A bizarre Michelin restaurant in Copenhagen you have to try. A beautifully shot clip of dolphins that inspires you to book your dream vacation to Fiji . World-class museums and art exhibitions you have to see to believe. If you’ve planned a trip sometime in the past few years, chances are social media somehow influenced which destinations skyrocketed to the top of your travel wish list.

With more than 1 billion global active users (including more than 150 million users in the United States alone), TikTok ’s impact can’t be overstated, especially when it comes to travel. In April 2023, tourism marketing agency MGH conducted a survey of 1,139 U.S. TikTok users to evaluate how the app cultivates interest in travel. The study found that 60 percent of the users surveyed felt inspired to travel to a new place after seeing a video about it on the app. Meanwhile, 35 percent turned that inspiration into action, booking trips to destinations they saw on the app.

Thanks to recent data supplied by TikTok (collected by the company between January and December of 2023), we also know which destinations are rising through the ranks to become some of the app’s most popular escapes—and could, in turn, become 2024’s destinations to watch. According to TikTok, here are some of the cities, states, and countries whose hashtags saw the most growth on TikTok last year.

Country hashtags on the rise on TikTok

  • #Mexico: 180 billion global views
  • #France: 72.6 billion global views
  • #Japan: 53.7 billion global views
  • #Canada: 47.9 billion global views

#Mexico is the country hashtag to watch on TikTok

Garnering 180 billion global views in 2023, Mexico has seen a massive jump in popularity since 2022: Posts containing #Mexico saw an increase of nearly 60 percent.

It’s no wonder users are excited to share all the details of their trip: Mexico has something for everyone. Travelers can find arts and culture in Guadalajara , Michelin-starred meals in Mexico City, and luxurious beach resorts along both coasts from Cancun to Los Cabos , to name only a few of the country’s best places to visit .

City hashtags on the rise on TikTok

  • #Dubai: 76.8 billion global views
  • #NewYorkCity and #NYC: 54.6 billion global views
  • #Paris: 47.8 billion global views
  • #Miami: 32.1 billion global views
  • #LosAngeles: 22.9 billion global views

#Dubai views grew by 50 percent in 2023

Home to the world’s tallest building and a slew of other, equally dazzling architectural oddities, Dubai is one of TikTok’s fastest-rising cities of 2023—it defeated such beloved destinations as New York and Paris by tens of millions of views. Known for its world-famous skyline and peerless glamour (both occasionally contentious among travelers), there’s certainly plenty to talk about regarding the most populous city of the United Arab Emirates.

A quick scroll through #Dubai is a visual buffet of glittering mega-skyscrapers, designer outfits, and sand-surfing day trips, all of which easily catch the eyes of curious viewers.

U.S. state hashtags on the rise on TikTok

  • #NewYork: 42.4 billion global views
  • #Texas: 33.8 billion global views
  • #California: 32.3 billion global views
  • #Colorado: 6.4 billion global views
  • #Arizona: 7.9 billion global views

The #NewYork hashtag had 100 percent more views in 2023

Whether you’ve never set foot in the Empire State or you’ve called it home for years, chances are New York content has made its way onto your For You page in 2023.

Not surprisingly, New York City is easily one of the most well-documented destinations on TikTok. See the viral chaos of @SubwayCreatures and Caleb W. Simpson’s popular apartment tours with celebrities, influencers, and fascinating locals .

But it isn’t only the five boroughs that have gotten their fair share of popularity this year. A slew of other New York State destinations have received plenty of love from users in 2023, including laid-back hotels , small towns (and their sense of humor ), and impressive nature . The hype may be largely thanks to the autumn and winter months, when fall foliage and blankets of snow wow travelers. It may also be due to visitors from the city, who meticulously document their rejuvenating weekends away for the internet.

10 Fun TikTok Trends for Couples to Try Out When Traveling

T ikTok has opened up a whole new realm of creative possibilities, especially for destination reels and fun challenges to jump on with your partner in crime as you travel around the world. However, for new users, it sometimes becomes daunting to find these challenges, and to figure out how to execute TikTok travel trends. We’ve compiled 10 of the most popular and fun TikTok travel trends from couples all over the world for you to try out on your next trip.

Finger snap!

@nanocalderon97 🇲🇽Resumen de nuestro viaje❤️ #parati #viaje #mexico #viral #fyp #travel #couple ♬ original sound – Sisi

You’ve probably seen it, it’s all over TikTok and it’s one of those trends that just doesn’t die out. Why? Because it’s one of the easiest ones to execute without having to spend too much time on your phone when you’d rather be taking in the beauty of your surroundings… or enjoying each other’s company.

How to do it:

  • Remember to record a one-second clip of your hands finger-snapping in front of all the different places that make up your trip together.
  • Once you have all the clips you want to use, scroll through TikTok to find one of these videos. Make sure you use the search tool and use a travel-related hashtag, such as #traveltok or #travelcouple.
  • When you’ve found one, click on the audio, and make sure you save it to Favorites.
  • Now that you have the clips and the sound, all you need to do is head over to the ‘+’ sign, add the sound from your Favorites. Then add every finger-snapping clip from your library, and TikTok will do the rest with auto-sync.

