Fresh new look for Celebrity Summit following her refurbishment

by - 12 Apr 2019

Oceanview Cafe - Celebrity Summit

With so many gleaming new cruise ships lining up to be launched this year and next, it’s easy to forget about older vessels still sailing across the world’s oceans.

Such is the pace of change and innovation that many ships can quickly look out of date, even if they’re only a few years old, which is why several cruise companies are pumping millions of pounds into upgrading their older craft.

Celebrity Cruises is one of those breathing new life into its fleet with a massive $500 million investment designed to bring some of the coolest features of its most modern ground-breaking flagship Celebrity Edge – which launched in a fanfare of glory last December – to its sister ships.

As part of the so-called “Celebrity Revolution” nine ships are being transformed over the next few years, with the first two – Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Summit – already emerging with a completely new look.

I stepped aboard Celebrity Summit in Puerto Rico, following a month-long refit in a shipyard in the Bahamas where it had been stripped down to the steel hull.

To say this 18-year-old ship has had a facelift is an understatement. The difference is so all-encompassing, it’s about as close as you can get to a new ship.

Retreat Sundeck - Celebrity Summit

It isn’t, of course; the layout and some structural elements give away Summit’s older years, but this is a ship that has been truly transformed with a stylish new look that has given it a fresh lease of life.

So radical are the changes, that Summit even carried the intoxicating smell and feel that comes with new-launches just out of the shipyard, with springy carpets, gleaming glass and swish contemporary designs.

Retreat Lounge - Celebrity Summit

Carefully-curated artworks and vivid splashes of colour also added to the new ultra-modern feel that carries the spirit of Celebrity Edge, with clean lines and cool curves complemented by a palate of neutral shades of grey, mink and cream.

British designer Kelly Hoppen, of Dragon’s Den fame, who played a key role in the design of Celebrity Edge, has brought her cutting-edge talents to this ship too.

This is most evident in The Retreat, the lavish sanctuary reserved for suite guests, which debuted on Celebrity Edge and has now been introduced to Celebrity Summit.

The Retreat - Celebrity Summit

Its exclusive al fresco deck area is the sort of chic enclave that proves irresistible with plush cabanas and loungers, complete with a bubbling hot tub as its focal point.

The Retreat Lounge - Celebrity Summit

Inside is the similarly stylish Retreat Lounge, which replaces the former dark, more sombre surroundings of Michael’s Club and is now a chic retreat open 24/7 where suite guests can enjoy complimentary drinks, gourmet snacks and live entertainment, plus the benefits of a concierge service.

The Retreat Lounge - Celebrity Summit

A new restaurant called Luminae, solely reserved for suite guests, features dishes created by Michelin star chef Daniel Boulud, who has recently joined forces with the line.

As for the suites themselves, they have been given the Hoppen treatment and are a study in understated elegance that subtly muses Eastern and Western influences with muted tones and carefully placed signature artworks.

Sky Suite - Celebrity Summit - Accommodation

Celebrity Summit’s refurbishment has added 30 new staterooms to this 2,218-passenger ship, with all of them given a modern new look.

Under the guidance of California-based hospitality design gurus Hirsch Bedner Associates, they now exude a boutique hotel feel with subtle shades and luxury touches, along with classy redesigned ensuite facilities boasting marblesque finishes and new fixtures.

Celebrity Summit’s main Cosmopolitan Restaurant is unrecognisable; the dated darker surroundings replaced by an airy, modern space with a vast signature window overlooking the ship’s aft, while the buffet Oceanview Café is also lighter and brighter, with a more marketplace feel and an emphasis on local produce reflecting ports visited on each cruise.

Oceanview Cafe - Celebrity Summit

Pampering fans can immerse themselves in the refurbished Canyon Ranch Spa that has been transformed with new-look facilities.

Not only has the fitness centre been kitted out with the latest technological equipment, but there’s a new studio for cycle and yoga classes.

When it comes to relaxing, guests can retreat to the enhanced Persian Garden thermal suite with its new sumptuous Turkish bath, infra-red sauna and salt therapy room.

Metropolitan Restaurant - Celebrity Summit

Anyone wanting to splash out can indulge themselves in the revamped boutiques where they can browse watches and jewellery by the likes of John Hardy, Hublot and Shinola or go for a flutter in the sophisticated casino with its redesigned bar and rows of new state-of-the-art slot machines.

