As this is my first time travelling abroad alone, I thought it would be best to go throught a company. Global Work and Travel have been an amazing help so far; they've helpfully answered any questions I have, given me an insight as to what it may be like and are willing to set me up with the starting necessities I need for my trip. All the Global staff i have communicated with so far have been nothing but kind and useful. I would absolutely consider booking through them in the future.

Horrible turnover/ frustrating experience with travel concierge

I would give my trip coordinator 5 stars. My travel concierge, however, changed people 3 times. Someone new would call and introduce themselves as my travel concierge and I have no idea who I ended up with. Gave me very little info to the point I had to go back and talk to my trip coordinator. Didn’t include the things we spoke about in proposed plan originally and didn’t tell me they would be sending a confirmation email. I guess the travel concierge is just supposed to take your money for your flight and then hand you back over to the trip coordinator. Thank god, I’d rather work with my trip coordinator instead of a 4th person who’s not going to give me any information and make me feel like giving them my money is scam.

Global has made planning this trip stress free!

Global has been very helpful throughout this process. I have never booked a trip this big before and they helped me so much. They made the process stress free by laying out everything for me and giving me all the details I needed to feel confident in my travel decisions. With all of the helpful documents and emails provided, I was able to understand the process fully which made me feel safe. As someone who is a big planner/organizer, they really helped me take care of all the small details I was worried about. Every time I had a random question, I could ask it at any time of day and get an answer very quickly, and even be provided more information.

Had to cancel bank card. Massive scam

Honestly a terrible company to work with. You will loose your money if you no longer are interested in your travel. They do not refund any money even if you cancel (please read the terms and conditions they have). I’ve had to cancel my bank card just to get away from them stealing all my money. Don’t risk it I’d rather sort a working holiday out on my own.

John my travel agent made experience booking/paying experience incredible! He was so kind and patient and honestly so easy to talk to. He understood my needs and made sure they were met. I'm not the easiest of customers so it really does make a difference when someone understands that and works around YOU. He was really lovely and easy going and I'd honestly recommend anyone booking on to ask for John he's just insane !!

Unnecessary waste of money

Unnecessary program, coordinator and company failed to show their worth or usefulness in my endeavor to work abroad. Poor communication, very limited assistance with tasks like applying for a visa, bank card and tax number. All of which can be easily completed by yourself. Also a very limited scope of jobs you may apply for. Minimal effort put into my preferences on location or type of work. A complete waste of money. I adamantly discourage anyone from wasting their money on global work and travel.

J-1 Summer Work/Travel

The J-1 Summer Work/Travel Program allows full-time university students from outside of the USA to enter the USA and work for a period of up to four months. It also allows for a 30-day travel period before returning home to begin their next semester of university.

J-1 Intern/Trainee Program

The J-1 Intern/Trainee Program allows qualified students or graduates from outside of the USA to enter the USA and train for a period of six to 18 months. This experience betters their professional skills in order to obtain full-time employment in their home country.

Camp Exchange USA

Summer Camp in the United States is a way of life. Over a million children a year in a America attend a camp and in South Africa we look for young councilors who are keen to travel to America for the summer to work with kids, teach a sport or an activity. Most people who go to camp say it is the greatest job you will ever have because you are paid to do a hobby or sport you love.  So if you like children and have a sport or skill you love doing and are happy to teach it to children, then camp is for you.

Eligibility

• Interested applicants must be between the ages of 19-27
• Must have experience with children, not necessarily as a form of profession but a profession related to fields of teaching, coach and youth/social worker is an advantage. In general have a set of skill to offer to children.
• Must be South African, or have a valid visa to be in South Africa
• Prepared to work hard and commit to the conditions and cultures set for camp and America as a country.

Duration and Start Dates

• Program applications are open year around.
• It takes a minimum of 2-3 months to place candidates and process everything needed for the visa program.
• The program is a minimum of 9 weeks. It is best to APPLY EARLY.

The Visa classed used for this program is the J1 exchange Visa.

After you have completed your program, you have a 30 day grace period in which you may travel America.

During your employment at the summer camp, you will earn a minimum if $950 for the while duration of your contact. The location that your camp can be varies as there are over 12 000 Summer Camps in America and any one of them can select you to offer a position.

It is a requirement that all flight details are handled by Awesome Travel through our flight department. This includes the free flight change that is offered with the ticket of which you can request day of when you would like to change the flight to and we will aim for the closest date possible if not the exact date.