Bungalow run-through

@anna.fack rate the view at the end!! would you stay here?!😍breathtaking! #borabora #funnycouplesgoals #couplesvideo #travelcouplegoals #travelcouplelife ♬ My House (Challenge Version) – Flo Rida

Heading to an amazing rental home with a pool overseeing some breathtaking views? You might love this one.

How to do it is easy enough. Hit record and grab hold of your partner’s hand and have them guide you across the bungalow and into the pool. Don’t forget to get a waterproof phone case to avoid a tech disaster.

  • Save the sound from a similar video to Favorites.
  • Have your partner take your hand as they record you running in front of them through the bungalow.
  • Jump with them in the pool, or let go of their hand as they record and jump in the pool.
  • Add clip and sound, auto-sync and publish!

Passport reel

@thattravelcouple Travel together Stay together Tag your travel buddy #thattravelcouple #travelgoals #foryoupage #foryou #fyp #tiktoktravel #travelcouple ♬ Jaymes Young – Happiest Year – 99

This is another one of those #traveltok trends that never seem to go out of fashion. All you have to do here is take a first selfie with your partner at the airport holding your passports and cover the camera with them slowly for the transition. All that’s left is making sure you’ve got some clips throughout the trip of each other wandering, eating, kissing, exploring. Smash it all together with the right audio and boom! You go viral.

  • Save sound from a similar video onto Favorites.
  • Make a selfie video at the airport of the two of you holding your passports.
  • Slowly move the passports in front of the camera until it goes black.
  • Hit on the ‘+’ sign and add the sound
  • Add the airport clip, and all the clips you want to add from your trip.
  • Auto-sync and publish!

One day, you’re gonna wake up…

@theglobewanderers Do what you have always wanted ❤️ #travel #travelbucketlist #life #motivation #wanderlust #travellife #travelcouple ♬ original sound – Jesse J. Pedigo

One of the great things about TikTok is that the sounds that can be used on your clips go way beyond a music library. There are thousands of inspirational quotes with a backdrop of calm music that are perfect for these videos.

Finding those quote-based sounds can be tricky. The most efficient way is to scroll through TikTok with the #TravelTok hashtag and save those sounds onto your Favorites. Some creators, such as Jesse J. Pedigo (@creatingwonders), specialize in making the quote sounds for other users.

There is a lot more creative freedom in quote trends because you can literally choose any and as many clips from your travels. Many creators choose to add subtitles for the quotes on the final video, but if you do this, remember you need to time the duration of each piece of text accordingly. It can be a little daunting, but in the end, it’s totally worth it.

  • Save sound to Favorites.
  • Upload the best clips from your travels together and add the sound.
  • Optional text: Add the captions to the quotes and sync the durations for the whole video.
@georginariba98 Made it #trip #couple #travel #foryou #parati #clap #2021 #fyp #plane #beach #sunset ♬ Home Cover by Lukmco – Luke

The concept for this one is the same as the finger-snapping one we first mentioned. Fist-bump your partner with different backdrops of your trips, smash it all together, add sound, and watch TikTok make magic happen.

  • Find a similar video and save the sound to Favorites.
  • During your trip, remember to record one second of your hands fist-bumping in front of all the different places that make up your trip together.
  • Head over to the ‘+’ sign, add the sound, and every fist-bump clip from your library and TikTok will do the rest with auto-sync.

“When are you having kids?”

@jessiwanders Don’t stop until you find your travel partner for life #travel #partner #goals #couplegoals #travelcouple #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #inspiration ♬ Originalton – Hi

This is one of my personal favorites, and one I’m sure many recently married couples out there will love, especially couples bombarded with that constant nagging question from everyone around them: ‘So when will you have kids?’

It’s perfectly fine to want kids, of course, but it’s also perfectly fine to not want them. And travel instead. So next time they ask, maybe having a TikTok answer just that, might do the trick.

  • First of all, make sure you have the audio for this trend saved to Favorites.
  • Then, find a clip of your wedding day, and add the text “Everyone: So when are you having kids?”
  • Add a series of clips of the two of you traveling around the world, and make sure to add the text: “Us:” for the duration of those snippets.

Clear water…Cheers!

@sydneyandavis Clear water #jamaica #bestvacations #travelingourplanet #living_destinations #travelcouple #honeymoon #beach #travel #tiktoktravel ♬ Supalonely (feat. Gus Dapperton) – BENEE

There is nothing quite like the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean. If you’re heading there together, raising a couple of champagne glasses is one of the easiest and classiest reels to up your game on TikTok.

  • Before recording, get your hands on a couple of champagne glasses.
  • Hit record as you both fill the empty glasses with that crystal-clear water, toast, and let the water fall back into the ocean.
  • Before uploading the clips, make sure you find a similar video first, and save the audio associated with it to your Favorites.
  • Add the clips and audio, and voilĂĄ.

Life is short, the world is wide…

@riotravelers Follow us if you love travel ✈️☺️ #travel #travelcouple ♬ original sound – ✨ ✨

This is another quote-sound that has recently been trending again. As we’ve already mentioned, you can pair these sounds with whatever clips you want, without having to pre-record anything specific for them.

Tip: Make sure you get some clips of your partner exploring as they hold your hand, selfies, bird’s eye views, the two of you toasting at a charming restaurant. Anything goes. The important part is to capture all those moments you don’t want to ever forget.

  • This is optional but you can also add the captions to the quotes and sync the durations for the whole video.

