Best Times To Visit Panama City Beach

The best time to visit Panama City Beach is from May through October. Though the area boasts an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, late spring, summer and early fall offer some of the warmest air and water temperatures. Plus, by avoiding a visit in March or April, you'll dodge the deluge of college students who descend on the area's ivory sands every year for spring break. You'll save on lodging prices during the area's low season (November to February), but it'll likely be too chilly to enjoy the ocean.

Panama City, Florida is a popular destination for tourists looking to soak up the sun and enjoy the beach . However, there are certain times of the year when visiting this city may not be the best idea. Spring break is one of those times. Here are five reasons why you should avoid Panama City, Florida during spring break.

Spring break is a time when college students flock to Panama City, Florida to party and have a good time. This means that the city is packed with people, making it difficult to move around and enjoy the attractions. The beaches are especially crowded, with students taking up every inch of sand. If you’re looking for a peaceful vacation, spring break is not the time to visit Panama City.

With so many people in one place, it’s no surprise that the noise level in Panama City during spring break is off the charts. Students are constantly partying, blasting music, and shouting. If you’re looking for a quiet vacation, you won’t find it here during spring break.

The influx of tourists during spring break also means that traffic in Panama City is a nightmare. The roads are congested, and it can take hours to get from one place to another. If you’re planning on renting a car, be prepared to spend a lot of time sitting in traffic.

4. Higher Prices

Because spring break is such a popular time to visit Panama City, prices for everything from hotels to restaurants to attractions are higher than usual. You’ll end up spending more money than you would during other times of the year. If you’re on a budget, it’s best to avoid Panama City during spring break.

5. Safety Concerns

However, there are certain times of the year when visiting Panama City with young children may not be the best idea.

The worst time to visit Panama City, Florida for families with young children is during the spring break season. The beaches are also not safe for young children during this time, as the crowds can be overwhelming, and there is a higher risk of accidents and injuries.

Another reason why spring break is the worst time to visit Panama City with young children is that the prices for accommodations and attractions are much higher than usual. If you’re planning a family vacation to Panama City, Florida, it’s best to avoid the spring break season and visit during the off-season. The best time to visit is during the fall or winter months when the crowds are smaller, and the prices are more affordable. During these months, the weather is still warm enough to enjoy the beaches and outdoor activities, but without the overwhelming crowds and party atmosphere.

Visiting Panama City during the off-season also has its benefits for families with young children. The attractions and beaches are less crowded, which means that parents can keep a closer eye on their children and ensure their safety. The prices for accommodations and activities are also more affordable, which means that families can enjoy more activities and experiences without breaking the bank.

worst time to visit panama city beach

Everyone knows that Panama City Beach is one of the hottest places in Florida and the South, both literally and metaphorically. But when is the best to travel here? Below we answer that question by covering things such as when PCB is the most busy, when its best to take your kids on a family vacation, what the average temperatures are, how the humidity is, and some of the main events going on that make it such a popular spot! Hopefully below you’ll find everything you need to know to help you plan when you should have your next visit to PCB!

Spring in Panama City Beach

Temperatures: High-76° F/24° C Low-60° F/16° C Average Water-73° F/23° C

This time of year is when you’ll see Panama City Beach at its craziest! Spring Break turns this place into one of the most popular and crowded destination spots in the South! In the Grand Lagoon, you can see a massive party centered around Club La Vela , the largest club in the entire USA. These are no average parties either, restaurants bring out their most unique cocktails for the Spring Breakers to ensure a crazy experience. However, it’s only for a part of the whole season as Spring Break usually only lasts around the month of March. The weather is warm and calm and the Florida humidity is also low, which is great for people who are planning to travel to PCB from areas not as South as us and are concerned about being comfortable. It’s also worth it to consider getting a rental early if you’re planning to stay. Reservations for Spring Break start to have a back log around New Years, and its difficult to find good places after that. This is especially the case for hotels along the beach. For parents looking to vacation with their kids over Spring Break from school, its generally not recommended as the parties are heavily oriented towards those over the age of 21. If you decide to anyway, its recommended to pay slightly higher rates for somewhere near the Western end of PCB, as most of the major events occur near the East in the Grand Lagoon area.