As a camp councilor, in your position you would be in charge of setting up and managing a program/activity schedule that is in line with your activity, be it archery, rock climbing, swimming or even boating.

CO 52 closure planned east of Hudson for resurfacing work

Travel advisory.

Weld County — A five-week full closure is planned on Colorado Highway 52 between Evergreen Street in the Town of Hudson and Weld County Road 51 from May 6 to June 7 for major construction activities. A full highway closure will speed up the asphalt pavement resurfacing schedule while providing a safe work zone for travelers and workers. Access to adjacent properties within the closure area will be provided.

This section of CO 52 is roughly 22 feet wide making it difficult to maintain two-way traffic in one lane while heavy construction equipment operates in the other lane. The signed detour route will direct drivers to travel north around the work zone by using Hudson Drive, Interstate 76 Frontage Road and Weld County Road 51. The detour adds about four miles for through-traffic on CO 52.

An oversize vehicle width restriction of 10 feet is in place on CO 52. The signed oversize vehicle detour route will use CO 52 south of the Town of Wiggins and CO 79 to connect I-76 to I-70.

The Colorado Department of Transportation and Holcim-WCR Inc. will make improvements to over six miles of CO 52 between Evergreen Street in Hudson and Weld County Road 59 this spring and summer. This project will improve the entire road surface with a new asphalt layer. Minor shoulder widening will occur in some areas. This project will also upgrade guardrail, install rumble strips and place new roadside signs and delineators. Benefits of the project include providing a smoother driving surface and increasing the longevity of the highway. Construction completion is anticipated in early fall.

When the highway is open, the project will also require periodic single lane operations with flaggers alternating traffic. WCR 51 at CO 52 is expected to stay open to traffic during the project. A second full closure on CO 52 is expected later this summer between WCR 51 and WCR 59. More information will follow.

Work will be performed during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional extended hours and weekend work. The construction schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change.

LAS VEGAS — A $12 billion high-speed passenger rail line between Las Vegas and the Los Angeles area has started construction, officials said Monday, amid predictions that millions of ticket-buyers will be boarding trains by 2028.

“People have been dreaming of high-speed rail in America for decades,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement released to coincide with a ceremony at the future site of a terminal to be built just south of the Las Vegas Strip.

Buttigieg predicted the project will bring “thousands of union jobs, new connections to better economic opportunity, less congestion on the roads, and less pollution in the air.”

Brightline West, whose sister company already operates a fast train between Miami and Orlando in Florida, aims to lay 218 miles (351 kilometers) of new track between Las Vegas and another new facility in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Almost the full distance is to be built in the median of Interstate 15, with a station stop in San Bernardino County’s Victorville area.

Brightline Holdings founder and Chairperson Wes Edens dubbed the moment “the foundation for a new industry.”

“This is a historic project and a proud moment,” Edens said in the statement. “Today is long overdue.”

Brightline aims to link other U.S. cities that are too near to each other for air travel to make sense and too far for people to drive the distance.

Company CEO Mike Reininger has said the goal is to have trains operating in time for the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.

Brightline received $6.5 billion in backing from the Biden administration, including a $3 billion grant from federal infrastructure funds and approval to sell another $2.5 billion in tax-exempt bonds. The company won federal authorization in 2020 to sell $1 billion in similar bonds.

The project is touted as the first true high-speed passenger rail line in the nation, designed to reach speeds of 186 mph (300 kph), comparable to Japan’s Shinkansen bullet trains.

The route between Vegas and LA is largely open space, with no convenient alternate to I-15. Brightline’s Southern California terminal will be at a commuter rail connection to downtown Los Angeles.

The project outline says electric-powered trains will cut the four-hour trip across the Mojave Desert to a little more than two hours. Forecasts are for 11 million one-way passengers per year, or some 30,000 per day, with fares well below airline travel costs. The trains will offer rest rooms, Wi-Fi, food and beverage sales and the option to check luggage.

Las Vegas is a popular driving destination for Southern Californians. Officials hope the train line will relieve congestion on I-15, where drivers often sit in miles of crawling traffic while returning home from a Las Vegas weekend.

The Las Vegas area, now approaching 3 million residents, draws more than 40 million visitors per year. Passenger traffic at the city’s Harry Reid International Airport set a record of 57.6 million people in 2023. An average of more than 44,000 automobiles per day crossed the California-Nevada state line on I-15 in 2023, according to Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority data.

