Meet the cast of Coach Trip 2019 on Instagram – Goffy, Cheri, Pearl, Melissa and more
Coach Trip 2019 is nothing like previous seasons.
Showcasing a revamped format and a cast that has taken the average age well below 25, the 2019 series is proving a big hit with younger audiences on E4.
It’s raunchy, drama-packed and boasts a colossal 30 episodes, which will take you all the way up to mid-March.
We tracked down as many of the contestants on Instagram as possible – here they are!
- Who is Brendan Sheerin? What did he look like when he was younger?

How to Watch Coach Trip 2019
Coach Trip 2019 launched on Monday, January 28th.
The series now airs on E4 at 7:30 pm every weeknight.
With a scheduled 30 episodes, the series should come to a close on Friday, March 8th.
Where Are They Heading?
The full title for series 5 is Coach Trip: Road to Barcelona.
The 14 sun-seeking Brits will kick-start their adventure on the Croatian coast, visiting Split, Sibenik, Vodice and Zadar along the way.
Eventually, they end up in Spanish city Barcelona. As always, the least popular contestants will be voted off as the coach plods along.
Coach Trip 2019 Cast: James and Goffy
James’s stint on Coach Trip isn’t his first TV appearance having popped up on a 2007 episode of The Weakest Link and, more recently, ITV2’s Release The Hounds.
He is from Durham and has a son.

Goffy spoke exclusively spoke to Reality Titbit and said that he actually leaves the show with a girlfriend!

View this post on Instagram Cheat meals always do me a world of good. One thing I’m so so happy I’ve found is balance! There are no foods I’m ‘afraid’ to eat. No foods I ban myself from eating! If I want it, I’ll have it. My mindset has come to the point where what I’m doing now has to be what I’m going to do for the rest of my life, it has to be sustainable. Fad diets aren’t sustainable, excessive cardio isn’t sustainable, never eating chocolate, cake, burger and pizza again isn’t sustainable. Forever feeling guilty is not living! If you’re wanting to get just that extra bit of exercise in a day then dancing around your house is perfect (if you watch my stories you’ll see this is what I do quite often) it’s in the comfort of your own home, you don’t even have to get ready or drive/walk anywhere! Spending just 30 minutes a day can do a world of good. 😌 If you’re new to the gym this year and don’t know where to start, take a friend, watch videos on YouTube/IG there are thousands! To avoid feeling out of place or not knowing what to do next, prepare a workout routine beforehand, stay focused on yourself because 99% of people there aren’t looking at you, they’re worried who’s looking at them 😆 A post shared by Melissa Tolan (@meltolan_) on Jan 14, 2019 at 10:23am PST

Love Island 2018 is set to return to television screens this summer with an explosive new series.
However, it looks as though two potential ladies on the line-up could be Coach Trip twins Ruby and Pearl Day, who have revealed that they'd love to do the ITV2 reality series.
Talking to Daily Star Online, Pearl said: "We 100% want to do more reality TV.
"We've done commercials and stuff and we love being in front of the camera. Any reality show we watch and like, we'd do."
To which her sister, Ruby, added to the publication: "Love Island would be a really good one. You get to just lay down, in a bikini, tanning your skin and surrounded with fit hunky men with six packs. It doesn't really get better! It's like heaven on Earth."
While Pearl, who also starred alongside Gaz Beadle on MTV's Spring Break with Granddad, opened up about whether they'd have sex on television.
Talking to the publication, she said: "If you went on Love Island and you started dating someone right from the beginning and you're with them 24/7.
"When you're in that environment, a week is like a month – it's hard to say never say never to sex on TV!
"Years ago, it was like, 'Oh my gosh, that's so bad!" But now every show you watch it kind of happens.
"You look at it and just stop taking notice of it. It's so common now, you just blink."
The twins also revealed how the ITV2 dating show has led to successful careers for its contestants with Kem Cetinay currently on Dancing On Ice while Olivia Attwood and Chris Hughes are getting their own TV series.
Ruby added: "It brings so many opportunities after, and so many people have done so well from it. A man's a bonus. You get a holiday, a career and a boyfriend, it's three things in one."
Will the twins be on the new series of Love Island?
Love Island returns to ITV2 soon...

Ruby Terp Pearls (6mm)
At MJA, we are always looking for ways to help our customers get the most out of their dabbing experience. That's why we are excited to introduce ruby terp pearls .
These little ruby spheres are designed to improve airflow, oil flow, and temperature control - all of which can help you enjoy a more consistent and enjoyable dab sesh.
