Phenomenal performancer/performance.

We saw him with the Nashville Symphony at the Schermerhorn a couple of years ago. It was so good that we purchased additional tickets for the next night to see him again. His voice was outstanding and his presence was peaceful, humorous, and enjoyable. He sang all his great songs and ones he had written for other people. We are waiting for him to tour again!!

Peter Cetera

Great show and great showman. Seats and venue were superb ... only wish I were a bit closer!

Peter Cetera is one of my all-time favorite singer. He rocks and still hitting those high notes. I'm really glad I watch his concert and something I will treasure forever... Thank you Peter C!

A decent concert

Peter Cetera has a long list of hits and performed them all. His voice is still pretty good. But the acoustics at Saban are poor (we were in the fifth row on the side) and Cetera's stage prescence is awkward and not very relaxed. In the middle of a song, he mumbled and pointed at two people who must have had their cell phone lights on and possibly pointed at him. At the end of the song, he threatened: "If you don't shut those lights off, I am going to come down off the stage and beat the sh*t out of you". Some in the audience cheered. I think he could have handled it better.

Go see Peter Cetera!

Awesome performance, loved every minute of it. He is a true gem. Sang many of the Chicago hits. Still has his voice. Absolutely must see him.

A night to remember

Mr. Cetera's performance was nothing short of spectacular. His fans are the lucky ones to still be able to see this man perform live, after the long career he's had. And he still sings so many of his songs exactly the way you'd hear them on the album. This was my 7th time seeing him live, but speaking with and shaking the mans hand after the show was life affirming. I will cherish that moment for all of my days.

Chicago made a huge mistake!

Listening to Peter reminded me why I fell in love with Chicago's music as kid. His voice today is as powerful and awesome as when he sang with the group. Seen a lot of concerts in my life but Peter's ranks up there as the best. Chicago you blew it letting go of the golden goose.

Excellent show! At 73, he can still sing with the powerful tenor voice that we all love!

Love Saban, Peter C kind of a tool

Saban continues to be one of the least places to catch a show. Peter Cetera’s voice and performance was amazing as he sounds as great as he did years ago - his voice is simply awesome. However, I couldn’t help but notice that he appears to be rigid and, at times, downright rude to the audience. He gets upset about people standing to take his picture and then upset about camera flashes, and on and on. Just let it go and let the people who paid to see you snap their phones - every other performer seems to be Ok with it. And certainly don’t lecture you fans.

Music and sound was great! Background singer Rodriguez was a hit.

Peter Cetera (born September 13, 1944) is an American singer, songwriter and bassist, well known for being an original member of the band Chicago before pursuing a solo career.

Born in the Chicago, Illinois, U.S. area Cetera first started playing music when his parents bought him an accordion instead of the guitar he wanted at age 11. After seeing a band called The Rebel Rockers in high school Cetera began playing an electric bass with friends and ended up playing in a number of bands in the Chicago area including local rock band The Exceptions.

In 1967 Cetera left The Exceptions and joined a band called The Big Thing due to the fusion of horns and rock and roll, the band went on to called themselves The Chicago Transit Authority, and eventually just Chicago. Cetera played bass and sung on a number of tracks on their self-titled debut “The Chicago Transit Authority”, however it wasn’t until their self-titled sophomore “Chicago” that the band became a real success.

With a huge knack for rock/pop ballads Cetera stayed with Chicago until the rise of the disco era in 1980, where the band suffered a drop in popularity, after having a string of Top 40 hits including “Wishing You Were Here”, “Baby What A Big Surprise” and the No. 1 hit “If You Leave Me Now”.

The singer soon found the top of the charts again with the single “The Glory of Love” on his 1986 album “Solitude/Solitaire, which is a two-times platinum selling album. Its follow up “One More Story” also performed well commercially with the hits “One Good Woman” and “Save Me”, the latter of which was the opening theme music for the TV show Baywatch.

Prior to taking a four-year hiatus Cetera released the duet “After All” with singer Cher and marked the singer/songwriter’s last release through Warner Bros. When he returned with the album “One Clear Voice” in 1995 which was followed by a tour with new River North Records label mate Ronna Reeves.

Cetera has since released “You’re the Inspiration” a compilation album of many of Cetera’s well-known tracks, “Another Perfect World” in 2001 and the Christmas album “You Just Gotta Love Christmas” featuring a collection of holiday classics.

