Your Advance Passenger Information
This page tells you what extra information you might need to provide when you check in for certain destinations.
For security reasons, some countries require us to collect additional information from you, called Advanced Passenger Information (API). We'll need this information before you can fly.
We normally collect your Advance Passenger Information as part of the check-in process, whether that's online, at a self-service kiosk or at a counter. There's usually no need to provide your Advance Passenger Information before check in.
We'll ask for the following information when you check in:
- Date of birth
- Nationality
- Country of residence
- Travel document type (normally your passport)
- Travel document number
- Address of first night spent in the country (travellers to the US only)

- All Caribbean destinations
- South Africa

The updated commercial policy enables Virgin Atlantic customers making a new booking for travel up to April 30, 2022, or those with a cancelled flight up until August 31, 2021, to make as many free-of-charge changes as necessary to their travel dates

In further enhancement of flexibility in terms of rebooking and date change, Virgin Atlantic has announced the extension of free date change for passengers till April 30,2023. The updated commercial policy enables Virgin Atlantic customers making a new booking for travel up to April 30, 2022, or those with a cancelled flight up until August 31, 2021, to make as many free-of-charge changes as necessary to their travel dates , origin or destination all the way until April 30, 2023, as well as one free name change. The changes also apply to customers who already have an open ticket with credit due to flight disruption. Advt The cost of fare difference for all customers will be completely waived if the new travel date takes place on or before May 31, 2021 – a two-month extension on the previous policy. Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer, Virgin Atlantic, said: “We understand the difficulties that Covid-19 and ongoing travel restrictions may pose to our customers, so in order to support them we have revised and simplified our policies. By further increasing flexibility, customers making new travel plans will enjoy unlimited opportunities to make free changes, all the way until April 30, 2023, offering greater peace of mind and enabling them to book future travel with confidence.” All Virgin Atlantic customers with a pre-existing booking made up to and including February 5, 2021 also have the flexibility to reschedule their travel for a new travel date up to and including April 23, 2023. If their rebooked travel is between June 1, 2021 and December 31, 2022, any fare difference will be waived up to the value of £60 for Economy, £120 for Premium and £350 for Upper, the airline said.

US Covid-19 rule change for foreign nationals – 12 May 2023

Good news - visiting the USA will soon be even easier. Foreign nationals arriving to the USA by air on or after 12 May 2023 will no longer be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination or complete passenger attestation. Contact tracing information will still be mandatory and can be completed during Online Check In (which opens 24 hours before departure). As ever, If eligible under the US Visa Waiver Program, you’ll need to apply and obtain an ESTA for travel at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/
We’re in the process of updating our website and customer communications in readiness for the change in rules. Until then, if you’re a foreign national travelling to the US before this date, please ensure you have your proof of Covid-19 vaccination and completed attestation – both of which can be added in advance of travel, using our FlyReady verification tool.

Our new direct Virgin Atlantic service commences 22nd October 2023.

Our new direct Virgin Atlantic service commences 30th October 2023.
We will operate from London Heathrow four times a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Our seasonal Virgin Atlantic service with up to 4 direct flights, will operate until the 19th May 2024.
Our seasonal direct service will recommence on the 28th October 2024.
Our Virgin Atlantic service operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays.
Flights include a short touchdown in Barbados.
Our Virgin Atlantic service operates on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays until 29th March 2024. From the 2nd April, this service will reduce to Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Our seasonal service will recommence on the 29th October 2024, with flights operating on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays
Our seasonal Virgin Atlantic service with up to 3 direct flights, will operate until the 11th May 2024. Flights will commence from 23 May 2024 - 24th October 2024 on Thursdays and include a short touchdown.
Our seasonal direct service will recommence on the 29th October 2024.
Daily direct flights from London Gatwick to New York with our partner airline, Delta, operates between 10th April and 26th October 2024.
Our Virgin Atlantic service with direct flights, will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays until the 30th March 2024.
Our direct service will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays from the 2nd April 2024.
