Happy death day is quite a mixture of Scream and Groundhog Day. With a psychopath killer a day on loop and with a lot of comedy. When a girl is killed, only to wake up again the same day from the start. She is on the search to find the identity behind the mask that kills her.

Tenet (2020)

Tenet, another sci-fi thriller blockbuster by Director and Writer Christopher Nolan. Presenting the classic trademark of it is said Christopher completed the screenplay of tenet in more than 5 years. A CIA agent is sent back in time to prevent World War III and bend the laws of nature. Only then he can succeed in his mission. Tenet is a 2020 sci-fi film that can easily come to top the list of best movies about time travel.

Meanwhile, Mr. Spock keeps James pinged as a rancorous Romulan from the future who makes ominous black holes to abolish the Federation one planet at a time.

Imagine being on a beach in Los Angeles under the sun, sipping cocktails. Seems like a paradise’s dream come true but not the same for two people stuck in the time loop and forced to go through the same time again and again. And it starts to seem like hell when they are stuck there to maintain somebody else’s happiest day. With a lot of humor, this movie is one of the best time travel movies on Netflix.

In this particular movie, Harry Potter and his friends must find a way to stop time and go back to change events in the past in order to save an innocent prisoner from execution.

Back To The Future Part II (1989)

Even though director Robert Zemeckis’s original film Back to the Future is intangible, the sequel of the film is nothing less. In the second movie, time travel is doubled up. Marty has to go to the past again to save the future, and also, he has to look out to not mess up and do any changes in this time travel and must avoid his previous self-visiting the past. It was a difficult screenplay only Zemeckis could pull off.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006)

Being a teenage girl, she kept leaping forward and back in time. Knowing little about how it’ll affect her and the people around her.

Pleasantville offers a very nice black and white and colored screenplay side by side. David is fascinated by a sitcom where everything seems to be perfect and without any violence. But when he and his sister get sucked into that 1950’s sitcom via magical remote, things were not as desirable as they seemed. Now they both must adapt to the lifestyle by oppressing their desires while trying to find a way home.

In 1948 when the USA government was doing experiments of making their ships invisible, due to some malfunction, they sent two of the soldiers 40 years ahead in the future along with the ship from Philadelphia. The movie is based on somewhat true experiences that actually happened during the experiment. There are books about it as well.

Somewhere In Time (1980)

Somewhere in Time is one of the most romantic movies, along with being on the list of best time travel movies. When an old lady comes to the playwright giving him an old pocket watch and asking him to come back to her, he is left in puzzles. After finding out about her being one of the famous actresses in the past, he uses self-hypnosis to travel back in time to meet her.

Time travel movies are always packed with fun, thrill, suspense, drama, and a lot of action. Whether the plot involves the characters traveling to multiple time dimensions throughout the film, or it’s a group of researchers just talking about it, these films give a perception of captivating facades of being human that coerce us to believe that nothing is impossible.

Netflix is the king of streaming platforms with an amazing collection of movies and TV shows. You can find movies in various genres ranging from horror to suspense and romance to action. I have compiled the best adventurous films to watch on Netflix listed here for you to explore.

This one’s my all-time favorite. I’ve watched it like 10 times or more (actually I’ve lost count). I never get tired of it. It’s that amazing. So we will have to begin our list of Best Indian travel movies with this film.

ZNMD is about three friends who set on a bachelor’s trip to Spain (which they had planned during their college) to overcome their fears. They inspire the viewers to plan a Spanish vacation as they road-tripped from Barcelona to Costa Brava to Seville to Buñol to Pamplona enjoying the famous La Tomatina Festival and taking on adventures like deep-sea diving, skydiving, and a bull run along the way.

I added the ultimate road trip through Spain to my Europe bucket list before even the movie was finished. The movie has all the ingredients to revive the traveler in you. This is one of the inviting Bollywood road trip movies that will want you to pack your bags and head off.

With a beautiful storyline of how three friends discover the beauty of their friendship and life while on a trip to Goa, the movie set a record.

