How to Tour the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank

Have you ever dreamed of getting to tour the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank? This is one of the hardest studios in Los Angeles to get to see. There are only three studios that offer tours that anyone can buy tickets for. Those studios are Paramount , Sony and Warner Bros . The main ways that you can tour the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank are through D23 Events, Disney Movie Insider Rewards, and Adventures By Disney.

What is D23? It is The Official Disney Fan Club! Earlier this year I attended the D23 Expo which I highly recommend. You can be a general member for free or a gold member for a price. For $99.99 a year, plus shipping and taxes, you can join the club. There will be a few free member events throughout the year but most activities require you to spend more money to attend. However, if you really want to tour the studio you’ll most likely find the price tag worth the investment.

At least two times a year club members can purchase tickets to tour the studio. This tour always sells out though so you do have to pay close attention to when it goes on sale. The best way to stay informed is to check the D23 events page on their website often. The pricing starts at $99 and goes up from there. Pricing is more for general members (the free membership), and it is more expensive for weekend tours as well. You can find tickets and available tour times through the D23 event page when availability permits.

What does this tour entail? According to the D23 website, you can expect a 2 and 1/2 hour tour which includes a visit to Walt Disney’s Office and the archives.

Disney Movie Insiders Rewards Program

Did you know that you can earn points for watching Disney movies in theatres and by purchasing Disney Movies on DVD and BluRay? Once you create an account with Disney Movie Insider Rewards and start earning points you can redeem them for great rewards. One of the rewards is to tour the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. This reward costs 12,000 points so it will take a while to earn enough.

Adventures By Disney is a way to travel while having Disney take care of everything. There is a four-day tour of Los Angeles. This experience gives you access to the park in a unique way and provides a tour of the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. You even get to tour Imagineering. These trips and experiences with ABD can be very pricey but you certainly get some spectacular experiences. You can see pricing and details here .

D23 is bringing back a long-time favorite tour for members, that being the Official Walt Disney Studios Tour!

What’s Happening:

• D23 Members have the rare opportunity to enjoy a two-and-a-half-hour tour of The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA.
• This exclusive experience includes a visit to Walt Disney’s office suite, Legends Plaza, and the Walt Disney Archives.
• Additionally on weekend tours, an Archivist from the Walt Disney Archives will join the tour and share the rich history of this amazing department.
• Join your D23 tour guide on a stroll through the original Animation building, where beloved animated films, including Cinderella , Lady and the Tramp , and The Jungle Book , were created; see the historic soundstages used for filming such Disney live-action movie classics as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea , Mary Poppins , Pirates of the Caribbean : The Curse of the Black Pearl , and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ; plus explore the beautiful Legends Plaza, which honors those who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy.
• Many guests will also recognize the exterior spaces on the lot, which have been featured in productions from the Mickey Mouse Club  and The Absent-Minded Professor  to Saving Mr. Banks , Muppets Most Wanted , and ABC ’s black-ish !
• Then, explore the rich legacy and historical collections of The Walt Disney Company during a tour of the Walt Disney Archives. To complete this epic experience, take a tour of Walt Disney’s restored 3H office suite, filled with original furnishings, awards, and items from the master showman’s personal collection. Upon exiting the suite, all guests will receive an exclusive gift to commemorate this memorable experience.
• All guests will also have the opportunity to shop at the Disney Studio Store and Employee Center and purchase items only available on the Studio lot!
• Pricing for D23 Gold Members is $99 for weekday tours or $109 for weekend tours per person, plus a $7 per person processing fee.
• For General Members, pricing is $149 for weekday tours and $159 for weekend tours per person, plus a $7 per person processing fee.
• Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, August 2nd, at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET).
• All guests will be required to wear face masks upon entering the Walt Disney Studio Lot and for the entire duration of the tour.
• Additionally, all guests will need to provide proof of either confirmation that you have been fully vaccinated or a negative PCR test for COVID-19.

• Tours will take place at The Walt Disney Studios at 1 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Check-in will begin outside the Hyperion Bungalow at The Walt Disney Studios 30 minutes before your tour.
• August 12, August 19, August 26, September 2, September 16, September 23, October 7, October 14, October 21, October 28
• Tours will take place at The Walt Disney Studios at 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m., and 10:30 a.m. Check-in will begin outside the Hyperion Bungalow at The Walt Disney Studios 30 minutes before your tour.
• August 20, October 22, November 5
• Tours will take place at The Walt Disney Studios at 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Check-in will begin outside the Hyperion Bungalow at The Walt Disney Studios 30 minutes before your tour.

Walt Disney Studios Tour Takes D23 Members Inside Walt’s Office

Recently, we shared about a tour at Disneyland that takes Guests inside Walt’s apartment. Today, let’s talk about the Walt Disney Studios Tour that takes D23 Members inside Walt’ s office!

D23 Membership

Did you know that D23 has three membership plans, and one is free? That’s right, the General Plan offers complimentary membership that includes, a newsletter, access to general events, and sweepstakes, all at no cost. 

Walt Disney Studios Tour

Today, D23 shared about the official Walt Disney Studios Tour on its website. The two-and-a-half-hour trek takes members through different areas of The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.

