports Complex for pre-draft visits. Last year, quarterbacks Kenny Pickett and Chris Oladokun and linebacker Mark Robinson all came for visits before being drafted by the Steelers.

2023 Steelers Pre-Draft Meetings/Visits Tracker

2022 was a rebuilding year for the Pittsburgh Steelers, one in which they finished 9-8 and found their franchise quarterback in the process.

For the first time since he became head coach, Mike Tomlin will be on the scouting circuit without former general manager Kevin Colbert, with the objective of finding the right players to elevate this team to an AFC contender. New general manager Omar Khan will be Tomlin's right-hand man this offseason.

Below is the complete list of prospects who have either had pre-draft meetings or visits. During the course of this process, this list will grow and continue to be updated.

Important Note: Per Senior Bowl executive Jim Nagy, the Steelers will be meeting with all 125 players. Any formal interviews from this event will be noted .

With free agency winding down, the NFL’s main focus in the upcoming weeks will be the 2024 NFL Draft beginning on April 25. Ahead of the big day are top 30 visits, where NFL teams are allowed to bring up to 30 players on individual visits to their facilities for a private meeting. In-house visits with local players do not count towards the total.

With only limited slots for visits, looking at a team’s list of top 30 visits is a great way to keep an eye on the prospects they are most interested in. However, teams can also use the visits to feign interest in players or simply to answer medical questions they have about certain prospects.

There was a dry spell following the rush of free agency, but the Pittsburgh Steelers are getting active just weeks ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. Omar Khan is busy making the most of his pre-draft visits, and new names have been added to the list.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh continues to show where their biggest interest will lie early in the draft and the latest NFL mock draft follows the clues as to who the selection could be with the 20th overall pick. Here's the latest Steelers news.

Steelers host pre-draft visit with WR Ladd McConkey

According to Mark Kaboly of The Athletic , the Pittsburgh Steelers hosted Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey for a Top 30 pre-draft visit.

McConkey is a player Mike Tomlin has met with at four stops during the pre-draft process: the Senior Bowl, the NFL Combine, his Georgia Pro Day, and now in Pittsburgh for a pre-draft meeting.

After earning a Top 30 visit from the team, it's safe to assume that McConkey is high on their draft radar, though he does feel like a player who could fall between Pittsburgh's first and second-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Steelers could have enough interest to take him in Round 1, but a trade-back in the first round or a trade-up if he falls in Round 2 might be the best options.

Confirmed Top 30 visits with Zach Frazier, Cooper DeJean

Ray Fittipaldo of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette recently reported that Cooper DeJean had a pre-draft visit scheduled with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now we learned that this visit took place on Friday, April 12th.

Joining DeJean for a pre-draft visit was West Virginia center, Zach Frazier. This was a name that was rumored to be scheduled for a pre-draft visit, but we now have confirmation.

DeJean is coming off a season-ending leg injury, but the Iowa star is a versatile chess piece in the secondary. The Steelers would likely have to take him at pick 20 in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Frazier is considered a second-round prospect, but some fans fear he will be off the board before the Steelers make their selection with the 51st overall pick on Day 2 of the draft. Both players are now firmly on Pittsburgh's draft radar following their pre-draft visits. Frazier, a local prospect from West Virginia, won't count against the team's 30 visits.

Packers mock draft round-up: plenty of potential targets as 2024 draft nears, share this article.

The start of the 2024 NFL draft is Thursday night. The Green Bay Packers hold the 25th overall pick in the first round, and draft prognosticators see plenty of potential targets for general manager Brian Gutekunst come Thursday.

The majority of picks are defensive backs and offensive linemen, two need spots for Gutekunst to address in this draft.

Here’s who the Packers are getting in mock drafts four days out from the start of the 2024 NFL draft:

Mock draft: Jordan Reid, ESPN Pick: OL Graham Barton, Duke From Reid: “One of the most impressive non-QB prospects that I saw out on the pro-day circuit was Barton. He’s an easy mover at 6-foot-5, 313 pounds. Barton spent last season at tackle, but he’s projected to move inside at the next level, and he’s my top-ranked center. Barton would be a gritty plug-and-play option for a Packers team that has had a lot of success drafting offensive linemen over the past decade.”

He’s capable of playing safety, nickel or outside corner, all three of which are positions of need for the Packers; DeJean also has special-teams value. A former four-sport athlete and standout track star, DeJean is arguably one of the best athletes in the 2024 NFL Draft. He would give the Packers a much-needed playmaker in the secondary. He’d likely slide to safety next to Xavier McKinney, but he could man the slot or play on the boundary. He’s active and reliable in run support. On top of all that he is a dynamic punt returner and he’s still only 21 years old.”

Mock draft: Hayden Winks, Underdog Network Pick: OL Troy Fautanu, Washington (trade up to 12) Winks: “The Broncos don’t have a 2nd-rounder with a ton of holes to fill, including at QB. There doesn’t seem to be any pressure to stick and pick the next tier of QB (particularly Bo Nix) this high in the draft, so trading down makes a lot of sense for Denver. Meanwhile, Green Bay has two 2s and two 3s to work with. Fautanu is both athletic and versatile, traits the Packers typically love for their offensive line. The Washington product can compete at left tackle or at one of the guard spots.”