Plus, they come in two classic colors: Synthetic ruby terp pearl and clear quartz pearl. Give them a try today and elevate the ordinary with MJ Arsenal.
**Comes in set of 2
What Exactly Is a Ruby Terp Pearl?
Terp pearls – also called terp balls or terp marbles – are a unique and beautiful addition to any dab rig. And, unlike most pearls, our ruby-colored pearls are made from lab-grown synthetic ruby.
The process of creating terp pearls goes a little like this: Get Your Jammer Mini Dab Rig Today
- It starts with growing synthetic ruby gems under tightly controlled lab conditions
- Once enough of the mineral has formed into the shape of a small marble, the handler forms the ruby into tiny beads
- When the beads are exactly the right 6mm diameter, they are heated and cooled in a kiln, giving the ruby a distinctive pearl-like appearance
Of course, these ruby pearls are not just beautiful: Ruby is a more durable material, so these pearls will last longer than borosilicate ones. Synthetic ruby is also a fantastic conductor of heat, giving you better heat retention and a bigger surface area for your dabs.
Why We Call Them Terp Pearls
"Terp" comes from "terpenes," which are the compounds that give plants their distinctive flavor and aroma. Similarly, "pearl" comes from the marble-shaped 6mm ball that is designed to help you vaporize your oil more evenly — making each hit more powerful and flavorful.
Since terp pearls are designed to help you taste and smell your dab more accurately, they are appropriately named after these important compounds.
Pearls improve heat retention and surface coverage, which means that you can take bigger dabs for longer at lower temperatures. This prevents sensitive terpenes from boiling off, which is often a sacrifice you make when you dab at high temperatures.
Selecting the Most Suitable Dab Bucket for Your Ruby Terp Pearls
Standard quartz buckets are our go-to suggestion because they’re smaller, easier to handle, and a lot less expensive (so they’re also the way to go if you’re on a budget).
Because of its durability, quartz is also an excellent conductor and will help to keep your dab at a consistent temperature while also withstanding the highest of flames.
If you want an even larger surface area for big doses, we have large dab buckets made specifically with our terp pearls in mind. These quartz bangers have a large, flat-bottom ideal for holding more terp pearls – and the result is an even bigger surface area for your dab, meaning more vapor and flavor.
Make Your Ruby Terp Pearls Spin with a Carb Cap
There are a few different types of carb caps that work well with pearls: The spinner carb cap and the bubble carb cap.
The spinner carb cap is the most popular option because it makes the pearls spin around inside the bucket, evenly distributes the heat, and maximizes the surface area of your bucket.
You can also use a bubble carb cap or a traditional cap with our pearls. While your pearls may not spin around, you'll still enjoy the benefit of increased surface area. (If you're using a bubble carb cap, ensure the holes are large enough to allow airflow and prevent clogging.)
How to Use Ruby Terp Pearls
Terp pearls are a great and inexpensive way to improve your dabbing experience. With them, you can enjoy more evenly distributed heat and smoother, tastier dabs by simply placing a few pearls in your banger or nail.
Whether you’re new to the game or need a quick refresher, here’s a step-by-step guide to using your pearls:
Step #1. Add Pearls to a Cool Bucket
Start by adding a few pearls to your banger or nail. It's important to ensure that the bucket is cool before adding the pearls because you want everything to heat up simultaneously.
Step #2. Heat Normally
Once you've added the pearls to the bucket, heat your banger or nail as you normally would. The pearls will distribute the heat evenly, so you don't need to worry about heating them separately or heating the top of the bucket with a direct flame.
Step #3. Place Your Dab on the Pearls
Once your quartz banger or nail is hot, place your dab on the pearls. The increased surface area will help vaporize the dab more evenly, giving you a smoother hit. Place your carb cap over the top of the banger or nail to trap the vapor – and enjoy your dab!
Step #4. Allow the Rig to Cool, But Not Completely
After taking your dab, allow the rig to cool for a few minutes to give the pearls time to cool down enough for you to touch.
However, don't let the rig cool all the way: The pearls are much harder to remove and clean once the oil has solidified at room temperature.
This is often the hardest part of using terp pearls, so try setting a timer to remind yourself to remove the pearls while they're still warm so you can keep them clean for the next hit.
Keeping Your Ruby Terp Pearls Clean
Clean your terp pearls after each use to remove residual oil on the surface of the pearls like this:
- Soak them in isopropyl alcohol for a few minutes
- Use a cotton swab or microfiber cloth to remove any remaining oil
- Rinse the pearls with water and allow them to dry completely
But doing this after every session can be tedious, especially since your pearls get dirty with spent oil after every hit.
