Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA)

As one of the oldest organizations in vintage racing, and the only one with a national presence, SVRA is committed to presenting the best possible experience for our competitors and fans. From 200 MPH Indy and Formula 1 cars to classic Jaguars and Porsches, our events provide a rolling history of motorsport where the cars are the stars at legendary tracks across the country such as Watkins Glen, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Sonoma Raceway, The Circuit of the Americas, and Portland International Raceway.

For competitors, SVRA provides a complete weekend of events and activities with lots of track time and a full slate of sprint and endurance races, as well as off-track activities.

For spectators, the paddock area is all always “open” at no cost beyond admission, offering a level of access to cars and drivers not available in most other forms of motorsport.

SVRA is the largest and one of the oldest Vintage racing organizations in the United States. Originally called the Southeast Vintage Racing Association, the organization was founded in 1978 by Ford Heacock III following the success of the Kendall Vintage Grand Prix held as part of the annual 12 Hours of Sebring. With an initial membership of approximately 25 drivers and supporters, the organization has become the premier vintage racing organization in the United States with over 2,500 licensed competitors.

tour vintage

Founded in 1978, SVRA is the largest vintage racing organization in the United States.

Currently, SVRA conducts Vintage events at legendary race tracks throughout the country including Road America, Sonoma Raceway, Watkins Glen International, Auto Club Speedway, and Virginia International Raceway.

In its first year the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway immediately became the largest Vintage race in the U.S. drawing over 700 entries. Additionally, The U.S. Vintage Racing National Championship at The Circuit of the Americas has become a premier event drawing hundreds of competitors each fall.

tour vintage

SVRA events provide wheel to wheel competition with similar cars, of the same era, restored to a condition consistent with their original, as-raced, specifications.

tour vintage

At the heart of SVRA are the core values that our events will provide; Safe, Fair and Fun competition for the enjoyment of our spectators, competitors, crews and fans.

SAFE:   Our events feature a century of Classic and Historic racing cars, restored to their original racing specifications and livery, but equipped with state of the art safety equipment and the latest driver protection gear. Our professional staff is on hand at each track to verify the presence and operation of this equipment. On track driver behavior is closely monitored to insure close competition while maintaining the spirit of sportsmanship that is a hallmark of Vintage racing.

FAIR:   SVRA events provide wheel to wheel competition with similar cars, of the same era, restored to a condition consistent with their original, as-raced, specifications. Pre-race inspections and post- race follow-ups ensure that the preparation of each car is in accordance with the appropriate rules for its category and making sure that the only on track advantage lies with the driver.

FUN:   Our weekends provide a variety of activities designed to provide a fun experience for all involved. Car shows and a wide variety of vendors provide spectators with activities to fill the gaps between on track action. The “open pits” at all SVRA races allow spectators the chance to get up close and personal with the cars, drivers, and crews providing an experience unparalleled in other forms of motorsports.

11 Beautiful Vintage Train Rides In The U.S.

Climb aboard for a trip back in time with a ride along the rails on a vintage train. Once the transportation of the future, trains replaced covered wagons to take people west and ended the need for the Pony Express. A victim of modernization itself, passenger trains have been replaced by cars and airplanes. Today, riding a train offers a relaxing, fun, nostalgic experience while offering beautiful scenery.

My family has always enjoyed touring transportation museums and enjoying rides aboard so-called iron horses. Here’s a look at some of the best vintage train rides across America.

1. 1880 Train, Hill City, South Dakota

The Black Hills of South Dakota have long been cherished for their natural beauty. However, when gold was discovered in the 1870s, it set off a series of events that led to the forced removal of Native Americans, who had been promised the land because of its cultural significance. As the area developed, a railroad was constructed, running from Keystone to points in the Hills. Today, you can take in the sights of the old lumber and gold mining operations as you travel almost 10 miles from Hill City to Keystone aboard the 1880 Train . You’ll travel through a beautiful forest and open mountainside. The trip even includes a steep hill climb. Your ride aboard the steam engine-led train includes your choice of passenger car, from an enclosed car with cushioned seats or wooden benches with open windows. The 1880 Train offers round-trip and one-way rides between Hill City and Keystone. You can catch the train from either city’s train depot.

Pro Tip: The 1880 Train runs the trails from mid-May until mid-October.

North Shore Scenic Railroad.

2. North Shore Scenic Railroad, Duluth, Minnesota

Your trip along Lake Superior aboard the North Shore Scenic Railroad begins with a self-guided tour through the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, which offers a look at the region’s rail history. Once aboard the train, you can sit in enclosed cars with individual seats or take in the views from an open-air car with bench seats. As you travel along the north shore, you’ll be a few feet from Lake Superior, which offers amazing views of an ocean-sized Great Lake. A narrator relives the region’s history as you travel through wooded areas as well as small, picturesque communities en route to Two Harbors, a scenic lakeside town. North Shore Scenic Railroad offers a variety of trips along its 28-mile route.