Guests can celebrate the return of this amazing offering from November 3 through December 16!

Walt was able to purchase his Burbank lot after the success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs . The tour takes members through Disney’s history, allowing them to walk along the same streets Walt walked. 

Guests also get to stand on actual sets from films like Saving Mr. Banks  and  Muppets Most Wanted. It starts with a walk through the Animation building, where classic films like Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp were created.

Members can browse through pictures of sketches and original artwork while learning about the techniques used by animators. But, the standout of the tour has to be the trip to Walt’s office!

Inside Walt’s Office

The Walt Disney Archives restored the office, placing everything back exactly the way it was in Walt’s day. Walt used to hold meetings with legendary artists here, such as the Sherman brothers who would often surprise him with a serenade.

After visiting the suite, D23 members are treated to an exclusive gift to remember their experience. The tour finishes in the Legends Plaza, which honors people who have contributed to the Disney legacy. 

I don’t know about you, but I would love to take a trip back in time and experience something like this. There’s no doubt that the highlight of the Walt Disney Studios Tour would be a trip inside Walt Disney’s iconic office!

DATE Announced For Return of the Exclusive Walt Disney Studios Lot Tour!

A very special Disney tour is finally returning!

It’s back!

Disney offers many types of VIP tours throughout their parks. Some of them returned in late 2021 and others returned earlier this year . And now, another popular tour is finally returning — The Walt Disney Studios Official Tour!

D23 has just announced that their wildly popular Walt Disney Studios Official Tour is finally returning from August 11th,2022 through November 5th, 2022 for D23 Gold and General members. We knew the tour would be returning this year, but Disney hadn’t announced an exact date…until now !

The tour will cost $99 on weekdays and $109 on weekends for Gold members and $149 on weekdays and $159 on weekends for General members . Tickets will go on sale on August 2nd at 10AM PST (1PM EST).

The tour lasts 2.5 hours and guests will be able to see sights such as Walt Disney’s office suite, Legends Plaza, and the Walt Disney Archives . On weekends, a Disney Archivist will join the tour to offer additional commentary.

awe shucks… from the headline, I was hoping there was a return to the back lot tour that used to take place at the Florida Studio’s lot. The action of the Catastrophe Canyon sequence was one to remember, and I am so upset that the next generation will not be able to enjoy this groundbreaking attraction. So much was lost when the Fl. Studios became a thrill park instead of a working studio.

The Walt Disney Studios Official Tour takes place between February 6 through March 31.

The tour takes place at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.

The tour is presented by D23 – kicking off Disney’s 100 celebration.

The tour costs $149 for weekday general admission and $159 for weekend tours – plus a $7 per person processing fee.

D23 Gold members can purchase weekday tour tickets for $99 and weekend tickets for $109 – plus the $7 per person processing fee.

The tour includes a visit to Walt Disney’s restored office suite, the Walt Disney Archives and Legends Plaza during the 2.5 hour long tour.

Weekend tours also get to see a peek at the Animator’s office exhibit – however it is only on Saturdays and for D23 members.

The tour gives Disney fans a glimpse at historic soundstages as well as how classic Disney films were made and more.

There is a Disney Studio Store and Employee Center gift shop with items only available in the Studios lot.

The Official Walt Disney Studios Tour Available For D23 Gold Members

On Saturday September 9th, D23 Gold Members (and Gold Family Members) have the rare opportunity to enjoy a two-and-a-half-hour tour of The Walt Disney Studios. This exclusive experience also includes a visit to Walt Disney’s office suite and Archives.

Join your D23 tour guide on a stroll through the original Animation building, where beloved animated films (including Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, and The Jungle Book) were created; see the historic sound stages used for filming such Disney live-action movie classics as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Mary Poppins, and Pirates of the Caribbean : The Curse of the Black Pearl; plus explore the beautiful Disney Legends Plaza, which honors those who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy. Many guests will also recognize the exterior spaces on the lot, which have been featured in productions from the Mickey Mouse Club and The Absent-Minded Professor to Saving Mr. Banks, Muppets Most Wanted, and ABC’s black-ish!

Then, explore the rich legacy and historical collections of The Walt Disney Company during a tour of the Walt Disney Archives and Walt Disney’s restored 3H office suite, filled with original furnishings, awards, and items from the master showman’s personal collection. Upon exiting the suite, all guests will receive an exclusive pin to commemorate this memorable experience.

Guests will also have the opportunity to shop at the Disney Studio Store and purchase items only available on the Studio lot!

DETAILS Tours will take place at the Walt Disney Studios at 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. Check-in will begin outside the Hyperion Bungalow at The Walt Disney Studios 30 minutes before your tour.

With the Disney 100 Years of Wonder celebration kicking off in 2023, D23 is gearing up for a momentous year with tons of offerings including fan favorites and special commemorative events.

D23 2023 Event Highlights:

Destination d23.

D23 returns to The Most Magical Place on Earth for the biggest Disney fan event of 2023 at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, September 8–10, to celebrate 100 years of The Walt Disney Company. Fans will be among the first to hear exciting announcements and see sneak peeks from the many worlds of Disney—and relive favorite memories with behind-the-scenes stories, special guests, and so much more at this epic event.