An ISO Station is the perfect way to keep your pearls clean and ready for action: With a built-in isopropyl alcohol reservoir, you can quickly and easily clean your pearls between hits.
Ensure Longevity for Your Ruby Pearls
Terp pearls can last a long time with proper care as long as you clean them after each use with isopropyl alcohol to remove any residual oil.
The biggest risk with your terp pearls is that, because they're so small and smooth, they can be easily lost, so be sure to keep your pearls in a safe place when you're not using them.
An official MJ Arsenal dab tray is a great place to start: With tall chambers for your banger and pearls, and a hanger for your dab tool, the tray provides a safe place for all your gear and accessories while giving you easy access during your sesh.
Ruby Terp Pearls FAQ
As leading experts in the glassware industry, we're eager to help you get started with your new pearls before you make the purchase to add them to your collection. That’s why we’ve compiled some of the most frequently asked questions about these unique gems.
(Don't see your question below? Contact us and we'll be happy to help.)
Do I Need Terp Pearls to Use a Dab Rig?
You don't need pearls to use a dab rig – but many people enjoy using them because they help keep the temperature consistent while also enhancing the dab's flavor.
Without terp pearls, your dab will still vaporize, but the taste and quality may not be as good. By improving the surface area your dab comes into contact with, the pearls optimize the dabbing process and allow you to enjoy a better flavor and quality hit.
Do Terp Pearls Have Any Flavor?
Synthetic ruby is a type of lab-made mineral that is flavorless and inert, meaning it does not interact with the oils or concentrates being heated on it. This makes ruby a perfect material for those who want to enjoy the true taste of their concentrates.
How Many Types of Terp Pearls Are There?
Terp pearls are a great way to dress up any rig, and they come in a variety of colors and materials. The most common type of terp pearl is made from synthetic quartz, and these clear pearls are incredibly durable.
You can also find ruby terp pearls on the market made from lab-grown ruby gems. These pearls are a deep red color, which add some vibrant color to each dab sesh.
Another option is glass pearls, but these are less durable and more likely to break than the other two types — which is why we only use premium minerals in our 6mm ruby pearls.
Can I Store My Terp Pearls in the Fridge or Freezer?
If you're a fan of water-cooled rigs, you might be tempted to store your terp pearls in the fridge or freezer.
However, this is not recommended. While they can tolerate cold temperatures, they become less effective when chilled, and you want to avoid thermal shock.
Store your pearls at room temperature and out of direct sunlight for the best results. If you're unhappy with your water cooling setup, go for a bigger one that can hold more water.
Do Terp Pearls Work With All Kinds of Concentrates?
Terp pearls work great with all kinds of concentrates, including live resin, budder, oil, and wax. No matter what type of concentrate you're using, pearls will help to improve your dabbing experience.
Dab pearls are particularly handy for concentrates that are hard to handle. For example, diamond sauce is a difficult concentrate to work with because it's so sticky, goopy, and inconsistent. Since terp pearls add surface area to your bucket, you'll have an easier time getting the sauce off your tool and into the bucket.
Can I Use Terp Pearls Without a Dab Rig?
Although you may have a prolific collection of glassware accessories, terp pearls are made specifically for use with dab rigs. The whole point of using pearls is to retain more heat and create a larger surface area inside your dab nail, so they won't do anything for you if you use a vape pen or other device.
What if My Terp Pearls Won't Spin?
If your pearls don't spin, there are a couple of things you can try.
- Make sure to keep your bucket and spinner cap clean. If there's any residue or build-up on either of these pieces, it will prevent the pearls from spinning.
- Purchase a smaller bucket to create more friction and make it easier for the pearls to spin.
Remember that spinning isn't the main goal — it's all about the improved surface area. Even if your pearls don't spin, they'll still help bring out the full terpene profile in your concentrates.

Kazan, Russia
You are here, about kazan.
As the capital city of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan is a glorious city that represents Russia's Tsarist past. With complex palaces, towering churches, and a thriving cultural scene, Kazan is a pure Russian city with incredible beauty and heart.
Main Attractions in Kazan
As the "Third Capital of Russia," there is plenty to see and to do while staying in Kazan. Visitors can enjoy long walks down the streets of the city, as each of them offers a new arrangement of colors and historic buildings. Kazan is also one of the largest economic, political, scientific and cultural centers of the country.