Live reviews

Well, to start I had a terrific seat at The Hollywood Casino, Toledo OH...4th row left on aisle so Peter was in my line of sight most of concert....just looking at this man smile I could see the peace and joy in his heart...he truly loves what he does ! The concert was tremendous--I have been to many, many concerts over the past 35+ years; but Peter and his band outshone them all ! He was so 'at ease' and even when having trouble with headphone/earpiece was joking around about it. I always loved his music/lyrics/voice from Chicago days to now and honestly think he sounds and looks even better now --PC you are not getting older, you are getting better ! "Something is agreeing with you".....must be the Idaho air ~ I just can't honestly put into words how wonderful the concert was....people will have to buy a ticket and see for themselves. The only disappointment for me was there wasn't a meet and greet....after the concert I was told there was one earlier in the day for VIP's, so guess it was for the high rollers; of which I am not. BUMMER ! (Peter if you are reading this when you played at the Kit Kat bar downtown Toledo, you had to be about 18?) :-)

Peter Cetera, ages 69 now has been in music for a good four decades now, making fantastic music over the times, maintaining a very loyal following. He is a multi instrumentalist playing bass guitar, guitar, accordion and keyboards. He is one of those artists who has quite simply transcended over time, with a slew of fantastically timeless hits. It wasn’t until the 80’s that he started his solo career, however, this guy has two number one hits up his sleeve and these punters in this sold out 2000 capacity venue in his home town of Chicago cannot wait!

He opens with the song “Big Mistake” which fortunately isn’t a big mistake at all, getting this crowd of all ages dancing from start to finish. “One Good Woman” is a fantastic second song, which of course made it to number four in the charts. It’s not until he gets toward the end of his set that he performs his two number one hits one after the other “Glory of Love” and “Next Time I Fall” – a song that featured the vocal prowess of Amy Grant, the audience are electric, everyone is happy. Job done. Etc… etc… (Couldn’t resist)

Peter Cetera of Chicago fame has enjoyed both career as a band member and a soloist. He has been touring and recording since 1981 on his own work with varying commercial success however due to his dedication to the live promotion of his music his fanbase has never depleted. It is for this reason that the musician, recently turned 70 continues to head out onto the road to reach the fans and he still has a lot of passion for what he does.

He looks confident onstage with his trusty guitar in hand and still attains a lot of his showmanship that he would have first began to develop way back in the 60s. He has a great rapport with the crowd gathered tonight as he flips between his own hits and the music of his previous band. There are big singalongs for 'Stay the Night' as well as 'Oh! Darling' by The Beatles which goes down really well. Cetera shows no sign of slowing in his increasing age and after twelve songs, it seems as though he still is not ready to leave the stage.

I have loved Peter Cetera's voice for so many years and have been so eager to see him live in concert and HE DID NOT DISAPPOINT! He was fantastic! He sang so many of his hits, mostly ballads as he joked about, but so wonderful. I would've liked to have heard a few songs from his Solitude Solitaire album as that was one of my favorites and had several upbeat songs on it but they weren't radio hits so I understood. I was so impressed with this show. He had a lovely girl singing the female parts of the songs he's done with women singers that couldn't perform with him live and she sounded wonderful! Peter has a great sense of humor and still sounds fabulous.

My second time seeing Mr. Cetera and more than a few times with Chicago. I would say Peter has still got the voice and his repertoire of number one hits could go on forever. The gal that he had singing backup was a pleasant surprise. Tanya had one of the greatest ranges of tones that I have ever heard.

Hopefully he can keep it up and I will get to see him again one day soon.

Peter was spot on! He sang all of his solo career songs that we love and ended with old Chicago. Definitely a great date concert. His "back up" singer was outstanding! So so good and he is still hot as ever! I could watch the whole thing over today!

Chicago’s Robert Lamm Talks Peter Cetera Absence at Rock Hall

By Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone

Chicago became one of the more controversial groups in this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when Peter Cetera, the band’s co-founder and primary vocalist, decided to skip the induction altogether due to an impasse with the band over the group’s performance.

“I appreciate the award and I want to thank all of you who voted and finally made it happen,” Cetera said earlier this year. “Many of you will be disappointed and that’s understandable. Quite frankly, I’m disappointed as well. There comes a time when you need to make a decision based on what’s best for you without worrying about the consequences and this [is] that time.”

Co-founder Robert Lamm showed up and spoke about the induction, reuniting with old friends and Cetera-gate.