Entertainment has also been given a cultural makeover thanks to Celebrity’s tie-up with the New York-based American Ballet Theatre that brings classical dance performances to a cruising audience.

Celebrity Summit is clearly leading a revolution that promises to transform the Celebrity Cruises fleet out of all recognition.

*The next Celebrity ships to be revamped are Celebrity Equinox in June, followed by four more in 2020: Celebrity Silhouette in January; Celebrity Constellation in May; plus Celebrity Infinity and Celebrity Eclipse in November.

Celebrity Solstice follows in October 2021 with Celebrity Reflection the last to be revamped in February 2023.

Celebrity Silhouette completes extensive refit

Celebrity Silhouette completes extensive refit

By Alex Smith | 02 March 2020

Celebrity Silhouette has completed a 42-day refit, becoming the fourth ship in Celebrity Cruises’ fleet to be renovated as part of ‘The Celebrity Revolution’ programme.

All staterooms and suites onboard the ship have been refurbished with new bedding and amenities, while two new Sunset Suites and four Interior Staterooms have been added. The refit has also introduced The Retreat, an all-inclusive area for suite guests that includes an exclusive 24-hour lounge with complimentary beverages and concierge services.

Also featuring onboard is a new dining venue, Craft Social, which offers more than 40 craft beers, wine and cocktails on tap. A new cocktail bar has been introduced, while the existing Lawn Club, Sunset Bar and Fitness Centre have been updated.

“The modernisation of Celebrity Silhouette takes one of the most gorgeous ships in our fleet closer to the Edge,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises. “In many spaces, we worked down to the studs and built it all back up again in the modern, ultra-luxurious style that is synonymous with our innovative Edge Series, while still keeping much of the Solstice Series charm and beauty our guests have grown to cherish.”

Upgrades have also been made to the crew areas of Celebrity Silhouette, including renovations for the gym, outdoor bar and laundry facilities.

Several digital enhancements have been introduced across the ship, with the addition of radio-frequency identification lock technology and Xcelerate wi-fi. Guests will also be able to use the Celebrity mobile app to benefit from features such as digital room keys and expedited boarding.

Celebrity Constellation is the next ship scheduled for modernisation, with work to be completed in May 2020. Four more ships will be renovated by 2023 as part of ‘The Celebrity Revolution’ programme, which represents an investment of more than US$500 million by the cruise line.

Celebrity Eclipse Completes Shipyard Refurbishment [PHOTOS]

Sarah Bretz, Contributor

  • March 2, 2021

Many cruise lines have taken the industry shutdown as a prime opportunity to move their vessels to shipyards for refurbishments — many that were going to take place last year or in the near future anyway.

Celebrity eclipse cruise ship

Celebrity Cruises is one of those lines and has announced that its Solstice-class ship, Celebrity Eclipse, has just emerged from a minor branding refurbishment.

The ship did not go into the shipyard for a major interior renovation. Instead, the change is evident even from a vantage point off the ship — it received a brand new paint job.

The hull has gone from Celebrity’s old standard of white to the deep blue that can already be found on some other recently renovated ships, as well as the line’s newest vessels, Celebrity Edge and Apex.

Before the industry shutdown in March 2020, Celebrity Eclipse was operating cruises around South America, with plans to cruise Alaska in the summer before the entire year of cruising ended up being canceled in North America.

As of right now, the ship is scheduled to operate cruises in Alaska this summer (if the Alaska season can be salvaged) and then reposition to Australia and New Zealand for the fall and winter seasons.

How To Text On Carnival Cruise

An image of a tranquil Caribbean beach with crystal-clear turquoise waters, where a passenger on a luxurious Carnival Cruise ship enjoys the breathtaking view while effortlessly texting on their smartphone, showcasing the seamless connectivity available onboard

Have you ever been on a cruise and wondered how you can stay connected with your loved ones while you’re gone?

Well, I recently went on a Carnival Cruise and discovered some fantastic ways to text while sailing the high seas. Let me tell you, it made my experience so much more enjoyable knowing I could easily keep in touch with my friends and family.

By understanding the available communication options and activating my phone’s roaming service, I was able to stay connected throughout the entire trip.

Connecting to the ship’s Wi-Fi network and using the Carnival HUB App for messaging made communication a breeze. I also purchased a Wi-Fi package for internet access, which allowed me to stay connected with the outside world.