THE WALT DISNEY STUDIOS OFFICIAL TOUR – PRESENTED BY D23

D23 welcomes guests to The Walt Disney Studios Lot, giving members the opportunity to visit the world-famous studio in Burbank, California. These tours offer fans a unique perspective on historic moments from Disney films, television series, and theme parks—along with the chance to look inside the Walt Disney Archives and draw inspiration from Walt Disney’s office suite.

FAN-FAVORITE MILESTONE ANNIVERSARIES

D23 will celebrate several milestone anniversaries with in-person events in 2023 for fan-favorite films, including  Finding Nemo  (20th),  Mulan  (25th), and  Who Framed Roger Rabbit  (35th). D23 is excited to celebrate these iconic films with extra-special experiences and even more magic for D23 Members. And Halloween will return in phantom fashion, celebrating the anniversaries of monstrously major movies including  Hocus Pocus  (30th) , Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas  (30th) ,  and  Halloweentown  (25th).

WALT’S MARCELINE

Walt Disney frequently cited this charming Missouri town where he spent his early childhood as one of his greatest influences. Its lovely main thoroughfare was an inspiration for Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A. D23 Members will have a chance to return in June 2023 for a very special hometown event.

D23 NIGHTS WITH DISNEY THEATRICAL

D23 and the North American tours of Disney’s The Lion King  and Disney’s  Frozen  are excited to offer D23 Members exclusive theatrical experiences, including special ticket packages and post-show Q&As with cast members. D23 will kick off these dazzling theatrical events in Los Angeles with  The Lion King  and in Costa Mesa, California, with  Frozen , and offer an exclusive experience with the cast during the highly anticipated opening of Disney’s  Hercules  at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey.

SIGNATURE EVENTS :

Fans can look forward to D23 Gold Member previews of Walt Disney Archives traveling exhibitions across the country. D23 Gold Members will enjoy advance and opening night screenings of new Disney films at locations across the country. Walt Disney Imagineering’s exclusive merchandise store, Mickey’s of Glendale, will open its doors to members with both online and in-person opportunities. Look out for the return of the holiday favorite  Light Up the Season  in December 2023 as part of a very merry D23 Holiday Celebration!

Inspiring Walt Disney: The Animation of French Decorative Arts

Pink castles, talking sofas, and objects coming to life: what sounds like fantasies from the pioneering animation of Walt Disney Animation Studios were in fact the figments of the colorful salons of Rococo Paris. The Met’s first-ever exhibition exploring the work of Walt Disney and the hand-drawn animation of Walt Disney Animation Studios will examine Disney’s personal fascination with European art and the use of French motifs in his films and theme parks, drawing new parallels between the studios’ magical creations and their artistic models.

Sixty works of 18th-century European decorative arts and design—from tapestries and furniture to Boulle clocks and Sèvres porcelain—will be featured alongside 150 production artworks and works on paper from the Walt Disney Animation Research Library, Walt Disney Archives, Walt Disney Imagineering Collection, and The Walt Disney Family Museum. Selected film footage illustrating the extraordinary technological and artistic developments of the studio during Disney’s lifetime and beyond will also be shown.

The exhibition will highlight references to European visual culture in Disney animated films, including nods to Gothic Revival architecture in Cinderella (1950), medieval influences on Sleeping Beauty (1959), and Rococo-inspired objects brought to life in Beauty and the Beast (1991). The exhibition also marks the 30th anniversary of the animated theatrical release of  Beauty and the Beast .

About the Speakers

Searit Huluf

Searit Huluf was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She studied at UCLA’s School of Theater, Film, and Television, concentrating on screenwriting and animation. After graduating, Huluf moved to the Bay Area and began working in Production Management at Pixar Animation Studios.

Since her time at Pixar, Searit has worked as a Production Coordinator on Incredibles 2 (2018) and Turning Red (2021), as well as some of Pixar’s SparkShorts films. She has also directed numerous short narrative and documentary films, such as GAMERS (2019), Exploring Blackness (2020), 19th Amendment Doc (2020), and buna (2023). She most recently directed Pixar’s SparkShort Self (2024), now streaming on Disney+.

During her spare time, Huluf brews a variety of coffee drinks using multiple espresso machines. She currently resides in Oakland, California.

Eric Rosales

Eric Rosales joined Pixar Animation Studios in February 2004 as a rendering coordinator on The Incredibles (2004). Since then, Rosales has worked as a manager in various departments—including sets, lighting, art, and effects—on feature films including Coco (2017), Toy Story 4 (2019), and Lightyear (2021). Most recently, Rosales served as Producer on the Pixar SparkShort Self (2024), now streaming on Disney+. 

Prior to Pixar, Rosales worked as an American Red Cross representative and was an assistant at FCB Advertising. He then went on to work in freelance live-action film production, and also worked as an archivist at Tech TV and an editor at Multivision Media Tracker. 

Rosales grew up in the San Fernando Valley and attended University of California, Santa Cruz. He currently resides in Pleasant Hill, California.
