Here’s what we will cover:

1. The basics of how to make a travel video 2. Top 7 travel video ideas 3. Pro tips to create travel videos

Let’s dive in.

1. Basics of making travel videos:

While making any video you need to go through the steps of ideating, planning, and executing. But when you’re carrying these steps out in the travel video space, you need to hone several other skills in addition to that of filmmaking, such as time management, thinking on your feet, and acting quickly. So to help you get better at making travel videos let’s take a look at what you need to do.

A. Planning and pre-production

A lot of people believe that planning is an optional step when it comes to creating travel videos because the activity of traveling in itself is so unpredictable. But if you’re looking to create travel videos that leave an impact, planning and pre-production are absolutely indispensable to the process.

Planning for a travel video includes everything from ideation and scripting to location scouting and storyboarding. But all of these processes look very different from how you would do these for regular videos – for the sole reason that there is a huge amount of uncertainty that comes with the process of travel. Filmmaker Aidin Robbins explains the process of planning very well in this video:

Here’s a short outline of how you can go about it:

(1) Ideation

Ideating for a travel video begins with deciding upon a location and then figuring out in what light do you want to present that location. Do you want to create an educational video on the place or showcase its culture or is there a particularly interesting story about the place that you want to bring to light? Your answers to these questions form the basis of your idea.

(2) Research

Once your idea is ready, you want to go ahead and gather as much information as you can about the place – through blogs, youtube videos, personal anecdotes, and even interviews. You want to look up images and videos to get an understanding of what the place looks and feels like. This is super important in helping you plan out your shots later.

(3) Outlining

Once you have the idea and your basic research in place, you want to create a rough outline of the flow of your video. This is where the storytelling aspect kicks in. Mind you this is not a full-fledged script because that isn’t really possible at this stage. With the outline, you want to ask questions such as how do you want to start your video? What is the hook? How will the story flow and how will it end? Here is also where you want to cite any references for creative inputs and ideas.

(4) Plan your shots

Now this is not something that you have complete control over. However, having a basic understanding of how your story flows as well as the shots and angles that will complement the scenes in your story is super important. This will allow you to be mindful of the kind of shots you take. You can create a shot list of the basics that you want to cover so that even if unprecedented events happen, you can still get decent shots from your trip. You can also create a storyboard to help with this process but that is not mandatory.

(5) Figure out your equipment

Depending on the location you’re traveling to, how long you plan on being there, what your living situation is going to be like and other important factors, you will have to decide on your equipment. You will require a professional camera with a few different lenses, a gimbal to take moving shots, a good on-camera microphone to record audio, and also preferably a drone to get cinematic aerial footage. Check out this blog for a complete list of the kind of equipment you will need.

B. Shooting your travel videos

When shooting travel videos you want to think about what that place represents and what emotion it evokes. That is what you want to capture in your shots. The best travel videos are ones that make the viewers feel like they’re traveling with the creator – and generating that emotion is only possible if you know what elements of the place you want to capture in your footage. This holds true even for vlogs – scout the place before you begin filming to get the best shots.

Keep your list of shots from the planning stage handy to ensure you get everything you need. And ensure you capture shots from the journey and not just the place itself b because unless you’re taking your viewers on a journey, it doesn’t evoke the kind of emotion you want it to.

Another thing you want to ensure is simply shooting a lot! In most cases, less than 1% of your footage will make it to the final cut. But for that to happen, you want to ensure you have enough footage, to begin with. The worst feeling is to come back after the trip to edit your video only to realize you missed out on getting good shots. For a more in-depth understanding of how to shoot your travel videos, check out this guide by Parker Walbeck

Of course, a lot of your travel video story is also refined during the editing process , which is what we will be looking at in the next section.

C. Editing your travel videos

If you’ve planned right and shot according to the tips we shared above, your editing process will be all smooth sailing. But as we’ve already discussed, creating travel videos is different from creating other types of videos, which is why you need to pay special attention to different elements.

When you’re editing a travel video, in addition to having great clips, you also have to pay close attention to your choice of music , the sequence of your shots in the final edit, the pacing of the video, as well as the transitions and text you use. An editor like InVideo makes this easier because it already has most of these features inbuilt – allowing you to access and use them at the click of a button.

Travel videos appeal to people’s wanderlust, which means you want to focus on recreating that emotion while editing. Again, you need to go back to your script and storyboard here to first get an understanding of the kind of emotion you want to convey – are you making a fun holiday video or are you showcasing the culture of a place? In each connotation, the editing style is going to be vastly different. For a fun, festival video, you will have upbeat music, fast transitions, and creative text whereas, for a documentary-style video of a destination, you will probably prefer more acoustic music with mellow tunes, simple transitions, and minimalistic text.

Here’s a video by popular travel creator Lost LeBlanc explaining his process of editing a travel video:

Now your editing process will depend heavily on the kind of software you choose to edit on. If you already have some video editing experience and have a robust enough system, you might want to choose professional software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.

But if you’re just starting out, you want to use an editing tool that will let you create stunning edits with ease. This is where InVideo comes in. With an extensive library of over 5000+ templates along with ready-made assets like animated text boxes, stickers, call to action, music and sound effects, stock footage, transitions, and more, InVideo makes it super easy for you to edit your travel videos.

2. 7 ideas you can use to create your travel videos:

Now that you have a fair idea of how to go about creating travel videos, let’s take a look at some top-performing travel video ideas to kick your travel video creation into high gear.

Idea #1 - Start your own travel vlog

Travel vlogs are a great way to start your travel video journey. As a travel vlogger, you can start recording your trips, talking to the camera and your viewers, sharing your feelings about your trip, your first impressions, your expressions as you try various food items in real-time, and more. The best part is that travel vlogs don’t even need to be professionally edited. They can be shared even live in real-time, as viewers expect travel vlogs to be raw and real in many cases.

For example, Mina, an American travel vlogger, shares her vlogs from various places she visits across the world. Check out this video of her experience at the Zen capsule hotel in Japan.

Travel vlogs allow you to build your brand, find a niche as well as work towards earning opportunities.

Idea #2 - Create helpful how-to travel guides

You don't have to strictly do videos about your trips. You can create video guides for travel enthusiasts or creators as well. You can share tips, ideas, and knowledge with your tribe through beautifully crafted videos.

For example, check out travel YouTuber Sorelle Amore’s videos. She helps viewers create content like her through travel guides. She also inspires you with stories on how to live free and abundant as she does. Check out this video where she shares tips to travel on a budget.

If you want to create travel videos with a message, you’ll get lots of inspiration on Sorelle’s YouTube channel . Meanwhile, you can create your own travel tips and tricks video using this fully customizable template from InVideo :

Idea #3 - Share unique or strange travel experiences through your videos

Your travel videos can become a medium for you to share your personal, unique, or strange stories. You might have experienced unique events across your trips. You might be into tasting local, but strange food, trying out local dresses, and more. All of this can be a part of your travel videos.

For example, YouTuber Mike Corey’s mission is to conquer his fear of the unknown by traveling to strange and unique places and experiencing uncomfortable events. Check out this video on Mike’s camping experience at a place called Satan’s Castle in Turkey.

These videos are a glimpse into Mike’s methods of overcoming fear and insecurity. Whether you too want to overcome a personal fear, or you’re looking to create unique travel videos, you too can share strange stories, experiences, and events you met on your journey in your videos.  Not only will this make your videos more interesting, but you’ll also get attention for doing something different.

Idea #4 - Share food stories and reviews in your travel videos

If you are a foodie and love tasting new delicacies while on the go, you can make travel videos about food and culture. Your videos can provide viewers with a peek at different food cultures, cooking methods, and flavors across the globe.

For instance, YouTuber Mikey Chen travels to various countries and eats all the local food he can get his hands on. You too can similarly marry your two interests - travel and food. Check out this video where Mikey shares updates on his quarantine meals during his latest visit to South Korea.

Mikey’s videos are not just about his interests and passions. He has also successfully created merchandise around his content and sponsors various brands and products through his various YouTube channels. If you love to sample different food items, you too can create videos like Mikey, focusing on the food during your trips.

Customize this video to create your own exploration of food and culture across the globe!

Idea #5 - Spread your message of positivity and love in your travel videos

You can create travel videos about love, friendship, and positivity you come across on your trips. Share stories of how people across the globe are all linked by a common thread of compassion and good can be found everywhere.

For example, Phil, a black dude traveling all over Europe creates videos to promote positivity, love, and break barriers, in association with the Matador network. His videos show him going to various countries and cities and connecting with people, smashing stereotypes in the process. Check out this video on a Black traveler’s guide to Milan.

His videos offer a unique perspective, showing us how a black guy approaches and mixes with the European people. Just like Phil, you can take your viewers through the various places you visit, taking in the sights, eating the local food, and doing fun things across the city. You too can create your travel videos sharing your unique perspective, message, or narrative. All you need is a different way of looking at the world!

Idea #6 - Create 1-minute videos highlighting a city (or any place)

Create one-minute videos of a city or a place your visited and loved. You can feature time lapses, unique shots, and more to make these videos look relatable. These videos can be really helpful to viewers who actually want to travel to these cities and countries as they give a glimpse of the destinations and their highlights. They can also be fun to watch, keeping in mind the short attention spans of most people today.

For example, Cailin from YouTube channel Travel Yourself is known for is her “City in a minute” video series. Cailin shares the highlights of the city (or any place), the culture, the food, and any other relevant information, all in a minute. Check out this video by Cailin featuring Israel in a minute.

Idea #7 - Share video tour reviews, advice, and answer questions

If you are wondering how to make travel videos and are looking for inspiration to start, you can begin by doing reviews of local services, food reviews, restaurant or homestay reviews, and more. Share updates on the key points of a trip, give information on how to reach your destination, what does the trip involves, what is your itinerary, the cost, and more. Your videos can also answer the most frequently asked questions about a place or a trip.

For example, travel YouTuber Christianne started vlogging her journey as a response to commonly asked questions about her trips across the globe. Now she shares everything from life updates to travel itineraries and experiences in the form of travel videos. Check out this video by Christianne featuring Medsailors (a cruise trip) in Croatia.

