Switchfoot are an alternative rock band formed of: Jon Foreman (lead vocals), Tim Foreman (bass), Jerome Fontamillas (keys), Drew Shirley (guitar) and Chad Butler (percussion) from San Diego, US.
Starting in 1996, the band have become known for their alternative rock guitar driven tracks and their ability to mix it up with more slow tempo songs intertwined with elegant string arrangements. With influences ranging from U2 to Bob Dylan and Dave Matthews Band has provided them with universal appeal. Often labelled as ‘an alternative Christian rock band’ as a result of tremendous support from several Christian rock radio stations based on the band’s personal beliefs. In a 2003 interview with Rolling Stone, frontman Jon Foreman spoke up on the categorisation by stating “We’re Christian by faith, not genre”.
In 2002, four Switchfoot tracks (including the hits: “Dare You to Move” and “Learning to Breathe”) featured heavily in the blockbuster “A Walk to Remember” garnering interest with several record labels. Making the decision to sign with Sony BMG, the band released their first major label album “The Beautiful Letdown” in 2003 which helped catapult them into the mainstream allowing them to successful complete the crossover transition. The critically acclaimed album was a huge success, selling over 2.6 million copies and achieving double platinum status.
Experimenting with stylistic nuances meandering through their distinctive sound and incorporating synth elements created another dimension to the band’s musical ingenuity and extending their widespread appeal.
Mirrored by their various successes, throughout their lengthy career Switchfoot have been highly revered by the industry amassing several accolades including: a Grammy Award in 2011 for the album “Hello Hurricane” as Best Rock or Gospel Album, three ASCAP awards and 11 GMA Dove Awards.
As a band who constantly tour their extensive back catalogue, Switchfoot have built up a passionate following and incredible reputation for the energetic and memorable performances.
Live reviews
Switchfoot live is a completely immersive 1990s-and-onward Christian music concert experience. Lights, action, fog, heavy music, and uplifting banter are all hallmarks of a Switchfoot concert.
In a move similar to Jars of Clay and bands like Mercy Me, Relient K, and Zoe Girl the alternative rockers go hard. Muted colours ranging from blue to yellow bathe the stage and the band as they showcase their passion for music, God, and their fans.
Jon Foreman pushes his vocals into a smoky territory as he moves through the set list and the other members keep an inspired tempo and Tim aids with vocals. Progressing from the hard and heavy to the longing, Switchfoot maintains their intensity and prance around the stage full of energy for their fans.
As “Saltwater Heart” fades into “Meant to live” the energy levels merely shift rather than dropping and the plaintive notes take on an intensity of their own. A short break in the singing gives Tim a chance to engage the audience and he sets a haunting echoing call and return refrain with the audience. The music is obviously planned for this and the audience seems more like performers rather than observers.
Being involved with such a great band leaves me with a sense of oneness with myself and God. The band calls the set "summertime songs" and they remind me of years past in summer youthgroups, camps, retreats, and advances.