Traveling as a couple…wait for it

@thelucasfamily True or false? #couple #couples #couplegoals #couplecomedy #couplelove #travel #travellife #GetGrafting #holiday #vacationmode #viral #fyp #fypシ #fy ♬ Into The Thick Of It! – The Backyardigans

This is one of the more realistic TikTok trends, and it’s one that allows you to add in a personal touch. Traveling is not always daisies and sunshine, especially as a couple. What is it that best defines your travels together? Do they get annoyed because you’re asking for selfies every second step of the way? Are you the one who always gets lost unless you have your nose stuck to a map the whole time?

Find that thing that defines you as a couple, and own it!

  • Save the sound from a similar video to your Favorites.
  • Decide what defines your travels as a couple and re-enact it in a humorous way.
  • Add the text: “Traveling as a couple… wait for it” in the first few seconds of your clip.

All these years, all these countries

@kendallfuhrman being with you feels like this song I love you @alexcarvs #love #soulemate #abba #theboy #gooutside #couplestiktok #travelcouple #luca #bucketlist ♬ Chiquitita x Twilight – twibytez

One of the most defining TikToks you could take as a couple is a reel of all your travels together. This might be something you need to dig out some old clips for, but it will definitely be worth it.

  • Save the sound from a similar video into your Favorites.
  • Dig up all the clips of the two of you together from all the traveling you’ve done over the years.
  • On the first clip, you use, make sure to add the text: “-X- years and -XX- countries later.”

'I want to get there before it gets too touristy': How Gen Z is redefining travel

Eli Snyder is a full-time travel content creator on TikTok, a job that didn't exist just seven years ago.

Seven years ago, Eli Snyder’s job didn’t exist, nor would the 25-year-old feel confident about choosing a travel destination.

As a full-time TikTok travel influencer, Snyder is in Laos before spending the next couple of months exploring Vietnam and the Philippines. The Kansas City native then plans to leave Asia and venture into six South American countries, including Argentina and Chile.

To Snyder, travel is all about being “surprised,” and having his “preconceived notions about a place to be turned upside down.” Of course, connecting with the local culture and eating good food is a big part of it too.

“(Before, if you were) going to Mexico, you’re going to do an all-inclusive, but now you’re going to leave the coast and go inland to see the rural towns,” he said.

Snyder is inspired by fellow young content creators who travel to less touristy destinations – places his parents would never dream of going to. “There’s an emphasis on finding your own destination and spots rather than tourist hotspots,” Snyder said.

Younger people have always been scrappy as they seek to travel the world and discover themselves. After all, youth hostels have been around for over a century . “I think some things don’t change through generations: the fundamental appeal of travel is timeless, offering interesting perspectives of the world and hitting that recharge button,” said Will Jones, brand manager at StudentUniverse, a travel platform exclusively for students and youth.

Since most Gen Z members are just starting their careers, they have less disposable income to spend on travel and are usually seeking out the best deals.

“A lot of people in their mid-20s are interested in saving money when they travel, getting the most bang for their buck,” Naomi Schiller, 25, an administrative assistant at the Metropolitan Opera props department, told USA TODAY “I don’t have the money to throw around on awesome accommodations.”

However, Gen Z is finding new ways to travel. Gone are the days of partying until sunrise. “They’re leaning much more into the cultural side of things and away from the party type,” said Jones. The young generation has an increased desire to go off the beaten path and immerse themselves in the culture they’re visiting – and they can do that with the ubiquity of technology and social media.

Here are four Gen Z travel trends:

1. #TravelTikTok

Move over travel guidebooks and TripAdvisor, TikTok is the new place for young people seeking travel inspiration.

“A lot of inspiration comes from social media, like TikTok or Instagram reels,” Greta Redleaf, 20, a student at American University, told USA TODAY. Redleaf is in a study abroad program and said social media has been especially helpful as she explores new destinations on the weekends.

“I’m in Scotland right now, so I follow a lot of European travel accounts, and they sometimes post deals,” she said.

In the 2024 State of Student & Youth Travel Report by StudentUniverse, 89% of the 4,000 surveyed 18- to 25-year-olds – who are in full-time education and either live in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia – said they’ve found new destinations through TikTok, and 70% use TikTok as a trip-planning tool. Over The largest demographic of TikTok users is between the ages of 18 and 24, as of January.

Hailing from Sydney, Issy McDermott, 23, also sources her travel ideas mainly from social media. “When I was younger, I used to watch travel videos on YouTube,” she said. Now she uses TikTok and Instagram.

The vast majority of these Gen Z travelers seek to discover destinations untouched by mass tourism or not easily found. “Right now, I really want to visit Sri Lanka for a mix of the beaches and the more adventurous side,” McDermott said. “It’s kind of building up a hype on social media, so I want to get there before it gets too touristy.”

Snyder said the access and connectivity that social media offers mean “people are willing to go to places older generations would have considered too dangerous.”

2. Sobering up

“Unlike younger generations in the past, Gen Z is steering away from the typical young travel of partying,” Jones said. “They would rather experience a new culture and go sightseeing.” The most popular destinations among Gen Zers were found to be Italy and Japan, which are “more cultural places than the more traditional party places.”

According to the report, 83% of young travelers would consider taking a vacation without any alcohol to avoid unsafe situations. They also “would rather spend money on other things.”