Dil Chahta Hai features quaint beach towns, golden-sand beaches, palm-fringed coastlines, back-country spice farms, quintessential churches and forts, and mouth-watering Goa Cuisine. This movie has contributed a lot to tourism in Goa. The movie also showcases the iconic city of Sydney, Australia .

#10 Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)

The movie charms its viewers with the adorable characters of Naina and Bunny, the breathtaking landscapes of Kashmir , and the royal vibe of Rajasthan .

I took a trip to Rohtang Pass after seeing the snowy landscapes and a narrow road with snowy walls on either side of Rohtang Pass in Jab We Met. Such road trip movies in Bollywood do inspire you to add them to your bucket list. The two protagonists, Geet and Aditya look so adorable together that you can’t get enough of them.

I realized that trips that don’t have a plan and are spontaneous can be so much fun(risky though but hey life’s all about taking risks). Sometimes, it’s good to have no plan 🙂

The film is about a curious boy who embarks on an expedition to search for his lost father and meets the love of his life along the journey.

The movie starts in a beautiful hill station in West Bengal, Darjeeling , and later on, lets you explore some of the most unexplored parts of South Africa and Morocco .

#23 Rang De Basanti (2006)

The movie is based on a rebellious concept that tastefully blends the elements of history, patriotism, sacrifice, and politics. It’s primarily set in Delhi but also features the famous attractions in Jaipur and Punjab .

Remember that song ‘Masti Ki Pathshala’ from the movie? It was shot at the baoli in Nahargarh Fort in Jaipur . The beautiful mustard fields of Punjab make your heart crave to run through those fields of yellow mustard flowers. Apart from the unusual tale of an alien stuck on the earth, what caught my attention was the picture book city of Bruges in Belgium which served as a perfect setting for the love story in the first half of the movie.

The gorgeous canals, charming cobbled streets, and medieval buildings made me fall in love with Bruges . Did you know PK is the first Bollywood movie shot in Bruges?

The movie also takes you through some of the most intriguing sites in Delhi like Agrasen ki Baoli , Chandni Chowk , Connaught Place , and the colorful countryside town of Rajasthan , Mandwa . You’ll get a taste of the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan.

#25 Fanaa (2006)

I loved Fanaa. It features the stunning heritage sites in Delhi and the other-worldly beauty of Kashmir . The movie beautifully captures the best of both destinations.

In the first half of the movie, you’ll see the main protagonists exploring the architectural wonders in Delhi – Red Fort, Qutub Minar , Humayun’s Tomb , India Gate , and Purana Qila .

The second half of the movie features the snow-clad Himalayas, chinar trees, and quaint wooden houses in Kashmir .

#26 Kaal (2005)

Kaal is a thriller movie that’s shot in one of the most famous national parks in India or rather the world – Jim Corbett National Park . You explore the exotic wildlife and forests in India from the comfort of your couch as the mystery unfolds.

This is what I love about Imitiaz Ali. His every movie takes you to bucket-list-worthy destinations with his characters and casts a spell of travel on its audience. His movies Breathe, Dream, and Live Travel.

#28 Lootera (2013)

Lootera is a story set in the ’50s. The daughter of an aristocrat falls in love with a visiting archeologist from West Bengal without knowing a secret his life holds. It’s shot in quaint and laid-back locations in India – Khajjiar , Dalhousie , and Manikpur, West Bengal .

The snow-clad mountains, colorful wooden houses, lush meadows, striking deodar forests, and pretty lakes – Khajjiar pulls you as you appreciate the beauty it holds with every scene.

#29 Ek Tha Tiger (2012)

The movie is an absolute treat with some of the world’s most amazing destinations it’s shot in – Istanbul , Mardin , Havana , Bangkok , Phuket , Delhi , and Dublin .

Ek Tha Tiger is a story of a RAW agent, Tiger who travels to Dublin to keep an eye on an Indian scientist suspected of leaking nuclear secrets with ISI where he meets the love of his life, Zoya, a spy from Pakistan.

A traveler in you will also love its sequel, Tiger Zinda Hai which features beautiful locations across five different countries – Abu Dhabi , Austria , Greece , Morocco , and India .

One of the last movies of my all-time favorite actress, Sridevi – English Vinglish is a heartfelt story of a woman named Shashi who’s made to feel insecure and inferior just because she doesn’t speak English by her husband and daughter.