3. BONUS: Pro tips while making travel videos

If you want to create stunning travel videos, that make people stop scrolling, you’ll need to do your homework in terms of planning your trip and other aspects. In the section below, we share some super actionable tips that make it possible for you to make your travel videos more impressive and engaging.

Tip #1 - Understand your gear

Before you set out to capture beautiful locales and happening adventures, you will need to know how to capture them. Understanding your equipment is essential to getting the best output. Know and practice using your camera and mic in various different settings to know what kind of output it yields.

Study your equipment ’s manual to know how to use different controls. You don’t want to miss capturing a beautiful moment because you were fumbling with the controls on your camera.

Tip #2 - Refine your gear

When you’re starting out it is easy to get swept up by cool gadgets and the latest camera, but the truth is you don’t need a whole bunch of equipment to film good videos. As you hone your craft, refine your gear simultaneously. Your aim should be to be able to travel as light as possible while getting the best quality of the footage.

You can do this by first understanding your style of filmmaking and then sticking to gear that helps you achieve that the best. For instance, if you’re someone who primarily uses wide-angle shots in your travel videos, you might not need to carry multiple macro or telephoto lenses.

The thing to note here is that this kind of refinement comes with practice and experience. So don’t beat yourself up about not getting it right on the first go.

Tip #3 - Capture as much of the journey as the destination

As we’ve mentioned before, travel videos are about showcasing the journey. Even if you’re making a tips and tricks video, if you can make people feel like they’re part of the process – your videos will do much better. This means capturing shots that depict the journey – hiking to the top of the hill, taking a cab to the temple, walking to the restaurant, and others like it.

Tip #4 - Film the people of the place

Yes drone shots of the ocean and close-ups of the forest leaves are beautiful, but the real essence of a place lies in its people. A lot of travel creators don’t realize how crucial this element is. Capturing life and emotions and depicting that in your story is one of the best ways to evoke feelings of belongingness in your viewers and this is not something you want to miss out on.

For instance, check out this video on one of the oldest cities in the world, Varanasi, India, by YouTuber Ben Mikha, depicting the local people and everyday life. It makes the viewer feel like they are a part of the chaotic and vibrant landscape as well.

Tip #5 - Shoot more than you think is necessary

As we had mentioned above, roughly 1% of all your footage is likely to make it to the final edit . This means you need more than enough legroom to play around and experiment with. Even if you feel something is unnecessary at the moment, capture it because you will not truly know if something is unnecessary unless you bring it to the edit table.

Tip #6 - Organize your footage on the go

Unless you’re on a weekend trip, not organizing your footage on the daily is a huge mistake. Since you will be shooting a lot, if you fail to organize on a daily basis, it will become a mammoth task to have to sift through the entire media from your trip at the end.

Tip #7 - Carry enough storage and battery

This means memory cards, hard drives, and battery backup. The worst thing to happen while filming is having your memory cards or battery run out preventing you from filming what you need to. Keep multiple memory cards, hard drives, and power banks to ensure your filming goes as smoothly as possible.

How to Make a Great Travel Video

Driving traffic is critical to the success of any affiliate marketing campaign. In the travel niche, one of the best solutions is to create travel videos. Videos are a highly engaging, easy-to-share form of content that will boost the engagement on your page and help you grow brand awareness. This post explains how to make a travel video step-by-step to capture your audience’s attention and encourage them to click your affiliate links.

How to make a viral travel video

The truth is that you don’t need years of experience or a filmmaking background to start making great travel videos. Over time, through trial and error, you will find a workflow that perfectly works for you and will be able to create engaging content in no time. If you are just starting out, you can follow the tips that we share to create your first travel video. While videos come in different forms (from “walk and talk” vlogs to more advanced films), the video-making process essentially includes four steps:

  • Creating a story that will connect the shots
  • Making enough footage
  • Editing it into a single story
  • Publishing your travel video

Below, you will find a detailed description of each step and tips on how to make an engaging travel video.

Step 1. Creating a Story

The process of making a travel video starts prior to actual filming. You need to have a story in mind before you hit record. This is because human brains love stories and are fascinated to see them until the end. Such videos trigger emotions and allow viewers to feel as if they have also seen those sceneries with their own eyes. For that reason, creating a story behind your video is the most important part of the whole process.

What kind of story can you narrate? It can be about your trip or about a place itself, like about local food, people, traditions, etc. Try to think of a common thread in your footage that can be weaved into a whole story. It can start with sunrise and end with sunset, or happen in reverse chronological order.

1. Hone Your Skills by Watching Travel Videos

You can find travel video ideas by watching content from other creators. Pay attention to their video format, style, transitions between clips, light, and experiment from there. Vimeo Travel is a great platform to start with, as it offers thousands of inspiring travel videos from the world’s best creators.

2. Find the Purpose of Your Video

The second step is to find the purpose behind your video. What do you want it to convey and through which format can that be achieved most efficiently? Who is your video for and what do you want your viewers to feel in the end? From the moment you start planning your shots to publishing the video, the key thing is to remember the end goal and make decisions accordingly. Also, think about why you’re making travel videos in general and how you want this channel to evolve.

For example, you might want to inspire people to go to a particular country by showing beautiful scenery and communicating the vibe of the place. Or create a highly informative video that will show people how they can plan their trip step-by-step. Understanding the purpose will help you stay focused and work efficiently.

3. Plan Your Shots

Now that you have a purpose in mind, it’s time to plan your shots. Create a list of all the things you want to film: what sights, sounds, and experiences will represent your idea best? Consider different angles to shoot from, types of shots, etc. You’ll also need a common thread connecting all shots and smooth transitions between them. For example, it can be the same location, angle, sound, object, etc.

A common mistake is to film random shots without proper planning. Then, travel video editing becomes quite challenging, as one has to create a story out of that pile of footage. To avoid it, try to find travel video ideas and plan beforehand. You can even create a Pinterest board to visualize ideas and map your story beforehand. Then, you’ll know what to film when on site.

Step 2. Filming Your Video

Now it’s time to put that plan of yours into action and take the necessary shots. Follow our best practices to shoot smartly.

Video making process photo

1. Find Which Gear and Settings Work Best for You

You can still make a vacation video without expensive equipment, even a phone can be enough. For example, Mark from Migrationology started out with a point-and-shoot camera, which was about 4.3 megapixels. Kiersten from The Blonde Abroad used to make shots on her iPhone. Depending on your camera, having multiple lenses might come in handy. For example, photographer and videographer Tiffany Nguyen often carries prime and wider lenses in her kit to take different shots.

You also might need a tripod, headphones, a good microphone to record audio, and maybe an external lighting system. GoPros are also a good idea because they take up little space and can be used anywhere. To take breathtaking shots from a bird’s eye view, consider buying a drone. Such clips draw attention right away, but make sure to get a license to fly in select locations.

Video cameras on a table

2. Use Support for Your Camera

To make steady shots, consider using a tripod, a gimbal stabilizer, or a shoulder mount rig. It might be hard to hold your camera and keep it from shaking with every breath. Special gear such as tripods can stabilize your camera so you can focus on the footage content.

3. Choose the Best Light

Light can define the look and the feel of your video, so it’s very important to consider the time of day when planning your shots. Dawn and dusk are the best time to film outside, as the light is soft and not as intense as during the day. It’s also the best moment to make a timelapse of the sun rising or setting. And you can shoot indoors in the daytime, as there will be a good amount of light inside buildings.

4. Diversify Your Shot Types

Just as an unvaried diet quickly becomes boring, having the same type of shots won’t excite your viewers in the long run. Using different types of shots will help keep your viewers engaged, and engagement is key to travel videography. Here are a few ideas for travel video shots :

  • Close-up shots
  • Action shots
  • Point-of-view shots
  • Still tripod shots
  • Time lapses
  • Panning left, right, up, down
  • Shooting from bird’s eye view
  • Slowly spinning shots, etc.

Last but not least is to show up on camera so that the audience can see your face and get to know your personality. It will help them connect much faster.

5. Create Movement

To make a travel video even more engaging, try to add motion. Apart from filming moving objects like birds flying or people dancing, you can create your own motion through simple camera movements such as panning, or liven up a static landscape with a timelapse, etc.

6. Get Consent From Everyone You Shoot

If you wish to get people on camera, make sure to get their consent. While some may be eager to get filmed, others might object. So, to avoid any legal trouble, discuss this with your models before releasing your footage.

7. Be Smart When Filming

One of the most important travel video tips is to shoot smart. On the one hand, when you start editing, you may wish there would be more material. On the other hand, watching hours of video to find the best clips and make a three-minute compilation can also be challenging. So, you need to shoot smartly. Here are a few tips:

  • Shoot when the light is at its best, which is usually at dawn and dusk. Thus, you’ll have time to explore the place during the day.
  • Make sure your camera is steady. It’s better to film shorter yet steady clips in contrast to longer but shaky footage.
  • Videos are about movement, so if you need to film something still, try to add motion by moving the camera and so on.
  • Take various shots, such as panning up and down, left and right, zooming in and out, etc.
  • Film from different angles: for example, from eye level, from close to the ground, from a tree, etc.

Man checking his camera on a beach after filming

Make sure to check your footage regularly. If something is wrong, it’s better to find out while you’re still on site so you can fix it.

8. Back It Up

After filming is over, it’s important to back up the footage into a hard drive, or onto two different places just in case. Better safe and sorry. Once the footage is backed up, you can move on to the next step and start picking the best shots.

Step 3. Editing Your Video

Travel video editing is no less important than filming. At this stage, you can choose your favorite clips and put them together into a captivating story. It might be a time-consuming process unless you handle it wisely. Here are a few tips on how to make a vacation video that inspires wanderlust:

1. Use Editing Apps

Travel video editing apps will save your time and help create smooth transitions. Start with easy tools to learn the ropes and then move on to more advanced solutions.

  • iMovie . This program is great for those who have little grasp on editing, for example, you can use it to combine clips with meaningful transitions. iMovie is for Mac only.
  • Movavi is an alternative tool, available for Windows. You can change the background, add special effects, and more.
  • Quick . This is a special app by GoPro, which automatically edits clips to a beat point, for example, your favorite song. It also allows you to collect your best clips, provides unlimited backup, various light and color options, etc.
  • Filmora . This tool guides you through the whole editing process and tells what type of footage you need and when. It offers a library of video styles and video LUTs (presets for videos), as well as music, transitions, and more. Here is a detailed guide on editing with Filmora .