“I have described myself in the past as a terrible tourist. I don’t usually travel with a strict, ‘I want to see this, this and this,’ ” Arthur Tisseront, 26, a video game dialogue writer living in Finland, told USA TODAY. “I usually try to find somewhere to stay that is reasonably priced but in a part of the city or town or area I’m in that will let me experience whatever older culture exists there.”

As more research reveals the harmful effects of alcohol, Snyder thinks more young people are going to be traveling sober “big time.”

For Snyder, alcohol is near the bottom of his priorities when it comes to travel. He recently spent a month in the Middle East with a friend and didn’t have a sip of alcohol, nor did he miss it. “Not once did that come across our mind,” he said. Alcohol is legal in some Middle Eastern countries, like Jordan, but not widely accepted. In others, like Yemen, alcohol is prohibited. “Although there wasn’t alcohol to be had, it wasn’t a deterrent.”

3. Embarking on their own

More younger women are also looking to venture out on their own. Over half of the surveyed women said they are interested in solo travel, with 83% of them inspired by female content creators who travel solo. Those who want to jet-set alone say it’s to get out of their comfort, for self-discovery and enjoy a sense of freedom.

An international business student in Syndey, McDermott has been traveling by herself for her summer break for the past two months. She’s spent the last three weeks in India, but she’s currently enjoying the “nice vibes”' in Goa.

“I’ve noticed a lot more people solo travel, and my mom and dad never did anything like that,” she said. “I’m a bit more adventurous when I travel. I like to see the culture and have unique experiences rather than see tourist attractions and prioritize comfort.”

She often connects with fellow young travelers at the hostel and joins them on excursions or doesn’t venture out alone at night, so she rarely feels unsafe, she said.

Not all Gen Zers agree on this, though. Some told USA TODAY they prefer using trips as a way to visit friends and family who live far away.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, "I wanted to be out traveling for work and pleasure, and I ended up stuck at home. I had a roommate move out, so I was by myself, and I want to get out there,” Brendan McPhillips, 24, a construction supply salesperson based in Denver, told USA TODAY. “(Solo travel) can be fun, but I found it kind of isolating, so I kind of looked at where I have friends and saying ‘hey, I want to come visit.’ ”

4. Train takeover

Gen Z travelers are also more interested in alternative modes of transportation, especially trains when they’re available.

“If there’s a train, I’m taking a train, it doesn’t matter if the train is 30 hours,” Snyder said. While the sustainability aspect appeals to him, the main reason is the “intimate connection with the countryside that you miss on a plane and bus because it’s so chaotic.”

“Ideally, for environmental reasons, I would prefer to take the train if I can, but unfortunately, a lot of times the train can be twice as expensive and twice as long as flying,” Emma Quinn, 26, a librarian in New York told USA TODAY. “My roommate and I are going from Chicago to California by train. That’s two days in a sleeper car, and that’s something I’ll pay a premium for because the experience is really good.”

Even so, the appeal of the deal can outweigh other concerns.

“I would love to travel more places locally on Amtrak or rail systems like that, but because of the price point and because of schedules or when they come and go, it usually winds up being by car,” Schiller, the Metropolitan Opera employee said.

McPhillips said that he relies on Frontier Airlines’ all-you-can-fly GoWild pass for a lot of his personal travel, which lets him get very cheap last-minute flights.

“People complain about Frontier and Spirit, but I’m kind of just expecting to get from point A to point B. That’s all I really want,” he said. “I want the cheapest ticket. I see people complaining about everything, and I’m like, ‘yeah, but you’re getting the lowest price.’”

Gen Z travelers also often want to find easy ways to get around once they’re in their destination.

“Renting a car sucks,” Tisseront, the video game dialogue writer, said. “If I can go to a place that will let me travel by bus, by tram, by metro, by train, by walking, however, some way that isn’t a car, that makes trips more justifiable to me.”

TikTok travel trends: The global spots that got most views in 2023

Dubai took the top spot for TikTok’s most popular city of 2023, defeating runner-up Paris by 29 billion views.

With more than 1 billion global active users (including more than 150 million users in the United States alone), TikTok’s impact can’t be overstated, especially when it comes to travel.

The study found that 60 percent of the users surveyed felt inspired to travel to a new place after seeing a video about it on the app. Meanwhile, 35 percent turned that inspiration into action, booking trips to destinations they saw on the app.

33 TikTok Travel Products So Good, You'll Never Leave Them Out Of Your Luggage

Neck pillows, cosmetic bags, and more TikTok-approved travel products you'll want to bring in a backpack, carry-on, or suitcase from now on.

Genevieve Scarano

BuzzFeed Staff

1. A water-resistant cosmetic bag  for anyone who needs to bring a bunch of beauty products. It'll help keep everything organized on trips, thanks to four roomy compartments and a hook that you can hang behind a door *or* on a closet rod. The best part? You can quickly find whatever you need and you won't have to repack it all when it's time to leave.