The film touches your soul as Shashi sets on a transformational solo journey to the Big Apple (NYC) to attend the wedding of her sister’s daughter. You can enjoy iconic sights and attractions in New York from Central Park, and Times Square to Brooklyn Bridge, and Fifth Avenue. The story revolves around a surgeon called Kabir Singh (Shahid Kapoor), who becomes self-destructive after his girlfriend Preeti (Kiara Advani) leaves him. Thanks largely to the commendable acting of Shahid, the film scored big numbers at the box office,  amassing over ₹379 crores  to be the second highest-grossing film of 2019.

To make it easier, whether you’re familiar with Indian film or not, here’s a list of gems from romance to action, modern and classic, to add to the top of your list.

Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (Hindi)

In this charming romantic comedy, star Shah Rukh Khan plays Sunil, an energetic young musician more interested in fun than school. A love triangle between Sunil, his friend Chris, and their mutual crush Anna is at the center of the plot, but the real heart of this movie is Sunil’s struggle to grow up and balance his passion for music with his father’s expectations. The boy’s emotional, bumbling journey into maturity and the dreamy atmosphere make this a special experience with more depth than your typical “boy chases girl” story. Filled with catchy songs, lovely cinematography, bright colors, detailed set designs, and fun ’90s fashion (plus, of course, some gangsters), Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa is a perfect comfort movie that gets better with each watch.

U-Turn (Kannada)

A mystery about traffic accidents might not sound exciting, but U-Turn is a strange and surprisingly dark thriller about a journalist who sets out to write about rule-breaking motorists and ends up investigating murder. It’s a nice twisty story with some real surprises, and especially worth watching because of its stark style — steeped in yellow-tinted nighttime lighting, the city streets take on an otherworldly quality, and a few scenes border on horror territory. The wild story is anchored by a strong natural performance from Shraddha Srinath, and the video footage shown during the end credits will give you a memorable chill.

Agneepath (Hindi)

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan gives a powerhouse performance in this intense action-drama about a gangster who spends his life obsessed with avenging his father’s death. Of course it has plenty of classic Bollywood elements — some comedic relief, fun dance numbers, outlandish action, and lots of melodrama — but Agneepath is first and foremost a cool crime thriller, genius because of how it will also break your heart.

Virata Parvam (Telugu)

A romantic political drama, Virata Parvam focuses on a young woman in 1990s Telangana who falls in love with a communist leader via his poetry. It works as a small-scale period piece about the Naxalite movement, but more than a history lesson, it is first and foremost a story of love and loyalty and how emotions and ideology intertwine. Led by brilliant actor Sai Pallavi, her radiant presence is full of a passion and purity that is mesmerizing throughout the film. The beautiful photography and music are the perfect background to this story that is both thrilling and heart-wrenching.

Angamaly Diaries (Malayalam)

This slice-of-life drama is an unexpectedly exhilarating piece of filmmaking that was a hit with both audiences and critics. The loose plot, about a tight-knit group of boys who go into business as butchers and get mixed up with crime, is a fairly simple framework to showcase a city in Kerala filled with good and bad extremes, vibrant lights and testosterone-fueled fights, young romance and simple folk music blending with ambient noise. Humor and violence are always perfectly balanced as one entity, and the natural performances from first-time actors combined with the expansive sound design and intimate camerawork make for a truly immersive experience — the opening credit close-ups of food and drink draw you in immediately. All of this energy explodes with a stunning 12-minute unbroken take of a chase through nighttime streets that is the perfect encapsulation of the movie’s “live fast, die young” heart.

Maya Memsaab (Hindi)

In this surreal adaptation of the novel Madame Bovary , Maya is a woman consumed with romantic ideals that lead her into disastrous affairs, and eventually her disappearance. Deepa Sahi’s wonderful performance as the radiant and strange Maya is pitch-perfect, and the cinematography is strange and gorgeous, mirroring her fantasies as well as her feeling of being trapped and deprived of passion. This abstract, sensual art house fare is one of the best films in any language Netflix has to offer.