Summer in Panama City Beach

Temperatures: High-87° F/31° C Low-73° F/23° C Average Water-83° F/28° C

The Summers here are also very busy. However, the type of people who travel down South during the months of June, July, and August are vastly different than the Spring Breakers. You should be able to find rentals with decent rates despite the somewhat crowded time of visit. If you’re not sure of where to stay, we also have an article to help you in learning the best places to stay in PCB ! Its also a great idea to visit with your kids during their break from school! There are many fun and family oriented activities the make this a great destination spot, such as the Freedom Rocks 4th of July celebration and things like the Sea Dragon Pirate Cruise . Water-based activities here are also the best in the USA, with June presenting a perfect opportunity for a pontoon rental, visit Shell Island , or just enjoy the Emerald Coast. Humidity is very high in the month of June, as well as July. The humidity is so high that near the end of the season around July and August, middle of the day intense rains are fairly common. This also occurs throughout the rest of Florida. They pass quickly though, and its recommended you take the break to go dine at one of the local restaurants instead of just heading back for the day, since it will usually be clear by the time you finish your meal! Enjoying the Emerald Gulf’s water, some of the most beautiful in the USA, can also help with the humidity.

Fall in Panama City Beach

Temperatures: High-79° F/26° C Low-63° F/17° C Average Water-72° F/22° C

Fall is when the rental rates start to drop back down! This is the perfect season to visit for those looking for average weather that’s not too hot and with low humidity. For those who are used to colder weather, the water will seem very comfortable despite being 10 degrees lower than in the previous months. If you want to keep your kids out of school a little bit longer, there are also tons of fun family events! In just the month of October, we have both the Pirates of the High Seas Festival and the Bloody Mary and Music Festival , some of the most well known occasions in the South! It also tends to not be a popular time of year due to everyone getting the urge to travel out of them during the warmer months, so don’t expect many crowds outside of the major events! Restaurants don’t shut down here during the off-seasons like other places in Florida, so you’ll be able to have all the great food that PCB is known for! If you haven’t been to any of the seafood restaurants here yet, you’re missing out! Beaches will also be more open, especially at Shell Island, so you can have a destination for your own private getaway vacation!

Winter in Panama City Beach

Temperatures: High-65° F/18° C Low-48° F/9° C Average Water-63° F/17° C

It may be tempting to travel with the kids on vacation during their winter break from school to more sunny spots, and we can help with that! The beaches will be almost completely open, as the water is incredibly brisk to say the least. The air can be a bit chilly too, going down to an average of 48 degrees at some times, usually in the month of February. Luckily the humidity is also lower in the South during Winter! Despite this, it is still one of the warmest paces in all of the USA during this season. Since PCB has made a huge effort to preserve both natural and artificial reefs, fishing can be done year round, so its worth considering spending a day out on the water! Rates on fishing charters are relatively low due to how many there are to choose from ! Restaurants still serve fresh catch despite the chilly weather! It could also be one of the best times to travel if you’re into scuba diving, since its cool enough to back off the algae buildup that often may occur.

Hopefully these quick descriptions can help you with a general idea of what your trip could look like depending on the season. In general though, they can be broken down like this: Spring is great for the people who want to party and go wild without kids around, Summer is great for families and perfect for water activities, but with the most humidity, Fall is the slightly colder, with lower rates, and with less humidity version of Summer, and Winter is a time for experiencing PCB without tourists and with open beaches, as long as you don’t mind the slight cold. All of these experiences combined make us a perfect destination spot regardless of the season!

Best and Worst Times to Visit Panama

The best time to visit Panama is during the dry season from the late winter to late spring. The worst time is the rainy season from June through November. But some months are better or worse than others.

Panama is famous for the Panama Canal that connects the Caribbean Sea with the Pacific Ocean. Caribbean cruises often visit the port of Colon at the eastern end of the canal while Pacific coast cruises visit Panama City on the western end.

The two ports, which are only 45 miles apart, share similar temperatures. Daytime temperatures are consistently in the high 80s to low 90s Fahrenheit and low 30s Celsius for most of the year.