How did it feel being onstage? Was it similar to what you thought it would be? Well, I really didn’t have preconceptions to what it would be. I did know that rehearsal and sound check went really swimmingly yesterday. But I was still jangled from having felt so nervous about speaking. By the time it was time to play, I still had some nerves. And I never do! I get excited before I go onstage and play, but I’m not usually nervous. And I’m still nervous! Right now! It was that gripping, “Am I worthy?” thing that we get in the middle of the night from time to time. Am I worthy? Because I want to be worthy.

What’s the experience been like for you to be here? Who have you met that you haven’t seen before. We met Cheap Trick for the rehearsal for the finale. And that was lovely. I met Sheryl Crow for the first time. I love Grace Potter’s work, so I got to meet her. Met a couple of the N.W.A crew.

Were they familiar with your work? I’m sure. Yeah. Actually, when I was standing downstairs in the hallway, Steve Miller walked in. I haven’t seen him since 1969. He just looked at me, gave me a big hug and said, “Why has it been so fucking long?” I told him that I had the poster of the show where he opened for Chicago. He had the poster, I had the poster and we were both considering bringing it along with us for each of us to sign. But it was better seeing him and seeing how well he’s doing and watching his performance. It was great fun. That was my favorite performance of the night.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

How’d it feel without Peter Cetera at the event? The Deep Purple guys aren’t playing now, but it’s just the fact that they stood up and stood with the band and accepted the honor. And it is an honor [and] that’s the way it should have been. If Peter didn’t want to play or couldn’t play or couldn’t sing or whatever, at least he could have stood with us. I think he certainly deserves it. I think it’s unfortunate.

Did he want to change the key of “25 or 6 to 4” or something like that? Yeah, and it’s not like a half step either way. He wanted to drop it down from A to E. So it’s a big jump. [Drops voice] That’s down here. And normally, if it’s just a four-piece band you can do it, but with horns, you got to transfer those… It’s not something that we wanted to do for a one-off.

There was a lot of back and forth on if he would come or not. Well, we made it clear to him that he was welcome. I made it clear, and I perhaps spoke out of turn by giving interviews after it had been announced that we were going to be inducted. I was asked, “Are Danny and Peter going to play?” “Well yeah, I think so,” and he got completely crazy about it. Like I shouldn’t be speaking for him. I wasn’t speaking for him. So I apologized. I’m sorry if he felt I overstepped my responsibility. Anyway. That’s all insignificant stuff. It would have been lovely to have him here, and we’ve always made that plain.

Frustrated Peter Cetera Backs Out Of Rock Hall’s Chicago Reunion

will peter cetera tour again

Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images

It won’t happen after all. When Chicago co-founder co-founder Robert Lamm learned that his band was part of the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction class , he said that he might like to reunite with Peter Cetera, the former Chicago member who left the band in 1985 and hasn’t played with them since. At first, Cetera “emphatically” declined to take part in the reunion. Then, he agreed to do it . More recently, though, he threatened to walk away , citing some unnamed issue in the negotiations. And now, he’s gone on his blog to announce that he definitively will not rejoin Chicago at the Hall Of Fame induction ceremony in April. Here’s what he writes:

I just sent this to the RnR hall of fame people. This is the the short high road nice version of what I really wanted to say. I’ll post that response at the appropriate time. Ciao, Hello Alex and Joel! Unfortunately, this scenario doesn’t work for me. I know we all did our best to make it happen, but I guess it’s just not meant to be. Personally, I’m frustrated and tired of dealing with this and it’s time to move on. I have a life with two beautiful daughters and a solo career and its time to get back and give them all the full attention they deserve. Thanks for all your help and consideration! Have a great show and please send any individual award I receive to the contact you have for me. All the best, Peter Cetera

It’s worth noting that “Alex and Joel” don’t appear to be people associated with Chicago. Instead, it’s probably Hall Of Fame producers Alex Coletti and Joel Peresman. So: Did Cetera want to do one of his solo songs? Did they shoot him down? I can’t wait until this all comes out, since we already know that it absolutely will.

Chicago set for Cetera reunion at Rock Hall

Ex-singer Peter and original drummer Danny Seraphine will perform at induction, says Robert Lamm

will peter cetera tour again

Chicago will reunited for former singer and bassist Peter Cetera, along with original drummer Danny Serephine, for their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Vocalist and guitarist Robert Lamm has confirmed the pair will return for the ceremony at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on April 8. His band will be inducted alongside Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, Steve Miller and NWA.

Cetera helped propel Chicago to the big time before leaving to go solo in 1985. Fellow co-founded Seraphine bowed out in 1990.

