Betydning for klassementet

BECOME A PART OF THE LEGEND

Live the legend of the Tour de France, riding on the same routes and under the same conditions as the professionals: this is the promise that L’Étape du Tour has kept since 1993.

Every year, we invite you to ride one of the mountain stages of the Tour de France: the same stage towns, the same routes, the same mythical climbs but also, and above all, the same race conditions as on the Tour. As the result of a significant amount of work carried out in partnership with the police, local organisations and local authorities, L’Étape du Tour de France is the only cyclosportive to offer routes which are entirely closed to traffic.

With the experience of 31 editions and a pack of 16,000 registered competitors, L’Étape du Tour is now Europe’s benchmark cyclosportive event.

A SPORTING CHALLENGE, A TOURIST ADVENTURE

L’Étape du Tour is, obviously, an immense sporting challenge. But it is also a tourist adventure which will enable you to discover some of the most beautiful parts of France. From Alpine valleys to the Tourmalet, the giant of the Pyrenees, every year the regions which host the event offer breathtaking scenery.

And because the love of cycling knows no borders, and because the Tour itself is a giant, L’Étape du Tour has given rise to several other races around the world, offering you even more stunning landscapes in the same race conditions as the Tour de France.

  • The event takes place in perfect harmony with the region. For example, many competitors were accommondated locally.
  • The Saint Anastaise hill proved too much for the main body of riders - many had to put their feet to the ground to proceed.
  • A sumptuous finish in Superbesse after a tight bend. This last climb was special given that the road was split in two by miles of barriers.
  • Patrick François, jersey no 64 « At 48, if you want to stay with the best of them, you've got to watch your preparation. No more restaurants for me! I can't wait to join my pals and have a drink together. There's cycling and there's cycling… » -
  • Bruno Alquinet, jersey no 499 « This year's stage was more within reach of most competitors - nice scenery, very well organized, no cars coming the other way… »
  • Alain Hamann, jersey no 321 « Tough finish. This morning was like going to a school exam. I reckon I just scraped a pass. Full marks for the organization. Now school's over. »
  • Pierre Tronc, jersey no 140 « Not as tough as last year but still no easy matter. The Saint Anastaise hill, oh! la la! »
  • Jacqueline Peyrard, jersey no 2709 « I know the area - I'm from round here. I'm glad I made it to the finish. It was great. Now I've got to ride home 50km away. My husband was supposed to come and fetch me, but he's in a meeting. »

Tour de France 2022 - Stage 4 preview

July 5, 2022: Dunkerque to Calais, 172km

Stage 4:  Dunkerque to Calais

Date : July 5, 2022

Distance : 172km

Stage timing : 13:15 - 17:15 CEST

Stage type:  Hilly

After a rest day and a transfer to Northern France , the Tour de France is back in its home country for stage 4. Though starting and finishing on the North Sea coast, the stage from Dunkerque to Calais mainly takes place inland. Six classified climbs will give the breakaway something to fight for and could see the polka-dot jersey change hands at the end of the day. The stage begins and ends at sea level but is characterised by barely any flat terrain at all, beyond the first 30km and final 10km. The peloton heads south from Dunkirk inland and there is an air of the spring classics about the first part of the route as it takes place in French Flanders. The first climb, the Côte de Cassel, is cobbled; the other climbs are on asphalt roads. It comes after just 30km and if the breakaway is not settled by this point, it could provide the ideal launching pad for any rider with an eye on escaping the bunch.

From there, the route turns west. There is an intermediate sprint at 63.2km which offers points for the green jersey contenders, as the race heads into an undulating section featuring four category four climbs within the space of just over 50km. The toughest of these is the Côte de Nielles-lès-Bléquin - 1.1km of climbing at an average gradient of 7%.

If raced at a high pace, this series of climbs in quick succession could see some of the pure sprinters dropped in favour of the punchier, classics-style sprinters - think Wout van Aert (Team Jumbo-Visma), Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix), Peter Sagan (Team Total Energies) and Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo).

With 24km to go, the race reaches the uncategorised Côte d’Opale on the Channel coast. The Côte de Cap Blanc-Nez is the final difficulty on the way to Calais, cresting with 10.8km to go. This might be enough time for the bunch to come back together before the finish line, given the final 10km is basically flat, but the prevailing southwesterly winds would mean a tailwind to the finish which might help the breakaway.

Another possibility is a slight change in wind direction which could bring tail-crosswinds that would wreak havoc in the peloton and create gaps among the GC contenders, whose teams will need to fight to keep their leaders in contention. Despite all that, another big sprint is the most likely outcome.