Wet and Dry Seasons

Both coasts of Panama have heavier rains during part of the year as a result of both the Caribbean and Pacific hurricane seasons. The Panama season begins in May and the Caribbean season begins in June. Both last through November.

These seasons begin mildly and become more active until reaching a high point during the fall months of September and October.

Heavy bursts of rain occur during this rainy season. The Caribbean side of the Panama Canal receives twice as much rain as Panama City. It is known for having short, sudden afternoon thunderstorms.

Much like the Caribbean, the Panama Canal Zone has a tropical climate with high humidity year-round.

The average high temperature on the Caribbean coast reaches the upper 80s Fahrenheit during the entire year. For the west coast and Panama City, the average highs reach into the 90s Fahrenheit, according to Instituto de Meteorologia e Hidrologia de Panama, Panama’s national meteorological service.

But visitors should bring warm clothes if they plan on going to high altitudes, say Boquete, El Valle or Cerro Punta. The weather is also crisp and bright during this period, making it a great time for surfing, snorkelling and diving.

It stands to reason that for tourists visiting a country like Panama , they would expect to focus on such things as shopping and excursions.

But they should take into consideration that Panamanians simply love their holidays. As such, if they visit at the wrong time (during the holidays), they may find a ghost town with all attractions, banks, offices, stores and restaurants closed.

If the official holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, expect everything to stay closed on the following Monday.

As a general rule, visitors will find holiday closures more often in early January, February, the Easter period and November. The dry season historically goes from late December through April.

Local Events

During the dry season, Panama is lit up with the colors of its various celebrations. As an example, January ushers in the Flower and Coffee Festival in Boquete and the Jazz Festival in Panama City.

Many travellers like to organize their visit around Carnival Mardi Gras parties occurring four days before Ash Wednesday for town parades, dancing and music.

Holy week during March is a major calendar event in Panama. During this time, the streets become aglow with processions and parades. During the 40 days after Easter, the quaint, two-week religious event, Festival Corpus Christi in La Villa de Los Santos is marked by devil-mask-wearing dancers.

Visitors travelling to Panama will find it’s so much more than its famed canal. But it is necessary to visit at a time conducive to enjoying all that Panama has to offer so that visitors can make the best of the experience.

We've never been to PCB, and we don't really have any set plans or places that absolutely must see/do. But, I do think we are going to have to add the Sea Screamer to the must' see's. It looks awesome.

But, are there any places that we should avoid? TIA!

The All American Diner maybe had the worst breakfast ever.

Thanks for the heads up!

' class=

I totally agree about the All American Diner - TERRIBLE.

We lucked up on finding the Pickle Patch on Thomas Drive for a great inexpensive breakfast. (My husband loved the gravy! I don't eat gravy). The large "Country Boy" breakfast was around $8.00 and they also had many less expensive choices. Not fancy, just a small county cooking diner with good service.

The Ripley's Believe it or Not is very lame. Total waste of money and time. I wonder if it's even still there?

I'd avoid Capt. Anderson's. Major tourist trap restaurant. Hundreds of people eating overpriced fried seafood. It's sort of like a cattle call kind of place. Highly overrated. I know some people rave about this place and go every year of their lives, but we thought it was a huge tourist trap with mediocre food. Lot's of better choices.

Do not, I repeat do not rent scooters from Half price scooter rentals. There located near Walmart. We had a very bad expierence with them. The equimpent is not safe for anyone to ride and we had to file a police report on them. Very shaddy company.

Pineapple willys in less they have change they charge you for ever refill on your tea & soft drinks plus the ribs are not that good they have a great view and thats about it for us.

However, I don't know why jms had a horrible time, because right now, the water is crystal clear and gorgeous. I was on the beach for 2 hours yesterday and 2 hours today. I did see 2 jellyfish yesterday, and a bit of seaweed today, but other than that it is lovely. Also, we are staying at the Osprey on the Gulf and it is fantastic. First time we have stayed here and it is my new place to stay. It is on Front Beach Road, which is the main strip, and yes, you will hear a motorcycle here and there, but that is to be expected (especially with bike week starting this weekend)... nothing has disrupted our sleep. The beach out from our hotel is full of older couples and families, I have seen NO teenagers or college aged kids around. It has been great and peaceful and a very relaxing vacation, and we still have 3 full days left! We haven't done much else but eat out a bit and lay on the beach, so I can't say too much else to avoid at this point. Just do you research on places to eat here on TripAdvisor and you will do a-okay. If you do steak though, I totally recommend Angelo's Steak Pit. Get the Shish-Kabob! Yummmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!