Talaash (Hindi)

An atmospheric mystery about a cop investigating the death of a famous actor, Talaash doubles as an exploration of grief, depression, and a crumbling marriage, as the protagonist (brilliantly played by Aamir Khan) spirals deeper down into the case and his own personal demons. The moody magical-realism aesthetic and fantastic twist make this an enthralling watch, with some moments of stirring emotion stronger than your average crime thriller.

Muthu (Tamil)

It wouldn’t be a list of recommendations without superstar Rajinikanth — if you aren’t familiar with the massively popular Tamil hero, there’s no better time than now to get acquainted. This comedy about a servant and his master falling in love with the same woman is a silly, breezy introduction to his charms. Packed with wacky antics, over-the-top fantasy musical numbers, and a truly epic horse carriage race that very likely caused some real-life injuries, it’s impossible not to fall in love with Rajni in this feel-good adventure.

Dil Se.. and the films of Mani Ratnam

Beloved director Mani Ratnam is one of the few Indian filmmakers to achieve international critical acclaim and success. Dil Se.. is his most well known, and it isn’t hard to understand why. It’s a stunningly beautiful drama of politics and colonization masquerading as a star-crossed love story with some of the most unforgettable images and songs in Bollywood. Several of Ratnam’s other films are also streaming — the Hindi dramas Yuva and Guru , as well as Tamil classics Bombay , Kannathil Muthamittal , and O Kadhal Kanmani . All six are well worth your time, and if you haven’t explored Indian cinema yet, his filmography is a great way to begin.

Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om

Two of Farah Khan’s four directorial outings are available to stream, and both are simply magical. The longtime choreographer who helped popularize some of Bollywood’s biggest stars also has a wonderful talent for directing, and her films are perfect if you need a pick-me-up. Khan’s most prominent skill is her deft way of weaving together classic tropes and references — filled with cameos and meta in-jokes, they are the work of someone deeply in love with the art of cinema, her various obsessions effortlessly blended into her own signature style. Main Hoon Na is the story of an army major who goes undercover at a college, and Om Shanti Om is an epic of romance and reincarnation following a young man whose life is changed after he encounters his favorite actress. Both have plenty of comedy, romance, action, and joy — plus, the more you learn about Bollywood, the more rewarding they’ll be on rewatch. Make sure and stick around for the end credits!

Dev.D (Hindi)

The Bengali novel Devdas , about a man who descends into depression and alcoholism after losing the woman he loves, has had several screen adaptations, but Anurag Kashyap’s Dev.D is a very different beast. Taking place in modern times, Dev.D follows Dev, a spoiled young slacker who turns to drugs after breaking up with his childhood love, and who eventually meets a similarly haunted sex worker who changes his life. Dev.D is a very black comedy laced with drugs and abuse, with a colorful and deranged energy that plays almost as a parody to its lavish predecessors. The subversive retelling pushes back against the reverence for its tragic hero, while still offering the possibility for forgiveness and redemption. This subversive film with a huge cult following still feels fresh and raw over a decade after it was released.

Amrapali (Hindi)

A period piece rich with detailed costumes and sets, Amrapali takes place in 500 B.C. and is the story of an insatiable king determined to ruthlessly conquer every city he can. Along the way he meets the dancer Amrapali, played by the radiant actress Vyjayanthimala, who eventually makes him question his values. Somewhat of a flop on release, this film is heavy with the erotic energy of violence, power, and hypnotic classical dance that play beautifully today.

Andhadhun (Hindi)

Andhadhun was such a hit on release that it already has two remakes, with a third in the works. The story of a blind musician getting dragged into a murder mystery with a femme fatale is pure Hitchcock, and this is the rare homage to the master that blends classic and modern techniques in a way that doesn’t feel tired or derivative. Not only does it deliver big on surprises, it’s impeccably shot and performed, with leading actors Tabu and Ayushmann Khurrana deftly switching from suspense to dark humor with a depth not usually found in the genre. This will appeal to anyone looking for something offbeat, and those who miss the formerly dime-a-dozen thrillers of Hollywood.