More advanced users can take advantage of tools like:

  • Adobe Premiere Pro is a professional editing tool that allows you to import and edit videos, add effects, and export footage. It features pro templates and allows for advanced customization.
  • After Effects is another great tool by Adobe to make cinematic movie titles, intros and transitions. You can remove an object from your clip, add animation or 3D design, and more.
  • Final Cut Pro is available for Mac and features incredible editing functions based on machine learning.

You can always start with a free trial and then decide which program will be most helpful, and worth its money, in your case.

2. Make Meaningful Connections

If you look for travel video ideas on the internet, you’ll notice smooth transitions between clips. When editing your video, try to find meaningful connections between clips. Naturally, it can be a chronological retelling of your journey if you look at a bigger picture. But you can also work with smaller details and connect your clips through:

  • The motion of an object
  • The camera moving in the same direction
  • Dominant color

Using such methods will allow you to create a single flow throughout your travel video and make it cohesive and therefore engaging. It may be unclear to viewers at first, but as long as your footage has inherent structure and is edited with intention, it’s good enough. So, you can start watching all the clips until you find two that can be meaningfully connected and edit from there.

3. Add Stock Videos if Necessary

If you lack certain clips to create a cohesive video, look for relevant stock videos. There is a lot of high-quality free and paid footage that may be a perfect match and save you the necessity to go back to the location and shoot again. Here are some platforms:

  • Storyblocks offers royalty-free stock images, audio and video. Unlimited access to video starts from €20 per month, to access to all content – from €30 per month.
  • WeVideo provides a collection of over a million licensed stock media files. Access to the Essentials library is possible with paid subscription only, starting from $4.99 per month.
  • Videvo shares over half a million video clips, motion graphics, video templates, music tracks, etc. Premium subscription starts from $4.99 monthly.

4. Find Good Music

Good music is essential in making a travel video, as sound helps create a comprehensive experience for viewers. If you find relevant tracks before sequencing your film, you can follow the beats and add connections accordingly. If not, you can look for music that will suit your edited clip. The goal is the same — to make what users hear and see go well together. Some websites offer royalty-free music that you can easily use in your videos:

  • Artist provides royalty-free music, sound effects, and footage starting at $9.99 per month. You can search music by mood, genre, instrument, etc. The platform offers licenses covering social media such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and more.
  • Thematic offers copyright-free music matching your YouTube videos. You can filter songs by aesthetic, vibe, keywords, and other filters. Remember to credit the author when publishing your video!
  • MusicVine features over 6,000 tracks from the world’s famous composers and songwriters. You can access the music starting from €17.99 per month depending on your project type.

5. Add Real-Life Sounds

Using real-life sounds for your video will help create a comprehensive experience for your viewers. Smells, tastes, and sounds heighten our senses when traveling, so you can increase the emotional response from your audience and help them feel connected to the place with this technique. For example, you can collect sound bites with a microphone on site when filming or recourse to stock platforms offering real-life sounds such as Freesound . You can also find sound effects in the YouTube Audio Library .

6. Find the Perfect Length

It’s important to make your video engaging yet not boring or tiring. The ideal length will depend on the platform. For Instagram, it should be about 45 seconds , while YouTube and IGTV are good for longer footage. Depending on what your video is about, a good length can be three to ten minutes and comprise the following parts:

  • Introduction. This should take about ten seconds. Make it as engaging as possible to capture the viewers’ attention and entice them to watch it until the end.
  • Promotion. Promote your brand for about five seconds. It can be just a logo with music, or more.
  • Body. This should last three to eight minutes. Depending on what you want to share, the main part of the video can vary in length.
  • Call to action. The final scene and call to action should last about 10 seconds. Many bloggers use this part to ask the audience to like the video and subscribe. Also, you can add an end card directing viewers to other videos on your channel or page.

Step 4. Publishing and Promoting Your Video

While it may seem that publishing a video is a piece of cake and your work is done, there are some best practices to drive more traffic.

1. Export in a High Quality

For your viewers to have a better experience, it’s important to ensure that it has the highest quality possible when exported. For example, the Bucketlistly Blog advises using the ProRes 422 format to have high quality without the huge file size. You can then upload this file to the Adobe Premiere Pro and compress the video while retaining its quality.

2. Drive Traffic in the First 24 Hours

If you publish your video on YouTube, driving as much traffic as possible within the first 24 hours after publishing is a decisive factor for your video’s success. You’ll show the algorithm that your video is particularly relevant and good, and deserves to be shown to more people. So, the objective is to get as many views, likes, and comments as possible during the first day. If you count on SEO in terms of traffic, your strategy will likely be different, because it takes time for Google to rank and start sending you traffic.

3. Optimize Video With Keywords

Adding keywords to the video title, description and meta tags will help drive more traffic. You can start with the Google Keyword Planner to find keywords with high search volume. Here is where to add keywords to optimize your video for YouTube:

  • File name. Before uploading the video, name it using a keyword.
  • Title. Add keywords at the beginning of the video title but ensure that it makes sense.
  • Description. On YouTube, you can add a description below the video. It’s common to include keywords once every 100 words to not be spammy. Description length varies a lot among vloggers, some write about 300-500 words.
  • Tags. Use keywords as tags. Remember about synonyms and related keywords.
  • Thumbnail image. Enticing thumbnails can boost your clicks and what you can achieve through attractive images and relevant keywords.
  • Subtitles. While creating subtitles takes time, they can greatly improve user experience and widen your audience through inclusivity.

4. Send Your Video to Your Email List

If you have a newsletter, you can share a new video with the subscribers. Thus, you’ll ensure more traffic and stay in touch with your followers.

5. Share Your Video on Social Networks

Another way to promote a video is to share it on social media. Some vloggers take advantage of Instagram and Facebook lives as they find it useful to drive more engagement. You can share the full video or make a teaser and encourage the audience to click the link and keep watching.

6. Create Memes or Infographics

An advanced promotion strategy is to create funny memes and infographics to drum up interest. Such content works great on its own, and together with a quality video, it can make a slash in your traffic! Make sure to add a CTA to see the full-length video. The goal here is to boost interest and get as many shares as possible.

If you like traveling, making travel videos is one of the best ways to share your adventures with your audience and encourage them to explore the world. Make sure to create videos that share your travel tips and tricks and help your audience plan for their own travels.

A travel vlog will not only help you grow a loyal community, it will also connect you to other travel enthusiasts and boost your affiliate marketing conversions.

For the last two years, we were faced with travel restrictions as the world grappled with a global health crisis. Now that many restrictions are being lifted, those of us itching to travel are making plans for our next vacation.

Perhaps more than ever, we want our vacations to be memorable, and we want to share those travel memories with our friends and family through social media. The best way to capture and revisit the moments of a great trip is to create travel videos.

While we may shoot every thrilling activity, scenic view, and delicious meal during the trip, editing travel videos prudently will make them more engaging for your friends, family, and social media followers.

Now, let’s look at some of the practical tips for making a great travel video!

1. Choose the Right Camera for You

Whether you want to start a travel-centric YouTube channel or simply share your trip memories in Instagram reels with your friends, the first step to creating travel videos is acquiring the necessary camera gear. Most importantly, having the correct equipment to create great travel videos begins with choosing the right camera for you.

For example, it is better for those who are not familiar with aperture and shutter speed to opt for a camera with user-friendly automatic settings. Instead of investing in an expensive DSLR like professional travel videographers may use, beginner-level travel video creators can opt for a compact or mirrorless camera that captures high-resolution video at a lower price point.

Therefore, we recommend the Sony ZV-1 for beginner travel vloggers. It’s an excellent camera for shooting travel videos for several reasons.

First of all, this camera was specifically designed with content creators in mind. Therefore, it comes with a 3-inch LCD flipscreen, which is handy when recording yourself. Secondly, the automatic exposure tracks faces to ensure you or whomever you are shooting is well-lit. Third, image stabilization reduces camera shake as you walk around landmarks, national parks, and historic sites on your travels while recording 4K high-resolution video.

At a time when short and full-length feature films have been filmed on smartphones , you may already have your go-to travel camera in your hand as you read this post. In particular, the Sony Xperia 1 III is highly rated for video recording, and Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro and larger iPhone 13 Pro Max offer professional-level capabilities for capturing both travel videos and still photography.

2. Use an Easy Tool for Editing Travel Videos

So many video editing applications for mobile devices and traditional video editing software programs are on the market these days. You may be overwhelmed with the options and wonder which is best for editing travel videos.

For beginners, there is an awesome easy video editing software . It’s a powerful tool with filters, effects, templates, stickers, and more to streamline the video editing process. With this video editor, you can make travel videos to share across various platforms, such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

3. Watch Travel Videos for Inspiration

Making travel videos may not be as easy as you might have thought! So, first, watch existing travel videos on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, or other social media platforms to gather ideas.

By watching other travel content creators’ videos, you’ll be inspired to create your own while learning some tricks for framing beautiful shots.

4. Pick Your Favorite Platform

Every website and social media platform has its own video specifications that you need to follow before uploading your travel videos. Hence, it is good to select the platform first before you start your hard work.

Before you even begin shooting your video, you should become acquainted with your desired platform’s specifications. Then upload some videos to test how the platform performs.

5. Prepare Your Camera Settings

Once you have practiced shooting videos at home and are ready to take your trip, you’ll want to keep your camera settings ready. Changing a photo setting while you are traveling can be cumbersome. Therefore, having two memory buttons set to 4K and 25fps will be a good idea.

6. Plan Your Travel Video Shoots Ahead of Time

When creating a travel video, planning your shoots ahead of time is key.

Most importantly, you need to think about when to shoot for the optimal natural light. Early mornings and just before dusk — often called the golden hour — are usually best for getting breathtaking shots.

Also, as you plan your travel shoots, keep in mind that shooting too little footage will not let you have enough shots when you begin to edit videos after your trip.

At the same time, overshooting will make your task of editing videos lengthy and cumbersome.