Kazan Kremlin
One of the main attractions is the Kazan Kremlin. Built by Ivan the Terrible on the ruins of the palace of the Kazan Khanate that he destroyed, this white fortress is a beautiful sight in any season. The Kremlin of Kazan reflects not only the ethnic mix of Tatars and Russians that make up this important region of the Russian Federation, but also the combined strength of the region's two great religions: Islam and Orthodox Christianity.
Kul Sharif Mosque
The magnificent Kul Sharif Mosque , named for Kazan's last great Imam before Ivan the Terrible invaded and seized the city, is the Kremlin's main jewel. It is the largest Muslim place of worship in Europe, and serves as home to a rich collection of ancient books.
Annunciation Cathedral
As an equally important place of Orthodox worship, the Annunciation Cathedral within Kazan’s Kremlin is an architectural gem completed in 1561, 9 years after the city was conquered. The cathedral is said to have been designed by Postnik Yakovlev, the same architect who was said to be blinded after completing St. Basil’s Cathedral on Moscow’s Red Square.
Temple of All Religions
Today's Kazan appears to be equally strongly tied with its unique mixture of religious beliefs. Philanthropist Ildar Khanov began work on his Temple of All Religions in 1992 near the shores of the Volga River, and this unique building is still under construction. The Temple makes use of religious architecture from all over the world, and has an Orthodox church dome, a minaret, synagogue-like fixtures, and other items representing 16 of the world's many faiths.
In 2005 Kazan celebrated its millennium jubilee. Despite such venerable age, the city is growing and dynamically developing in all respects.
A prevailing feature of life in the city is peaceful, creative coexistence of different religions and nationalities. Due to its gorgeous architecture, breathtaking scenery, and welcoming locals, Kazan is the perfect destination for travelers of all ages. So if you've already decided to add Kazan to your bucket list, browse our collection of Russia tours below and choose your ideal Kazan itinerary!

The Coach Trip gang headed to Dijon where the crew, headed up by Brendan Sheerin, experimented with some cider pouring.
But over in the Spanish principality, the folks don't just pour their cider from the can, they turn the beverage upside down from a great height in order to "oxidise" the alcohol.
Naturally, there was a special technique to the activity.
"You need to put a little finger in the bottom and aim for the ring," Brendan told his giggling passengers as they experimented with cider pouring.
But model twins Pearl and Ruby struggled with the activity.
As Pearl sat with a cider glass between her legs, Ruby poured the alcohol, but kept missing the ring of the glass.
The beverage ended up all over Pearl's legs and chest, causing her to scream.
"I feel like my waters have broken!" she shrieked, causing a shocked Brendan to look on.
Speaking to the camera, Brendan explained: "We should send for the midwives to get the towels and the boiling water.
"We're going to have our first Coach Trip baby!"
Elsewhere on the show, Ellie and Ryan were awarded their first yellow card, meaning the coachload of British tourists all live to fight another day on their trip to Tenerife.
Coach Trip: Road to Tenerife continues Monday at 7:30pm on E4.

Why You Should Add Kazan, Tatarstan to Your Trip to Russia
June 1, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment
Ironically enough, the city that excited me the most during my trip to Russia was neither St. Petersburg nor Moscow. Sure, I was really looking forward to seeing St. Basil’s Cathedral in Red Square with my own eyes and to wander around the exhibits in the Hermitage but there was something about the Tatars, a Turkic people that call parts of Russia home, that really piqued my interest.
Compared to the Orthodox Christian majority that define most of Russia, Tatarstan (a republic within the Russian Federation) has a Muslim majority. The result is a hodgepodge of cultures. You have Russian with a distinct Turkic blend and this is manifested in the bilingual signs and varied cuisine in Kazan, its capital.
As it is a bit out of the way relative to the typical Russian itinerary , most people don’t visit Tatarstan at all. But if you have a couple of extra days to spare, I wholeheartedly recommend taking the 1.5 hour or so flight to Kazan for a slice of Russia that you definitely don’t see in Moscow or St. Petersburg. Without further ado, here are the top things you can do in Kazan.
Table of Contents
Kazan Kremlin
kazan kremlin
One of the more interesting kremlins that you’ll find in Russia is the one in Kazan. The diversity of religions is nowhere more apparent here where you can find an Orthodox church sitting within the same complex as a mosque. Don’t miss a visit to the striking Kul-Sharif Mosque which I would personally count as one of the most beautiful mosques I’ve ever seen both inside and out. If you come to the Kremlin in the day, you can also walk through the walls for a fee and obtain a higher view of the complex through the observation towers.