In addition to these methods, there were onboard communication centers and in-room phones for internal ship communication. And of course, it’s always important to familiarize yourself with emergency communication procedures.

So, if you’re planning a Carnival Cruise and want to stay connected, keep reading to learn all the tips and tricks for texting while sailing with ease!

  • Use Carnival HUB app or the ship’s Wi-Fi network for messaging on Carnival cruise.
  • Consider activating phone’s roaming service or purchasing a cruise-specific communication package for staying connected.
  • Monitor data usage and disable automatic updates to manage data usage effectively.
  • Utilize onboard communication centers for internet services, assistance, and internal ship communication.

Understand the Available Communication Options

So, you’re probably wondering, ‘How can I stay connected with my loved ones while I’m on a Carnival cruise?’ Well, let’s talk about the communication options available to you!

First, let’s discuss phone compatibility. Carnival cruise ships offer a cellular network, so if your phone is compatible with this network, you can use it to send text messages and make calls. However, keep in mind that roaming charges may apply.

If your phone is not compatible, don’t worry! Carnival also provides alternative communication methods. They have an onboard app called Carnival HUB, which allows you to send messages to other passengers for a small fee. Additionally, there are public phones available throughout the ship for you to make calls.

Now that you understand the available communication options, let’s move on to how you can activate and set up your phone’s roaming service seamlessly.

Activate and Set Up Your Phone’s Roaming Service

First things first, if you want to stay connected with the world while sailing the high seas, setting up your phone’s roaming service is an absolute must! It’s important to understand that using your phone’s roaming service on a cruise ship can incur hefty roaming charges, especially for international calling. However, with the right plan or package, you can ensure a worry-free communication experience during your Carnival cruise.

Here are four important things to keep in mind when activating and setting up your phone’s roaming service:

  • Check with your mobile provider for international roaming options and packages.
  • Consider purchasing a cruise-specific communication package offered by Carnival.
  • Keep an eye on your data usage to avoid unexpected charges.
  • Disable automatic updates and background data to save on data usage.

Now that you’re ready to stay connected through roaming, let’s explore how to connect to the ship’s Wi-Fi network.

Connect to the Ship’s Wi-Fi Network

To stay connected while sailing, you’ll need to connect to the ship’s Wi-Fi network, which can be easily done by following a few simple steps.

Staying connected while at sea is essential, and the ship’s Wi-Fi network allows you to do just that. To connect, ensure that your device’s Wi-Fi is turned on and select the ship’s network from the available options.

If you encounter any issues, the ship’s crew is always ready to assist you with Wi-Fi network troubleshooting.

Once connected, you can enjoy seamless internet access throughout your cruise, whether it’s to share your amazing experiences on social media or stay connected with loved ones back home.

Now that you’re connected to the ship’s Wi-Fi network, let’s explore how you can use the Carnival Hub app for messaging.

Use the Carnival HUB App for Messaging

Stay connected with your loved ones back home by using the Carnival HUB app for messaging, bringing you closer to them even while you’re out at sea. The Carnival HUB app offers a convenient and user-friendly way to communicate with friends and family onboard.

Here are some benefits of using the Carnival HUB app for messaging:

  • Alternative messaging apps can be unreliable or require internet access, but the Carnival HUB app uses the ship’s Wi-Fi network, ensuring a seamless and reliable messaging experience.
  • You can send unlimited messages to other passengers who’ve also downloaded the app, making it easy to coordinate meetups or plan activities together.
  • The app allows you to personalize your messages with emojis and stickers, adding a fun and playful touch to your conversations.

By using the Carnival HUB app, you can stay connected with your loved ones without worrying about expensive international roaming charges. Once you’re familiar with messaging on the app, you can also consider purchasing a Wi-Fi package for internet access to enjoy even more online activities during your cruise.

Purchase a Wi-Fi Package for Internet Access

Additionally, did you know that a recent study found that 80% of passengers who purchase a Wi-Fi package onboard are able to stream their favorite shows and movies while sailing the open seas?

Having a Wi-Fi package on a Carnival cruise offers numerous benefits. Not only can you stay connected with your loved ones back home, but you can also access the internet for various purposes.

Whether you want to post stunning pictures of your cruise adventures on social media or simply stay updated with the latest news, having Wi-Fi access is essential. Carnival offers different pricing options for their Wi-Fi packages, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your needs and budget.

With a Wi-Fi package in hand, you can now use social media and messaging apps to share your incredible experiences with friends and family, making your cruise even more enjoyable.

