Jhargram Rajbari
Jhargram is a picturesque town in West Bengal surrounded by Belpahari hills and rivers like Subarnarekha and Kangshabati. Jhargram Rajbari is a central attraction of the place for tourists.
It has a rich cultural and historical heritage dating back to the Mughal dynasty and even further back. The undiluted form of some of the oldest tribal traditions and customs co-exists here with the major communities.
The place also boost of its lush greenery and thick canopy of Sal, Teak and Mahua. Jhargram Rajbari is part of that rich historical heritage. It is still the current resident of the Malla Dev Royal Family.
The rulers of the land date back to late Mughal period in the sixteenth century. This Rajbari gives you a chance to view the gothic architecture, which is a combination of Italian and Islamic styles. You will also enjoy the carefully laid gardens and vast lawns.

The property arranges local guides for truly rustic experiences in the villages of Belpahari and Gopiballavpur, to walk and relax in the mud huts, to soak in the ambiance, discover and interact with the local people to know the vibrant rural Bengal on the banks of the rivers like the famous Subarnarekha and Kansai.
Trekking through the forests of Belpahari to Gurrasini Hill along with Khandarini Lake with Ketki Falls can offer a breath-taking view. This place is an abode for migratory birds.
Bird and wildlife watching:
In the early morning around sunrise, 10 km away from the property, JhilliPakhiralaya is the perfect place for birding, especially for migratory birds. You can avail paddle boats and get close to the flocks which include pintail, various kingfishers, moorhen, lapwings, pygmy-goose, gadwalls etc.
In Kendua, you can find various Orioles and Egrets birds which are rare in cities. Khandarani Lake is a habitat for the bird of prey like shikras, along with purple heron and little grebe, while in Dalma is famous for elephants, bears, boars and porcupines.
Tribal and Raibenshe Dance:
You will get a chance to observe the performance by the Santhals of Jhargram. They are skilled dancers and singers. You will enjoy their vibrant costume, jewelry alone with indigenous musical instruments. Raibenshe is another of Indian folk martial dance performed by men only.
This dance form involves acrobatic movements, using a Raibansh (a long bamboo stick)The Bagdi community perform this dance wearing a brass anklet. Both of these dance forms are cultural heritage here.

Sabitri mata temple:.
Visit the ancestral deity of the Malla Dev Dynasty of Jhargram in this temple. She is worshiped in the form Durga, by the royal family.
A valley, 35 km from Jhargram. The 35 km road towards the valley is covered with Sal, Mahua, Teak and Eucalyptus forests, and the rocky roads will lead you to occasional waterfalls like the one in Ghagra.
Mayuri Jharna:
The only elephant reserve in eastern India, on the border of West Bengal and Jharkhand, about 70 km from Jhargram, which has more than 110 elephants as per the latest counting.
Chilkigarh Sacred grove:
A biodiversity heritage site in West Bengal. A traditionally protected forest maintained in the social and religious ground in Jamboni, 15 km from Jhargram, occupying 60 acres of land, with the historically eminent temple of Kanak Durga, the ancestral deity of Royal family of Jamboni, and largest sacred grove in West Bengal.
Jhargram Eco-tourism center and tribal museum:
2 km outside the property, this complex houses a museum displaying the indigenous tribal culture of the district.
Mughalmari:
100 km away from Jhargram, is the archaeological remains of Mughalmari. The place has the most extensive evidence of early medieval culture in this region. Mughalmari also bears evidence of Chinese pilgrim Hiuen Tsang who visited Bengal in the seventh century.
Visit this ashrama of the mythical Rishi Valmiki, writer of the epic Ramayana. It is said that in this place he got enlightment and became author from dacoit.
Rameshwar Temple:
A temple near Gopiballavpur, whose mythological origin claims that Lord Ramachandra of Ayodhya came and established the Siva linga here.
Mukutmonipur (30 kms) and Ghatshila (65 kms) are some other places which you can club with your Jhargram trip.
Best Time to Visit Jhargram Rajbari:
The best time to visit the place is October to end of February as the temperature remains low and the weather is pleasant. If you want to enjoy the rivers in their full glory, as well as the green forests, the monsoon is great. But avoid heavy rain as the way to Belpahari and its falls is not completely commutable by car. You have to trek a small path under the guidance of local children or young lads which will become unreachable.