Lamm tells Radio.com : “I don’t think Peter will be playing bass. Playing an instrument while you’re singing isn’t easy –take it from me.

“If you stop doing it, those skills get rusty. I’m not saying that he couldn’t. I think he just doesn’t want to.”

He continues: “If there’s ever a time that we can share a stage again, this is it. I think it could have a huge emotional impact on the audience.”

But Lamm doubts the one-off performance will lead to a longer-term reunion. “Anything’s possible,” he allows, before adding: “From the many conversations I’ve had with him, I don’t expect he’d want to do that, even if he has a good time at the induction.

“Several times, we’ve been approached to do a tour together – he just didn’t want to do it. I said, ‘Come out with us. You can have your own bus, you can bring whoever you want, you can sing the songs you want to sing, you don’t have to play bass.’

“He said, ‘I’ll never say never, but I don’t want to do that right now.’ I would be very surprised if he had a change of heart.”

Lamm thinks Chicago’s set could include Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is , Saturday In The Park and Beginnings . He says: “If there’s a jam at the end, I think 25 Or 6 To 4 would be perfect, because of all the guitar players being inducted. That song has been sampled so many times by hip-hop guys that even NWA could get in there.”

First time seeing Peter Cetera!

Had never seen Peter Cetera and was thoroughly enjoyed the show. He did some Chicago songs of course, but added in songs he did on his own. Would go to see him again if I get a chance!

Peter Cetera was Unforgettable!

Absolutely the best concert I have seen in a very long time. Loved all the songs he sang and his band is also phenomenal. Can’t wait until the next time he comes to Fallsview, I will definitely be there!

Great Concert!

We had seats in the left balcony with "obstructed view". There was a partition wall separating us from the VIP section. If you had the seat closest to the wall (#14) then you could not see part of the right side of the stage. Seat #13 was fine. Fortunately, there was a single seat to the left of us so after the first song we moved over one seat and we both could see the entire stage. Our seats also face the stage vs. being on the sides. As for the concert itself, we enjoyed listening and singing to the many great hits Peter and his old band Chicago had. His female partner that sang in the duets was good as well. He can still hit those high notes, but some areas of his songs were not quite like those on the album. Overall it was a great concert. There were a few noticebable empty seats in the front row of the left side for a sold out concert. I assume people forgot about it since it sold out on the first day back in March! I would not have moved to the side though.

Peter Cetera was unbelieveable

Peter Cetera is the true voice of Chicago, there is no voice like his. I have seen Chicago several times without him and his voice and stage presence is truly missed. Peter sang all the hits and had a great backing band of well known Nashville studio musicians who just enhanced the show. One of the best shows I've in all the years of attending concerts. Don't miss his show, it's a must see.

Cetera sera sera

Amazing show. The man hasn't lost a beat. The memories the songs evoke..... took me back

One of the best concerts we've attended. Great sound, outstanding band and back up singers to support one of the best voices in the business!!

A truly great and classic performer!

Peter Cetera is one of the legendary singers and songwriters for Chicago - with almost 50 years of classic hits and Peter Cetera did not disappoint with an amazing show and an amazing band and his amazing and funny personality and his unique voice, it was truly a night to be remembered. From his incredible duets to the stories about his first number one solo hit Glory of Love and some Beatles music mixed in for good measure and the encore of three of the most unforgettable Chicago hits of all time: I'm A Man, Feelin' Stronger Everyday and 25 or 6 to 4, it's simply a show that I want to see you again today! Thank you Peter for an amazing night of fantastic memories and good company - you truly are a gem!

Unforgettable

Peter Cetera and his very talented band of musicians and singers were utterly amazing! It was an unforgettable night because of many things, including the fact that they performed seemlessly without stopping (Peter discretely stepped away at one point but his band were fantastic at keeping the energy going), Peter had great stories and was so funny, and his voice was just wonderful. Brought back great memories of several decades of music!

Love Peter Cetera!

Excellent show! Good sound, wonderful band. Peter Cetera's voice is still as beautiful & strong as ever.

Peter Cetera sounded amazing!

Played all the songs you wanted to hear. Sounded amazing. Band sounded amazing! Was a great night!

Chicago's Robert Lamm talks about Peter Cetera, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, retirement and more

  • Jay Cridlin Times staff

After 50 years, brass-powered jazz-rock fusionists Chicago are having themselves a moment. They're the subject of a new documentary, Now More Than Ever: The History Of Chicago . And in April, they'll be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

"It's not something that was ever a goal," co-founder and keyboardist Robert Lamm said in a phone interview. "You want to make music that people love and appreciate when you're performing it. You don't make music to get a gold album. And you don't make music to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

Still, it's an honor they'll take -- even if according to Lamm, former singer Peter Cetera won't join them for one last song at the ceremony.