Jodhaa Akbar (Hindi)

A true epic, this drama set in the Mughal Empire in the 16th century has everything you could want from a big-budget period piece. Royal intrigue, lavish costumes and sets, great music, and action are the perfect backdrop for the longing romance between gorgeous stars Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at its center. They truly don’t make them like this anymore — the big budget dedicated primarily to aesthetic pleasures and the slow burn of both a relationship and an empire in turmoil is a pleasure to sink into and escape for a few hours.

However, most Hindi movies on Netflix belong to this decade, and it’ll be hard for you to come across extremely old, classic titles from the golden era. That said, the streaming platform has done an excellent job of accumulating some lesser-known but brilliant independent and original Hindi films. You will also find several Hindi box-office hits and timeless titles that never get too old to revisit. The movie takes many creative liberties with the actual life story of Gangubai, but those don’t hurt the overall plot. If you didn’t catch this film in the theater, you must take the opportunity to stream it on Netflix.

His quests get him into trouble with various religious preachers, one of whom possesses the device he is after and refuses to give it back to him, claiming it was “a gift from god”. The film is sure to make you laugh till your tummy hurts, and the emotional finale will remind you what it really means to be a human. Definitely one of the most rewatchable movies on this list.

Baahubali (2015)

Baahubali is one of the most successful Indian movies that is actually not from Bollywood. Originally filmed in Telugu and Tamil languages, it was dubbed into Hindi and broke the Indian box office. Taking inspiration from the Indian epic Mahabharata , the story is divided into two films: Bahubali: The Beginning and Bahubali: The Conclusion , both of them equally enjoyable and satisfying. It tells the story of an ancient kingdom of Mahishmati, where the rightful heir to the throne is forced to live in exile after his uncle tries to kill him as a baby to capture the throne. He is rescued by some villagers, who adopt him and raise him as their own son.

Two decades later, he accidentally stumbles upon the story of his past while trying to help his crush, who happens to be a member of a rebel group that is trying to rescue the queen, his mom, from captivity. The unbelievable twists and mesmerizing VFX keep you hooked till the end of the second movie, and will make you feel like you are reading directly from the pages of an ancient manuscript.

Khoobsurat (Beautiful) (2014)

Khoobsurat is the Indian version of a Disney princess story. Yes, you heard it right! Produced under the Walt Disney banners, Khoobsurat is loosely based on the 1980 film of the same name. The film narrates the story of a young and lively physiotherapist, who gets a job offer to work for an Indian royal family, but the dull and strict environment at the palace depresses her. She tries to breathe life into their sad lives with her hard work and cheerful demeanor, but things don’t always go her way. While working at the palace, she falls in love with the young prince but gets rejected. However, her efforts begin to bear fruit as the family slowly gets back together in a fairy-tale fashion and brings a smile to everyone’s face.

Pad Man (2018)

Pad Man is the story of an Indian hero, but not in the sense you might think. In several rural Indian households, menstruation is seen as a taboo subject, much like everything related to sex, and is something that is looked down upon. Due to the lack of proper sex education, women often have to face unhygienic conditions, and sometimes it goes to an extreme, where they are kept away from the house during the days when they need their families the most. Periods are seen as something impure, a woman’s fault for being a woman, and our hero sets on a journey to change those views.

The film is inspired by the life of a real-life social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham , who sets out on a quest to learn how to make affordable, reliable, and hygienic sanitary pads after seeing his wife suffer due to the lack of education and a chronic case of superstition in his family and village. The story is a saga of true love and dedication set in a more realistic rural world and inspires you to take a stand against similar social issues.

Drishyam (Visual) (2015)

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran

One of the best-written Indian films, Drishyam is one of a kind crime thriller that will keep you glued to your TV screen till the very end. A remake of the 2013 Malayalam-language film of the same name, Drishyam tells the story of a father’s ordeal to protect his family, and the lengths he is willing to go to do the same. The family is held suspect in a criminal investigation, the murder of the son of Inspector General of Goa Police. They are scrutinized and tortured by the police but to no avail. The story slowly unfolds through various gripping twists and turns, much like an episode of CSI , and will make you chow down on several helpings of popcorn in anticipation by the time you reach the end.