On the opposite side of the Kremlin, you will also find the Annunciation Cathedral and the leaning Suyumbike Tower which together form a fine ensemble of richly decorated buildings. If you walk out towards the bridge (Ulitsa Dekabristov), you can appreciate the fine views of the Kremlin. Better yet, hop on the ferris wheel from the Kyrlay Theme Park on the northern side of town to snap photos of the Kremlin from a high point.
Agricultural Palace
agricultural palace kazan
Don’t be misled by the name, the Agricultural Palace is a government building so it’s not really open to the public. It is listed here due to its highly instagrammable nature. You’ll find the curved angles of the building highly picturesque. A popular spot to take photos is from the small hill beside the palace itself.
National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan
national museum of the republic of tatarstan
Situated just outside the Kazan Kremlin, the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan is housed in a grand 18th century European style building. Inside, you’ll find Tatar arts and craft including fine jewellry and weapons used by the Tatar people.
St. Peter and Paul Cathedral
st. peter and paul cathedral kazan
Despite the many churches you’ll find scattered throughout Russia, a visit to the beautiful St. Peter and Paul Cathedral is highly recommended for its Naryshkin-style Baroque decor. Look closely at the windows of this 17th century church and you’ll find these decorated in unique floral patterns.
Bauman Street
bell tower in bauman street
Bauman Street is Kazan’s main shopping street and is busy in the day and floodlit at night. There is a good mix of shops and restaurants here. Despite being the tourist center of the city, the pedestrian-only street is refreshingly devoid of the tour groups that you encounter in Moscow or St. Petersburg. Towards the end, you will encounter the Epiphany Cathedral’s Bell Tower , a 74 meter high structure that you can climb for views.
Old Tatar Village
architecture in the old tatar village
One of the more charming areas in the city marks the spot where ethnic Tatars were forced to stay following the siege of Kazan in 1552. There are not a lot of old buildings left here but the ones that remain date from the 17th or 18th centuries and highly instagrammable with distinctive colorful patterns. The most prominent structures in the area are the Mardzhani Mosque and the Apanaev Mosque one block away. If you walk towards the side of the lake, you’ll encounter this kitschy restaurant serving Tatar cuisine – Tatarskaya Usadba . My favorites are the nourishing soups and stews that go well especially during cold days. If you are feeling adventurous, you can also try the horse meat which is cooked in a variety of ways.
Getting Here: Ulitsa Kayuma Nasyri is where the bulk of the older buildings are situated.
Temple of All Religions
temple of all religions
I visited the Temple of All Religions a month after it was razed by fire. Although the exterior is mostly intact, the inside was heavily damaged. There is no admission to enter although a gatekeeper asks for donations. The highlight of the place is its numerous and colorful towers, each dedicated to a different religion. Do note that the temple is a bit out of the way. I took an UBER here and I had some difficulty getting a ride back to town. Alternatively, you can take Bus #2 from the city center.
Where to Eat in Kazan
salmon tartare
Priyut Kholostyaka – Come here for variety. This restaurant has a wide range of Russian as well as European dishes and you can order from the iPads – they have an English menu as well.
Restaurant Hemingway – upscale restaurant located in the Bauman Street area. Excellent service and authentic Mediterranean cuisine.
Tatarskaya Usadba -It may look kitschy from the outside but the food is quite delicious. Come here for the warm Tatar atmosphere.
Where to Stay in Kazan
Frequently cited as the best hotel in Kazan, the Ramada Kazan City Center is located near some trendy restaurants and just two blocks away from TSUM Department Store. Rooms are spacious and the breakfast has relatively good variety for its price.

Top 12 Things to Do in Kazan, Russia
Russia's most impressive Kremlin isn't in Moscow
Kazan is not one of Russia 's most famous tourist cities, which makes sense when you consider that it's not in Russia —at least not completely. Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan, which sits within Russia 's official borders, but whose government operates autonomously in many capacities, due to the large populations of ethnic Tatars who live within its borders.
A trip to Kazan, to be sure, is like no other experience in Russia, thanks to the city's millennium of history, the diverse population (and the fact that it manages to live mostly in peace) and a standard of modernity you might not expect outside Moscow or St. Petersburg .
Tour Russia's Most Unique Kremlin
One thing many travelers don't realize, if they've never visited Russia, is that there is no such thing as "The" Kremlin, though the one in Moscow usually gets the most attention.