Promising reviews: " I saw this on TikTok and purchased it for my trip! Got back home and use it in my own bathroom. I love it that much! Best Amazon purchase I’ve ever made!" — Amazon Customer

"I bought this bag specifically for when I travelled across the country with my two small children. One of whom is a medically complex child. I put ALL of my toiletries, ALL their toiletries, and ALL of my son's medications in this bag. Everything fit perfectly, and nothing was broken. The hanger is durable and carried lots of weight when it hanged on the back of the bathroom door. I bought the largest size, and it was 100% worth what I paid for. If you are traveling by yourself, I would recommend the smaller size. But if you are packing for others or just pack heavy, definitely buy the larger size. I absolutely loved it! And it was very compact in my suitcase. Very sturdy as I carried it. I HIGHLY recommend buying." — Hannah Funderburk

Get it from Amazon for $24.99+ (available in two sizes and five colors).

2. A luggage-mounted cup caddy  that'll make it so easy to travel through a terminal with drinks and snacks. Two slots fit water bottles, paper cups, and  wrapped up food, so you can wheel your luggage and check texts without spilling anything.

Promising review : "This cup holder is perfect! It helps me a lot! Last time I took a plane with a suitcase and a cup of coffee, I dropped and spilled my drink everywhere when it was my turn to check my passport and ticket. It was a nightmare! This time, I bought this cup holder to do me a favor! I don't have to worry about where my cup and phone are! I can free my hands to do other things. I love it so much! Hope you love it too." — Philip

Get it from Amazon for $12.74+  (available in 21 colors and patterns).

3. A Trtl neck pillow  because you can finally rest in a plane seat without feeling uncomfortable. This cozy cocoon is adjustable, gently wraps around your neck, and prevents your head from bobbing side-to-side. Plus, it's space-saving, lightweight, and attaches to any luggage handle.

BuzzFeed editor  Ciera Velarde  owns this comfy pillow and said:  "I've used this for the past few years and swear by it! Before this, I always found traditional neck pillows uncomfortable and would end up ditching them halfway through the flight and getting frustrated. The Trtl pillow is adjustable — you wrap the pillow around your neck and secure it with Velcro, and  if you find it's too loose, just make it a bit tighter! I've truly never slept better on a plane than with this pillow. "

Promising review:  "Used it for a 14-hour flight to Japan last week, and it helped tremendously. This was the first time I was able to sleep on the plane so this helped tremendously. Definitely a must have for travel. It is very light so I was able to easily pack it in my under-the-seat wheeled trolley. I want to emphasize how much the light warmth of the fleece (and I don't like being hot) was just right to help me nod off to sleep. Since this is primarily for sitting upright in the seat or someone in the middle or the aisle seat, this was ideal for me. I just got back yesterday. Again I used it — this time for a 12-hour flight." — Ambience

Get it from Amazon for  $39.99  (available in three colors).

4. And a pair of  Mack's Earplugs  that'll help you say, "buh-bye noise" if you're trying to catch up on some sleep. These little babies comfortably contour to the shape of your ear and help block out sounds, plus they stay in place. Even if the plane is taking off and your seat buddy is talking a little too loud, you'll still drift off to dreamland.

Buzzfeed editor with silicone ear plugs in ear

Check them out on TikTok here .

BuzzFeed editor Emma Lord swears by these and raves: "The moldable silicone of  Mack's Earplugs  contours easily to the shape of your ear to block out noise much more effectively than other foam or plastic varieties, and the noise reduction is so good that if I pair them with a  white noise machine  (or just like a white noise loop on Spotify) I genuinely don't hear noises from outside my room. Not only that, but once they're in place, they stay locked there until you decide to pull them out.

Granted, I can still hear my alarm and like, if the fire alarm went off or something, I'd definitely wake right up. But noises that are distant and loud are pretty easily canceled out by these.

I've also *loved* these for traveling — if you put these babies in on a plane not only does it help reduce some of the YIKES factor when the plane takes off (it's loud!!), but it cancels out the murmuring noises of passengers on the flight and makes it easier to get some shuteye. " Read her full Mack's Earplugs Review for more deets!

5. A  hands-free (rotating!) phone mount  to turn your phone into a mini TV while you're traveling. It can mount on multiple surfaces, including tray tables, the arms of terminal seats, and luggage handles. Now you can stream Netflix or view videos whenever and wherever you want.

Promising review : "I bought this nifty gadget about six months ago for a multi-leg, ultra-long-haul trip, and it more than held up the entire duration . I was able to finagle it to fit the tray tables on different planes, and like others, I find the height just nice when clamped onto a stowed tray table . It also works on my roller carry-on handle during layovers. However, I find myself using it a lot outside of travel too! Work-wise, I've clamped it onto my office desk shelving to hold my phone at eye level beside my computer . At home, I simply clamped it to a deck of cards, and it turns into a versatile stand that I can place on any flat surface. Heck, I've been using it to hold my phone comfortably at eye level while watching videos in bed. It's extremely well built, and I find myself fidgeting with it all the time. Thus far it still feels solid, and I don't anticipate breaking it any time soon. Even if it does break, I'll be happy to buy another one or two of it!" — Earendil

Get it from Amazon for $12.97  (available in two colors).

6. And an  AirFly Pro wireless transmitter  so you can watch movies and TV shows with your AirPods on flights. Plug it into the seat TV screen, connect your earbuds, and you'll be good to go. No more packing flimsy headphones or having to pay extra for a pair while you're on board.

It also comes with a USB-C charging cable, travel pouch, keychain holder, quick-start guide, and a manual. Traveling with a family member or friend? They can also sync their earbuds to this gadget!

See one TikTok user using it with their AirPod Pros  here .