"He doesn't want to," Lamm said. "When we first were notified that we were nominated, and then we heard that we were in, I emailed him and I said, 'It'll be fun to get you and (former drummer) Danny ( Seraphine ) too.' I actually gave an interview to Rolling Stone, and they said, 'Are Danny and Peter gonna play?' And I said, 'Yeah, sure.' And Peter got right in my face and said, 'Don't speak for me.'" So I knew right away there was a problem."

Before that drama unfolds, Chicago will join Earth, Wind and Fire for a co-headlining gig at Tampa's MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre on Saturday. Tickets are $18.95 and up. Click here for details .

Chicago founding member Peter Cetera turns 79

Aside of the successful career with the band chicago, cetera scored two of the 1980’s most memorable hits, “glory of love” and “the next time i fall”.

Born on September 13, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois, Peter Cetera successful career started in 1967 as one of the founding members of the Rock band Chicago, that after releasing their debut album “Chicago” in 1969, became one of the 1970’s most popular bands. With “If You Leave Me Now”, a song written and sung by Cetera on the group’s tenth album, the band got their first Grammy Award and also first number one. During the early 1980’s they had what it’s considered their other biggest hit, “You’re The Inspiration”, but due to internal feud among Cetera and other members of the band, he quit Chicago to launch his own solo career, moving to a slightly different music direction. The highlight of his solo career happened during the mid 1980’s with the 1986 song “Glory of Love”, theme song from “The Karate Kid Part II” co-written by Cetera, earning him a worldwide number one hit and also nominations for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. He had another successful follow up hit with “The Next Time I Fall”, a duet with Amy Grant that earned him another Grammy Award nomination, for best vocal performance by a pop duo or group. Peter Cetera’s popularity significantly decreased after those two 1980’s hits, but he remained active, releasing new music and albums throughout the 1990’s and 2000’s. In 2016 Peter Cetera was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Chicago but declined to perform with the band as well as a reunion. More recently Cetera formed a new band called The Bad Daddies an electric rock band which performs original material and covers of popular songs, as well as material from Chicago and Cetera’s solo career. Today he turns 79.

Peter Cetera retires from performing

Peter Cetera  has announced his retirement from performing via a podcast.

The longtime  Chicago  vocalist never issued a press release or held a press conference.

He made the announcement on a podcast with motivational speaker  Mark Pattison . Cetera announced that he was done after a November 2018 show near his Sun Valley, Idaho home. Cetera blamed "travel" -- no longer flying on private planes, he was worn down by dealing with connecting flights to get to shows in other parts of the country. Cetera also chose to step aside before his singing voice faded.

You can hear Cetera discuss his decision beginning at the 52:30 mark of Pattison's November 22nd podcast.

If it’s summer, the rock band Chicago must be coming to Southern California

Chicago arrives at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay in San Diego for sold-out concerts on Tuesday and Wednesday after swings through Orange and L.A. counties last week.

When the band Chicago first formed, trumpeter Lee Loughnane says he and the other guys in the group knew the horn-drenched rock ‘n’ roll they made was great music, but had no idea whether anyone else would agree.

“We didn’t know it was going to go over,” Loughnane says. “We knew that we enjoyed what we were doing, and we had a good time playing together as a unit.

“But people started enjoying what we were doing in live performance every night, when we got out of the clubs and Jimi Hendrix let us come on the road with him,” he says. “And also Big Brother and the Holding Company, Janis Joplin.

“So we were exposed to larger audiences. We had our foot in the door as far as the larger crowds. And we never took our foot out of the door.”

More than 50 years later, Chicago still draws large audiences each year when the band heads out on the road. Loughnane, who plays trumpet and flugelhorn, is one of three original members still in the lineup, with guitarist-singer Robert Lamm and trombonist James Pankow the others.

“It’s amazing how long we’ve been doing this,” Loughnane says on a recent call from his home in Sedona, Ariz. “I mean, I have to pinch myself.

“We played the Greek Theatre when there were quite a bit fewer seats,” he says of the Los Angeles venue that Chicago played on Saturday. “People were climbing up in the trees outside of the venue to come to the show. It’s changed quite a bit.”

So many hits

Chicago has a good kind of problem — too many fan-favorites, not enough time — when it comes to putting together its live show.