Striking the right balance will take some practice, but, don’t worry, you will get there soon.

7. Tell a Story Through Your Travel Videos

Storytelling is the best way to keep your audience engaged with your travel video. After you complete your trip , try to find a common thread and weave a story out of it.

Of course, the places of historical importance will have their own stories, which you can include while editing videos after your trip .

While you are traveling, record some short clips of the locals and the people you meet during your trip. You can weave their voices and commentary into your video for an interesting contrast to your own voice. This also gives your viewer a break from listening to your voiced-over monologue for the entire video. 😉

8. Keep Video Clips Short and Sweet

Your audience likely has a short attention span , and social media users today move from one post to the next very quickly losing interest faster than a goldfish!

Therefore, you want to keep your travel videos concise and attention-grabbing. For a platform like Instagram, your travel videos should be 90 seconds or shorter and easily understood without sound.

Instead of capturing everything from your vacation in one video, you can create shorter travel videos highlighting various parts of your trip.

travel video format

9. Shoot Your Travel Video Using the Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is taught in most photography classes, and for good reason. It’s a cardinal rule of both photography and videography.

Usually, in videos, your main subject should not fill the entire frame. Instead, think of your shot’s frame as being divided into thirds both horizontally and vertically. Rather than placing your subject in the center of the shot, you want the main object, person, or animal set off to the side. The photo above is a prime example of this concept.

10. Add Music to Your Travel Video

Lastly, though you want your travel video to tell a story, that is not always accomplished with explanations and voiceovers. Using music will help your viewers emotionally connect with your video.

Therefore, when you have captured the scenic beauty of a destination, it is often better to infuse background music that syncs with the video’s theme.

Final Thoughts on How to Make a Travel Video

Before you book your flights and hotel rooms for your next vacation, begin practicing shooting and editing videos at home. For example, you can take a local day trip and shoot the entire day’s activities keeping the rule of thirds and short clips in mind.

Then, using the video editing platform we shared, get to the work of editing videos . It will require a good amount of practice before you master the art of creating engaging travel videos, but with the tools and tips mentioned in this post, you will be on your way.

Bon Voyage and happy shooting!

Tips for Shooting a Travel Video

From choosing a format to shooting with an iPhone, learn how you can make a brag-worthy travel video.

August 15, 2018

Trevor Holmes

Whether you’re going to a conference in a new city, visiting a customer or client, or just traveling for work, there’s always a good reason to document your journey with video. One of the best things about travel videos is that they follow a natural arc — you’re heading somewhere to do something. Travel videos also provide the refine your on-the-go video making skills and experiment with new approaches. So, with all of this in mind, let’s roll into some tips for shooting a travel video!

Pick a platform

This is a super important, but often overlooked step when it comes to making travel videos — start with a plan! Where will this video live? On your website or on one of your social media channels? Picking a video format and platform you’re posting to before you start can relieve you of some major headaches later on. Afterall, you may even shoot your video entirely differently depending on where it lives — you might shoot vertically for Instagram, square for Facebook, or horizontal for your website.

Take a minute before you get started to decide which channel or audience is right for this content. This takes a lot of the guesswork out of things from day one. For example, on my cross-country road trip, I knew I wanted to post all the shots I got to Instagram Stories and IGTV, so I made sure to keep everything in the 9:16 vertical format.

Choose a camera

Now that you know what format you’ll be shooting in, it’s time to figure out what type of gear you should shoot with! When I first started preparing for my travel video, I went a little overboard at first. I packed all my cameras, lenses, microphones, tripods, SD cards … you know, the work. But, I quickly realized that all of this gear wasn’t really necessary, and actually raised the barrier for me to shoot video.

So, if you’re shooting a travel video, try to pick a camera you’re super comfortable with and that is quick and easy to use. Chances are, there are going to be moments throughout your trip that you’ll want to capture at a moment’s notice, and having a camera that you’re comfortable with, whether that’s a DSLR or an iPhone, will lower the barrier for you to start shooting.

Shooting on a phone

Awesome, it’s time to get started shooting your travel video! You’re going to want to use a video that’s durable, simple, and most importantly, ready to go at a moment’s notice. And what better phone to shoot video with than a trusty iPhone? The best parts about traveling are the spontaneous moments you experience throughout, and sometimes, if you have a clunky camera kicking around, you can miss those moments. A phone in your pocket helps you capture the entire journey!

Let’s dig into some helpful tips to keep in mind when shooting video with a phone:

  • Slow-mo is great for making your shots look more cinematic. Be careful not to over-do it though! Use slow-mo strategically and easily up the quality of your video with some cool looking shots.
  • Time-lapse mode is perfect for travel videos, especially when it comes to capturing your scenery. Taking off on an airplane? Watching a sunset? Let that camera roll. You can use this as b-roll later on in your edit!
  • Shooting video solo ? Get yourself a Joby Gorillapod and a phone mount. They’re both pretty cheap and can act as a tripod when you don’t have anyone else to help you get the shot you need.

Shooting on a DSLR

Not a fan of the phone? Don’t sweat it! You can use a DSLR to shoot your travel video — remember, it’s all about what you’re most comfortable with. When I shot my cross-country video, I used the following setup:

  • A Canon M50 w/ 15–45mm lens
  • A Rode Video Micro
  • A Joby Gorilla Pod

I picked this set up because it was small, had a flip-out screen, had the ability to have an on-camera mic, and because the tripod was flexible for on-the-go shooting. This was perfect for setting up stationary shots anywhere and great for whenever I wanted to turn the camera around and do a quick narrative. Plus, it all fits into the small backpack I carried with me everywhere!

Does your DSLR have wifi? Use a remote app to monitor your shot if you’re far away from your camera.

Keep your lighting top of mind

When shooting a travel video, it’s super important to consider your lighting, just like you would in any other video. In this case, however, you’ll almost always rely on natural light for your shots, so try to keep your eye on the time.

Remember, you’ll get great footage when the sun is lower in the sky, so chase that sun! Be sure to check out an app called Magic Hour, which tells you when the next sunrise or sunset will be, and how long of a window you have for that perfect, golden light.

Use music strategically

Let’s face it, this is travel video, so the audio is probably going to be all over the place. From being in different environments to shooting on multiple devices, chances are you might not get great audio all the time — and that’s OK! Embrace this during your edit by relying on music to make the whole story come together.

Let your camera roll

On a plane? In a car? At a restaurant? Turn that camera on!

Part of what makes a travel video so engaging is highlighting the people who make the trip special. Even if that’s just you! So feature your travel buddies often — it’ll help make your story more authentic and human. And don’t be afraid to overshoot. You can always cut more from the final product, and you never know when something interesting is going to happen.

It’s travel time

There you have it! I hope these tips helped prepare you for your next travel video. Do you have any go-to tips or tricks when it comes to shooting video on the road? Share with us in the comments!

how to make better travel videos

Last Updated on: Jun 9, 2022

Creating a travel video is a fantastic method to relive memories while also sharing your journey with others. Whether you’re working with a company or making the movie for your pleasure, you’re going to want the top-notch travel video. YouTube and other social sites are full of travel videos. Still, only a few of them make an impression on the minds of the people who watch them. It is possible to enhance your video-making talents while on the road by creating travel movies , and you may experiment with many new ways to record a spectacular video. For those of you who have no idea how to create an eye-catching travel video, we’ve put up a list of the ten most essential tips you need to know.

Top Techniques for Creating Travel Videos that you must follow

1. pick your destination.

Photographing Mahaldiram offbeat place near Kurseong

It’s great to go on unplanned trips, but if you’re planning on making a travel video to commemorate your journey, knowing where you’re going ahead of time is a big help! Before you depart, prepare a rough schedule of where you’ll be going and when you’ll be there so that you can plan accordingly.

Planning your final video using this information can help you prepare for your trip, as well as learn about the sights you’ll see on your way there. Use weather forecasts and images of each place to understand the types of shots expected while you’re there. When it comes to taking the perfect clips, the time of day is also quite important.

2. Pack your travel videos wisely

Following that, once you’ve determined the format you’ll be shooting in, it’s crucial to pick what kind of equipment you’ll be using. Many of them bring a slew of gear, including cameras, lenses, microphones, tripods, and SD cards. However, if you think about your travel plans with a clear mind, you will most likely realize that you do not require as much as you might assume.

3. Shoot wisely

Collecting as much as possible is fantastic advice because it provides you with a plethora of data to work from. A common misinterpretation of “shooting enough” is synonymous with “over capturing.” It is customary to begin making videos as soon as they get to their location. Recording unnecessary clips have no use other than to lengthen the time spent on video trimmer in post-production. Unnecessary shots are a waste of time since they merely slow down your editing process.

Instead of creating a video, you should concentrate on enjoying the natural beauty. Never forget that you’re on vacation to relax and enjoy yourself, not shoot a film. Keep a record of the memories and experiences you truly want to recall and cherish for the rest of your life. To get the most stunning movies, capture your videos when optimum lighting is usually early in the morning or around sunset.

4. Add Narrative to a Travel Film

Include narration in your story if you want to make it more engaging. Narration can be added in two ways: during your journey and after you return home from it. If you’d like your narration to appear in your video, be sure to talk or shoot yourself in the face when you’re recording or shooting. After the trip has concluded, adding a narrative is also an excellent chance to reflect on your vacation experiences. All that is required is the creation of a screenplay and the recording of it.

5. Carry a wide range of your shots

Capturing videos on Gopro

You must experiment with and variety the methods of capturing videos to maintain the viewers’ interest. Experiment with advanced features such as time-lapse photography, slow spinning, and shooting from a moving vehicle. Graphics and filters are also available during the editing process to give the final product a little glitz and glam. You must employ motion to convey enthusiasm and energy in the scene. Various techniques can be used to bring the video to life, including hyper-lapse, panning, and filming something that is already moving.

6. Editing a video of your trip

Work from Home at houseboat in Kashmir

When the tour is complete, it’s time to settle down and go over the film you’ve captured. Concentrate on the scenes that stand out and eliminate anything that didn’t turn out as good as you had anticipated. Unless you captured something spectacular, the world doesn’t need to watch your hazy or shaky footage, so don’t bother sharing it. Following your decision on which clips to use, take a step back and consider the story you’re attempting to convey and how you may employ some of the tactics listed above to bring that tale to life in your video production. With the help of a video trimmer , you can put together your final travel video for editing to cut unnecessary parts & make it more attractive.