The Worst Time to Visit Panama City Beach

wyandottedaily

If you’re planning a trip to Panama City Beach, choosing the right time to visit can make or break your experience. While this sunny beach destination offers plenty of excitement and natural beauty, there are certain periods when it’s best to avoid. Whether you’re hoping to avoid the crowds, save some money, or steer clear of unfavorable weather conditions, it’s essential to consider the worst time to visit Panama City Beach for a stress-free and enjoyable vacation.

The peak tourist season

When it comes to tourism, Panama City Beach is at its busiest during the peak summer season. From May to August, the beach experiences a significant influx of tourists, turning it into a bustling and vibrant destination. However, for those seeking a more peaceful and relaxed vacation, this may not be the best time to visit.

The high number of visitors during these months leads to overcrowding on the beach, resulting in longer lines for popular activities and attractions. Whether you want to try out water sports or simply relax under the sun, be prepared for larger crowds and potential wait times.

In addition to the crowded beach, you’ll also find restaurants and eateries filled to the brim with hungry tourists. This means you may encounter longer wait times for tables or even difficulty securing a reservation at popular dining spots. For a more seamless dining experience, it might be wise to plan your meals ahead or consider visiting during off-peak hours.

Accommodations can also be more challenging to find during the peak season. With a high demand for hotels and vacation rentals, availability may be limited, and prices tend to be higher. This can make it harder to find the perfect place to stay that fits your budget and preferences.

Despite these drawbacks, the peak tourist season does offer its own advantages. The lively atmosphere and abundance of events and activities make it an exciting time to visit for those who thrive in a vibrant and energetic environment. However, if you prefer a more serene and tranquil vacation, exploring other times of the year may be a better choice.

Spring Break

Spring Break in Panama City Beach is notorious for attracting college students and partygoers, creating a chaotic and rowdy atmosphere that may not be suitable for families or those looking for a more relaxed vacation. The influx of young people seeking a wild and carefree time can result in crowded beaches, loud music, and an increase in alcohol-fueled parties.

The month of March

March is the busiest time for Spring Break in Panama City Beach. During this month, the number of visitors significantly increases, leading to even more alcohol-fueled parties, loud music, and overcrowded beaches. For those who prefer a quieter and more peaceful vacation, March may not be the ideal time to visit because the hustle and bustle can be overwhelming.

Hurricane season

Visiting Panama City Beach during the hurricane season, which runs from June to November, poses a risk of encountering severe weather conditions and potential disruptions to travel plans. The area is located in a region prone to hurricanes and tropical storms, which can bring significant damage and safety concerns.

The months of August to October

During these months, the likelihood of hurricanes or tropical storms affecting the area is even higher. The warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico create favorable conditions for these weather systems to form. As a result, visitors may experience intense storms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds during their stay in Panama City Beach.

Visitors should also be aware that evacuation orders may be issued in case of an approaching hurricane or tropical storm. In such situations, it can be challenging to find accommodation or transportation, and attractions or activities may be closed or canceled.

Given these circumstances, it is advisable to plan your trip to Panama City Beach outside of the hurricane season to ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience. The months from December to May offer a lower risk of encountering severe weather, hence providing a better opportunity to explore and enjoy all that this beautiful destination has to offer.

Winter season

While Panama City Beach has a mild winter climate compared to other parts of the country, it may not be the ideal destination for those seeking warm beach days and outdoor activities during the winter months.