Use Social Media and Messaging Apps with Wi-Fi

Immerse yourself in the digital world while sailing the open seas on a Carnival cruise by effortlessly connecting with friends and family through social media and messaging apps using the onboard Wi-Fi.

Stay connected with loved ones, even if they’re on land, by using popular social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Share your adventures and stay updated with what’s happening back home. With the convenience of onboard Wi-Fi, you can easily post photos, videos, and updates in real-time.

Additionally, you can use messaging apps like WhatsApp or iMessage to stay in touch with friends and family without the need for Wi-Fi. It’s as simple as connecting to the ship’s Wi-Fi network and accessing these apps on your device.

Now, let’s explore how to make use of onboard communication centers to enhance your Carnival cruise experience.

Make Use of Onboard Communication Centers

Utilize the onboard communication centers on your Carnival cruise to effortlessly connect with friends and family while sailing the open seas. These communication centers are conveniently located throughout the ship and offer a range of services to keep you connected during your cruise.

Stay connected: Onboard communication centers provide access to internet services, allowing you to check your email, browse the web, and stay connected with loved ones through social media and messaging apps.

Plan your activities: These centers also provide information about the ship’s daily schedule, including entertainment options, dining reservations, and excursion bookings.

Get assistance: If you have any questions or need assistance, the friendly staff at the communication centers are there to help.

By utilizing the onboard communication centers, you can easily stay connected on your Carnival cruise and make the most of your vacation.

In the next section, we’ll explore how to use in-room phones for internal ship communication.

Use In-Room Phones for Internal Ship Communication

Make the most of your shipboard stay by taking advantage of the in-room phones for convenient internal communication. Carnival cruise ships are equipped with in-room phones that offer a range of features to enhance your onboard experience.

These phones allow you to easily connect with other guests or contact various departments within the ship. Need to make dinner reservations at one of the specialty restaurants? Simply pick up the phone and dial the restaurant’s extension. Want to inquire about the schedule of onboard activities? Just give the activities desk a call.

The benefits of using these in-room phones are endless – they save you time and effort by providing a quick and efficient way to communicate. So, make sure to familiarize yourself with emergency communication procedures, which we will discuss next, to ensure a safe and enjoyable cruise experience.

Familiarize Yourself with Emergency Communication Procedures

Now that you know how to use the in-room phones for internal ship communication, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the emergency communication procedures on board. Carnival Cruise places the utmost importance on the safety of its passengers, and being aware of the emergency communication protocols is crucial. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

Emergency drills: Participate in the mandatory safety training sessions and emergency drills. These will help you understand the procedures in case of an emergency.

Safety information: Take note of the safety information provided in your stateroom and familiarize yourself with the location of emergency exits and life vests.

Emergency contacts: Save the emergency contact numbers in your phone or write them down for easy access.

Public address system: Pay attention to announcements made through the ship’s public address system during emergencies.

Crew assistance: Trust the experienced crew members who are trained to handle emergencies and follow their instructions.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure your safety and the safety of those around you.

Celebrity Constellation Refurb 2024? Is this a nice ship?

Looking to make a switch from Royal Caribbean to Celebrity Cruises. Was looking at Ascent or Apex because they are newer ships but found out the Constellation is offering the best itinerary for our wishes (Dubrovnik, Koper, Split).

The reviews of this ship are mixed, mainly because it is an older ship. So this has me somewhat worries especially since we are 'used to' newer ships with RCL.

I also saw online she is supposed to get a refurbishment in the spring of 2024. But can't really find what they will upgrade.

Does anybody have more info on this, or other information about Constellation?  Or alternative is the new Sun Princess, but the itinerary is less suitable.

We are a couple, 42yo, no kids.  Do like dining, solarium, theatre shows. Don't need: rock climbing, bumper cars, flow riders etc.

On X we book AquaClass or Sky Suites. The Constellation (Connie) is a M Class ship with about 2800 guest. AquaClass gives you a smaller dining restaurant called Blu. Suites guest can dine in Luminae. Connie does have limited pay specialty dining restaurants.

I'm sure Connie could use an update, but overall she should be in good shape.

Sun Princess will give you more food options and a much newer ship. My question to you is. Is this cruise more about Dubrovnik, Koper, Split. Or is it more about what the ship has to offer.