Every Russian city of a certain size has a Kremlin (which means "citadel" in Russian), and they all feature a combination of government, religious and military buildings inside a wall, often over a body of water (the Volga River, in Kazan's case).
The Kazan Kremlin has a decidedly Islamic character, owing to the city's large Muslim population and the mosque that exists within the citadel.
Visit the Temple of All Religions
Kazan has long gained accolades not only from within Russia but from all around the world, for the fact the Christians and Muslims have lived together here in peace for nearly a millennium.
Although it's easy to see this harmony lived out among locals, one site that pays homage to co-existence is the aptly-named Temple of All Religions.
This sacred site, which features multiple architectural styles in order to achieve its aim, sits just outside Kazan's city center.
Experience the World's Religions Individually
Of course, you're welcome to appreciate Kazan's religious eclecticism in a more piecemeal fashion, if that suits you.
Within the aforementioned Kazan Kremlin, for example, you'll find the blue-domed Kul Sharif Mosque, as well as the Annunciation Cathedral, which represents Russian Orthodox Christianity.
Religious sites are abundant outside the Kremlin as well, from Märcani Mosque to St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral.
Relax in a Variety of Green Spaces
Kazan is well-known within Russia for the quality of life its citizens enjoy, and a big part of this is the wide variety of green spaces in the city. The most popular of these is Millennium Park, built to commemorate the city's 1,000th birthday in 2005. Other Kazan Parks include the Central Park of Culture and Park Imeni.
Cool Off at an Exciting Water Park
Kazan is also home to a park of another sort, in the form of Riviera Aquapark. This park comes in handy too, since Kazan is much hotter than other cities in Russia, with summer temperatures that regularly rise into the '80s and '90s. A trip to Riviera Aquapark is a particularly good choice if you won't have the time to explore the lakes you find in Tatarstan outside Kazan.
Go Back in Time to the Soviet Union
Though Kazan was never a purely Russian city, it was nonetheless under the control of the Soviet Union during the country's entire existence. A stop at the quirky Soviet Lifestyle Museum is not so much a lesson in Soviet history (though there is plenty of artwork and other propaganda in case that's your thing), but a compelling comparison of how things were under the USSR government vs today's largely autonomous regime.
Shop for Local Tatar Handicrafts
Like Moscow , Kazan is home to its own GUM department store, as well as a number of other "big box" retailers that would have Stalin rolling over in his grave. Heading to the more traditional Koltso shopping area, meanwhile, allows you to browse local Tatar handicrafts, including Tubeteika hats that are a common sight throughout Central Asia.
Check out a Variety of Festivals and Other Cultural Events
Kazan, like many other Russian cities, features a variety of festivals and other cultural events throughout the year, many of which are international and cosmopolitan in their scope. Music festivals devoted to opera and jazz roll through the city in February and August, respectively, while a high-profile festival dedicated to Muslim cinema from around the world returns every September.
Discover Local Tatar Culture
Of course, a trip to Kazan presents plenty of opportunities to experience and celebrate local Tatar Culture, whether that entails shopping for clothing items as above, sampling Tatar cuisine as below, or participating in the Karavan Festival in May, which takes places not only in Kazan but throughout the Republic. If you're interested in Tatar Culture, this might be the best time of year to visit Tatarstan!
Enjoy the Tasty Tatar Cuisine
Tatar food is a bit more evergreen than conspicuous displays of traditional culture, though some items seem more appropriate in warm or cold weather than others.
Ukha fish soup, for example, is a more welcome choice to slurp down during the frigid winter months, while chak-chak doughnuts are more palatable when the temperature rises into the 80s and 90s.
Ride a Riverboat During the Summer
Speaking of the warmer months, it is during this period exclusively (May to October, give or take) when boats travel on the Volga River that runs through Kazan.
While some companies do exist for the purpose of taking tourists on pleasure rides along the river, you should keep in mind that many of these boats are essentially water buses.
While this means they're affordable, they can also be quite crowded, making for an authentic experience, but a less than idyllic one.
Get Out of Town
Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan, but it's not all there is to the Republic. You could take a day trip to Raifa Monastery, which sits on the shores of a lake whose chilly waters are perfect for a dip during the summer.
The town of Bolgar is a little farther (if you do visit on a day trip, it'll be a very long day), but has been important throughout Russian history, and is currently a pilgrimage site for Muslims.
Finally, Christopol feels more like the rest of Russia, with a 1700s aesthetic that may have you feeling like you're in the time of Catherine the Great—or closer to Helsinki than to Istanbul, as it were.