Promising review: "Ever since I purchased my wireless Bose earbuds, I always hated having to use another set when I was on an airplane with the seat-back entertainment system. I tried many different models to connect the system to my Bluetooth headsets until I came across this one, and it is amazing! It seamlessly connects to my headset, very clear and reliable audio, and it takes the stress away from having to carry multiple headsets! Thank you!!!" — Ryan Malloy

Get it from Amazon for $46.74+  (available in three styles).

7. A  Tide To-Go stain removing pen  that'll come to the rescue if you accidentally spill ketchup on your shoe or wine on a shirt. This pen is basically the definition of magic, because it'll help make stubborn stains *poof* disappear. Plus, it fits right in a jacket pocket or bag thanks to its small size!

Promising review: "These were a lifesaver. I was walking to the bus and decided it was a great decision to drink coffee while walking. Like a scene from an infomercial, I spilled coffee all over my white shirt. Yes, the classic coffee on the white shirt. Luckily I had one of these in my bag (I put one in each of my most-used purses in anticipation of my clumsiness). I went into a store bathroom and quickly scrubbed the Tide To-Go on my shirt. All of the coffee blobs went away and once the awkward wet splotches dried up, my shirt was perfectly white again . You've got yourself a big fan, Tide." — NAD

Get a 3-pack from Amazon for $7.74 .

8. An international power converter  because with it, you can juice up your devices and plug them in without outlet issues. This handy essential, which works in 150+ countries, comes with four different sockets, a 5-foot detachable power cable, and voltage converters.

Promising review:  "Prior to this purchase, we've killed an appliance or two in overseas travel. We bought the Sokoo Power Converter for a trip to the Philippines. It worked like a champ! We charged our iPhones and other high-end devices with peace of mind. My wife used her flat iron with this just fine. I like that it has plug adapters for outlets around the world, so I know wherever we go we can use this. I recommend this to anyone doing international travel." — David Aiken

9. A genius backpack  that's not your typical carryall, because it comes with cool features like a main compartment that fully unzips, a laptop sleeve, zippered pouches that'll easily fit toiletries, a roomy main compartment for four to five outfits, compression straps, and a trolley passthrough (a thick strap that loops around your suitcase handle) to make luggage transport a breeze.

BĂŠis is a woman-owned travel accessories brand founded by actress and entrepreneur Shay Mitchell. You'll find carry-on rollers, weekender bags, packing cubes, and more practical goods for your next trip!

BuzzFeed editor Chelsea Stuart owns this backpack and said: " I just bought this bag for a five-day cross-country road trip and it came in so clutch. First, I flew with it and was able to stow it under my seat so not only did I not have to check a bag, but I didn't even have to deal with overhead storage. Then, it traveled through 10+ states and various hotels with me. My absolute favorite parts of the bag are the compression straps and the fact that it fully unzips. This makes it *SO* easy to pack, unpack, and take through airport security. I was able to fit ~four pairs of leggings, four T-shirts, two sets of pajamas, two pairs of shorts, two bathing suits, a sweatshirt, a week's worth of undergarments, travel toiletries, an iPad, my wallet, and more odds and ends."

Get it from BÊis  or Nordstrom for $78 (also available in black).

10. Or a nylon  anti-theft backpack  with a hidden storage compartment and versatile design. It has plenty of room for tech devices and snacks, and keeps them concealed thanks to zipper access from the back. You can also wear it two ways: as a backpack *or* shoulder bag, thanks to comfy straps.

Promising review: " A must-have for traveling! This backpack is lightweight, has multiple pockets on the inside and outside for small items, and was so awesome for an eight-day vacation to Hawaii! Felt safe with my items in it and it was a great small personal item on the plane. Highly recommend!" — Marianne :]

Get it from Amazon for $34.99  (available in two sizes and 13 colors).

11. A luggage scale  because it can easily weigh your suitcase (up to 110 pounds) to make sure it doesn't go over the limit. This handy gadget fits in a bag or pocket, so you can pull it out and check your luggage on the spot. You'll be relieved you didn't have to pay an overweight baggage fee at the airport.

Promising review:  "This was a great buy! It’s saved me and my family time and money when we travel! I’ve even given it to friends to borrow so they don’t have to worry about the weight of their luggage when they get to the airport. It can be tricky to be accurate if you don’t hold it properly and stay still but even so, it’s possibly a pound or a few ounces off if you can’t hold it upright for too long. Definitely recommend this tool especially for the low price!" — Annette M.

It is so compact, so easy, and my husband enjoys entertaining everyone and showing them how small it gets. Promising review: "My family travels internationally which means lots of airplane transfers, rail, ferry loading and unloading. Each member has their own set. Only one cosmetic scuff has appeared. About to order another set for my mother as we are taking her to London, Scotland and Ireland for the holidays. We rarely use the middle size. The small size we carry on and the largest size we check. Very pleased with maneuvering and durability of wheels on various rough surfaces. The retractable handle makes for easy storage on ferries and railway. We’ve had zero issues with locking mechanism. We are a family of four with kids age 8 and 12." — ChiefLaughALot

reviewer image of the set of travel-sized containers, bottles, and accessories

You'll get four bottles, two jars, two spray bottles, two scoopers (to help transfer creams), one funnel (to help transfer liquids), one cleaning brush, a page of labels, and a bag that fits all the containers.