Mock draft: Mel Kiper Jr., ESPN Pick: OT Amarius Mims, Georgia Kiper: “While it’s possible Rasheed Walker, a seventh-rounder in 2022, could be the long-term replacement for David Bakhtiari at left tackle in Green Bay, I’d take a tackle with upside here. Again, this is the draft in which teams should pursue a first-round tackle. The 6-foot-8, 340-pound Mims started just eight games in college, but he was excellent when he was on the field. Once he locks into edge rushers, they get swallowed up in his massive wingspan. He didn’t allow any sacks in his career. The Packers have an extremely young offense, and Mims would be another pillar to build around.”

Mock draft: The Ringer (4/22) Pick: DB Cooper DeJean The Ringer: “The Packers add talent to the secondary here, grabbing the uber-athletic DeJean. The former Iowa star brings size, physicality, and twitchy movement skills to the cornerback position and has experience playing both over the slot and at safety. Green Bay can drop him into their defense early on.”

Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 NFL draft picks: Full list by round

The Pittsburgh Steelers own seven picks in the 2024 NFL draft , including two in Round 3 and two in Round 6. After an active free agency period in which they traded former No. 1 Kenny Pickett and obtained nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson along with ex-Bears first-rounder Justin Fields , Steelers fans will be eager to see what the next round of acquisitions could bring.

The Steelers finished 10-7 last season and made a late push to reach the playoffs, but the new QBs and the hire of a fresh offensive mind in coordinator Arthur Smith has Pittsburgh thinking bigger.

The 2024 NFL draft will take place at Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza in Detroit from April 25 through April 27. Round 1 will begin April 25 at 8 p.m. ET, while Rounds 2 and 3 are on April 26 starting at 7 p.m. ET. Rounds 4 through 7 begin at noon ET on April 27. The draft will be broadcast on ESPN, ABC, ESPN+ and the ESPN App. There are 257 total picks in the draft.

Here's the full list of the Steelers' draft picks by round, along with a look at their top roster needs headed into the 2024 season.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 draft picks

Top three needs : C, OT, WR. The Steelers addressed most of their needs in the early waves of free agency with the exception of center and offensive tackle. They released Chukwuma Okorafor and Mason Cole , leaving the team without a swing tackle and starting center. And 2023 first-round pick Broderick Jones projects as a left tackle (but played right last season), and four-year starter Dan Moore Jr . has been vocal about preferring the left side. The Steelers could target a right tackle early in the draft, moving Jones to the left side and Moore to a swing spot, but they also need to address center.

And after trading Diontae Johnson , Pittsburgh needs a steady No. 2 receiver behind George Pickens , and coach Mike Tomlin said Pittsburgh might wait until Day 2 on that. -- Brooke Pryor

Three Days Until NFL Draft: National Seven-Round Mock Drafts

The Green Bay Packers will be on the clock with 11 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. Here are those selections in the latest and greatest mock drafts.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The 2024 NFL Draft starts on Thursday. The draft is a puzzle to be assembled piece by piece, which is why the seven-round mock drafts are so much more valuable than mocking only Round 1.

Here is a look at the Green Bay Packers’ draft hauls in several fresh seven-round mocks.

Pro Football Focus: Clemson CB Nate Wiggins

Here’s a realistic scenario: The Packers need a cornerback and Clemson’s Nate Wiggins and Alabama’s Kool-Aid McKinstry are on the board. Which way would Gutekunst go?

In PFF’s seven-round mock , the choice was Wiggins.

“The Packers get a lengthy, athletic outside cornerback to pair with Jaire Alexander in new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley’s system,” said PFF analyst Jon Macri, who made the pick. “Wiggins consistently improved his coverage ability in college, and his combination of size and speed gives the Packers an intimidating duo to challenge on the perimeter.”

The next two picks filled more needs on defense with Georgia safety Javon Bullard and Michigan linebacker Junior Colson.

Bullard played mostly in the slot in 2022 and mostly safety in 2023. He’s not big but he packs a punch. “He provides physicality as a smaller player and strong coverage instincts to make an impact on the field.”

Colson is the best middle linebacker in the draft. “Colson has the experience, leadership and talent to be a long-term answer next to former first-round pick Quay Walker.”

Both third-round picks addressed the interior of the offensive line, and the draft concluded with a quarterback, but the draft whiffed on getting an offensive tackle.

ESPN.com: Duke OL Graham Barton

Jordan Reid’s seven-round mock draft for ESPN.com started with Barton, the All-American offensive tackle who is likely to shift to center or guard in the NFL.