Pro Tip: The North Shore Scenic Railroad rides the rails mid-May through October.

3. Great Smoky Mountains Railway, Bryson City, North Carolina

Explore western North Carolina aboard a train powered by steam or diesel on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad . Hop aboard a comfortable, enclosed dining car and enjoy a delicious meal as you travel through the Nantahala Gorge or beautiful forests and as you pass through the Cowee Tunnel en route to Dillsboro, a historic town where you can do a little sightseeing or enjoy a meal. Your ride on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad can also be experienced from an open-air car.

Editor’s Note: For additional Smoky Mountain inspiration, consider our picks for eight beautiful smoky mountain hiking trails here .

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

4. Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, Akron, Ohio

As the only railroad operating within a national park, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad features vintage train cars, from the locomotive to each passenger car. You can enjoy a meal inside a glass-domed dining car or sit in a classic passenger car. The train takes you through Cuyahoga National Park , alongside the Cuyahoga River. During your trip, you’ll take in the amazing views of the park’s forest as well as wildlife, including a beaver marsh and otters. A second route takes you to the Hale Farm, a living history farm that depicts life during the 1800s. You’ll tour classic farm buildings, see farm animals, and even watch cooking demonstrations using utensils common to the era. The railroad also hosts special dining excursions.

Pro Tip: Plan to spend 3 to 4 hours for your experience aboard the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

5. Cape Cod Central Railroad, Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Traveling over 27 miles of the former New Haven Railroad, Cape Cod Central Railroad takes you along sand dunes, cranberry bogs, and marshes as you experience areas of the cape that can only be seen by train. Using vintage locomotives and passenger cars, Cape Cod excursions depart from Buzzards Bay and Hyannis. Dining and lounge cars date back to the 1930s and ’40s, as well as a club car from 1917. Cape Cod Central Railroad also hosts special events and holiday-themed trips. Running June through October, you’ll want to plan 2 hours for the round-trip adventure.

Boone Scenic Valley Railroad.

6. Boone And Scenic Valley Railroad, Boone, Iowa

Travel back to the 1920s as you board a coach car to travel from Boone to the mining town of Fraser on the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad . Besides coach cars, you can enjoy your tour from a bi-level commuter car or an open-air car. As you travel through the river valley to the old mining town, you’ll see a different view of Iowa as you pass through heavily wooded areas. Lunch and dinner tours are also popular with train riders. The Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad operates from Memorial Day weekend through October.

Pro Tip: Passengers are encouraged to arrive an hour before their tour. Ride tickets include admission to the James H. Andrews Railroad Museum, where you can learn about the history of Iowa’s railroads before or after your train ride.

Royal Gorge Route Railroad.

7. Royal Gorge Route Railroad, Canon City, Colorado

Travel 1,000 feet below the mountains on this train ride. The scenery of southeastern Colorado alone is worth a ride on the Royal Gorge Route Railroad . But, toss in the history that a vintage train brings, and your Royal Gorge experience becomes a bucket-list trip. Heading out from Canon City, you’ll pass alongside the Arkansas River as you travel through the canyon, looking up to the Rocky Mountains on either side. Enjoy your ride from the comfort of a dining car on one of the four dinner options, or catch a ride in a coach car. You’ll definitely want to spend time in the open-air cars soaking up the majestic views. Arrive early to check out the Santa Fe Depot before your adventure. Passengers should plan to spend 2 to 3 hours on the round-trip tour.

Editor’s Note: Find more area inspiration in our g uide, How To Spend A Day At Royal Gorge .

8. Kansas Belle Dinner Train, Baldwin City, Kansas

Offering dinner train rides on Saturday evening and a Sunday afternoon lunch tour, the Kansas Belle Dinner Train only operates on weekends. With the Saturday tour offering a romantic dinner menu, you’ll often find diners dressed a little more formally for this 3-hour train ride. The Saturday trip features a five-course meal, from appetizer to dessert, with entrees that feature prime rib, Cornish hen, and fish. As you enjoy your dinner excursion, you’ll pass through the Kansas countryside. The Sunday trip is more family friendly, with a casual environment and a three-course meal. The dinner train also offers a children’s menu.