The months of December to February

During these months, the weather in Panama City Beach can be cooler and unpredictable. Cold fronts may occur, bringing cooler temperatures that are not conducive to sunbathing and water sports. Additionally, there is a higher chance of rainy days, limiting the opportunities for outdoor activities. Visitors may find themselves unable to fully enjoy the beach and may need to seek indoor attractions or alternative destinations for their winter vacation. However, if beachgoers are willing to brave the occasional chillier temperatures, they may still be able to enjoy the more serene ambiance and natural beauty of Panama City Beach during the winter months.

In conclusion, while Panama City Beach is a popular vacation destination, it’s important to time your visit wisely to avoid the worst times. By considering factors such as weather, events, and crowds, you can plan a trip that maximizes your enjoyment. Whether you’re seeking a relaxing beach getaway or a vibrant party atmosphere, being aware of the times to avoid will ensure a more pleasant experience. So next time you’re planning a trip to Panama City Beach, remember to check the calendar and make sure you’re heading there during the best times to visit. Happy travels!

The Best and Cheapest Time to Visit Panama

worst time to visit panama city beach

Panama is a beautiful vacation destination all year round. That is not to say that there aren’t optimal times to visit, and most certainly cheaper times of the year, too. Read up on the best times, cheapest, and most popular for visiting Panama.

Weather preference.

Panama is a place of two seasons only – dry and wet. The dry season, which locals refer to as their summer, begins in December and wraps up before the end of April. That leaves April to December as the wet season, also known as the green season, and to locals, winter.

Panama City

Hardly any rainfall occurs during the dry season. On the contrary, it will rain almost daily in the wet season, though these spurts don’t always last longer than an hour.

The rainy season does have its perks, however, such as offering a break in the heat during a daily shower, and everything is a vibrant green, as opposed to during the dry season, where what’s normally green turns a bit brown because of the lack of rainfall.

Tree Trek Zipline, Boquete, Panama

When tourists flock

Panama sees the most tourists during the dry season between December and April. This is more about snowbirds in America and Europe fleeing their freezing homelands than it is about Panama’s lack of rain.

Best price possible

The wet season is best if you are traveling on a budget. Both prices and availability are best during this stretch of time.

Caribbean weather wildcard

Panama’s Caribbean side throws a wrench into the wet and dry season weather schedule. Seaside towns such as Colon, Bocas del Toro, and San Blas have their own unique weather patterns with scattered rainfall all year round.

San Blas Panama

Areas like Boquete , Chiriqui, and el Valle de Anton located in the highlands of Panama fall into the same wet and dry seasons, but they also see scattered rainstorms throughout the dry season, similar to the Caribbean towns, but not as frequent.

Just avoid November

Ultimately any time of the year is fantastic for visiting Panama with one exception: November. Not only is the rainfall the worst of all, November is also a month full of national holidays. This means locals fill up the hotels and many Panamanian businesses that are normally open take holidays themselves. In order to maximize your experience in Panama, book your stay any time of the year except during November.

With beautiful islands , Indigenous outposts, dense rainforests, cosmopolitan cities and two magnificent coasts to explore,  Panama is somewhere to linger.

But it pays to go at the right time – Panama lies just 9 degrees north of the equator, buffeted by the trade winds, meaning a tropical drenching often comes with the territory.

The best time for your trip to Panama will depend entirely on what you want to do while you're there. If you want to bask on golden sands or trek into the rainforest, visit during the dry season from December to April.

Surfers prefer the rainy months from April to December when the best waves are unleashed along the coast. Divers and wildlife spotters gather from August to September when humpback whales, sharks and orcas congregate off the Pacific shoreline.

Many locals say Panama actually has two climates – one for the Caribbean and one for the Pacific. A visit to the Caribbean Coast can be a damp experience at any time of year, though the sun usually puts in an appearance in the morning and afternoon. The Pacific Coast sees sunny skies (and peak prices) during the dry season from December to April when hordes of sun-seekers flock south from the US.

Don’t underestimate the impact of Panamanian public holidays; normal life shuts down completely for seasonal celebrations such as Día de la Independencia in November, Easter in April, and Christmas in December. Plan the best time for your visit to Panama with our seasonal guide to climate and events throughout the year.