The show was incredible! Relient K opened up the night with a kick, playing hits from their new album, Air For Free, and old songs like "Be My Escape", "Sadie Hawkins Dance", "Boomerang", and "I Need You". Switchfoot started their set with "Holy Water", then proceeded to get the crowd pumped up with their hit song "Meant To Live". It worked; for the rest of the night the crowd stayed energized and involved in the show. The band's energy never faded throughout the entire set, with lead singer Jon Foreman running through the crowd, standing on the drumset, guitarist Drew Shirley pulling out some nifty solos, and bassist Tim Foreman laying down entertaining basslines. Switchfoot's setlist was a mixture of old songs like "Love Alone Is Worth The Fight", "The Sound(John M. Perkins Blues)" and "Where I Belong", and many songs from their new record, including the fast-paced "If The House Burns Down Tonight, "Where The Light Shines Through, the fun and bouncy "Float", the incredible song "I Won't Let You Go", and the hit "Live It Well". If you have a chance to see Switchfoot live, go for it! You will not be dissapointed!
My family has seen Switchfoot several times this year, including traveling from Michigan to Encinitas, California for BroAm! No matter how many times we see them, they never fail to rock the house! They go from super high energy songs to gorgeous ballads seamlessly. Tim Forman's first time performing a solo brought tears to almost every eye. Jon Forman makes you feel like you are part of the 'family' every concert, from coming into the audience to bringing the entire band off the stage to be closer to everyone. Last nights' Rock The Ribbon concert featured several musicians. A group of girls had not heard of Switchfoot before hearing them last night. During Switchfoot's performance they said they are now total fans and felt blessed to have been a part of it. From their rock concerts to their acoustic concerts they never fail to amaze and leave everyone feeling positive and happy!
Switchfoot at Red Rocks combines to make the ultimate concert experience. I have heard them Live many times and honestly I've never been disappointed with this band. Their lyrics inspire hope and their delivery is flawless.
Perhaps the standout quality I contine to cherish about this group is their ability to connect. They always seem to enjoy themselves as a group and their passion overflows to the fans. Jon Foreman is a consistent approachable artist who once again brought the audience into the experience by walking through the crowd while chatting like he's the guy who lives next door.
I never tire of this band. If you get the opportunity to hear them live - GO! You will never regret it.
Ever since I saw the movie A Walk to Remember I've been wanting to see Switchfoot perform live! After years of waiting they finally came to Amsterdam. I'm so glad I've seen them live. I didn't know what I could expect, but I was in for a treat. The singer, Jon Foreman, decided to come into the crowd and then decided to come upstairs. Luckily to the side where I was standing. During the song 'Love Alone Is Worth the Fight' he came upstairs and was passing by. I never experienced that, but the energy was crazy good!
Then he decided to climb the fence and people on the floor were grabbing him so he could come down. It turned into crowd surfing. It was really awesome to see!
Ohoho-ohohohohohoooo! Ohoho-ohohohohohoooo! Ohoho-ohohohohohoooo! Ohoho-ohohohohohoooo! Ohoho-ohohohohohoooo! Ohoho-ohohohohohoooo! Ohoho-ohohohohohoooo! Ohoho-ohohohohohoooo!
Ohoho-ohohohohohoooo! Ohoho-ohohohohohoooo!
This was such an amazing show!!! Relient K played first, and they were amazing!!! The amount of energy both bands had is unparalleled to anything I've seen before. During switchfoots performance something that really caught my attention was the antics that went on on stage. Jon, the lead singer, would sometimes sing from on top of the kick drum, which would put him about 15 feet up, and then jump down again. A really great show overall, and definitely two bands I would recommend.
I have been a Switchfoot fan for several years. When I found out they were coming to my college, I was very excited. My friends and I all got tickets and went together. The concert was fantastic. Not only do they put on a good, energetic performance, but their music is so full of meaning and it makes you think. This isn't just your typical shallow pop stuff. This is deep music with lyrics that make you look at your life and desire change.
The show was outstanding. They played 16 songs for about an hour and 45 minutes. Lead singer got off the barge stage and went into the crowd for like three songs. Very upbeat show. Lot of singalongs. Played Hey Jude and mentioned their experience at Songbirds, a local musical instrument museum. Singer said he loved our city. He didn’t like the Riverbend stage. Only true letdown was they didn’t play my fav Dark Horses!!
It was a great evening. Strangely, they played first but they still Killed it. Jon was he's usual fan friendly leader. He made his way several times through the crowd. They even kicked back to a song they haven't done for a few years. "Gone" I have seen Switchfoot several dozen times and have never been disappointed. If you ever have a chance to see them, Go. You wont be let down.

It united us and gave us a deep appreciation for each other and the people that showed up to sing with us. We’re so excited to celebrate the release of The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version) and the worldwide journey that we’ve been on ever since. Switchfoot to Tour With Blue October and Matt Nathanson in 2024
by Em Casalena April 10, 2024, 2:21 pm
How often do you get to see three headliners on tour? This year, Grammy-winning alt-rock band Switchfoot is kicking off a co-headlining tour with fellow rockers Blue October and Matt Nathanson for dates spanning the US from July to September. The Help From My Friends Tour will not feature any supporting acts (as of yet), which makes sense considering that there are three major bands headlining the tour.