9. Cass Scenic Railroad, Cass, West Virginia

Traveling the same line from when it was built to support logging in 1901, the Cass Scenic Railroad traverses 22 miles over a 4.5-hour round trip that takes you almost 2,400 feet in elevation to Bald Knob on the second highest peak in West Virginia. During your travels, the steam-powered locomotive takes you past some of the most beautiful views on the Appalachian Mountains. You’ll see spruce trees among the dense forest, as well as valleys and other mountain peaks. While in Cass, check out the historical buildings and stores at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park .

Pro Tip: The Cass Scenic Railroad runs May to November, but Cass Scenic Railroad State Park is open year-round.

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway.

10. Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, Blue Ridge, Georgia

Dating back to the 1880s, the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway got its start as a rail line running from Marietta to Copperhill, Tennessee. Today, you’ll hop aboard the heritage train and enjoy a scenic 1-hour ride to the sister cities of McCaysville, Georgia, and Copperhill. It’s a 6-minute walk from one community to the other, and while you’re there, you can spend up to 2 hours exploring or shopping before hopping back on the train for the 1-hour return trip to Blue Ridge.

Pro Tip: The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway runs March to December, closing in January and February.

11. Grand Canyon Railway, Williams, Arizona

Running daily from Williams, the Grand Canyon Railway takes you to a depot just a few feet from the Grand Canyon’s southern rim. With vintage steam and diesel engines, you’ll enjoy your ride in enclosed and air-conditioned passenger cars while traveling through ponderosa pine trees and then to a high plains desert before arriving at the canyon. You’ll want to arrive early at the Williams depot to check out the Western town, and then watch as the local sheriff takes on would-be bank robbers in a memorable shootout. Then, as you’re enjoying the ride to the canyon, you’ll be entertained by Western characters through song and skits. You may even see train robbers racing alongside the train on their faithful steeds. During your excursion, be on the lookout for any would-be robbers who may have sneaked onto the train. Your round-trip visit to the Grand Canyon includes spending three hours at the South Rim, where you can explore the canyon’s sights on your own or sign up for a guided tour.

Pro Tips: You may want to consider reserving a room at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel during your visit. Learn more about the Grand Canyon North Rim versus South Rim here .

Our history

Lovers of the Champagne and the Champagne region… & Passionate about vintage cars!

The idea of creating unusual Champagne tours by combining our two passions was born in the family.

My Vintage Tour Company takes you on a journey back in time to discover the Champagne vineyards and the heritage of Épernay, Reims and the surrounding area with mythical French vehicles from the 1960s/80s.

Whether you’re a tour organizer or an individual looking for a special moment to share, we’ll help you organize your haute couture stay in Champagne!

Grappe de raisin et ardoise "Save Water Drink Champagne"

It all began with… an Estafette!

As early as 1961 the “Alouette” was born, which could serve as a utility van in the week and as a people carrier at the weekend. You just needed to add benches, made of tubes and canvas, to turn the van into a car. The Estafette became one of the symbols of the glorious thirty : the development of the economic boom and its transportation demands, the emerging need for a local service that exceeded that of mere delivery. It symbolised all these new flourishing signs and whose names were written in large letters on its flanks, always colourful and shiny. And when it took on a dark shade, it became the Gendarmerie’s vehicule, present at many crossroads to ensure the good operation of an ever developing automobile society.

Nowadays, this little van seduces everyone who crosses its path!! With its ultra comfortable seats and large glazed windows, it offers a perfect view of the vineyards : your ride will be unforgettable! Come and join us in this mythical collector’s vehicle on this journey through time, and discover the beautiful champagne landscapes.

TOUR ITINERARY

https://vintagetourbus.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Penner-Ash-1-1-600x258.jpg

Penner-Ash winery, founded in 1998, offers an array of elegant and earthy, structured and thoughtful Pinot noirs and Syrahs. Relax while savoring a flight or glass of their exceptional wine and enjoying the spectacular view of the Chehalem Valley that lies before you.

https://vintagetourbus.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Farsing-4-1-600x258.jpg

Situated on top of a mountain with exceptional views, Fairsing is a wonderful winery that takes deep pride in producing fine wines. Enjoy their wines in the beautiful tasting room or order a glass and enjoy walking the large intricate labyrinth on the crest of the hill overlooking the valley below.

WILLAKENZIE ESTATE

https://vintagetourbus.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/WillaKenzie-5-1-600x258.jpg

Passion for Pinot with a sense of place is what defines Willakenzie Estate, a family-owned winery located in the heart of the Willamette Valley. The winery is named after the sedimentary soil on which the vines are planted to reflect the ultimate expression of “terroir”.