Air/Road: The nearest airport is Dumdum (Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport) and major city is Kolkata. From there, the distance is 180 km approximate and it takes 4 hour by car to reach.

The Jhargram Rajbari is an opulent Gothic structure built in 1931 AD, this palace was designed by the Calcutta Improvement Trust during the reign of Raja Narasingha Malla Deb Bahadur. Surrounded with thick Sal jungle, this place itself is very beautiful. Situated at about 170 km from Kolkata, Jhargram is a very luring week end destination for the nature lovers. During Jhargram tour you may visit Chilkigarh Raj Palace, Dulung river, Kanak Durga temple, herbal garden etc. Do not miss the Palace. Jhargram Palace is one of the best maintained heritage properties in West Bengal. The architecture is absolutely stunning and unique. The tourist complex is easy to locate being adjacent to the Palace compound. There are several cottages and two rooms in each cottage. Each room is well appointed, spacious and neat and clean. Cottages are spread across a pond and is a little walk away from the main building which houses the reception and the dining hall. We look forward to see you with us soon.

Tribal Activities
Jhargram is the store of tribal dances. The Santals, Mundas, Bhumijs, Lodhas and Sabars (aboriginal tribes) co - exist here. They express their social performances, religious rites and rituals through their dances. There are few rare tribal folk-dances: Bhuang, Chang, Chhou, Dangrey, Jhumur, Panta, Ranpa, Saharul, Tusu and Bhadu dances. The folk dances, ancient temples, royal palaces and eco-tourism make Jhargram more attractive places for visitors.
About 2 km away from Jhargram, Chilkigarh bound bus route turning right and moving ahead 11 km is Jambani and further 5 km ahead is Chilkigarh. Royal Palace of Dhalbhum kings is at Chilkigarh after crossing Dulung river. The king participated in the fist mass revolt against the British. There are many deities in the palace premises. It is also famous for its Jangal Mahal Fort and temples. Inside the forest Kanak Durga Temple was built in Pit style. The deity with three eyes , four hands, riding on horseback is made of eight metals. Recently deity was looted by Bhaskar Pandit. The ancient deity of 300 years installed in the temple. It is said that human sacrifices used to be held here. At Navami night goat and buffalo sacrifies are made before Kanak Durga. It is an ideal picnic sport. Accommodation is also available here.
Kankrajhor, 253 km from Kolkata and 73 km from Jhargram, is a trekking wonderland in the tropical, hilly forestlands of Midnapur. 'Kankra' means missing while and 'Jhor' means jungles and forests. Kankrajhor comprises 9,000 hectares of hardwood trees including kusum, shaal, segun or teak, mahua and akashmani. Cashew nuts, coffee and oranges are cultivated at Kankrajhor.
Belpahari, 35 km from Jhargram, is a major tourist destination in Midnapore District. It is a forest paradise under the Dolma Hills, located at a distance of 45 km from Jhargram. Foothills on Belpahari are thickly forested by a variety of tropical trees. Sal, Mahua, Piyal, Sonajhuri, Shirish and Eucalyptus are some of the common hardwood trees.
How to Reach: Jhargram is located around 30 KM away from Belpahari so if visitors travel at the consistant speed of 50 km per hour can reach Belpahari in 0.61 hours. Bus timings from Jhargram to Belpahari is around 0.51 hours when bus maintains an average speed of 60 km per hour. The estimated travel time from Jhargram to Belpahari by bus may vary or it will take more time than the above mentioned time due to the road condition and different travel route. Bus fare from Jhargram to Belpahari may be around Rs.24.
Hatibari, 62 km from Jhargram is situated amidst Forest about 24 km. besides River Subarnarekha is Hatibari. It is surrounded by different types of trees. Few tents are strewn in this place for tourists. It is a beautiful place. From here about 3 km far is Jhilibandh. Sunrise and sunset can be seen from this place.