Easter, November, Christmas and New Year are the best times for festivals

Panamanians go all out during festivals and Christian feast days, so these holidays are always a lively time to visit. Locals flock to the coast in big family groups and beaches can be mobbed. Arrive early to stake out a patch of sand.

Plan your travel well ahead of time for any public holiday – hotel prices can rise to double the normal rate, and transport is often booked out weeks in advance.

Panama is warm year round, but temperatures creep even higher from December, peaking around Easter when daytime highs of 32ºC (90ºF) are common. Plan to be somewhere near the ocean or a waterfall if you visit in March or April.

Surfers are still enjoying swells on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts in March, and if Easter falls in the same month, things can get very busy. Semana Santa celebrations blaze a trail through Panama in the week before Easter with processions and re-enactments of the crucifixion held all over the country. As April rolls on tourist numbers dwindle, meaning lower prices and less competition for space.

Note that Easter coincides with spring break , when North American students join the tourist throng, adding to the demand for accommodations and transport.

Don't expect to get much done in Panama in November – the whole country takes off to celebrate multiple independence-related festivals from both Spain and Colombia, such as Colón Day and Día de la Independencia. Panama City empties out and beaches fill up, but there’s still plenty of rain and it can be torrential at times.

The warm-up for the Christmas holidays impacts travel right through December. Locals move around the country in huge numbers, and tourists start to flock in from elsewhere, particularly North Americans seeking winter sunshine. Christmas itself sees maximum demand and peak prices.

With dry season and tourist season at their peaks, January is a big month for travel in Panama, particularly in beach areas. The weather creates prime conditions for kitesurfing, with Pacific temperatures at their warmest and consistent breezes along the coast. The mountain town of Boquete is filled with people and blooms for its flowers and coffee festival, and music fills the streets of Panama City during the Panama Jazz Festival .

Warm, dry weather keeps tourists coming to the Pacific Coast well into February, and the Caribbean Coast also sees plenty of visitors. Depending on the timing of Ash Wednesday, February can be one of the busiest times of the year as the carnival rolls into Panama City.

Mid-December and mid-April are the best times for dry weather

The prime time to visit Panama is during the dry season, but you’ll have to share the experience. Beach areas are swamped by local and international visitors from Christmas through Easter. Savvy travelers mix up time on the coast with trips to explore the rainforests in the interior.

Be aware that “dry season” is a relative term in Panama. While the Pacific Coast – Panama City and anywhere south of the continental divide – basks under sunny skies, the highlands and Caribbean Coast still get some showers.

This is the busiest time for hiking in Boquete and exploring the San Blas Archipelago, but the wind can reduce visibility for snorkelers.

With the flood of winter sun-seekers, expect lots of competition for rooms, transport and space on the beach all over Panama. Prices are high everywhere and hotel rates are not far off the festival peak throughout the dry season.

Mid-April to early December is the best time for budget travelers

The rainy season is the quietest and cheapest time to visit Panama, but you’ll get wet. There are regular rain showers, some of them torrential, but it doesn’t rain all day, every day – you’ll still get a daily dose of vitamin D.

With sporadic, refreshing rain showers, the weather is generally pleasant throughout Panama in May. This is the start of the five- to six-month nesting season for loggerhead and green sea turtles on the Caribbean coast and is the best time to visit if you'd like to observe them in the wild.

Humidity soars in June and July, and rain showers grow more frequent with regular thunderstorms. Tourist numbers are low, and so are prices, and the worst rains are still several months away. Devils hit the streets for Corpus Christi, mixing up Catholic tradition with Panamanian customs, and music and dancing light up Santa Catalina as the locals celebrate the Fiesta de Virgen del Carmen.

The rainy season coincides with the best swells on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, attracting plenty of surfers. August and September are also the prime months to visit  Parque Nacional Coiba and the Archipiélago de Las Perlas for sightings of sharks, whales or orcas.

This is a time to travel strategically; in late October and early November, the rain can be unrelenting, so it pays to be based somewhere with plenty of things to do indoors. On the flip side, crowds dissipate and prices drop to affordable levels across the country.