LENNE ESTATE

https://vintagetourbus.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Lenne-1-1-600x258.jpg

What sets Lenné apart from other Oregon Pinot noirs? Location, location, location. Their steep south-facing slope is at the perfect elevation and has some of the poorest soil in Yamhill County resulting in concentrated Pinot noir. Their Pinot noir is described as a bigger style by some. They don’t seek to make highly extracted wines but their poor soil produces wines with density because of the small cluster and berry size. Lenné wines have a distinct mid-palate texture and a mocha-like aroma. The tasting room is European in style patterned after a French Country barn and offers a beautiful panoramic view of the valley in which it is nestled.

SAFFRON FIELDS

https://vintagetourbus.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Saffron-1-2-600x258.jpg

Richard Shugar designed the Saffron Fields Vineyard Hospitality Center. The tasting room and grounds integrate with the surrounding landscape to inspire an atmosphere of contemplation and ease. Sanjeev and Angela were inspired by architecture using glass, driftwood, and water for its ability to evoke emotion through fluidity and serenity much like their wines.

SOLENA ESTATE

https://vintagetourbus.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Solena-4-600x258.jpg

Soléna Estate was built with the future in mind, a place that would belong to Danielle and Laurent’s daughter, Soléna. Soléna Estate is a place where biodynamic practices in the vineyard, French winemaking talent, and a sense of family all come together. Soléna Estate’s tasting room lies nestled against the hillside and offers sweeping views of the valley and surrounding lakes. Come visit their home away from home and enjoy award-winning Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at their hillside tasting room. Solena is named after their daughter. Soléna is the combination of the Spanish and French words Solana and Soleil, celebrating the sun and the moon.

ROOTS WINE COMPANY

https://vintagetourbus.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Roots-Winery-Bus-and-me-1-1-600x258.jpg

Roots produces approximately 3,800 cases annually. Wines include the flagship estate Pinot noir, as well as several single vineyard-designate Pinot noirs, sourced mostly from neighboring vineyards in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Other wines include an estate Pinot gris, Melon de Bourgogne, Viognier, Riesling, dessert Riesling, Syrah and a methode Champenoise sparkling named after their son, Theo. All these wines are made in small lots and handcrafted using indigenous yeasts.

Summer Cottage Home Design Ideas – Tour with Vintage Home Designs

We’ve had the pleasure of touring Michele’s Vintage Home Designs numerous times, experiencing her creative design ideas every season—except for summer, that is! So, you can imagine our excitement when Michele graciously agreed to let us in to tour her patio spaces and interior for this sunny season.

Michele, a true creative at heart, embraces a neutral palette that never fails to sweep you off your feet. Her style is timeless, showcasing a collection of carefully curated pieces that make her home so cozy. Every visit leaves us in awe of the new treasures she discovers and artfully placing into a perfectly arranged vignette. Get ready for a remarkable tour that will have your creativity flowing for your own home.

WATCH FULL VIDEO TOUR ON YOUTUBE

FRONT EXTERIOR

If you had the chance to catch our YouTube tour, you may recall that we began our journey on the back patio, concluding with the front patio. I wanted to mix it up for the blog post for those who enjoy our tours both ways. Our hope is for the photos and details to be fun to take in even if you’ve already watched the video tour or if you haven’t watched it for your curiosity to be sparked to do so!

tour vintage

Michele’s curb appeal is off the charts. Despite being a new build, it exudes the timeless charm of an old farmhouse with a captivating cottage feel. you’ll be greeted by a cottage garden brimming with vibrant blooms, attracting a chorus of bees and butterflies. The vivid colors of the flowers and lush greens create a striking contrast against the pristine white board and batten exterior.

I love the decor on the patio. One particular detail that caught our eye was the addition of a charming seating arrangement accompanied by a lamp on a table. We’ve taken many tours and I can’t recall ever seeing a lamp outdoors. Yet, it somehow felt perfectly aligned with the ambiance, as if it were meant to be there all along. There really are no rules in home design.

tour vintage

When I think of Michele I think of topiaries because she always has the most stunning ones all throughout her home specially on the patios. I’m always shocked how she is able to create her own topiaries with plants she finds at Walmart of all places.

I also wanted to mention how much I love the color of Michele’s front door. It has me itching to paint my own.

tour vintage

DINING ROOM

Michele use patriotic accents from Memorial Day until Labor Day with Fourth of July perfectly sandwiched in between. She doesn’t go overboard and her accents aren’t too kitschy but just perfectly sophisticated touches that remind you of the season and holiday that we’re in. The vintage flag gracefully hanging on the staircase is a great example.

tour vintage

LIVING ROOM

Michele is known for her neutral color palette. She’s always been able to make a bold statement with all neutrals which is such talent. I was surprised when I saw pops of blue in her home this tour. Against all expectations, these additions did not detract from her signature style; instead, they seamlessly blended into her typically warm and neutral design, enhancing it in unexpected ways.