The contenders for the stage, should it go to a sprint finish, will be the same riders who have contested the last two stages. Fabio Jakobsen (QuickStep-AlphaVinyl) and Dylan Groenewegen (Team BikeExchange-Jayco) have won a sprint apiece, with Wout van Aert second on both occasions. Peter Sagan has been in the mix too, looking back to his belligerent best.

Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal) has been missing from the action in the final few hundred metres for the past two days and will be looking to rectify that, as will Mads Pedersen. The Dane failed to make an impact on home soil and will be in the hunt, along with Alpecin-Fenix' Jasper Philipsen who also left Denmark empty-handed.

Alberto Dainese (Team DSM), Danny van Poppel (Bora-Hansgrohe), Hugo Hofstetter (Arkea-Samsic), Alexander Kristoff (Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert) and Max Walscheid (Cofidis) all represent decent outside chances, and could cause an upset for the favourites, should the probably bunch sprint materialise.

THE TOUR DE FRANCE IN DENMARK: THE YELLOW FEVER

The northernmost Grand Départ of the Tour de France led to a popular craze that exceeded all expectations. From the teams’ presentation in the heart of Copenhagen to the finish of stage 3 in Sonderborg, the riders were treated to a noisy, warm and respectful honor hedge of more than 400 kilometers. The Danish television channel TV2 recorded an average market share of 78% during the first three stages. Never seen before!

02/07/2022 - Tour de France 2022 - Etape 2 - Roskilde / Nyborg (202,2km) -

The tears of Jonas Vingegaard, touched by the welcome he received in the Tivoli theme park, are already part of the iconography of the 2022 Tour de France. Spectators who did not have the privilege of being among the 15,000 present for the teams’ presentation then flocked to the sidewalks of Copenhagen, defying the rain that watered the time trial in the heart of the capital on Friday afternoon. They were even more numerous to witness the conquest of the polka-dot jersey by Magnus Cort between Roskilde and Nyborg, then to greet their new national hero, who escaped alone towards Sonderborg. About two million Danes travelled to watch the race during this unprecedented sequence, out of a total population of around six million. But what did the Danes who didn’t attend the Tour de France between 1st and 3rd July do? The figures published by the national channel TV2 indicate that they have largely followed the stages of the Tour in front of their screens, since the market shares reached up to 86% of the people who turned on their television. A peak of 1,100,000 viewers was even recorded for the finish in Sonderborg, just before Dylan Groenewegen’s sprint victory. A way to greet the peloton massively before flying to the French territory.

Frederik Lauesen, Head of Sports at TV2 Denmark:

“It has been a fairytale for us at TV2 Denmark to experience and to cover the Tour de France’s visit in Denmark. We know that the Danish people love the tour, but the incredible interest from the team presentation in Tivoli Gardens to the stages in our country has after all surprised us in a very positive way. The Danish people have shown their love for the Tour in a way, we would never dream of. The images of the streets and roads full of enthusiastic crowds literally all the way from start to finish will remain with us forever. This was a once in a lifetime experience in many ways and we are equally proud and humble at TV 2 to have played our part in this. We will forever be thankful to the Tour de France and the passionate people who worked hard to make this happen”

“The viewing figures are extremely high, and we are very pleased. It is safe to say that a great number of the Danish people has taken part in this fantastic event and enjoyed the visit of the world greatest cycling race either along the streets or on our platforms.”

Julien Goupil, Head of medias and partnerships at A.S.O.:

“It was absolutely fantastic to see such a big Danish crowd. The audiences of TV2, historical partner of the Tour (since 1989) are absolutely exceptional and confirm our desire to make the Tour de France accessible to as many people as possible by broadcasting it on free-to-air generalist channels in Europe thanks to the partnership established with Eurovision Sport. These impressive results in terms of audience concern both the broadcast of the live feed of the first three stages and the traffic on TV2’s digital platforms, which has quadrupled. More than ever, the race has attracted crowds, either on the roadsides or in front   of TV. A market share of 78% on average… Never seen before!”

Key numbers:

- During the first three days of the Tour de France, TV2/TV2 PLAY has been in contact with 2,362,000 Danes across stages and studio broadcasts. That’s almost a doubling compared to the interest we saw for the Tour’s first three days last year.

- The first three stages are seen by an average of 767,000 Danes (viewer shares from 72 percent to 86 percent) and at the 3rd stage - at the end of the route - the number of viewers peaks with 1,095,000 Danes who follow the final sprint through Sønderborg.

- The stages are the most viewed 1-3. stages ever, and for all Tour stages, we need to look back more than 10 years to find similar levels.

- On TV2.DK & apps, the interest is also overwhelming, with the first three days of the Tour de France content showing a quadrupling of traffic compared to previous years.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!
