Looking for a shop manual for a 1989 safari scout 377 I wouldn't mind having a look at different years too - as I'm sure a lot of things would apply. Let me know if anyone has any PDF files they'd like to share!

Where can I find the Operator's Guide?

A printed operator's guide is included with each and every Ski-Doo snowmobile. It is generally carried in the glove box or storage compartment of the sled, generally an area inside a latched door above the dash or display gauge. On some older models it is carried in the underside of the seat. All Ski-Doo owner's guide can also be found HERE on the Ski-Doo website and additional paper copies can also be ordered.

1990 Skidoo Safari 377

I picked up a 1990 skidoo safari 377 ,i mainly plan on using it for trail riding and just having fun are these good reliable little sleds?I'm a sled newbie and it seems like the perfect sled to start on..

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the a arm Safaris weren't 1 of Ski-doo's stellar products. My father had 1 & it wasn't the best handling sled. Top heavy in my books. He was always tipping it over. He switched to an Indy Trail around '95 & it was a vast improvement. No problems w/it. Doing some comparisons before he bought the Poo, he found that the handlebar & seat heights of the Safari were taller than the Trail. Also, the Safari's ski stance was narrower than the Trail.

yeah mine has seen hell in the last 2000kms and she never burped untill the oil injection quit working...so if i was you keep useing the oil injection and just add little oil to every tank....better to let it smoke a little more then have to rebuild the engine like me...I know I will be adding oil every time from now on

True there is a adjustment and I riched mine out for the last 1000kms...

1989 Ski-doo Safari

I have a 1989 Safari. 377cc. I get it too start and run a bit...it wont run fast enuff to engage the clutch. Then it slowly bogs down and dies at full throttle. I did a compression test by taking out both plugs. Pulling cord 3 times. Pressure hit 113 Avg on both cylinders. It does get fuel...the primer spits it out too. I have no idea. Rings? Clean carb?  

my friend has a 1990 safari 377 and he dosn't take care of it at all, its not in good shape the cowl is cracked and the suspention is toast but the motor never dies or has any problems with it its a great ice fishing machine...but it sounds like you need to clean the carbs... here is a pic of his safari.. everthing on this sled is held together by bungy chords..hood..and both a-arms! but it has electric start that works! Connor.

I took the heads off. Didnt see any leaks thru gaskets. I took carb off but appears to be 100% clean. I wonder if there is a way to see if its running too rich etc... Or pumping more oil into it then needed. It's oil injected. Pumping the primer shoots gas out of the lines properly. I assume its not a blockage etc. I really desperately need a manual on how to repair this machine. Like setting the carb jets etc.... If anyone has one can ya scan and send? Or mail whatever I can pay postage for it...lemme know please. Heres the thing. Not playing on anything. My dad just got diagnosed with heavy cancer in his right lung. Last year he had his left lung removed. I dont think he can walk this winter. He dont own a sled. I want to bring this to him to let him be able to fish this winter. He has a terminal condition. I hate cancer. At any rate... I must get this running properly for the winter for him. Thanks.  

Okay... could you take a picture or look at your freinds machine. Specifically, on the body you see a small fuel pump with hoses coming in and out of it. Now down farther there is a small aluminum square thing. It has a wire harness coming out of it. Also a small post in the center of it.... would be approx. 2" square...could you find out what that part is for? The wire harness leaving it had 2 yellow wires crimped by the motor. There was bare wire touching the snowmachine body. Depending on what that thing is...I wonder if it would cause the above problem?  

Sounds like you have a spark issue on one cylinder. The square thing is the voltage regulator, it controls power to the lights, etc. but not engine power. Are the plugs all wet with fuel? Put new plugs in and try again.  

I found reference to a certain plug that runs hotter on the net... What plugs you recommend then? Yes the plugs were wet. There seems to be a build up of oil in the exhaust as well. Probably due to misfiring condition. That little voltage regulator has a harness coming out of it. The wire casing is wore thru..and was touching the body. What effect would this have?  

i have a set of NGK iritiums... they work fantastic on our sleds..  

NGK BR8EYA spark plugs These are the plugs I read about.  

Like I said, it would affect the lights and guages, but not the engine. Replace the plugs with factory originals,, BR9es. A hotter plug will NOT solve your problem.  

it sounds like she may be dumping gas so i would reajust the jets while it is all apart.  

take a zip tie or something and crimp the primer lines, lots of times the primers go bad and cause several issues, before you go tearing into anything eliminate the primer as the cause. if the sled runs good with the lines plugged go buy a new primer.  

I have the same problem with my 86 safari 377 when it i very cold -25 C or colder runs perfect but when it worms up it goes on 1 cylander only new plugs installed compression is 114 on each cyl. new coil for plugs I think it may be the bearing on the clutch side since this side doesn't fire well when warmed up. any opinions guys awpp

thanks thanks small engine think it is a carb problem had runing for 1/2 hour and seem to get littlebetter order boot for air chamber and wil take carb off when come in and clean til then tryin carb cleaner and de icer if water thanks found the link that i wanted on one your old post thanks again talk later  

I have a 89 377 it was doing the same thing, I believe it could be your ignition coil. If its sparking off then its not lighting the mixture like it should, and all the fuel isn't being burned properly, this would cause your plugs to be wet with fuel and have issues running. Mine started idled fine, but would die down and eventually lost spark, until i replaced the coil. I would start there and see if it fixes your issue

I got the same problem with my 89 377 gets up to 25 then bogs out I've cleaned the carbs twice wonder if it's getting to much fuel. What do you guys recommend for carb settings?

1988/89 ski doo safari 377

Im new to the forum and i have a couple of questions. I was given this sled and i dont know if its a 1988 or 1989. it runs good for the age but it looks really ugly. Does anyone know where I can find the same hood or a different hood that will bolt right on thats in decent condition? And my second question, the previous owner disconnected the oil injection. Is it worth reconnecting? If yes, how would i do this. thanks for any help.  

I have an 83 and 84, and they are ugly. But anyway, look on the tunnel tag, should be mid=way down the right, I think. If it says manufactured in 88, then it's an 89. Look at ebay or a snowmobile salvage yard for a new cowl. And the first question on the oil injection is why did he disconnect it? Was it broken? The main question is, how important to you is oil injection (i.e. just driving up to a gas pump)? Hope this helps.  

I'd be careful reconnecting the oil injection. If the previous owner just pulled the oil supply line and left the pump on the engine, than I'll bet the pump is toast.  

well i have been mixing. You guys make a great point he probably did disconnect it because there was a problem. I dont mind at all mixing but just to be sure what is the exact mixture needed? I have been running 40:1. And also is there any different cowls that will bolt right up from a newer sled?? by the way it is a 1989. Thanks rotaxrage and butters_mcfeely for your help.  

I would mix the gas 50:1. 40:1 seems a little much, but it is not a huge deal. As far as the hood goes, any hood from a Safari 89 or older should work and there are probably others from that same vintage (maybe the citation???). In 1990 they redesigned the front end of the Safaris and those will not fit on your sled. A great website to go to for cross reference is http://216.37.204.206/ingles/Skidoo_oem/skidoo.asp they have microfiches of all the skidoo sleds from 1987 to 2003. Take a look on there and you may find some other cowls that you could use.