tour vintage

When I asked Michele about her addition of color she said “ Blue is just so classic .” And she shared that it was sparked by her grandmother’s blue dishes that she found she had. She treasure hunted for a bit more blue with more transferware and pillows on the living room sofa. She has links on her blog for these pillows if you’re in the market!

tour vintage

Mom and I are known for claiming many things to be our favorite in one single tour. It’s hard to choose one area when you’re so inspired but I really mean it when I say this hutch in Michele’s kitchen is truly my favorite thing in her home. She has many collections placed in perfect vignettes then your eyes are drawn up to her collection of hats and books. Some of these hats our her personal hats while others were thrifted all found around $4.

tour vintage

Michele has a stunning sitting area in front of her kitchen. This area was originally going to be the dining room but made sense for their family to be for sitting and having conversations. I always find myself in one of the chairs when I visit. On a table next to the chair Michele had the Farmhouse Style magazine where her patio was on the cover! So fun to see her talent receiving the recognition it deserves.

Here is one place you’ll see cut florals and stems from Michele’s yard. She shares how no matter the season she bring cuttings in and when there’s nothing to bring in she’ll run and grab a grocery store arrangement and embellish it with greenery from the yard. I love the signs of life all over the home.

tour vintage

BREAKFAST NOOK

More unconventional wall decor is found in the breakfast nook with vintage garden tools hung on the wall next to her breakfast nook table. This spot has been a place where out of the box accents have been spotted almost every visit. During Christmas Michele had dishes hung in the shape of a Christmas tree. I wish I could bottle up her creativity and drink it like my morning coffee, but since I can’t I’ll just continue to read her blog for her unique ideas!

tour vintage

As we glanced at the top of the hutch, we couldn’t help but notice a few more topiaries perched there. We couldn’t help but chuckle as we realized that these ones seemed to be having a bit of a struggle, not quite thriving like their patio counterparts. However, what always catches my attention is how effortlessly Michele embraces the concept of dry, faded florals in her home. With dried hydrangeas featured as her decor on multiple occasions, it seemed like the slightly wilted green of the topiaries were a deliberate and beautiful choice.

I must admit, I didn’t even mind the fact that they were not in their prime. Michele has a way of making faded elements look intentional and beautiful. The muted hues and weathered appearance blended seamlessly with the overall aesthetic. It was a gentle reminder that beauty can be found in every stage of life, even when things may not be flourishing as expected.

tour vintage

This is where we started on the video tour and one of my favorite areas in Michele’s home. I told you I have a hard time committing to a favorite because there’s just so much inspiration from every area.

tour vintage

One fun feature on the back patio are these glass garage doors offering the flexibility to open or close them based on the patio’s intended use. During the scorching Texas summers, it’s no surprise that these doors are mostly kept open, allowing a refreshing breeze to flow through. And trust me, with a heat index of 114° when we filmed this tour, I can understand the desire for some much-needed ventilation!

tour vintage

As the colder months roll in, Michele shared that they bring the doors down and cozy up the space by igniting the fireplace. Within moments, the patio transforms into a warm and inviting retreat, expanding their living area and creating the perfect setting for entertaining. I couldn’t help but imagine the possibilities this versatile space holds, not only during the summer but also during the pleasant spring and fall seasons.

tour vintage

The patio is where Michele styles her amazing tablescapes that she features on her blog. She’s done so many different themes that have you wanting to take the idea and host a full party. Today she has vintage demi johns with American flags.

tour vintage

During the video tour, mom mentions how one side of the patio is for dining and the other for “snuggling.” I got a laugh out of that but I can imagine this slipcovered sofa being a great place to snuggle up and watch a movie in front of the fireplace. Michele thrifted the sofa and found a loose cover that she bought to go on it then had the pillows recovered by her seamstress. They’re double sided so she can flip them whenever she’d like to change it up.

Another interesting find Michele has on the patio is the fireplace mantle. She found it from a woman in Dallas on Facebook Marketplace for $100! It brought so much character to this room.

I hope you enjoyed Michele’s home as much as we have! I’m inspired to bring the outdoors in and treasure hunt to find accents that make an impact without breaking the bank. I love that every time we visit there’s something new that inspires me to think outside of the box with my home design. Thank you so much for having us Michele!

Follow Michele on Instagram at @VintageHomeDesigns and head to her blog for all the details and tutorials of her projects. I learn something new every week from her that I never would have thought of!

Vintage cottage decor

At Summerhill, we love to decorate in a timeless vintage cottage style. Our modern-day builder-grade home intertwines old and new to create a cozy warm atmosphere. Join me on a room-by-room tour, where treasured finds, family heirlooms, restored pieces, and modern-day conveniences create a haven that feels like stepping into a bygone era.