7. Add music to your travel videos

Choosing the right song for your epic journey montage is essential. Still, if you attempt to share your film on a public platform without first obtaining the necessary permissions, you may find yourself in legal trouble. Look for music free of copyright so that you and your friends can enjoy your video. This is music available for download and usage for free on the internet. Remember to give proper credit to the source!

8. Consistency is the essential factor.

Beginner filmmakers tend to be inconsistent, whereas professional videographers tend to be consistent. In general, the most successful trip video artists are dependable, which separates them from the competition. Consistency is essential when it comes to uploading travel footage. This is the most effective and only method of attracting attention and climbing the ladder of success. You could use an editor to polish your video and guarantee that it meets a particular level of professional quality and consistency throughout.

9. Watch a lot of travel videos.

Watching trip films is an excellent method to become acquainted with various pictures and be motivated to do something new. Watching trip videos might help you gain a different perspective on your video and provide new ideas for it. When it comes time to shoot, you will be able to incorporate all of your new ideas into something truly unique and spectacular .

9 Amazing Techniques You Can Use to Make Better Travel Videos

Creating a trip film that captures the viewer’s attention might be difficult. Everybody is different, so you don’t know what the people in the audience like and don’t like. Here are some of the best ideas for creating your next travel video. When watching travel films, you’ll notice a clear arc that leads to a place of mental peace.

How to Make a Travel Video That People Actually Watch?

' src=

Travel videography is an art, and not everyone is an artist. YouTube and other social media platforms are full of travel videos, but few of them actually leave an imprint on viewers’ minds.

Want to make your video stand out? Here’s a rundown of six effective tips to make your travel videos worth watching.

1. Shoot smartly

Capturing as much as you can is excellent advice as it gives you plenty of material to work with. However, video creators often misunderstand “shooting enough” with “over capturing.” They usually start recording videos from the moment they reach their destination.

There is no point in capturing unnecessary shots as it will only enhance your editing time. Your focus should be on exploring the beauty of a place rather than creating a video. Don’t forget that you are there to enjoy your vacation and not for footage.

Record the moments that you genuinely want to remember and cherish for a lifetime. Also, shoot your videos when lighting is at its best, usually in the early morning or around sunset, to get beautiful clips.

2. Keep in mind the Frame per Second and Frame Rate

The second most important step to making great travel videos is to keep FPS and Frame Rate in check. FPS, or Frame Per Second , is a simple yet effective camera setting to produce great results.

Standard films used to be 24 FPS. Although 24 pictures per second are fast enough to capture most actions, it still allows the directors to shoot the content without missing any important detail.

However, the introduction of cheap digital cameras and tons of video editor options have changed the entire scenario. With plentiful storage devices, you can easily shoot video in whatever format you like, be it slow-mo, HD, or others. All you have to pick is your Frames Per Second to get started. 60fps is a go-to option as it makes the video worth viewing.

Multiplying your frame rate makes your videos smoother and more professional. Don’t worry if you are using the phone to create videos, as smartphones are available with four different FPS settings that you can change in less than 10 seconds.

Also, keep in mind the fact that increasing FPS makes your video files larger. Hence, you need to carry some backup storage device like a hard drive to save the captured data. If your phone is stuffed with apps or if you travel without any backup device, then 60 FPS might not be the best option for you.

Let’s look at the FPS rates and storage space here to have a better idea.

  • 720p HD at 30fps:  60 MB
  • 1080HD at 30fps: 130 MB
  • 1080HD at 60fps: 200 MB

3. Focus on the destination and not on yourself

travel video

One common mistake most travel video creators make is capturing shots focusing mainly on themselves rather than the destination. Remember that viewers are not concerned about your routine, how you spend your vacation or your life in general. They browse your videos to explore the destination and drop it if they don’t find worthy content.

Travel videos are supposed to tell a story about a location, reflect the culture, showcase the local customs, food, etc. This platform is not about showing off your life or achievements. Hence,  include fewer videos of all the parties or adventure activities you enjoyed. Instead, showcase the destination’s history, people and architecture. Curate moments and tell a unique and engaging story that will inspire others to visit.

4. Diversify your shots

Videographers must experiment and diversify how they capture shots to develop the viewers’ interest. Try using advanced features like time-lapse, slow spinning, or shooting on a moving vehicle. In addition to this, you can also use graphics and filters at the time of editing to add some sparkle to the final video. It is essential to use motion to capture the excitement and energy of the place. This can be done in several ways, including hyper-lapse, panning, or shooting something already moving to bring the video to life.

5. Consistency is the key

The significant difference between amateur and professional videographers is consistency. The best travel video creators are typically consistent, and this is what distinguishes them from the crowd.

Upload your travel videos regularly to maintain consistency. This is the best and the only way to grab attention and climb the ladder of success. You can use a video editor to refine your video and ensure that it is of a certain professional standard.

But even the best video editor cannot help you if you aren’t going to be regular or frequent with the video creation process. Decide the interval, say a week, 15 days, or a month and upload videos accordingly. This ignites the spark among the audience and leaves them with the urge to revisit your channel.

6. Connect your shots in a meaningful way

Capturing the best moments, adding lively music, and uploading video regularly doesn’t make any sense if your video is not meaningful. You need to connect the shots so that they tell a story and engage the viewers until the end.

Most travel videos look like a bunch of random clips stitched together with no purpose or no story behind them. If you wish to make your videos stand out from the crowd, pay attention to how the clips are connected before uploading them.

Creating a travel video that hooks the audience can be tricky. You never know what the audience actually likes and dislikes. So, it’s best to go with tried and tested tips and tricks to grab their attention. Make your videos worth the audience’s time to ensure that they visit your channel again.

You do not need a reason to make a stunning travel video. The mere fact that you are traveling is reason enough to make a video. After all, how will the world know about the exotic destinations that you have already checked off from your bucket list? How will you relive those travel memories?

Tips on How to Create Great Travel Videos | Outside Suburbia

Travel videos are fun to make, but unfortunately, many individuals find them intimidating. And to an extent, they are intimidating, considering that there’s a lot that you need to capture. And above everything else, your videos should look clean, beautiful, and stunning. How is that even possible?

That’s possible if you go through the 10 tips below on how to create the most stunning travel videos:

WHAT IS IN THIS POST

Tips on How to Create Great Travel Videos

1. choose an online platform.

Choosing an online platform is important as different platforms have their very own video specifications. For example, a video made for a site will not suit the specifications of a video made for social media marketing channels.

Therefore, choosing a platform and a video format beforehand is very important. It will give you significant relief from the headaches you will have to go through later.

2. Take Inspiration

One of the best ways of creating stunning travel videos is by exploring the travel videos of some experts online. Proper research will help you erase the complex thoughts and confusion in your mind.

You will get a rational point where you can start your video. Consider research as a reference for your video-making assignment. Watching top-quality tour-based films and videos will not only help you in getting some of the most innovative ideas but will also inspire you to try out something different.

3. Be Wise in Choosing Shooting Gear

Once you know the format of your travel video, it will get easier for you to pack the shooting gear you need for the job. The commonplace items for the project include microphones, cameras, lenses, SD cards, tripods, and various other things like drones, GoPro or other action cameras.

Travel videos are completely different from standard video content. Your equipment will change as you visit different places for the shoot. Getting mesmerizing footage will only be easy if you have the right equipment to capture great shots of the location.

4. Pick the Right Camera

Choosing a camera you are completely comfortable with is a wise decision. Also, ensure that the camera you have chosen is easy to use. Keep in mind that, you will come across instances when you will have to shoot something at very short notice during the trip.

Therefore, you must be comfortable with your camera, no matter whether you are using a DSLR or your iPhone. Nothing is wrong with using a smartphone if you have limited resources. These days you can shoot decent videos with just an iPhone!

The slow-mo feature available with most smartphones these days is great for making the clips look more cinematic . Using this feature efficiently and strategically will raise the quality of your video.

5. Add a Human Touch

The majority of the travel videos these days have speakers or anchors narrating events and places during a trip. Such videos are better than those where the audiences are left to themselves when it comes to cherishing the captured experiences.

Human beings love seeing characters on screen. Adding characters to your travel video will merely make any difference, but it will undoubtedly be better than seeing shots of places without any narration. That is monotonous, isn’t it?

While I have created a few travel videos, my goal for 2023 is to focus more on them and learn to be more efficient in creating them. I like to keep it short and simple. Plus I need to be brave and add my voice to the videos 🙂 Check out what we have so far and let me know your thoughts.

6. Keep Your Content Sweet and Short

These days, people online do not have a lot of time to spare. They get bored very easily and quickly. If you do not want to lose the attention of the viewers, avoid making your video lengthy.

Even the original clips within the video should be short, simple, and sweet. You can do this by using the right video editor. While condensing your travel video, ensure to give each shot some required amount of time.

7. Use Special Tricks in Editing Your Video

Editing has the power of turning day into night. But the problem is that it can work both fantastically and terrifically for you based on the way you use it. The proper shot arrangement is the key here and if you are clueless about this, start researching.

Go through related content online and seek ideas on editing your video in the right way. You even have the option of using the best free online video editor . They offer marvelous transitions, in-built music, and super-easy interfaces perfect for beginners.

Tips on How to Create Great Videos

8. Keep the Focus on Lighting

The lighting in a travel video is very important. The best rule here is to depend on natural light as much as possible. But then again, you will have to keep an eye on the right timing to grab natural light.

You will get some of the most stunning shots when the sun is low in the sky. Consider the positioning of the sun when starting to shoot a clip.

9. Be As Steady and As Smooth As Possible

Being steady while shooting a travel video means having steady hands, so you do not end up with blurred or unrecognizable shots. Make sure your shots appear as if you have taken them while floating in the air.

It works to check the camera settings before starting with the shoot. Make sure to get the camera settings right and perfectly match the environment you have chosen for the shoot. This will help you in avoiding unnecessary headaches later on.