“We’ve tried every lineup of songs that you can possibly imagine through the years,” Loughnane says. “We have one that we tweak from year to year just to make it more interesting for us, and hopefully the audience as well.

“But at the same time, we’ve been pretty consistently starting out with ‘Introduction,’ which is the first song of the first album,” he says. “And then from there we do a cross section of the entire career.”

And what a career it’s been. With more than 100 million albums sold, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers are one of the most commercially successful bands of all time. Five of the band’s 26 studio albums went to No. 1 on the charts. Twenty-one singles reached the Top 10.

Songs such as “25 or 6 to 4,” “Saturday in the Park,” “Colour My World,” and “Make Me Smile” are recognized classics, and they and many others are surely in the must-play-or-fans-will-cry category of setlist-making.

Last year, Chicago released “Chicago XXXVIII: Born for This Moment,” its 26th studio album and first of new original material in eight years. It’s a great record, Loughnane says, with a single, “If This Is Goodbye,” that reached No. 16 on the adult contemporary charts.

Still, it’s tough to get both fans and the record label to support new music when the old stuff remains so popular, he says.

“For a while we were doing the new song, ‘If This Is Goodbye,’” Loughnane says. “We did that for probably two, three tours. And now we have pulled that out of the show. You don’t want people getting up to go get popcorn when you start playing your songs. Or go to the bathroom. You want them to wait.

“Hold it now,” he says, laughing. “We’re working here!”

Old songs, new fans

Loughnane is proud that with him, Lamm and Pankow, Chicago still has half of its original six members on stage each night. (Peter Cetera, joined shortly after the others, making the classic lineup of seven, but left for a solo career years ago.)

He says the band keeps going partly because the players love to play the music, but even more for the successive generations of generations of fans that turn out to shows.

“We have built a fanbase that is extremely loyal,” Loughnane says. “And we play good shows. We have a fanbase which keeps growing through the years rather than diminishing. I mean, we’re definitely not the Taylor Swift-type fanbase, but we have enough to keep people coming back, and bringing their kids with them.

“To me, that’s a testament to the music, because the same music that we did early on is resonating with people in different age groups,” he says. “Somebody else hears it goes, ‘I like that, have you heard these guys before?’

“Then the parents come out with another stack of albums: ‘You mean these guys?’ And it grows from there.”

No goodbye yet

Today, Loughnane is 76, Pankow, 75, and Lamm, 78.

“Whether we would like to admit it,” Loughnane says, laughing, when asked his age. “I think we’re like 20 with 60 years of experience.”

Still, you release a single in 2022 titled “If This Is Goodbye,” and you’re gonna get the obvious question: Is it? Goodbye?

“Personally, I thought the album title should have been ‘If This Is Goodbye,’” Loughnane says. “Because we would have created even more questions. Which would have been great, because we have no intention of breaking up. Not at all.

The band’s longtime manager, Peter Schivarelli, always has a plan for the next three years of the group’s activities, Loughnane says. Barring something unexpected, Chicago will be on the road again in 2024.

“To put the suggestion out there is newsworthy,” Loughnane says of the single’s suggestive title. “You know, we didn’t do it intentionally. It just happened to be the title of the song, which was obviously a double meaning.

“But we’re not going anywhere.”

With “If You Leave Me Now”, a song written and sung by Cetera on the group’s tenth album, Chicago garnered its first Grammy Award. It was also the group’s first number one single.

As a solo artist, Cetera has scored six Top 40 singles, including two that reached number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in 1986, “Glory of Love” and “The Next Time I Fall”. “Glory of Love”, the theme song from the film The Karate Kid Part II (1986), was co-written by Cetera, David Foster , and Diane Nini, and was nominated for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for best original song from a motion picture. In 1987, Cetera received an ASCAP award for “Glory of Love” in the category “Most Performed Songs from Motion Pictures”. His performance on “Glory of Love” was nominated for a Grammy Award for best pop male vocal. That same year Cetera and Amy Grant, who performed as a duet on “The Next Time I Fall”, were nominated for a Grammy Award for best vocal performance by a pop duo or group.

Besides David Foster and Amy Grant, Cetera has collaborated throughout his career with other nationally and internationally known recording artists from various genres of music, including The Beach Boys, Billy Joel, Karen Carpenter, Paul Anka, Agnetha Fältskog, Richard Sterban, Bonnie Raitt, Madonna, David Gilmour, Az Yet, Cher, Chaka Khan, Crystal Bernard, Ronna Reeves, and Alison Krauss. His songs have been featured in soundtracks for movies and television.