Promising review: "I’ve purchased a lot of different travel sets for my toiletries over the years. Inevitably, they are hard to fill and tend to leak. This set was magic! The wide mouth made it easy to fill from a larger bottle, and the little scoops made transferring creams to the jar containers very easy and with much less mess. The only con (hardly worth mentioning) is that once you squeeze the bottle, it takes a few minutes to expand with air again, so the sides are a bit sunken. I solved that by unscrewing the top just a bit for a quick release of the vacuum pressure. I had no leaks, and plenty of containers for every toiletry." — MDC

This travel shoe bag can hold up to three pairs of shoes at a time and a few more depending on your shoe size.

Promising review:  "Great for traveling! I’m visiting my sister end of March and I always over pack. I honestly probably only need two pairs of shoes but I’m taking extra for different outfits. I was able to fit my Minnie Mouse Vans in the larger compartment, and Tory Burch sandals and my Birkenstock dupes in this bag. I like that it all fits in one bag versus having three bags to keep track of. Also the carrying handle makes it easier to carry all pairs together. I can fit my boarding pass, passport, ID, credit cards, money, checked baggage tickets, receipts, and more in it, yet it doesn’t bulk up or look like an overstuffed mess. It's just amazing. The description says it only holds US money, but I just used the boarding pass flap to hold all my Japanese Yen, which are larger. I didn’t use the zippered pocket for coins as I much prefer a separate coin purse for that sort of thing. I definitely recommend to anyone who travels a lot!" — Anthony Luu

reviewer holding the pink circular travel shaver, showing the razor head it comes with

Promising review: " I found out about this razor on TikTok , and I’m officially obsessed! I’ve been using it for the last week, so here’s my honest opinion. I t’s perfect for missed spots or touch-ups, your gym bag, vacations , and I can see this being great for camping trips. The razor is not meant for full shaves or to replace your regular shower shaving routine, it’s very obviously for when you just need a quick touch-up here or there.

I love that it has everything you need for a close shave — the refillable water spray bottle, a shea butter moisturizing bar that doubles as a pre-shave lotion and an after-shave moisturizer, and two 3-blade razors. Who's in Favor of a Potential TikTok Ban?

Tiktok in the u.s..

As part of a larger national security and foreign aid package, President Joe Biden on Wednesday signed into law legislation that forces TikTok parent ByteDance to divest the U.S. arm of its popular social media platform within 270 days or be banned from operating in the United States. The “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act” seeks to cut any ties between TikTok , its current parent company and the Chinese government, which allegedly abuses the platform to “surveil and influence the American public” in a way that poses a threat to national security.

Compared to an earlier standalone bill that had passed the House in March but then failed to gain traction in the Senate, the newly passed bill extends the time given to ByteDance from 180 to 270 days, with the possibility of a 90-day extension if the president finds that significant progress towards a “qualified divesture” has been made. This means that TikTok’s Chinese owner now has until after the U.S. presidential election to find a suitable buyer, turning the question of whether or not TikTok should be divested or banned into a potential election issue. Sure enough, former president Donald Trump told young voters to remember that “crooked Joe Biden is responsible for banning TikTok,” when they vote in November, omitting the fact that he tried to ban TikTok himself during his time in office.

And while Trump was right in his view that young Americans would be more likely to oppose legislation against TikTok, he ignored the fact that the vast majority of Republican voters is in favor of a potential ban. According to a recent YouGov/The Economist survey , two thirds of Republicans strongly or somewhat approve the forced divesture/potential ban of TikTok versus just 20 percent who oppose such legislation. Democratic voters are almost evenly split on the issue, with 40 percent of respondents in favor of legislative action against TikTok and its parent company. Looking at different age groups, the trend is clear: the younger the respondents the more likely they are to oppose a potential TikTok ban, which is easily explained by the fact that young people are much more likely to be TikTok users .

So what happens next? If ByteDance fails to find a suitable buyer within the given timeframe, it would be unlawful for app stores and web hosting companies to distribute the app in the United States. Finding a buyer will be hard though, as any company with an interest and deep-enough pockets to acquire a platform of TikTok's stature will almost certainly face intense scrutiny from the FTC for antitrust reasons. It's also unlikely that ByteDance will go down without a fight. "Rest assured, we aren't going anywhere," TikTok CEO Shou Chew said in a video posted on Wednesday, claiming that the ultimate goal of the legislation is to ban TikTok, not sell it. "We are confident and we will keep fighting for your rights in the courts," he said, addressing the platform's 170 million U.S. users directly.

Mike pence praises lawmakers who voted for tiktok sale bill — as trump stands against measure: ‘prioritized us national security’.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Former Vice President Mike Pence will send a letter to every member of Congress who voted for the bill forcing the Chinese-government-linked ByteDance to sell TikTok, praising them for upholding national security “over that of deep-pocketed lobbyists,” The Post has learned.

The letter will be sent out Wednesday and will go to Democrats and Republicans who voted in support of the bill that passed the Senate Tuesday and was signed into law by President Biden Wednesday.

The bill will take about nine months for ByteDance to sell the social media company or be banned, but TikTok has already stated it will seek a legal challenge against the measure.

former Vice President Mike Pence speaks to reporters after his remarks at the Pray Vote Stand Summit at the Omni Shoreham Hotel on September 15, 2023 in Washington, DC.