Bucking the national trend, September and October are the driest months to visit the  Bocas del Toro islands. There's also the opportunity to enjoy the festival of the sea, Feria Internacional del Mar, celebrated with folk music and a feast of seafood in September. In October, Panamanians celebrate regional fairs, such as Isla Tigre in San Blas. In Portobelo, the Festival del Cristo Negro attracts thousands of devout pilgrims from all over the country to pay penance and party.

Scuba diving is a year-round activity, including during the rainy season, but land-based activities can be trickier. During the rainiest months, travel can be almost impossible in parts of the highlands.

'Not up for debate': Panama City Beach police warn spring breakers of zero tolerance

P ANAMA CITY BEACH − Local law enforcement officials are warning the last wave of spring breakers still in the area to be on their best behavior.

In response to large crowds of unruly high-school-aged spring breakers recently gathering near Pineapple Willy's Restaurant and Pier Park, officials with the Panama City Beach Police Department made multiple posts on the department's Facebook page this week about the strict consequences for criminal behavior.

"To the parents of teenagers visiting Panama City Beach for spring break ... (we) need to make something perfectly clear," a post from Tuesday reads. "It is imperative that you contact your children immediately and inform them that unless they start treating our community with the respect they would their own homes, we will be compelled to find them a temporary home in our detention facility."

The Beach Police warned such parents that if they rented a condo for their children, leaving them unsupervised during their stay, they can be held responsible for any property damages.

"Should you harbor any doubts about your teenager's capacity to make responsible decisions while in our city, it may be time to retrieve them," the post reads. "If your teenager arrived with the misconception that this is an opportunity for unrestrained behavior and that leniency will be extended, they are mistaken, and allowing them to come unsupervised was a misjudgment."

As of about noon Wednesday, the single post had more than 3,000 reactions, approximately 1,200 comments and more than 6,000 shares.

Beach Police officials also highlighted the trouble such spring breakers are causing in Walton County, Bay County's western neighbor. A recent post on the Walton County Sheriff's Office Facebook page noted the county suspended "until further notice" a portion of beach access from County 283 South to the Bay County line.

It also said Walton's law enforcement officials, who anticipate an influx of teenagers April 1-5, plan "to aggressively target large crowds of unaccompanied minors and prevent them from gathering in large groups on the sand in Santa Rosa Beach."

In another Beach Police Facebook post of Tuesday, officials reminded residents and visitors that the temporary beach closure in PCB from beach access 25 to beach access 36 remains in effect until the end of April. The anticipated crowds this week also led them to close Pier Park Drive until Monday.

"We are committed to ensuring the safety and order of our community, especially during this busy spring break period," the post reads. "Roadway takeovers, public disorder or any disruption will not be tolerated. ... To all teenagers eyeing Panama City Beach − your cooperation is not up for debate.

"Any disregard for our rules will be met with firm action. This is more than just compliance. It's about respect for our community."

PCB Police controlling Spring Break Crowds

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Panama City Beach is dealing with an influx of large unsupervised teen crowds on the sandy beach.

Panama City Beach Police Chief J.R. Talamantez said the teens are creating chaos.

“They congregate together in one small location, and they’ll get in fights,” Talamantez said. “Some of them are using drugs, some of them are drinking alcohol or some of them are doing all three.”

Spring break is in full force but so are local law enforcement officials. Over at Pineapple Willy’s dozens of deputies and officers stood on patrol Wednesday as teens swarmed the beach one after the other.

The kids are underage and unaccompanied something the police chief said is a problem.

“Parents, if you dropped your teenager off in Panama City Beach and left for whatever reason turn around and come get them,” the police chief said. “If you are here and you are allowing them to visit our beach and not checking in on them, check in on them, and if you rented a lodging establishment for them knowing that you are not permitted to do that and you are going to leave them in there unsupervised, retrieve your children immediately.”

Tuesday officials also dealt with a large crowd which prompted Talamantez to issue a message on Facebook warning parents and teens that every illegal action has a consequence.

Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford said the sheriff’s office is standing with the department and criminal activity will not be tolerated in Bay County.

“We expect people to obey the law,” Ford said. “Respect our community like they would respect their own community and parents need to be responsible for their children.”

Local law enforcement said they will continue to have units patrolling throughout the rest of the week.