Jodhaa Akbar (2008)

Run Time: 3 hr 33 min | Genre : History Romance | Director: Ashutosh Gowariker

Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonu Sood

A historical movie at its core, Jodhaa Akbar mixes elements of fiction and romance and takes you back to the medieval period when Mughals ruled over much of India. It narrates the story of the Mughal Emporer Jalal-ud-din Muhammad Akbar and the Hindu Princess Jodhaa Bai, who are married as a result of diplomatic ties and territory expansion between Mughals and a section of the Rajputs (warrior kings of Rajasthan, an Indian state). Akbar has been portrayed as a ruthless conqueror by some and a brilliant statesman by others in history books, but here you see his romantic demeanor as he gradually falls in love with Jodha Bai. The film is filled with great action, VFX, amazing scores, and an intriguing plot line, making it one of the best Indian historical movies to date.

Taare Zameen Par (Like Stars on Earth) (2007)

Taare Zameen Par is a psychological drama and proved to be an educational film about dyslexia at a time when there was not much awareness about the disorder in India. The film tells the story of an 8-year-old dyslexic child, who is misunderstood by his family for failing in class, labeled as good-for-nothing by them, his teachers, and his friends. He is admitted to a boarding school as punishment, where his life changes after he makes a friend and meets a new teacher, who himself has suffered through the same problem. The teacher discovers his hidden potential in arts and brings out the best in him by working together, functioning as a guiding light. This film is an eye-opener to the struggles dyslexic individuals, especially children, face in real life.

Kal Ho Naa Ho (Tomorrow May Never Come) (2003)

Kal Ho Naa Ho is a romantic drama with a tragic underlying story. It tells the story of a pessimistic young woman studying in the US, whose father killed himself when she was young and has been depressed ever since. Her life is changed with the entry of her new next-door neighbor, who teaches her the meaning of life and alters her views. They both fall in love, but he refuses to admit it because he has a fatal heart condition and does not have long to live. He tries to hook her up with the girl’s best friend, who he knows is secretly in love with her, and believes will take good care of her after he is gone. The movie goes through several transformations in its tone, from bleak to comic, hopeful to tragic, but ends on a sweet note: “Make the most of your life today, because there may not be a tomorrow”.

Saaho (2019)

If you are looking for an awesome action-thriller laced with a carefully concocted mix of suspense and mystery, Saaho is exactly the film you should watch. One of the most expensive Indian films ever made, Saaho was filmed simultaneously in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi languages. The movie depicts the story of Saaho, the son of an underworld boss, who carefully orchestrates a plan to avenge his father by going after the rival gangs responsible for his death. He tricks the police into helping him, fights off hoards of bad guys like a superhero, and rises to power after killing off his father’s murderer. With several unexpected twists and turns, popping item numbers, and out-of-the-world action sequences, Saaho is a wild ride and sure to keep you entertained for over two and a half hours!

The film shows what goes through the minds of the victims and their family, and why stricter laws are necessary to prevent crimes against women. Mom is the story of a mother’s crusade, seeking justice for her young stepdaughter after she is sexually assaulted by a group of men after a party. She is failed by the judiciary system after the criminals are set free due to the lack of evidence. She goes after them herself, exacting revenge for her daughter, with some help, and shows why a mother’s love is second to none.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (Toilet: A Love Story) (2017)

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is a satirical comedy that highlights the dire situation of the lack of proper sanitation facilities in Indian rural areas. It tells the story of a young man from an Indian rural area who falls in love with a city girl, and the couple moves to the village after they marry. The village is quite under-developed and its residents are uneducated and superstitious, and the government’s negligence only makes the situation worse. The spouse is horrified by the lack of proper toilets in her house and in the village and files a divorce. The case attracts media attention which ultimately forces the government to build proper sanitization arrangements in the village. The love birds manage to reconcile and encourage you to take a stand against similar practices that we often ignore due to negligence.