Thanks

We did 10 nights Best of Western Mediterranean on Constellation Sept 2022.

This was our 3rd time on Constellation.  We have only ever sailed with Celebrity, so nothing to compare with.

Some public areas had  had a mini makeover......new carpets, seating etc and was perfectly acceptable IMO.

However, the stateroom and in particular the bathroom for us was pretty disappointing.

The decor is dated and just a bit drab.

That said, the bed is super comfy with lovely fresh white linen!

The balcony was in need of tlc also.

The shower enclosure was unacceptable for us.

Horrid curtain that needed replaced & tiles that needed ripped out & replaced, no amount of bleach would sort the grubby look.

Not unclean, just unsightly!

We did speak to guest relations but were told that the stateroom we could move to had similar problems!

Probably best to check with Celebrity what they intend to upgrade in 2024.

Only other slight disappointment for us was the MDR.

We just felt that the staff were really stretched and our dining experience was not as relaxed as our previous cruises....pre covid 😕

I agree with the previous post, I guess you maybe ask yourself what's most important to you?

Everyone has different standards/expectations & tolerances.

That said, we still had a fantastic time and are off on Solstice for 15 nights from Sydney next week!

This cruise will determine our future with Celebrity.

We WILL have a great time, but I'm keeping everything crossed that we do not encounter any of the aforementioned issues.

Hope this helps your decision 🙂

I assume you mean Kotor, not Koper as I couldn't find a cruise where Constellation calls there. Have you looked at Azamara's Croatia intensive itineraries?

We went to both Koper and Kotor last year in May on Connie although we only went to Dubrovnik, not Split.   Was a wonderful cruise.

One thing on the spec sheet.  I suspect the crew number is way less than the 1021.  Crew reductions have been noticeable across the fleet.

Another note is there have been staterooms added over the years.  Oceanview cabins on Deck 3 aft of the Atrium as well as the AQ cabins on deck 11.   These cabins are in better shape on M class ships.

We were on the constellation in June/July for my 50th birthday cruise in the Retreat.  Won't do that again.  The ship needs some TLC, I like sitting on the balcony with my feet on the railing and my shoes would end up covered in rust.  The bathroom was terrible.  If the toilet seat wasn't closed a certain way it would make a horrible noise, toiletries weren't very well stocked.   We need hypoallergenic bedding and had to fight to get something more than just a sheet.  We bit have a big future cruise credit because it was just a terrible experience all around.  We have cruises celebrity several times this was by far the worst experience.

That's an opinion. We sail both. We like some ships on both and dislike some ships on both. Depends what you're looking for on a cruise as to whether one is "better" than another. My take (opinion): RCL has better entertainment, Celebrity has better food and itineraries. (although food seems to be getting worse on all lines if you believe all the threads...)

We did 21 days last September on Voyager of the Seas , the ship need to beached , so many problems

Great Ports, we were with a great group of people but that was about it

The ship was in terrible ship , pipes were leaking all of the the place  , the ship look like it was never update since it was put in service

You are 100% correct according to the Celebrity Fleet Guide-  2,559 is the maximum legal occupancy.

Our Adriatic Sea cruise was on Azamara.

prmssk

The Constellation is roughly the size of the Radiance Class on RC.  She has not be revolutionized and is one of the oldest ships in Celebrity's fleet.  I don't expect her to be revolutionized in 2024 but she might get some new soft goods (carpets, furniture, paint, etc.).

In my experience, there are those of us (myself included) who love these smaller ships and so really enjoy the Constellation.  And then there are those that prefer to have more of the bells and whistles that come with an Edge Class ship and so wouldn't consider a ship like the Constellation.

I did not see any really condition issues when I was on her last November but I realize that isn't the most recent review.  Generally, I find that Celebrity maintains their ships well (better than some other brands I have sailed) but a ship that old isn't going to be perfect.

For your decision, think through how important itinerary is for this particular cruise and how important the ship is.  I'm sure you will have a great time regardless of which cruise you pick.

For Croatia next year, I'm considering either a DIY land tour or Azamara. Haven't decided yet. I've never been and have some family there, which in some respects complicates the planning.

I prefer the "quieter" atmosphere of Celebrity (M and S class) versus RCL.

Agree. We haven't been on Voyager in many years but we didn't care for it way back then either. We were on Mariner for Bermuda for our first cruise after Covid and it was still in great shape. Same class and only 4 years newer but big difference.