Vintage cottage decor is key to creating this aesthetic. Let's embark on an enchanting journey together and discover the heartwarming charm of vintage cottage style at Summerhill.

Vintage Cottage Decor FAQs

What is vintage cottage decor.

Vintage cottage decor creates a cozy and nostalgic feeling in your home. It's often achieved by bringing heirloom, antique and vintage items into your home. It will make your home feel inviting and comfortable, like a cozy cottage. One of the best things about cottage style homes is that no two will be the same. Cottage design, think quant countryside English cottage, is all about adding your own personal touch to your home's design to make the space feel welcoming. Cottage color schemes usually consist of pastel or neutral colors to provide the perfect backdrop that lets your vintage cottage decor shine.

Is Vintage Cottage Decor Expensive?

If you shop exclusively at high-end antique stores, vintage cottage decor can be expensive, but, good news, this doesn't have to be the case. Often items are heirlooms from family members, passed down through generations. But vintage finds are often found at thrift stores, second hand stores, and vintage shops. Flea market finds are some of the most interesting I've seen. A great idea is also to find new items designed to look vintage. The important thing is that the decor adds to the aesthetic of your home and brings you joy.

Vintage Cottage Syle at Summerhill

At Summerhill, the vintage cottage style is more than just a name; it reflects our home's ambiance. When creating “Life on Summerhill,” the blog, we humorously christened our house as such due to the scorching summer heat that engulfs our sunlit living room on a hill. The vintage cottage decor, however, was not a deliberate choice but a natural outcome.

Inheriting numerous antiques and sharing a love for history, we were drawn into the world of vintage charm. With my background in interior design, I took joy in blending old, new, and homemade elements to create a warm and inviting vintage style home.

Each room tells a unique tale, with cherished heirlooms and thoughtfully collected vintage pieces gracing our abode, weaving together stories of generations past and timeless elegance.

Join us on a heartwarming journey through Summerhill, where vintage cottage style brings history, warmth, and love to life in every corner.

I. The Entryway

If you have been hanging around long, you know my philosophy on porches and entryways. But if you are new here, let me share that your entryway should be inviting, welcoming, and the beginning of what will come inside.

Vintage cottage decor in an entryway

At our modern cottage, vintage is introduced right away in the entryway. This antique chest is a welcoming sight and is a hand-me-down from my husband's mother. Another old element is the mirror which is old but not old enough to be vintage, meaning 40 years or older.

Our entryway is long and narrow; straight ahead is a bench with pillows and silhouettes hanging on the wall. This bench used to be right by the door. Sometimes I love moving these pieces for fun and a change of scenery.

Here is a photo of when the bench was by the door. This old bench used to be a twin-size bed. It was about to go to the dumb, but I saved it and gave it new life. It's a great example of vintage furniture that's been repurposed. Here is a post on when I painted this repurposed cottage bench .

Repurposed bench from old twin bed and painted white and used as a decoration in cottage style home

I love silhouettes and hope to thrift or vintage shop for more one day. Here is a new one made to look old in my entryway that I found at the Carnton Plantation in Nashville.

Decorating with silhouettes to get a vintage cottage look

Now that you have a feel for our entryway, let's move into the living room, which is all an open plan and full of cottage style decor.

II. The Vintage Living Room

Board and batten fireplace decorated with vintage cottage decorations of old oil paintings, windows, dough bowl, candles and more

Our living room is very long, with a fireplace to one end. When laying out the furniture in this room, I found this space to feel more cozy by breaking it up with the sofa . I love our comfortable sofa with soft throw pillows and blankets in organic textures we can change up differently for each season. One side is a living space, and the other is our informal dining.

Vintage cottage style decorating

To give this room that vintage cottage style, I added more trim work to the fireplace wall and filled it with thrift, old, and antique treasures on the mantel.

Vintage bench used as a decoration in the cottage

But probably the one thing with vintage cottage written all over it is the bench we use as a coffee table. When my daughter found this piece, it was already this perfect shade of blue. The paint was coming off the top, so she sanded it to reveal the beautiful raw wood.

III. The Informal Dining Room

Sometimes I am unsure if we should call this a dining room, game table, craft table or what because we spend a great deal of time here doing all sorts of things.