Florida-based Brightline Holdings launched the Miami-to-Orlando line in 2018 with trains reaching speeds up to 125 mph (200 kph). It expanded service to Orlando International Airport last September. It offers 16 round-trips per day, with one-way tickets for the 235-mile (378-kilometer) distance costing about $80.

Brightline West acquired rights to the project in 2019, pieced together right-of-way and environmental approvals, and reached labor agreements.

Ideas for connecting other U.S. cities with high-speed passenger trains have been floated in recent years, including Dallas to Houston; Atlanta to Charlotte, North Carolina; and Chicago to St. Louis. Most have faced delays.

In California, voters in 2008 approved a proposed 500-mile (805-kilometer) rail line linking Los Angeles and San Francisco, but the plan has been beset by rising costs and routing disputes. A 2022 business plan by the California High-Speed Rail Authority projected the cost had more than tripled to $105 billion.

Making history: brightline west breaks ground on america’s first high-speed rail project connecting las vegas to southern california  , officials hammer the first spike commemorating the groundbreaking for brightline west.

LAS VEGAS (April 22, 2024)  – Today, Brightline West officially broke ground on the nation's first true high-speed rail system which will connect Las Vegas to Southern California. The 218-mile system will be constructed in the middle of the I-15 and is based on Brightline’s vision to connect city pairs that are too short to fly and too far to drive. Hailed as the greenest form of transportation in the world, Brightline West will run zero emission, fully electric trains capable of speeds of 200 miles per hour. Brightline West is a watershed project for high-speed rail in America and will establish the foundation for the creation of a new industry and supply chain. The project was recently awarded $3 billion in funding from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. The rest of the project will be privately funded and has received a total allocation of $3.5 billion in private activity bonds from USDOT.

The groundbreaking included remarks from U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Brightline Founder Wes Edens, Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo, Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, Sen. Jacky Rosen, Senior Advisor to President Biden Steve Benjamin and Vince Saavedra of the Southern Nevada Building Trades. In addition, Nevada Reps. Dina Titus, Susie Lee and Steve Horsford and California Reps. Pete Aguilar and Norma Torres made remarks and joined the celebration. More than 600 people, including union representatives, project supporters and other state and local officials from California and Nevada, attended the event.

“People have been dreaming of high-speed rail in America for decades – and now, with billions of dollars of support made possible by President Biden’s historic infrastructure law, it’s finally happening,” said Secretary Buttigieg. “Partnering with state leaders and Brightline West, we’re writing a new chapter in our country’s transportation story that includes thousands of union jobs, new connections to better economic opportunity, less congestion on the roads, and less pollution in the air.”

“This is a historic project and a proud moment where we break ground on America’s first high-speed rail system and lay the foundation for a new industry,” said Wes Edens, Brightline founder. “Today is long overdue, but the blueprint we’ve created with Brightline will allow us to repeat this model in other city pairs around the country.”

CONSTRUCTION OF BRIGHTLINE WEST

Brightline West's rail system will span 218 miles and reach speeds of 200 mph. The route, which has full environmental clearance, will run within the median of the I-15 highway with zero grade crossings. The system will have stops in Las Vegas, Nev., as well as Victor Valley, Hesperia and Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

The privately led infrastructure project is one of the largest in the nation and will be constructed and operated by union labor. It will use 700,000 concrete rail ties, 2.2 million tons of ballast, and 63,000 tons of 100% American steel rail during construction. Upon completion, it will include 322 miles of overhead lines to power the trains and will include 3.4 million square feet of retaining walls. The project covers more than 160 structures including viaducts and bridges. Brightline West will be fully Buy America Compliant.

STATIONS AND FACILITIES

Brightline West will connect Southern California and Las Vegas in two hours or almost half the time as driving. The Las Vegas Station will be located near the iconic Las Vegas Strip, on a 110-acre property north of Blue Diamond Road between I-15 and Las Vegas Boulevard. The site provides convenient access to the Harry Reid International Airport, the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium. The station is approximately 80,000 square feet plus parking.

The Victor Valley Station in Apple Valley will be located on a 300-acre parcel southeast of Dale Evans Parkway and the I-15 interchange. The station is intended to offer a future connection to the High Desert Corridor and California High Speed Rail. The Victor Valley Station is approximately 20,000 square feet plus parking.

The Rancho Cucamonga Station will be located on a 5-acre property at the northwest corner of Milliken Avenue and Azusa Court near Ontario International Airport. The station will be co-located with existing multi-modal transportation options including California Metrolink, for seamless connectivity to Downtown Los Angeles and other locations in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. The Rancho Cucamonga Station is approximately 80,000 square feet plus parking.