In the letter, Pence stressed the link between TikTok and the Chinese Communist Party and highlighted the efforts of the Trump-Pence administration in issuing an executive order implementing the recommendation for TikTok to be sold.

He also argued TikTok has been influencing public opinion in the US.

“TikTok pushes content aligned with the CCP’s agenda. It’s no coincidence that TikTok was flooded with pro-Hamas and antisemitic videos in the aftermath of the October 7th attack,” Pence wrote in the letter, to be sent out by his org, Advancing American Freedom.

“I have no doubt that the current wave of antisemitism roaring across college campuses is being prodded on by the CCP’s control over TikTok’s algorithm. In voting to force the sale of TikTok, you rightly prioritized the United States’s national security interests over that of deep-pocketed lobbyists who sought to guide Congress to put their own financial investments over America’s best interests,” the letter reads.

“Again, I commend you for your vote and thank you for your willingness to stand up for the American people against the Chinese Communist Party.”

TikTok has over 1 billion monthly active users.

Pence has been a strong opponent of the social media platform and has long called it a “national security threat.”

In a Fox News op-ed published in March , he called the app “digital fentanyl” and said it allows the CCP to “manipulate the minds of young Americans at will and compromises the privacy of millions of Americans.”

The letter comes on the heels of former President Donald Trump telling his supporters, especially young voters, to be mindful that Biden was the one who signed the bill into law.

“Just so everyone knows, especially the young people, Crooked Joe Biden is responsible for banning TikTok. He is the one pushing it to close, and doing it to help his friends over at Facebook become richer and more dominant, and able to continue to fight, perhaps illegally, the Republican Party,” the presumptive GOP nominee wrote on Truth Social Monday.

“It’s called ELECTION INTERFERENCE! Young people, and lots of others, must remember this on November 5th, ELECTION DAY, when they vote! They also must remember, more importantly, that he is destroying our Country, and is A MAJOR THREAT TO DEMOCRACY!” Trump went on.

The former president first came out against TikTok in his executive order under his administration, but has recently come out against the Chinese government-linked company being forced to sell the platform , arguing it would only benefit companies like Facebook.

His change in policy appeared after reportedly he met with a major donor to his campaign, Jeffrey Yass, who has a 15% stake in ByteDance.

A series of glimpses of TikTok videos, including clips of dances, clothes, food and celebrity gossip.

In the coming days, Congress may advance a bill to ban TikTok or force its sale to an American company. Politicians in both parties call the app a threat to national security. But its reach is felt most acutely in our culture. Since it first arrived in the United States in 2018 (after merging with another app), its 15-second gulps of entertainment have become a fixture in the lives of tens of millions of Americans — including those who’ve never opened the app.

The engine that powers this juggernaut is TikTok’s recommendation algorithm, which figures out what users like and populates a customized feed of addictive videos. It’s called the For You Page, or FYP. It was not built to connect people with friends, the way Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat were. It was built to entertain.

As the app fights the most serious threat yet to its autonomy, my colleagues and I explored the ways that its innovation has reshaped American lives . In today’s newsletter, I’ll spotlight a few of them.

Hollywood. The film industry at first ignored and feared TikTok. But it eventually embraced the platform as a marketing tool for a new generation of moviegoers. The Sony romantic comedy “Anyone But You” drew a weak $8 million in ticket sales over Christmas weekend, my colleague Brooks Barnes, who covers Hollywood companies, writes. But “the movie turned into a full-fledged hit ($219 million) after TikTok users (at the urging of Sony) began making videos of themselves re-enacting the credit sequence.” The app is virtually a “ticket-selling machine,” he writes.

Schools. A few schools have removed bathroom mirrors because so many students were leaving class to film TikTok videos there. These clips constitute “a TikTok genre, dating back at least five years, in which students use school bathrooms as film sets for dance routines , lip-syncing clips or critiques of unclean lavatories,” my colleague Natasha Singer, who covers tech use in schools, writes. School bathrooms have also become “arenas to stage, film and post videos of bullying, physical assaults on schoolmates and acts of vandalism.”

News. For 14 percent of American adults, TikTok is a regular news source, up from 3 percent in 2020. People who don’t have traditional backgrounds in journalism, akin to bloggers for the TikTok era, aggregate and share information in snappy videos. Traditional news outlets are scrambling to catch up — and fretting about accuracy and context. Organizations including The New York Times are also making short-form videos in which reporters talk to the camera about their stories, the TikTok way.

Cooking. Recipes got a makeover on TikTok, as creators depart from static images and step-by-step instructions. My colleague Becky Hughes, NYT Cooking’s social media editor, writes that traditional recipes have given way to looser concepts. That has helped create trends like eggs fried in a puddle of pesto , sandwich fillings chopped into a homogenous mixture and mini pancakes served like cereal , she says. “The most shareable recipes are the ones that you can watch once, then turn around and make — no measurements, bake times or reading needed,” she writes. “Just dump, stir, like, follow, repeat.”

Our story also chronicles how TikTok has prompted self-diagnoses of ADHD and replaced window shopping at the mall. My colleagues looked at the app’s knack for spreading conspiracy theories, its fight with Taylor Swift’s record label and the secrecy around its algorithm. We hope you’ll spend some time on these articles, even if it’s only to check how many TikTok “microtrends,” such as glazed-donut skin and sleepy-girl mocktails, you’ve heard of.