Dining table and chairs with ironstone pitcher filled with cut flowers

This dining area contains not-so-old vintage-style table and white chairs. Here is where so many memories have been made, but the treasured piece in this area is the bench . This bench belonged to my husband's mom. It was very long, so we had to cut it down to make it fit this table.

cottage vintage table centerpiece

One thing I love about cottage style is its informal nature and its creative uses of things to make life happy. On the open shelves in this space are lots of old and new books and trinkets. It is a great place to display heirloom pieces and seasonal decor. But if there is one thing that says cottage, it is baskets .

vintage cottage style bookcases

On top of the bookcases and the bottom shelf are some of my thrift and antique baskets . Baskets fit almost all design styles, and not only do they provide texture to your decor, they are also great for organizing. Natural materials are key elements to cottage style decor.

Centerpiece in a vintage cottage style

Last, in the middle of the table, I love to leave this old piece of chalk painted wood. It is my makeshift runner. It helps break up the wood tone and elevates the flowers or centerpiece.

Keeping fresh flowers on your table is another classic cottage decoration idea. This old vintage ironstone pitcher has cottage written all over it. Just another example of mixing old and new.

IV. The Vintage Kitchen

When designing our kitchen, I wanted a quaint cottage feeling. All the cabinets were one long straight line and stained a dark color. I knew that to get that cottage look, I needed to break up the linear design and give it some paint. But there was a microwave over the range and I needed to get rid of that, too.

Kitchen design that is vintage cottage

I also wanted a vintage style range to be a focal point. After many hours looking at different ranges and researching quality, function, and aesthetics, I decided on this GE Cafe . Plus, it had a nice-looking refrigerator to go with it.

Because this range puts out more heat, I needed an exhaust fan that vented to the outdoors. So the microwave came down, and I took our tiny pantry and placed the microwave and convection/toaster oven in there. You can see the process in this post about how I transformed my pantry into a microwave alcove . This opened up more counter space and helped with the vintage cottage style I was going for.

Vintage cottage decorations of an old oil painting and basket filled with dried lavender in a kitchen

After running ductwork through the ceiling, I designed this range hood to complete the focal point. Then I added vintage decorations to give it that cottage feel like this vintage Longaberger basket filled with lavender , old tiny oil painting, and copper over the stove. Now I have the cottage kitchen of my dreams.

V. The Kitchen Sitting Room

A part of our kitchen is this sitting room, and just like the table in the living room, these rocking chairs are a gathering space.

vintage garlic basket on the wall

A board and batten wall I created in this room with hooks break up the builder-grade look. Little did I know then that this would be a fun place to change our decorations. There is thrift, old and new things on this wall. Can you guess what is new?

vintage cottage decorations thrifted, antique and more hanging on a kitchen wall

I recently traveled to Maine from Florida and did some thrifting and antiquing. I found this garlic basket at Goodwill in Maine. Tap thrifting from Maine to Florida to see what else I found.

Vintage scale decoration on an old hutch inside a vintage cottage style home

On the other side of the room is this hutch. I love this hutch because it reminds me of my Dad and our favorite show Andy Griffith. If you watch Andy Griffith look closely at their dining room. A hutch in the background looks almost identical to this one.

Do you ever have that vision of just the right piece? That was me, and it took a long time to find it. Just when I was about to give up, I came across it in a thrift store near the coast of Florida.

This piece has all the vintage cottage cozy feels, and I love to change the decor and dress it up to add the cottage vibe.

I hope you have enjoyed this vintage cottage style tour of Summerhill. We are not finished because I have a formal dining room, hall, bedrooms, and bathrooms to share. The timeless charm of vintage cottage style at Summerhill brings me so much joy. I know curating a vintage-inspired home will bring you joy and fulfilment as well.

I am working my way room by room on YouTube , making a list of finishing touches to complete each room. But then, is a room ever complete? What do you think? I invite you to experience the beauty of vintage decor room by room.

Keep an eye out here or subscribe to my newsletter to get updates on when all the other rooms are added.

Whether you have a small house or large, the vintage cottage style is achievable and easy to do. It's also a lot of fun. I would love for you to share your vintage cottage style inspirations in your own home in the comments and on social media. I love to hear your stories and find so much inspiration in them. And I hope you found it in the vintage cottage style at Summerhill.

Happy Decorating!

Moscow city 360-degree virtual reality tour.

Take the virtual tour of the kremlin, moscow river, saint basil’s cathedral and red square.

The Moscow Kremlin  usually referred to as the Kremlin, is a fortified complex at the heart of Moscow, overlooking the Moskva River to the south, Saint Basil’s Cathedral and Red Square to the east, and the Alexander Garden to the west.

It is the best known of the Kremlins (Russian citadels) and includes five palaces, four cathedrals, and the enclosing Kremlin Wall with Kremlin towers. Also within this complex is the Grand Kremlin Palace. The complex serves as the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation.