In 2014, Chicago’s first album, Chicago Transit Authority (Columbia, 1969), featuring Cetera on bass and vocals, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Cetera was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Chicago in April 2016, and he, Robert Lamm, and James Pankow are among the 2017 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees for their songwriting efforts as members of the group. Cetera, along with other members of Chicago, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020. ( More )

Peter Malnati, PGA Tour, Valspar Championship

With his yellow golf ball and bucket hat, Peter Malnati began the day two strokes behind 54-hole leader Keith Mitchell at the Valspar Championship .

His day ended in tears, as Malnati won for the first time on the the PGA Tour since 2015. The win gives him much-needed security on the tour, and he will also receive an invitation to Augusta National for the first time.

Malnati, a current PGA Tour Policy Board member, carded a 4-under 68 on Sunday to finish at 12-under for the championship, two shots ahead of Cameron Young.

“That moment of winning a tournament and having your family come out on the green and the big hugs and all that, that’s something that I’ve seen other families have, and that has been my dream,” Malnati said after the round.

“There’s been a lot of stretches of golf in the last nine years when I wondered if I would ever have that experience. I’m at peace with who I am and the way I live and the work that I put into this. If I had never had the moment I had today, I would have been completely fine. But, man, was that special. That was so special. It felt amazing.”

Currently ranked as the 184th player in the Official World Golf Rankings, Malnati has never been higher than 143rd in his career. That will change after this week’s win, however.

Peter Malnati, PGA Tour, Valspar Championship

As such, during his tenure on the board, Malnati has always advocated for the journeyman. He has also freely expressed his opinions about the PGA Tour, making headlines for whether or not LIV Golfers will receive equity as opposed to his play.

His final round on Sunday did not start spectacularly. He opened with three pars, then missed a five-footer for par at the par-3 4th. At that juncture, it looked as if his chances of winning diminished, but anything can happen on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook—widely regarded as one of the more challenging and unpredictable courses on the PGA Tour.

Two holes later, at the par-4 6th, Malnati’s chances at victory improved. He drained a 15-footer for birdie, and suddenly, he was back in the mix at 8-under.

With Mitchell stumbling in front of him, the tournament was anyone’s for the taking. But Malnati gave himself the best chance to win thanks to three straight birdies on the 10th, 11th, and 12th holes.

Like that, Malnati sat at 11-under and in the solo lead after his 15-foot birdie putt found the bottom of the cup at 12.

Minutes later, Young tied Malnati at 11-under, and it looked as if these two were destined for an iconic finish in Florida.

“I would say, from about the 13th tee and in, I didn’t really feel like myself over any shot,” Malnati said.

“I was really amped up. I was in a state of heightened energy. So I just had to keep going through my process, and I had done enough repetitions that I could go through the process properly, and for the most part, I was able to execute.”

Then, on the par-4 16th, the most challenging hole on the course, Malnati hit his second shot, which he called “nervy,” a little over the green. His ball nestled in a gnarly lie, and a bogey loomed.

But often, you need a lucky bounce or a good break to win golf tournaments.

Malnati, who has not received many throughout his PGA Tour career, got a significant break on the 16th green. His ball came to rest near a sprinkler head, and a rules official granted Malnati relief.

"I feel this is a great break." Here is how Peter Malnati went from a nasty lie to getting free relief and saving par on the 16th hole Sunday at the Valspar Championship: pic.twitter.com/1Q3uTIn5Xy — Golf Central (@GolfCentral) March 24, 2024

Thus, Malnati got a free drop, and with it, a much-improved lie. He calmly got up and down to remain at 11-under.

Meanwhile, Young hit a poor tee shot ahead of him on the 18th, which led to a bogey.

As such, Malnati sensed an opportunity on the 17th tee and took full advantage of it.

“I remember telling my caddie I needed to make a 2—I needed to hit it 208. And 208’s a pretty big 5-iron for me, but in the situation I was in, it was just a very normal 5-iron,” Malnati said of his thought process on 17.

“So I thought, all right, it’s a perfect 5-iron, so I don’t have to do anything special with it. Start it on the TV tower, and let the wind move it over to the middle of the green. The wind moved it more than I thought. I actually executed it how I wanted to, and the wind moved it all the way to the hole and even a pinch left of it.

“But it was really fun in that moment to just step up, not overthink it, just go. It’s a full 5-iron at the TV tower. And to watch that ball fly was a really cool feeling. To have it like tracking the hole there, that was really nice.”