10. Make Wise Use of Music

The audio is essential in your video. It should be there throughout the video but make sure you choose good quality music. You cannot include the original sound of the environment in your video. It will make the video look unprofessional and local.

Choose music that can put the whole video together and go for a theme you can depend on.

Travel videos are not just about capturing the best moments of your journey on camera . They are also a good way of refining your on-the-go video-making skills. Making travel videos will also give you the chance to experiment with a number of new approaches too. With the best tips on making travel videos, you can create visuals that avid travelers will find interesting and enticing too.

How to Make Your First Travel Video in 3 Easy Steps

If you have some trips booked, perhaps you're considering creating your first video of it but aren't sure where to get started. Well, in this video, you'll get some great tips on how to begin and turn that journey into more than just an album of snaps.

Perhaps you're a bit like me: primarily a photographer, but with a persistent curiosity and enjoyment for video. I'll never stop taking photographs — that's for sure — but I consume an awful lot of video content and I can't help but see some of my trips in video format in my mind's eye. I have had to create videos several times for work, but for personal uses, I rarely venture past my mobile phone.

There are lots of useful tips in this video by Thomas Alex Norman, but in my experience, the one that stands out is the last. Norman may not have meant it quite how I took it, but whenever I create a video (or even shoot a collection of photos), I try to get more content than I will ever need. It's far better to have to sift through a large body of raw footage than it is to realize you didn't capture enough. Also — and perhaps this is merely a matter of experience — I often find that I have more ideas when I'm in post that require footage I hadn't accounted for. So, by capturing as much as I can, from as many angles as I can, I give myself far more breathing space when it comes to the edit.

Miscellaneous

Making a travel video doesn’t really need much gear, but some things are essential for a good travel or documentary video. Here’s our checklist:

Camera chargers and spare batteries

Extra memory cards and/or an external hard drive

A tripod or a monopod

Secure cases and bags for transporting your equipment

An external microphone with a wind screen

Shoot great footage: 4 Important things to remember

Film at chest level

Instinctively, we tend to hold the camera at eye level, because that’s the way we normally see things. But lowering the camera angle makes everything seem larger and more impressive. However, if you’re shooting action sports video using a GoPro, an eye-level footage will be more captivating.

Select highlights

People want to be amazed – show them the best moments of your adventure: breathtaking vistas, stylish cocktails, wild parties, exotic animals, romantic old streets and canals. No-one wants to see a boring documentary with your standard hotel rooms or drive from the airport.

Give context

Everyone loves stories: let your audience know where you are and what’s going on to really engage them in your video. Look for opportunities to establish context while filming. In videography, there are the three main ways to add context:

Voice commentary. Tell your viewers what’s happening and how you feel about it

Visual narrative. Create continuity through editing by arranging scenes into a meaningful sequence

Text. Create an opening title sequence or add captions to the video

Focus on the people you’re with

Stories work best when they have different characters in them. Capture your travel companions or locals in the places you’re filming, so your viewers will have someone to identify with. Recording the emotions and reactions of other people also makes great movie material.

Step 1. Install the Movavi’s travel video editing software

Download this handy video maker for Windows or Mac, depending on your operating system. Run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the program. Once Movavi Video Editor has been installed, launch it and choose New Project on the welcome screen. Now, to learn how to create a travel video with Movavi Video Editor, proceed to the following steps.

Step 2. Import your footage

Click Add Media Files to import the music files and video footage you want to use in your travel diary video. All files will be automatically added to the Timeline in the lower half of the program window. Drag your clips along the Video track to move and rearrange them.

Step 3. Improve the quality of the video

Most common problems of the travel video footage come from its spontaneity: you don’t have much time to set up your equipment properly or plan your shots. You can fix over- and underexposure, stabilize shaky cam and crop your frame if needed. Select the clip you want to fix and click Clip properties . In the Tools menu that opens, you’ll find options for Stabilization as well as Color Adjustments . Use the Crop and Rotate tool to fix framing issues if needed.

If you were filming at multiple locations under various light conditions, your movie will look much more professional if you do color grading. Color grading means making sure that color values look good and are consistent in your video. In the Color Adjustments tab, switch to Manual Adjustments and work with temperature, saturation, hue and other color parameters of your clips. Also, check out the Filters tab and try out Color filters to give your visuals an extra punch.

Step 4. Cut footage and add transitions

Travel videos shouldn’t be long unless you’re filming a semi-professional documentary. Select the juiciest and most exciting parts of your trip and arrange them in a meaningful way that will show how you felt and what you experienced on the trip. Use the Split button to cut your footage into scenes. If there are parts you want to delete, select the unwanted footage and click Delete on your keyboard.

For travel video, regular jump cuts are usually enough, but if you want to spice up transitions between scenes, go to the Transitions tab and try out animated transition styles like Crossfade or Zoom, as well as various Blur-ins and Wipes.

Step 5. Add music

Whether you’re planning to use original sound from your video footage or not, additional music is essential to engage your viewers and cause emotional response. You can discard original sound altogether and make a dynamic music video out of your travel video footage. Choose music to taste and sync action in your video to the music drops and rhythm changes – that will attract and keep your viewers’ attention.

Go back to the Import tab and click Add Media Files to choose a tune. If you can’t think of one, there’s a whole collection of built-in music tracks in the video editor: click Music and drag the track you like onto the Timeline .

Step 6. Add titles

Remember the talk about giving context to engage viewers? Use titles and captions to tell everyone about your traveling experience. The Movavi’s travel video maker has over 40 animated title styles: animated title screens, credits, lower thirds, and captions. To add text to your video, go to the Titles tab, select the style you like and drag it onto the timeline. Double click the added title clip to open its properties, then double click the text field(s) to edit the text. In the Clip Properties , set duration and speed of the text animation. Hit Apply to save changes.

7 Simple Yet Powerful Travel Video Storytelling Tips

Video storytelling can make your travel videos go from MEH to WOW. Check out these 7 simple yet powerful video storytelling tips for your Youtube or social media content.

I have already shared 7 tips on making travel videos for beginners . Today, let’s dive deeper into video making: I’ll tell you about travel storytelling through videos.

As travel videos are becoming more and more popular, storytelling is becoming one of the trends in this field. Stories can be more engaging and exciting than top-lists and reviews, they get more feedback, so their popularity is not surprising.

Keep reading this article if you want to increase the views of your videos and the number of your viewers by bringing your travel videos to a new level with the art of storytelling.

travel video format

Why Choose the Video Storytelling Format?

Traveling narrative has become a big hit these days, and it is also an excellent way to promote yourself and your video blog. Traveling storytelling is all about traveling and travelers, and this topic is trendy these days.

Travel storytelling is all about connecting with the people on your journey. This could be through many videos you will make, reviews you will create for people to watch, and many other ways you can use to promote yourself as a travel videographer and vlogger and tell people how you can help them.

Storytelling can work great as it helps to build an emotional connection with your viewers. People like stories about other people, and they are more likely to listen to you if you make an impression that you are just sharing moments from your journey with your friends. Also, stories can be even more interesting for the audience than reviews and top-lists, so viewers will come back to your blog for the new content.

Thus, travel video storytelling can help you attract a new audience and grab their attention with exciting content so that they stay with you for a long time.

What Can Help You Make Your Storytelling Video Amazing?

Although it might seem quite simple – just to shoot videos and post them, it cannot be enough to reach success. The reason is – video making has its pitfalls, just like all other fields. Moreover, today, travel video editing plays as important a role as shooting. Thus, it is necessary to pay attention to it also.

Here, I will share some tips on shooting and editing storytelling videos with you.

Write a Script

The first thing you need to do is to write a script for your future video. First, you should choose a story you want to tell your viewers and think about how you can film it. Second, it is necessary to decide on the location and characters of your story, how to show them the most lively and expressive way. And third, you need to write down in detail what will go on in your video in minutes.

A script can help you avoid awkward silence and unnecessary words and actions in your video. Also, it will help you not to forget about essential details you need to say or show. Thus, your story will be complete, and there will be no extra information your viewers don’t need.

travel video format

Choose the Location for Shooting

While choosing the place for filming, you need to consider if this place is essential for the story you are going to tell or not. The location can be almost a character of the story – or just a background for it.

If the location is going to be a vital detail of your story, highlight it in the video. Then, you can choose a special place that can also be an expressive part of the story. In this case, you will also need to select the correct time of the day so that the light was the most suitable for you.

If the place is not so crucial for the video, you need to choose the most neutral location that will not grab the viewers’ attention from the main story.

Add Authenticity

Though people want to watch a story that has happened to other people, they also want to see the uniqueness of another country and another culture. This is what makes a travel blog or travel YouTube different from others, and this is what viewers look for when they visit one.

This means it can be a good idea to show your audience various parts of the authentic culture as you see them while traveling. This will make your viewers feel that they are sharing your experience, and such an emotional connection is your aim.

Another thing that storytelling in videos can accomplish is to let your viewers feel an authentic local experience, even if they’re not there. You can create the atmosphere of another culture so that viewers could imagine themselves in this journey. This is a valuable point for many people who watch travel videos.

travel video format

Don’t Show “What,” Show “How”

The value of a story is that it is a personalized experience of a particular human. That is what your audience wants to see – your experience, your thoughts about it, your impressions and emotions. So feel free to express your opinions and feelings as it makes viewers think that they are watching a real story that happened to real people.

It can be a good idea to show how you deal with obstacles instead of a detailed presentation of these obstacles. If people want to know facts, they can read the news; if they come to your blog or YouTube channel, they need other people’s experience.

Don’t Neglect Video Editing

As I have already mentioned, editing is at least as important as shooting today. The quantity of video content is constantly increasing, so viewers become more demanding. People like beautiful pictures and smoothly edited videos, so using special software can be an excellent idea.

An excellent example of such software is Movavi Video Editor . It can help you with all kinds of editing you may need: cutting, cropping, rotating, resizing, and merging videos, adding music, filters, and effects to them, and much more. It is worth mentioning that there is the Chroma Key option.

Also, the program has a built-in effects library; among effects, you can find transitions, backgrounds, stickers, titles, royalty-free music, and more.

travel video format

Choose the Proper Pace

This advice can be suitable for both shooting and editing processes. Thus, it would be best if you chose a pace that would not be too fast or too slow so that viewers feel comfortable.