Main Hoon Na (I Am Here) (2004)

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Sunil Shetty, Amrita Rao, Zayed Khan

Bollywood is known for its masala movies, i.e. films that don’t belong to a specific genre but flaunt a mix of action, romance, comedy, drama and are lined with iconic item songs. The movie narrates the story of a young Major in the Indian Army, who is sent back to college on two missions: One, to protect the daughter of his senior officer, and Two, to reconcile with his stepmom and stepbrother after the death of his father. His journey takes him through several amusing, romantic, and Rambo -like adventures until he finds the person responsible for his father’s death. Main Hoon Na will surely make you miss your college days, or make you wish you had attended one, and the amazing dance numbers will force you to get off the couch and shake a leg with your loved ones.

Shaandaar (Magnificent) (2015)

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Pankaj Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor

Shaandaar is a rom-com drama that primarily focuses on the importance of self-worth. Arranged marriages are quite common in India and the entire film circles around the concept. A young orphan girl who suffers from terrible insomnia is adopted by a rich businessman, whose wife and mother hate the idea and think she is a bad investment. She grows up to be an amazing person under the care of her adoptive father and sister, who dote on her.

However, the family goes bankrupt, and the biological daughter is asked to marry into a wealthy family in hopes of getting some financial stability. She agrees, and the marriage arrangements begin to take shape until she meets the guy she is supposed to marry. He is a condescending fitness freak, who constantly fat-shames her and is quite disrespectful towards her. With the help of her adopted sister and the event organizer, she learns to value herself and ultimately calls off the wedding.

New Releases on Netflix & Top 10 Movies & Series This Week: April 19th, 2024

13 new movies and 15 new series dropped on Netflix this week headlined by the new Rebel Moon movie.

It’s time for another rundown of everything new to have hit Netflix over the past seven days. We’ll also take a look at what has been picking up the most points in the daily top 10s in the US. Let’s run through all that and more below.

Best New Movies and Series on Netflix This Week

Anna (2019).

Rising to the top of the charts following its debut on Netflix on Tuesday is the action thriller Anna , which features an all-star cast and should be perfect if you’re in the mood for some dumb action over the weekend.

The plot revolves around a KGB assassin who’s gone undercover as a model in Paris but ultimately gets caught.

Rust Creek (2018)

Rating:  R Language:  English Genre:  Action, Crime, Drama Director:  Jen McGowan Cast:  Hermione Corfield, Jay Paulson, Sean O’Bryan Writer:  Julie Lipson, Stu Pollard Runtime:  108 min / 1h 48m

If you’re looking for a movie with some critical acclaim backing it up this weekend, we recommend giving Rust Creek from IFC Films a go.

The survival drama follows a college senior on her way to a promising job interview, but after taking a wrong turn, things go south quickly, seeing her pursued by a band of outlaws.

In her review for Collider , Haleigh Foutch gave the movie a B, saying, “By taking the time to breathe life into these characters, Rust Creek makes a unique and worthwhile entry in the genre that puts a premium on heart and humanity over horror.”

Black Sails (Seasons 1-4)

Originally meant for release on Netflix in January, we’re taking the stance that it’s better late than never that all 38 episodes of the swashbuckling drama, which is absolutely stacked with talent, came to Netflix.

Originally airing on Starz, the series is set before the events of the classic tale of Treasure Planet, which tells the story of a captain defending his island.

Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver (2024) Netflix Original

Rating:  PG-13 Language:  English Genre:  Action, Adventure, Drama Director:  Zack Snyder Cast:  Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Anthony Hopkins Writer:  Shay Hatten, Kurt Johnstad, Zack Snyder Runtime:  122 min / 2h 2m

Finally, we would be remiss not to mention the movie Netflix cleared the decks for this week. We’re referring to the sequel to Rebel Moon , which debuted over Christmas.

Set to bookmark the first movie’s events (although it sounds like Snyder wants to keep this going forever – unlikely if you ask me); we find Kora and the surviving warriors planning to go up against the full force of the realm.

Reviews are ultimately mixed to bad so far for the new entry, but our reviewer, Andrew Morgan, actually was far more praising than I expected , concluding:

“While the first half is tough to plow through (purposeful farming pun), the second half grabs its audience with high-powered battle scenes that give way to an engaging showdown between Boutella’s Kora & Skrein’s Admiral Noble. While you will wonder why they didn’t just condense things to make one tighter, action-packed film, at least this sequel is a step up from its predecessor.”