The Hesperia Station will be located within the I-15 median at the I-15/Joshua Street interchange and will function primarily as a local rail service for residents in the High Desert on select southbound morning and northbound evening weekday trains.

The Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) is a 200,000-square-foot building located on 238 acres in Sloan, Nev., and will be the base for daily maintenance and staging of trains. This site will also serve as one of two hubs for the maintenance of way operations and the operations control center. More than 100 permanent employees will report on a daily basis once operations begin and will serve as train crews, corridor maintenance crews, or operations control center teammates. A second maintenance of way facility will be located adjacent to the Apple Valley station.

The Las Vegas and Southern California travel market is one of the nation’s most attractive corridors with over 50 million trips between the region each year. Additionally, Las Vegas continues to attract visitors from around the world, with 4.7 million international travelers flying into the destination. The city dubs itself on being the world’s No. 1 meeting destination, welcoming nearly 6 million people to the Las Vegas Convention Center last year.

In California, approximately 17 million Southern California residents are within 25 miles of the Brightline West station sites. Studies show that one out of every three visits to Las Vegas come from Southern California.

ECONOMIC & ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS

Brightline West's $12 billion infrastructure investment will create over $10 billion in economic impact for Nevada and California and will generate more than 35,000 jobs, including 10,000 direct union construction roles and 1,000 permanent operations and maintenance positions. The investment also includes over $800 million in improvements to the I-15 corridor and involves agreements with several unions for skilled labor. The project supports Nevada and California's climate goals by offering a no-emission mobility option that reduces greenhouse gasses by over 400,000 tons of CO2 annually – reducing vehicle miles traveled by more than 700 million each year and the equivalent of 16,000 short-haul flights. The company will also construct three wildlife overpasses, in partnership with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Caltrans for the safe passage of native species, primarily the bighorn sheep.

BRIGHTLINE FLORIDA

Brightline’s first rail system in Florida connecting Miami to Orlando began initial service between its South Florida stations in 2018. In September 2023, Brightline’s Orlando station opened at Orlando International Airport, connecting South Florida to Central Florida. The company has plans to expand its system with future stops in Tampa, Florida’s Space Coast in Cocoa and the Treasure Coast in Stuart.

Nicki Minaj's Husband Kenneth Petty Gets Judge's Permission to Travel Internationally for Pink Friday 2 World Tour

Petty, who's been married to Minaj for five years, cites "childcare" and "various purposes" to travel with the rapper to several countries.

Kenneth Petty will get to spend more time with his wife, Nicki Minaj , as she embarks on the international leg of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, set to begin in Toronto on April 30.

According to documents filed on Petty's behalf on April 15, the 46-year-old sought permission from a federal judge to travel and provide "child care" of their 3-year-old son, along with other "various purposes."

“Defendant Kenneth Petty ('Mr. Petty'), by and through counsel, hereby applies to the Court for an Order allowing him to travel out of the country with his family for his wife’s tour and her professional purposes,” the filing reads, as shared by media legal reporter Meghann Cuniff .

It continues, "Mr. Petty and Mrs. Petty believe Mr. Petty is necessary to accompany the family on the tour for various purposes, including childcare. The anticipated travel schedule begins on April 17, 2024 and continues periodically to July 14, 2024. The travel schedule calls for travel to several countries including Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Austria, Ireland, Switzerland, and Romania. The Government has been notified about this application and takes no position. Mr. Petty’s probation officer has been notified of this application and has no objection to the travel request."

Cuniff added on Tuesday that Petty's request was approved by Judge Michael Fitzgerald in L.A.

Petty will need to give his probation officer details regarding his travel and itinerary, in addition to being required to check in with his P.O. upon his return to Los Angeles at the tour's conclusion in July.

Petty is a registered sex offender, stemming from the 1994 rape of Jennifer Hough , who was 16 years old at the time of the alleged incident. In 2023, he was required to fulfill 120 days of house arrest after making threats online to rapper Offset .

In 2019, Petty accompanied his wife during a Nicki Wrld Tour show in Frankfurt, Germany. Security guard Thomas Weidenmuller alleged he was assaulted by the couple backstage. Weidenmuller sued the Pettys for $732,000 in 2022, but the couple reportedly didn't respond to the lawsuit, and may have to cough up $503,318 thanks to a recent default judgment.