If the pace is too fast, people might feel they can’t cope with it; it can be tiresome and irritating. However, if the pace is too slow, viewers can quickly become bored; in this case, they can just close the video. An essential point is: the pace should not change chaotically and unexpectedly during one video. It would be best if you choose one pace and keep it.

Keep Learning

Like in most spheres, in video making, it is necessary to keep developing constantly. Something new appears every day, and if you want to stay at the top, you need to explore recent trends, ideally – create them yourself. Learning new techniques of shooting and editing your footage can be exciting, and it can help you succeed with your Youtube storytelling videos.

Using these tips, you can bring your traveling videos to a new level – your followers and subscribers will notice the impact of storytelling. Are you already into creating storytelling travel videos? Share your experience in the comments!

What is travel filmmaking?

Travel filmmaking or cinematography is somewhat vaguely defined as the art of creating films about traveling and exploring a region or country. However, making captivating visual stories about your adventures is often more complex than it sounds.

Following the tips and techniques below will help elevate your craft and give your films a professional, cinematic feel that stands out.

Travel filmmaking vs travel vlogging

Before we get started, let's get our terminology straight. What is the difference between travel filmmaking, travel cinematography and travel vlogging?

The differences can be subtle. So subtle in fact, that filmmaking and cinematography refer to practically the same thing: the art and craft of making motion pictures. This consists of many things, like lighting, composition, depth of field and much more.

Travel vlogging is marginally different. It's the personal reflection of tourists and travelers, in a video format. There is often overlap, but ultimately you don't have to be a cinematographer to vlog, and you don't need to be a vlogger to work with travel filmmaking either. If you want to learn more, check out our article about travel vlogging!

Tips to improve your travel cinematography

Before you get started, there are a few things you should consider. Spending a little extra time in the preproduction or planning phase can really pay off, so try to stop for a minute and think about your vision.

travel video format

1. Do you research

It's hard to make decisions if you don't know what your options are. Before committing to any big choices, go to YouTube or Vimeo and explore the travel videos out there. Don't try to copy your peers, just gather inspiration!

Travel films come in different styles and aesthetics. Do you want to make something fast-paced, with high energy and a lot of stunts? Or would you rather showcase the local culture and cuisine over chill Lo-Fi beats? Having your vision set means you're ready to get the shots you need for a coherent project.

Pros of planning and cons of overpreparation

Doing your research during preproduction is necessary to avoid a chaotic editing phase since your footage just doesn't fit together.

Learn at least a little about your destination before arrival. Having an overarching story or key points planned for your travel film can help tie things together.

But be warned: having your travel film planned out scene-by-scene, and shot-by-shot is a surefire way to turn your vacation into a full-time filming gig.

2. Adjust your attitude

Make the decision in advance: are you on holiday? The dedication to visit Bondi Beach or the Taj Mahal and not take a day off is impressive, but it's up to you whether it's necessary. You can go with the flow and take breaks from filming, or you can shoot every second you spend adventuring.

To avoid burnout and a generally disappointing experience, decide in advance and adjust your attitude. Commit to work, vacation, or a set balance between the two and roll with it!

3. Find the balance

Are you camera shy? Whether you're really into travel vlogging or want to make objective documentaries, you should decide the broad split between commentary and visuals in advance.

Generally speaking, you should try to aim for some consistency. But rules are meant to be broken! Just make sure you don't regret not commenting on location or getting extra footage of an event.

4. Master A-roll and B-roll

As a travel filmmaker, the temptation to go all-in on the B-roll can be overwhelming. Once again, aim for a balance. You'll need both beautiful nature or urban shots of your environment, and close-ups of the action, the locals and your company.

As a rule of thumb, always shoot more than the main action. Capturing the small details of your surroundings can immerse the viewers, so they'll feel right at the moment with you.

Techniques to master

travel video format

If you have a general narrative thread for consistency, you're onto traveling and production. While having the right gear for travel filmmaking has a great impact, it's the skill and techniques of the filmmaker that makes or breaks a production.

The techniques below will ensure that you'll create the right feel and a cinematic look to your footage. Hop on a plane, boat or train and get started!

5. Shot variety

To captivate the audience and never bore them, it's important that you don't just vary your topics and environments, but also your shot sizes.

Using a wide variety of shots, like opening with an extreme wide shot and then drawing attention to the details of an antique vase creates movement and flow that your viewers will love to follow. Play with shot sizes, angles and camera movement to achieve your desired look.

If you're ready to film, consider downloading our shot list template . Need to brush up on your knowledge in this area? We got you covered too! Check out our complete shot size, angle and movement overview .

Composition is key. Any expert travel filmmaker could tell you that!

You can use classic composition techniques to elevate your footage and fool the viewers into thinking that they're watching the work of a large-scale, professional production team.

Are you familiar with the rule of thirds, leading lines, and negative spaces? Are you comfortable with your choices about headroom?

If you're feeling a bit uncertain, don't fret! There's plenty of awesome resources and guides out there, like Thomas Alex Norman's YouTube channel . He gives tips and tricks to filmmakers looking to improve the way they're creating content. He also shares his own adventures! Definitely worth checking out.

7. Movement

When it comes to camera movement, smooth shots are key. Unless you're a neurosurgeon by day, you probably don't have the steady hands to pull off a perfect tracking shot or any random movement without the help of the stabilizer.

If you don't already own a gimbal or steadicam, you can always consider buying one or renting a stabilizer with Wedio.

8. Time-lapses and slow-mo

If you're thinking about travel filmmaking staples, you can't miss out on slow-mo and time-lapse shots. They're stunning, cinematic ways of captivating the audience, but nowadays you can even pull them off with a newer smartphone!

travel video format

When all the footage is recorded, and you might have returned home with that typical 'vacation glow', it's time for editing! Post-production will pull all your shots together into a cohesive unit. If you're editing your own travel video, here are some things you need to know.

Pacing is absolutely crucial if you want to pull off a professional look. No matter how great your footage is, if it drags on forever or it's too difficult to follow, no one will take the time to watch it. Make sure you edit with pacing and coherence in mind.

10. Transitions

While regular cuts will get the job done, you can really spice up your footage by using transitions!

Master techniques like the speed ramp transition, mask and in-camera transitions, or a zoom and swipe to dazzle your watchers. If you're not sure where to get started, check out Skillshare's editing courses .

Add some music to make the magic happen. You can use this to evoke the culture and charm the viewers. You can find copyright-free music to use at many places, or even make and use your own soundtrack.

Closing thoughts

travel video format

Starting out on the journey of filming your adventures is a daunting task – I would be intimidated!

Get prepping and keep learning on the go and you're sure to improve your travel filmmaking fast. Don't forget to send me a postcard!

Happy filming!

For TikTok, keep your travel videos short and snappy, aiming for a duration between 15 and 60 seconds. Ensure your videos are in a vertical format, as TikTok is primarily designed for mobile viewing.

Using Hashtags and Descriptions:

To maximize your video’s reach and visibility, include relevant hashtags and descriptive captions. Research popular travel-related hashtags and incorporate them strategically into your video descriptions.

Collaborating with Influencers:

Consider collaborating with influencers or fellow content creators who share a similar niche or audience. Collaborations can help you expand your reach, gain exposure to new audiences, and create unique content through a fresh perspective.

Engaging with the TikTok Community:

Engagement is vital on TikTok. Respond to comments, participate in challenges, and actively engage with the TikTok community. Building genuine connections can increase your following and help your travel videos gain traction.

Creating the perfect travel videos for TikTok requires a combination of creativity, technical skills, and an understanding of the platform’s dynamics. Delve into the diverse world of video file formats and extensions, gaining insights into their characteristics and optimal uses.

Learn Filmmaking | By Yatharth Gupta

If you have issues understanding types of video file formats and extensions, you’re in the right place.

In this comprehensive guide, I will cover everything from the basics of video files to the working of codecs and discuss various file formats in detail.

Whether you’re a creator or just someone who loves watching content online, you would agree that videos have become an essential part of our day-to-day lives.

As photographers and videographers, we can’t ignore the importance of choosing the right video format.

The video file format can influence whether your video appears vibrant and high-quality on a specific platform or looks lifeless and dull.

This makes it crucial to understand video file formats, especially if you often upload videos to social media.

With this article, I’ll provide you with all the information you need to choose the perfect format for your next video confidently.

(If you’re more interested in images, check our guide to common image file formats .)

So, let’s get started.

Table of Contents

14 Video Formats You Need to Know

Video file format and codec basics.

When it comes to videos, there are two important factors: file format and codec.

They are responsible for how a video is stored, compressed, decoded and viewed.

Let’s dive deeper into what these terms mean and how they impact your videos.

What Is a Video File Format?

A video file format is a specific way of storing and organizing video data on your computer and other digital devices.

The file format is like a blueprint that determines how the video information is structured within the file.

A format also includes details about the resolution, audio data, and other elements such as subtitles etc.

In simple words, a video format specifies how video data should be organized so that devices and software can understand and play it correctly.

Different video formats serve different purposes. Some are designed for high-quality playback, while others prioritize smaller file sizes for easier sharing online.

It’s important to choose the right format for your specific needs, whether you’re uploading videos to social media, creating YouTube content, or archiving family memories.

What Is a Codec?

The term “codec” is short for “compressor/decompressor,” which can be in the form of software or hardware.

Codecs work behind the scenes in all types of video-related tasks, whether you’re recording, editing, or saving videos.

They are responsible for encoding and decoding of video data.

For example, a codec formats and compresses your data in a specific way when you are saving a video, and when you play a video, a codec decompresses and reads video data in the backend.

A video file can be seen as a large and complex jigsaw puzzle. This puzzle contains pieces related to images, audio, video, and metadata, among others.

Video data consists of information about frames, audio, metadata, subtitles, and many other things.

Such data needs to be organized effectively so that it can be saved in a file and available to play on demand. That’s where codecs come into play.

They specialize in reducing the size of video files by cleverly compressing the data.

This compression involves techniques like merging similar data, simplifying color information, and adjusting the resolution.

As a result, the file size becomes smaller, which is important for storage and sharing online.