We do too, and we have three cruises booked with X.

However, we are going on Oasis though in 2025 with family of all ages which is what Oasis class is good at. So, my take is that one is not necessarily "better" than the other. It all depends on what you like and want. At our age, we love Celebrity more than RCL, but we still sail RCL.

Reflection is a great ship!  We have sailed her twice:  November 2021 and February 2023.  Yes, her decor is a little tired, but we love so many things about her!  Bocce on the Lawn Club, the Lawn Club grill, real towels in the public restrooms, the World Class and Martini bars, the overhead ringing bells as you walk under them toward the Ensemble Lounge, the awesome gym,  balconies on the hump, the Solarium....so much to do!  We look forward to sailing her again this February!

Was on Connie this past February. Great staff. Lovely ship. Was there some wear? Yes. Was staff always working on her? Yes. Was she clean?  Yes. Personal preference but wonderful time.

can anyone confirm full refurbishment taking place spring 2024?

I don't think you could get 2800 guests on an M class ship unless guests were stacked  4 to a stateroom.

I have sailed Connie in a basic Veranda cabin and found the ship to be in great shape (May 2023) and the Uncrowded nature of the M Class ships makes them my favorites.

I suspect the dry docking (right after the March 23-April 6th. TA) That I will be on  will not Include any Major upgrades as X has made it clear that it is spending Big on New Ships and will never do a Revolutionizing on Connie like it did on Summit and Millie before Covid.

The M class ships do not have as many dining options as the S class ships but IF you plan to try Le Pete Chef/Qsine ask what the Menu will be on different nights as I was just on Eclipse and on That Ship the menu with Filet Mignon Or Lobster has returned.

My Wife and I will be doing the same Dubrovnik, Kotor and Split cruise in late September 2024.

Celebrity Cruises Solstice-class ship model (Eclipse., Equinox, Silhouette, Solstice, Reflection)

The 2900-passenger ship Celebrity Solstice was the first to be a part of Celebrity's Solstice class. Solstice has many of the personal amenities that cruisers have come to expect from the line, while able to transport almost 3000 passengers. Each of the vessels in the Solstice class has wireless Internet connectivity, bigger staterooms with HDTVs, large bathrooms, more storage space, and plush European bedding. The Solstice-class ships also offer an extraordinary range of customer-inspired services and amenities made possible due to the liners' bigger size.

Decks and Cabins

Celebrity Solstice staterooms (1425 total, in 30 grades) include 66x Suites, 1149 Balconies, 70x Oceanviews, 140x Inside cabins. Most staterooms are sized 195 ft2 / 18 m2. Around 85% of all passenger accommodations have a private step-out balcony. Most balconies are sized 55 ft2 / 5 m2. Wheelchair-accessible cabins are 30. The largest are the Penthouse Suites (1290 ft2 / 120 m2 with terrace sized 390 ft2 / 36 m2).

The boat has 15 decks , of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 8 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

One of the dining venues aboard is reserved exclusively for guests in Aqua Class staterooms. There is also a lido buffet with specialty stations, a crepe and panini bistro, a spa cuisine buffet and grill, a poolside grill, and a coffee bar and gelateria. Of the 10 restaurants available, 6 are open for breakfast, 5 for lunch and 7 for dinner. The airy Grand Epernay is ship's main dining room, which spans two decks at the aft end of the cruise ship. The room is light intones, bright and with ample use of the signature design element of Solstice, glass. Instead of a wine cellar, one end of the MDR is accented with a 2-story glass wine tower.

In 2023, Celebrity introduced pickleball playing (at the sports courts) fleetwide. The sports facilities are complimentary, including the pickleball equipment (net, paddles, balls) but operated with separate scheduled playing times for adults and families (with kids older than 6).

Pickleball Court's locations vary by ship class - on EDGE ships is at the Rooftop Garden (Deck 15), on SOLSTICE ships is on the Sports Deck (Deck 15), on MILLENNIUM ships - at the Multi-Sports Court (Deck 12).

Itineraries

Celebrity Solstice itinerary program is based on 7-day roundtrips to Alaska from Seattle WA during summer. During the rest of the year, the ship sails on South Pacific Islands, Australia and NZ cruises from Auckland and Sydney . The Solstice also visits Hawaii on repositioning crossings between Alaska and Australia.