He stuck his tee shot to six feet, made the putt, and held a two-shot lead walking to the 18th hole.

“I was nervous over the putt too,” Malnati added. “But two balls out on the left, and it was pretty quick, so just tap it in, as Happy Gilmore would say.”

He made a stress-free par on the last, leading to many happy tears.

“This win is for all the host organizations, all the title sponsors, all the communities that kind of wonder what the meaning of their event is,” Malnati added.

“To have entertainment come to your community, fulfill dreams for people like me, and give the community something to be excited about in a way that gives back and enriches the community where we play.”

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) — Some of the shots that left Peter Malnati frustrated on the back nine were the ones that worked out so well for him Sunday in the Valspar Championship.

A putt he thought he left short dropped for birdie on the 12th hole. A shot into the 16th in mangled rough was close enough to a sprinkler that he was entitled to a free drop that put him on the fringe and made par easier.

But there was no doubting the winner.

Locked in a battle with hard-luck Cameron Young, Malnati drilled a 5-iron into the wind to 6 feet on the par-3 17th for birdie to break out of a tie, and he closed with a par for a 4-under 67 to win by two and earn his first trip to the Masters.

“I remember telling my caddie I needed to make a 2,” Malnati said. “That was really fun in that moment to just step up, not overthink it, just a full 5-iron at the TV tower, go. And to watch that ball fly was a really cool feeling.”

Malnati tapped in that yellow golf ball for par on the final hole for only his second PGA Tour victory. Young, made it easier on him by taking bogey on the final hole for a 68. Young now has seven runner-up finishes without a win.

On a wild day of rallies and meltdowns, it came down to Malnati and Young playing a group apart as they headed into the tough finishing stretch at Innisbrook known as the “Snake Pit.”

Malnati’s approach on the 16th went long and left into gnarly rough some 50 feet from the pin, leaving him a tough chip to try to save par and stay tied. But his foot was on a sprinkler head, which entitled him to a free drop. With the extra club length, he was able to drop it on the fringe and use putter, which he sent down to short range for par.

On the par-3 17th into wind, Malnati hit his most important shot of the day for birdie. Up ahead, Young hit his drive well left and did well to hammer a gap wedge over the trees and onto the green, 50 feet away. He lagged it about 10 feet short and missed the par putt.

Malnati found a fairway bunker on the 18th, but hit that on the green for a simple two-putt to finish at 12-under 272, his first victory since the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2015.

More than the $1,512,000 from winning, Malnati goes to the Masters for the first time and gets a two-year exemption. He also is assured of getting into the remaining four $20 million signature events without any help.

Malnati is one of six player-directors on the PGA Tour board, and he was singled out for criticism when he received a sponsor exemption — along with two other board members — to the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

“I told myself to do my best on every shot,” Malnati said as he fought back tears. “I was so nervous coming down the stretch. I can’t describe it. It’s so cool.”

It was gut-wrenching for Young, one of the top young talents and power players in golf who can’t seem to get across the line. He shot 31 on the back nine at St. Andrews in the 2022 British Open, only to finish one shot behind Cameron Smith, who shot 30. Young also was in the hunt until the 16th hole of the 2022 PGA Championship.

“It was just a bad time for a pull,” Young said of his tee shot on the 18th.

Mackenzie Hughes of Canada (70) and PGA Tour rookie Chandler Phillips (69) tied for third. They were among five players who had at least a share of the lead in the final round at Innisbrook.

Hughes had the lead on the back nine with a 45-foot birdie putt on the 10th hole. He was tied and in the middle of the 12th fairway when it began to fall apart. His approach went over the green and into the back slope of the bunker, leaving him no shot to a back pin. He fell two shots behind when Malnati made a 15-foot birdie.

On the par-3 13th, Hughes came up short and in the water and he was never seriously part of the mix the rest of the way.

Keith Mitchell started the day with a two-shot lead, and he was three behind at the turn. Mitchell had to pitch out of the trees three times on the opening six holes and did not have a hole under par until an eagle on the 14th. By then he was 8 over for his round. He shot 77,

Seamus Power, playing in the final group, shot 76.

Malnati is No. 184 in the world ranking, making him the fifth player to win full PGA Tour events this year. His only other win in the fall of 2015 did not come with an automatic invitation to the Masters. Fall events started getting invitations the next year.

“You wonder if you’re ever going to do it again,” Malnati said. “In the nine years since my last win, it’s getting harder.”