However, there’s an important distinction between codecs: they can be either “lossy” or “lossless” in their compression methods.

  • Lossy Codecs: These codecs achieve compression by removing some data from the video.

The encoding process of such a codec can lead to a slight to significant reduction in video quality, depending on the level of compression.

  • Lossless Codecs: On the other hand, lossless codecs preserve all the original data from the video, ensuring minimal quality loss.

However, preserving the video data comes at a cost- it makes the file size heavier.

Here are some popular video codecs in 2024:

  • 264(AVC ) : This is one of the most popular codecs in current times as it offers very good compression yet maintains a good quality of video. It’s often used by video streaming services and online sharing.
  • 265 (HEVC) : This codec is an upgraded version of the above codec. It offers better compression and higher-quality video; however, it requires a more powerful device to run smoothly. It’s often used for 4k and 8k video content.
  • VP9 : It’s an open-source codec designed by Google. It’s created especially for web videos where high compression is often useful to keep the file size low. It’s widely used on platforms like YouTube.
  • MPEG-2: This is an old codec that is still used for encoding videos for DVDs, cable TV, and broadcasting. However, with time, it is being used less and less.
  • MPEG-4 : This is a versatile codec used for various purposes, such as web streaming, video conferencing, and smartphone videos.

Now that we’ve understood what is a file format and how a codec works, let’s dig deeper into some of the common video formats.

Most Common Video File Formats Used in 2024

When it comes to video formats, each comes with its own set of pros and cons.

Understanding them in detail would help you make the right choice for your next video project.

So, let’s take a deeper look into some of the most used video file formats in 2024.

How Do I Choose the Right Video Format?

Choosing the right video format can be quite challenging, especially when you’re new to videography.

However, the choice would depend on the purpose of your video and where you’ll share it.

Here are some things to keep in mind when choosing the right format:

Consider File Size:

Keep in mind that file size matters. Some formats, like MOV, can be quite large, while others, like MP4, are more lightweight. Choose based on your storage and bandwidth needs.

Think About Compatibility:

Consider where your video will be played. If it’s for a specific platform, check their recommended formats. For broad compatibility, choose formats like MP4.

Quality vs. File Size:

Balance quality with file size. High-quality formats like ProRes offer excellent video and audio but come with larger file sizes. Select what suits your requirements better.

Check Your Editing Software:

Ensure your video editing software supports your chosen format. Some programs work better with specific formats.

For example, ProRes videos work better with Final Cut Pro.

Think About Future-Proofing:

If you want your videos to remain accessible for years, consider open-source formats like MP4 and MKV, which are less likely to become outdated.

Below are some of the video format recommendations for specific purposes:

  • For Online Videos: MP4 and WEBM formats are ideal for online sharing. They load quickly and play smoothly on websites, social media, and platforms like YouTube.
  • For Home Videos: If you’re creating home videos and want them to last, MP4 and AVI formats strike a good balance between quality and compatibility.
  • For Windows: If you’re working with Windows-based applications, WMV is a reliable choice. It’s compatible with many Windows programs and other devices.
  • For Professional Video Editing: Professional video editors often prefer MOV and ProRes for their high quality and flexibility. They maintain top-notch video and audio in projects.
  • For Multi-Media Projects: If you’re working on projects with various audio tracks, subtitles, and high-quality video, MKV would be the right choice for you.

There’s no one-size-fits-all video format. The right one for your needs would depend on where you want to use your video and its purpose.

So, consider the above-mentioned pointers while choosing the format for your videos.

MP4 vs. MKV: Which One Should You Choose?

When choosing between MP4 and MKV, you should keep in mind that both formats have their pros and cons.

Let’s discuss some of the advantages of both.

  • Simplicity: If you want a format that works on almost any device or platform without installing extra software, MP4 is the best option for your needs.
  • Streaming-Friendly: MP4 is excellent for online streaming as well. The high compression and smaller size make it load quickly, making it ideal for YouTube and other social media sites.
  • Everyday Use: If you’re shooting videos with your smartphone or digital camera and want a format that’s easy to work with, MP4 is a solid choice.
  • Versatility: MKV can handle multiple audio tracks, subtitles, and various video streams, making it a good choice for videos with additional data.
  • High Quality: If you’re focused on maintaining the highest video and audio quality, MKV is the format for you.
  • Comprehensive: When storage space isn’t a concern, and you want all the features, such as multiple languages and high-quality video, MKV would be the right format for you.

If you want an easy-to-work-with and widely compatible format for everyday use and online sharing, go with MP4.

However, if you work on videos with multi-audio tracks, other media files, and the extra features, MKV is the right choice.

The choice ultimately depends on your project’s demands and where you plan to showcase your videos.

High Resolution vs Low Resolution: What’s the Difference?

A high-resolution file has a huge amount of image & video data which makes it more realistic.

It allows for better video editing as well as renders at a high quality when being played.

However, the size of a high-resolution video file is much larger than the lower resolution file.

On the other hand, a low-resolution image or video is one that doesn’t have complete image data and renders dull and lacking sharpness.

Low-resolution files are very easy to share as they are smaller in size compared to high-resolution files.

Which Video File Formats are Supported on Social Media?

When it comes to sharing videos on social media, it’s important to know which video file formats are supported.

Different platforms have their preferences, and using the right format ensures your videos display correctly.

Here’s a handy list of the video file formats supported by some popular social media platforms:

What’s the Best Way to Change from One Video File Format to Another?

One of the popular platforms is online-convert, a free service to convert your video files into different formats.

3. Video Editing Software:

For those familiar with advanced video editing tools, using video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro is a great option.

Import your video, edit it as needed, and then export it in your desired format.

Premiere Pro provides extensive customization options, making it a preferred choice for professional video editors.

4. Online Video Platforms:

YouTube, the giant of online video, also doubles as a format converter.

Biden's message to Iran about retaliatory strike on Israel: 'Don't'

At the same time, he said he expects an Iranian attack "sooner than later."

President Joe Biden told reporters Friday afternoon he expects an Iranian strike on Israel to occur "sooner than later" amid urgent concerns that Iran was about to retaliate for the bombing of its consulate in Damascus, Syria, earlier this month.

Asked for his message to Iran in the tense moment, Biden was blunt, saying simply, "Don't."

"Would the U.S. respond?" ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Mary Bruce asked repeatedly as the president walked away after the end of an unrelated event. He paused, thought for a moment and then returned to the lectern.

"We are devoted to the defense of Israel. We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed," he said.

MORE: Israel-Gaza live updates: Iran readies 100 cruise missiles for possible Israel strike, US says

Biden's comments come as other high-level U.S. officials worked urgently behind the scenes to pressure Iran to back down from its threat to launch a retaliatory strike -- the latest challenge facing the Biden administration as it tries to avert an all-out regional war in the Middle East.

At the same time, the U.S. was moving troops and other assets to the Middle East as Iran readied a large number of missiles and drones for a potential strike against Israel, according to U.S. officials.

The deployment of American troops was intended to try to deter Iran from launching a large-scale attack and protecting U.S. troops in the region

According to one U.S. defense official, the assets being moved to the region include both "ships and aircraft."

Two U.S. Navy destroyers already deployed in the eastern Mediterranean are equipped with the Aegis combat system, which can protect troops in the region from ballistic defense missiles.

Two U.S. officials said that Iran has readied more than a hundred cruise missiles for a possible strike.

Some 3,400 US troops are in Iraq and Syria with tens of thousands more U.S. personnel in the Middle East region.

Late Friday, as he boarded Air Force One, when asked if he was concerned about Iran killing Americans, Biden told reporters "I’m always afraid of that."

Earlier Friday, White House national security spokesman John Kirby said the administration was monitoring the situation "very, very closely," and that while its top priority was ensuring Israel is able to defend itself from a potential Iranian attack, the U.S was also "doing everything we can to protect our people and our facilities."

"It would be imprudent if we didn't take a look at our own posture in the region, to make sure that we're properly prepared as well," he said.

In a sign of how seriously the U.S. views the risk of escalation, the Pentagon confirmed on Thursday that Gen. Michael "Erik" Kurilla, the commander of U.S. Central Command, had "moved up" a previously scheduled trip to Israel to meet with senior Israeli military leaders "due to recent developments."

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also spoke by phone with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Thursday afternoon "to discuss the current situation in the Middle East and to reaffirm the U.S.'s ironclad commitment to Israel's security against threats from Iran and its proxies," according to Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, the Pentagon's press secretary.

Although the U.S. does not have direct diplomatic ties to Iran, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that Secretary of State Antony Blinken had been working the phones with his counterparts in countries that do -- encouraging them to use their influence to dissuade Iran from taking military action in response to the consulate bombing.

In his conversations with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, Blinken made clear "that escalation is not in anyone's interest and that countries should urge Iran not to escalate," according to Miller.

U.S. officials previously told ABC News that the administration believes Iran could retaliate against Israel in the coming days -- potentially using drones and missiles to attack "regional assets" -- and that information about the threat has been shared with lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

At a White House news conference on Wednesday, President Biden said Iran was "threatening to launch a significant attack on Israel" and that he had assured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. commitment to his country's security was "ironclad."

"We're going to do all we can to protect Israel's security," he said.

While officials say they still believe Iran may could change course, the State Department announced it had placed new restrictions on U.S. personnel in Israel on Thursday, prohibiting employees and their family members from undertaking personal travel outside of the greater Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Be'er Sheva areas until further notice.

According to a travel alert from the department, the limits were imposed "out of an abundance of caution." Miller declined to speak to any specific security assessments that motivated the change in policy but acknowledged Iran's vow for revenge.

"Clearly we are monitoring the threat environment in the Middle East and specifically in Israel, and that's what led us to give that warning to our employees and their family members and to make it public so all U.S. citizens who either live in Israel or traveling there are aware of it," he said.

The renewed concern over a widening conflict in the Middle East was sparked by a strike on an Iranian facility in Syria that Tehran says was carried out by Israel and killed 12 people, including Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior leader in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Although Israel has attacked a number of targets linked to Iran in recent years, primarily as part of its efforts to disrupt arms transfers to Hezbollah and other proxy groups in the region, the Israeli military has not taken credit for the incident in Damascus, which occurred on April 1.
