The first casting for the upcoming international arena tour of  Les Misérables has been revealed, with the event set to be led by some of the long-running musical's most distinguished alumni.

Sharing the role of Jean Valjean will be Alfie Boe and Killian Donnelly , while Javert will be handled by Michael Ball and Bradley Jaden. Boe, Donnelly, Ball, and Jaden have only been announced for the tour's U.K. stops, though the production is expected to come to North America in 2025. Additional casting is to be announced.

The tour is set to launch from SSE Arena Belfast September 19, with further dates planned in Glasgow, Sheffield, Aberdeen, Manchester, and Newcastle. Next up on the manifest are engagements in Sweden, Australia, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea.

"The spectacular world arena tour of the Les Misérables concert has been a dream of mine for many years," says producer Cameron Mackintosh. "With Les Mis ' 40th phenomenal year starting this October, there couldn't be a better time for it to happen. ... Many other favorite Les Misérables performers, chosen from all over the world, will be announced in a few weeks’ time. After the U.K., the world tour will play many cities across Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Korea, Japan, and several other Asian cities before it returns to Europe and beyond."

The new tour has been crafted for arenas and large theatres with audiences between 3,000 and 5,000, and will feature a U.K. company of more than 65 actors and orchestra members.

An arena tour for a musical is rare, but not unprecedented. Rock operas Jesus Christ Superstar and The Who's Tommy both played arenas in their heyday, and an arena tour of Broadway's ill-fated Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark was initially expected to follow the Main Stem run.

Les Misérables is written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg and is based on the novel by Victor Hugo . It has music by Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer , original French text by Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel , additional material by James Fenton , and an adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird . Following a French production in 1980, the English translation premiered via Royal Shakespeare Company in 1985, transferring to London's West End later the same year and to Broadway in 1987. The musical became one of a string of British-originating musical juggernauts, becoming the West End's longest-running musical and one of Broadway's longest-running shows as well. The original London production closed in 2019, reopening with an updated physical production and staging later the same year. The musical's longtime West End home, the Queen's Theatre, hosted Les Misérables The Staged Concert , on which this arena spectacular is based, in the interim between the two productions.

Concert presentations have been a big part of Les Misérables ' legacy throughout its history, including filmed anniversary concerts in 1995 and 2010. Les Misérables The Staged Concert was also filmed and broadcast to movie theatres internationally. A feature film adaptation starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, and Eddie Redmayne was released in 2012 and earned a Best Picture nomination at the 2013 Academy Awards. The film version will be back in movie theatres with re-mixed sound and remastered visuals beginning February 23.

Cameron Mackintosh

With the fully staged production of LES MISÉRABLES reopen in London alongside HAMILTON, MARY POPPINS and THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA now lockdown restrictions have been lifted, and with LES MISÉRABLES and OLIVER! due to open in Tokyo over the next few months followed by MISS SAIGON in Austria and MARY POPPINS in Tokyo and Sydney next year, Cameron remains the world’s most prolific producer of musicals, with over 50 shows either on or in pre-production internationally.

Cameron’s Original productions include LES MISÉRABLES, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and CATS – the three longest running musicals of all time, now in their 4 th decades – MISS SAIGON, MARY POPPINS (co-produced with Disney), LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, SONG AND DANCE, TOMFOOLERY, MARTIN GUERRE, THE WITHCES OF EASTWICK, FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE and SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM. He also reinvented modern versions of OLIVER!, FOLLIES, HALF A SIXPENCE, BARNUM and MY FAIR LADY. His new versions of LES MISÉRABLES, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, MISS SAIGON and OLIVER! are now proving as successful as the original productions.

In 2013, alongside Working Title Films and Universal, Cameron produced the hugely successful Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA award-winning film adaptation of LES MISÉRABLES which is the most successful movie ever of an original stage musical.

The sold-out staged concert of LES MISÉRABLES at the Gielgud Theatre in 2019 was also broadcast live to over 600 cinemas and is now the highest grossing one-night live event performance of all time – a unique achievement in the history of Musical Theatre and has enjoyed another successful five month season at the Sondheim, despite having a five month hiatus due to Covid.

Cameron owns and operates eight historic London theatres which have all been spectacularly rebuilt and refurbished for the 21 st century. They house many of London’s successful hits. The Sondheim, formerly known as the Queen’s, has been rebuilt and renamed in honour of Cameron’s great friend, theatrical legend Stephen Sondheim.

Music Theatre International, the world’s largest owner of secondary rights of many of the greatest musicals ever written, is now one of Cameron’s companies.

Cameron was knighted in the 1996 New Year’s Honours for his services to British theatre and he is the first British producer to be elected to Broadway’s Theater Hall of Fame. In 1990, Cameron inaugurated the Chair of Contemporary Theatre at St. Catherine’s College in Oxford University, with Stephen Sondheim as his visiting professor. He is also the president of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Following Belfast, the production will play limited dates at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena 3–6 October, Sheffield’s Utilita Arena 10-13 October and Aberdeen’s P&J Live 17 – 20 October. The Tour will then commence its European leg in Luxembourg from 25 - 27 October, followed by Geneva, Trieste, Milan, Copenhagen, Oslo and Zurich. Its final UK dates will be in Manchester at the AO Arena 26 - 29 December and at the Utilita Arena, Newcastle 2 – 5 January 2025 before moving on to Sweden, Australia, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.