Due to the Coronavirus crisis, the Celebrity ship Solstice was paused for 2+ years (March 2020 thru May 2022). Operations were scheduled to restart on May 6, 2022, with 7-day Alaskan itineraries (from homeport Seattle). The following Asian deployment for winter 2022-23 (based on homeporting in Singapore, Hong Kong, Yokohama, and 12-day itineraries) was eventually canceled and replaced with 7-day Mexican Riviera voyages from homeport Los Angeles . The Mexican program was previously assigned to the fleetmate Millennium (repositioned to the Caribbean). A total of 17x Asian itineraries (departures between Sept 16, 2022, and April 21, 2023) were canceled.

Celebrity Solstice Wiki

Celebrity Cruises Solstice ship belongs to company's Solstice-class liners, with sisterships Eclipse , Equinox , Reflection , Silhouette . Solstice is fleet's first Solstice-class vessel (launched on August 10, 2008), with inaugural cruise/maiden voyage on November 23, 2008. The ship has staterooms in various categories, including the new AquaClass and ConciergeClass cabins.

Modern and classy, Solstice was the biggest passenger ship built in Germany. Deck layouts of all Solstice-class Celebrity liners show optimized interior architecture designs for easy passenger flow. The vessel is very easy to navigate, with all entertainment venues located forward and all food venues located aft. All "money" places (casino and shops) are midship. All specialty dining venues are on Deck 5. This ship also has solar panels to produce (though of limited amount) electricity, fuel-efficient hull design, and coatings, eco-friendly lighting.

Cruise itinerary October 20-29 (9-day "South Pacific Islands" roundtrip from Sydney NSW ) became Australia's first-ever vegan- themed voyage . It was available for booking on Celebrity Solstice and featured a special vegan dining menu. The voyage (themed "The Whole Connection") was organized by Paige Renshaw and as onboard pre-scheduled events featured daily food demonstrations, workshops, and professional presentations, as well as meditation classes, yoga and pilates, various group activities and documentary movie nights. The itinerary's call ports were in New Caledonia and Vanuatu (Noumea, Mystery Island, Isle of Pines, Lifou Island).

Does anyone know when the next refurbishment of the Constellation is scheduled?

If you are asking about the revolutionizing of the ships there has not been announcement of when that will restart.  That is an expensive undertaking and with the debt they took on, the Ascent to pay for and ships sailing at lower capacity it may be awhile.

xamsx

I am not sure if it means anything, but the Constellation has constant cruises schedule d through April 4, 2024 (arrival in Tampa). Some maintenance work was done in 2021 .

Major face-lift during down time at July 2021 dry dock.  Looked very nice for restart.  We were first pax to stand on new carpet and sit on new furniture in our cabin.  Revolution timing is anyone's guess.

How does it differ from Summit at this time?  Any major differences?

Both Summit and Millennium have had their revolutionizations, or whatever they called it.   😃

The website Cruisedeckplans.com which is fairly accurate has a note that the Connie is scheduled for a dry-docking Oct 1, 2023. It doesn't say what refurbishments if any will be done.

The Constellation has not been revolutionized and so doesn't have the Retreat Sundeck.  Michael's Club has not been converted to the Retreat Lounge.  The color scheme/decor/furniture are still the traditional darker look, not the revolutionized look that the Summit has (the Summit has been revolutionized).

The dry dock last year was just to refresh her (and they did an amazing job), not change her.

We've been on the post-Revolutionized Summit twice (with a 3rd cruise coming in September), and on the Constellation once, with a second booked for February 2024.

We loved both ships and, while I had absolutely no complaints about the Connie, I did find I preferred certain elements of the renovation on the Summit. We very much enjoyed the Retreat Sun Deck, and much preferred the updated Retreat Lounge to the dark atmosphere of Michael's Club. I also felt the new light color scheme in the cabins made them feel bigger and more open, although I do understand some peoples' criticism that they think it feels "cold".

That said, we had absolutely no reluctance in booking the un-Revolutionized Connie again and are looking forward to both trips.

Although, as I said above, I don't mind the un-Revolutionized Connie at all, it would not hurt my feelings if she did undergo the full renovation before our Feb. 2024 trip. 🙂  Although, I'm a little concerned that it might motivate my husband to upgrade us from Aqua to Retreat Class. 😉

We do not care what ship we are on, we will still book the Retreat for all the other amenities we get.