The name “Kremlin” means “fortress inside a city”, and is often also used metonymically to refer to the government of the Russian Federation in a similar sense to how “White House” is used to refer to the Executive Office of the President of the United States. It had previously been used to refer to the government of the Soviet Union (1922–1991) and its highest members (such as general secretaries, premiers, presidents, ministers, and commissars). The term “Kremlinology” refers to the study of Soviet and Russian politics.

All of Moscow’s main streets start at  Red Square , so it’s easy to see why this is considered the heart of the city. A massive space of 330 meters by 70 meters, the square is flanked by the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum, two cathedrals, and the State Historical Museum. In 1945, a massive Victory Parade was held here to celebrate the defeat of Nazi Germany by the Soviet Armed Forces.

St. Basil’s Cathedral , one of the most recognizable buildings on the square, was built in 1555. The unique cathedral has architectural details inspired by Byzantine and Asian designs, as well as details that resemble those found in famous mosques. There are nine individual chapels inside the church, all decorated with colourful mural art.

Yuri Gagarin Is the First Man in Space. Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut. He was the first human to journey into outer space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on 12 April 1961

The Best Vintage Stores in Milan

Vogue’ s guide to the best vintage stores in Milan is part of our directory of the very best vintage around the world , curated by editors from all over. Whether you’re traveling and searching for some superb stores to visit on your trip or are curious about your local vintage treasure chests, Vogue’ s directory has you covered.

Vintage lives outside the fashion universe—it exists beyond trends. It can represent a desire for renewal, the conversion of old to new, and, more poetically, adolescent reveries realized. There’s no greater satisfaction than buying the garment or accessory coveted in preteen years spent pouring over magazines. But where does the best vintage really live? Fashion capitals, of course.

Milan is now a hotbed of vintage activity. Tucked away in picturesque urban postcards, behind Piazza Castello, or just a stone’s throw from the Columns of San Lorenzo, Milan’s vintage boutiques are a must-visit destination for those who experience fashion in Milan. To narrow down the city’s vintage highlights, we’ve assembled Vogue’s guide to the best vintage in Milan, curated with the help of our editors at Italian Vogue .

Madame Pauline Vintage

You’ll find treasures in the cavernous wonders of Madame Pauline Vintage, a destination for vintage lovers and collectors of irreverent retro wares. Luring every generation with its offerings, the boutique is a must-visit address for both socialites and It girls and impeccable ladies of Milanese style—you know the types: silver hair, brooch on the chest, and heirloom bag on the wrist. With carefully selected offerings, the store also creates custom collections, including Bandana, a favorite among Madame’s most beloved frequenters.

Cavalli e Nastri Vintage

An institution for vintage treats and its archive fabrics, colors, and inspirations, Cavalli e Nastri is one of Milan's most celebrated vintage stores. The store is like a whirlwind fashion history tour from 1920s hats à la Louise Brooks to 1950s housemaid Corolle skirts to the unabashedly glamorous 1990s Versace. A Mecca for designers and stylists, the boutique has the intimacy you’d expect of a tea room with its soft music, shapes, and colors.

Franco Jacassi Vintage Delirium

Located in a courtyard in old Milan and furnished with period furniture, Franco Jacassi’s Vintage Delirium opened in 1985 and has since become one of the world’s most extensive collections of vintage clothing. For those nostalgic for the Golden Age of jewelry, the store is the place for British and 19th-century styles.

A destination for all those (of any age!) in their teenage rebellion phase Groupies is a nonconformist’s paradise. The shop focuses on street style, with an emphasis on the 1990s and 2000s. Tucked away in a side street of Piazza XXIV Maggio, PWC Milano is the location for club kids in Milan and beyond. The boutique’s assortment is consistent but not predictable, offering its coterie of loyal customers both the Cher Horowitz–inspired silk slip dress and the tie-dye prints to wear with black patent leather platform boots. The pièce de résistance is the accessories station, where Regency-style velvet bonnets and cloth brooches are merchandised alongside a total-leather look.

Just a stone’s throw from the art and design hub of Via Ventura, 20134Lambrate found its home beneath a 1940s barbershop sign. It’s the address to know if your wardrobe tends to mish-mash era; inside, 20th-century garments are shown on a mannequin adorned with 1980s accessories. And since fashion-lovers tend to love beauty in all its forms, there's a color-filled selection of furniture and furnishings such as lamps, chairs, vases, and mirrors.

Humana Vintage Milan

Humana (also shoppable online) sees vintage as a way to live sustainably, but the store does much more than offer secondhand clothes—Humana is, in fact, a humanitarian organization founded in 1998 which (through the sale of its secondhand clothes) supports education, sustainable agriculture, health protection, and community development projects in Italy and beyond. The stores are filled with clothing, accessories, jewelry, and Italian fashion items from the ’60s to the present day.