Cameron Mackintosh said today “I’m thrilled to announce the initial venues where this spectacular production of Les Misérables will run. This much anticipated world tour will be a unique opportunity for many celebrated performers to play their favourite roles for short periods in different parts of the world, so fans will get the chance to see their favourite stars (and mine!) in their favourite musical. Over the show’s nearly 40 years existence, it has also proved to be the launch pad for an extraordinary list of stars around the world, in many different languages and countries. Both the show and the score of Les Mis continues to win poll after poll around the world as the public’s favourite musical of all time containing so many of the most memorable and beloved songs ever written for the musical theatre. The euphoria of the cast reunion performances of Miz are legendary and always prove a sell-out so I look forward to this unique event being the ultimate demonstration of Do You Hear The People Sing ever!”

The World Tour begins as the stage musical enters its 39th revolutionary year and will run throughout the upcoming 40thanniversary celebrations for the world’s longest running musical in 2025. After which it is planned to play North and South America.

LES MISÉRABLES THE ARENA SPECTACULAR will be expanded from the hugely successful Les Mis é rables The Staged Concert which played for over 200 record-breaking performances in the West End. It will have an extraordinary new design specifically created for arenas (and large theatres) with audiences of between 3,000 – 5,000. This spectacular production will have a UK company of over 110 actors, musicians and crew featuring a core cast with a great number of celebrated Les Mis guest stars appearing as their schedules allow.

Nick Grace is one of the World’s leading producers and general managers of international touring productions and in the last 25 years has presented shows in 59 countries worldwide including BATMAN LIVE – World Arena Tour, WALKING WITH DINOSAURS – The Arena Spectacular, BLUE MAN GROUP World Tour and the ongoing MAMMA MIA! UK & International Tour.

The critically acclaimed production of Les Misérables continues to play at the Sondheim Theatre, where it will soon be celebrating its 39th revolutionary year, and several other local language productions around the world. To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Oscar-winning movie, a remastered and remixed version was released in 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital in September.

Louise Stewart, Head of Entertainment, Exhibitions and Marketing says “Aberdeen, get ready to hear the people sing… We are ecstatic to welcome one of the world’s favourite musicals ‘Les Misérables The Arena Spectacular World Tour’ to P&J Live in 2024. With the people of the north-east getting not one but five incredible shows of this amazing adapted production for the big stage – it will be spectacular with a score of iconic songs!”

Stephen Sondheim wrote a song called There's No Place Like London – but was he right?

While the West End is undoubtedly the birthplace of musicals (sorry Broadway, but it's true), we can't help but notice that most major shows have outgrown their London home and moved out over the last few years.

From renowned classics like The Wizard of Oz and Chicago to more recent hits like Dear Evan Hansen, many shows are making their way across the country on tour.

This recent upswing in travelling musicals can only be considered a good thing as, instead of spending your weekends buying expensive train tickets into town, you can find a top quality West End show right on your doorstep.

Most of these touring shows also bring big names to your local area, like Michael Ball and Alfie Boe in Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular or Strictly Come Dancing's Johannes Radebe in Kinky Boots .

More like this

Plus, seats are bound to be cheaper - as we've covered in our how to get cheap theatre tickets piece, the cost of West End performances has gone up massively in the past few years.

Not convinced? That's OK, you can still take a look at our guide to the best West End shows . But otherwise, here are the best musicals to see on tour.

Moscow/Zelenograd and New Moscow

arena tour les miserables

  • 1.1 By plane

  • 4 Events, Festivals

Zelenograd and New Moscow are two large parts of Moscow city, that lie (often far) outside consolidated residential zone of the city, which lies within and just beyond the MKAD (Moscow Ring Road).

Zelenograd was added in Moscow in 1968 as one of the leading scientific centers. New Moscow was added to Moscow in 2012, forming Novomoskovky and Troitskiy Administrativniy Okrugs with plans of new vast expansion. New Moscow territory is yet to change according to its new city status. Even though suburbial kind construction intensifies in Novomoskovsky Administrativniy Okrug, Troitskiy Administrativniy Okrug still mostly has a rural feel.

By plane [ edit ]

Vnukovo and Ostafyevo airports are situated in New Moscow proper, though from Ostafyevo airport you still have to go through the "old" Moscow. It is possible to get from Sheremetyevo to Zelenograd without going to the old city - you have to change to 400 minibus on Leningrad highway or on local train on Planernaya. From Domodedovo airport you'll have to go through the old city anyway (the route through Domodedovo and Podolsk will take more time).

By train [ edit ]

Local trains connect Zelenograd with Leningrad Train Station, Tver, Klin and Konakovo. Local trains from Kiev Train Station pass through northern part of New Moscow between Novoperedelkino and Krekshino. To go to Zosimova Pustyn you may want to go all the way to Bekasovo, but trains there are infrequent. It is possible to get to New Moscow through Podolsk, but you'll have to change to bus there.

By bus [ edit ]

Most frequent bus to Zelenograd is bus 400 from Rechnoi Vokzal. It has special pricing. Buses are primary way of public transport to get to New Moscow, new buses are often added. Most buses start from Yugo-Zapadnaya and Tepliy Stan metroes, and Podolsk train station. Troitsk serves as a bus hub.

By car [ edit ]