“One of the most impressive non-QB prospects that I saw out on the pro-day circuit was Barton,” Reid said. “He's an easy mover at 6-foot-5, 313 pounds. Barton spent last season at tackle, but he's projected to move inside at the next level, and he's my top-ranked center. Barton would be a gritty plug-and-play option for a Packers team that has had a lot of success drafting offensive linemen over the past decade.”

Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean went to the Lions at No. 29.

The second-round picks were home runs with Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper and Utah safety Cole Bishop. There is a “clear lack of depth” beyond Quay Walker at linebacker, and the Packers suffered through “inconsistent safety play” last season.

In the third round, the choices were Oregon cornerback Khyree Jackson and Tennessee running back Jaylen Wright.

“The Packers signed Josh Jacobs in free agency to replace Aaron Jones, but Wright would bring a different element,” Reid said of Wright, who is our No. 2 back . “He's a home run hitter who averaged 7.4 yards per carry (third in the FBS) and had 35 runs for 10-plus yards last season.”

Back-to-back edge defenders started Day 3, and Oregon State safety Kitan Oladapo and Pitt cornerback M.J. Devonshire highlighted the final choices.

The Athletic: Trade Up

In Packers beat writer Matt Schneidman’s final mock , the Packers gave up fourth- and sixth-round picks to move up four spots to pick Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims.

“Green Bay found its franchise quarterback,” Schneidman said. “Priority No. 1 now is protecting him … This draft is about finding a couple more with perhaps higher upside than Rasheed Walker, Josh Myers and Sean Rhyan, whom the organization still seems high on for the short term.”

In the second round, the choices were Kansas State offensive lineman Cooper Beebe and Georga safety Javon Bullard. Beebe started at right tackle in 2020, left tackle in 2021 and left guard the past two years. As mentioned before, Bullard played mostly slot in 2022 and mostly safety in 2023.

The third-round picks landed key depth at defensive end and a starter at linebacker. Without a fourth-rounder as part of the Mims trade, the fifth-round choice was Kentucky quarterback Devin Leary. Leary spent five years at NC State before transferring to Kentucky for his final season, where he completed 56.3 percent of his passes with 25 touchdowns and two interceptions.

Pro Football Network: Trade Down

The Packers traded back from 25th to 28th in Ian Cummings’ seven-rounder and selected Missouri defensive end Darius Robinson.

“At around 6-foot-5 290 pounds, Robinson is a hybrid lineman in a similar mold to Denico Autry — who can play 5-tech on running downs and also rotate inside with his power,” Cummings wrote.

In the second round, Connecticut’s Christian Haynes can “grow into an all-league guard” while Kentucky linebacker Trevin Wallace is “an aggressive attack presence who can also erase RBs in coverage.”

In the third round, Washington state safety is the “perfect fit” alongside Xavier McKinney and TCU lineman Brandon Coleman “has all the traits … coveted by the Packers.”

In Day 3, Memphis running back Blake Watson was the noteworthy pick. He rushed for 1,152 yards and caught 53 passes as a sixth-year senior.

PFF: Iowa CB Cooper DeJean

On Saturday, Trevor Sikkema put out an all-Packers mock . Batting leadoff: DeJean.

“He doesn’t have much experience in press coverage but can succeed in that role. DeJean is likely the best run-defending cornerback in the class. There aren’t many holes, if any, in his game,” he said as part of a much longer report.

Yale offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie and Michigan linebacker Junior Colson were the picks in the second round, and USC safety Calen Bullock and Kentucky running back Ray Davis were the choices in the third.

“Bullock has top-tier range and does his best work from a single-high alignment. He has the long speed, hip fluidity and footwork to break on the ball and cover a ton of ground,” Sikkema wrote. “He is slender and currently lacks NFL-level strength/density to be reliable there. Though his movement skills are cornerback-like and can translate to slot coverage, his strength is an issue when playing near the line of scrimmage or against tight ends in man coverage.”

The Day 3 picks were highlighted by the aforementioned Kentucky linebacker Trevin Wallace in the seventh.

DraftTek: Trade Up

The Packers traded No. 25 and No. 58 to the Jaguars for No. 17 and an additional pick in the fourth to grab Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean.

“He's an ideal fit for Jeff Hafley's description of a safety with the range and sure tackling to erase big plays and the ballhawking skills to make plays on the ball. Still just 21 years old, DeJean could be a true field tilter in Green Bay's secondary for years to come.”

The lone second-round pick grabbed BYU offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia, who played right tackle in 2022 and left tackle in 2023. Two players mentioned previously, Tennessee running back Jaylen Wright and Kentucky linebacker Trevin Wallace, were the picks in the third.

Additional linemen were added in the fourth and fifth round, with TCU’s Brandon Coleman and Wisconsin’s Tanor Bortolini, and the draft was rounded out by a defensive lineman, linebacker, quarterback and edge.

Sports Illustrated: Trading Up and Down

I did four seven-rounders over the weekend – two trade-down mocks and two trade-up mocks, one that pushed the Packers almost into the Top 10 and another that gave the team a pair of first-round selections . The point was to show the give-and-take of such decisions.