Chilkigarh Palace
Located a distance of 12 Kms from Jhargram the Chikligarh Palace and the Durga Mandir are worth a visit. It is a historical place. Long wall around the Palace to protect from Borgi. It is the main tributary of the Subarnarekha. It originates in the north-west portion of the division near Dulungdiha (J.L.No. 100, P.S. : Binpur) and runs generally in a southern direction near the western boundary of the division till it enters Jamboni Police Station.
Many migrating birds gather here and staying here for a couple of months, lay their eggs and fly away. It is located between Chilkigarh and Jhargram. It is 9kms away from Jhargram town and situated on the way to Chilkigarh. Migrating birds come here in the month of May, presence of these birds indicate monsoons ahead. By mid November they fly away for once again to return back in Kendua.
Deer Park (Jhargram Mini Zoo)
It is located about 3 kilometers from the city and is ideal for children. There are snakes, bears, black rabbits, bears, crocodiles and various kinds of monkeys and trees. Forest turns the jungle into little Zoo in this area. Different types of wild animals and birds here. Near about 1000 Deers. It is also known as Jhargram Mini Zoo. The display, care and awareness are such level to promote conservation of wildlife. Junglemahal Zoological Park will endeavour to breed the endangered species for display, exchange & rehabilitation in the wild. As such the flora & fauna exist in their natural pristine glory unhindered and unaffected. The Junglemahal Zoological Park will be 'Showcase' of rich biodiversity of Lateritic eco-systems of the State of West Bengal. At present Park has 147 Nos. Mammals, 65 Nos. Birds, 147 Nos. Reptiles. The total area of Park is 21.54 hactre. How To Reach :- it is 3 km. away from Jhargram Rly. Station. It is about 16 km. away from NH-6. There is a good network of road to approach Junglemahal Zoological Park, Jhargram. Nearest Airport is Kolkata which is 160 km away from the zoo.
Eco-Tourism
Today the concept of eco - tourism has benefitted the local economy directly. This is a significant place in the modern day tourism industry. Through the involvement of the local population in the protection and conservation of forests hopes to make it a regional eco-tourism hub for the state. The sites of interest for eco-tourism activities including Ghagra, Khandarani Dam, Khetki Jharna, Jhilli Pakhiralaya, Kakrajhorei. Hatibari eco-huts, Jhargram, Badurvula eco - huts and Kechand Dam at Dhabani.
BARASULI DAM
Nestled in a small village beside an old runway lies Barasuli dam and fishing point. 25 km before one reaches Jhargram and 3 km west of the NH- 6 on the left, this natural reservoir is situated alongside an elephant corridor where one can enjoy a lovely sunset. A fair marking the elephant god is held here every November. Tourists can enjoy fishing and small forest treks.

JHILLI PAKHIRALAY
Jhilli is usually located 10 km on concrete and village road from Kharagpur via Gopiballavpur and 62 km from Jhargram through Hatibari. Just 2 km before reaching Hatibari, one has to turn left and continue 7 km in that direction to reach Jhilli. During winters its home to several variants of migratory birds. These birds flock the banks of Jhilli as it takes up a new look in the evening. Under the moonlit sky, Jhilli appears surreal. There is provision for paddle boating in the lake and when in groups, an evening is a perfect place for a bonfire. The sunset in Jhilli is breathtaking and offers a tremendous spread of the vermillion all over. The best time to visit is during the period of December - February. The lake also attracts migratory birds from Siberia. The greenery surrounding the vast waters of Jhilli is the best place for a nature lover.