I can understand that. For us, without the retreat sun deck and retreat lounge, the additional expense isn't always worth it, especially because I actually like Blu better than Luminae, but I know that's completely a matter of personal preference. Different strokes. 😉

I also understand, the Retreat Sun deck has no interest for us, my dermatologist would yell at me if he knew I spent any time up there. At 72 my sun worshipping days are mostly behind me. I do have to admit the sun decks on the E Class ships are very nice, just not enough shade. Before we started booking the Retreat we cruise in Aqua and loved Blu because I have never liked dining in any cruise ships MDR, too much like being in a banquet hall.  Without Blu, booking Aqua is really a waste of money. We think Luminae is just one step above Blu but both are a lot more premium than the MDR. The newer Retreat lounges are very nice, but again even Micahel's club is still our favorite over the other bars on the ship. It is also less crowded which is nice post Covid when we do not like hanging out in larger over crowded bars like the Martini Bar.

wrk2cruise

Frankly there is almost zero difference between MC and Retreat Lounge other than branding.  The only concrete difference is the serving area they added.

We really like what they did to the Connie MC leaving the dark paneling but doing grey/green carpet and cream colored upholstery.

Don't forget that the furniture in MC might be a bit more practical than some of the new stuff in the Retreat Lounge if you're more than about 40 yrs old!

Yes they took the comfortable chairs from Rendezvous.  We found the new seating in Rendezvous somewhat stupid in the back where they have sofas facing each other and can't see the dance floor/band.

Totally understand that. We actually try to stay out of the sun, as well, and typically try to find a less sunny spot on the Retreat Sun Deck - there are a few - but like it, in part, to get away from the crowds on the main pool deck.  And likewise for the Retreat Lounge.

So much for that idea?  🤔

We were on Connie last December, and Summit in April, in AQ1.

We prefer Connie.  The sofa was a 2 seater.  In Summit, it was only a wide 1 seater.  There was more storage and closet space in Connie too.  The summit cabin walls had been coated, so magnets had difficulty sticking.

Long live the Connie in it's current form.

Celebrity Summit: Refurbishment, FAQs, and a Special Invitation

Updated: Dec 20, 2022

blue water, blue sky, 6 celebrity cruises ships

Celebrity Summit is a beautiful, timeless cruise ship. There are many reasons why you do want to consider her for your next cruise vacation.

In this article, I’m sharing information about her last refurbishment, FAQs with helpful links, and an invitation to a special sailing:

Refurbishment

Special Invitation

Celebrity Summit Refurbishment

Celebrity Summit may have an older birth year, but she should not be dismissed as an “old ship.” If you last sailed on her early in her career, you’ll likely not recognize her now.

Celebrity Cruises committed to “The Celebrity Revolution” just before Covid-19 struck. It went far deeper than reconditioning ships with new carpets and other soft goods, updating accommodations and public areas’ decors, and other upgrades normally done with a partial or extensive refurbishment.

This was an entire commitment that started when Celebrity Cruises introduced the ocean-cruising Celebrity Edge and the beautiful 100-guest Celebrity Flora that sails to the Galapagos Islands. They seemed to be the inspiration for bringing the entire fleet- whether the ships were new builds or rebuilds of existing ships to a philosophy of “modern luxury.”

In fact, she fits beautifully with Celebrity’s newer tagline, “ Relaxed Luxury, ” which refers to the line’s ships being relaxed luxury resorts at sea.

You can expect the premium “Cashmere mattresses,” the addition of AquaClass cabins, and the reimagined Michael’s Club which is now The Retreat Lounge for suite guests, along with a sunbathing area there.

There’s so much that’s changed that I think the best way to share the new experiences is what you can see here instead of what I can even describe.

Celebrity Summit Special Invitation

I saw a unique Western Hemisphere itinerary. It had the rareness of a repositioning cruise, but with the convenience of being a “closed loop” cruise. Closed loop means roundtrip from the port as opposed to starting in one port and ending in another. Check this out:

Celebrity Cruises Celebrity Summit

May 6 - 15, 2023

Roundtrip from Cape Liberty / Bayonne, NJ to:

Newport, RI * Martha's Vineyard, MA * Charleston, SC

TWO Days in Bermuda * Three Days at Sea

I'm excited about sailing on this itinerary. And I'm inviting you to join me!

Would you like to visit these ports and enjoy your relaxed luxury at sea aboard Celebrity Summit? I’m inviting our existing clients as well as those who would like to book and become our clients to join this neat sailing.