The Help From My Friends Tour will begin on July 24 in Charlotte, North Carolina at Skyla Credit Union Amphitheater. The 30-date trek will close on September 7 in Seattle, Washington at Marymoor Live.

Switchfoot Announce The Beautiful Letdown Re-Recorded Edition, Share 2023 Tour Dates
The post Switchfoot Announce The Beautiful Letdown Re-Recorded Edition, Share 2023 Tour Dates appeared first on Consequence .
Another trip on the nostalgia train takes us to Switchfoot , who are commemorating the 20th anniversary of their biggest album The Beautiful Letdown with a re-recorded version, due out May 5th. Along with the announcement comes tour dates for Summer 2023.
Titled The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version) — following the method of Ms. Swift — the redux features re-recordings of the album’s top tracks like “Meant to Live” and “Dare You to Move,” among others. The original version of the album was meant to be the band’s major label debut, but unexpected issues led to them release it with an indie label to critical acclaim.
“The journey of The Beautiful Letdown reminded us why we started playing music in the first place,” the band said in a press release. “It united us and gave us a deep appreciation for each other and the people that showed up to sing with us.”
Hitting over 30 cities, the coinciding tour starts this August in Georgia with many dates around the south and a few throughout Midwest and West Coast cities like Detroit and Sacramento. Each night will see Switchfoot play The Beautiful Letdown in its entirety.
Pre-sale tickets for many cities will be available April 27th from 10:00 a.m. – 1o:00 p.m. local time via Ticketmaster (use code VINYL ), though some dates have pre-sales available now. After general ticket sales begin on April 28th at 12:00 p.m. local time, you’ll also find them at StubHub , where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. StubHub is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.
Switchfoot stayed busy over the last few years by co-headlining a tour with Collective Soul, releasing a covers EP , and livestreaming a concert from an air balloon.

Switchfoot, Blue October, and Matt Nathanson are excited to announce the triple headlining Help from My Friends Summer Tour, a 30-city run of dates beginning July 24th in Charlotte, North Carolina. Three of the most beloved and genuine artists of the new millennia, the performances will make for an enthralling evening with each artist’s set complimenting the other two. Fans can expect each triple-headlined show to be an unforgettable night.

“There’s nothing better than a summer tour with your friends,” states Jon Foreman of Switchfoot. “Can’t wait to see what kind of magic/mayhem/mischief happens once we get out on the road together!”
“When three incredibly hardworking bands with such a huge timeless catalog of songs can actually get together on one stage to celebrate life together, it is an experience I don’t want to miss out on, and neither should you. I can’t wait to bring all of our communities together to celebrate,” adds Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October.
“I’m so psyched to hit the road with the guys in Switchfoot and Blue October,” comments Nathanson, “there really is nothing like traveling the country and getting to play music with, and for, your friends all summer!”

The Beautiful Letdown 20th Anniversary Tour
2023 marks the 20th anniversary of Switchfoot’s seminal album, The Beautiful Letdown. The triple-platinum record included the chart topping hits, Meant To Live & Dare You To Move and changed the lives of the band members and a generation the world over.
The underdog success story of The Beautiful Letdown exemplifies Switchfoot’s iconoclast, grassroots approach- defying the odds of major labels and mainstream media. In fact, just before the album was released, Switchfoot was dropped from the major label they were signed to. It was only after millions of albums had been sold that the label was forced to support the band that had proved them wrong.
Drummer Chad Butler recalls, “Looking back, I realize the album was aptly titled – The Beautiful Letdown embraced a human story equally full of highs and lows.”
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Beautiful Letdown, the band realizes just how important that rollercoaster was. “The journey of the beautiful letdown reminded us why we started playing music in the first place. It united us and gave us a deep appreciation for each other and the people that showed up to sing with us. We’re so excited to celebrate the release of The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version) and the worldwide journey that we’ve been on ever since. We can’t wait to take these songs on the road and play the album front to back for the first time ever!”
